Abstract:
Rivalries are a powerful promotional tool that can help drive identification with a brand, attendance at sports events, and subsequent consumer spending. While rivalries often benefit the participating athletic departments directly, there are other peripheral benefits that institutions can take advantage of. For instance, campus recreation departments can use the rivalry to help boost participation and provide additional psychic income benefits. This case focuses on two NCAA Football Championship Subdivision rivals and the ways in which the branding of their annual football contest, the Battle of the Piney Woods, can be best leveraged by other programs in the university, namely campus recreation. A sample scenario of a relatively new recreational sports employee is provided along with promotional elements and background for the universities and the Battle of the Piney Woods event. The reader is challenged to devise strategies that can best tie the Battle of the Piney Woods rivalry to the promotion of recreational sports offerings. The goal of such an exercise is to have one examine how large inter-institutional rivalries can also benefit other sport organizations that are within the university but are not necessarily just in the athletic department.

Abstract:
The cultural and literary heritage of a nation can be found in their writings. Moreover, the development of art, science and literature can be assessed historically through the use of these writing available in manuscript form. They throw enough light on the times in which they were written. It is a record of the knowledge, aesthetic literary and creative skill of the period in which they were written. Manuscripts are therefore essentially thought to be the most important element in tracing on the human heritage.Since earlier knowledge along with religion came to this part of the world through Central Asia, therefore most rather all such records are available in the prevailing languages of the time like Arabic, Persian, Turkish or Pashto. The University Campus5 at Peshawar is a conglomeration center of knowledge. Emerging with Islamia College in the early part of the last century, it had by now grown into four universities with couple of dozen institutions. The manuscript repositories amongst them are mainly Islamia College (now university) and the University of Peshawar. They contain, to my assessment, some of the rarest collections on socio-scientific knowledge besides religion and ethics. The total number of manuscripts in the Islamia College Library is twelve hundred and seventy7. This rare collection has been donated by Ghulam Jillani and his family soon after the establishment of the college library8. Center Library University of Peshawar also contains some of the rare manuscripts on different subjects9. Maximum number of manuscripts among these has been donated by Ghulam Samdani. The total number of this collection is seven hundred and twelve. Pashto Academy library is another place of manuscripts collection on the campus having more than nine hundred manuscript collection mostly donated by Ghulam Samdani.

Abstract:
Internet connections still use IPv4 as the primary address protocol and it is now facing exhaustion. However, academic institutions specifically in the Philippines should devise steps to address the exhaustion of IPv4. In this paper, this is brought to light as we present the IPv4 to IPv6 campus transition techniques to address the issue. The experiment is carried out in Central Luzon State University and is assessed if the university is able to adopt the IPv6 transition in their campus network. Two IPv6 transition mechanisms were implemented and tested. As a general result, it has been found out, through testbeds, that the dual-stack transition mechanism is more suitable than 6 to 4 tunnel broker. The results have also shown that 6 to 4 tunnel broker was outperformed by dual-stack transition mechanism in all areas and presents better performance. Additionally, results also showed that IPv4 presents slight advantages in terms of network performance than IPv6 with a very small percentage in difference, and this does mean that migration to IPv6 is possible without performance detriments. Furthermore, the results also provide a proof of concept for the university especially in the Philippines to consider IPv6 for future migration within their campus network.

Abstract:
This paper will look at the celebrations of concrete apparent in the Brutalist architecture of the 1970s. It will particularly examine Toomath's Wellington Teachers' Training College (Stage I design 1962-65, built 1966-69; Stage II design 1966-69; built 1972-75), Chris Brooke-White's Central Institute of Technology campus in Heretaunga, Upper Hutt (Stage 1, 1969-72; Stage II, 1972-77), and Ted McCoy's additions to Otago University (namely the Archway Theatres (1972-73) and the Hocken Building (1979-80)). Concrete is understood on these sites as textures as well as spatial articulators. Helmut Einhorn's 1975 consideration of concrete surfaces for the Wellington Urban Motorway, Charles Fearnley's 1975 Where have all the Textures gone? and Banham's 1955 "The New Brutalism," will provide the prime theoretical context.

At Kingsman University (KU), fraternity and sorority life is as central to campus culture as its athletic teams. Included in that culture are alcohol abuse, mistrust of the institution, and failure to act when a situation turns dire. Furthermore, some people suspect that fraternities and sororities perpetuate racism. Following a near-fatal incident of a first-year student by fraternity hazing at a chapter that was already on alert, the KU President called leaders from around campus to spearhead an overdue culture change. Undergraduate students worked alongside upper-level administrators and campus departments to formulate recommendations to eliminate KU’s notorious hazing culture.

Abstract:
This article examines the corporatization of collegiate media in the United States. Gannett Company, Inc.’s purchase of two university publications, the FSView & Florida Flambeau ( FSView) at Florida State University and the Central Florida Future at the University of Central Florida, have raised concerns regarding the autonomy of the campus press. This article first defines the functions and structures of the campus press and how each contribute to the normative goals and democratic potential of collegiate student newspapers. The article goes on to argue that a corporate ownership structure, despite the alluring rhetoric espoused by corporate media, meets the needs of advertisers and shareholders, not the communities the campus press should serve. Gannett’s purchase of the FSView is examined in depth because it provides a revealing case study of the underlying interests that corporations such as Gannett have in collegiate media.

Abstract:
Hyperspectral Images (HSI) classification is a challenging task due to a large number of spatial-spectral bands of images with high inter-similarity, extra variability classes, and complex region relationships, including overlapping and nested regions. Classification becomes a complex problem in remote sensing images like HSIs. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have gained popularity in addressing this challenge by focusing on HSI data classification. However, the performance of 2D-CNN methods heavily relies on spatial information, while 3D-CNN methods offer an alternative approach by considering both spectral and spatial information. Nonetheless, the computational complexity of 3D-CNN methods increases significantly due to the large capacity size and spectral dimensions. These methods also face difficulties in manipulating information from local intrinsic detailed patterns of feature maps and low-rank frequency feature tuning. To overcome these challenges and improve HSI classification performance, we propose an innovative approach called the Attention 3D Central Difference Convolutional Dense Network (3D-CDC Attention DenseNet). Our 3D-CDC method leverages the manipulation of local intrinsic detailed patterns in the spatial-spectral features maps, utilizing pixel-wise concatenation and spatial attention mechanism within a dense strategy to incorporate low-rank frequency features and guide the feature tuning. Experimental results on benchmark datasets such as Pavia University, Houston 2018, and Indian Pines demonstrate the superiority of our method compared to other HSI classification methods, including state-of-the-art techniques. The proposed method achieved 97.93% overall accuracy on the Houston-2018, 99.89% on Pavia University, and 99.38% on the Indian Pines dataset with the 25 × 25 window size.

Abstract:
“Campus Utopias: A Visual Re-reading” describes a multidisciplinary graduate course conducted collaboratively by TU Delft and METU Ankara’s Architecture Departments in 2022. The research course focused on the key urban and architectural features of selected campus projects, examining how the modernist architects engaged in these designs were able to use them as a basis for the experimentation of new educational-residential models for living. This research paper explores the formal aspects of these campuses and their architectural significance. It recognizes the diverse geographies where the modern architectural movement took root and the active role played by political, economic, and cultural agents in shaping these projects. Working with local agents and situating modern architecture within its surrounding infrastructure and landscape helped master architects to integrate local architectural values and new building technologies. The article presents three case studies: Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria, the University of Baghdad in Iraq, and the Central University of Venezuela in Caracas. These campuses were designed and built after World War II, representing the aspirations of newly installed governments. The article highlights the architectural approaches that incorporated environmental considerations and cultural inspirations and the socio-economic considerations in each project. The research methodology involves a comparative analysis of the campuses, focusing on their formal qualities and in-between spaces. The students involved in the graduate research course utilized various media and techniques of representation, including 3D digital drawings, models, collages, and physical reliefs. The work results were presented in the form of an exhibition titled “Campus Utopias” at TU Delft Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment in April 2022. The student projects in this photo essay show the diversity of scale and make visible the similarities and differences in the overall campus design approaches of the three projects. This paper reviews literature on campus crime and security. It reports the findings of a case study of an in-house security force servicing a large postsecondary institution located in central Canada. Limited data on campus crime in Canada and the U.S. indicate that it is neither as frequent nor as serious as media and other reports suggest. Primary data on the demographic characteristics of security officers combined with information on recruitment, training, mobility, and job content point to the existence of occupational segmentation within this sector. The findings also underscore the prevalence of a professional crime control-oriented form of security provision and are consistent with those of recent Canadian and American studies of campus crime and policing. The need for future research on issues concerning illegality and security on university campuses is highlighted and policy recommendations addressing the transition to a more community-oriented approach are outlined.

Findings The paper points to dominant roles played by the state ministries in financing university conservation programs and the absence of a national policy framework and low sustainability proactiveness in a majority of higher educational institutions. It argues that more discretionary power and more policy deliberations are needed for the transformation. Research limitations/implications Universities in China vary distinctively in status, operations and performance. In terms of campus sustainability management, the case of CUFE is highly representative as it shares more common features with universities that develop in a routine manner. Practical implications With the financial support from government agencies, the campus conservation-oriented projects have been conducted and financially supported in hundreds of pilot universities, but failed in diffusing to more universities. This study identifies the barriers and challenges. Social implications An in-depth understanding of the working mechanism in financing university sustainability initiatives will promote a discussion on China’s policymaking process and will provide useful insights regarding its future policy options. Originality/value China has conducted nationwide conservation-oriented campus constriction for almost a decade and many universities increase their investment in campus facilities and their operations; however, there is a lack of understanding of the rationale of the funding models and how they have been implemented.

Abstract:
A university transit service owns and operates a shuttle fleet that serves thousands of students that reside on and around the campus within a fairly compact area as a special form of public transit. Usually, there is a central drop off point in the center of the campus. Each shuttle goes on a tour that covers a certain area where apartment complexes housing the students are located. The main goal of this study is to find a practical scheduling methodology for the university shuttle fleet considering students’ travel behaviors and class times. The 2018–2019 annual ridership data of Texas A&M University (TAMU) shuttle system is used to identify distinct travel patterns in weekday and weekend services. A clustering method is proposed to develop homogenous departure times within the current schedules respectively for on- and off-campus routes by taking the high student loads and graduate/undergraduate behaviors into account. A new scheduling method is developed to update the current shuttle departure times by leaning on a generous/highly frequent system usage. This easy to use method considers the dynamics of daily activities conveniently. Results of the developed new schedules for on-campus and off-campus routes show that the current university shuttle fleet could operate more efficiently during the time when class changes take place. This new methodology could potentially increase the efficiency of the system in relation to total shuttle runs by up to 25%.

Abstract:
In recent years, more and more prominent urban flooding problems on campus drainage system planning and design put forward higher requirements. Sudden rainfall can have multiple negative impacts on campuses, but it is also an excellent opportunity to utilize rainwater resources. At present, the peak flow rate of urban drainage system in China is still mainly calculated by the inference formula method, and the design return period of municipal drainage system is also low, which may lead to campus flooding in case of large rainstorms. In this paper, using the Stormwater Flood Management Model (SWMM) as a platform, the Central China Normal University (CCNU) was selected to simulate the summer stormwater runoff process, and three different combinations of low-impact development (LID) facilities were applied to the campus stormwater runoff control, and the control effects of the different combinations on the flood peak flow abatement were compared. The results show that the selected LID deployment scheme is better than the single facility control effect. Finally, based on the results of the study, a technical solution for rainwater collection and reuse based on sponge campus was proposed to renovate and design the campus landscape of Central China Normal University. The economic, social and environmental benefits are significant and can provide a reference for rainwater collection on other campuses.

Abstract:
The purpose was to analyze gender differences in the graffiti written on restroom walls by Brazilian students. We compared graffiti produced by men and women at secondary schools and on the university campus. We expected that the gender gap would be narrower in the older and more schooled group of undergraduates. Of the total of 1349 graffiti collected in 56 restroom stalls, 37% came from the university and 63% from secondary schools. At secondary schools we found less graffiti in women's than in men's restrooms, but no significant difference on the university campus In both places romantic contents predominated in women's restrooms but in men's restrooms they were virtually absent. A striking finding, which is contrary to previous studies, was the high frequency of sexual graffiti in women's restrooms on campus, comparable to that found in men's restrooms. Sex became a more central theme of both men's and women's graffiti on campus than in secondary schools. On the whole, a greater number of categories distinguished the sexes at the secondary school than on campus (7 vs 2). This supports the hypothesis of a narrower gender gap with increasing education.

Abstract:
Parking has long been recognized as a major land use problem in campus planning. Anyone who drives an automobile appreciates the difficulties of finding a parking space in areas of intense academic, administrative, student residential, and recreational activities. This shortage of parking spaces near activity centers has worsened as automobile ownership and registration on campus have increased. The problem is more pronounced and the solution more critical on large urban campuses located in or at the periphery of the central business district. An approach to solving the chronic and prevalent parking problem in the campus environment is addressed. An institution-based and evaluative model is introduced as a tool to determine how best to use existing land in the competitive and oftentimes policy-driven university campus environment. Practical solutions that will assist in the proper planning and design of campus parking spaces and facilities are also developed. The optimization model design takes into account the major operational and site characteristics, as well as parameters that traffic engineers and planners consider conducive to optimal parking. The model will help traffic engineers, campus planners, and university administrators maximize land on the university campus. It will also answer the question of what principles should be adopted in the proper planning of facilities for the vehicle at rest within the context of a diminishing campus environment in general and inadequate funding for facilities renewal and maintenance in particular.

THE POINT THAT HIGHER EDUCATION IS UNDERGOING DISRUPTIVE CHANGE is made so frequently that it has almost become a cliché. But like many platitudes, the frequency with which it is repeated is a testament to its broad acceptance and central importance in the field of higher education. A glance at the history of this profession reveals the often seismic shifts that have at once shaken our foundations and subsequently revolutionized how we teach, support and develop our students. In short, higher education is in constant flux, and while this change may seem to be occurring at higher rates of speed, change has always been a part of higher education, and professionals have always needed to adapt to keep up.

Abstract Michigan State University became an Age-Friendly University (AFU) in December 2019. The path to campus-wide buy-in started years earlier by AgeAlive, a program established to serve as MSU’s central aging hub and to promote wellbeing throughout life. University approval and awareness of AgeAlive and what it means to be an AFU remains a key goal and crucial to sustainability. Central to strategic planning is ensuring that AgeAlive and MSU missions and values are aligned, visibility remains high, and outcomes are tangible and substantial. This presentation provides concrete examples of initiatives that meet these criteria and are building university support including a program that matches students to isolated seniors at risk for loneliness and multi-university research to help college students caring for older family members succeed as students and caregivers. Recommendations for developing and executing a strategic plan will be described and of interest to others on their own AFU journey.

AbstractThe University Osnabrück and the University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück and regional partners recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a Healthcare Campus. The aim of the Healthcare Campus is to develop innovative concepts for delivering patient care in the Osnabrück region. It brings together academia, networks, enterprises, healthcare providers and local authorities. Financed by the State of Lower Saxony, the project „The Learning Healthcare System in the Region Osnabrück Emsland (ROSE)” is a central activity within the Healthcare Campus. This project makes use of the learning paradigm. Providing feedback is the driving mechanism to achieve progress. Research provides the feedback to the healthcare providers and local authorities, in order to optimise the current practice in urban and rural areas of the region. The feedback mechanism is based on data from practice, which play the central role in turning evidence-based-practice into practice-based-evidence and putting translation at the start, not at the end of the project. Both universities coordinate their activities within the ROSE project to attain the goals of the Healthcare Campus Osnabrück. The model with five measures for the implementation is presented. It builds upon the wealth of existing bachelor and masters programs in healthcare and unites research, PhD programs and translation of scientific results into practice.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper was to perform a comprehensive study of the functional state of male and female teachers of a northern university during the quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic, when they had to switch from on-campus to distance teaching. Materials and Methods. The study involved 56 teachers (36 men and 20 women) from Surgut State Pedagogical University, who were examined before and after the switch to distance teaching. The functional state of the central nervous system (CNS) was evaluated according to the data of simple visual-motor reaction. The state of autonomic regulation was characterized based on the dynamics of heart rate variability at rest and during active orthostatic test. Peripheral systolic and diastolic blood pressure and central systolic aortic pressure were measured. The psychophysiological state was analysed using the Maslach Burnout Inventory and Eysenck’s “Self-assessment of anxiety, frustration, aggressiveness and rigidity”. The quality of life was evaluated using the Short Form (36) Health Survey. Results. During on-campus teaching, female university teachers showed more pronounced impairments of autonomic regulation and functional state of the CNS compared to their male colleagues. In addition, women experienced professional burnout more often, while an increase in central and peripheral blood pressure was less common among them. After the transition from on-campus to distance teaching during the COVID-19 quarantine, functional disorders of autonomic hear rate regulation and haemodynamics were more pronounced in men than in women. Women under the same conditions had greater impairments of the functional state of the CNS, while demonstrating improvements in the psychophysiological state. Thus, the research found that changes in the form of teaching produce different effects on the functional state of male and female university teachers.

Abstract:
Universities internationally have recently increased their campuses to attract a broader coverage of students in a very competitive university education market (e.g. international students). This has seen many universities establish a Central Business District (CBD) office presence via vertical campuses in addition to their traditional campuses. To take advantage of the digital era, a key ingredient in this university space is smaller technology-enhanced teaching spaces in these vertical campuses rather than traditional large lecture theatres. Universities have considered a range of options to access this vertical campus office space, with the attractiveness of universities as major office space tenants and university education assets now being critically assessed as a potential real estate sector for investors; for example, included in a real estate fund. Using an extensive stakeholder survey of Australian universities, pension funds, real estate funds and appraisers, critical issues in the successful operation and management of vertical campus office assets are assessed for these various stakeholders in the vertical campus office asset management process in the digital age. Specific strategic and practical management issues for these vertical campus office assets as a real estate sector in this fourth Industrial Revolution and universities as major office space tenants are highlighted.

Abstract:
Freedom of speech is an essential dimension of academic freedom. Without free speech, a university’s mission, which includes innovative research and high-quality teaching, cannot succeed. However, in recent years, the foundation of free speech on campus has been compromised. There are not only an increasing number of ideas and practices that challenge the liberal conception of free speech (e.g., political correctness, safe space, trigger warnings, verbal purification, and disinviting) but also theoretical justifications for such ideas and practices. This article focuses on the current discussion in the United States, where the debate on academic freedom is the most heated. The situation in the United States is important because it influences academic life in other developed countries. It can be argued that free speech does not exclude building a safe and inclusive campus environment. However, because of its central role in the university’s mission, freedom of speech cannot be traded against other values regardless of their importance.

The University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta Library is one of the private university libraries which has approximately 20 librarians spread across all faculties. Each faculty consists of up to 1 to 2 librarians. The University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta campus consists of 2 campuses, namely the Cirendeu Campus and the Cempaka Putih Campus. The Central Library is located on the Cirendeu Campus. This study aims to analyze the leadership style applied by the head of the library at the Muhammadiyah University in Jakarta or abbreviated as UMJ. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with data collection techniques, interviews, and observations. The observation was done to analyze matters related to research, namely the leadership style applied by the head of the library. Data analysis includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. This study shows that the application of leadership style in the UMJ library adopts a situational leadership style system by measuring it through four aspects, namely informant style, sales style, participatory style, and delegation style. The ideal leadership element is already owned by the head librarian of the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta, it can be seen from the positive stigma that his subordinates put out, thus making the library a library development that can happen quickly. Furthermore, judging from the application of the leadership style of the head of the Muhammadiyah Jakarta university library, it is very suitable to be applied in the Muhammadiyah Jakarta University library because it can adapt to the work environment that occurs in that place.

Abstract:
AbstractTwo of South African literature’s best-known titles from the turn of the twenty-first century are works of campus fiction that rarely get recognized as such. In this article I read J. M. Coetzee’s Disgrace (1999) and Phaswane Mpe’s Welcome to Our Hillbrow (2001) as novels whose figuration of the university is far more central to their treatment of the contradictions and ambiguities that characterize postapartheid South Africa than is generally acknowledged. In the course of narratives that seem largely focused on other things, these texts offer up a distinctly South African but also distinctly postcolonial variety of campus fiction, and a critical engagement with the neoliberal university and the conditions under which upward mobility and intellectual inquiry take shape in the twenty-first-century global south. Coetzee and Mpe suggest capacious and transformative, if also deeply ambivalent, ways of imagining an as-yet unrealized decolonial future for universities.
