Abstract:
The monograph examines the practice of monitoring the sustainability of enterprises that are characterized by a high duration of the production (technological) cycle of manufacturing products. Such enterprises form such industries as ship and aircraft construction, heavy engineering, and radio electronics. Based on the identification of the features of economic behavior associated with the duration of the production cycle, the authors prove that monitoring and evaluation of the sustainability of such enterprises should be carried out using special methods and algorithms based on the use of the concept of business modeling. The monograph is based on the materials of shipbuilding as the most typical industry, which is formed by enterprises with a long production cycle. It can be useful for specialists in the evaluation of companies, accounting employees, managers of organizations, employees of scientific and consulting firms, students of business schools, teachers, graduate students and university students studying in the areas of training "Management" and "Economics", as well as in engineering and technology areas, and all students of the disciplines of economic, organizational and management cycles.

Abstract:
The construction industry is an indicator of economic development: in good times both individuals and companies invest to increase or improve their houses and facilities. The halted construction is an indication of economic difficulties. Hence the importance of protecting infrastructure investments through diagnostic, recovery and construction rehabilitation procedures. IX National Congress ALCONPAT Mexico 2020 addressed the thematic axes: Materials and nanomaterials, Durability and sustainability, Preservation of built heritage, Preservation, maintenance and rehabilitation, Semi and non-destructive tests, Corrosion in concrete structures, Climate Change. Four Plenary Conferences were presented, given by renowned researchers from Spain, Colombia, Mexico and Argentina. Nine Master Conferences were also presented, given by Researchers from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, Veracruzana University, CNIC of Havana, Cuba and the Autonomous University of Campeche. 61 papers were received, divided into: 35 oral presentations 26 poster presentations. The participating institutions were: Universidad Autónoma de Campeche, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Universidad Veracruzana, Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo, Tecnológico Nacional de México (Instituto Tecnológico de Chetumal), Universidad Autónoma de Chiapas, Cinvestav Unidad Mérida, Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán , Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco, CIIDIR IPN Campus Oaxaca, Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas de Cuba, Consultor Independiente de Ecuador, Centro Internacional de Matemáticas Numéricas e Ingeniería (España), Universidad Nacional del Sur ( Argentina). Effort and enthusiasm of the participants to carry out the event in virtual mode, due to the existing adverse sanitary conditions, stands out. It is one more indication of the strength of the ALCONPAT community in maintaining the continuity of one of its activities to exchange knowledge and experiences for the improvement of practices aimed at prolonging the durability of the infrastructure.

Abstract:
This book gathers 10 articles jointly written by students and alumni from the Fluminense Federal University (UFF)’s Production Engineering course, located in the Rio das Ostras Campus, in Rio de Janeiro, and by professors from UFF, from Rio de Janeiro State University, Rio de Janeiro State Institute, Northern Fluminense University, Estácio de Sá University and Cândido Mendes University. The publication is a Material, Maintenance and Environmental Engineering Lab (L3MA) initiative. By offering it to the public, the objective is to spread the scientific research that we are promoting and to encourage ou students and former students to enter the academic and scientific environment, as well as its propagation. Within this book, we compile articles of different subjects in the field of engineering, particularly Production Engineering. Technology and science are present in almost every aspect of life in the contemporary world and the present collection of articles portrays part of this reality. The subjects discussed in this book include active methodologies for engineering education, waste reduction, pipelines’ integrity evaluation, analysis of the chemical process industry, management of solid waste, mathematical model to aid public transport scripting process, variability in coffee packaging process and viability of incorporating ash residues from sugarcane bagasse into a soil-cement mixture.

Abstract:
New plant breeding techniques such as CRISPR/Cas have the potential to improve sustainability in agriculture. Genome editing techniques can increase yields while reducing the use of pesticides. Researchers around the world are working on improving the nutritional value of plants. However, whether the new technologies will be used in Europe is uncertain at present. Should genome editing be regulated like the ‘old’ genetic engineering techniques used on plants? What might a responsible interpretation of the precautionary principle look like? The political discussion on the evaluation of new plant breeding technologies is in full swing. The contributions in this anthology present the legal, social and ethical aspects of the topic that were discussed at a summer school of the Institute of Technology-Theology-Natural Sciences (TTN) at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. With contributions from Stephan Schleissing; Sebastian Pfeilmeier; Christian Dürnberger; Jarst van Belle; Jan Schaart; Robert van Loo; Katharina Unkel; Thorben Sprink; Aurélie Jouanin; Marinus J.M.
