Abstract:
Understanding the factors that drive green space composition and richness in heterogeneous urban landscapes is critical for maintaining important ecosystem services and biodiversity. Few studies have been conducted on urban greening and plant diversity at the urban functional unit (UFU) level, although a handful of studies have explored the drivers of greening percentage and its relationships with plant richness in tropical cities. In this study, we conducted field surveys, compiled census and remote sensing data, and performed spatial analyses to investigate the interrelationship between greening percentages, plant diversity, and the socioeconomic variables of different primary and secondary UFUs in the cities of Beijing, Zhanjiang, and Haikou in China. We found that these relationships did not differ significantly between primary and secondary UFUs, and that Parks represented the largest areas of forested land, grassland, and water bodies across all three cities. Moreover, the greening percentages of all UFUs across these three cities were positively correlated with both socioeconomic variables and plant species richness. These relationships can be utilized to guide future green space planning within urban ecosystems.

Abstract:
Urban green spaces provide a host of ecosystem services, the quantity and structure of which play an important role in human well-being. Rapid urbanization may modify urban green spaces, having various effects on plant diversity. Tropical coastal cities have urbanized rapidly in recent decades, but few studies have been conducted with a focus on their green spaces. We studied the responses of cultivated and spontaneous plants, both key components of urban flora, to the landscape structure of urban green spaces and possible social drivers. We analyzed existing relationships between plant diversity indices, urban green space landscape metrics (using Systeme Probatoire d’Observation de la Terre (SPOT) data,), and social factors, including the type, population density, construction age, and GPS coordinates of each Urban Functional Unit, or UFU. We found that UFUs with more green space patches had higher cultivated and spontaneous species richness than those with fewer green space patches. Spontaneous species richness decreased when green space patches became fragmented, and it increased when green space patches were more connected (e.g., via land bridges). Conversely, cultivated species richness increased with green space patch fragmentation. The phylogenetic diversity of both cultivated and spontaneous plants were weakly associated with green space structure, which was strongly driven by land use. Old UFUs and those with larger populations had more green space patches overall, although they tended to be small and fragmented. Green space patch density was found to increase as the UFU age increased. From the viewpoint of knowledge transfer, understanding the effects and drivers of landscape patterns of urban green spaces could inform the development of improved policies and management of urban green space areas.

Abstract:
Urushiol derivatives have vast potentials for using as coating materials. However, the cured coatings are quite brittle, limiting their applications. In this study, urushiol-furfural (UFUR) was chosen as an example of urushiol derivatives and a liquid crystal (LC) epoxy resin, tetramethylbiphenyl diglycidyl ether (TMBPDE), was for the first time utilized to modify UFUR. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and solid-state13C nuclear magnetic resonance showed the reactions between TMBPDE and UFUR after the UFUR/TMBPDE composite resin was cured. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis showed that theTgsignificantly increased after the addition of TMBPDE. Thermogravimetry analysis indicated that the cured UFUR/TMBPDE composite resin exhibited increasing thermodecomposition temperature as the TMBPDE concentration increased, indicating its great potential for high temperature applications. Moreover, the presence of TMBPDE enhanced the toughness of UFUR as observed by impact test and reflected in the morphologies observed from SEM images of fracture surfaces. It would also be novel and effective to modify urushiol derivatives by the LC polymer.

In this paper, we establish a mass formula for Euclidean and Hermitian self-orthogonal codes over the finite ring Fq + uFq, where Fq is the finite field of order q and u2 = 0. We also establish a mass formula for Euclidean self-orthogonal codes over the finite ring Fq + uFq + u2Fq, with u3 = 0 and characteristic of Fq is odd. These mass formulas are used to give a classification of Euclidean and Hermitian self-orthogonal codes over F2 + uF2 and F3 + uF3 of small lengths.

Bu çalışmada stratejik bir öngörü yaklaşımı olarak ufuk taraması tanımlanarak, bilgi yönetimi ile ilişkisi kurulmuştur. Birçok Avrupa ülkesinde kamu ve özel sektörde yaygın olarak kullanılan bu öngörü yönteminin Türkiye’de ele alınıp kullanılmadığı vurgulanmıştır. Çalışmada, ufuk taramasının nasıl uygulandığı ve örgütsel etkileri açıklanmıştır. Buna ek olarak, ufuk taraması endüstri 4.0 çağında işletmelerin öngörü faaliyetleri ve bilgi yönetimi ile birlikte stratejik bir yaklaşımla geleceği yakalamalarına katkı sağlayacak bir yaklaşım olarak ele alınmıştır.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to characterize genotypes of the salad-type tomato with a determinate growth habit and select genotypes resistant to the two-spotted spider mite for higher productivity and fruit quality. The experiment was conducted at the Horticultural Experimental Station (18°42’43.19” S and 47°29’55.8” W, 873 m altitude) of the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (UFU), Monte Carmelo campus, from January to June 2018. The experimental design was in randomized blocks containing 16 treatments [12 populations of the F3RC2 generation and four controls: two commercial cultivars (Santa Clara and Rio Grande), the recurrent parent (UFU-057) and the wild species Solanum pennellii (LA-716)] with three repetitions. The accessions UFU-057F3RC210#3.6.1 and UFU-057F3RC213#2.1.2 have high potential for genetic improvement regarding resistance to the two-spotted spider mite. The genotypes UFU-13#4.4.1, UFU-7#4.7.1, UFU-7#4.3.2, UFU-13#2.5.2 and UFU-13#2.1.3 present higher acylsugar concentrations than S. pennellii, in addition to higher productivity and number of fruits per plant. It is suggested to explore combinations between those genotypes previously described with UFU-8#2.4.1 to obtain hybrids with high acylsugar concentrations, two-spotted spider mite resistance, high productivity and increased fruit mass.

Abstract:
Field experiments were conducted to Influence of different levels of nitrogen and Azospirillum inoculation on direct-seeded rice in a Vertisol, during kharif season of 2015 at Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, JNKVV, Jabalpur. The experiment was laid out under randomized block design (RBD) with 3 replications and 8 treatments namely (unfertilized+uninoculated (UFUI), recommended dose of nitrogen 50%+uninoculated (RDN50%+UI), RDN75%+UI, RDN100%+UI, UF+Azospirillum (UF+Azosp.,), RDN50%+Azosp., RDN75%+Azosp and RDN100%+Azosp.,). It was observed that significant improvement was noticed in yield attributes and soil properties. The response from the treatment of RDN100% +Azosp., was found statistically best to increase available nitrogen (N) content in soil at 45 DAS and at harvest of the crop by 29% and 27%, respectively and N content in the plant, grain and straw by 46%, 50% and 55%, respectively over the control of UFUI. Similarly, trend was significantly enhanced total N uptake by crop with 129% over the control of UFUI. While, same treatment combination increasing azospiral population in rhizospheric soil at 45 DAS, 65 DAS and at harvest by 2.28, 2.07 and 2.05 log folds, respectively over the control of UFUI and enhanced yield attributes and yields of grain and straw of rice with 113 and 58%, respectively over the control of UFUI. While the treatment RDN100%+Azosp., exhibited numerically higher values but was statistically at par to RDN75%+Azosp.

[Abstract]: In this dissertation, the author has undertaken research involving the executive of the United Firefighters’ Union - Queensland Branch (UFUQ) to develop a practical definition and application for the emerging concept of ‘human security’ and its potential application to the needs of the Union and its membership.The central research questions start by considering the Australian trade union movement’s focus on ‘job security’, before asking whether ‘human security’ represents an evolutionary move that is worthy of their consideration. Subsequent questions examine the Federal Government’s view of globalisation, as a ‘top-down’ approach, and the relationship between trade, security, and ‘the national interest’, before considering the merits of constructing a ‘bottom-up’ approach from the base of civil society, through bodies such as unions. Human security, as a recent addition to security thinking, seeks to empower‘ordinary’ people as active actors in their quest for ‘real’ security, as they seek freedom from both ‘fear’ and ‘want’. This reverses the Realist tradition that demandssecurity be derived ‘from above’, organised within the realm of sovereign states as they fulfil their task of protecting ‘the national interest’. Emerging post-Cold War,human security has been used to argue that the Realist approach to security, involving balance-of-power mechanisms, may be usurped by a more holisticapproach. One that invests people as central actors rather than states, favouring individuals above the territorial entities they inhabit. The current phase ofglobalisation poses various challenges to states’ security, as the physical bordersecurity erodes through technological advance, and new modes of business. The proposed Australia-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA) carries both potentialbenefits and disruptions to the lives of ordinary Australians. But, the debate is unbalanced, largely flowing downwards from the international sphere to individualsbelow. Alternatives generated within civil society struggle for legitimacy, failing the dominant ‘commonsense’ paradigm, as the current hegemony ensures that the mostpowerful tools in the ‘toolbox of power’ are held firmly in the grip of those better positioned to dictate policies.The search for a new definition of human security faltered, as research revealed a lower level of awareness in issues further removed from the firefighter’s control.From this finding emerged a web-based self-education research tool, and later, a simple pictorial tool, the ‘Orbits of Security’. Both instruments were inspired byGramsci’s notion of ‘cultural hegemony’. Both are intended to show the UFUQ membership how, through education, they can begin to assert greater ownership over their personal human security ‘orbit’ by comprehending the nature of ‘cultural hegemony’. The study concludes by arguing that the rightful place of ‘ordinary people’ is atsociety’s core, not at the periphery. In this way, ‘human security’ becomes a useful counter-hegemonic tool for the UFUQ, and a valuable addition to their ‘toolbox ofpower’.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior
This study sets up a proposal developed in the field of research in Knowledge and Educational Practices, focusing mainly in the university teaching. Aiming to contribute with the debates about teaching at University, this study is an analysis of the university teaching learning process in the context of the Arts courses at UFU. The methodological option proposed was defined as qualitative, with an interpretative feature. The data construction was based on question and narrative interviews. The life history enabled the data analysi. Through the question, students of Visual Arts, Music and Theater pointed the professors that has contributed for their formation with their teaching process. After this step, we came to four teachers involved, who described their personal and professional path. Their narratives afford not just the database construction, but, especially, the creation itself, from the reflection. Question about the professors identity, formation, knowledge and teaching practice were made and questioned. Among the mainly results are the interlacing of the personal and professional in the construction/mobilization of knowledge in the academic daily; and personal identity development; the diversity of knowledge need/necessary for teaching; the link of teaching and artist practices in the academic daily; the teaching learning from the relation, in/from researches, in/from experiences; the university as a formation place; and the building of art knowledge; which the formation process occurred, in the course of life, in the extend which we give meaning to what happens to us. Thus, we came up with the expression of Teacherartist as evidencing an identity that is built at the confluence between art and education, although not without dilemmas. Thereby, we pointed the inextricable relationship among formation, identity, knowledge and practices through the narratives.
Este trabalho configura-se como uma proposta desenvolvida no campo de pesquisa de Saberes e Práticas Educativas, estando o seu foco principal na docência universitária. Buscando contribuir com os debates a respeito da docência na educação superior, a pesquisa faz uma análise do processo de aprendizado da docência universitária no contexto dos cursos de Artes da UFU. A opção metodológica proposta é definida como qualitativa, dado o caráter interpretativo. A construção dos dados tornou-se possível por meio de questionários e entrevista narrativa e da história de vida como técnica de análise dos dados. Através de questionário, discentes dos cursos de Artes Visuais, Música e Teatro apontaram os professores que no exercício da docência contribuíram para sua formação. Após essa etapa, chegamos aos quatro docentes envolvidos, que narraram suas trajetórias pessoais e profissionais. As narrativas proporcionaram não apenas a construção dos dados, mas, especialmente, a criação de si, a partir da reflexão. Questões quanto à identidade, a formação, os saberes e as práticas do docente superior foram revelados e problematizados. Entre os resultados mais significativos estão o entrelaçamento entre as dimensões pessoal e profissional na construção/mobilização de saberes no cotidiano acadêmico; o desenvolvimento da identidade profissional; a diversidade de saberes envolvidos/necessários no exercício profissional docente; o vínculo das práticas docentes e artísticas no contexto universitário; o aprendizado da docência nas relações, na/pela pesquisa e na/pela experiência; a universidade como lugar da formação; a construção do conhecimento em arte; os processos formativos que ocorrem, entre outros, no transcorrer da vida, na medida em que damos sentido ao que nos acontece; Desse modo, apontamos a expressão docenteartista como a que evidencia uma identidade que se constrói na confluência entre arte e educação, todavia com dilemas. Assim, assinalamos a relação inextricável entre formação, identidade, saberes e práticas através das narrativas.

This paper draws up a diagnostic about the communication process and the actions of the scientific spreading developed by the Social Communication Board of Universidade Federal de Uberlândia ( UFU ) and its relations with the academic community, with the media and therefore, the general society. It develops a thought about the role of the journalist in the dissemination of the scientific knowledge. It calls attention to the social responsibility of the journalist, who must work in a partnership regime with the scientist in the practice of scientific spreading to the democratization of the knowledge. It points out gaps in the communicational process of the University and suggests complementary actions to the improvement of the scientific spreading .
Este trabalho traça um diagnóstico sobre o processo de comunicação e as ações de divulgação científica desenvolvidas pela Diretoria de Comunicação Social da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (UFU) e de suas relações com a comunidade acadêmica, com a mídia e, conseqüentemente, com a sociedade em geral. Desenvolve uma reflexão sobre o papel do jornalista na disseminação do conhecimento científico. Chama a atenção para a responsabilidade social do jornalista, que deve trabalhar em regime de parceria com o cientista na prática da divulgação científica para a democratização do conhecimento. Aponta lacunas no processo comunicacional da Universidade e sugere ações complementares para o aprimoramento da divulgação científica.

Abstract:
The theme of this undergraduate thesis is the university press at Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (UFU), and this thesis main goal is to portray, from its creation, the history behind Edufu, describing its trajectory to later on demonstrate how the press works when it comes to personnel, products, installations, regulations and others. Among the specific goals are the following: to demonstrate how the publishing of academic books works at UFU; to present documents that regulate its inner operations and the changes that they went through; and also to describe quantitatively the improvement of the published works throughout the years. To achieve that, a documentary research was conducted with records from the Editorial Board, resolutions from the upper boards, ordinances, internal documents from the press, among others. By doing so, the history behind a fundamental sector at UFU for recording and publishing the knowledge produced, mainly in its postgraduate programs, was reconstructed, which led to the conclusion that many of the problems that were existent at first remain unsolved, such as physical space, adequate labor, issuance of invoice etc. However, there was also improvement, and even with difficulties, the press continues to issue books. At the end, there are suggestions for further research on UFU Press, but with different approaches.
Este trabalho tem como tema a editoração universitária no âmbito da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia, com o objetivo principal de descrever a história da Edufu, a partir do contexto da sua criação, descrevendo sua trajetória, para depois demonstrar como ela é, em sua estrutura de pessoal, produtos, instalações, regulamentação, entre outras. Os objetivos específicos serão demonstrar como se dá a publicação de livros acadêmicos no contexto da UFU, expor documentos que regulamentam seu funcionamento e mudanças que eles sofreram e ainda descrever quantitativamente a evolução das publicações ao longo dos anos. Para isso, foi realizada pesquisa documental por meio de atas do Conselho Editorial, resoluções dos conselhos superiores, portarias, documentos internos da editora, entre outros. Reconstituiu-se a história de um setor da UFU fundamental para o registro e divulgação do conhecimento produzido principalmente em seus programas de pós-graduação, chegando-se à conclusão de que muitos problemas existentes desde o início dessa atividade ainda se encontram pendentes de solução, como espaço físico, mão de obra adequada, emissão de nota fiscal etc., mas também de que houve evolução e mesmo com dificuldades a editora prossegue produzindo seus livros. Ao final, fica a sugestão para novas pesquisas sobre a Editora da UFU, em diferentes abordagens.

Abstract:
Introducao: ameloblastoma trata-se de um tumor odontogenico benigno que afeta na maioria das vezes ele e encontrado na parte posterior da mandibula. Ele e localmente invasivo e decorrente de restos epiteliais do orgao do esmalte. Objetivo: relatar o tratamento cirurgico de remocao de ameloblastoma no servico de cirurgia e traumatologia da Universidade Federal de Uberlandia (UFU) Relato de caso: paciente de 33 anos, compareceu na UFU com o relato de que a tres meses antes realizou exame de radiografia panoramica, na qual foi evidenciado lesao radiolucida em corpo e ramo mandibular direito. Com a biopsia incisional e que no laudo foi diagnostico o ameloblastoma multicistico em corpo e ramo mandibular direito. Foi realizado o tratamento foi optado por fazer uma resseccao marginal. Discussao: Homens e mulheres sao igualmente afetados, e ele costuma ser encontrado prevalentemente em adultos jovens, em tal caso encontra-se em uma mulher. O melhor tratamento para diminuir as chances de recidiva e a resseccao. Conclusao: O ameloblastoma tem o seu crescimento lento e assintomatico, o reconhecimento previo da doenca pode evitar tratamentos invasivos e fornecer melhor prognostico para o paciente. ,
