Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to theoretically substantiate the concept of a graduate’s satisfaction profile with educational programs, which includes a number of parameters. This concept is proposed to be introduced in connection with monitoring the satisfaction of university graduates with educational programs. The methodology for measuring graduate satisfaction is based on the use of quantitative (questionnaires, the results of which are processed in SPSS) and qualitative (interviewing) methods. Graduates’ satisfaction with the quality of higher education is considered as a subjective assessment of the quality of their education. The proposed and tested methodology can become the basis for the development of a university system for monitoring the satisfaction of university graduates with educational programs and a university quality management system.

Tracer study is an approach that allows college institutions to obtain information about possible deficiencies in the educational process and learning process. It can also be the basis for future improvement planning activities. This tracer study research could see the illustration of two sides, namely the graduates’ side as the service user of the education institution and the stakeholder side as the graduate user. This tracer study aimed at getting an overview of the lecture program that had been obtained by the graduates, as well as the quality of graduates produced by the Department of Management. The target of this tracer study was the alumni of Management Department graduates in 2013 - 2015 and the stakeholders in this case were the service users of Management department graduates. The results of this study indicated that the graduates produced by the Management Department had an average waiting time of less than 12 months (1 year) to obtain a job. The types of jobs graduated from Management Department were mostly in the private sector, there was only one person who decided to become an entrepreneur. Most of the graduates earned 1 million rupiah - 3 million rupiah per month as the first income. Most graduates were satisfied with the aspects of learning gained during their study in Management Departments as well as the response about learning experience. Graduates were quite satisfied with the learning experience during the course in Management Department. The graduates complained about inadequate lecture facilities condition. It was certainly a serious significance to be addressed immediately. Most of the users of the graduates (stakeholders) were satisfied with the ability of management department graduates. It was just the aspect of English language skills that were still considered less. In accordance with English language skills, communication skills were also complained by graduate users (stakeholders). Abstract:
Every university graduate faces a problem of employment. A young specialist without work experience can hardly find a job by his/her specialization, which would allow them not only to use the acquired knowledge but also to get an adequate estimation of their efforts. Today Russian universities adopt the overseas experience in career promotion by helping graduates in their career planning, as today's higher education institutions in Russia are extremely interested in graduate's career development and at the same time in successful functioning of the university in general. The article grounds the necessity to set up Employment and Career Centers at universities, whose organizational and economic characteristics and trends of development can give an opportunity to accumulate and allocate the best practices of graduates' career planning and technical and technological support of interaction with business partners for different categories of graduates. Here a young specialist can find consultations of career experts, help in compiling a competitive CV and assistance in searching for a suitable vacancy. At the same time the Employment and Career Center at the university can carry out an important function of informing university employees about the necessity and importance of graduates' career planning and stimulating graduates' interest in self-organization and professional self-development.

Abstract:
Since its establishment two and half decades ago, the School of Management Sciences at the University of Venda (UNIVEN) has produced hundreds of Bachelor of Commerce (BCOM) graduates for the South African work force. Yet the School has had no formal feedback from its graduates regarding the relevance, usefulness, strengths and weakness of its BCOM programmes. The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of the BCOM (Accounting) programme on job prospects of UNIVEN graduates. A structured questionnaire was sent to a sample of 61 graduates of UNIVEN’s BCOMA programme through the Snowball technique of tracing survey respondents. The questionnaire sought the participating graduates’ opinions on several aspects of their educational experience at Univen including adequacy of the training and employability, among others. The study used the IBM SPSS version 21 to analyse the study data. The key findings of the study suggest that the components of the BCOMA programme that need major improvement to increase the employability of graduates are training in practical skills, using computers in Accounting training, as well as improvement in teaching and delivery methods. The study also found that modules offered in the BCOM programme were relevant to the graduate’s job needs.

Abstract:
Globalization, partly spurred by technological innovation such as artificial intelligence and robotics, continues to disrupt not only economic trajectories and business models, especially in the developed world, but also the knowledge and skill requirements for graduates entering the labor market. A growing corpus of literature on graduates’ employability has identified barriers to employment ranging from skills mismatch to a lack of soft skills. Although the literature on graduate employability is informative and illuminating, the role of university practices in fostering graduate employability in sub-Saharan Africa, and Tanzania in particular, has been less studied. Drawing on the broader employability literature, this article provides a comprehensive analysis of the best university practices in an effort to address the unemployment problems of university graduates in sub-Saharan Africa and Tanzania in particular. Four critical university best practices for fostering graduate employability are of interest—developing effective university—industry partnerships, aligning university education with a country’s development plans, regular university curriculum reviews, and strengthening quality assurance systems. Therefore, this article contributes to the higher education literature on the role of university practices in fostering graduate employability.

Daghbashyan, Zara. "Essays on University Efficiency Analysis and Entrepreneurship among University Graduates." Doctoral thesis, KTH, Samhällsekonomi, 2013. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:kth:diva-109298.

Full text
Abstract:
The thesis consists of five papers: three deal with the efficiency of higher education institutions (HEI) and two with entrepreneurship among university graduates. The efficiency of HEIs is analyzed at three different levels: units of one university, universities of one country and universities of a group of European countries. Using data envelopment analysis (DEA) the first paper compares technical efficiency among university units at the Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm). An interesting result is that there seems to be a complementary relationship between efficiency of resource utilization in teaching and in research. The second paper applies stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) to estimate the cost efficiency of Swedish higher education institutions. According to the estimates, half of the Swedish HEIs have an above average efficiency of 85 percent. The efficiency differences are mainly influenced by the source of funding, HEI size, the number of students per faculty as well as faculty and student compositions. The third paper analyses the cost efficiency of universities among a set of public higher education institutions from six European countries by means of stochastic frontier techniques. The results suggest small variation in the mean economic efficiency of higher education institutions from UK, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Switzerland, implying that the efficiency differences are not explained by country effects. Instead the variations in efficiency are related to organizational differences. The two essays on entrepreneurship among university graduates are based on a unique dataset encompassing individual level data on all employees registered in the Swedish labor market. The first paper explores the differences in entrepreneurial choice of graduates from different universities. The main finding from this paper is that the entrepreneurial choice of graduates from internationally ranked Swedish universities systematically differs from others with the difference varying by the area of education. The second paper on entrepreneurship aims at explaining the high interest in entrepreneurship among arts graduates and finds that the need for self-expression is among the main motivations for their high interest in entrepreneurship.

Mc, Intyre Judith. "Graduates' transitions into university and into employment." Thesis, Brunel University, 2004. http://bura.brunel.ac.uk/handle/2438/5471.

Full text
Abstract:
Graduates' transitions into university, their university preparation and transitions to employment are influenced by their contextual learning and experiences. This thesis focuses on the preparation for and entry into work of the 1999 cohort of graduates at one higher education institution in West London. The research uses two research design methodologies to explore the graduates' ultimate entry into work. The research study uses a quantitative employment destination data set to investigate the employment destinations of the graduates. The research also uses a qualitative approach, focusing on individual biographies using semi-structured interviews for data gathering, to investigate the impact of biographical and contextual variation on the 1999 cohort's preparation for employment. The research study explores the impact of graduates' curricular antecedents on their preparation for employment by investigating the way they pass thorough periods of transition within education and into work. It seeks to understand and explain how these transition points interact with their experiences of higher education and how such interactions better shape their preparation for and transition into employment. The results show that graduates' transitions into university, their university preparation and transitions to employment are influenced by a range of contextual and experiential variables.

Kirby, Roy Lindsay. "Cooperative education and organizational socialization of university graduates." Diss., The University of Arizona, 1990. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/185134.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to assess the effects of cooperative education on the transition to work of graduates in engineering and engineering-related programs at Canadian universities. It was theorized that the cooperative experience would result in a higher level of socialization to the organization than to the profession or to academia. It was expected that this higher level of organizational socialization would manifest itself in increased levels of organizational commitment and career development. The research model was based on a three-period process of Input (pre-university), Throughput (during university), and Output (post-university), each with its own set of variables. The methodology chosen for this research was qualitative rather than quantitative since the variables were complex and multidimensional in nature. An interview protocol was developed and pretested then applied in a procedure involving a sample size of 103 participants: students in their last semester, and employees within 5 years of graduation. Since students self-select into coop or traditional programs, the comparison of coop participant data directly to non-coop was inappropriate; thus non-coop data were used as a point of reference from which to view coop data. Participants were chosen as closely as possible to random from the student population at three Canadian universities, and from Ottawa-area companies. Results indicated that the coop experience does indeed prepare graduates to enter full-time work with fewer transition problems than graduates from non-coop programs; that graduates from both coop and non-coop programs are committed more to their own career development than to organization, profession, or to academia; and that pre-university influences tend to influence socialization from structured work experiences. The coop experience tends to reinforce traits that were already present, including the drive for achievement; this approach meets the needs of those choosing it, just as the traditional approach meets the needs of its students. A related survey of students at a business school where the program is traditional but the methodology is based on practical case studies with strong faculty influence indicated that the subjects were also well prepared to enter work. Future research in this area is warranted; a longitudinal approach would yield more valid results than cross-sectional studies.

The problem statement to be proposed in this article is that student employability suffers as a result of the fact that students do not make use of the available employment skills training, offered by the CUT, which will enable them to present themselves in a professional manner to prospective employers when entering the labour market. Certain suggestions will be offered in this publication of how the CUT could go about creating opportunities for students to enable them to successfully enter the labour market, after the completion of their studies.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the link between background factors to educational attainment, discipline choice, how first job was found and income at that first job. Findings are based on results of a panel study of Ontario high school students. Using human capital theory and comparing and contrasting it with the radical and credentialist arguments, I create a model to further specify the contributing factors to the already well established link between education and jobs. The results produced from the interactive causal model indicate that past research has neglected certain variables while confounding others. Specifically, while the findings are generally consistent with other empirical work, they suggest that (i) education should be treated as a more differentiated variable, (ii) the role of networks in job search behaviour should be included, (iii) gender differences should be considered and, (iv) that non additive models will often provide a better description of the data. Finally, it is also suggested that future work explore the possibility that the relationship between job search behaviour and discipline choice can best be described using a non-recursive causal model.

Abstract:
The study raised and considered the issues of social and psychological adaptation of university graduates to professional activities in the context of growing competition in the labor market and the increasing demands of employers for young professionals who are looking not just for candidates for vacant positions, but for employees who would have the ability to quickly immerse into a professional environment and selfrealization in it. In their conclusions, the authors rely on the empirical data obtained during the questionnaire and online survey, indicating that university graduates when entering the labor market are poorly adapted to the employment process, experience difficulties and discomfort when establishing interpersonal relationships in teams and processing a significant amount of professional information. In the model of the stage-by-stage implementation of education and training of a young specialist proposed by the authors, it is noted that the issues of socio-psychological adaptation are associated with the development of the graduate’s competence and require certain adaptation mechanisms. Given the fact that the adaptation process is dependent on the psychophysical properties of the graduate, the time of its implementation and can be repeated at a new place of work, the authors propose to consider it step by step, in relation to the levels of adaptation (adaptation, partial adaptation, full adaptation) and the criteria for achieving adaptation goals by defining the role of the mentor at each stage of the process. The authors believe that the role of mentoring is related to overcoming the social and psychological adaptation problems of graduates and is a mutually beneficial form of cooperation for the employer, mentor, and young specialist.

Abstract:
Graduate education in the sciences and engineering rarely offers the training and experiences necessary to fully prepare graduates to enter directly into non-academic research and leadership positions. Tulane’s NSF IGERT-funded Interdisciplinary PhD Program in Bioinnovation challenges this paradigm by creating a program in that will cultivate our trainee’s abilities to develop clinically relevant biomedical technologies and devices leading to commercial products. This program couples research with extensive training in entrepreneurship and regulation to develop graduates who can lead the creation of innovative and cost-effective solutions to complex biomedical problems.

Abstract:
Graduate employability has been a topic of interest to governments, training institutions, industry and graduates. In 2009 Botswana Training Authority (BOTA) identified a gap in the market of the lack of training skills among the trainers for the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). To close the gap, BOTA developed the unit standards for the training of trainers programme. The Botswana Open University (BOU) together with other higher education institutions adopted this program in 2016 and offered the training to the in-service as well as prospective trainers. The program is offered for a duration of 6 months. The study employed the qualitative research approach, which consisted of unstructured interviews to explore the perceptions of the employability of CVET graduates and their incorporation of employability skills acquired from the programme. A purposive sample of 20 graduates from five regional campuses were interviewed, premised on the overarching question: To what extent does CVET improve on the employability of its graduates? The findings of the study show that the CVET program is not only one of the popular short programs but its graduates are also employable.
