Abstract:
Abstract Topographic rainfall induced by westbound tropical cyclones past an island mountain is investigated using an idealized Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model. Idealized simulations with varying vortex core size R (100–250 km), vortex intensity Vmax (20–35 m s−1), and steering wind speed U (4–10 m s−1) are conducted. The results show that the geometric distributions of major rainfall over the island are not greatly sensitive to cloud microphysics schemes using either single momentum or double momentum. Major rainfall is produced over northeastern and southwestern slopes of the mountain for smaller U. As U is doubled, the rainfall, however, is considerably weakened or is present only over southwestern slopes. For smaller U, a bifurcation of island rainfall with a sudden change in intensity or geometric shifting exists within a tiny range of R or Vmax. When the bifurcation occurs with small track deviations, geometric distributions of major rainfall are also more sensitive to cloud microphysics schemes. Such formation of bifurcation or double-peak rainfall, however, is significantly reduced when the terrain size is doubled. Systematic experiments are conducted to relate the topographical rainfalls over the northern half, southern half, and the whole of the mountain slopes to varying R, Vmax, and U. Larger U tends to produce much larger southern rainfall than northern rainfall. The average and maximum rainfalls generally increase with increased Vmax, except for large R. The decrease of average rainfall and maximum rainfall with increased U is more evident for smaller R, while not necessarily true for larger R.

AbstractIn this work, we construct the sequence spaces f(Q(r, s, t, u)), f0(Q(r, s, t, u)) and fs(Q(r, s, t, u)), where Q(r, s, t, u) is quadruple band matrix which generalizes the matrices Δ3, B(r, s, t), Δ2, B(r, s) and Δ, where Δ3, B(r, s, t), Δ2, B(r, s) and Δ are called third order difference, triple band, second order difference, double band and difference matrix, respectively. Also, we prove that these spaces are BK-spaces and are linearly isomorphic to the sequence spaces f, f0 and fs, respectively. Moreover, we give the Schauder basis and β, γ-duals of those spaces. Lastly, we characterize some matrix classes related to those spaces.

Abstract:
Abstract An improved velocity dealiasing algorithm is developed as an extension of the Next Generation Weather Radar (NEXRAD) dealiasing algorithm. The algorithm described in this paper is evaluated on selected China Next Generation Weather Radar (CINRAD) S-band radar radial velocity observations. This algorithm includes four modules for removing weak signals and determining the starting radial as a prelude to identifying and correcting aliased velocities. The proposed dealiasing algorithm was tested on 14 different weather systems, composed of typhoons, squall lines, and heavy rains. The results show that the algorithm is robust and stable for dealiasing S-band CINRAD radial velocity measurements. The performance levels for the typhoon and heavy rain cases are slightly better than for squall-line cases.

Abstract:
This paper discusses the development of a seven-band coherent wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) system covering the T to U systems, aiming to enhance the capacity and system efficiency. Seven multiband systems (C+L, S+C+L, S+C+L+U, E+S+C+L, E+S+C+L+U, O+E+S+C+L+U, and T+O+E+S+C+L+U) are designed with 40 GBaud symbol rate, 50 GHz channel spacing, and dual-polarization (DP)-16QAM signaling. The analysis adopted the enhanced Gaussian noise model, considering the amplified spontaneous emission of inline optical amplifiers and nonlinear interference (NLI) from fiber nonlinear optics, including Kerr effect and stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) which it implemented using Matlab (Ver. 2020b) program. The results show that the optimal powers are -4, -5, -5, -4.5, -3.5, -6, and -4.5 dBm for the seven WDM systems, respectively. Further, with a fiber span length of 100 km, the C+L system has the longest transmission reach of 20 span. However, using S+C+L+U system gives the highest bit rate-distance product of 1619 Tbps.km. The O+E+S+C+L+U and T+O+E+S+C+L+U systems are designed with 50 km-span length to reduce the effect of NLI caused by the large numbers of channels (1060 and 1200, respectively).

Abstract:
Abstract Adding a mix of X- or C-band radars to the current Weather Surveillance Radar-1988 Doppler (WSR-88D) network could address several limitations of the network, including improvements to spatial gaps in low-level coverage and temporal sampling of volume scans. These limitations can result in missing critical information in highly dynamic events, such as tornadoes and severe straight-line wind episodes. To evaluate the potential value of a mixed-band radar network for severe weather operations, a case study is examined using data from X- and S-band radars. On 13 May 2009, a thunderstorm complex associated with a cold front moved southward into southwest Oklahoma. A tornado rapidly developed from an embedded supercell within the complex. The life cycle of the tornado and subsequent wind event was sampled by the experimental Collaborative Adaptive Sensing of the Atmosphere (CASA) radar testbed of four X-band radars as well as two operational WSR-88Ds. In this study, the advantages of a mixed-band radar network are demonstrated through a chronological analysis of the event. The two radar networks provided enhanced overall situational awareness. Data from the WSR-88Ds provided 1) clear-air sensitivity, 2) a broad overview of the storm complex, 3) a large maximum unambiguous range, and 4) upper-level scans up to 19.5°. Data from the CASA radars provided 1) high-temporal, 1-min updates; 2) overlapping coverage for dual-Doppler analysis; and 3) dense low-level coverage. The combined system allowed for detailed, dual- and single-Doppler observations of a wind surge, a mesocyclone contraction, and a downburst.

Abstract:
We derive superconducting mean-field equations for an attractive interaction V in the s-wave channel when local Coulomb interactions are taken into account for any value of U. Results show that Coulomb repulsion diminishes the critical temperature Tc to the order parameter Δ(T) for values of U ≥ |V|. Furthermore, the results are also quite sensible to band filling. In the presence of local correlations, 2Δ(0)/Tc differs from the BCS ratio since Coulomb interactions affect much more superconducting critical temperature Tc than superconducting order parameter Δ(T). Some consequences of our findings for experimental measurements in narrow band systems are discussed.

Abstract We theoretically investigate the Andreev reflection of the massive pseudospin-1 Dirac fermions including the +U-type, the −U-type, and the S z -type mass terms, corresponding to the flat band locating at the top, the bottom, and the center of the band gap, respectively. For the ±U-type fermions, it is found that the Andreev reflection probability at the oblique incidence can be even larger than that at the normal incidence. For the retro-reflection, such an oblique enhancement occurs in the n-doped +U-type (p-doped −U-type) massive fermion systems. While for the specular reflection, the enhancement occurs in the n-doped −U-type (p-doped +U-type) systems. For the S z -type massive fermions, an ideal Andreev reflection with all-angle unit efficiency is predicted in an undoped junction with the incident energy equal to the superconducting gap.

Abstract:
Abstract Severe Tropical Storm Maggie crossed Hong Kong, China, in June 1999. The dual-Doppler winds of Maggie captured by the Hong Kong Observatory's (HKO) S-band Doppler weather radar array were studied. The tracks of Maggie's vorticity centers at 1–3-km levels were analyzed and compared with that at the surface as determined from the wind observations of automatic weather stations. The results indicated that the storm had a vertical tilt toward the west to northwest during the transit over Hong Kong. The tracks also deviated significantly from the deep-layer environmental steering flow. The southward movement and vertical tilt could be partly attributed to the easterly vertical shear in the ambient flow. But the terrain of Hong Kong could have also played a significant role in the lowest 1 km of the atmosphere. The tendency of the storm track to avoid mountains was well illustrated and may serve as a useful forecasting guidance indicator for tropical areas with significant terrain. Experimental runs of a nonhydrostatic model at 5-km resolution were able to simulate the broad west-southwestward movement of Maggie and the vertical tilt of the circulation near the center of the tropical cyclone as revealed by the dual-Doppler observations.

Abstract:
A S-band miniaturized circularly polarized microstrip antenna is designed and fabricated. The curved current technique is utilized, and the effective path length of current is increased by loading the U-shaped slot on the radiating patch. Thus the antenna resonant frequency can be tuned and the antenna can be significantly miniaturized. The experimental samples of the antenna are fabricated and tested. The measured results show that the two resonant frequencies of the miniaturized S-band circularly polarized microstrip antenna are 2.17GHz and 2.25GHz, with an impedance bandwidth (S11 <−10 dB) of 152 MHz (from 2.132 GHz to 2.284 GHz). The measured gain is about 0dB. The measured results are basically consistent with the simulation results.

Title Influence of dynamic and static warm-up on muscle strength in climbers. Objective The aim of the thesis is to assess the influence of dynamic warm-up with Thera-Band and static stretching on maximal muscle strength and its time parameters of finger flexors in dominant upper extremity in climbers. Methods Eight active climbers participated in this testing (age 32.4 ± 5.5, body weight 69.4 ± 6.5, height 176 ± 6.4). Actual performance RP was according to the French scale ranging 6b to 8a. Probands' measurements proceeded in three different days. After a specific warm-up on "boulder wall" and static stretching and dynamic warm-up with Thera-Band without stretching, there was maximal muscle strength of fingers flexors on dominant (preferred) upper limb measured by using a specific climbing test on hangboard. The second measurement assessed maximal strength of finger flexors muscle and its time parameters while proceeding of the maximum hand-grip using a hand dynamometer. Results In the experiment, none of the hypotheses came to be confirmed. There was no significant influence of static stretching and dynamic warm-up with Thera-Band on maximal muscle strength of finger flexors and the time parameters in climbers. Conclusion Despite the failure to prove the influence of the static stretching and...

The pattern of inheritance is autosomal dominant and the clinical picture is characterized by mild mucocutaneous bleeding. Laboratory results for affected patients: VIII:C ranged from .62 u/ml to 1.0 u/ml, VWD antigen 2.0 u/ml to 4.75 u/ml, and ristocetin cofactor activity 0.04 u/ml to .32 u/ml. Bleeding times, PT and APTT results were within normal ranges.Multimeric analysis of both citrated plasma and platelet lysates utilizing sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide electrophoresis was characterized by a decrease of the largest oligomers and the individual multimers were abnormal with a single identifiable band. Plasma samples collected in the presence of a variety of inhibitors had no effect on the multi-meric pattern. Intravenous infusion of DDAVP (.3 ug/kg of body weight) resulted in a slight increase in the highest molecular weight oligomers but no change in the ristocetin cofactor activity or individual multimeric patterns.

Abstract:
Platelet α-granules and endothelial cells contain an inhibitor of plasminogen activator, which inhibits both t-PA and u-PA. The inhibitor (PAI-1) is detectable after SDS-PAGE and zymography on fibrin/plasmin-ogen/u-PA detector gels. We have purified endothelial PAI-1 by a simple two-step procedure. Serum-free conditioned medium from human umbilical vein endothelial cells, grown in microcarrier culture, was fractionated on Sephadex CM-50, a cation exchanger, followed by gel filtration on Sephacryl S-200. Aprotinin was included throughout the procedure to maintain the activity of the inhibitor. The PAI-1 was purified 2000-fold with a recovery of about 7%. The purified protein had a specific activity of 8500 U/mg protein and the activity could be stimulated 14-fold by 4M guanidine. The purified PAI-1, of M 48000, was a single-chain glycoprotein. The ptoduct wasapparently homogeneous on a silver-stained SDS-polyacrylamide gel, the protein band co-migrating with PAI activity. Further, a rabbit antiserum raised against the purified PAI-1 revealed only a single band on immunoblots of material from each stage of the purification. The immunoglobulin fraction ofthe antiserum, incorporated into the detector gel for zymographic analysis, neutralised the inhibitor from plasma, platelets and endothelial cells, confirming their identity. Preincubation of PAI-1 from these sources with the immunoglobulin prevented formation of a complex with t-PA or u-PA. This purification procedure, in which no denaturants are employed, provides a homogeneous preparation of PAI-1 that is useful for studies on the stimulatory effects of denaturants. The antiserum raised has allowed the development of a sensitive ELISA, specific for PAI-1.

Abstract:
After treatment with PMA the human promyelocytic HL60 cells were induced to differentiate into a monocyte-macrophage population and to produce a high amount of plasminogen activator in the supernatant. This response was detected from 0,5 ng/ml of PMA and culminated at 5 ng. The plasminogen activator appeared of urokinase-type as showed by fibrinenzymographic analysis : the enzymatic profile of cell supernatant showed 2 lysis band (Mr 33.000 and 55.000) corresponding to those of urokinase of low and high mol. weight. Dexamethasone (100 pM) suppressed the production of this macrophage u-PA without evidence of plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI) generation in the supernatant : free PAI was not detected in urokinase inhibition assays ; complexes of u-PA-PAI were not observed in fibrinoenzymographic studies. Supernatant of human endothelial cells added to HL60 cell supernatant neutralized the two molecular species of macrophage u-PA and gave rise to complexes (Mr 110.000 and 84.000) detected by fibrinoenzymography. These results suggested different possible levels for controlling u-PA of inflammatory macrophages including interaction with endothelial cells secretion since endothelial PAI is increased by some inflammatory monokine and also by dexamethasone, it appears that endothelium could have a regulatory role on inflammatory fibrinolysis.

Abstract:
It has been reported that the tissue factor(TF) of monocytes and leukemic leukocytes is one of the trigger substances of disseminated intravascular coagulation(DIC) in leukemia patients. To assess the properties of TF of leukemia cells, their TF was analyzed by the method of Western blotting. Placenta TF was purified using Concanavalin-A affinity chromatography. Briefly, human placenta TF was extracted from placenta acetone powder using Triton X-100 extraction and purified by Concanavalin-A affinity chromatography and SDS-preparative PAGE. Hie final product of the purified placenta TF-apoprotein exhibited a molecular weight (MW) approximately 46 kD in non-reduced condition and 47 kD in reduced condition and showed single band on analytical SDS-PAGE. Activity of purified placenta apo-TF after relipidation with placenta phospholipid was 4500 units/mg and was 6300 times purified from the starting material. Serum IgG fraction was separated from rabbits after 8 times weekly injections of purified placenta TF. This anti-TF-IgG fraction showed single precipitin line against purified placenta apo-TF and inhibited procoagulant activity of saline extract of the placenta as well as those of homogenates of the endotoxin(LPS)-stimulated Molt-4 cells and U-937 cells. Using this antibody, analysis of TF of cultured leukemia cells(Molt-4 and U-937) and acute promyelocytic leukemia(APL) cells was done by the Western blotting technique as follows: LPS-stimulated Molt-4, U-937 or APL cells were homogenized, delipidated and solubilized with 1% SDS-PAGE. Thereafter, Western blotting was done by the method of Towbin and TF of the blotted protein was immunologically identified. The nitrocellulose paper was soaked with anti-TF-IgG for 18 hours’, then peroxidase-conjugated anti-rabbit-goat IgG was used as an indicator of the antibody and o-dianisidine as substrate. In either case of APL cells, LPS-stimulated Molt-4 or U-937, single band which showed procoagulant activity was detected and the MW of the protein was approximately 48 kD in non-reduced condition. These results indicate that TF of all these leukemic leukocytes has common antigenic determinant and equal MW to placenta TF.

Abstract:
To elucidate the causes of the well known diurnal variations of the fibrinolytic activity we have studied severed parameters of the fibrinolytic system in 8 healthy male volunteers during a period of 24 h. Blood sanples were taken at 8, 10 and 12 a.m., 4 and 8 p.m. and at 8 a.m. next morning. Hie following parameters were analyzed: euglobulin clot lysis time (ECLT), fibrinolytic activity of euglobulins on fibrin plates (FPA), antigen concentrations of tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) by ELISA and of urokinase (u-PA) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) by RIA, the overall PA-inhibitor activity by the indirect chranogenic substrate assay (Verheijen et al; 1984) and the electrophoretic-zymogra-phic analysis of the euglobulins fraction.Global fibrinolytic activity increased from 1.0 ±0.3 U/ml at 8 a.m. to 2.5 ±1.1 U/ml at 8 p.m. (p <0.002) as measured by ECLT (U=300/lysis time in minutes) and from 2.3 ±0.4 IU/ml to 4.7 ±1.1 IU/ml (p <0.001) as determined by FPA. In contrast, t-PA antigen decreased from 5.1 ±0.8 ng/ml at 8 a.m. to 2.9 ±1.5 ng/ml at 8 p.m. (p<0.01) and u-PA antigen from 8.1 ±1.2 ng/ml to 7.1 ±0.7 ng/ml (p<0.05). Most pronounced was the decrease of PAI-1 antigen from 23.5 ± 7.6 ng/ml in the morning to 8.8 ±2.6 ng/ml at 8 p.m. (p <0.001), while PAI activity decreased from 8.8 ±3.6 U/ml to 5.5 ±1.8 U/ml at 4 p.m. (p <0.002). During the entire study period the electro-phoretic-zymographic analysis did not reveal any free t-PA; the latter was present throughout in the form of the 110 kD t-PA/PAI-1 ccnplex. During the day the intensity of the 110 kD band decreased progressively. These findings confirm the physiological diurnal fluctuation of the fibrinolytic activity. All components of the fibrinolytic system are involved in this fluctuation and participate in the modulation of fibrinolytic activity. Our study demonstrates that the diurnal increase of fibrinolytic activity is due principally to a marked decline of the PAI-1 concentration during the day and not to an increase of PA antigen levels.

Abstract:
The propositus, female aged 1 year, was investigated because of severe bruising. Bleeding time (BT) was in excess of 20 mins, VIIIC <0.01 u/ml and vWF Ag and ristocetin cofactor absent. Family studies showed:-Multimeric analysis was not possible on the propositus, but was normal in the plasma of all other family members. The father of the propositus, however, had an abnormal multimer pattern on lysed platelets, in that the faint low molecular weight doublet is absent and a dense band in the position of the lower band of the doublet with anodal and cathodal trailing. The maternal grandmother and mother appear to have asynpto-matic type I vWD and the father possibly has asymptomatic type I together with an alteration in the biologically vWF site with loss of the ristocetin site. This abnormality is not seen in his parents and his daughter possibly has type III vWD. The propositus' father although having some similarities to the patient of Howard et al., is different in other aspects.1. Howard MA, Salem HH. et al. Abstract:
A hybrid human cDNA was constructed by ligation of a cDNA fragment of tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA), encoding 5∲-untranslated, the pre-pro region and amino acids Ser 1 through Thr 263, with a cDNA fragment of urokinase-type plasminogen activator (u-PA), encoding amino acids Leu 144 through Leu 411. The hybrid cDNA was expressed in Chinese Hamster Ovary Cells and the translation product purified from the conditioned cell culture media in the presence of aprotinin. On SDS-gel electrophoresis under reducing conditions, the protein migrated as a single band with approximate Mr 70,000 and on immunoblot-ting, it reacted with rabbit antisera raised against human t-PA and against human u-PA. The urokinase-like amidolytic activity (S-2444) of the protein’ was 320 IU/mg but increased to 43,000 IU/mg after treatment with plasmin, which resulted in conversion of the single chain molecule (t-PA/scu-PA) to a two-chain molecule (t-PA/tcu-PA).Both proteins activated plasminogen directly with Michaelis constant (Km) 1.5 μM and catalytic rate constant (km2) 0.0058 s-1 for t-PA/scu-PA and with K = 80 μM and = 5.6 s-1 for t-PA/tcu-PA. CBNr-digested fibrinogen stimulated the activation rate of plasminogen with t-PA/tcu-PA (increase of k2/Km of 88-fold).Both t-PA/scu-PA and t-PA/tcu-PA bound specifically to fibrin albeit ^np$re weakly than t-PA. In an in vitro system composed of a human I-fibrin labeled plasma clot immersed in human plasma, the t-PA/tcu-PA hybrid has a higher fibrin-selectivity of clot lysis than tcu-PA, but this difference was not evident between t-PA/scu-PA and scu-PA. The stability of the t-PA/scu-PA hybrid in plasma was much higher than that of the t-PA/tcu-PA hybrid, a difference comparable to that between scu-PA and tcu-PA.It is concluded that these t-PA/u-PA hybrid proteins combine fibrin-affinity of t-PA with the enzymatic properties of u-PA (either scu-PA or tcu-PA), resulting in improved fibrin-mediated plasminogen activation.

Abstract:
Von Willebrand Factor (vWF) circulates in plasma as a series of multimers with moleculag weight ranging from M = 0.44 x 106 up to more than 20 x 106 . Besides the mediation of platelet adhesion to exposed subendothelium, the protein plays an important role in the stabilization and the transport of Factor VIIIC (FVIIIC). In the present study the interaction between FVIIIC and vWF was studied by recombination experiments. vWF was isolated from cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells by immunoprécipitation. This source of vWF ascertained, that it was free of FVIIIC as indicated by the absence of FVIIIC activity as well as FVIIIC antigen. FVIIIC was prepared by immunoabsorption from human plasma yielding an activity of 1600 IJ/mg. SDS-PAGE analysis showed two main bands at Mr= 0.28 x 106 and 0.18 x 106 , respectively. vWF-multimers were separated by SDS agarose gel electrophoresis and were electrophoretically transferred onto nitrocellulose sheets. After extensive washing, the sheets were incubated for 12 h with 20 U/ml FVIIIC in PBS, pH 7.4, containing 2.5 mM calcium chloride. Subsequently, associated FVIIIC was detected by autoradiography with a 125-I-labelled monoclonal mouse anti-(human FVIIIC) antibody. The results of recombination experiments exclusively showed prominent staining of the Mr= 0.44 x 106 vWF band in the autoradiography. However, proteolytically degraded FVIIIC with partly retained procoagulant activity did not show a positive stain. The results indicate that an intact FVIIIC molecule and the smallest multimer of vWF are required for the formation of a stable FVIII/vWF complex.

Abstract:
Tropidechis carinatus is a venomous elapid snake distributed throughout Eastern Queensland. It has been considered as a tropical relative of Notechis scutatus and, similarly, the crude venom contains an indirect prothrombin activator, which will clot plasma provided that Factor V is present. Myotoxins and neurotoxins are also present. Envenomated patients regularly develop disseminated intravascular coagulation. The crude whole venom of T.carinatus was shown to have five major components by gel filtration, SDS PAGE and HPLC, and even more components by isoelectric focusing. The procoagulant eluted with a molecular weight of 55,000, being found in peak II on gel filtration on Sephadex-G150. The procoagulant was purified using a combination of Sephadex-G150 chromatography and ion-exchange on DEAE Sephadex-A50 and shown to migrate as a single band of molecular weight 55.000 by SDS PAGE. On reduction by β -mercaptoethanol this component was resolvec into u heavy chain of molecular weight 30.000 and a light chain of 25,000. The procoagulant was shown to bind to con A-Sepharose 4B and Blue Sepharose 4B. Coagulation studies using this purified procoagulant confirmed a factor Xa-like activity activating prothrombin in the presence of factor V. The purified fraction is unstable in buffer solutions at 4°C, probably because of trypsin - like autodigestion. Ouchterlony studies of the procoagulants of T.carinatus and N.scutatus show both lines of homogeneity and spurring, indicating similarities but also significant differences between the two proteins. The purified procoagulant was lethal to adult rats, an IV injection of 10 μg killing in 1 - 2 minutes. Death was prevented by prior heparinization, suggesting that the procoagulant is toxic in the absence of neurotoxin and other components.
