Abstract:
Charles Bell was an internationally renowned teacher of anatomy and surgery and an eloquent advocate of natural theology. His writings on the anatomy of expression had a major influence on art and on the training of painters and artists, and they gave birth to physiological psychology. Bell founded his own anatomy school, took over the well-known Hunterian school in Great Windmill Street, was a clinical teacher at one of the great London hospitals, was the most famous professor appointed to the medical department when the University of London was established, helped to found the Middlesex Hospital Medical School, and, finally, held a prestigious chair of surgery at the University of Edinburgh. His association with the University of London was brief, however, because his role was unclear, the institution was mismanaged, and the environment was acrimonious.

Abstract:
Speech science has a history of over 120 years. In addition to the self-image of the discipline, this book focuses on everything that makes the subject so attractive: With its vital research and teaching subject, speaking and people talking to each other, it is both application-oriented and up-to-date. This explains the continuing high level of interest among students, research partners, and practical professional fields in education, art, media, counseling, therapy, and prevention. With study locations in Halle, Jena and Marburg, Speech Science is represented throughout Germany. As an interdisciplinary research and working subject with links to linguistics, medicine, pedagogy, psychology, politics and sociology, among others, there are also diverse collaborations in research, teaching and practice. This volume offers surprising insights into the diversity of speech science – from its history to the present to an outlook on what will be possible in the future. Susanne Voigt-Zimmermann holds a degree in speech science. After scientific, speech-educational, and clinical-therapeutic activities at the universities of Jena, Heidelberg, and Magdeburg, she has been a professor of speech science at the Department of Speech Science and Phonetics at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg since 2017.

Ayala-Rodríguez, Nelly, and Ever José López-Cantero, eds. Semilleros: contribuciones investigativas desde la psicología a realidades sociales en Colombia. Editorial Universidad Católica de Colombia, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.14718/9789585133884.2021.

Abstract:
This book contains the investigative results of seven investigative training processes developed in the Department of Psychology of the Catholic University of Colombia, which are linked to the Europsis and Enlace research groups, and thus materialize the objectives that underpin the lines of research, such as: educational psychology, legal and criminological psychology, health psychology and addictions. In this way, the phenomena studied, among which are the sense of community, gender violence, sexuality, emotional recognition, cognitive deterioration, quality of life and Covid 19 are of great importance and interest to the discipline in this historical moment that Colombia is going through. The constructed and presented knowledge in this book is the reflection of a high level of commitment and discipline of the research staff, who voluntarily accepted the invitation of the university to strengthen their training processes in the research aspect, simultaneously contributing to the development of psychology as a discipline and profession. Readers will find in the work a production of high academic quality, oriented from various methodological perspectives and study techniques through which a response is given to the research problems addressed. The conclusions of each chapter show the need not only to continue working on the issues raised but also to build connected agendas among the research hubs.

Abstract:
This book presents investigative advances in psychology related to the lines of research of the Department of Psychology of the Catholic University of Colombia, whose central purpose is the generation of new knowledge with social repercussions. In this sense, the studies presented within the framework of the lines of Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Health and Addictions, Psychobiological and Behavioral Processes, Legal Psychology and Criminology, Social, Political and Community Psychology, and Research Methods applied to the behavioral sciences, although oriented from different perspectives and methodologies, they unite in the same purpose: to strengthen their approach towards problems of social relevance without losing their contribution to psychological discipline. As a consequence, this book presents an enriched thematic variety directly related to the lines of research such as credibility of the testimony, adolescent domestic violence, cognitive training in older adults, family functioning and quality of life, emotional reparation in survivors of sexual violence in the middle of the Colombian armed conflict, dissatisfaction with body image, relational therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy in victims of the Colombian armed conflict, the relationship between physical activity and academic performance, and organizational change. The results of the studies can be problematized and vitalized in different application contexts.
