Full textWe have watched the transition from analog TV to digital TV around the world in the last two decades, with the establishment of international systems, as ATSC, DVB and ISDB. At the end of 2007, the Brazilian Digital Television System (SBTVD) was released for commercial purposes in São Paulo City. SBTVD brings significant innovations, from which we emphasize interactivity, that is offered by some data transmission mechanisms. This work aims to investigate the current mechanisms for implementing the interactivity in the Brazilian Digital TV. In order to reach this aim, it\'s proposed a modular platform for tests with interactivity in the Brazilian digital TV. The three modules of that platform are based on the three stages of the interactive TV System: transport stream generation containing an interactive application, treatment of the application in the receiver, and returning of user\'s interaction through the interactivity channel. Experiments are released on the first module, considering the digital TV signals available in São Paulo in January, 2008. This work has two main conclusions: the result of these experiments and the initial propose of a platform for tests execution and evaluation which allow us to have a better understanding and a more efficient use of the interactive resources offered by SBTVD.

De senaste åren har utbudet av TV-kanaler ökat och det är idag vanligt att man har tillgång till så pass många kanaler att det är svårt att överblicka dem på ett enkelt sätt. Det finns olika tekniker för att sortera fram önskvärd information till användaren, men ingen design är anpassad varken för att hantera den nya förbättrade upplösningen eller de nya intelligenta funktionerna. Detta arbete har formulerats för att få fram ett exempel på hur den förbättrade upplösningen kan utnyttjas i programguiden samt för att få ett gränssnitt mot de intelligenta funktionerna. Egenskaper för programguiden togs fram som stöd för de inledanden pappersskisserna, varefter en välgrundad och detaljerad datordesign gjordes. En implementation i skalbar vektorgrafik (SVG) gjordes i den slutgiltiga prototypen för att demonstrera animationer och användbarhet. Avslutningsvis diskuteras lärdomarna som kan tas från detta arbete.
The number of available TV channels has increased the last couple of years and it is hard to get a good overview in a simple way. There are different techniques for sorting the information so that the user gets the required information, but no design is adapted neither to handle the new improved resolution nor the new intelligent functions. This thesis has been developed to get an example on how the new improved resolution can be used in the program guide and to get an interface with the intelligent functions. Desirable qualities for the program guide were stated for the sketching phase of the design, and the sketches were subsequently used as outlines for the computer-based design of the program guide. An implementation in scalable vector graphics (SVG) was made in a final prototype to demonstrate animations and usability. Finally there is a discussion about the contributions from this thesis.

Full textNowadays, digital TV systems are a reality in many countries and in Brazil the research in this field is reaching an advanced stage. Much excitement is expected from this technology, which may offer a wide variety of multimedia services, opening the doors for creative proposals and new possibilities of relationships with the final user. This complexity and the new options of services that can be offered demand a suitable architecture for management, which should be able to control and optimize the set-top boxes of this network as well as of the services offered by it. In this work, the requirements for the building of a generic management system for the digital TV environment are presented, based in the study of similar research and considering the specifics involved. Besides that, a hybrid architecture based on open standards is proposed for the solution of this problem. In this architecture, it is adopted the classical manager-agent model, through the use of a management server, which is responsible for the storage and analysis of all the management data as well for the triggering of commands and receptions of answers and traps sent by the agents. The conception and design of this architecture has followed as much as possible, classic principles of network management. With this approach, it was possible to find a simple solution to a very complex problem.

Full textLorsque l’on développe des applications HTML5 pour des plateformes TV, les plateformes TV fournissent,en plus de la fonctionnalité standard d'HTML5, des APIs supplémentaires pour les particularités d'une TV.Ces APIs supplémentaires diffèrent entre les plateformes TV, et ceci cause un problème lors dudéveloppement d’une application pour plusieurs plateformes. Cette thèse a fait l’examen de la possibilité deconcevoir un cadre d'applications qui fournit au concepteur une API qui peut servir à plusieurs plateformes,cachant le code spécifique de celles-ci. La réponse est oui. On a réussi à harmoniser : l’entrée de latélécommande, le lecteur vidéos, le volume, la connexion Internet, le flux TV et leurs données GPE, dans uneAPI qui réside dans une bibliothèque JavaScript. En outre, un système de compilation met le code d’unemanière dont la plateforme peut comprendre. Le cadre d'applications facilite le développement d'applicationsHTML5 des plateformes TV. Pour le moment, le cadre d'applications peut supporter la Pace, le PC et laplateforme de Samsung Smart TV, mais il peut également fonctionner avec d'autres plateformes TV.
Wenn man HTML5-Anwendungen für TV-Plattformen entwickelt, stellen die Plattformen neben denStandardfunktionalitäten von HTML5 auch extra APIs für TV spezifische Features zur verfügung. Diesezuzätzlichen APIs unterscheiden zwischen TV-Plattformen und das ist ein Problem bei der Entwicklung vonAnwendungen, die auf mehreren Plattformen laufen sollen. Diese These untersucht, ob es möglich ist, einFramework zu entwerfen, dass dem Entwickler eine API bereitstellt, welche für mehrere Plattformenfunktioniert, indem deren Plattform spezifischer Code verpackt wird. Die Antwort ist ja. Das Frameworkharmonisiert: Fernbedienungeingabe, Video, Volumen, Internet-Anschlussstatus, Fensehkanalstreams undelektronische Programmführer, zu einer gemeinsamen JavaScript-Bibliothek-API. Quando si sviluppano delle applicazioni HTML5 per le piattaforme TV, quest'ustime offrono, oltre allafunzionalità comune di HTML5, anche APIs addizionali per funzionalità specifiche della TV. Queste APIsaddizionali differiscono tra le varie piattaforme TV e questo è un problema quando si sviluppaun'applicazione che funzioni per ciascuna piattaforma. Il presente lavoro esamina la possibilità di progettareun framework che fornisca allo sviluppatore una sola API, la quale sia funzionante per molte piattaforme esia idonea a nascondere il codice specifico di ciascuna di esse. La risposta è sì. Il framework fonde:l'immissione del telecomando, il video, il volume, lo stato della connessione Internet, i flussi dei canali TV edei dati della guida elettronica dei programmi, all'interno di una API secondo il modello di una libreriaJavaScript. Inoltre, il sistema di compilazione crea un pacchetto del codice nel modo in cui le piattaforme siaspettano. Il framework facilita lo sviluppo di applicazioni HTML5 per le piattaforme TV. Al momento, ilframework sostiene le seguenti piatteforme: Pace, PC e Samsung Smart TV, ma può essere esteso anche adaltre.
När man utvecklar HTML5-applikationer för TV-plattformar, finns utöver HTML5s standardfunktionalitet,även extra APIer för att komma åt TV-specifika funktioner. Dessa extra APIer skiljer sig åt mellan TV-plattformar, och det är ett problem när man utvecklar en applikation för många plattformar. Dettaexamensarbete har undersökt om det är möjligt att designa ett ramverk som förser utvecklaren med ett APIsom fungerar för många plattformar genom att wrappa deras plattformsspecifika kod. Svaret är ja. Ramverketharmoniserar: fjärrkontrollsindata, video, volym, internetförbindelse, TV-kanalströmmar och deras TV-tablåer, till ett gemensamt JavaScript-bibliotek-API. Vidare paketerar ett byggsystem koden på de sätt somplattformarna förväntar sig. Ramverket underlättar utveckling av HTML5-applikationer för TV-plattformar.För tillfället stöder ramverket plattformarna: Pace, PC och Samsung Smart TV, men det kan breddas med flerTV-plattformar.

Full textThe market for digital TV is developing and some industry actors focus on interactive TV. Interactive content and services that previously only were able to use through a standard PC are now available to use through the TV set. To distribute the services to the TV a so called set top box with broadband connection needs to be used. Such a box can be described as a unit where a standard PC and a digital TV receptor are integrated.
This thesis aims to investigate the market for electronic payment solutions with a focus on payment for interactive content and services in digital TV. The presumptive services are many which lead to a relative complex analysis of how they should be paid for. What kind of service is it really to be paid for?
In order to conduct an appropriate analysis this thesis contains an identification of five different service-/content types. The grouping we have conducted is in so called On Demand services, Voice over IP, Shopping, Interactive TV and web services. In order to be able to conduct a relevant assessment of how the distributed services should be paid for the understanding of the market situation is utterly important. Therefore the thesis contains a pre study of the different market actors that can be related to a set top box and interactive TV.
The study of eight different actors on the Swedish market provides an overview of content providers’ as well as payment companies’ view on how interactive content and services should be paid for. The result from the thesis is a recommendation on how an electronic payment solution should be designed and important aspects to think of. One of the key outcomes is that different services needs different types of payment solutions which implies that you should first decide on what type of services that are to be provided before a decision is made on the payment solution.
A byproduct from the thesis is the analysis model that facilitates analysis of services as well as payment solutions and - methods related to electronic payments and interactive media.
