Abstract:
The monograph reflects the results of a comparative political science study of new increasing models of voter turnout and the abolition of qualifying characteristics of the participation of certain groups of the population in elections in Russia and abroad in the framework of solving the problem of low voter turnout. The use of qualification characteristics and the reduction of restrictive voter turnout models make it possible to increase the number of voters in elections and prevent a decrease in voter turnout. In 2020 they have become even more actively used in elections of all types. The most popular of them are postal voting, remote electronic voting, multi-day voting, and lowering the age of voters. However, in Russia, the abolition of the voting qualification for people with mental problems, foreigners, convicts is not considered as an opportunity to increase voter turnout in elections. The solution to the problem of low voter turnout is expressed in the confidence of the population in the current political and legal institution of elections, and on the part of the state - in the ordering of ways to strengthen it. For a wide range of readers interested in increasing voter turnout. It can be useful for students, postgraduates and teachers of political science universities and faculties.

Abstract:
This book offers a novel perspective on British elections, focusing on the importance of increasing electoral volatility in British elections, and the role of electoral shocks in the context of increasing volatility. It demonstrates how shocks have contributed to the level of electoral volatility, and also which parties have benefited from the ensuing volatility. It follows in the tradition of British Election Study books, providing a comprehensive account of specific election outcomes—the General Elections of 2015 and 2017—and a more general approach to understanding electoral change. We examine five electoral shocks that affected the elections of 2015 and 2017: the rise in EU immigration after 2004, particularly from Eastern Europe; the Global Financial Crisis prior to 2010; the coalition government of the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats between 2010 and 2015; the Scottish Independence Referendum in 2014; and the European Union Referendum in 2016.Our focus on electoral shocks offers an overarching explanation for the volatility in British elections, alongside the long-term trends that have led us to this point. It offers a way to understand the rise and fall of the UK Independence Party (UKIP), Labour’s disappointing 2015 performance and its later unexpected gains, the collapse in support for the Liberal Democrats, the dramatic gains of the Scottish National Party (SNP) in 2015, and the continuing period of tumultuous politics that has followed the EU Referendum and the General Election of 2017. It provides a new way of understanding electoral choice in Britain, and beyond, and a better understanding of the outcomes of recent elections.

Abstract:
Widely stereotyped as anti-immigrant, against civil-rights, or supporters of Trump and the right, can the white working class of the United States really be reduced to a singular group with similar views? This book begins with an overview of how the term “white working class” became weaponized and used as a vessel to describe people who were seen to be “deplorable.” The national narrative appears to credit (or blame) white working-class mobilization across the country for the success of Donald Trump in the 2016 US elections. Those who take this position see the white working class as being problematic in different ways: grounded in norms and behaviors that seem out of step with mainstream society; at odds with the reality of increased ethnic diversity across the country and especially in cities; blaming others for their economic plight; and disengaged from politics. Challenging populist views about the white working class in the United States, the book showcases what they really think about the defining issues in today's America—from race, identity, and change to the crucial on-the-ground debates occurring at the time of the 2016 U.S. election. As the 2020 presidential elections draw near, this is an invaluable insight into the complex views on 2016 election candidates, race, identity and cross-racial connections.
