Abstract:
Ulrich Meyer's objections to Dummett's arguments on the time continuum fail because he takes Dummett to endorse Hume's atomistic doctrine that events are ‘loose and separate’, In fact, Dummett rejects this doctrine. He used it in his original article only to indicate that certain implications which are conceptually possible fom the point of view of the classical model of time are not actually conceptually possible.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Leadership is the process of influence of the leader on his followers oriented to achieve certain objectives aligned to values, beliefs, principles, needs and motivations, above all leads the group overcoming crisis and taking advantage of opportunities. Abstract:
SiC nanometer powders were synthesized by the chemical vapor reaction of the SiH4–C2H4–H2 system in the temperature range between 1423 K and 1673 K. The effects of processing conditions such as reactive temperature, gas composition ratio, and total flow rate on powder characteristics were studied using transmission electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, infrared, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller, and chemical analyses. A forming mechanism has been proposed for solid and hollow particles in different processing conditions. The experimental results concerning particle growth are discussed according to the model of G.D. Ulrich et al., which considers both collision and coalescence phenomena.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the extent to which models based on evolutionary economics can provide a worthy alternative to neoclassical equilibrium models. The chapter discusses the difference between Darwinian and non-Darwinian evolutionary economic models. The chapter includes a discussion of Armen Alchian’s 1950 article that he says is erroneously identified as evolutionary economics. The works of evolutionary economists Ulrich Witt, Jack Vromen, Richard Nelson and Sidney are explained and critically examined. The chapter also considers the question of whether evolutionary economics can ever displace equilibrium economics. Some current evolutionary economic model builders have serious doubts. The chapter concludes with some speculations about going beyond the consideration of the individual firm to include sociological aspects of consumer preference.

Ballestero, Andrea, and Brit Ross Winthereik, eds. Experimenting with Ethnography. Duke University Press, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.1215/9781478013211.

Full text
Abstract:
Experimenting with Ethnography collects twenty-one essays that open new paths for doing ethnographic analysis. The contributors—who come from a variety of intellectual and methodological traditions—enliven analysis by refusing to take it as an abstract, disembodied exercise. Rather, they frame it as a concrete mode of action and a creative practice. Encompassing topics ranging from language and the body to technology and modes of collaboration, the essays invite readers to focus on the imaginative work that needs to be performed prior to completing an argument. Whether exchanging objects, showing how to use drawn images as a way to analyze data, or working with smartphones, sound recordings, and social media as analytic devices, the contributors explore the deliberate processes for pursuing experimental thinking through ethnography. Practical and broad in theoretical scope, Experimenting with Ethnography is an indispensable companion for all ethnographers. Contributors. Abstract:
What is the subject of qualitatively oriented nursing research? Which methods are suitable for its documentation? And what methodological questions and problems arise from it? This book provides initial potential answers to these questions generated by research. It presents and discusses central research approaches in an overview and, above all, on the basis of current concrete projects. This critical stocktaking is integrated into a heuristic framework model consisting of nine fields of conflicting interest that are specific to nursing care, for whose analysis qualitative methodological approaches are particularly suitable. This book is primarily intended for researchers and those interested in research who already have a basic knowledge of methodology. Abstract:
The employment and work of the future is taking place in service provider systems, which are a result of the digital revolution. Nevertheless, politics, science and research have insufficiently considered the consequences of the digital revolution for the organisation of work in the field of service provision. Using the example of logistics, this book presents the social economy, knowledge services, and the consequences and design options for work and employment at the levels of ‘society’, ‘services, markets and the economy’, ‘service development’, ‘service production’ and ‘model development’ from different technical perspectives. The essay ‘Services are becoming high-tech’, written by twenty academics, outlines a design concept for top-class service research, which can serve as a trailblazer for international competitiveness, high customer value and good work in the digital revolution. Abstract:
This chapter explores the entanglement of cognitive psychology with science fiction, but avoids familiar motifs from post-cyberpunk fiction. The beginnings of cognitive psychology are traced to the foundational work of figures such as George Miller and Noam Chomsky, subsequently codified into a self-conscious school by Ulrich Neisser. Jack Finney’s classic narrative, The Body Snatchers (1955), draws upon earlier proto-cognitivist discourses to contend, often quite didactically, that the human mind typically operates as a biased, limited capacity information processor. With this psychological and political thesis, the novel explores possible personal, political and aesthetic strategies that might free the human mind from its stereotypes and blind spots. The unsettling of everyday perception in The Body Snatchers is systematically generalized by the linguistic novums of Ian Watson’s The Embedding (1973), Samuel Delany’s Babel-17 (1966), and Ted Chiang’s ‘Story of Your Life’ (1998), which imagine that language (and thought) is fundamentally constructive of perceived reality. These stories ask broader, cosmological questions about the nature and accessibility of ultimate reality – with Watson’s novel ultimately proposing a mystical riposte to cognitivism’s model of the mind.

Abstract:
A very large majority of the current product development process models put forward in textbooks present a homogenous structure, what Ulrich & Eppinger [1] call the market-pull model, presented as a generic one, while other possible product development process models are merely seen as variants. This paper focuses on the task clarification and derived activities (mainly the systematic search for customer needs through market study and the supplementary development costs it entails) and investigates two alternative strategies that are not derived from the generic process model. The first alternative is the market-pull model without an extensive task clarification. The second is the application of the so-called expeditionary marketing strategy. With the help of simplified analytic modeling, the conditions for which these alternatives are as efficient as the generic process model are discussed. This advocates the development of more flexible process models.

Abstract:
Full-scope nuclear control room simulators were developed to address operator skill deficits associated with several high-profile accidents occurring in the 1980s. Full-scope simulators are increasingly used to support plant modernization and advanced reactor research and development. New digital control room designs use full-scope simulators to develop and evaluate new concept of operations to support regulator required Human Factors Engineering Program Review Model (HFEPRM) activities. Modern simulator designs require more diverse and robust capabilities to serve the diverse needs of multiple user groups including researchers and educators. A common framework for evaluating features to support training, research, and education is critical to ensure future simulators enable research to support immediate and future plant modernization and advanced reactor deployment needs. An initial framework comprised of eight feature categories was developed by reviewing published simulator-based research and analyzing simulator features against research objectives and results (Gideon and Ulrich, 2022). A survey was administered to simulator users to evaluate the suitability of eight critical capabilities of a modified version of the framework to characterize and differentiate simulators across training, research, and education uses (n = 21). The results demonstrate the framework's effectiveness as a baseline for assessing the functionalities of simulators in line with their specific needs. Future work aims to validate the framework within a regulatory HFEPRM process to demonstrate its use as a tool to identify missing capabilities of existing simulators or to specify requirements for new simulators.

Abstract:
Abstract Over the last years, the use of autonomous solutions for balancing the loading on the drill-bit has increased annually. By 2021, downhole tools for this purpose have been used for more than 1,500 wells and these become possibly the fastest growing trend in drilling. Polycrystaline Diamond Compact (PDC) drill-bits represent a great potential for drilling economics when steady cutting is attainable. Deep drilling, however, typically involves long drillstring causing an array of dynamic instabilities preventing steady cutting conditions at the bit. Such behavior affects drilling performance in terms of the rate-of-penetration (ROP) and system damage and failure. This leaves a big potential for improvement of drilling performance. The first experiments with an autonomous downhole regulator constructed were completed at Ulrigg in Stavanger almost twenty years ago to tap into this potential. Several versions of similar tools have since developed using a variety of mechanical and hydraulic functions to modify and shift the forces acting on the drill-bit in order to improve drilling performance. The Norwegian operator Equinor has participated from the very start of this new automation trend. By 2020 they had deployed downhole regulators to a total of 93 well sections on the Norwegian Continental Shelf alone. In this paper, Equinor shares statistic plots from comparing these first 93 sections to well section with conventional BHA's. The data show how the continuous improvement of the regulator eventually led to gradual improvement of both ROP and footage - in addition to its initial task of reducing vibrations. By utilizing a variety of dynamic models, predictions and sensitivity analysis, it has been revealed that the downhole regulator could change the dynamic response of the bit such that the friction losses at the bit are reduced and the rock cutting efficiency is improved. In this paper, it is shown that such benefits can also be expected in real-life scenarios in which two key aspects play a role: 1) a PDC bit penetrating heterogeneous layers of rock formations, and 2) involving two frictional losses due to borehole - drillstring contact in deviated wells. This paper brings a unique insight to the fundamentals, advanced mathematical models, and statistical results from a new line of drilling technology. The autonomous regulators bring a combination of reduction in risk and time to drill that makes a significant impact on cost.
