In the thesis, we study the luminance management of LCD backlights based on LED lighting. First, we study the characteristics of the LCD and the backlight module. Then we study LEDs in different colors. The third step is to calculate the required total flux of the backlight module based on photometry theory, and thus we calculate the numbers of the light source. Finally, we simulate the uniformity of the backlight module with precise LED model. Based on the luminance management of the LCD backlight, we fabricate two LED backlight module. One is 28’’ LCD TV with white-light LEDs, and the other is 42’’ LCD TV with RGB LEDs. The performance of both panels are presented and analyzed.

ABSTRACT In the carbon reduction of environmental consensus, unlike the traditional backlighting elements (such as CCFL), the lower power consumption of the LED has become a new generation of LCD TV backlight trend. Compared to the application of monitor, TV as a larger size, they need more strings of the LED backlight modules to achieve the required brightness of the LED control and on it’s multi-serial LED strings. The first problem is the current imbalances will be encountered among LED strings. The imbalance will cause the serial current uneven brightness, and thus the image quality. How to reach a balance under the given cost and getting the current balance among the LED strings, will be a challenge to for LED driver designers. Conventional AC load multiple drivers [ such as CCFL, EEFL ( External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp ), etc. ] often connected passive components in each group sharing the loads among AC power input, so one can achieve multiple AC load flow with current balance. This thesis proposes a lower power loss and cheaper method LED driver module for a typical 60” LED TV. For balancing the multiple LED strings, the LCD-TV LED driver circuit prototype design with passive components used in the DC load current connection. In addition, the circuit outputs data and waveforms were also measured. The AC power connecting with a rectifier can provide the DC power for the DC loads. By the connection of passive components, it will get the current balance among the DC loads. This thesis uses a LLC resonant converter design integrated with "A power supply with a H- balance LED driver for the multiple DC loads." The main purpose of the new power module for LED driver is to provide a cheaper and also efficient power supply circuit for current balance. Different from the traditional with linear structure, the new design can have current balance in each group of DC loads and the same brightness, the lower power consumption and high efficiency. The new design has relatively few components and low complexity, and substantial cost savings. With the actual measurements, we will measure and evaluate the performance of the new LED driver design with current balance circuits.

Traditional analog TV broadcasting can be snowy, with ghost image and only broadcast standard definition program. While digital TV broadcasting can not only improve the picture and sound quality of the received signal but also provide high definition program with fantastic viewing experience. ISDB is the digital TV broadcasting system in Japan which can provide flexibility, expandability and commonality for multimedia broadcasting services. The main objective of this thesis is to study the systematic hardware and software TV system design, verification method and quality testing plan. Systematic design method can effectively reduce the system cost and shorten design cycle to enhance the product competitiveness and keep the product marketing timing. Well organized verification method and quality testing plan are the essential elements to ensure product quality in the market.

A LED matrix driving circuit for use in lighting and back-lighting statues is proposed. Minimum distance from power dissipation curve is adopted to determine optimal operating voltage and current, which give an optimal combination of LEDs. A transconductance amplifier is employed as a constant current source with voltage control. It ensures a constant current to drive LEDs without disturbance due to the forward voltage VF and voltage source. In addition to design consideration in components evaluation, a design example with easy three-wire connection for LED arrangement is explored. The experimental result is close to the theoretical predictions.

Due to the worldwide adoption to digital television, many home appliance vendors are investing in liquid-crystal-display television (LCD TV). With the phenomenal potential for the LCD TV market, non-traditional TV vendors are also stepping in. Although there are various ways to view digital content such as set-top box, digital download and others, most consumers choose to buy LCD TV because of its price, price-on-performance and others. This thesis is to prove why people (buyers and sellers) prefer LCD TV over other technologies and how the global market is reacting to this adoption. By using brainstorming and Porter’s five force analysis, different aspects were considered such as current TV market by vendors and regions, other TV technologies, market drivers, competitive rivals and threats of suppliers, buyers, substitutes and potential entrances. This study considered SWOT and Blue-Ocean Strategy as the foundation of theory. Between LCD TV and PDP TV industries, to use the secondary materials to analyze the developmental profile and characteristics, the supply-demand situation in marketing sales, the variation about ASP and revenue. Furthermore, according to the future tendency and the related theory to conclude suggestions for markers. The results indicated that: (1) Although LCD TV can’t be brighten by itself, and the picture quality must still be improved continuously, it will be the main stream in the TV criterion because its「Intensive Circulation of Competition」. (2) For PDP TV, it will try to be achieved to prevent the penetration in large size of LCD TV through the strength of the cost and technology in PDP. (3) Blue-Ocean Strategy in LCD TV is defined as: 「To enhance the criteria and reduce R&D cost through the scale economy and the complete vertical integration. To reinforce the management in the inventory to prevent the ASP decline. Furthermore, to apply the product in the widespread domain.」(4) Blue-Ocean Strategy in PDP TV is defined as: 「To strengthen the advantage of large size design and reduce the cost continuously. To enhance the ability of mass production then to achieve the scale economy for the further low cost.

Modern LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) technology, whether it is large, medium and small size, is still need a backlight. Nowadays, the mainstream of backlight source is LED backlighting instead of the cold cathode fluorescent (CCFL) backlighting, and used by most other LCDs for the benefit of light weight, thin, power-saving. Two main models of LED backlighting may be used: Edge-lit LEDs and LED backlighting (Full array). Edge-lit LEDs has the advantage of better light weight, thin and narrow border design, so the edge-type LED backlight has been widely used in LCD TV. However, heat dissipation problem is still the LED backlight design to be overcome and should be paid attention. The general design methodology of the LED cooling modules uses simulation and experiments to test for product analysis and forecasting the temperature distribution of the LED module can reduce the risk of product production error. This study focuses on the 32 "LCD TV backlit design to the LED light source cooling module thermal analysis and simulation. The simulation and experimental results shown that the influencing factors of LED heat dissipation related to the size of the heat sink and the LED input power. This study provides thermal analysis and simulation process for LED-backlit LCD and proposes a better heat sink size and input power consideration.

This application study is studies the design which probe into digit TV and realizes with a miniaturization, video image process system of digitization. The digital TV is it have a history of more than 20 years already so far to develop ( whether first digital television was completed and produced in 1983 at West Germany television factory, ITT of Company ), and the preceding ten years ago products for the research or the high-order market. And, it is it utilize five piece it is Very Large Scale Integrated ( VLSI ) and two pieces of peripheral integrated circuit ( when pulse generator and power amplifier ) finish. Now, the progress that liquid crystal display and research of the integrated circuit innovate and producing the manufacturing technology, with the digit content ( digit propagates the program ), under information service and multimedia fast development, how to present the content of the above in showing the device and can accord with people now to the high request for showing the device ( low consume energy , slimming , carrying , high color , high light , low radiation ,etc. ). The liquid crystal display cooperates with the solution of the very large scale integrated circuit to accord with the demand of the above even more. Since this application study utilizes a Flat Panel Display ( FPD ) and an very large scale integrated video-image-processor that height combines to deal with the integrated circuit, cooperate in some peripheral circuit to study the system and structure which probe into the digitization display.

In the numerous liquid crystal product design, the neck design is very important. It will affect television''s balance, the unstable balanced design easy to create liquid crystal''s falling and to cause the product broken or falls to make consumer being injured. The major part of neck designs are use die casting, mainstream is light and thin design, so this article will to use punch method to manufacture neck to replace die casting method. This study is mainly using “finite element method” to simulate different strengthens form design and process in Modal analysis and Transient analysis. The result of research showed that from the transient analysis simulation and use of applied 20N force on LCD TV. Type3 is better than Type1 and Type2,it can effectively reduce time and improve the vibration attenuation phenomenon.

With the maturity of optoelectronic display technology, LCD TV has got a lot more affordable and become a favorite choice for households. According to DisplaySearch’s forecast in 2006, the compound growth rate of global LCD TV shipment will be the fastest growing among all LCD products.Therefore, This research explores Using an empirical approach, a questionnaire was designed to collect such information as consumers’ lifestyle and level of involvement. Factor analysis, independent samples T test, one-way ANOVA, multiple regression analysis, and canonical correlation analysis were then used to analyze consumers’ preference for LCD TVs with different properties. Data collection and analysis results revealed that demographic variables present partial significance towards lifestyle and product attribute factors although there was no significance in regard to involvement. On the other hand, lifestyle and involvement present noticeable significance towards product attributes. The research shows that consumers from the electronics and information industries are more aware of product attributes, followed by those from the service industry. They tend to be attracted by products with unique functions, appearance and taste. Compared to married people, those who are single are significantly more attentive to the product attributes they plan to purchase. People with high school or lower education showed more signs of a “show off” type of personality. The data also revealed that elevating any product attribute can have a significant influence on consumers’ lifestyles and involvement. That is to say, factor changes in every aspect influence the relevance in regard to other aspects. It can be concluded from the above analysis that Lifestyle and involvement are important factors for evaluating how product attributes influence the purchase decision. Therefore, lifestyles and involvement are effective approaches for composing marketing strategies for LED televisions. The result of the analysis can help manufacturers to form a better understanding of consumers’ preference and serve as inspiration for developing new concepts and adjusting marketing strategies to encourage purchase.

The heat dissipation technique of LCD-TV is always a subject with continuous research and development needs. It is particularly important toimprove existing methods of heat dissipation and develop new techniquesin the face of improve electronic circuitry efficiencies. In this regard, theobjective of the present thesis is to investigate and discuss the appropriateanalysis of thermal problem in LCD-TV for the purpose of understandinghow and under what conditions heat dissipation occur, in order to achieveimprovements in current heat dissipation techniques, and to attain idealoperating temperature and internal systems heat control. We began our study by thermal experiments and used the FLOTHERM V6.1 simulation software to provide a basic internal LCD-TV systemthermal analysis. Results of experiments and simulations were used toanalyze current and systems heat flows, which served as the basis for ourrecommendations to improve existing heat dissipation techniques. Making comparisons between the experiments and simulations analysis, we have arrived at the following conclusions and recommendations. (1) The heat disipation under the environment of the natural convection, radiation is an very important parameter that can not be neglected. (2) The proper increase the size of open ratio appropriately, could obvious improve the heat dissipation of the system. (3) Only increase the emissivity of heat-sink can improve the temperature of the chip on the main-board effectively. (4) There is very great improvement to the heat dissipation of the system to put the heat source in the appropriate position.

In the TV industry, the market scale is about 150 million, and be forecasted to 200 million in 2010. In the past 30 years, CRT rules the market. But recently, the FPD technology, like TFT-LCD`PDP, shows the great potential to replace the CRT TV market. Surely, Taiwan firms would not miss the big chance of TV replacement. Taiwan firms have some advantage in this market. First, Taiwan was one of the biggest bases of operations in CRT TV at 1970’s. Second, Taiwan has the panel resource, which is the key component of LCD TV. Besides, the ability of producting monitor and cost down make Taiwan’s firms more confidence. Nevertheless, there already have many competitiors, like Sony`Phillips, and Samsung, etc. They do know how to produce a right TV and send it to the right customer. In other words, those international big companies can master the characteristics of TV precisely. In the meanwhile, that is the weakness of Taiwan’s firms. This study use five force model developed by Michael E. Porter as the frame of whole study. Also, what this study be interested in is the different situation that different kinds of firm in Taiwan would face when they enter TV market. This study finally gets four conclusions. First, TFT-LCD will be the major standards in TV industry, but would be forced to share the market in large scale (over 40 or 50 inches) TV with PDP and RP TV.Second, for OEM/ODM firms, Japan’s company would not release their order easily. If Taiwan’s firm can’t provide well solution about cost/technology/location, the business model of LCD TV may as same as the period of CRT TV. Also, for the own brand firms, it’s hard for them to handle the characteristics, like picture quality, channels, and brand loyalty, in the mainstream TV market. But, those kinds of firm have big potential for the「second TV market」because their IT background is more suitable for that market. Finally, CE firms can keep their advantage in domestic market but so tough in the global. TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display) is one of the technologies used for current multimedia Flat Panel Displays, which has been applied in various applications, especially in the filed of monitor. New applications, technologies and better performance are the basic requirements of the industry to meet the future market demand and cost. TFT-LCD is therefore considered to be the star in the flat panel display industry. It is worth noting that the scale of TFT-LCD manufacture chain in Taiwan is of competitiveness comparied with those of Korean and Japan. Larger in display size, more flatter, thinner, wider, lighter and more clearer are what consumer expected in future for TV product which is also expected to be hung on the wall. For better resolution, new technologies have been applied to reduce the phenomena of picture saw-edge, blurring or distortion. Otherwise, color temperature is another key factor that affects the performance of display. A suitable adjustment of color temperature is critical to exhibit the picture quality of LCD TV. Various display resolutions and screen sizes have been considered in the new TFT LCD applications due to the trend of multifunction. The display size had been developed from 4:3 to current 16:9 to show better performance on HD signal and color saturation has been improved from 72% to 90%. Also better performances on the response time and viewing angles are evident. The overall size is also one of the main developments for TFT LCD. The overall size can be made smaller and thinner due to the usage of light tube or LED as backlight. The color temperature was analyzed and discussed in this study. It was found that even under different input signal sources, better performance in brightness and color temperature could be achieved for LCD TV by giving optimal parameter settings for the software and video-information decoder used.

In the age of information and communication, the displays play an important role. LCD (Liquid-Crystal Display) monitor is the most common one. Consequently, LCD monitors are striven by many famous companies to improve the quality and efficiency as well as to solve the problems on both brightness and uniformity. This thesis is about how to design a significant LCD Backlight Module in order to improve the luminescent efficiency and allow the brightness not to vary on the screen of a monitor. We use the computer to simulate many special structures and analyze the record in order to know whether our goal has been reached. Our ideal is to create a new effective LCD Backlight Module which can not only decrease the cost of it, but also can increase the level of its luminescent efficiency and uniformity.

Abstract The purpose of this thesis is to discuss design of LCD-TV power supply. And utilize a method of integrated to combined main power and backlight unit. We called the LIPS (LCD-TV Integrated Power Supply) in power field. Base on this method that we can reduce the cost. And design and implement a LCD-TV power supply of 32 inch. We have two parts regarding this power supply. The main power (5V/0.3A &; 12V/2.3A &; 36V/0.7A) and LED driver. The construction of main power source will be fly back as primary application. As for back light of LED driver will be designed and based on booster construction. Finally, I will use waveform measurement of actual diagram to prove verify this theory. TV is a major entertainment center at home; moreover, the information of TV program influences everyone’s daily life. It is one of the researching topics, how enable TV using, having good reliability, and having better picture quality, now. Based on European standard, in this paper, we propose the layer structure and modulo method to design the LCD TV system. Moreover, our method includes a novel tiny kernel, Simply TV Embedded Operation System briefly denoted by STVEOS which can effectively manage various inputs of the audio-video system and support commands of user requirements. These layer structure and modulo design can meet the compatibility requirements for different platforms. Moreover, our method not only can easily support an API layer to port firmware code but also can improve the code re-usable capability. STVEOS can work at 8051 chip with micro-controller. Our proposed kernel executes the different states by regularly triggered mechanism to finish its control processes. When there is a requirement of the new input source, this kernel can easily extend the new state machine of this extra input without affecting other inputs. Therefore, our kernel has good extensibility. In order to make TV more users humanized, we also propose an auto-scan algorithm for tuner input, which can automatically search and discern the TV channel without setting image format. Furthermore, the π-type low-pass filter can reduce the impact of high frequency noise in our system to improve the picture quality. Finally, we implement a 15” LCD TV with European specification to verify our proposed results. Meanwhile, this system also passes the QA tests, he performance check, monkey test, system stability test, China frequency acceptance test, etc., of LCD TV and China area.

LED backlight driver IC design based on PWM driver circuit can conduct to control the lighting level. Using PWM method, the output intensity can be adjusted under various duty cycles in the output. The control interface is composed of digital signal processing circuit by digital control circuit and comparator, to determine the duty cycle value and to control the LED driving power. In this study, we develop three LED driving chips. First, the digital-based PWM diver is designed with MOS techniques, which can drive 1w LED device. Second, the study is for SPI type LED driver for four independent channels. Each channel can be controlled through SPI interface. The driver IC can use SPI functions to format the PWM data. With a micro-processor, the LED brightness level and the light time can be controlled by the output duty cycle. Third, a voltage promotion function circuit is designed for a serial LED with the charge pump. The charge pump circuit is designed with MOS diodes and an external capacitors to multiple the input voltage by 3 times. The chips all be designed with TSMC 0.35um process, and the implemented chip can meet our specification.

This study used a questionnaire for consumers survey about their buying behavior on LCD TV, by the factor analysis method and difference analysis method to find out the consumers’ demand on LCD TV’s functions and attributions. According to the data-analyzing result, consumers not only have great interest in buying LCD TV, but also have great willing to buy it. However, there still remains some gap between current market-selling prices and most consumers’ estimated prices. Besides, almost the consumers answered the questionnaire have TV in their house already. That is the reason why most of them still keep watching on LCD TV buying. By using factor analysis method on LCD TV’s functions and attributions, this survey obtained three factors, which were additional function on LCD TV digitalization, healthy and environment protecting function and flat display attribution. Among those three factors above, it reached an agreement on the most demand for the healthy and environment protecting function. In addition, the high incomers pay more attention on flat display attribution. To summarize the analysis result we are able to predict that, demands on LCD TV from future consumers will become multi-trended. Factors like large display size, high resolution, high-quality performance, fashionable outline design, claim on environment protecting and selling price will be the key for consumers’ determination on buying LCD TV.

LCD displays become one of the major industries of Taiwan. Large-size LCD panels will be the trend of the future development of LCD panels, and TV screens will become the main application eventually, CRT TV will be replaced by TFT-LCD completely in the future. LCD displays involve many technologies, including: electronic engineering, optics and material science. Manufacturers declaring their leading edge in the developments of LCD technology usually focus on issues of energy efficiency and the slimness of LCD display. In this study, Kansei Engineering technique will be employed to evaluate the perceptual characteristics of the slimness of TFT-LCD TV display. This study tried to answer the following questions: (1). What visual experiences users gain from slim TFT-LCD TVs. (2). To understand consumers’ Kansei preference toward TFT-LCD TV products. (3) The corresponding relationship between formal features and Kansei adjectives. The investigation includes four stages. 1st to collect TV pictures and adjectives. 2nd to sift diversity from TV pictures and adjectives using KJ, and confirmed 6 final adjectives. 3rd to extract items and categories and conduct the Kansei experiment to build up the relationship between TV pictures and adjectives. 4th to verify and discuss the findings. The results indicate that the relationship between formal features and adjectives by Quantitative Theory Type Ⅰ constructed can be used to formulate the TFT-LCD TV design principles. T test further verifies that there is no significance between the predicted value and Kansei evaluation value. Hence, the formulated principles are quite accurate and feasible. The results of this study are expected to provide designers and marketers with a set of meaningful and reliable guidelines for the development of TFT-LCD TV displays.

The main objects in this paper are the structure of LCD TV set and direct backlight module with CCFL light source. The weight ratio of backbezel is about 61%, 45% and 20% in backlight module / LCM / TV set respectively. The distance from lamp to grounded backbezel in a direct backlight module is too close so that a leakage current is not avoidable. Therefore, the uniformity of brightness is bad in this conventional backlight module. We discuss and review the current structure and focus on parts which have similar functions. We remove the parts which have similar functions and replace it with different parts such as the backbezel in new structures of 37"/42" LCD TV sets.The conventional assembly way has to change because of the removed parts. We also remove the right and left side of the frontbezel and design a new plastic stand to make the new structure of 37" lighter. In this process of designing TV set and backlight module with new structure, we use LS-DYNA software to simulate the new structure strength for shock and wall mount test requirement and collect unknown data. After the 3D model is finished in Pro-E, we have to make mockup samples for active tests. In this research, we design new structures of 37"/42" LCD TV sets. The weight of these TV sets has 39.6 % and 44 % lighter and the thickness of them has 31.6 % and 24.7 % thinner than the current models on the market respectively. The uniformity of brightness also has 1.1% and 1.8% higher than the original.

The research is belong demonstrate analysis. First, extensively search and collect a variety of document, report, periodical, magazine and news to be arranged and generalize. Then, according to the industry of life cycle, Key Success Factor and Porter Competitive Strategy to study and classify background of industry then understand characteristic of LCD industry and investment status. Along with the huge scale of LCD TV demands in the markets, the only one way to acquire market share is doing research and development with new technology. Notwithstanding the demand scaled LCD TV has serious problem of color shift. In the past, research and development staff tried to maximize its parameter by try and error method, which delay the schedule of new product development with inefficiently improvement. Therefore, there are only high end LCD TVs with Multi-Domain Vertical Alignment ability can reduce the extent of color shift, which is also predicted to be the elemental function of big size LCD TVs. The purpose of this study is to improve color shift problem of LCD TV by performing Design for Six Sigma method. With the implementation of DMADV of Design for Six Sigma, this study finds out design ideas with the implementation of TRIZ. Moreover, this study executes improvement by optimizing the pixels electrode structure according to the adoption of Taguchi Method. Finally, the project has reached a significant improvement of color shift rapidly, upgrade the quality of production, and apply for patent. The contribution of this study is that research staff has improved color shift by implying DFSS, which bring forth extra net income of $530 million New Taiwan Dollars, and enlarge the market scale of TFT LCD TV.

As the increasing share of TV market, LCD TV becomes the most popular 3C product in the minds of consumers. Besides the brand name of LCD TV, the picture quality is a very important factor to determine the purchasing decision of customer. Consequently, every corporation of LCD TV chip provider has its own picture quality processing engine. In general, the picture quality processor includes a front-end filter, deinterlacing, and post color and contrast adjustment. The work in this thesis is to propose a novel chromatic adjusting scheme of LCD TV without over-saturation, which can be implemented in hardware IP or an embedded function in TV controller SOC. The color setting of every branded LCD TV is not the same due to the characteristic of LCD panel and the market location. Furthermore, every user may have his own favorite color setting. Therefore, a chromatic adjustment is necessary in the LCD TV controller. The traditional methods of chromatic adjustment suffer from the hardware cost and computing power, and hence it can’t not specify the exact boundary of color space. It usually causes over-saturation after chromatic adjustment and loses the color tone detail. In this thesis, a novel chromatic adjusting scheme without any over-saturation is proposed. By exactly calculating the boundary of color space, this scheme can generate the vivid colors and preserve more detail in high saturation area of an image frame. Unlike the traditional methods, the proposed scheme can be easily implemented in hardware IP which is suitable for integration in SOC. In this work, a novel chromatic adjusting processing scheme for LCD TV is proposed. The chromatic adjusting scheme can make the picture quality more colorful after the favorite color adjustment by the user. The image frame will have no over-saturation and preserves the image detail after this color adjusting scheme. Comparing with traditional method, this scheme can be implemented in hardware, whish means it can be easily adopted in SOC chip.

Produce LCD technology to create volume TVs become thinner and lighter, and also means that television is not only evolutionary change in color, size, performance, meaning that a single TV from the previous monotonous contemporary home appliances gradually into life important decorations. The study will use a key factor in the technology acceptance model TAM (Technology acceptance model) and the diffusion of innovation theory to analyze user acceptance of smart LCD TV behavior to understand the impact of new consumer behavior is willing to replace the smart TVs, filtered through interviews with experts asked after collecting item questionnaire, and finally through the SPSS statistical research methods to explore the potential of domestic consumers will buy LCD TVs in recent years the relative importance and effectiveness of ingredients LCD televisions important attributes between pairs. Finally, based on the five characteristics of innovation have a positive impact on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use and ultimately affect consumers 'willingness to buy, so further research can be verified in technology products for the new technology can really affect consumers' willingness to buy, but as there is no further study of consumer buying behavior as it can not prove this, but it may be provided to take the LCD TV brands and system operators in the early planning and design of intelligent LCD TV for the development of new products, new specifications make reference to advantageous.

Although analog TV system is on its way out and gradually switched to digital ones, some of the applications of analog signals still play a vital role in the evolution of television. In particular, the methods of modulation imaging and audio signals of analog TV system have continued to be widely used in the emerging digital TV system, simply because the design principle remains the same. This paper mainly discusses the system configuration of analog signal LCD TV and the design principle of functions in the module. In general, TV circuit design is mainly divided into two parts in terms of video signal processing and audio signal processing. In addition, the input device of the control of human machine interface adopts the bottons and infrared remote controls, while the output may accommodate characters over the image or pattern to visual output signals. A single chip can be applied to process control programming and system integration. In areas of the power system and circuit board layout, this study aims at exploring the issues concerning the solutions of how can the signal transmission be enhanced, power and noise interferences be reduced, as well as power conversion efficiency be increased.

Though the fast grow up in Taiwan TFT LCD field, but faced the bottle-neck gradually,the high competition,in the situation of short of global brand and complete consumer electrical marketing channel,when the Panel business turns from IT to consumer electrical marketing,will face the more severe survive challenge,then the further resources integration will be proceeded, and it will be the chance for the Taiwan panel maker。It still exists the high marketing growing up rate in panel marketing;in the LCD Monitor;17 inch & 19 inch product already have been the main product,forecast in 2007,above 17 inch monitor will occupy about 85% market share。For the LCD TV marketing,although 70% LCD TV are below 30 inch in 2004 marketing share,but estimated will grow up till 45 millions sets in 2007,and the over30 inch market share will be over 55%。For the middle/small panel marketing,together with the consumer electrical product multi-pattern,will grow up till 650 millions sets,and Active Mode TFT LCD will be over 60% market share。Since the limited market、short of know how operation and marketing experiences,in such situation of short of complete supply chain & national brand,still need to face the severe competition, that makes the Taiwan panel makers more and more difficult in the business。 The problem of Taiwan panel makers is short of big TV brand support,not the capacity issue。Current global top 10 brand TV included SONY、Matsushita、Sharp、Samsung、LG、Thomson、PHILIPS、Hitachi、Toshiba、JVC,except 2 of 10 they have own panel plant to fully support,the panel output & capacity consumption will be the key issue。Expect the future ,Taiwan panel makers should focus on the integration of brand、panel makers、OEM/ODM makers,also need to make the district advances working-separation for Taiwan & Korea/Japan makers。For the Taiwan panel makers,we also need to make the vertical & horizontal resources integration to face the more severe challenge。This paper focus on the Taiwan main panel makers 【HannStar】and 【CMO】LCD TV sales strategy,try to finds the variance & differences,and positioning、product life cycle etc.finds the niche point;also provide the proper suggestions to Taiwan opto-electrical field,as past Taiwan semi-conductor field。Establish own brand & impression,integrated the supply chain,makes 【Make In Taiwan】be a representative of high level product。

The liquid crystal displays (LCD) TV is the superstar on digital displays industry. Currently, LCD-TV will be more and more attractive to customers. The strength in the large screen size, thin shape, high resolution and energy saving of LCD-TV greatly increases the potential of this industry. To satisfy the requirement of the coming digitalized video life, the business of digital video program will be more and more attractive in the world. The growing LCD-TV market is considered as a good opportunity for domestic companies to create the market business that would be more than hundred billion NT in the world per year. The main purpose of this study is to investigate potential LCD-TV consumers' preference levels for the six important attributes by using the famous marketing research method - Conjoint Analysis. Additionally, a summary database of importance and utilities was also founded, and the next step was to find root causes that may limit new products’ market share. Then we can offer the result to LCD-TV manufactures to set the marketing strategy for new products. This study was carried out using questionnaires. After collecting all main attributes of LCD TV in the market, we use pre-test questionnaires to determine product attributes and levels, and the six important attributes include price, size, brand, video-resolution, lifetime and customer-service. In establishing questionnaire of this study, orthogonal array method was used to reduce the number of attribute combination. The study of attribute combination was carried out through the word cards, and 226 usable questionnaires from Taiwan were collected. The major findings of this experiment include: 1.The potential consumers already have basic knowledge of the attributes of LCD TV, but they are still not willing to buy in short-term mainly due to the high price. 2.As for the importance of product attributes, the potential LCD TV consumers' preferences according to priority are price, size, brand, video-resolution, lifetime and customer-service. The corresponding percentages are 32%, 20%, 19%, 13%, 8.4% and 7.6%. 3.Base on the cross analysis of demographic statistics, the study gains a usable value for the LCD TV attributes preference of each demographic group. 4.The study conclusion provides a criterion and equation to evaluate new LCD TV’s attributes. 5.Through the Conjoint Analysis, we can gain an optimal combination of attributes and strategies.

As the production output of large-size LCD panels in recent time exceeds, the acceptable pricing of LCD TV stimulates the consistant market demand, meanwhile, the continual availability of high-definition digital TV broadcasting of worldwide markets and the popular trend of digital home entertainment do encourage the LCD TV supply chain, thus, creates annually more than billions US dollars of business oppotunities. Despite of the big market in this segment, all players in the LCD TV field have to face both rapid changing market and the fierce competition. Which LCD TV will draw consumer’s interest and become best selling item is what the motive and the goal of this thesis to analize in focusing on consumer’s purchase determinants, identifying the priority and rank of the purchase determinating indicators from the view of consumers enabling adequate references for LCD TV supply chain to have efficient marketing and product development. This study is based on Porter’s five forces model of competition. It combines system dynamics theory to make Porter’s five forces model be simulated by dynamic system model and then the strategy can be simulated by computer. With this strategic experiment, the industry analysis or industry strategy can be simulated and experimented just like in the laboratory and make the forecast in the future be achievable. The conclusions of this study are presented as follows: 1.The five forces in Porter’s five forces model can be expressed and quantified by combination of each two forces. 2.The Porter’s five forces model is not strong enough to cope with the dynamic, twinkling and changeful environment. But it can be compensated by system dynamics theory. 3.Combining the system dynamics theory and Porter’s five forces model, the relationship between every two forces can be transformed into cause-and-effect chain. The total forces among five forces can be expressed by system feedback circle. 4.After combination of the system dynamic theory and Porter’s five forces model, we can use the iThink software to simulate the combination. It makes the unquantifiable force change be able to be simulated and forecasted. The conclusions above are significant to the study in the following aspects. 1.The ten forces relationship of Porter’s five forces model can be expressed by cause-and-effect chain in system dynamics theory. 2.The pull-and-push relationship of the ten forces combination in Porter’s five forces model can be expressed by system feedback circle. 3.The mutual and active forces in the system dynamics can be quantified, simulated and forecasted.

This thesis presents the results of study and implement action to integrate two subsystems of (1) two-stage power factor correction ac-dc converter and (2) dc-ac inverter. To enhance the efficiency of low utlity-line and reduce the temperature of main components such as MOSFETs, ICs and transformers, the two-stage power factor correction subsystem bootsts up to 230 V on low utlity-line and 400 V on high utlity-line separats by a line reference voltage 150 V. This power factor correction subsystem reduces the total harmonic distortions of input current and enhances the rated power and efficiency by using the boundary-conduction-mode (BCM) operated L6561 IC of ST, this main power dc-dc converter and standby power dc-dc converter subsystem is both using the flyback topology, are used with SG6841 IC of SG and TOP 263 IC of TI. This thesis also covers the standby mode design with the resulting standby power being under 1 watt to reduce the power distortion of standby mode. The dc-ac inverter subsystem using the OZ9939 IC of O2 Micro, is the “push pull” instead of the “full bridge” topology to reduce the temperature of switches, and enhance the total efficiency. This thesis tries to use one transformer to control the lamp current equivalently with a balance choke. Then, the proposed circuit integrats the ac-dc converter and dc-ac inverter subsystems on the same PCB board for saving the materials and space, and it is tested with a 20-inches 6 lamps TV panel. According the experiment reveals the optimum efficiency of the ac-dc converter being at 83% during the voltages from 90 to 264, and the optimum efficiency of inverter is at 86% with lamp current of 6mA. The optimum total system efficiency of the integrated power supply is at 71.5%, with an above average performance.

Especially products amount are produced and used for a long time, avoid being discharged by ESD, promoting the antistatic reference of the products.We propose the protecting design method and promote its ability to resist ESD effectively. Regard the integrated circuit now as the foundation, add the special ESD protecting design for its. Prove and find out the most effective design to promote its protective capacities. For instance: the power line preventing designing, etc..The above way can improve its protective capacities effectively. We can include these methods in the blueprint of designing during the course of designing tentatively. Reach the efficiency of preventing ESD, saving manpower, time and cost at the same time.

This study discusses the digital TV from three aspects: industry policy, technology concept and market analysis. Firstly, it analyzes the efforts that Government have put on the digital TV industry, such as strategic planning, policy-making and legislation. Then, comparing the advantages and disadvantages of three different TV technologies: TFT-LCD, plasma and rear projection. Finally, investigating the current market status based on various TV panel sizes. So far, both domestic and foreign digital TV manufacturers have massively invested R&D resources on the development of various panel sizes, trying to attract those skeptical consumers with higher resolution, multi-functional TVs. However, the 2004 Athens Olympics actually did not trigger the big booming of digital TV as expected. This study examines the different needs of China, Japan, Korea, Europe and US markets, and hopes the results can be good references for related manufacturers to position their market. The big potential of China market provides a good opportunity for Taiwan’s digital TV manufacturers. LCD TV, set-top box and related components supply all are proper business to conduct. To achieve the target of “Two trillions”, Taiwan government must make some laws to provide the necessary resources to encourage and upgrade the digital TV industry.

The heat source form cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) on the backlight unit (BLU) causes panel of thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) TV to warp, then LCD panel extrudes with the front shield and leads to local worse image quality on the TV. The study aims at developing a reliable procedure for evaluating the performance of 23 inch TFT-LCD TV in thermal fluid fields and thermal-mechanical of LCD panel by using numerical simulation and experimental measurement during the operation, as well as for reducing their temperature and thermal deformation to improve image quality of TFT-LCD TV by design modification. In the numerical simulation, first, thermal fluid fields of the whole TFT-LCD TV are analyzed by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with finite volume method (FVM) to acquire mainly the temperature field of the LCD panel. Second, thermal-mechanical of the LCD panel is analyzed by thermo-elastic finite element method (FEM). The results show good compatibility to demonstrate that the simulation process successfully predicts to warp phenomenon and defects of display in the panel of TFT-LCD TV. In addition, the data acquisition system (National Instruments®, NI) is employed to acquire sensor data and drive the motion apparatus as well. As a driving program, LabVIEW® is used to integrate the operation and data-acquisition interfaces. The sensing equipment includes three major parts which are explained in detail in the following separately. The thermocouples are used to measure the temperature variation on the CCFLs, the rubber caps, reflection sheet, diffuser plate inside BLU and LCD panel of the TFT-LCD TV. The non-contact displacement sensor (NCDS) transversely moves by an X-Y table to acquire the thermal deformation displacement data of the LCD panel with and without the front shield, respectively. The strain gages are used to measure the thermal strain of LCD panel with and without the front shield, respectively. Consequently, the temperature, thermal deformation and thermal strain distributions on the LCD panel can be obtained. During the operation, all the measurements are conducted and recorded from power-on (initial transient) till reaching a steady state. The study proposes the LCD TV module improving technology to solve the thermal deformation of LCD panel problem and to improve the image quality of LCD TV. The first task shows the successful choosing an appropriate gap between the panel and the front shield to prevent extrusion, and thus to achieve the improvement of image quality. In another design modification, the concept of opening aperture at the BLU provides an effective heat dissipation by natural convection for a TFT-LCD TV without adding extra heat management modules. The results show effectively lower the whole temperature distribution of TFT-LCD TV and effectively reduce the thermal deformation of LCD panel. This prevents the LCD panel from squeezing by the front shield. Again, the color distortion is also removed. The study had set up a systematic analysis and an experimental measurement. The achievements can assist engineers in designing, analyzing, and testing for the improving image quality of LCD-TV. The technology will promote an ability about the research and development of flat panel display (FPD) industry. The applied approaches can even be broadened to other TFTLCD products.

In an era of fast product and process innovations, the innovative product life cycles (PLC) are becoming shorter and shorter. Meanwhile, PLCs of some most important high technology products including Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM), Central Processing Units (CPU), etc. have demonstrated the multi-generation behavior. However, past researchers on multiple generations have been focused more on technological forecasting while ignored the impacts of marketing mix variables. Be aware of the situation, this paper intends to propose an analytic framework for selecting the optimum portfolio of marketing strategies at different PLC stages. A multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) framework consisting of the Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) as the tool for configuring the decision problem structure, the Analytical Network Process (ANP) as the tool for calculating weights of each criterion, and finally, the VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) as the tool for ranking the alternatives have been proposed for defining the marketing mix strategy for a LCD TV vendor. An empirical study on large-sized LCD TVs will be leveraged for verifying the usefulness of this proposed analytic framework on multiple generation product marketing strategies definitions. The Empirical analysis result shows that the best marketing mix strategies over each PLC stage as well as demonstrates the effectiveness of this analytic framework. The optimal marketing mix strategies being derived in the empirical analysis include: (1) introduction stage: product-design strategy, full-cost pricing, selective distribution and advertising-copy strategy; (2) growth stage: product-positioning strategy, product line-pricing strategy, selective distribution and media-selection strategy; (3) maturity stage: diversification strategy, bundle pricing strategy, intense distribution and media-selection strategy; and (4) decline stage: product-elimination strategy, flexible-pricing pricing, selective distribution, push strategy. Finally, certain conclusions and suggestions for marketing mix strategies in different product life cycle stages, and further study were presented and proposed. The analytic results can also serve as the strategy portfolio of a late coming LCD-TV firm.

Abstract In this thesis, based on Electro-Magnetic theories and principle, we propose a hybrid method to suppress the Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) in antenna effect without metal shielding devices. The hybrid proposal uses the suppressing antenna effect rules of EMI technology. Furthermore, the hybrid proposal could meet the EMC requirement; also provide a product cost reduction, better propagation in temperature, and easier fabrication. In the proposed scheme, we offer a number of methods to reduce EMI radiated emission problems. 1. Grounding (0V reference plane) pattern rebuilding. 2. Using filter and EMI suppressing component technique in the proper positions. 3. PCB layout Modify. In this thesis, the following contributions are gained: According to our knowledge, we use hybrid proposal method to lower down EMI radiated emission level without shielding devices from the TFT-LCD Television. We bright out an efficient and economical way to reduce EMI radiated emission level. The experiments show that, we are able to cut off the extra cost, reduce the temperature, and also production easily.

TFT LCD is one of the critical items in our technology development plan in Taiwan. Based on the support policy from government and technology transfer from foreign countries, the LCD industry in Taiwan grow rapidly during these years and Taiwan becomes the second largest export country of LCD related products in the world such as AUO, CMO, CPT, Hannstar, Innolux. Those companies setup factories cross Taiwan island and China and they play the important role in the economic development of Taiwan. The cluster effect also influence the multi-development and the value growth of LCD TV industry. The bright future of LCD TV industry will depend on the close of analog signal globally and the broadcast of digital signal. Also, under the support from government, the age of digital home will bring huge potential business and LCD TV is very important topic in economic development in different countries. As the IC supplier in electronic industry, semiconductor industry covers different areas for different applications and rich our life. Besides, the involvement in R&D from many IC design houses in TFT LCD TV field faces the rapid change and uncertainty. It makes the topic interested and worth to do the research. Nowadays, due to the gradually mature on related technologies, the profit margin of LCD-TV has become thinner. It is very important to find a niche point to overcome such difficulty. As stated by many literatures, the concept of modular design had been applied to many thin-margin products, such as personal computer, and received highly successful. However, the modular design concept has not been adopted by LCD TV industry currently. This research explains how to put modular design concept into LCD TV products. Based on modular design concept, this research illustrates a methodology to establish modular product architecture and generic product platform for LCD TV, with cost and performance considered. The modular architecture of the LCD TV are designed as building blocks which could be grouped together to form a variety of products. This approach will promote standardization and the re-use of existing modules to develop new products. Finally, this research provides a simple example to illustrate how modularity can reduce inventory and promote customer service level.

The purpose of this technique report lies in designing the power supply of the liquid-crystal display television (LCD TV). The power supplies of the backlight module and the motherboard have been integrated into a circuit board for the LCD TV or some related display products, referred to as the LCD -TV Integrated Power Supply (LIPS). The 32-inch and larger LCD TVs on the mainstream market require multiple voltage rails to provide different system power modules for executing audio, backlight, and signal processing, in which the signal processing board uses local linear and DC-DC converters to give different lower voltage rails. For convenience, manufacturers usually utilize a general purpose integrated power supply for supporting LIPS from 90 to 265 voltages. To implement a high efficiency and broad range of the input LIPS, in this technique report, one of the low-loss magnetic material core has been used for an optimization design. In this technique report, an implementation of the LIPS with a lowest input voltage 127 Volts has been completed. In comparison with conventional non-continuous resonant converters, our design possesses more anti-EMI and larger capacity of high-voltage capacitance. As a result, the single LIPS design based on a specific TV size can be used in a wide range of different models to meet different market needs and reduce development costs.

The technology LCD TV grew rapidly and the reduction in production cost that made the price of the larger and higher quality TV be more affordable. The change of consumer behavior appealed more enterprise indulged in the LCD industry, which caused the market became a price competition. The panel suppliers and own branded (OBM) company need to find the new strategy to prevent more loss in such a struggling sitatuation. The study will focus on the key success factors that the OBM Co. need to consider during an over-supply and capacity market. Further investigation in the business model development which leaded the OBM Co. escaped from the price war and even the revenue raising. We interviewed the H-Co. to see how they integrated the vertical industry as execution strategy. We used the SWOT to see how the market to respond the expectation to the H-Co. with a coordinated business model. In sum, H-Co. took good advantage of the global vertical integration to reach higher production technology and the consumer preference.

The main purpose of this thesis is to study the vibration problem of a TFT-LCD TV caused by the sound of the loudspeaker and to look for the solution for reducing the corresponding noise due to resonance. Since the TV bezel couldn’t be totally constrained with the TFT-LCD panel, it will collide with the TFT-LCD panel and emerge the vibration when the loudspeaker shakes. This thesis regards LabVIEW as the interface of signal analysis and signal processing to acquire the signal of the impact hammer and the accelerometer on every measure points of the TV bezel. By the signal processing of LabVIEW to acquire the frequency responses and find out the position where the maximum occurs. Finally, the design of TV was modified based on the measurement data. The frequency response of the TV set was improved and the associated noise was also reduced.

Abstract TFT-LCD is the abbreviation of Thin-Film Transistor Liquid-Crystal Display. The front and back covers of the products are made by means of plastic injection molding. The length and breadth ratio is quite uniform (nearly 4:3), and the related development technologies of plastic molding are matured to a certain extent. Among the LCD TV (namely, the abbreviation of Liquid Crystal Display Television) series of products, market orientation is 16:9 wide screen ratio and large sizes. However, there is no related information on the tooling development technologies of such plastic injection molding front and back cover components of larger length and breadth ratio. This study will discuss and analyze the phenomenon of finished product twist deformation and abnormal molding surfaces that I possibly encountered during the process of tooling development for front and back cover molding injection work-piece (appearance) in LCD TV products. With almost 10 years of experience in the plastic tooling industry, I made the decision to plunge myself into this study of looking at the continuous contraction of the product development process. Possible problems with LCD-TV products from tooling development to molding test and mass production will be discussed in this study. This will be in an attempt to establish a set of rules for development for references when designing similar tooling in the future. This study is accomplished by means of integration of experience and technologies, applications of CAD/CAM/CAE and actual tooling development. The result may enable the passing on of the information of mechanical technologies and contribute to education and training as well as development of new products in the future.

Abstract Through the rapid progress of technology, the size of LCD get larger and the exterior of product are two main concern of TV. Thus, CRT Monitor has been gradually replaced by light TFT-LCD TV. For 3C market is gradually mature and competitive, the demand of exterior, complexity of product, and the quality of the product are all raised. To decrease the error of mold design and shorten time, the experiences and inheritances of designers and aged engineers are trusted in product design. Through tests, the standards of mold design and product quality have been set up. However, the complicate of TFT-LCD TV formation can’t be manufactured easily. The purpose of this study is to discuss the 28 inch TFT-LCD TV products that might make warpage abnormal with products in the molding development which belong to appearance of back cover plastic injection molding. Moldflow is used to analysis TFT-LCD TV back cover and finding out the best parameter setup of TFT-LCD TV, for its outstanding ability on plastic mold analysis. Through the analysis、mold temperature、compressed pressure、cooling time and dissolved plastic liquid temperature are the for crucial parameters that affects warpage abnormal. Moreover, Taguchi Optimization Methods is also used to find out Smaller-is-better. According to the study, the smallest parameter setup of warpage could prevent the exterior from out of shape product which could help to reduce the cost、the usage of material. It could increase the competitive the ability of products at the same time. Finally, it would give a contribution on TFT-LCD TV in the future by comparing the result between the best parameters set up and actual result.

TV is a product with integration of audio and video technologies. The TV market involves revolution from monochrome to color, from the cathode ray tube to the flat panel display that requires innovation of LCD panel technology. Up to now, the penetration rate of LCD TV nearly achieves 100%. In the foreseeable future,LCD TV will be the mainstream technology of color television. Under the integration of the three networks (telecommunication networks, broadcasting television networks and the Internet), the digitization and the popularization of internet, the television gradually becomes a home entertainment center, the family message center as well as the contents of the operating platform. In particular, China is the largest LCD TV market worldwide and the main battlefield for all LCD TV brand makers. This research mainly focuses on the China LCD TV market for foreign brands that competes with the domestic brands. The reasons why those foreign brands show competing advantage in the world, but not in mainland China, are investigated through the PEST, diamond model, five forces and the SWOT analysis. Based on the analytical result, this research proposes a competitive strategy and identifies opportunity in China market, so the foreign brands LCD TV makers can use as reference to enhance its competitiveness.
