Abstract:
Between 1200 and 1350, the meaning attributed to the terms ‘emperor’ and ‘empire’ evolved in France to reflect the growth in power of the Capetian-Valois kings and a concomitant decline in the authority exercised by contemporary Romano-German rulers. Both terms were ubiquitous in France in this period. The fact that neither was adopted to describe the expansion of royal power was because, as this article will demonstrate, its growth was considered a consolidation of existing rights and was limited by deep-seated concerns for legitimacy, neither of which fostered imperial comparisons. At the same time, a multi-layered understanding of imperial terminology developed in France. On one level, ‘empire’ and ‘emperor’ became interchangeable with ‘kingdom’ and ‘king’. Yet imperial vocabulary remained highly malleable. Philip IV’s conflict with the papacy led to the development of specific arguments intended to undermine any subordination of French royal authority to external parties. However, far from becoming irrelevant, the terminology of empire became integral to contemporary French political discourse. It offered solutions to otherwise insoluble problems. The article establishes the way in which the office of emperor came to be understood as, simultaneously, a limited form of temporal kingship but one that encompassed a universal role disassociated from government. Imperial terms were transmuted in French thought from an association with the exercise of universal temporal authority to signify a specialised function. This function was usually, but not exclusively, understood as leadership of the crusade.

Abstract:
Since changes in all 4 dimensions of spacetime are components of displacement for gravitational waves, a theoretical result is presented that their speed is undefined, and that the Theory of Relativity is not reliable to predict their speed. Astrophysical experiments are proposed with objectives to directly measure gravitational wave speed, and to verify these theoretical results. From the circumference of two merging black hole's final orbit, it is proposed to make an estimate of a total duration of the last ten orbits, before gravitational collapse, for comparison with durations of reported gravitational wave signals. It is proposed to open a new field of engineering of spacetime wave modulation with an objective of faster and better data transmission and communication through the Earth, the Sun, and deep space. If experiments verify that gravitational waves have infinite speed, it is concluded that a catastrophic gravitational collapse, such as a merger of quasars, today, would re-define the geometry and curvature of spacetime on Earth, instantly, without optical observations of this merger visible, until billions of years in the future.

Abstract Researches on the topological edge state in the photonic lattice are attracting considerable attention. Here, we report the studies on a particular state for which the topological invariant is undefined. We constructed an anti-parity-time-symmetric photonic lattice by using the perturbation method. Light distributes only in the wide waveguides with equal magnitude for the state with undefined winding numbers. Further studies show that the equal intensity transmission is unaffected except for the defect site. Our work provides a new way to study the topological state and the equally divided light transmission and might be applicable in optical circuits and optical interconnect.

Abstract:
The paper studies the use of the word terrorist in the dispatches of two major international news agencies, AP and Reuters. It can be assumed that the attacks on September 11, 2001, have changed the role of terrorist and affected the meaning of the word. While terrorists have been traditionally construed as violent actors, they are now, more and more, seen as a static threat. The paper examines three collocations — terrorist attack, terrorist threat and terrorist suspect — as grammatical metaphors (cf. Halliday 1994); the collocation terrorist network is analysed as a conceptual metaphor (cf. Lakoff and Johnson 1980). Linguistic strategies manifested in the data form a pattern that I call “anti-terrorism discourse”. Modality and general vagueness of the language are conspicuous features in the news agency dispatches on terrorism; the reports focus on what may happen or may have happened. This can be argued to undermine the factuality of news agency discourse.

Abstract:
AbstractLet ψ be a partial recursive function (of one argument) with λ-defining termF∈Λ°. This meansThere are several proposals for whatF⌜n⌝ should be in case ψ(n) is undefined: (1) a term without a normal form (Church); (2) an unsolvable term (Barendregt); (3) an easy term (Visser); (4) a term of order 0 (Statman). These four possibilities will be covered by one ‘master’ result of Statman which is based on the ‘Anti Diagonal Normalization Theorem’ of Visser (1980). That ingenious theorem about precomplete numerations of Ershov is a powerful tool with applications in recursion theory, metamathematics of arithmetic and lambda calculus.

Abstract:
We consider a generalization of aggregation and fusion functions when some of their inputs or outputs are undefined. For simplicity, we represent undefined values by a single NaN (not-a-number) value. We define four main methods of treating undefined values, observe some of their properties, and compare them with several mainstream implementations and norms for handling NaN values. Finally, as a case study demonstrating the apparatus's usefulness, the formalism is applied to the discrete fuzzy transform technique. The formalism allows us to prove a generalized approximation theorem for fuzzy transforms, which removes previously required restrictions on fuzzy partitions for sparse input data.

Abstract:
The reason of undefined behavior is source code written in violation of the C language standard. Undefined behavior leads to vulnerabilities in software. One of the common sources of undefined behavior is an incorrect use of functions for nonlocal jumps (in particular setjmp and longjmp). This paper considers the means of detecting this type of undefined behavior which are implemented in the major modern compilers (GCC, Clang, MSVC). We conclude that these means either have significant disadvantages or are absent in some compilers. This paper presents the implementation of a new method of compiler warning of the considered undefined behavior. The described method is accurate enough for practical application on real projects. We consider the advantages of the proposed solution over similar existing ones.

Abstract:
This study aims to evaluate the tissue development through real time ultrasound of lambs before slaughter in feedlot. It has been used thirty non-castrated lambs; being 10 Dorper x undefined breed, 10 Santa Inês x undefined breed and 10 undefined breed. The experimental units were about 120 days of age and 19,31kg weight of in average. The lambs have received a single and complete diet, containing 15,5% of crude protein and 2,58 Mcal/kg of dry matter. It has not been observed significant effect among the genotypes for any analyzed feature in the beginning of the experiment; however, there was influence of the genotype at the 28th days in feedlot, for the body score, rib eye area and muscularity, in which the lambs Dorper x undefined breed were superior to the undefined breed. It has been verified the same effect at the 56 days in feedlot. The undefined breed lambs have presented higher marbling score than the others. There was positive linear correlation between the growing behavior of Longissimus dorsi muscle and adipose tissues with the time in days in feedlot.

Abstract:
Aim: to develop an universal cephalometric analysis of a beautiful female face and a simple method of the planning of orthognathic surgery for correcting malocclusions, improving airway permeability, and achieving a good stable esthetic outcome. Patients and Methods: to determine facial proportions, a term “rondist” (Ro) was introduced defined as a horizontal plane that corresponds with the natural line dividing a head into the upper and lower portions. Three planes being perpendicular to the rondist go through the subnasal point (Sn), glabella (Gb), and tuber frontale (Tf). LF is the lower one-third of the face. A profile depth (PD) is the ratio of Sn-Gb distance to Gb-Tf distance while a lower facial inclination (LFI) is the angle between LF and Ro (LF/Ro). 122 most beautiful female photos from various rankings were analyzed. All faces were allocated to either group 1 (modern Caucasian women, n=52), 2 (20th century Caucasian women, n=33), 3 (Mongoloid women, n=19), or 4 (Negroid women, n=18). Results: side portrait image was found for each face. PD and LFI were determined. PD and LFI were 0.97±0.016 93.3°±0.6° in group 1 (Gaussian distribution), 0.97±0.02 and 93.0°±0.8° in group 2, 0.96±0.02 and 93.6°±1.1° in group 3, and 0.97±0.03 and 92.6°±1.1° in group 4, respectively. Statistical analysis has demonstrated that all distributions belong to the same general population. Conclusion: the characterization of a novel facial plane (Ro) and cephalometric analysis revealed the race- and history-independent criteria of a beautiful face that are intuitively defined by most people. Beautiful faces follow the same template with PD equal to 1.0 and LFI closer to 90°. KEYWORDS: facial proportions, attractiveness, dental anomalies, sleep apnea. Abstract:
Background: In multiple myeloma (MM), impact of specific chromosomal translocations involving IgH (14q21 locus, including t(4;14), t(11;14), and t(14;16) etc.) has been explored extensively. However, over 15% MM patients harboring IgH translocation with undefined partners have long been ignored. Methods: A prospective non-randomized cohort study with a total of 715 newly-diagnosed MM cases was conducted, 13.6% of whom were t(14;undefined) positive. The whole cohort was divided into four groups: no IgH split (47.7%); t(14;undefined) (13.6%); t(11;14) (17.6%); and t(4;14) or t(14;16) group (21.1%). Results: Median OS for the four groups were 84.2, not reached (NR), 58.7, and 44.2 months respectively, with p values for t(14;undefined) vs. no IgH split, t(11;14), and t(4;14)/t(14;16) groups of 0.197, 0.022 and 0.001, respectively(Figure B).In bortezomib-based group, the survival advantage gained by t(14;undefined) group was much more significant compared to t(11;14) and t(4;14)/t(14;16) groups. Importantly, t(14;undefined) turned out to be an independent predictive factor for longer OS of MM patients in multivariate analysis, especially in the context of bortezomib-treatment. Similar results were also observed in the PUMCH external validation cohort (Figure C). Conclusion: Collectively, our data confirmed and externally validated the favorable prognosis of the t(14;undefined) groups, especially in the era of novel agents.
