Abstract:
PurposeThe purpose of this case study is to demonstrate a current model, as well as explore future models, for integrating institutional repositories (IRs) in higher education goals at the University of Toledo. Design/methodology/approachThis is a case study that uses literature review as an exploratory framework for new approaches while reflecting on existing literature to present the current practical framework for using IRs. FindingsThe digital environment has pushed academic institutions toward new strategies for curating their record on scholarship and preserving their heritage collections, using their IRs. Innovative approaches are also vital to curating the IR content digitally to facilitate access to those contents in ways that was not possible a few decades ago. Surveys and existing literature point to increasing uses of IRs despite abstinence from considering open access for scholarly activity among faculty concerned about copyright, plagiarism and sustainability. Staffing and funding IR initiatives are important factors in sustaining the curation of scholarship in the digital environment. Practical implicationsIRs with open access publishing, expert gallery and digital library features place academic libraries in a central role as partners in digital scholarship. Originality/valueThis case study presents an original approach to incorporating the IR into the curation of digital content while also considering potential uses of knowledge management approaches for data and knowledge sharing in an academic environment.

Abstract:
Periodo: siglo XIII ABSTRACTThe year 2021 has been the eighth centenary of the birth of King Alfonso X, an event that took place in the city of Toledo on November 21, 1221. We are faced with the figure of one of the most important Hispanic medieval kings both for the innovative political ideas that he tried to apply, although he did not succeed, as, above all, because of the great intellectual activity that took place under his patronage then and that has earned him the nickname of Wise as he is known. There are many historians who, from different perspectives (Art, Law, Astronomy, Music, Literature, etc.) have approached his figure, which has resulted in our having a very numerous bibliography and a great thematic variety. Abstract:
This research investigated the ways academic libraries are using social media and adopting participatory principles in their programs and services. Using the Grounded Theory method the research developed an empirically derived model for participatory libraries. The research revealed three core categories representing the participatory library: community, empowerment, and experience. The research provides library professionals, researchers and the library community, with a fresh perspective and holistic picture of the contemporary library. The findings can be used to guide the development of participatory libraries in Australia and internationally.

Abstract:
This study examines the overall service quality at the main library of Aveiro University in Potugal based on library users’ perspectives to investigate which are the essential attributes that library managers should allocate the resource for good service quality and how is the ranking of library as a result of research in terms of perceived service quality. The problems users had encountered when involved in library service are also explored in this study. The Libqual+ program questionnaires were distributed for data gathering in campus area of university in a face-to-face relationship with respondents. A survey of Students, Professors and Staff was used. Several insights gained from this study shown that all users’ desired expectations are not met. Three main dimensions of Libqual+; "Affect of Service", "Information Control", and "Library as Place" were extracted by related attributes and data analyzing. The results reveal that the most problematic items are about physical service attributes. The dimensions were classified as very good for "Affect of Service", good for "Information Control” and bad or weak for "Library as Place". According the users ideas the highest ranking of questions belongs to library workers. Finally, recommendations are presented to library in order to improve the quality of the provided service.

Abstract:
A new dual-campus subject librarian program is being rolled out at the University of Central Florida (UCF) whereby several subject librarians divide their time between two campuses, the legacy main campus in East Orlando and the new Downtown Orlando Campus. As of Fall 2019, four UCF subject librarians regularly travel to the new Downtown Campus to provide library support for academic programs, faculty, and students who recently relocated to the new facility. Dual-campus subject librarians are also maintaining support services for their assigned academic programs that remain at the UCF Main Campus. This article provides information and reflections about how the dual-campus subject librarian model operates and how it impacts staff duties from two perspectives. The first perspective is from the UCF Social Sciences subject librarian, who supports graduate and undergraduate programs in The School of Public Administration and Public Affairs graduate programs at the Downtown Campus, as well as graduate and undergraduate programs in Politics, Security & International Affairs and Criminal Justice at the Main Campus. The second perspective is from the Main Campus Head of the Research and Information Services Department, who supervises the dual-campus subject librarians.

Abstract:
In the busy world of academic research library assessment work, can simple and easy-to-use outcome-based assessment tools contribute in meaningful and actionable ways to library decision-making? This was the question at the center of a project conducted by staff in the Iowa State University (ISU) Library’s Assessment and Planning unit as part of the library’s participation in the ARL Research Library Impact Framework initiative. The ISU project was done in support of the ARL research question, “How do library spaces facilitate innovative research, creative thinking, and problem-solving?” The ISU research project was based on the use of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Project Outcome for Academic Libraries survey tool. In the ISU project, data was collected and analyzed using the Project Outcome spaces survey, once every semester, from the fall of 2018 through the fall of 2021. The ISU project was designed to identify benefits of the Project Outcome survey through the hands-on use of the Project Outcome tool kit and to share those findings. This practice brief also provides information on how to use Project Outcome. A goal of the project was to support and encourage other ARL libraries in their own use of the Project Outcome resources.

Abstract:
As part of ARL’s Research Library Impact Framework initiative, a team at Syracuse University Libraries conducted a study to explore the impact of embedding three “distinct academic learning communities” in Syracuse University’s Bird Library: the Blackstone LaunchPad; the Center for Learning and Student Success; and the Syracuse Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Engagement. Three objectives guided the team: (1) explore how the libraries impact the communities; (2) determine how the communities impact the libraries; and (3) identify methods/metrics that could demonstrate reciprocal impact and be useful to the Association of Research Libraries (ARL). Impact was explored from multiple perspectives, including community directors, community participants, the libraries’ dean, and libraries’ staff. Results point to the value of the library as a central and interdisciplinary academic space for the communities, one that helps break down disciplinary borders by allowing community participants to more easily meet and collaborate with students from other schools and colleges.

Abstract:
Demonstrating the value of a biomedical library can be a daunting and somewhat ineffective task. The current literature base contains many articles attempting to achieve this goal by analyzing the collections through resource usage and citation analysis. However, with competing budgets across university campuses, it has become essential to investigate and develop methods in which libraries can correlate collections and services as it relates to their role as a partner across the scholarly, education, and service missions of our institutions. This practice brief discusses various methods and strategies in which the Annette and Irwin Eskind Family Biomedical Library and Learning Center sought to identify, compile, analyze, and disseminate relevant data to demonstrate its impact or added value to the research enterprise at Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center. This work was done as part of the library’s participation in the ARL Research Library Impact Framework initiative.
