Abstract:
Vegetable cultivar evaluations are conducted seasonally by research and extension faculty at several locations throughout the state of Florida. Results are summarized and published in a Florida Agricultural Experiment Station Circular, Vegetable Variety Evaluation in Florida and used as a basis for extension recommendations published in Vegetable Production Guide for Florida, an industry-sponsored publication. The selection of vegetables to be evaluated depends on local needs and the evaluator's interest. Until recently, this has provided fairly good coverage of the principle vegetables grown in the state. However, the future of this program as currently structured may be in doubt because of changes in assignments of current faculty, new faculty with assignments and interests that differ from their predecessors, and reduced administrative recognition for cultivar evaluation. It is likely that county extension faculty and professional staff will have a greater role in cultivar evaluation as university faculty input is reduced. Increasing the scope of vegetable cultivar evaluation by university faculty to include adaptation of new crops and specialty vegetables adds a new dimension to traditional trials. Some of these vegetables have not benefitted from selection or breeding so there is opportunity for crop improvement as a further extension of vegetable cultivar evaluation.

Abstract:
Cultivar selection is an important managerial task for commercial farmers. Numerous available options provide marketing opportunities for farmers; however, they can also make cultivar selection time-consuming. For the past 13 years, a team of Penn State Extension educators and university faculty has implemented a new model to evaluate cultivars for key vegetable crops to assist farmers. Our approach started by building relationships within the vegetable industry with farmers, seed company representatives, and farmer-driven organizations who support our program with funding and gift-in-kind donations. We also added rigor to cultivar evaluations by conducting trials of key vegetable crops over 2 years at three locations. The results were used to develop cultivar recommendations, which were disseminated through various face-to-face and distance Extension avenues. The results were also published in refereed journals. The combination of funding, Extension products, and refereed articles led to university support. A drawback to our approach was the difficulty implementing uniform production methods at three experimental sites. The input of a statistical consultant assisted with overcoming this drawback. This model also required the use of strategies common to successful teams. Our methods are described here for those who desire to build a similar program.

Abstract:
University of California Cooperative Extension farm advisors have conducted applied research to quantify processing tomato [Lycopersicum esculentum (L.) Mill] varietal performance, as a coordinated activity, since 1973. Early and midseason maturity varieties are annually evaluated at four to six locations throughout the state. The test varieties are selected in collaboration with seed companies, processors and growers. The growers and seed companies provide financial support for the tests. Most tests are conducted in production tomato fields and are harvested using commercial harvesters. The results are widely disseminated through an annual report to the funding sources, farm advisor research reports, newsletters, production meetings, the California Tomato Grower magazine, and popular media. The information obtained for fruit yield potential, fruit quality and plant horticultural characteristics is used by processors, growers, and seed companies to make variety selection decisions. This regional extension program has proven to be an effective way to generate well-designed replicated information for making intelligent processing tomato cultivar decisions and has been well accepted by the California industry.

Abstract:
The Mississippi State University Extension Undergraduate Apprenticeship Program was implemented in 2017 to give undergraduate juniors and seniors the opportunity to work one-on-one with an Extension mentor and explore careers in agriculture, natural resources, family and consumer sciences, community resource development, or youth development, while participating in research and outreach activities that directly benefit Extension programs and community stakeholders. The program is rooted in the principles of mentoring adult learners in an organizational context. Kolb’s Experiential Learning Model and the DEAL Model for Critical Reflection serve as the conceptual framework, whereby students engage in critical reflection to enhance their integrated research-and-outreach learning experience. An evaluation of the first two student cohorts (n=19) revealed a significant production of scholarship, an increase in discipline-specific knowledge, enhanced critical thinking and problem solving skills, a greater understanding and appreciation for Extension, and a desire to pursue related graduate studies.

Abstract:
Brand extension is considered to be a highly plausible and essential factor for the success of new products. It is an elusive concept that adds value to the offered products and gives a competitive advantage for strategical positioning of new products in the consumers' minds. This study carefully considers the influential factors for the evaluation of brand extension for products targeting young customers. This study analyzed the three important characteristics of consumers by employing a new and proposed nomological network to assess the brand extension and its strategies. First, the brand extension was directly regressed with the need for uniqueness and with innovativeness. After observing the significance of the regressed model, the model was finally analyzed with the intervening variable of need for variety. Six hypotheses were developed, and the proposed theoretical model was assessed through structural equation modeling (SEM) with the help of SmartPLS. Data was collected from 331 university students of southern Punjab, Pakistan. It was found that all three personal characteristics of young consumers (need for uniqueness, innovativeness, and need for variety) are highly significant with the evaluation of brand evaluation. The proposed model explained more than 30% variation in the observed phenomenon. It was observed that the need for variety partially mediates the relationship between the need for uniqueness, innovativeness, and brand extension. As per the results of this study, it was found that the variety of products matters a lot for young customers so, marketers must consider the variation in the products while extending their product line. Theoretically, this study contributed and enhanced the nomological network of brand extension for young consumers. Practically, the study would help the decision-makers understand the preferences of the young generation to devise the new strategies of brand extension.

Abstract:
The evaluation of the quality of teaching and the evaluation of education at universities, methods of evaluating teaching and assessment are one of the key criteria for university evaluation. At present, a project of the ESF project of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen was realized and one of its activities is focused on "Improving Educational Activities and Modern Educational Trends" and on the subsequent implementation and reflection of student education with new teaching methods. The questionary survey was conducted in 2019 with 616 respondents from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, who is the only one public higher education institution in the Pilsen Region. The results analyze in detail the views of the students - taking into account the extension of pedagogical competencies within the framework of the career order. The aim of the project is a comprehensive system of interconnection of the education of academic staff in the area of increasing pedagogical competencies with introduction of new teaching methods into practice and taking into account the extension of pedagogical competencies within the framework of the career order. The results of a survey focused on evaluating the quality of teaching methods confirmed a number of mostly known means of activating teaching, interactive teaching, communication, discussion, the role of the personality of the lecturer and the instructor. These activation approaches need to be continued.

Abstract:
Both growers and vegetable seed companies have had long-term historic relationships with public agriculture extension educators and faculty to conduct unbiased evaluation of vegetable varieties. Reductions in both the number of vegetable seed companies as well as university human resources has led to questions about the viability and appropriateness of publicly-funded variety evaluation programs. Field based extension educators and regional staff have taken more leadership to evaluate varieties, but this often results in fragmented or repetitive trials with limited long term integration of data. Statewide vegetable extension specialists must provide the leadership in coordinating these trials to enhance the rigor of data collection and analysis. Fundamental to enhancing rigor is improving regional coordination and collaboration. The calculation of stability estimates for new and older varieties is most efficiently and quickly achieved through regional collaborations. Initial efforts should improve uniformity of trials by creating common evaluation methods for yield and qualitative evaluations (e.g., color, appearance), including two standard varieties (one local and one regional, long-term standard), standardizing field establishment practices, and selecting experimental designs and plot sizes to improve labor efficiency. These regionally coordinated trials will improve the ability to publish this type of applied research and demonstrate new levels of efficiency for university administrations. In the long term, carefully designed comparisons of genotypic performance among different environments could suggest new directions for university breeding programs as well as cropping systems research.

Abstract:
The Auburn University Shade Tree Evaluation is an ongoing trial of a moderately diverse range of species, and varieties of larger-growing trees. The study was initiated in 1980 with the planting of 250 selections in three replications of three trees each, located at the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station, Piedmont Substation in east-central Alabama. Among the fruit of the investigation have been an evaluation of 10 red maple (Acer rubrum) selections with respect to growth and fall color characteristics; a comparison of growth rate and aesthetic characteristics of 14 oak (Quercus) selections; a comparison of the growth and fireblight (Erwinia amylovora) susceptibility of 10 callery pear (Pyrus calleryana) selections; and a 12-year evaluation of the overall best performing trees. The Shade Tree Evaluation has served as a precedent for six additional landscape tree evaluations in Alabama. It has provided a living laboratory for a wide range of educational audiences including landscape and nursery professionals, county extension agents, urban foresters, Master Gardeners, garden club members, and horticulture students. Knowledge gained from the Shade Tree Evaluation has been shared through presentations at meetings and conferences.

This dissertation presents two distinct parts regarding scientific research. At the beginning performance indicators are identified and strategic environment is set up, using the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) as a methodological tool, with a theoretical foundation in Kaplan and Norton (1997) and, in particular, Figueiredo (2002). Among the new adaptations it is highlighted the implementation of new perspectives: Organizational â strategic politics and management; Pedagogical â teaching, research and extension linking; Social Responsibility â university and society relationship and Scientific Production â scientific and technological publication and the definition of the strategic planning environment in the context of institutional self-assessment within the teaching, research and extension interface, through documental and camping research. In the second part, the university extension activities are assessed as an aim of third degree education, expressing your academic, political and social importance. The research was applied by sampling; teachers and students of third degree education from several professional areas, when the first institutional assessment happened in the school year of 2006, based on the guidelines of SINAES â Third Degree Education Assessment National System at Centro Federal de EducaÃÃo TecnolÃgica do CearÃ. The application of questionnaires to teachers and students (trainees, college program workers, volunteers), semi-structured interviews, research to the database on the extension actions between September of 2008 and February of 2009, among others, were the instruments used for this work, and mainly as a base, the analysis of strategic planning for the extension established in the institutional development plan for the period 2005/2009. Considered the four perspectives defined in the process of identification of strategically pointers, as objective generality of this work, the resulted ones evidence that the teaching and learning classroom clearly has unfamiliarity of the politician-pedagogical planning for the interface education, research and extension, although the efforts of the high administration of the searched institution; not obstante, the positive impact in the translation of the pupil and the effective is distinguished contribution for the social inclusion of the taken care of clientele, by means of the activities of extension; also, perceives the great teaching development in scientific publication and technological, whereas, the learning group little has participation in activities of scientific initiation. In the general context, one concludes that, these social actors - professors and students, have insignificant participation in the elaboration of politics and the strategically planning for the university extension, although, adequately affirmed in the plan of institutional development, as demonstrated in the results of the applied research.

From the interest in understanding the formation of the student, focusing on the future as professionals who must be able to act differently in different situations in your professional and personal with a high social commitment, we understand that the university extension programs can fulfill important role in this regard. The extension programs aimed at, among its objectives, the training for university students taking social commitments and work towards a less unequal society. We choose then as a field of research, an outreach program at a Catholic university (here called the Center), who works for social inclusion of people with disabilities from an interdisciplinary perspective, taking his team teachers and students in different areas of their undergraduate courses. From a brief history of higher education in Brazil, the implementation of continuing education in institutions of higher education and in this context, the debate on the responsibilities of the State and the University for the development of society, emphasize the importance of assessment procedures university extension programs. From our point of view, these processes are essential to advance these programs and play an important role in the formation of student extension. We argue that the evaluation of extension programs is necessary to address the inseparability of the axes of teaching and research-extension, interdisciplinarity, and to the peculiarities of the specific study, the inclusion of people with disabilities. We develop a meta-evaluation of goals: (1) determine what are the strengths of the evaluation process conducted by the extension program put into the study, (2) ascertaining the weaknesses of this process, and (3) to reflect about which aspects of this assessment contributes to the formation of students participating in the program. This is a case study, and the methodological procedures used were document analysis of the program, literature review, and conducting semi-structured interview with the Coordinator of the program. The empirical analysis was constructed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that operating a process to assess the extent is a complex and that gaps and contradictions must be analyzed carefully, may limit the contributions that the extension activities have potential for the training of students who took part.

To achieve this proposition, five interviews were realized with Extension or Communitarian Action directors, from Catholic and Communitarian Universities located in the Province and in the Coastal region of S?o Paulo with tradition in extensionist actions. The investigation of this subject leads us to understand that the evaluation of the social commitment of the Extensionist Action represent an advance when provides the increase of value and the institutionalization of the Extension process through the research and education. The results obtained showed that in majority, the extensionist action assessment is performed in an informal manner and not conceived as a pedagogical instrument that should evaluate the concrete outcomes and effects of these actions that extend to the society. Although, it s noticed an Extension action becoming an academic practice connected to the research and education, meant of specific aspects of identity while Catholic and Communitarian.

This dissertation, through the in-depth evaluation methodology, has the objective of analyzing the Support Program for Restructuring and Expansion Plans of the Federal Universities (REUNI) at the Federal University of MaranhÃo at Campus Pinheiro. The program, which began in 2007 and ends in the year 2012, becomes a topic that is much discussed and evaluated by many researchers, because its general objective of increasing enrollments has promoted academic and structural changes. In order to deepen these changes, the bibliography chosen, the institutional documents and questionnaires based and promoted results beyond what was expected. To complement the research, was also made historical, social and economic survey of the city of Pinheiro. The study showed that it is through the adhesion to REUNI that the Pinheiro Campus resumes academic activities through the provision of regular courses, as well as, it promotes an exchange of cultures due to the number of servers and students coming from other regions. These students now reside in the municipality of Pinheiro, following their approval in public competition or in the case of students, by the National High School Examination. This characteristic of pluriculturalism favors coordinated social and educational actions based on Extension Projects to address local handicaps. The research sought to understand how extension projects are being planned and executed. Finally, it is possible to identify differences in the extensionist proposals developed before REUNI and after REUNI.

The aim of this dissertation is to develop of a appreciative evaluation process of the Center of Juridical Practices of Faculdade de Direito do Recife (NPJ/FDR), so that to bring to the lights “what works well”, so how this occur and the implications of the results achieved during institutional performance on as integrant part of professional formation of the law graduation students of UFPE. It was studied themes such as: Brazilian public administration and the federal public university focused on management form able to provide teaching, research and extension in an inseparability way, with background of inherent practices to the law student formation. The approach e methodology of appreciative inquiry (AI) gave support to application of appreciative evaluation of institutional design of NPJ/FDR, formed by public defense institution, a federal police outpost and a conciliation, mediation and arbitrage chamber. The methodology was developed based on an exploratory, descriptive, explanatory and interventionist research, launching documentary, bibliographic data and case study strategy. The appreciative evaluation intent the data be object of collecting and analysis integrated to the 5-D model: Definition, Discovery, Dream, Design and Destiny, practice according to collaborative research performed by teachers (including coordinators and formers coordinators of NPJ), students of law graduation, administrative technicians and the public defense institution and federal justice members as well. Therefore, it was constructed appreciative interviews, meetings and workshops with the research members. The present work was performed through data analysis collected, data theoretical triangulation and validation by collaborative team. As result, was established among collaborative team an action plan for the NPJ, whose objective is to implant improvements and innovations suggested, as well as to plead support and compromise of center direction whose NPJ is subjected. Appreciative evaluation lead to clear comprehension about what works well in the NPJ/FDR department, by establishment of a train of thought about what occur in the past, realize the relevant facts in its former actions, identifying areas subjected to fit, innovations and improvements, for let may could be have a satisfactory professional formation of the law graduate students of FDR/UFPE, from a provocative proposition performed by NPJ team: NPJ should be promote, in the practical students formation the inseparability among teaching, researching and extension, motivating the development of skills and competencies to apply law acknowledgment. Lastly, the conclusion is the perspective about adopted evaluation, brings to the light how to achieve the consecution of an appropriate participative approach based on people capacity to stand up in a strategy of analysis, which had been meant an learning experience and reference point to self knowledge about what the institution should deliver. To the future is expected the development complementary studies having as a focus other departments of FDR, aiming to promote a kind of positive revolution, large in possibilities to be adopted in organizational of FDR departments.

Abstract:
Several parametric and nonparametric methods have been proposed to deal with stratified C-sample problems where the main interest lies in evaluating the presence of a certain treatment effect, but the strata effects cannot be overlooked. Stratified scenarios can be found in several different fields. In this paper we focus on a particular case study from the field of education, addressing a typical stochastic ordering problem in the presence of stratification. We are interested in assessing how the performance of students from different degree programs at the University of Padova change, in terms of university credits and grades, when compared with their entry test results. To address this problem, we propose an extension of the Non-Parametric Combination (NPC) methodology, a permutation-based technique (see Pesarin and Salmaso, 2010), as a valuable tool to improve the data analytics for monitoring University students’ careers at the School of Engineering of the University of Padova. This new procedure indeed allows us to assess the efficacy of the University of Padova’s entry tests in evaluating and selecting future students.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter does not stress the marketisation of higher education rather focuses upon the way in which this is done; the marketingisation of higher education. I do not deny that widening access to skills that can fuel growth is a logical extension of a consumerist ideology. What follows acknowledges these structural changes and then focuses on how marketing is a consequence and reinforce of such structural change. Indeed there is a substantial literature which addresses it (e.g. Molesworth et al. Having, being and higher education: The marketization of the university and the transformation of the student into consumer. Teaching in Higher Education, 14(3), 277–287, 2009; Brown R, Carasso H, Everything for sale? The marketisation of UK higher education. Routledge, London, 2013). Nor does it support that marketingation has brought no or only limited contributions to higher education. The expansion of the privileges of higher education to the many from the few, the greater governance and transparency of the process and practices of higher education institutions in their compact with society and a clearer ways to evaluate these activities have, to varying degrees, enhanced higher education. These interventions have opened the market for world class universities (WCUs) allowing them global as well as local reach. Yet it is strange that these improvements are consequences of market interventions by Governments, by publishers in terms of league tables, and by employers in terms of preferred (mythical?) skill sets and not for educative purposes. The emergent practices encouraged by these interventions increase the influence of marketing and facilitate a metamorphosis of institutions from educational entities to market responsive service providers whose intent focuses on impact and enhanced return on capital. This leads WCUs into the endless and Sisyphusan striving, often devoid of any ultimate worthy end but ends which are an inevitable consequence of managing rapidly increasing competition and shifting demands effectively rather than educative priorities. The chapter describes and discusses the consequences.

Abstract:
This paper maintains that the use of multimedia content in Web-based instruction - facilitated by the proliferation and standardization of learning management systems (LMS) - calls for the extension of traditional multimedia design and evaluation guidelines to the Web. The compliance with these guidelines needs to be thoroughly evaluated by any institution using (or planning to use) Web-based learning management systems. In addition to providing criteria and examples for the evaluation of these systems, the paper discusses survey questions that can be used for university-wide assessments of the design effectiveness of technologies that support learning. As an example, the proposed evaluation instrument is applied to a learning management system developed at a large university in the United States. While the assessment refers to one system, the model, the instructional and design evaluation criteria, and the questionnaire are built for use in any organization conducting a formative and summative evaluation or a selection of learning technologies.

Abstract:
Public hospitals should be designed to clover as wider inclusivity levels as possible forproviding access for all. Unfortunately, and for a variety of reasons, a quality service is not always provided. When evaluation of the service quality in healthcare organizations is carried out, it is mostly conducted in terms of medical service quality, whilst the physical layout, functionality and facilitating devices are not given as much scrutiny. Post Occupation Evaluation (POE) is notably an efficient process for checking the satisfaction of users after the building has been in-used for a certain period of times. However, hospital is generally a type of building and service that need to support users with a variety of physical capabilities thus, a conventional POE may not cover all requirements of users, so this research has employed the UD concepts as a basis to combined with POE for evaluating service performance of a hospital of the case study, Naresuan University hospital, THAILAND. Even though the POE delivered a good design suggestion that is beneficial to users with a wide range of physical ability but that may not guarantee the new design will be agreed by all stakeholders and implemented through success. As a matter of fact, to success an implementing of a good design does not depend solely on a designer, specifically for this case study, a universal design to a hospital. This research found that to make UD perfectly effects in a hospital (in Thailand context) may require more supportive factors beyond just pointing out problems related to physical conditions of the design and suggest a design solution. As in the context of Thailand, this research identified 4 factors contributing to the success of UD which the designer should be accountable for (1) public understanding of the basic concepts of UD (2) all the related background such as culture, tradition and economic etc. that contributed the attitudes of all stakeholders (of the hospital) towards people with physical impairments (3) the rights, laws, regulations and policies for people with disabilities in the context of the country and (4) the participation of all types of users. And in doing so, this research added an extensive evaluation to the general POE to cover as more factors as possible to those involved with the design implementation. Therefore, an extensive evaluation process so called “Comprehensive Post-Occupancy Evaluation C-POE” has been created and employed in this study for offering more comprehensive solution that cover all possibilities cause of problems, the evaluation processes are as follows; (1) evaluating physical features and users’ behavior (the experimental access audit), (2) examining administrative policy, HA and UD principles and (3) interviewing attitude of executives about UD.

This chapter presents the results of a program evaluation conducted to assess the effectiveness of an online doctoral program in educational leadership at a Research One University from the perspective of its students. Feedback was sought from over 80 currently enrolled students. The study focused on three aspects of the program, namely faculty social and cognitive presence. Recent changes to the program that address these areas include the creation of a thematic group model that clusters students based on academic interests over the last 2 years of the program, extensive revisions to coursework, the adoption of a problem-based dissertation model, and the use of social media and an online community portal to promote student engagement. The results indicate that although students had encountered positive experiences in all three areas, online doctoral students continue to need focused individual mentoring in order to experience success.

Abstract:
Spoilage from fresh produces is a worldwide concern that accompanies the global increase in food demand. Adverse human health and environmental effects of commercial pesticides is a major public concern. Botrytis cinerea is one of the top ten pathogens that affect fresh produce including strawberries’ shelf-life around the world. Botrytis cinerea can progress easily from infected fruits to healthy ones even at low storage temperatures, which can lead to spoilage of entire lots in few weeks. Strawberries are widely consumed raw berries, which are famous in their processed forms such as jam and juices. The delicate fruit has a very short postharvest life. It is susceptible to mechanical injuries, fast dehydration and fungal infection. Prosopis juliflora is an invasive tree in many countries including Qatar. In this report, the Prosopis juliflora water soluble leaves ethanolic (PJ-WS-LE) novel extraction method will be described with an evaluation of its effectiveness as antifungal agent and possible coating material for shelf-life extension. PJ-WS-LE extract showed total inhibition of Botrytis cinerea growth with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 1mg/ml. Exposure to the extract affected badly the structure of the hyphal fungi. The extract extended also strawberries’ shelf-life by 2.32X. PJ-WS-LE extract will be chemically described and its effectiveness in the extension of other fresh produces’ shelf-life will be evaluated.

Abstract:
Abstract An advanced integrated humidification gas turbine process based on an Evaporative Gas Turbine cycle (EvGT), is being built at Lund University in Sweden. The pilot plant is based upon a new 600 kW gas turbine engine. The building of the complete cycle is done in steps, the first step is to run and record measurements from the simple open gas turbine cycle. The next step is to add a compact heat exchanger, a recuperator, to the process and repeat the measurements. This enables an evaluation of the performance of the recuperator in the gas turbine cycle. The result of this comparison is that the efficiency increase is lower than predicted in an earlier stage due to large heat losses of the inner cone extension of the combustion chamber and also because a large amount of compressed air is being used as dilution air just before the expansion take place in the expander.

Abstract:
Private Function Evaluation (PFE) is the problem of evaluating one party’s private data using a private function owned by another party. Several techniques were presented to tackle PFE by running universal circuits in secure multi-party computation and more recently by hiding the circuit’s topology and the gate’s functionalities. These solutions however, are not efficient enough for practical use; hence there remains a need for more efficient techniques. This work looks at utilizing the Intel Software Guard Extensions platform (SGX) to provide a more practical solution for PFE while the privacy of the data and the function are both kept protected. Our solution carefully avoids the pitfalls of side channel attacks on SGX. We present solutions for two different scenarios: the first is with the function’s owner having SGX enabled and the other is with a third party (other than data owner and function owner) having SGX. Our results show a clear expected advantage in term of time consumption for the first case over the second. Investigating the slowdown in the second case lead to the garbling time, which constitutes more than 60% of the consumed time. Both solutions clearly outperform Fairplay PF in our tests.

Abstract:
This research explores and provides insights on students’ psyche of “self” as characterized by their self-evaluations of their systemic and structural interactions with the online teaching-learning platforms that serves as their virtual classroom since the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic. Having such insights is of significance towards understanding the functional interactivenesses of virtual platforms that serve as online digitized classrooms used for teaching and learning in tertiary academic institutions, and which usage has gained global acceptance since the advent of COVID-19 pandemic. This has resulted in a systemic and structural shift towards virtual education among tertiary institutions, with the requisite restructuring of face-to-face teaching-learning mechanisms into new online delivery systems. Considering the fact that such new online systems, which are digitized educational instruction media, are mostly designed by third parties who are not the direct users, there is a need to provide users, namely teachers and students, the space to share the psyche of their “selves” which could be used to develop a sense of their self-evaluative perspectives of the effectiveness of the current approaches to such instructional design, in terms of the quality and effectiveness of their interactivenesses. As it is posited in the extant literature, self-evaluation is crucial to mental and social well-being due to the influences it exerts on a person’s aspirations, personal goals and interaction with others. Thus, self-evaluation, provides personal insights on the beliefs and evaluations individuals hold about themselves, helping to determine who they are, their capabilities, and future developments. These insights are manifestation of the psyche of “self”, deemed as powerful inner influences that provide individuals internal guiding mechanisms that help steer and nurture them through the dynamics of life, governing their behavior in the process, and defining the character of their individual self-concept and self-esteem, and by extension their self-image and self-perception. With self-concept manifesting individual beliefs and knowledge about personal attributes and qualities, it represents a cognitive schema that organizes abstract and concrete views about the “self”, and controls the processing of self-relevant information. The extraction of such an information, especially from students perspectives, is deemed important to enable the systemic and structural design of quality virtual platforms used as online classrooms and quality interactive teaching-learning activity. In this study, therefore, data was collected from six hundred and eighty-seven graduate students in a Ghanaian university, using a structured questionnaire that enabled the students to process self-relevant information associated with the quality of their systemic and structural interaction with online teaching-learning platform used in teaching them throughout the semester. Guided by Bedny and Karwowski's well-established knowledge that activities of individuals are realized by goal-directed actions, informed either by mental or motor conscious processes, as objects of the cognitive psychology of skills and performances, systemic analysis is conducted and the learning from the students self-evaluation determined. The findings will provide additional insight in the design of virtual platforms serving as online classrooms for teaching-learning.

Abstract:
Quality of life is an essential metric for evaluating the well-being of students. This work investigates the viability of a model to predict a WHOQoL-Bref answer based on other answers and the overall domain and average scores. For that, we use data from an extensive pooling done with undergraduate students in Brazil (UNICAMP), gathered between 2017 and 2018. We also discuss model types and hyperparameter effects on model evaluation metrics. Finally, we conclude that it is possible to create a model to predict the esteem question - which is the most correlated with the average domain score with the data sample available.

Abstract:
This presentation and associated paper provides an overview of the research and irradiation capabilities of the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) located at the U.S. Department of Energy Idaho National Laboratory (INL). The ATR which has been designated by DOE as a National Scientific User Facility (NSUF) is operated by Battelle Energy Alliance, LLC. This paper will describe the ATR and discuss the research opportunities for university (faculty and students) and industry researchers to use this unique facility for nuclear fuels and materials experiments in support of advanced reactor development and life extension issues for currently operating nuclear reactors. The ATR is a pressurized, light-water moderated and cooled, beryllium-reflected nuclear research reactor with a maximum operating power of 250 MWth. The unique serpentine configuration (Fig. 1) of the fuel elements creates five main reactor power lobes (regions) and nine flux traps. In addition to these nine flux traps there are 68 additional irradiation positions in the reactor core reflector tank. There are also 34 low-flux irradiation positions in the irradiation tanks outside the core reflector tank. The ATR is designed to provide a test environment for the evaluation of the effects of intense radiation (neutron and gamma). Due to the unique serpentine core design each of the five lobes can be operated at different powers and controlled independently. Options exist for the individual test trains and assemblies to be either cooled by the ATR coolant (i.e., exposed to ATR coolant flow rates, pressures, temperatures, and neutron flux) or to be installed in their own independent test loops where such parameters as temperature, pressure, flow rate, neutron flux, and chemistry can be controlled per experimenter specifications. The full-power maximum thermal neutron flux is ∼1.0 x1015 n/cm2-sec with a maximum fast flux of ∼5.0 x1014 n/cm2-sec. The Advanced Test Reactor, now a National Scientific User Facility, is a versatile tool in which a variety of nuclear reactor, nuclear physics, reactor fuel, and structural material irradiation experiments can be conducted. The cumulative effects of years of irradiation in a normal power reactor can be duplicated in a few weeks or months in the ATR due to its unique design, power density, and operating flexibility.

Abstract:
Background: Experiential learning is the backbone of many healthcare professional education programs, and the quality of experiential learning is dependent on the skills, experiences, and proficiency of the clinical preceptors who largely contribute to this experience. Preceptors should ideally possess both clinical practice and teaching skills; however, preceptors often do not possess formal training as educators. This research was conducted at Qatar University with the aims of identifying preceptors’ educational needs and developing the skills by designing an educational professional development program called: “The Practice Educators’ Academy”. Methods: A mixed-methods triangulation study design was applied to identify preceptors’ educational needs quantitatively through a validated survey sent to preceptors (n=325), and qualitatively by conducting 11 focus groups with preceptors (n=20), students (n=42), sand clinical faculty members (n=7). Quantitative and Qualitative data in addition to an extensive literature review were used in designing the academy by an inter-professional healthcare and educational team. Results: Principles of learning theories, planning for experiential learning, teaching strategies, students’ assessment and feedback, and communication skills for effective preceptorship and conflict resolution were the key domains expressed as preceptors’ educational needs. A five-module program syllabus was designed to meet these needs while benchmarking it with international preceptors’ educational development programs. The designed syllabus was critically examined and validated by national and international health professional education scholars. Conclusion: “The Practice Educators’ Academy” is the first intervention nationally and regionally that aims at improving preceptors’ teaching skills required to prepare competent health profession graduates. This will advance healthcare outcomes, meet the healthcare needs of Qatari society, and ultimately contribute to achieving Qatar National Vision 2030. Future studies should focus on evaluating the effectiveness of the program in improving preceptors’ knowledge and skills, and enhancing students’ satisfaction before full implementation at a national level.

Abstract:
"The effects of task-induced involvement load, evaluation and need in particular, in extensive reading on a change of the lexical relations that EFL learners perceive were investigated. Fifty-two Japanese university students were assigned to one of three groups. All groups were given the same reading material (an English passage of 319 words including 12 target words) but with different tasks. MCQ group answered multiple-choice questions about the contents of the passage. MCQ+FB group answered fill-in-the-blank questions in the passage as well as the MCQ. MCQ+Com group did a composition task using the target words as well as the MCQ. In addition, all participants judged the degree of relationship between target words three times, a week before the task, immediately after the task, and a month after the task. The mean of relationship score was calculated for each participant each time, and was used as a dependent variable that indicates the degree of deepening of the lexical network. Participants also answered questions asking about their intrinsic motivation for the task. The results showed, contrary to our hypothesis, that evaluation manipulated by the tasks nor need compared by the degree of participant’s intrinsic motivation did not affect the dependent variable. Next, we analyzed the data by using AMISESCAL (Asymmetric von Mises Scaling), a statistical model that visualizes asymmetric relations among elements on a two-dimensional map, and found that the relations among target words largely depend on the main target word (keyword of the passage). Although the present findings were generally negative in terms of the Involvement Load Hypothesis (Laufer & Hulstijn, 2001), it was suggested that carefully choosing appropriate reading material with target words is important for the future studies."
