Abstract:
The end of the twentieth century is marked by change, of revolutionary scope and scale, characterized by a series of transformations, such as technological convergence and world-wide media coverage, not to mention the globalization of their content. These in turn are leading the way to a true revolution, based on information and knowledge. This change is of immense significance, for they imply a break with the past, heralding a new era of economic, social and cultural development fundamentally different from anything that has gone before. Information now plays an increasingly important part in economic, social, cultural and political life. This phenomenon is taking place regardless of a country's size, state of development, or political philosophy. The origin of these far reaching changes is to be found in the diffusion of information, through Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and its progress is speeded up by the digital revolution and the convergence of the computer, telecommunication and audio visual industries.

Abstract:
There is a broad consensus that better models for assessing the impact of information efforts are needed to inform information and knowledge management and digital preservation. In contrast to measuring the quality of information, less attention has been directed to the assessment of knowledge and information processes as its constituent. Using archaeology and archaeological information as a sample context, the aim of this conceptual paper is to probe in to the evaluation of the impact and usefulness of information by taking into account the practices of how it is produced, managed and used. On a basis of a review and discussion of earlier literature on the impact of information and evaluation and management of information in archaeology, it is proposed that a better understanding of how the impact of information unfolds as a part of its production, management and use could contribute to the development of infrastructures, repositories and procedures for the management of the preservation and use of these resources.

Abstract:
Over the past 20 years, scholars have discussed the impact of banking competition on the choice between transactional and relationship lending technologies extensively, but no resolution has emerged. To address these questions, this article uses a new measure of relationship lending that accounts for the actual level of soft information that banks use in their loan pricing. With this new measure, the analysis reveals that banks prefer to implement relationship lending technology when competition is weak. In addition and in accordance with extant theoretical conclusions, the shape of the relationship between competition and relationship banking is nonlinear and concave.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVE: To provide an overview of the use and impact of written drug information (WDI) on consumers, and to review the literature on the factors influencing the use of WDI by consumers. DATA SOURCES: Relevant articles published in English since the late 1970s were identified based on searches of on-line databases, texts, and cited references in published articles. STUDY SELECTION: Articles reporting findings on the origin, use, and impact of WDI were included. Due to limited literature, articles reporting findings on factors influencing the use of written drug as well as disease information were included. DATA EXTRACTION: Due to the lack of design consistency between studies and the comparatively small volume of work, subjective assessment rather than a criteria-based objective review was deemed more appropriate. DATA SYNTHESIS: To date, research on WDI has focused on its use and impact. WDI has the potential to increase patients' knowledge, compliance, and satisfaction. However, there is also the potential for anxiety or premature cessation of therapy due to fear of possible adverse effects. Multiple factors may potentially influence the use of WDI by consumers including those associated with the written information document (readability, presentation), the patient (health literacy, role of caregiver, demographic factors, health locus of control, coping style, health belief model), and the environment (timing of provision, experience). CONCLUSIONS: WDI has the potential to impact consumers positively and negatively. Although not widely investigated, a number of factors can potentially influence the use of WDI by consumers. The findings of this review can form the basis for much needed further research.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this article is to examine the information culture of a medium-sized municipality in Belgium. Public information/records is/are one of the most important instruments of citizens' control of public authorities. The principle of Public Access gives citizens a right to access public records, while the Privacy Act protects the integrity of the citizens. Municipalities are institutions that intensely interact with the citizens. Therefore, the way they handle the information that is generated during this interaction is of crucial importance to the efficient service delivery, safeguarding the rights of the citizens that they serve and for sustaining the open governance structure that promotes the principles of accountability and transparency. Design/methodology/approach – The author employed a case study approach in order to establish the attitudes and norms the organizational employees had towards the management of information/records. She also applied the information culture assessment framework developed by Oliver during the design of the research questions. Findings – Information culture affects the way public information/records are managed. Though investments are being made in information systems to facilitate the capture and management of information/records, the people issues are equally as crucial. E-Government development will require an information culture that promotes effective creation, use and management of information, if its goal of efficient and transparent public administrations is to be achieved. Originality/value – The originality of this study lies in the application of the information culture assessment framework that was developed by Oliver. The framework facilitates the formulation of questions using its three layers to tease out the information required by a researcher in an attempt to draw conclusions regarding the attitudes, norms and the value the interviewees attach to information/records.

Abstract:
Information systems administrators face a difficult balance between providing sufficient security to protect the organization’s computing resources while not inhibiting the appropriate use of these resources. Striking this balance is particularly difficult in higher education due to the diversity of computer uses and users. This is accentuated by one large, diverse user group, namely students. To facilitate striking such a balance, a better understanding of students’ motivations to use security measures is useful. A theoretically sound model linking student and system security characteristics to students’ security behaviors is developed and presented in this paper. The model is operationalized using student responses to a web-based questionnaire. The empirical results show that training to use security measures has no impact on students’ security behaviors while experience with security does. Furthermore, ease of security use positively impacts students’ security behaviors through security self-efficacy. The influence of peers has similar impacts through security outcome expectancy.

Abstract:
Modern software development depends on tools and techniques to represent implied information processing logic to the human engineer, relying chiefly on effortful human reasoning to best determine critical properties of the software system. Current conceptualization, visualization and contextualization of software in development amounts to a significant under-utilization of already limited development resources directed to optimization, prevention, and addressing fundamental security properties of the software system. As a step toward increasing such utilization as a basis for a global ecosystem of secure software, this work explores and evaluates an alternative representation of software source code for the sake of secure development, manifesting universal, critical properties of the system to enhance control of security factors while the bulk of the properties of the system are being determined and the costly skills of the developer are directed to the many aspects of the task.

Abstract:
Cholesterol is an essential component of cell membranes, and during the past several years, diabetes researchers have found that membrane cholesterol levels in adipocytes, skeletal muscle fibers and pancreatic beta cells influence insulin action and insulin secretion. Consequently, it is thought that dysregulated cell cholesterol homeostasis could represent a determinant of type 2 diabetes (T2D). Recent clinical findings compellingly add to this notion by finding increased T2D susceptibility in individuals with alterations in a variety of cholesterol metabolism genes. While it remains imperfectly understood how statins influence glucose metabolism, the fact that they display an influence on blood glucose levels and diabetes susceptibility seems to intensify the emerging importance of understanding cellular cholesterol in glucose metabolism. Taking this into account, this review first presents cell system and animal model findings that demonstrate the negative impact of cellular cholesterol accumulation or diminution on insulin action and insulin secretion. With this framework, a description of how changes in cholesterol metabolism genes are associated with T2D susceptibility will be presented. In addition, the connection between statins and T2D risk will be reviewed with expanded information on pitavastatin, a newer statin medication that displays actions favoring metabolic health.

Human resource information systems (HRISs) are widely used and have a strategic impact on organizations. The fundamental objective of this paper is to reveal the predominant antecedents affecting their adoption and implementation by replicating the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model from a South Asian emergent country perspective. The study collected data from human resource professionals employed in manufacturing and service companies located in Bangladesh, which were analyzed by employing partial least squares-based structural equation modeling software. It was revealed that performance expectancy, social pressure, and facilitation conditions significantly influence the intention to use and the actual use of HRIS, but that user’s effort expectancy had no significant impact. The study contributes by enriching the previous findings and validating the results based on relevant literature. Furthermore, managerial implications, the limitations of the study and suggested future study directions are presented.

Abstract:
AbstractForaging animals frequently have to decide where to search, what host or prey to accept, and when to leave a patch. To achieve optimal patch exploitation rates, foragers can base their decisions on information about the quality of the current patch and on an estimate of the quality of the entire habitat. The latter has rarely been studied to date. We have analysed the patch-leaving behaviour of the parasitic wasp Asobara tabida Nees (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), a solitary parasitoid of Drosophila larvae, as a function of previous experience. Females were confronted with patches containing different numbers of larvae, which were either unparasitised, or parasitised by a conspecific or larvae of different host species. Our results show that females of A. tabida were able to recognise the different qualities of the patches that we offered but that they used information about host density, host species or parasitism status of the host to different degrees during subsequent patch visits. Encounters with an unsuitable host species had a great impact on future patch-leaving decisions while the effect of host density was relatively weak. If wasps had encountered previously parasitised hosts no response could be detected during subsequent visits. We argue that the various information sources provided are of different value for the searching female and that this might explain the observed pattern of selective information use.

Abstract:
Information Systems in the past few years became a keystone of society. History shows that in some Information Systems one simple failure can lead to disproportioned economic and social damages. Initially used in structural systems, the theory of vulnerability searches for this type of failure. This theory identifies failures in which small damage can have disproportionate impact consequences in terms of the functionality of the whole system. To test and evaluate these failures injections and analyze the impacts of them in sensitive Information Systems, simulation provides an interesting approach. By mimicking systems and representing them through models, simulation studies an imitated system without disrupting the system itself. Simulation provides a safer approach to explore and test the system in damage scenarios without real consequences. This paper discusses the use of the theory of vulnerability in Information Systems simulation.

Abstract:
Abstract This study exploits contract-level data from Bosnia and Herzegovina to assess the impact of a new credit registry on the use of borrower collateral versus third-party guarantees. Among first-time borrowers, the introduction of mandatory information sharing leads to a shift from collateral to guarantees, in particular for riskier borrowers. Among repeat borrowers, both collateral and guarantee requirements decline in proportion to the length of the lending relationship. These results suggest that information sharing can both reduce adverse selection among new borrowers and hold-up problems among repeat borrowers.

Abstract:
Food labels may have an important function in communicating nutrition information and have considerable potential to influence food choice and dietary behavior. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate Spanish consumers’ reasons for reading or not reading nutrition information, their nutrition knowledge, perception and understanding of nutrition label information, and the possible impact of following a diet on all these. A 74-item questionnaire was developed to assess nutrition knowledge, attitude toward food labels, reasons for never reading nutrition information, food choice, the perceived importance of nutrition facts, and label-reading behavior. The results indicated that dietary patterns, nutrition knowledge, and sociodemographic characteristics strongly influenced label use. Based on the participants’ beliefs, four segments were identified for those who followed a diet and three segments for those who did not. Our study suggests that following a diet increases Spanish consumers’ nutrition knowledge as well as their use of nutrition labels, although this cause-effect relationship could be reversed. Nonetheless, further studies would be necessary to clarify the causal direction.

Abstract:
As information technology has evolved, digital media has become increasingly fragmented and has started to proliferate multiple information channels. In order to optimize on the various digital channels that are available, organizations are increasingly recognizing the importance of gaining solid insights into consumer behavior and preferences that can be translated into marketing strategies. Specifically, they are keen to identify which information channels they can use to effectively reach and communicate with their target market. In this regard, this paper describes how multi criteria decision making can be used to develop a new method of decision making that will enable an effective and systematic decision process of fuzzy AHP and TOPSIS. Further, these techniques can be used for the developing framework for identifying consumer preferences. This paper provides a demonstration of the underpinning working methodology of the proposed model by examining an real case that is based on the decision process Internet users employ during their online search for information.

Abstract:
The article focuses on the urgent problem of analyzing the possibilities of using information and communication technologies (ICT) during the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, the main directions of ICT implementation are outlined to mitigate the negative impact and counteract COVID-19; measures aimed at increasing the availability of digital life for Ukrainian society are proposed. It is concluded that enterprises that actively use and implement cases of digital transformation were more ready for coronavirus reality than those that perceived digitalization critically. The article analyzes the «digital» response of the leading countries of the world to solve problems related to the spread and neutralization of negative consequences from COVID-19. The carried out analysis allows to state that most countries have made significant efforts to inform the population about coronavirus disease, while in Ukraine the informing of citizens was insufficiently prompt and timely, and measures require careful planning and support from public authorities. The authors propose measures aimed at mitigating the negative impact and counteracting COVID-19, which provides for the following steps: making national strategic decisions to optimize results as a follow-up of the current global COVID-19 pandemic; further support at the State level of national, regional competition programs for the development of IT startups aimed at mitigating the negative consequences of COVID-19; organization of online hackathons to find digital solutions to counter pandemics; development of regulatory levers of the State support for domestic enterprises that implement IT tools; organization of the State-controlled educational projects to increase the level of digital literacy of Ukrainian society.

Abstract:
Background: The rapid rise of medical expenditure is a common problem in the field of public health around the world, but the challenges for the Chinese government are even greater. How to control the rapid rise in medical expenditure and reduce individuals’ economic burden when receiving medical treatment has become one of the core issues that the Chinese government urgently needs to solve. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of Internet use on individuals’ medical expenditure and further discuss the potential impact mechanism. Methods: The data used in this study were from the 2018 China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) conducted by Peking University. The Heckman sample selection model was used to analyse the impact of Internet use on individuals’ medical expenditure. Results: Internet use reduced the medical expenditure of individuals by 6.19%; high frequency Internet use reduced the medical expenditure of individuals by 15.1%, while low frequency Internet use had no impact. In addition, Internet use had different impacts on individuals’ medical expenditure at different levels of hospitals. Specifically, Internet use reduced the medical expenditure of individuals who received medical treatment at general hospitals by 9.63%, and high frequency Internet use reduced the medical expenditure of individuals by 22.2%. However, Internet use had no impact on the medical expenditure of individuals who received medical treatment at primary hospitals. Conclusions: Findings from this study underscore the importance of Internet use as an important role in reducing individuals’ medical expenditure. The use of the Internet can significantly reduce the level of individuals’ medical expenditure, and high frequency Internet use has a greater effect. However, Internet use has different impacts on individuals’ medical expenditure among different levels of hospitals. The reduction effect of Internet use on individuals’ medical expenditure is mainly concentrated in general hospitals but has no effect in primary hospitals.

Abstract:
Increasing demand for experts capable of high-quality assessment of the impact of a particular planned activity on the environment involves a more effective use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the educational process of training ecology students. The authors present a methodology for students to study the educational material of the “Environmental Impact Assessment” course by using ICT. The methodology and algorithm for using the Padlet interactive whiteboard, Mindomo mind maps, Easel infographics, Google Drive and Google Docs in lectures and practical lessons are described. Particular attention is paid to the preparation of a group project using ICT. Tested in the Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University, the methodology allows to implement a number of tasks such as: promotion of intensification and effectiveness of teaching; acquisition of practical skills to quickly find the necessary information on various online resources for ecology students; simulation of the real procedure of environmental impact assessment in the classroom; development of the ability to professionally communicate with experts in other fields of knowledge or activity, etc. Examination of the results of using ICT to study the “Environmental Impact Assessment” course has shown a significant increase in informational literacy among ecology students and their individual professional growth.

Abstract:
This study investigates whether task information feedback (TIF) promotes 84 auditors' and accounting students' use of higher ethical reasoning, thereby increasing their tendency to consider the public interest in the resolution of ethical dilemmas. TIF is a type of feedback in which subjects are provided with guidance about the cognitive decision-making process they should use. In our experiment, subjects used higher ethical reasoning to resolve audit dilemmas after receiving TIF than they did before receiving TIF. Accordingly, our findings suggest that TIF is effective in promoting higher ethical reasoning and thus increasing the tendency of practicing and aspiring auditors to consider the public interest when resolving ethical dilemmas.
