Agostino Sotgia (Roma, 1990) è dottorando in archeologia preistorica presso la “Sapienza – Università di Roma” e la “RUG – University of Groningen”. Si occupa prevalentemente di Landscape Archaeology con particolare attenzione alla ricostruzione dei paesaggi agro-pastorali antichi in Etruria Meridionale a cavallo del I millennio a.C. Precedentemente si è interessato alla cultura materiale con una serie di studi sulle fornaci e le aree produttive per il vasellame ceramico in Italia peninsulare tra Età del bronzo e Età arcaica. All’attività di ricerca ha affiancato anche quella di sorveglianza archeologica nei cantieri per la creazione dell’infrastrutture della fibra ottica e del Gas. Collabora, inoltre, come disegnatore di reperti archeologici presso numerosi gruppi di ricerca e singoli ricercatori.

Abstract:
La tesi di dottorato propone una ricerca interdisciplinare su documenti figurativi ed epigrafici prodotti a Roma (e nel territorio adiacente), durante il periodo della cosiddetta “Riforma Gregoriana” (metà secolo XI - metà del secolo XII). Si tratta di un lavoro che è insieme di storia dell’arte figurativa, di storia delle ideologie e delle culture (e perciò di autori e testi), nonché di paleografia epigrafica. La ricerca è stata organizzata in tre parti. La prima è un’introduzione alla storia e al contesto sociale di Roma nonché all’organizzazione ecclesiastica durante la Riforma gregoriana. L’esigenza di un rinnovamento interno alla Chiesa, volto all’emancipazione dal potere imperiale, comportò un diverso atteggiamento nei confronti delle immagini rispetto alla tradizione. In questa sede sono stati esaminati gli scritti di Bruno di Segni (Sententiae). Essi hanno svelato la presenza di una “teoria artistica riformata”, nonché elementi fondamentali per la comprensione della simbologia connessa all’edificio ecclesiastico, alle immagini e alle scritture. Lo status del testo scritto si è rivelato, infatti, significante anche dal punto di vista “iconico” poiché la scrittura aveva un valore autenticante, oltre ad essere uno strumento mnemonico e liturgico. Nella seconda parte della ricerca è stato proposto un inedito esame delle “scritture esposte” di Roma (secc. XI-XII). In questa sezione sono state esaminate le iscrizioni d’apparato librarie (nelle Bibbie Atlantiche e nei rotoli di Exultet), le epigrafi su supporto lapideo (lastre di dedica, di consacrazione, etc.) e le iscrizioni presenti nei manufatti artistici monumentali (cicli pittorici e mosaici). Il lavoro ha messo in luce le diverse tipologie scrittorie presenti nella Roma gregoriana, in gran parte improntate alla capitale d’imitazione classica e influenzate da modelli librari. Il confronto tra la capitale tipizzata delle Bibbie Atlantiche e le epigrafi lapidee dell’età di Gregorio VII ha dimostrato l’intervento della committenza pontificia nella formazione di un modello grafico da esporre al pubblico, quale “manifesto” della Riforma. Inoltre, le stringenti relazioni formali tra le scritture librarie e le iscrizioni degli apparati figurativi hanno evidenziato gli scambi “culturali” tra gli esecutori e i committenti dei cicli dipinti (o a mosaico) e gli scriptoria monastici, in particolare quello di Montecassino. Ad esempio, sono emerse le connessioni tra le scritture dei cicli pittorici della chiesa inferiore di S. Clemente, di S. Anastasio a Castel S. Elia e dell’Immacolata di Ceri, consentendo di precisarne la cronologia. Tali scambi hanno inoltre rivelato che la concezione e l’organizzazione del registro visivo erano improntate sui principi della composizione “retorica”, che guidava le pratiche di lettura, la scrittura dei codici e dei rotoli liturgici. La terza parte propone due casi esemplari del metodo interdisciplinare adottato: i mosaici absidali di S. Clemente e di S. Maria in Trastevere. Dal mosaico di S. Clemente è emersa la particolare costruzione “retorica” dell’iconografia, frutto di una stretta connessione tra il testo delle iscrizioni, la loro realizzazione grafica, e le immagini. La complessità del programma figurativo ha rivelato due diversi orientamenti di lettura, uno rivolto ai canonici riformati, l’altro alla congregazione dei fedeli. Il rapporto tra testi e immagini, improntato sulle pratiche liturgiche e cultuali, fu, infatti, funzionale alla selezione del pubblico. L’esame del mosaico di S. Maria in Trastevere ha, d’altro canto, evidenziato il mutamento della strategia propagandistica della Chiesa. Il messaggio trionfale del mosaico, espresso dal tema simbolico dello sposalizio di Maria desunto dal Cantico dei Cantici, mira alla celebrazione del trionfo ecclesiastico e di Innocenzo II nella qualità di Vicarius Christi. L’analisi del mosaico ha fatto emergere numerosi elementi di novità connessi, ad esempio, all’uso simbolico del colore e delle tipologie grafiche, nonché alla loro interazione in chiave iconologica. La ricerca è stata completata da un censimento delle epigrafi romane prodotte tra i secoli XI e XII, dove sono state raccolte le inedite informazioni che hanno costituito la base del lavoro.

Nel corso degli anni gli istituti, i dipartimenti, i musei e le biblioteche dell’Università hanno ottenuto fondi archivistici di persone fisiche, di persone giuridiche, enti ed istituti, sia attraverso donazioni che attraverso piani di acquisizione; della maggior parte di questa mole di documentazione non si conosce né la natura né la consistenza, non essendo stata oggetto di studio. Con questo lavoro ci si propone di effettuare un censimento del patrimonio archivistico conservato presso l’Università, allo scopo di creare uno strumento che possa essere una base per ulteriori sviluppi di studio e di ricerca.

Il lavoro è articolato in tre parti, ha lo scopo di valutare la formazione al lavoro definita come: la formazione orientata a completare, integrare e avviare processi di acquisizione di competenze e di conoscenze professionalizzanti all’interno e alla fine del percorso universitario. Questo è il tema della presente trattazione. Nella prima parte, costituita dal primo e dal secondo capitolo, si è preso in considerazione la convergenza tra due sistemi formativi, quello universitario e quello professionale, alla luce della normativa vigente. Nella seconda parte, costituita dal terzo capitolo, si è messo a punto il disegno della ricerca che ha esplorato gli elementi necessari per la costruzione dello strumento di rilevazione, le relazioni tra le diverse aree d’indagine e una prima descrizione del campione. Nella terza e ultima parte, composta dal quarto capitolo, si è tracciato, quindi, l’identikit dei tirocinanti per facoltà, per tipologia di tirocinio aziendale e per tipologia di lavoratore in entrata nel mondo del lavoro. Successivamente, sfruttando gli strumenti dell’analisi multivariata, si è elaborato un modello di regressione in grado di evidenziare i principali fattori che favoriscono il raggiungimento dei risultati, tentando in ultimo l’elaborazione di alcune proposte e strumenti utili al fine di implementare la discussione legata alle dinamiche proprie della formazione.

The Fulbright program was essential in the life and career of many Italian scientists, artists, musicians, etc. and it was very important in opening up American studies at Ca’ Foscari, one of the very first universities, with Roma La Sapienza, to start a separate course of American studies in Europe.

Abstract:
The essay presents and analyses the film criticism articles written by Paola Masino for the new edition of the Venice Film Festival after the Second World War. The articles, which appeared in the Gazzetta d’Italia between August 31 and September 19, 1946, were not later collected or republished. These are rare materials, never studied before, found among the documents of the Fondo Paola Masino kept at the Archivio del Novecento, Sapienza University of Rome. Other significant and useful information to understand Masino’s critical perspective on cinema emerges from the letters sent from Venice to family members. The analysis of the articles highlights in Paola Masino a lively intellectual curiosity and great precision in aesthetic judgments, in addition to a peculiar sensitivity to chromatic values, and an ethical attention to the political perspective of film directors and to the recent tragedies of war and partisan resistance in Italy. Among the most interesting data emerged from these articles, there are some theoretical reflections on aesthetic principles valid not only for cinema, but for all the arts, including the narrative and the literary work of the same Paola Masino.

This negletc state produces a serious problem related to a wider phenomenon of abandonment of entire portions of italian territories. Realities that differ form the city because of their morphology: Does urban shape represent an urban limit? or is it an alternative testimony to the city? Research purpose is to understand how relationship, between these cases and the territory, works; in particular during the absence of the main component: the human one. The case study Santo Stefano di Sessanio, an ancient village in the center of Italy, inhabited until 90's, shows how the examination of urban shape represents the potentiality of his own revitalization. By relating his historical identity to the scattered hotel projectual approach, it contributes to combine conservation, valorization and sustainability of the existing building fabric, in order to claim the authenticity of these villages declaring their own autonomy and dimension to major urban centers polarization. In this example transformation is meant as conscious project that grow up from the built reality not from the project itself, transformation as knowledge of urban facts, tool to approach to the structure of this reality. E-mail: giancarlo.salamone@uniroma1.it Keywords (3-5): Restructuring, Rome, Trastevere, process, reading method, tools, analysis in urban morphology Conference topics and scale: Tools of analysis in urban morphology Trastevere, the only area of the historic center of Rome (together with the Vatican / Borgo complex) located on the right side of the Tiber river, shows a morphological structure that depends on the pre-existing substrate, both road that typological, which was modified during the post-unity period by the establishment of the Tiber fronts and, above all, by the opening of Viale Trastevere. In the way of thinking about urban morphology as a scalar product of the factors that influence each other, in particular building typology, local structure, overall structure and territory, and that contribute together to generate an organism, it is therefore possible to read this part of the historical center as the last product, but not definitive, of a "process". The reading method on the consolidated structure, later renovated in a post-unification era, is based on the analysis of the most abundant building typology and on the permanence and derivations of local typological processes that led to the formulation of the “line house” in nineteenth-century line, the predominant building type of roman expansion in nineteenth-twentieth century. The reading of the restructuring, understood as synchronic action on the historical center, has been implemented instead by the analysis of synchronic variations at “line house” through the research of all projects registered for the edification of each block. Thus we can see how the blocks resulting from the transformation, in the logic of a restructuring "contromaglia" like the one for the opening of Viale Trastevere, will be the result of the disconnection of the existing blocks in which the building type adopted has had to adapt to a lower return situations: a reading of a synchronic action on a diachronic process that gives us the modern morphological apparatus. Abstract:
The two-phase flow in a geometry representing the final portion of the internal cooling channels of a gas turbine blade is here presented and discussed. In the configuration under scrutiny, the coolant flows inside the duct in radial direction and it leaves the blade through the trailing edge after a 90 deg turning. An unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) simulation of the flow inside such channel was carried out. An original non-linear version of the well-established ζ-f elliptic relaxation model was developed and applied here. The new model was implemented in the well-validated T-FlowS code currently developed by the authors’ group at Sapienza Università di Roma. The predictions demonstrated a good accuracy of the non-linear URANS model, clearly improving the results of the baseline linear ζ-f model and of the Launder Sharma k-ε model used as reference. The obtained unsteady flow field was adopted to track a large number of solid particles released from several selected sections at the inlet and representing the powders usually dispersed (sand, volcanic ashes) in the air spilled from the compressor and used as cooling fluid. The well-validated particle-tracking algorithm here adopted for determining the trajectories demonstrated to be very sensitive to the flow unsteadiness. Finally, the fouling of the solid surfaces was estimated by adopting a model based on the coefficient of restitution approach.

Conference topics and scale: City transformations The crisis of the traditional city, with its morphological characteristics, has been largely debated. The new urban phenomenon has almost always been described as antithetical; by contrary this article interrogates the possibility of reading a continuity between the traditional and the contemporary city. The article brings forth the concept that the territory can be described as an urban phenomenon result of a change of scale of the city, and offers the definition of the contemporary city as Territorial City (Città-Territorio). The article recovers this term introduced in the 70’s by the Italian morphological school, to emphasize the continuity with the European traditional morphological schools, taking advantage of its learnings, to compare the traditional city, with the contemporary city. The relevance of a morphological approach in the study of the contemporary Territorial City is discussed through an excursus of the main European schools’ contributions, with a particular schematization due to geographical areas. From the synthesis of these references emerges a basis for the definition of a Taxonomy organised around tree main elements that constitute the urban grid. Moreover, the article proposes a methodology for the analysis of the Territorial City that use the Taxonomy as reading tool; this method, illustrated through his experimentation on the Metropolitan Region of Barcelona, is of particular relevance towards the interpretation of the dynamics that have characterised the morphology of the current urban phenomenon, describing its aggregation logics and decomposing the historical-procedural continuum. This analysis, carried out within the Lettura e Progetto Laboratory of "Sapienza" University of Rome and based on the “processual” method, proposes the reconstruction, through the reading and interpretation of the formative process, of the urban settlement of Fiumicino, on the east coast of Rome . The area was formed by a set of fragmented interventions developed in different phases, with heterogeneous destinations and, apparently, no relation of necessity. The site appears mainly linked to the development of illegal buildings that date back to the second postwar period. However, a deeper analysis based on the reading and interpretation of the character of the building fabric, shows the existence of a clear relation of historical continuity between the today town and the territorial structures developed starting from the ancient city of Portus. Through this reading emerges the plan of a town connected to the activities of Porto Canale (Channel Port) in function since XVI Century. From the analysis of the historical cartography appears as a matrix route based on the continuation of the ancient via Portuense was formed in time and developed on the building routes that have resulted. We believe that this is a remarkable case study that exemplifies the formation of local identity at the edge of the metropolis as over time the area has developed a complex structure, connected to port activities, that is now forming its own urban character and individuality, so that recently it was constituted in autonomous municipality. All those gradual adjustments are manifested according to the demand, bring toward a less formal and more flexible spatial order, for which the traditional forms of the "static" city become the background of the "kinetic" landscape of informal cities. On the contrary of the formal processes of urban planning, informality process is configured as an organic development model and a flexible dynamic system opened to changes. The informal space is produced according to principles of spontaneity and self-organization. A consideration on the possibility to assume different approaches can be proposed. Those approaches should integrate in the design reasoning all the dynamics usually excluded by the discourse on the urban project, which processes can become catalysts to enrich the methods of planning and design of the urban space. Nowadays, lots of opportunities are offered to students to fly their own experiment on board of rockets or balloons. Thanks to those opportunities, young scientists have a chance to experience hands-on project and even to find a vocation: pursuing experimentations on-board of flight missions. However, it can appear, for these young professionals, that flying on board sounding rockets or stratospheric balloons is hard to access or to afford. Yet the opportunities exist and are waiting for them! Space educational programmes enable students to learn, in a short period of time, all phases of a scientific project; a unique chance to experience a full project cycle from objectives’ definition to the publication of the results. Thus, students define mission requirements, design, manufacture, test and finally launch their own experiment! On REXUS/BEXUS [1] for example, students experience an end-to-end project with all disciplines required by a Space project (science, mechanics, electronics, software, system engineering, management, finances, outreach). The concretisation of all efforts occurs during the launch campaign, organised at SSC Esrange (Sweden). The campaign is always an intense period for the participants: high level of concentration, pressure, stress but a massive work that pays off during the flight and after. Usually, this key event enables ideas and improvements to pop up; a prolific event to define the next step of an experiment, maybe on a future mission! Many students start their professional career after the campaign. Despite new ideas and the drive to pursue, a common idea of these young professionals is that it is hard to access to flight opportunities on sounding rockets or stratospheric balloons while not being a student anymore: too expensive to finance a campaign? too complex to organise? who to contact? Many questions that it is time to answer. Yes, it is possible! At SSC, we enable access to stratospheric balloons, sounding rockets and drop tests on a cost-efficient entrance level or fully funded through national and international programmes. One of these examples is the EOSTRE mission [2] (Experiment on Outliving Microorganisms under Stratospheric Environment), developed by FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences (Germany) in collaboration with the University of Oulu (Finland); a former BEXUS team that developed its own balloon mission, launched successfully from Esrange in March 2020. Several former students from REXUS/BEXUS have joined professional opportunities, such as the HEMERA [3] programme, with the experiments GRASS from INAF (Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica) and STRAINS (Sapienza University, Rome) and launched it from Esrange in September 2021. Today, SSC is also offering ride share opportunities on sounding rockets with the programme SubOrbital Express [4]; first successful launch was in June 2019 on board MASER 14 (S1X-1). Opportunities are still open for the next missions in fall 2022 (S1X-3) and in 2023 (S1X-4)

Abstract:
Questo documento espone alcune considerazioni a proposito della promozione dei vaccini per il SARS-CoV-2 e delle strategie per garantirne un’equa distribuzione tra gli immigrati senza documenti residenti in Italia e, in particolare, a Roma. Quanto emerge dal caso italiano può essere in parte applicabile ad altri contesti in cui la somministrazione del vaccino è stata legata al dispositivo del “passaporto vaccinale”, ovvero il certificato COVID digitale dell'UE, in Italia Green Pass. Nell’organizzazione della campagna vaccinale alcune categorie sociali sono state identificate come “difficili da raggiungere” (hard to reach) e per cui è necessario immaginare interventi specifici.1 In questo testo si sceglie di parlare di persone razzializzate e illegalizzate poiché senza documenti per riferirsi a persone immigrate che non hanno cittadinanza, permesso di soggiorno e status di rifugiato. Questo documento esplora il contesto quotidiano delle vite delle persone illegalizzate e come l’esperienza della pandemia di COVID-19 abbia esacerbato le difficoltà che queste persone incontrano, 23 mettendo in luce il collegamento tra le vulnerabilità, consolidate ed emergenti, con la percezione dei vaccini. Si suggerisce come l’orientamento e la percezione dei vaccini si inseriscano all’interno dei contesti di vita delle persone, in cui molto spesso la priorità è data al sostentamento economico. In molti casi, l’accettazione della vaccinazione è motivata dalla necessità di continuare ad avere un lavoro retribuito piuttosto che a una preoccupazione connessa alla salute o a una fiducia nei confronti delle istituzioni sanitarie. Il seguente documento si pone l’obiettivo di esaminare come i vaccini possano essere distribuiti in modo equo e capace di aumentare la fiducia e i processi di inclusione nella società post-pandemica. Il testo si basa principalmente sulla ricerca etnografica e le testimonianze raccolte attraverso interviste e osservazioni con persone razzializzate e illegalizzate nella città di Roma, insieme a rappresentanti della società civile e operatori socio-sanitari tra dicembre 2021 e gennaio 2022. Questo documento è stato sviluppato per SSHAP da Sara Vallerani (Università di Roma Tre), Elizabeth Storer (LSE) e Costanza Torre (LSE).
