Full textThis research examines some of the thematic and formal aspects that constitute the work of Uruguayan writer Felisberto Hernández (1902-1964). For its resistance to any formal classification, this narrative world has challenged divergent and renowned critical voices such as Roberto Echavarren´s (1981), Ángel Rama´s (1968, 1985), Jorge Bernardo Rivera´s (1996), José Pedro Díaz´s (1991, 2000) and Davi Arrigucci Jr.´s (2006). From this point on, the present study aims to discuss some of the points that demonstrate its eccentricity inside its production context (that of the first half of 20th century Uruguayan Literature) and to analyze some of the narrative procedures which, in a permanent flow of memories, reveal a quirky (rare) style verified in the use of animated objects, multiple fragmentation processes (of consciousness and body) and its oneiric atmosphere.

Full textLa investigación tiene por objeto analizar desde una perspectiva de género la construcción discursivo-iconográfica de la locura en la mujer por el saber psiquiátrico uruguayo a principios de siglo XX. Para ello se realizará un análisis discursivo de los casos psiquiátricos publicados por los psiquiatras que ejercían la enseñanza en la Universidad de Montevideo y que atendían a las mujeres encerradas en el Manicomio Nacional de Montevideo, para posteriormente realizar un análisis de los retratos fotográficos de aquellas mujeres captados por los mismos psiquiatras. A su vez, se hará una revisión del rol que tuvo la fotografía para el saber científico uruguayo para la construcción de aquellos diagnósticos, así como para el control y disciplinamiento de los cuerpos y psiquis de las mujeres. Se propondrá que la locura en la mujer, más específicamente la histeria, habría sido un diagnóstico construido por la psiquiatría, con el objetivo de patologizar a las mujeres que se alejaban del ideal de mujer esperado por la sociedad de aquella época; así también, se planteará que las escrituras de casos clínicos junto con la realización de retratos fotográficos de las mujeres encerradas en el Manicomio Nacional de Montevideo constituyeron un medio para construir aquella imagen de la locura y validarla. Creemos que este estudio sería relevante al considerar al saber médico uruguayo como un símil a la realidad chilena, dado el constante contacto que mantenían los psiquiatras y médicos del Cono Sur por medio de los congresos médicos y científicos, compartiendo conocimientos y paradigmas.

Full textTyrimo tikslas – išanalizavus išeivijos rašytojų atsiminimus pagrįsti teiginį, kad išeivijos memuaristika kito nuo dokumentinių, politinę tematiką perteikiančių ligi subjektyvių, asmenines problemas analizuojančių kūrinių. Darbo objektu pasirinkti išeivijos rašytojų memuarai. Darbe naudojamasi analitiniu, aprašomuoju ir hermeneutiniu metodais. Ieškant tinkamo teorinio pagrindo, buvo pasirinktos prancūzų teoretiko Philippe`o Lejeune`o (1989) autobiografijos teorija ir kultūrologo Vytauto Kavolio (1998) teorinės įžvalgos analizuojant autobiografinius tekstus. Tyrime atsiminimų knygos buvo suskirstytos į memuarus ir žanro transformacijas. Memuarai dalijami į dokumentinius bei literatūrinius. Rašytojų dokumentiniai memuarai ima vyrauti apie 1940 – uosius metus, kai Lietuvą okupuoja sovietai. Šį faktą komentuoja rašytojai-politikai V. Krėvė, L. Dovydėnas, I. Šeinius, iš arti stebėję situaciją. Jų memuarai išsiskiria aktualiomis to laiko temomis – faktų, istorinių įvykių, politinių detalių gausa. Asmens ir laiko santykio problema, istorinių įvykių sukūryje atsidūrusio žmogaus išgyvenimai politiką iš memuarų išstumia apie 1950-1965 metus. Šių atsiminimų tekstas pasižymi meninių priemonių, vaizdingų detalių, beletrizuotų elementų gausa, yra ganėtinai subjektyvus (M. Vaitkus, J. Aistis, St. Yla ir kt.). Tyrime pabrėžiama, kad XX amžiaus pabaigoje (1965 – 2000) subjektyvumas tampa pagrindine memuarus apibūdinančia savybe. Atsiminimų knygose kalbama apie save ir kitą... [toliau žr. visą tekstą]

Full textThe purpose of this work is to show how the proportionality concept has been approached in mathematics textbooks adopted in Brazil during the 20th Century. To consider the proportionality concept under the perspective of its historical development and under the point of view of the didactical phenomenology contributed to the understanding of the textbooks, because it showed that this concept is placed in the confluence of many others and, thus also brought explanations on its importance for the teaching of mathematics. We analized elementary school textbooks which were important and widely used. Based on these analyses it was possible to identify changes in the treatment of the proportionality concept, considering the theoretic, algorithmic and didactic aspects of the approaches, and the current presentations of the proportionality concept is compared to former approaches.

Full textThis doctoral dissertation analyses a part of the traditional folk costume – festive apron – which is presented not only as a garment, but also as a relatively independent and multidimensional cultural object, and a symbol of ethnic traditions and expressions of national identity. The research covers the period from the 19th century through the early 20th century. It is the first research systematically revealing the process of the apron losing its originally intended use and being given a new meaning in the first half of the 20th century, concurrently becoming a symbol and representative of national identity not only in Lithuania but also in foreign countries. The thesis analyses collections of festive aprons (including votive aprons) of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century available in Lithuanian and foreign museums that have not been previously analysed on a systematic basis. Lithuanian festive aprons identified in foreign museums during the research are valuable supplementation not only to the holdings of these museums, but also to the fund of folk textiles of this type available in Lithuania. This provides an opportunity to assess the forms of artistic expression, the peculiarities of weaving techniques of, and the fabrics used for, festive aprons which, in their entirety, can be used as an important source for reconstructing traditional folk clothing and for studies of the national costume. Full textThe objective for these Master theses is to discuss alteration of religious self awareness in the Lithuanian literature of the beginning of the 20th century. For analysis there were selected several novels: V. M. Putinas “Altoriu sesely”, I.Seinius “Kuprelis” (the third edition released in 1913 and the fourth edition released in 1932) and J. Linde – Dobilas “Bludas”. These novels were chosen for several reasons: they distinctly reflect and demonstrate self awareness of Lithuanians in the beginning of 20th century; also anthropological viewpoint of chosen novels exhibits repeated and common elements of religious self awareness. These Master theses are raising hypothesis, that in the beginning of 20th century in religious and cultural consciousness changes happened, they were expressed through literature, and as literature is a as document of a particular time period, it shows an alteration in cultural environment. Analyzed novels show the formation and change of new, individual self awareness also distinction from dominant cultural array. It is reverse to the tradition, but culturally more significant than ideal description of religion practices in J. Gintautas novel “Tiesiu keliu”, which was written as tendentious apologia of clergy. Old - fashioned way of faith, though culturally more acceptable and yet more supported by society, didn’t entrench mostly because further mechanical understanding of religion (based on rituals as well as entirety of beliefs) and religious self... The documentary source used in this study consists mainly of their historiographical works. In this way, by an historiographical analysis and by a systematic comparation and confrontation of their works, we have approached the debate that results from the different and contrasting political culture and ideological thought present in both as historical actors.

Resumo: Partindo da desmaterialização observada nas artes do século XX por Lucy Lippard, isto é, da perda de interesse dos artistas na evolução física do trabalho de arte, assumo como objeto de estudos um subgrupo de tal fenômeno, distinto por visar à desmaterialização completa como o próprio objeto artístico. Tais propostas, aqui denominadas "Artes do Vazio", desafiam nossa compreensão e dificultam sua caracterização por não resultarem em materialidade física na sua exibição. Neste trabalho, ofereço uma interpretação semiótica e uma resposta aos seus desafios. No primeiro capítulo, abordarei seu contexto de desenvolvimento e sua diversidade através do século XX, ao qual acompanha, simultaneamente, o desenvolvimento de algumas hipóteses interpretativas. Estas, por sua vez, serão analisadas em seus alcances e limites no segundo capítulo. Já o terceiro visa a uma interpretação dos dilemas que as artes do vazio apresentam por contrariarem alguns pressupostos comuns a toda obra de arte, o que as coloca sob o risco de um relativismo em sua interpretação. Para tal, será apresentada a teoria semiótica de Charles S. Peirce, que, articulada à sua fenomenologia e ao seu realismo, mostrar-se-á frutífera na construção de um argumento que oferece uma resposta a tais dilemas. Abstract: Starting from Lucy Lippard's observation of the dematerialization of arts in the twentieth century, that is, of the artists' loss of interest in the physical evolution of the artwork, I take as an object of study a subclass of such phenomenon, distinguished by taking the complete dematerialization as the artistic object itself. These artistic proposals, here labeled as "Emptiness Arts", challenge our comprehension and characterization as they are not materially constituted in their exhibition. In this work, I offer a semiotic interpretation and an answer to these challenges. In the chapter 1, I'll restate its historical development and diversity throughout the twentieth century, and simultaneously offer some interpretative hypothesis. These will be properly discussed and analyzed, in their strengths and weakness, in the chapter 2. Then, chapter 3 will offer a separate interpretation for the dilemmas that emptiness arts offer to our comprehension, as they tend to deny some basic suppositions about the art phenomena, one that could put their interpretations into relativistic risk. For such, the semiotic theory of Charles S. Peirce will be presented. This theory, together with his phenomenology and realistic approach, will show itself fruitful in putting together an answer to such dilemmas. Full textThis thesis centres on the study of the historical novels of Uruguayan writer Eduardo Acevedo Diaz: Ismael (1888), Nativa (1890), Grito de gloria (1893) and Lanza y sable (1914). It comprises three parts, in addition to the Introduction and the Conclusion: 1 - Eduardo Acevedo Diaz’s conception of history. This part includes the study of the way in which real facts as well as historical characters are portrayed. 2 - Other aspects of literary writing. In this part the descriptions of nature, the “costumbrismo” and the treatment of different aspects of the narrative instance are analysed. 3 - The works: their scope and significance. This part deals with the circumstances of the creation of the Uruguayan State and Acevedo Diaz’s objectives: contributing to the creation of a national identity and therefore to the shaping of the national imagination. Different aspects of this project are discussed, from the exaltation of geography and the epic of the independence movement, through different controversies, to the rehabilitation of José Artigas. The controversies lead to the examination of various writers – Argentine as well as Uruguayan – who, at the time, violently attacked the fight for independence and its heroes, in particular José Artigas. Thus, Eduardo Acevedo Diaz devotes himself to the creation of a white legend and refutes opposing views

Full textSpeaking about the influence of modern means of transport (in particular about the motorcycle) in literature, fixes a new way of studying culture, because today we have to cope with more and more powerful and technologically advanced vehicles. Intellectuals acknowledge motorcycles an important role to describing society. Thanks to the motorcycle man exploits a new strength that enables him to overcome his limits. He feels a sort of divinity embodying the same peculiarities as his vehicle. In the past the horse was the most widespread means of transport while today, in an age of airplanes, ships and trains, it has been replaced by the motorcycle, both for the rider's posture and for his contact with the environment and its expressions: rain, sun and wind as well as the perfumes of the Earth. Just like the horse's motion was in the past a way to express narrative processes, the motorcycle has inherited this task today, therefore conditioning the contemporary way of living and thinking.

Full textThis study aims to narrate a history of art works produced by members of popular classes, recognized by its individuality and inventivety, focusing in the production and reception in Brazil between 1880 and 1990. The aesthetic and historic approaches was oriented by phenomenology followed the micro-historic method, guided by the idea of \"primitive\". The fragments of the biographies and evoked images were crossed with the discourse of its interpreters, that proposed designations as such: \"primitive art\", \"psychopathological art\", \"art brut\", \"outsider art\", \"uncommon art\" and \"virginal art\". In the historical context of the Brazilian culture two principal ways of interpretation were opened: one of them is derivated from the scientificism of the psychiatric discourse and the other from the romantic discourse about the popular culture. Nevertheless the contribution of the french notion of Art Brut to question these ways, the complexity of the Brazilian artistic production impose a particular analyses that reveals the \"primitive\" in its ambiguity

Resumo: A história da literatura é também a história de autores e obras outsiders, ocultadas que estão em plano secundário ou pouco visível. No Brasil, Walter Campos de Carvalho (1916-1998) é um desses autores. Seus livros movimentaram a cena literária brasileira de meados do século XX, principalmente pela oferta de uma dicção polêmica e algo incendiária. Humor, iconoclastia, ateísmo, sexualidade problemática e espírito anarquista consagram-no como uma das vozes mais inquietas da moderna ficção brasileira. Seu espírito contestador mobilizou um fiel público de admiradores - público que o colocou em uma posição que bem poderíamos nomear Cult -, mas também contribuiu para o isolamento que o teria levado a romper com a literatura. Recolhido ao silêncio por mais de trinta anos, o escritor ficou na gangorra que ora o eleva, prometendo-lhe o ressurgimento, ora o despreza fazendo com que volte ao olvido. Neste trabalho, busco novos aspectos do autor e de sua trajetória, explorando textos no geral desconhecidos e rigorosamente preservados de qualquer trabalho de análise. Igualmente procurei ângulos recônditos de obras mais visitadas como A lua vem da Ásia e A Chuva Imóvel, não porque almejasse a crítica do ineditismo, mas simplesmente por não assentir com todas as formas pelas quais o autor é visto e com os estereótipos usualmente ofertados pela crítica que o alcançou
Abstract: The history of literature is also the literary history of outside writers and work, hidden like they are in a second level, lacking visibility. In Brazil, Walter Campos de Carvalho (1916-1998) is one of these writers. His books showed up the Brazilian literary scene in the middle of the 20th century, mainly due to the polemic and some incendiary diction it had to offer. Humor, iconoclasm, atheism, problematic sexuality and anarchist spirit consecrated him like as one of the most outspoken voices of the Brazilian modern fiction. His refutable mind mobilized a faithful public of admirers - such a public that put him in a position we might well call Cult -, but also contributed to the isolation that would lead to a break with the literature. Withdrawn in silence for over thirty years, the writer was in a see-saw that would raise him, promising him resurgence, then despise him making him return to oblivion. In this work I seek new aspects of Campos literature and its history, exploring texts in general unknown and strictly preserved of any analytical work. I also tried recondite angles on two of his more popular books A lua vem da Ásia and A Chuva Imóvel, not because I craved a critique of originality, but simply for not assenting to all the ways in which the author is seen an the stereotypes usually offered by critics that attained him

Full textThe objective of this research is to put into context the the experience of the group LUME (Interdisciplinary Center of Theater Research of UNICAMP) according to the XX century theater research tradition. In the first part of this work we identify the historical movement that made the consolidation of a theater based on the 20th century actor possible. We also map out the main points concerning the proposal about the actor formation established by Constantin Stanislavski, Etienne Decroux, Jerzy Grotowski and Eugenio Barba. In the second part we present the proposal and the objectives from the group LUME: we describe their research lines and put into evidence how their most important influences were appropriated and reprocessed in their own way to work the actor and think about theater.

A presente pesquisa tem como principal finalidade descrever e analisar a abordagem do pronome em sete gramáticas brasileiras produzidas no século XX. Observou-se todo tipo de referência sobre essa classe gramatical - seu conceito, classificação, tipologia, topologia e uso - oferecido por grandes nomes de gramaticografia brasileira, a saber: Antenor Nascentes, Carlos Henrique da Rocha Lima, Celso Cunha, Eduardo Carlos Pereira, Evanildo Bechara, Gladstone Chaves de Melo e Manuel Said Ali. No tratamento do texto gramatical, procurou-se atentar para os princípios e metodologia da Historiografia da Linguística definidos por Konrad Koerner e Pierre Swiggers. Assim, dedica-se a primeira parte do texto à teoria que irá permear toda a pesquisa. Em outro momento, faz-se referência à contextualização histórico-cultural em que os compêndios gramaticais foram produzidos, à história da educação brasileira e ao papel da gramática nas aulas de língua portuguesa no século XX. O capítulo destinado à biografia dos autores permite entender um pouco mais a respeito de sua formação, as influências teóricas que receberam e a repercussão que suas obras tiveram no contexto educacional brasileiro. A descrição pronominal, realizada no capítulo de número cinco, permite verificar que o pensamento gramatical dos autores do século XX acerca do pronome convergia, em sua essência, não obstante se ressaltem, na conclusão, alguns aspectos em que houve divergência de opinião. Dentre as obras que serviram de corpus para esta pesquisa, cumpre destacar que a Gramática expositiva (1918), de Eduardo Carlos Pereira, é a que oferece uma abordagem pronominal mais distinta dos demais textos estudados
The present research aims to describe and analyze the study of the pronoun in seven 20th Century Brazilian grammars. It refers to all aspects regarding this grammatical part of speech - including its concept, classification, typology, topology and use – that are offered by great names of the Brazilian grammaticography, namely Antenor Nascentes, Carlos Henrique da Rocha Lima, Celso Cunha, Eduardo Carlos Pereira, Evanildo Bechara, Gladstone Chaves de Melo e Manuel Said Ali. The treatment of these grammatical texts is based on the principles and methodology of the Historiography of Linguistics as established by Konrad Koerner and Pierre Swiggers. The first part of this these explains the theory that will guide all research. In the next chapter it is touched the historical-cultural context in which the grammatical text books were written, as well as the history of Brazilian education and to the role of grammar text books in the 20th Century Portuguese language classes. A chapter is dedicated to the authors’ biography, which allows us to understand their lives, their theoretical influences and the repercussion that their works in the Brazilian educational context. The pronominal description made in chapter five is important to conclude that the 20th century grammatical thought about the pronoun is unique in its essence. The conclusion touches some aspects in which there was a slight divergence of opinion among the works that served as corpus for this research, from what one can state that Eduardo Carlos Pereira 's Grammatica expositiva (1918) is the one that offers a distinct pronominal approach

Com base nas recentes teses da Historiografia da Linguística, apresentamos, neste trabalho a descrição dos conectivos em cinco gramáticas da denominada “Geração NGB”. Para o desenvolvimento da presente pesquisa, elegeram- se as seguintes obras: Gramática normativa da língua portuguesa (1960[1957]), de Carlos Henrique da Rocha Lima, Moderna gramática portuguesa (1964[1961]), de Evanildo Bechara, Pequena gramática: para explicação da nova nomenclatura gramatical (1960 [1959]), de Adriano da Gama Kury, Gramática do português contemporâneo (1971[1969]), de Celso Cunha e Gramática fundamental da língua portuguesa (1970[1968]), de Gladstone Chaves de Melo. A escolha dos autores mencionados justifica-se por tratar-se de gramáticos consagrados que deixaram um legado de pesquisa em nossa língua e lograram obter grande aceitação de suas obras no âmbito do ensino básico da língua vernácula. Tivemos a intenção de, ao examinar essas obras, averiguar o modo como esses conectivos são descritos pelos autores, com o propósito de justificar as abordagens, considerando as influências dos estudos linguísticos da época em que foram escritas. Os resultados apontam que estes gramáticos descreveram os conectivos da língua portuguesa pautados em uma uniformidade teórica, assinalando, assim, a existência de harmonia entre as gramáticas da “Geração NGB” quanto à descrição dos conectivos.
Based on the latest theses on Historiography of Linguistics, in this paper, we offer a description on connectives from five different grammar books in the so-called “NGB Generation". To develop this research, the following works have been selected: Gramática normativa da língua portuguesa (1960[1957, by Carlos Henrique da Rocha Lima, Moderna gramática portuguesa (1964[1961]), by Evanildo Bechara, Pequena gramática: para explicação da nova nomenclatura gramatical (1960 [1959]), by Adriano da Gama Kury, Gramática do português contemporâneo (1971[1969]), by Celso Cunha and Gramática fundamental da língua portuguesa (1970[1968]), by Gladstone Chaves de Melo. The above mentioned authors have been chosen on the grounds that they are renowned grammarians, who have left a research legacy for our language and whose works have received wide recognition in terms of basic language education. When examining such works, our purpose has been to identify how these connectives are described by the authors, with aims to explain their approaches, by taking into account any influences from other linguistic studies at the time they were written. Our results indicate that these grammarians described Portuguese connectives guided by a theoretical uniformity, thus evidencing the balance existing among the NGB Generation grammar books as regards the description of connectives.

Resumo: Nossa tese de doutorado tem por objetivo contribuir para 0 conhecimento acerca da historia da arte brasileira do final do século XIX e começo do XX, por meio da analise de obras e dos momentos que marcaram a trajetória do escultor Rodolfo Bernardelli (1852-1931). O jovem aluno da Academia Imperial de Belas Artes começa a ganhar destaque no cenário das artes nacionais a partir da sua participação nas Exposições Gerais de Belas Artes, na década de 1870. Apos um período de estudo na Europa, o artista retornou ao Brasil em 1885 e por seus trabalhos realizados no exterior, foi denominado pela critica como artista moderno, recebendo as principais encomendas monumentais da época. Bernardelli foi o principal escultor da primeira década republicana no Brasil e Primeira Republica e atuou como diretor da Escola Nacional de Belas Artes - ENBA, por cerca de 25 anos.
Abstract: Our aim in this thesis is to contribute to the knowledge of the history of Brazilian Art between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century through the study of the works and the life moments of the sculptor Rodolfo Bernardelli (1852-1931). The young pupil of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts begun to gain attention from the national art realm after his participations, along the 187 O's, at General Fine Arts Exhibitions. In 1885, after a period of studies in Europe, the artist returned to Brazil and was then acclaimed as a modern artist by the critics because of the pieces produced abroad. He then received the main monumental commissions of the period. Bernardelli was the main sculptor of Brazil during the first decade of the Republic and was the director of the National School of Fine Arts - ENBA, during almost 25 years.

Full textThis research aims to contribute to the historical understanding of the role played by homeopathy in scientific and social development in Catalonia at the beginning of the 20th century (1890-1924) from the efforts of this group to professionalize and relate to the orthodox science of this time. The thesis explores the different strategies of legitimation used by the group of homeopathic doctors not to be excluded from the scientific current that was being defined, and part of the hypothesis that in the first decades of the 20th century, in a context in which the conceptual framework of today’s medicine was being defined, the processes of social and scientific construction were key in the legitimation and the consequent obtaining of authority, of each of the medical systems that made up the medical science of the moment. In this sense, the memory deepens in key areas in the development of medicine: the institutionalization of the discipline and its organs of diffusion; the competence market of clinics and dispensaries along with the relationship of the homeopathic remedy with the pharmaceutical market and the consequent transformation of the patient into a client; and the introduction of the laboratory and experimental discourses as key aspects in the scientific consolidation of medicine. From the study of bidirectional relationships in these different areas, the thesis shows the debates, controversies and epistemological changes that took place within the homeopathic movement itself and that were key in the development of the discipline. At the same time, this research introduces how, from the strategies used for its legitimation, homeopathy participated in the consolidation of the liberal / capitalist society, endowing the Catalan capital with institutions for the maintenance of social order and resignifying homeopathic therapeutics to include the homeopathic remedy in a powerful market, and at the same time reveals the connections between the aristocratic and bourgeois classes with the public presence of the discipline through the analysis of the Hospital Homeópata del Niño Dios. This report presents, from a novel historiographic perspective and characterized by its critical approach, the strategies of legitimation, the processes of inclusion, exclusion, reception and adaptation of new scientific discoveries by a medical system that sought to legitimize its postulates so as not to be excluded. of official medicine. The thesis reveals the key strategies in the social and scientific construction of homeopathy in Catalonia: the institutional strategy, the discursive and the methodological or experimental, which paradoxically in some cases caused the social legitimization and the scientific delegitimization of homeopathy.

Full textThis thesis aims at analysing two processes of linguistic change involving prepositions a and pra in Brazilian Portuguese, namely grammaticalization and semanticization. The research is based on Castilhos proposal (2006), which perceives language as a complex system, devided into four subsystems: Grammar, Semantics, Discourse and Lexicon. The author assumes that there is no determination and hierarchy among them and all features of each happen simultanously in the mind, and so is my position here. The analysis takes into account some syntactic and semantic features, such as the position of the prepositions in the sentence relative to the verb, the category of their complements and the type of verb to which they are associated. Moreover, the text type was also considered as a relevant issue, based on Simões & Kewitz works (2005, 2006). For a more accurate linguistic change analysis, one must observe the context in which such texts were produced, relative to the following categories: (i) degree of symmetry between writer/reader and speaker/hearer; (ii) degree of text planning; (iii) dimension of communicative action, among others. As for their semantic value, in general, their basic sense direction/end point of a journey/goal tends to be kept in both centuries. Even in more abstract contexts, such senses can be perceived through metaphor mechanism. Their basic role is to establish spatial relations between Figure and Ground (or Reference Point). Based on data from Brazilian documents of the 19th and 20th centuries, this research confirms the results found in the relevant literature relative to lingusitics change: a>para. Nevertheless, generalizations have been avoided, for I am concerned with the factors mentioned above.

Full textThe German photographer August Sander (1876-1964) was the author of one of the most appreciated photographic work from last century, Man in the Twentieth Century, a vast documental photography project, started in the 1920s, basically composed by portraits, organized by the author according to societys kinds of occupations. Some of the portraits are described here in detail in order to find in its visible proprieties, indications related to the aspects of perception which Sander used in his view of the world. The analysis of those images are confronted with the classification criteria adopted by him and articulated with several pieces of information related to the photographic environment from that time, to the German social political context and to the photographers biography. This procedure took us to the researchs central hypothesis: more than representations of social types, as Sander believed, Man in the Twentieth Century is a whole of stereotypes in the sense that his portraits are constructed realities that correspond to a kind of social perception. As for the perception of the real, most of the portraits correspond to the stereotypes that are socially understood. The current study essentially states that Man in the Twentieth Century is the narration of Sanders interpretation about that German historic period. From this point of view, the analysis done not only interprets the art work, but also interprets the circumstanced interpretation from the one who idealized it. Therefore, it is not a study about the narrated facts, but about the way Sander narrated them, his perception of the world enrolled in the interpretation that he does about the real, circumstanced by several social facts.

Resumo: O filósofo francês Jean-François Lyotard (1924-1998) desenvolve uma estética calcada no conceito de sublime a partir de seus escritos sobre arte pertencentes às décadas de 1980 e 1990. Tais formulações são pertencentes ao seu período filosófico caracterizado como virada kantiana, embasado na leitura da filosofia crítica de Kant, porém, com nuances de influência burkeana. O presente trabalho tem por objetivo investigar os conceitos descritores desta estética do sublime de Lyotard, bem como a maneira como eles são utilizados no comentário de questões da música, em especial, das vanguardas musicais do século XX. Pretende-se problematizar o papel da música na constituição da estética de Lyotard, bem como o alcance e adequação dos compositores elencados pelo filósofo como exemplos de autores comprometidos com os valores do sublime. Apresenta-se por hipótese principal a afirmação de que o sublime de Lyotard encontra uma adequação privilegiada e singular na obra do compositor norte-americano Morton Feldman (1926-1987), devido à busca pelo despojamento do espírito-sujeito-consciência presente tanto na obra do filósofo quanto na obra ensaística e musical do compositor. Como consequência, conclui-se que uma crítica musical que deseja abordar as presentes questões do sublime demanda uma escrita ensaística que ecoa uma filosofia do acontecimento, evocando a abertura de determinação da linguagem em favor de uma maneira (e não um método) de investigação de tipo reflexiva, nos termos da lei... Abstract: The French philosopher Jean-François Lyotard (1924-1998) develops an aesthetic based on the concept of sublime from his writings on art from the decades of 1980 and 1990. Such formulations belong to his philosophical period characterized as Kantian turn, based on the reading of Kant's critical philosophy, but with nuances of Burke's influence. The present work aims to investigate the descriptive concepts of Lyotard's aesthetic of the sublime, as well as the way they are used in the commentary of music issues, especially those of the musical avant-gardes of the twentieth century. It is intended to problematize the role of music in the constitution of Lyotard's aesthetics, as well as the scope and appropriateness of the composers listed by the philosopher as examples of authors committed to the values of the sublime. The main hypothesis is the assertion that Lyotard's sublime finds a privileged and singular fit in the work of the American composer Morton Feldman (1926-1987), due to the search for the divestiture of the spirit-subject-consciousness present both in the work of the philosopher and in the essayist and musical work of the composer. As a consequence, it is concluded that a musical critique that wants to address the present issues of the sublime demands an essayist writing that echoes a philosophy of the event, evoking the opening of language determination toward a manner (and not a method) of reflexive type of investigation, in terms of Lyotard's reading of the Kant'... Abstract: The present study focuses on the Blackboard as an artistic object in the work of Joseph Beuys and aimes an aproximation with the observer. It wants to capture the interest of the spectator for the sensible paths proposed by the scribbles. It intends to drive the sensitivity of the spectator in order to expand the experience of humanistic values. As a support, the blackboard reveals the artist's commitment to a living art, to life. The research offers itself as a guiding thread to those who are interested in the expansion of the concept of art. At the same time, it aims to evidence, through an immersion in some symbols, the directions and landscapes of the artist's thought

Full textA presente dissertação investiga a relevância da Formação enquanto tema de pesquisa científica. Trata-se de uma revisão crítica da produção científica sobre Formação publicada durante o século XX, com o objectivo de analisar a evolução histórica: do número de artigos e de revistas responsáveis pela sua publicação; dos temas e métodos de formação referidos pelos artigos; dos autores e das características desta produção científica. Através deste estudo concluímos que a Formação foi um tema de pesquisa relevante durante o século XX, pelas razões que se seguem. O número de artigos analisados revelou-se crescente (a partir da década de 20 e sobretudo nas 2 últimas décadas do século). Constatámos diversificação progressiva nas revistas responsáveis pela publicação destes artigos, a partir da década de 30. A análise de conteúdo dos artigos revelou diversificação temática (a partir da década de 30), embora tenhamos verificado que, durante o século XX, existiram 3 principais temas (a Formação em Contabilidade, a Formação em Gestão e a própria Formação, enquanto tema principal de pesquisa). Verificámos igualmente que, a par da diversificação temática, ocorreu a diversificação nos métodos de formação (a partir da década de 20). O método mais referido pelos artigos analisados durante todo o século XX foi a formação presencial (seguida da formação em contexto de trabalho). Por fim, ao analisar as principais características da produção científica sobre Formação ao longo do século XX, constatámos que a publicação de estudos empíricos surgiu na década de 40 e manteve-se até ao final do século XX, assim como a publicação em co-autoria, iniciada na década de 50. Constituiram importantes limitações a esta pesquisa: o facto de termos trabalhado sobre uma base de dados que excluiu grande parte da produção científica europeia, assim como o facto de não termos analisado a totalidade dos artigos publicados no período em estudo.
The present dissertation investigates the relevance of Training as a scientific research topic. This is a critical review of the scientific production on Training published during the 20th century, with the objective of analyzing the historic evolution: on the number of papers and journals responsible for their publication; on the topics and methods of training referred by the papers; on the authors and characteristics of this scientific production. Through this study we have concluded that Training was a relevant study topic during the 20th century, for the reasons that follows. The number of papers analysed grew (from the 20s and especially on the last two decades of the century). We verified progressively diversification on the journals responsible for the publication of these papers from the 30s. The analysis of the content of the articles revealed diversification of topics (from the 30s); though we verified that, throughout the 20th century, there were 3 main topics (Training in Accountancy, Training in Management and Training itself, as a main study topic). We also verified that, with the topic diversification, there was a diversification in the methods of training (also from the 20s). The method most mentioned by the papers analysed was inclass training (followed by on-the-job training). Finally, when analysing the main characteristics of scientific production on Training during the 20th century, we noticed that empiric studies appeared in the 40s and has been present until the end of the 20th century, as well as the publishing by co-authors, which begun in the 50s. Were important limitations to this research: the fact that we worked on a database which ruled much of the European scientific production, as well as the fact that we have not examined all the papers published in the study period.

Full textA música erudita ocidental do século XX tem sido objeto de muitos estudos, no entanto, a perspectiva difundida de que este é um repertório de pluralidade extrema tende a isolar as diferentes vertentes estético-composicionais. Se por um lado esta perspectiva trouxe grandes avanços no conhecimento das peculiaridades de cada vertente, por outro lado ela tem impedido a reflexão sobre suas similaridades e confluências. Particularmente importante é o fato de que as obras musicais contemporâneas, independentemente da vertente à qual pertencem, são fruto de estratégias composicionais que almejam algum tipo de diálogo com seus ouvintes, do frequentador da sala de concerto, ao teórico/analista profissional. Este diálogo tem como ponto de partida a constituição de um salto qualitativo, onde os diferentes materiais sonoros são percebidos como integrantes de uma unidade maior e mais complexa, a obra musical, cuja percepção somente é possível se for estabelecida alguma correlação entre a organização formal da obra e as capacidades interpretativas do ouvinte. Cabe aos campos da Teoria e da Análise Musical a consideração desta questão, entretanto, eles se mostram tão complexos quanto a própria pluralidade sonora contemporânea que tentam compreender uma vez que há, na atualidade, uma grande diversidade de ferramentas analíticas que se baseiam em arcabouços teóricos distintos, muitas vezes conflitantes. Buscando confrontar este quadro de aparente relativismo total em relação à possibilidade de compreensão do repertório contemporâneo, consideramos que há padrões de organização musical que transcendem as diferenças estilísticas, os quais podem ser compreendidos a partir da perspectiva de que a música é uma linguagem. The XXth-century Western Art Music has been the object of many studies, however, the widespread vision that this is an extremely plural repertoire tends to isolate the different aesthetical-compositional trends. If this perspective has allowed many advances regarding the knowledge of their particularities, it also has hindered the comprehension of their similarities and confluences. Particularly important is the fact that contemporary musical compositions, regardless of the trends they are associated with, are the product of compositional strategies that aim to establish some kind of dialogue with the listeners, from the concert hall public to the professional theorist/analyst. The starting point for this dialogue is the constitution of a qualitative leap, where the different sound materials are perceived as integrating a larger and more complex unity, the musical composition, which is only possible if it is established come correlation between the formal organization of the composition and the interpretative capacities of the listener. It is up to the fields of Musical Theory and Analysis to ponder upon this matter, nonetheless they are themselves as complex as the contemporary musical plurality they try to comprehend: nowadays, there is a considerable diversity of analytical tools, which are based on distinct (even conflicting) theoretical grounds. Against this seeming frame of total relativity regarding the possibilities of comprehension of the contemporary musical repertoire, it is proposed here that there are patterns of musical organization that transcend the stylistic differences, which can be grasped from the perspective that music is a language. This thesis is supported by the discussion of a group of central tenets: 1) that the processes of musical listening and musical analysis are directly dependant of a system of categorization structured around our perceptual and cognitive mechanisms ...

Full textThis thesis aims an understanding of the process of definition and constitution of two professional and knowledge fields - the historiographic field and the archivistic field - as well as their reciprocal interactions, in Twentieth Century Santa Catarina. Part I focus on the historiography on Santa Catarina, discussing the tensions between the ?new generation? (strongly identified to the University environment) and the representatives of the ?traditional history? (usually associated to the Santa Catarina Institute for History and Geography - Instituto Histórico e Geográfico de Santa Catarina - IHGSC), investigating the places and conditions in which works of historical nature were produced, as well as their dissemination. Part II investigates the atempts to build policy, common legislation and collaborative networks for the archives of Santa Catarina, especially after the 1980\'s. There are also studies on the role of the State Archives of Santa Catarina (Arquivo Público do Estado de Santa Catarina) and, after the 1970\'s, on the legislation on City Archives. Part III has a closer focus on four City Archives - Blumenau, Joinville, Itajaí and Florianópolis Archives-, highlighting their relation with the ways memory is produced, with the elaboration and validation of historical narratives, with administrative efficiency and with the warranty of access to documents as a condition for effective citizenship.
