Abstract:
We consider communication between two parties using a bipartite quantum operation, which constitutes the most general quantum mechanical model of two-party communication. We primarily focus on the simultaneous forward and backward communication of classical messages. For the case in which the two parties share unlimited prior entanglement, we give inner and outer bounds on the achievable rate region that generalize classical results due to Shannon. In particular, using a protocol of Bennett, Harrow, Leung, and Smolin, we give a one-shot expression in terms of the Holevo information for the entanglement-assisted one-way capacity of a two-way quantum channel. As applications, we rederive two known additivity results for one-way channel capacities: the entanglement-assisted capacity of a general one-way channel, and the unassisted capacity of an entanglement-breaking one-way channel.

Abstract:
Modern wireless networks use cooperative relaying to expand its coverage area. Wireless relaying allows mobile terminals toparticipate in transmission even when these terminals are not being the initial source or final destination. This can be achieved in differentways ranging from simple conventional relaying to more sophisticated coding at terminal and relay nodes to improve transmissionperformance. The proposed work here studied such system by simulating different coding techniques to be used in two way relay networkcoding (TWRC). Some of these techniques were previously proposed to improve transmission performance in conventional datacommunication systems. BER performance of different arrangements of coding and relaying schemes are evaluated using computersimulation tests. Ideal AWGN channel model and standard wireless channel models for wireless networks are considered in the simulationtests. The results have been shown that coding schemes such as Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM) and Repeat Accumulate (RA) codes aremore suitable in two way relaying networks. Over AWGN, TCM-8PSK improves BER performance by at least 2 dB at high SNR fordifferent relaying arrangements. For fading channels, this advantage is slightly reduced. Regenerative repeating at relay node seems to be apromising arrangement. It seems that there is no sense in using RA codes over fading channels due to its poor performance and relativelylower speed caused by repetitions.

The original two-way continuous-variable quantum-key-distribution (CV-QKD) protocols [S. Pirandola, S. Mancini, S. Lloyd and S. L. Braunstein, Nat. Phys. 4 (2008) 726] give the security against the collective attack on the condition of the tomography of the quantum channels. We propose a family of new two-way CV-QKD protocols and prove their security against collective entangling cloner attacks without the tomography of the quantum channels. The simulation result indicates that the new protocols maintain the same advantage as the original two-way protocols whose tolerable excess noise surpasses that of the one-way CV-QKD protocol. We also show that all sub-protocols within the family have higher secret key rate and much longer transmission distance than the one-way CV-QKD protocol for the noisy channel.

The work interests in the two-way opportunistic relaying (TWOR) system in which the analog network coding (ANC) employed. For the TWOR-ANC, we first present the traditional max-min best relay selection scheme as well as the corresponding closed-form analytical expressions for the cumulative distribution function (CDF) and the probability density function (PDF) of the end-to-end SNR. Then, to simplify the analysis of system performance, by using the approximation of the modified Bessel function of the second kind, , we obtain the performance bounds of the TWOR-ANC system. The analytical results show that e-z/z determines the lower bound of system performance, and the exact solution of system performance is very close to the lower bound in low SNRs. At the same time, 1/z does the upper bound, and the exact solution is very close to the upper bound in high SNRs. Thus, in high SNRs or lower SNRs, the system performance can be measured approximately by the upper bound or lower bound.

We consider a two-way communication assisted by parallel regenerative decode-and-forward relays operating in orthogonal channels. In a system with limited channel state information at each source and relay node, an optimum distributed power allocation strategy is proposed to minimize the total transmit power, providing a target signal-to-noise ratio at each destination with a target outage probability. Moreover, combined with opportunistic relaying and network coding, a distributed decision mechanism is proposed for the relay node to decide whether to help the transmission or not. In this proposal, each source works out the transmit power and the decision threshold then broadcasts them. The selected relay compares the decision threshold with the channel gain of its weaker relay-to-destination link, then determines whether to forward the networkcoded data or not. Simulation results show the advantage of this strategy in terms of energy efficiency for a two-hop two-way communication scenario. The proposed strategy is very flexible as it can trade outage to power consumption and vice versa.

We study the problem of communicating over a discrete memoryless two-way channel using non-adaptive schemes, under a zero probability of error criterion. We derive single-letter inner and outer bounds for the zero-error capacity region, based on random coding, linear programming, linear codes, and the asymptotic spectrum of graphs. Among others, we provide a single-letter outer bound based on a combination of Shannon’s vanishing-error capacity region and a two-way analogue of the linear programming bound for point-to-point channels, which, in contrast to the one-way case, is generally better than both. Moreover, we establish an outer bound for the zero-error capacity region of a two-way channel via the asymptotic spectrum of graphs, and show that this bound can be achieved in certain cases.

Abstract:
In this paper, the optimization of downlink beamforming vectors, uplink transmission power, and power-splitting factors is investigated for a secure two-way SWIPT network in the presence of a hidden eavesdropper and non-linear energy harvesting circuits over both perfect and imperfect channels. The eavesdropper is inactive, so its channel information is not available at the base stations (BSs). The purpose of artificial noise is to create downlink interference with the hidden eavesdropper as much as possible, while satisfying the quality of service for two-way communications. For perfect downlink channels, the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) technique is exploited, and the optimal matrices are proven to satisfy rank-1 conditions, thus providing the optimal beamforming vectors. For imperfect downlink channel state information, we propose an iterative algorithm with a penalty function to obtain the approximate rank-1 matrices. On uplink, we attain the optimal transmission power for users receiving maximum ratio transmission beamforming at the BSs. Eventually, the numerical experiments show the superiority of the proposed scheme, compared to a conventional scheme, in terms of signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio at the eavesdropper.

Two main classes of channels are studied as informational sources of financial contagion. One is a fundamental channel that is based on real and financial links between economies, and the second is a social learning channel that arises when agents base their decisions on noisy observations about the actions of others in foreign markets. Using global games, I present a two‐country model of financial contagion in which both channels can operate and I test its predictions experimentally. The experimental results show that subjects do not extract information optimally, which leads to two systematic biases that affect these channels directly. Base‐rate neglect leads subjects to underweight their prior, and thus weakens the fundamental channel. An overreaction bias strengthens the social learning channel, since subjects rely on information about the behavior of others, even when this information is irrelevant. These results have significant welfare effects rooted in the specific way in which these biases alter behavior.

Flow in rough steep open channels is mostly found in mountain streams and in flow overtopping protected weirs. In both cases, the energy of the flowing stream may be dissipated by artificial means so that the flowing water does not result in serious damage due to scour or erosion downstream of the main slope. The best way of achieving this purpose is to lead the flow over a series of steps. In this investigation, the author tried to determine the form drag of stepped steep open channels, considering the steps as two-dimensional triangular roughness elements.
