Abstract:
The recovery of bandlimited signals with high dynamic range is a hot issue in sampling research. The unlimited sampling theory expands the recordable range of traditional analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) arbitrarily, and the signal is folded back into a low dynamic range measurement, avoiding the saturation problem. Since the non-bandlimited signal in the Fourier domain cannot be directly applied to its existing theory, the non-bandlimited signal in the Fourier domain may be bandlimited in the fractional Fourier domain. Therefore, this brief report studies the unlimited sampling problem of high dynamic non-bandlimited signals in the Fourier domain based on the fractional Fourier transform. Firstly, a mathematical signal model for unlimited sampling is proposed. Secondly, based on this mathematical model, the annihilation filtering method is used to estimate the arbitrary folding time. Finally, a novel fractional Fourier domain unlimited sampling theorem is obtained. The theory proves that, based on the folding characteristics of the self-reset ADC, the number of samples is not affected by the modulo threshold, and any folding time can be handled.

Abstract:
We consider the application of importance sampling in steady-state simulations of finite Markov chains. We show that, for a large class of performance measures, there is a choice of the alternative transition matrix for which the ratio of the variance of the importance sampling estimator to the variance of the naive simulation estimator converges to zero as the sample path length goes to infinity. Obtaining this ‘optimal’ transition matrix involves computing the performance measure of interest, so the optimal matrix cannot be computed in precisely those situations where simulation is required to estimate steady-state performance. However, our results show that alternative transition matrices of the form Q = P + E/T, where P is the original transition matrix and T is the sample path length, can be expected to provide good results. Moreover, we provide an iterative algorithm for obtaining alternative transition matrices of this form that converge to the optimal matrix as the number of iterations increases, and present an example that shows that spending some computer time iterating this algorithm and then conducting the simulation with the resulting alternative transition matrix may provide considerable variance reduction when compared to naive simulation.

Abstract:
.Indonesia is the most active country in using social media. Indonesia is also the largest online market with the fastest growth in Southeast Asia. This has caused many adult mobile internet users to purchase service packages that are considered satisfactory in terms of both quantity and quality. The phenomenon of internet growth and adult mobile internet users in Indonesia is certainly a potential target of telecommunications operators in marketing products in accordance with the wishes of consumers. The population in this study is consumers of mobile users who are equipped with modems for the internet (mobile internet) aged 18-40 years, especially who bought the unlimited Smartfren service package in Palembang. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling. The measuring instrument used in the form of a scale of mobile internet consumer behavior and purchasing decisions. The analysis technique used is quantitative analysis using simple regression analysis (simple regression) with SPSS Version 20 for Windows aids. Based on the results of data analysis, it is known that the correlation coefficient between mobile internet consumer behavior and purchasing decisions is r = 0.846 with p = 0.000 where p ≤ 0.01. Thus, the hypothesis which states that there is a relationship between consumer behavior of mobile internet with the decision to purchase unlimited smartfren service packages in Palembang is proven. Thus, there is a very significant relationship between the behavior of consumers of mobile internet with the decision to purchase an unlimited smartfren service package in Palembang.

Abstract:
AbstractWe used data from statewide surveys of riparian birds in Utah, 1992–1998, to compare relative-abundance and distance-sampling methods. By generating relative-abundance indices with point-count methods and density with point-transect sampling methods, we examined whether the assumptions underlying each method were met during field surveys for four bird species (Brown-headed Cowbird [Molothrus ater], Bullock's Oriole [Icterus bullockii], Warbling Vireo [Vireo gilvus], and Yellow Warbler [Dendroica petechia]). Point-count methods failed to reasonably meet the fundamental assumption of constant proportionality, with estimated detectability varying 3- to 5-fold despite the use of widely accepted and well-standardized methods. Population trends based on relative abundance were subsequently unstable, often varying in both magnitude and direction with the survey plot radius used (25 m, 50 m, or unlimited distance). Distance-sampling methods appeared to meet critical assumptions, were robust to assumption violations, allowed methodological self-assessment, and were demonstrably efficient in a large-scale, multispecies survey setting. Our data show surveys of birds without estimations of detectability are likely biased because the assumption of constant proportionality is violated to a degree that precludes strict inference and may confound trend analyses.

Abstract:
In this paper, we investigate time-domain errors occurring in the two extreme discrete-time differentiation modes of band-unlimited signals: in the full-band processing mode and in the processing mode with ideal anti-aliasing filtering (AAF) with a cut-off at the Nyquist frequency. We disclosed that regardless sampling frequency the error from AAF is greater than the aliasing error. It is found that type IV differentiators designed by three commonly known digital filter design methods approximately equally process the high frequency portion of the signal above the Nyquist frequency with nearly equal aliasing errors having a weak dependence on differentiator length. In contrast, the differentiators very differently compute the derivatives of the low frequency portion bellow the Nyquist frequency providing rather dissimilar the common differentiation accuracy. The results show that the differentiators derived by using maximal linearity constraints are more accurate than those designed by the Parks-McClellan algorithm and the impulse response truncation method.

Abstract:
Principal components analysis is a powerful technique which can be used to reduce data dimensionality. With reference to three-dimensional bone shape models, it can be used to generate an unlimited number of models, defined by thousands of nodes, from a limited (less than twenty) number of scalars. The full procedure has been here described in detail and tested. Two databases were used as input data: the first database comprised 40 mandibles, while the second one comprised 98 proximal femurs. The “average shape” and principal components that were required to cover at least 90% of the whole variance were identified for both bones, as well as the statistical distributions of the respective principal components weights. Fifteen principal components sufficed to describe the mandibular shape, while nine components sufficed to describe the proximal femur morphology. A routine has been set up to generate any number of mandible or proximal femur geometries, according to the actual statistical shape distributions. The set-up procedure can be generalized to any bone shape given a sufficiently large database of the respective 3D shapes.

The ability to produce and understand an unlimited number of different sentences is a hallmark of human language. Linguists have sought to define the essence of this generative capacity using formal grammars that describe the syntactic dependencies between constituents, independent of the computational limitations of the human brain. Here, we evaluate this independence assumption by sampling sentences uniformly from the space of possible syntactic structures. We find that the average dependency distance between syntactically related words, a proxy for memory limitations, is less than expected by chance in a collection of state-of-the-art classes of dependency grammars. Our findings indicate that memory limitations have permeated grammatical descriptions, suggesting that it may be impossible to build a parsimonious theory of human linguistic productivity independent of non-linguistic cognitive constraints.

Abstract:
AbstractWe have developed a system for simulating the conditions of avian surveys in which birds are identified by sound. The system uses a laptop computer to control a set of amplified MP3 players placed at known locations around a survey point. The system can realistically simulate a known population of songbirds under a range of factors that affect detection probabilities. The goals of our research are to describe the sources and range of variability affecting point-count estimates and to find applications of sampling theory and methodologies that produce practical improvements in the quality of bird-census data. Initial experiments in an open field showed that, on average, observers tend to undercount birds on unlimited-radius counts, though the proportion of birds counted by individual observers ranged from 81% to 132% of the actual total. In contrast to the unlimited-radius counts, when data were truncated at a 50-m radius around the point, observers overestimated the total population by 17% to 122%. Results also illustrate how detection distances decline and identification errors increase with increasing levels of ambient noise. Overall, the proportion of birds heard by observers decreased by 28 ± 4.7% under breezy conditions, 41 ± 5.2% with the presence of additional background birds, and 42 ± 3.4% with the addition of 10 dB of white noise. These findings illustrate some of the inherent difficulties in interpreting avian abundance estimates based on auditory detections, and why estimates that do not account for variations in detection probability will not withstand critical scrutiny.Análisis Experimentales del Proceso de Detección Auditiva en Puntos de Conteo de Aves

Abstract:
Umicore Precious Metals Refining is one of the world’s largest precious metals recycling facilities. This plant recycles very diverse waste streams containing precious and other non-ferrous metals. More than 200 different types of raw materials are being processed here, varying from complex mining concentrates and refining residues coming from the mining industry and other smelters up to precious metals containing production scraps and end-of life materials such as electronic scrap and car catalysts. All these materials need to be sampled and analysed, of course, to determine the metal content (and so the value) of each individual lot. It is clear that heterogeneity rules in this process! Next to the obvious heterogeneity of the material itself, there is also a huge variety e.g. in lot size, in packaging, in physical appearance of the different materials, … which is also to be taken into account during the sampling process. To take all these hurdles, the necessary resources are … unfortunately… – not unlimited. In this article we will gain more insight on how this complex problem is tackled in practice within Umicore, with respect for the Theory of Sampling. A couple of major specific sampling lines have been developed and designed in particular to be able to deal with the variety in physical appearance of the materials itself. Additionally, a large number of sampling procedures are made up in a modular way, to be able to cope with the necessary flexibility demanded for. Some examples will be illustrated and described more in detail, with specific attention to the most important influencing circumstances. Furthermore, the way the overall performance and quality of this whole process is supervised, will be explained. And finally, we’ll discuss some special cases where“nothing seems to be what expected for”…

Abstract:
Diabetes mellitus is metabolic syndrome characterized by disorder in metabolism of carbon hydrates, lipids and proteins. The diagnosis of diabetes is established by measuring the blood glucose level using standardized methods. Frequent monitoring of blood glucose level could be inconvenient for patients because of possible pain during blood sample taking. In the last few years biological materials with non invasive sampling, like saliva, have been analyzed. Research has confirmed that some organic and inorganic components of saliva are modified in diabetic patients (glucose, lipid and protein components, oxidative stress markers, electrolytes). Beside other markers, the analysis of glucose in saliva is an attempt to find a non-invasive and painless way for frequent monitoring of glucose concentration in diabetic patients. Collecting saliva is simple and economical, it neither requires expensive equipment nor specially trained staff. Saliva can be taken many times and in unlimited quantity. In regards to the data about the possibilities for using saliva as biological sample in monitoring diabetes mellitus, which could be alternative to blood serum or plasma, the conclusion is that saliva becomes more important in this context.

Abstract:
A novel method is described to automatically estimate several key parameters affecting denitrification in activated sludge processes: the nitrate concentration, the denitrification capacity, and the maximum (substrate unlimited) and actual denitrification rates. From these, the concentration of active denitrifying microorganisms and the quality of available organic substrate pool can be estimated. Additionally, a modification of the method allows the determination of the efficacy of various carbon substrates to enhance denitrification, and this can be used to determine optimal dosing rates of an external carbon source. The method is based on measurements of either fluorescence or redox potential (ORP) in an isolated mini-reactor, the Biological Activity Meter (BAM), situated in the anoxic zone of the wastewater treatment plant. Advantages of the method are that it is in situ, operating at the same temperature as in the measured anoxic zone, requires no pumps or pipes for mixed liquor sampling, consumes little or no reagents, and uses measurement signals which are instantaneous and low maintenance, one of which provides a direct measure of biological activity.

Abstract:
An escape from cellular senescence through the development of unlimited growth potential is one of the hallmarks of cancer, which is thought to be an early event in carcinogenesis. In this review, we propose that the molecular effectors of senescence, particularly the inactivation of TP53 and CDKN2A, together with telomere attrition and telomerase activation, all lead to aneuploidy in the keratinocytes from oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMD). Premalignant keratinocytes, therefore, not only become immortal but also develop genotypic and phenotypic cellular diversity. As a result of these changes, certain clonal cell populations likely gain the capacity to invade the underlying connective tissue. We review the clinical implications of these changes and highlight a new PCR-based assay to identify aneuploid cell in fluids such as saliva, a technique that is extremely sensitive and could facilitate the regular monitoring of OPMD without the need for surgical biopsies and may avoid potential biopsy sampling errors. We also draw attention to recent studies designed to eliminate aneuploid tumour cell populations that, potentially, is a new therapeutic approach to prevent malignant transformations in OPMD.
