Abstract:
SummaryReviewing three important recently published volumes on Pentateuch criticism, Torsten Uhlig highlights their merits and limits, evaluates their contribution to the interpretation of the Pentateuch and summarises some of the central issues that Pentateuch studies need to address. Among them, he raises the issue of integrating diachronic studies and narrative approaches. Moreover, while previous evangelical contributions to Pentateuch studies often focused on aspects of unity, Uhlig indicates the merits of acknowledging and integrating the diversities in a narratological approach. He concludes with some hermeneutical reflections that also interrelate with other disciplines of theology.

Abstract:
Abstract Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic (LTCC) is a proven packaging technology for microwave and millimetre-wave applications. Advanced low-loss material systems and improved manufacturing technology facilitate economic and highly reliable packaging solutions for automotive, telecom, medical and security applications. The fact that the substrate is hermetic facilitates unique packaging concepts where the LTCC multilayer is part of a hermetic package. However, there is a trade-off for the increasing complexity of these modules: When active devices are involved, the density of power dissipation is also rising. Liquid cooling provides an alternative where (forced air) convection cooling is not possible for lack of space or because of other limitations. With the integration of micro-channels into the LTCC-multilayer-stack the microwave-substrate becomes part of the piping for liquid cooling and brings the coolant in close contact to the heat source. As an example for such a solution a switched mode amplifier shall be presented that uses liquid cooling for the power transistor. Two different approaches for the routing of the cooling channels inside the LTCC are compared with cooling on a metal block at constant temperature. For the exact determination of all parameters, dissipated power and temperature on the die (junction temperature) a thermal test die is used instead of the transistor for the test vehicles.

Abstract:
We consider a setting where agents can choose between two currencies to conduct their goods purchases. The usage of either currency comes with currency-specific transactions costs. For example, purchasing some goods with cryptocurrencies rather than dollars is easier and may avoid taxes. We explore an extension of Schilling-Uhlig (2019), allowing for asymmetry in transaction costs as well as dollar-bitcoin exchange fees. Agents alternate in their role as buyers and sellers, necessitating currency. A central bank steers the dollar inflation path, while bitcoins are in fixed supply. We characterize the nonstochastic equilibrium and the resulting exchange rate dynamics.

Abstract:
Two specimens of the Cretaceous genus Pictetia Uhlig, 1883, have been found in the Cottonwood District, northern California, the first record of this genus in North America. The larger specimen is a septate whorl fragment from the Brewericeras hulenense zone that is associated with Douvilleiceras mammillatum. It is identified as Pictetia sp. The smaller specimen is a septate fragment of one and a half whorls from the Oxytropidoceras packardi zone associated with Cleoniceras. It is identified with the type species, Pictetia astieriana Orbigny, 1842, previously recorded from Europe. A review of the genus Pictetia suggests that species assigned to the genus have an open coil with a rounded dorsum. The occurrences of these Tethyan elements in the Albian fauna of the Cottonwood District suggest easy communication for many Cretaceous taxa between northern California and the Tethyan realm of Europe, the Caucasus, and Madagascar.

Abstract:
Abstract In the earlier related literature, consumption tax rate Laffer curve is found to be strictly increasing (see Trabandt and Uhlig (2011)). In this paper, a general equilibrium macro model is augmented by introducing a substitute for private consumption in the form of home production. The introduction of home production brings about an additional margin of adjustment – an increase in consumption tax rate not only decreases labor supply and reduces the consumption tax base but also allows a substitution of market goods with home-produced goods. The main objective of this paper is to show that, after the introduction of home production, the consumption tax Laffer curve exhibits an inverse U-shape. Also the income tax Laffer curves are significantly altered. The result shown in this paper casts doubt on some of the earlier results in the literature.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In this paper, we calculate Jeffreys prior for an AR(1) process with and without a constant and a time trend when using the exact likelihood function. We show how this prior can be calculated for the explosive region, even though the unconditional variance of the process is infinite. The calculations lend additional support to the Schotman-van Dijk [6] procedure for restricting the location and the variance of the time trend coefficient. The results show that flat priors are reasonable for the nonexplosive region in an AR(1) without a constant and a time trend where the variance is known and the initial observation is zero, i.e., for the special case studied by Sims and Uhlig [7]. Differences to a flat prior analysis remain in particular for nonzero initial observations, however. For the explosive region, the unconditional prior diverges as the root diverges, supporting findings by Phillips [4]. This paper thus provides a useful perspective as well as some reconciliation for the different stands taken in the literature about priors and Bayesian inference for potentially nonstationary time series.
