Op vrijdag 24 mei jongstleden sprak Staf Hellemans (1953) zijn peroratie uit in Tilburg op de Tilburg School of Catholic Theology. Hij was na 23 jaar hoogleraarschap godsdienstsociologie uitgediend. Zijn eerste benoeming was in 1996 aan de Katholieke Theologische Universiteit te Utrecht (KTU). Toen die KTU in 2007 fuseerde met de Theologische faculteit van Tilburg tot de Tilburg School of Catholic Theology (een door het Vaticaan en de Nederlandse bisschoppenconferentie erkende instelling, een ‘roomse’ faculteit dus) bleef hij als hoogleraar werkzaam bij de gefuseerde faculteit. Met zijn peroratie getiteld De grote transformatie van religie en van de katholieke kerk nam hij formeel afscheid van ‘Tilburg’

In 2009 startte de redactie met het initiatief om een studentenaward uit te loven. Masterstudenten werden uitgedaagd om op basis van hun afstudeerscriptie een voor het MAB geschikt artikel te schrijven. Hieraan was een geldprijs verbonden van € 2000 voor de winnaar en € 500 voor elk gepubliceerd artikel. Ten minste vijf bijdragen dienden te worden geplaatst alvorens de award zou worden toegekend. De redactie ontving in 2009 slechts drie artikelen, waarvan er twee zijn geplaatst. In 2010 ontving de redactie opnieuw drie bijdragen, die alle zijn geplaatst. Na rijp beraad heeft de redactie besloten om de prijs toe te kennen aan Peter Bevers (cum laude afgestudeerd aan de Universiteit van Tilburg). De titel van zijn bijdrage is ‘De gevolgen van IFRS voor de cost of equity capital: Een studie voor Nederland’. De redactie is van mening dat het een goed geschreven artikel is over een actueel onderwerp, dat relevant is voor de doelgroep van het MAB. Ook is van belang dat het artikel reeds bij het indienen van een zodanige kwaliteit was dat er weinig aanpassingen noodzakelijk waren om tot plaatsing te kunnen overgaan. In 2001 hield Johan J. Graafland zijn oratie Maatschappelijk ondernemen: analyse, verantwoording en fundering. Hiermee aanvaardde hij het ambt van bijzonder hoogleraar Economie, Onderneming en Ethiek aan de Universiteit van Tilburg. Graag wil ik Johan Graafland van harte feliciteren met zijn benoeming. Ik ervaar het toch steeds weer als een bijzondere zegen als christenen zo’n positie mogen bezetten. Ik wens hem veel vruchten toe op zijn arbeid. Op de nieuwjaarsconferentie 2002 van de Vereniging voor Reformatorische Wijsbegeerte heeft Graafland een lezing gegeven waarin hij enkele momenten uit zijn oratie toelichtte. Op die conferentie mocht ik als co-referent optreden. De week voorafgaande aan de conferentie was ik voor een zakenreis in Taiwan. Ik kwam vrijdagsavonds weer in Nederland terug. Door een ongelukkige samenloop van omstandigheden kreeg ik ook toen pas de tekst van de oratie van Graafland in handen. De tijd was voor mij te kort — en de onvermijdelijke jet-lag werkt dan ook niet mee — om de oratie goed te bestuderen en op vruchtbare wijze te kunnen reageren. Ik had geen andere mogelijkheid dan een ‘eigen’ verhaal te houden (een verkorte versie van een artikel dat ik zojuist voor Beweging had geschreven). Graag wil ik nu van de gelegenheid gebruik maken om inhoudelijk op de oratie van Graafland in te gaan.

Abstract This study provides the outline of the Research Project ‘Parables and the Partings of the Ways’, a comparative reading of Rabbinic and synoptic parables (Utrecht and Tilburg Universities, 2014‐2019). It delineates the status quaestionis of comparative parable research, focusses on issues of form and rhetoric of parables and argues a multi-faceted methodology to study parables as religious media or ‘sensational forms’ in several contexts of teaching Torah. The development of the genre may also attest to the growth and separation of Christianity and Rabbinic Judaism.

Sinds 2016 ben ik als onderzoeker betrokken bij het onderzoeksnetwerk ‘Samen werken, samen leren’, samen met Henriëtte Sandvoort (LFB), Alice Schippers (DSiN), Geert Van Hove (UGent, VU Amsterdam) en Petri Embregts, Elsbeth Taminiau en Kim van den Bogaard van Tranzo, Universiteit Tilburg. Vanuit dit project ontwikkelen Henriëtte Sandvoort (LFB) en ikzelf training, coaching en intervisie – de zogenaamde Cabriotraining – voor de verschillende participatieve onderzoeksprojecten binnen het ZonMw-programma Gewoon Bijzonder, Nationaal Programma Gehandicapten (NPG).
