Abstract:
The media celebration of media owner Ted Turner's career and personal biography reflects important shifts in the image of American corporate leadership over the past thirty years.Even aspects of Turner’s life we would normally consider private, such as his sex life and his marriage to Jane Fonda, have taken on this very public function. As a result Turner has served as a transitional figure between two competing visions of corporate identity and responsibility: paternalist managerialism and the “real entity” theory of the firm on the one hand, and on the other, antimanagerial market adventurism and the new economic theory of the firm as a nexus of contracts. The story of how Turner has come to serve this gender-charged iconic function helps clarify how the balance of representational power continues to shift back and forth between these two visions during a period of considerable upheaval in the social, legal, and symbolic construction of the American corporation.

Abstract:
Abstract Ontological Pluralism is the thesis that there are different ways of being. In his recent paper, ‘The only way to be’, Trenton Merricks has presented an important challenge to Pluralism in the form of a dilemma. The purpose of this paper is two-fold. First, I argue that Merricks’s argument against Pluralism, as stated, is unsound. I will argue that one horn of the dilemma is unproblematic for contemporary versions of Pluralism, defended by Jason Turner and Kris McDaniel, that are formulated in the framework of Ted Sider. However, my second task is to provide a new dilemma against Pluralism, which, when combined with Merricks’s arguments, constitutes a sound argument against all forms of Pluralism. The new dilemma will reveal that the real problem with Ontological Pluralism is its conflict with Ted Sider’s principle of Purity.

The following article is a personal reminiscence of the planning and making of the 24-part television documentary series Cold War (CNN, 1998–9). It reveals the vision of TV mogul Ted Turner in getting a series made on what many felt to be an unpopular subject, the influence of the award-winning British television documentary series The World at War (1973–4), and the contribution of the producer Jeremy Issacs, who was behind both series. Cold War was able to take advantage of recent access to former Eastern bloc archives and drew on the expertise and authority of young Cold War historians. The article considers the initial broadcasting of the series and its impact.

Abstract:
In this article, the researcher discusses present verbs. Present verbs are typically employed in the simple present tense to describe events that occur on a regular basis in the present. This article discusses the use of present verbs in twelve news articles on CNN.com. The goal of this research is to determine how many present verbs are used on CNN.com and which present verbs are most often utilized. I chose CNN.com because CNN.com is one of the largest mass media in the world. Mass media was first initiated by Ted Turner and Reese Schoenfeld and was first launched in 1980 and is a subsidiary of WarnerMedia. It is also the first TV channel to broadcast news 24 hours non-stop. The data is collected using a qualitative method, specifically by collecting news from CNN.com. The review reveals the variety of present verb uses in 57 (fifty-seven) news articles on CNN.com in 2020 and the variety of present verbs that are often utilized.

Abstract:
Public administration has come of age. The ability to function well in government is no longer regarded as a form of on-the-job training that can be added to some other credential. Even the general public is aware of the sheer amount of grueling staff work that lies behind the public announcements of a Bill Clinton, a Ted Kennedy, a Bob Dole, or any federal agency. Government has become too complex and pervasive and multi-layered to be other than a full-time profession.

Abstract:
Despite the importance of public speaking skills for English for Academic Purposes (EAP) students’ academic and professional success, few EAP textbooks in- corporate authentic, professional speech models. Thus, many EAP instructors have turned to TED talks for dynamic speech models. Yet a single TED talk may be too long for viewing in class and may limit students’ exposure to various speech styles. In the classroom activity described in this article, students listen to short clips from several TED speeches to learn techniques for making supporting points memorable; they then apply these techniques to their own extemporaneous speeches. This article highlights the critical need for authentic speech models in EAP courses; ful lls the need for authenticity by describing a lesson that utilizes several short, dynamic clips from TED talks to teach students how to use compel- ling support in presentations; and highlights positive student learning outcomes from student presentations and re ections over six semesters of instruction.

Abstract:
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a serious disease. The gut microbiota (GM) has recently been identified as a new potential risk factor in addition to well-known diabetes risk factors. To investigate the GM composition in association with the dietary patterns in patients with different glucose tolerance, we analyzed 92 patients: with normal glucose tolerance (n=48), prediabetes (preD, n=24), and T2D (n=20). Metagenomic analysis was performed using 16S rRNA sequencing. The diet has been studied by a frequency method with a quantitative evaluation of food intake using a computer program. Microbiota in the samples was predominantly represented by Firmicutes, in a less degree by Bacteroidetes. Blautia was a dominant genus in all samples. The representation of Blautia, Serratia was lower in preD than in T2D patients, and even lower in those with normal glucose tolerance. After the clustering of the samples into groups according to the percentage of protein, fat, carbohydrates in the diet, the representation of the Bacteroides turned to be lower and Prevotella abundance turned to be higher in carbohydrate cluster. There were more patients with insulin resistance, T2D in the fat–protein cluster. Using the Calinski–Harabasz index identified the samples with more similar diets. It was discovered that half of the patients with a high-fat diet had normal tolerance, the others had T2D. The regression analysis showed that these T2D patients also had a higher representation of Blautia. Our study provides the further evidence concerning the structural modulation of the GM in the T2DM pathogenesis depending on the dietary patterns.

AbstractThe emergence of the Tea Party Movement after the election of President Barack Obama is the result of increasing anxieties, fears, and anger in a predominantly White middle class and working class constituency. Starting as a project of elite conservative strategists, the Tea Party movement quickly developed an actual mass base, and turned into the type of right-wing populist movement seen previously throughout US history. This article uses a social movement theory approach to explain the Tea Parties and considers how race, gender, and class dynamics are shifted toward the scapegoating of liberals, people of color, immigrants, and other targets.

Tea farming, in the recent past, was one of the leading branches of agriculture in Georgia. Since the 1990s of the last century this very important and leading branch of subtropical agriculture turned out to be bankrupt. On without well-groomed plantations, on a massive scale spread weeds, on the part of which, tea plants have undergone tough competition, it caused the weakness of tea culture function ability, in particular, in tea bushes were disturbed the function of physiological process, mainly the intensity of photosynthesis, increased breathing, etc. This article presents the results of a study of the state of tea plantations, who find themselves in extreme conditions unclean for a long time on the example of one of the tea producing regions of Georgia – Imereti, namely the degree of weed, morphological features of the aerial organs of tea plants, the root system, In this article it is discussed Some aspects of bushes caring process by applying different types of trimming and using the methods of mulching between rows. and also there is presented the development of practical measures for the rehabilitation of tea plantations.

Abstract:
AbstractIt was some time in August 1945 that I received a letter from my friend and fellow language officer, Ted de Bary, reporting that he had a marvelous idea. It was to exchange letters from wherever we were sent when the war was officially over. Such letters, written by people who knew Japanese, would surely be more perceptive in describing the postwar scene than the usual journalism. I at once replied with enthusiasm. Soon afterwards, we learned that he would be sent to Japan and I to China. I wanted badly to go to Japan, having spent three years as a translator and interpreter of Japanese, but my superior officer, who decided our destinations, knowing how badly I wanted to go to Japan, sent me to China. I told myself that I should have been nicer to the superior, laughed at his jokes, and shared his various prejudices. But, although the war would soon be over, this was a military unit and orders had to be obeyed. I resigned myself to going to China. As it turned out, I was very lucky. My experiences in China were probably more varied than if I had been sent, like most of the language personnel, to a base in Japan. It also meant that Ted and I would have a real correspondence describing life in two quite different societies.

Abstract:
In Taiwan, people who enjoy traditional Gongfu tea are becoming older and older, while the younger generation has many alternative beverages to select from. In order to sustainably pass down traditional tea-drinking culture, this study has incorporated concepts and methodologies of the peak-end rule, customer journey maps (CJMs), quality function deployment (QFD), fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP), and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation based on entropy, resulting in the development of a set of tea utensils tailored for a novice or beginner tea maker with the purpose of improving the tea-drinking experience of the younger generation. In this study, the ranking of the importance in regard to six design requirements turned out to be: enhancing the sniffing experience (0.240); having ergonomic designs that facilitate a smooth process of pouring hot water into the cup (0.205); increasing the ease of storing tea utensils after brewing (0.162); enabling users to more precisely determine the strength of the tea (0.144); increasing fun while pouring tea leaves into the teapot (0.143); and having clearly designated space for placing each tea utensil (0.107). Through the experts’ evaluation, 66.6% of them rated the design outcome as “good” or “very good”, indicating that the innovative tea utensils developed in this study can effectively satisfy users’ needs. This study can be the supplement to the innovation shortage of tea-culture-related studies, establish the research framework in the academic field, and bring more innovation and potential to the field of the tea culture.

Abstract:
The study aimed to determine the enhanced effects of essential oils (EOs) and plant-derived molecules (PDMs) as penetration enhancers (PEs) for transdermal drug delivery (TDD) of caffeine. A 1% w/w solution of eight EOs and seven PDMs was included in the 1% caffeine carbopol hydrogel. Franz diffusion cell experiments were performed using mice with full-thickness skin. At various times over 24 h, 300 μL of the receptor were withdrawn and replaced with fresh medium. Caffeine was analyzed spectrophotometrically at 272 nm. The skin irritation effects of the hydrogels applied once a day for 21 days were investigated in mice. The steady-state flux (JSS) of the caffeine hydrogel was 30 ± 19.6 µg cm−2 h−1. An increase in caffeine JSS was induced by Lippia origanoides > Turnera diffusa > eugenol > carvacrol > limonene, with values of 150 ± 14.1, 130 ± 47.6, 101 ± 21.7, 90 ± 18.4, and 86 ± 21.0 µg cm−2 h−1, respectively. The Kp of caffeine was 2.8 ± 0.26 cm h−1, almost 2–4 times lower than that induced by Lippia origanoides > Turnera diffusa > limonene > eugenol > carvacrol, with Kp values of 11 ± 1.7, 8.8 ± 4.2, 6.8 ± 1.7, 6.3 ± 1.2, and 5.15 ± 1.0 cm h−1, respectively. No irritating effects were observed. Lippia origanoides, Turnera diffusa, eugenol, carvacrol, and limonene improved caffeine’s skin permeation. These compounds may be as effective as the PE in TDD systems.

Abstract:
The polyphenol content of tea depends on the growing region, harvest date, the production process used, and the brewing parameters. In this study, research was undertaken that included an analysis of the influence of the brewing process parameters on the content of total polyphenols (Folin-Ciocalteu), epigallocatechin gallate (HPLC), and antioxidant activity (against DPPH radicals) of fresh tea shrub leaves grown from Taiwan and of teas obtained from them (oolong, green in bags, and green loose from the spring and autumn harvest). The antioxidant potential was determined in the methanol and aqueous extracts, as well as in infusions that were obtained by using water at 65 or 100 °C and infusing the tea for 5 or 10 min. The highest content of total polyphenols and epigallocatechin gallate was found in green tea extracts from the spring harvest. However, in the case of infusions, the highest content of these compounds was found in green tea in bags. Steaming at 100 °C for 10 min, turned out to be the most favourable condition for the extraction. Oolong tea, brewed at 100 °C for 5 min was characterised by the highest antioxidant activity against stable DPPH radicals.

Abstract:
Black tea processing consists of four steps, namely withering, CTC, fermentation and drying, while cup quality made tea mostly controlled by fermentation step. This study evaluated biochemical changes at different stages of black tea processing in Bangladesh and determined the optimum fermentation time. Samples were collected from different tea processing stages to measure major phytochemicals and time intervals during fermentation to measure theaflavins and thearubigins ratio. Caffeine content was the least susceptible to processing steps. Biochemical changes started at withering, cell maceration and enzymatic oxidation started at CTC processing, thus the major reduction in the reducing sugar (20.46 to 04.95 ppm), catechin (16.88 to 7.95 ppm) and polyphenol (42.30 to 30.73 ppm) occurred here. The significant changes appeared during fermentation when polyphenol content decreased from 44.66 to 18.23 and catechin from 17.41 to 03.98 ppm due to the breakdown of these compounds to theaflavins (TF) and thearubigins (TR). The TF and TR ratio increased with fermentation time, and the highest of 1:8.4 was found at 50 min, which turned into 1:10 in the final product. The made tea quality parameters were comparable or better at fermentation time of 50 min than the quality of the black tea available in market.

Abstract:
These days, as countries short in natural resources, both South Korean and Japanese government and industries have acknowledged that both needs to invest in improving their presence in cultural enterprises to utilize their national powers more efficiently and have been in talks to find a practical method to do so. It should be noted that Dado(다도, 茶道, tea ceremony) is a very important asset as a business and as a central theme for multiple cultural enterprises. Japan has not only embr ced Tea ceremony as part of their cultural heritage but also has turned it into a great medium and utilized it in various business and content creations to raise its marketability. As seen above the reason why Dado has become so accessible to the public was due to the abundant amount of information provided via media and public services and the sales of various tea and tea related products. Enjoying tea is no longer a luxury but a part of every days life as a hobby or for fashion. South Korea should learn and absorb the strong points of Japanese practices and begin spreading the Dado spirit by naturally augmenting Dado into everyday activities.

Abstract:
This paper discusses Victor Turner's theory of liminality, religion, and nationality obtained from primary sources using the literature review method. The results of his study serve as a theoretical basis for discussing Victor Turner's liminality and its relationship to religion and nationality. This theory will help the writer dissect the customary ritual of washing the land in Soya. Liminality is an important aspect of the rite and is adopted from Arnold Van Gennep's concept. The term ‘liminality’ comes from the Latin word 'limen', which means 'doorway'. Viktor Turner used this term in his research on symbols and rituals among the Ndembu people of Africa. Therefore, liminality has such rich characteristics that it provides its own perspective on the life of society and culture today. In addition to Liminality, the writer also examines the theory of religion and nationality initiated by Emile Durkheim and Ernest Gellner. The results of the study show that these three theories have a very close and substantial relationship, in which of these three theories is social equality with one another. This intersection exists as a result of Turner's theory of liminality.

Abstract:
✓ Bow hunter stroke, which is characterized by transient vertebrobasilar ischemia brought on by head turning, is an unusual condition usually caused by structural abnormalities at the craniocervical junction. The authors present a case in which compression of the left vertebral artery (VA) at the C4–5 level was caused by a laterally herniated intervertebral disc. A 56-year-old man presented with a 6-month history of dizziness and syncope when he turned his head 45° or more to the left. Transcranial Doppler (TCD) ultrasonography demonstrated decreased blood flow through the left VA, and angiography revealed an occlusion of the left VA at the C4–5 level, both when the patient turned his head to the left. Via an anterior cervical approach, the VA canal was unroofed through the transverse foramina to decompress the left VA at C4–5; intraoperatively, the left VA was found to be compressed by a laterally herniated cervical disc fragment. To the best of the authors' knowledge this is the first report of a laterally herniated cervical disc causing bow hunter stroke. The use of TCD may be of value in the diagnosis and management of the disorder, and herniated cervical disc must be included in the roster of potential causes for this rare disease.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Az orosz expanzió hatásainak vizsgálatában négy liminális időszakot állítunk a középpontba, amelyeket a meghatározó területi irányok mentén élő, érintett népek példáin keresztül mutatunk be. Elsőként a 18. századi, Fekete-tenger felé érvényesülő orosz expanzió által a krími tatár közösségek életében előidézett liminalitást vizsgáljuk. Ezt követően a cári birodalmat felváltó, a szovjet szocialista berendezkedés hatására jelentkező liminalitást mutatjuk be a Kaukázus térségében, a csecsenek példáján. A 20. század végén bekövetkező rendszerváltás lehetőséget adott a szovjet időszak liminalitásának megszűnésére, amit a balti államokban bekövetkező változások kapcsán vizsgálunk.

Abstract:
Primary cilia are tiny cellular protrusions deeply involved in intercellular communication. Initially misjudged as a rudiment of motile cilia, it turned out that the primary cilium functions as the cell’s antenna mediating signals which are indispensable for proper human development and homeostasis. Ciliary dysfunction results in severe human diseases collectively referred to as ciliopathies. Originally, ciliopathies were considered to be rare diseases, but the number of diseases identified as or assumed to be ciliopathies is permanently rising. Even common diseases such as cancer or neurodegenerative diseases are considered to be associated with primary cilia. Remarkably, cilia-mediated signalling is associated with extracellular vesicles. In this review, we summarise the current knowledge about the relationship between primary cilia and extracellular vesicles and discuss the role of this relationship in the development of human diseases.

Abstract:
The antioxidative activity of Camelia sinensis tea and especially powdered tea extracts on the market, among others used as added value in functional foods, can considerably vary due to not only natural variance, but also adulteration and falsification. Thus, an effect-directed profiling was developed to prove the functional effects or health-promoting claims. It took 3–12 min per sample, depending on the assay incubation time, for 21 separations in parallel. Used as a fast product quality control, it can detect known and unknown bioactive compounds. Twenty tea extracts and a reference mixture of 11-bioactive compounds were investigated in parallel under the same chromatographic conditions by a newly developed reversed phase high-performance thin-layer chromatographic method. In eight planar on-surface assays, effect-directed tea profiles were revealed. Catechins and theaflavins turned out to be not only highly active, but also multi-potent compounds, able to act in a broad range of metabolic pathways. The flavan-3-ols acted as radical scavengers (DPPH∙ assay), antibacterials against Gram-positive Bacillus subtilis bacteria, and inhibitors of tyrosinase, α-glucosidase, β-glucosidase, and acetylcholinesterase. Further effects against Gram-negative Aliivibrio fischeri bacteria and β-glucuronidase were assigned to other components in the powdered tea extracts. According to their specifications, the activity responses of the powdered tea extracts were higher than in mere leaf extracts of green, white and black tea. The multi-imaging and effect-directed profiling was not only able to identify known functional food ingredients, but also to detect unknown bioactive compounds (including bioactive contaminants, residues or adulterations).

Abstract:
Piracy has always been an integral part of the trade. The situation was similar in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea at the beginning of modern times, where merchants somehow turned into pirates and the state reached for the help of corsairs in order to implement their policies. Vast spaces, as well as a varied coastline, meant that piracy and corsairing became a permanent element of the reality of the time. At the end of the Middle Ages, Venice, Genoa and Aragon had the largest fleets. From the end of the 15th century, the Turks also began their adventure with the Mediterranean Sea, and within several decades their fleet became one of the most powerful. In their activities, they reached for the help of pirates, or rather Berber corsairs, who became the terror of the Mediterranean.

Abstract:
Polylactide/triethyl citrate (PLA/TEC) systems were prepared in two ways by introducing TEC to solidified polymer matrix (SS) and by blending in a molten state (MS) to investigate the effectiveness of the plasticization process after solidification of polylactide. The plasticization processes, independent of the way of introducing the TEC into PLA matrix, leads to systems characterized by similar stability, morphology, and properties. Some differences in mechanical properties between MS and SS systems result primarily from the difference in the degree of crystallinity/crystal thickness of the PLA matrix itself. Based on the presented results, it was concluded that the plasticization process after solidification of polylactide is an alternative to the conventional method of modification-blending in a molten state. Then, this new approach to plasticization process was utilized for the interpretation of thermal properties of PLA and PLA/TEC systems. It turned out that double melting peak observed at differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) thermograms does not result from the melting of a double population of crystals with different lamellar thickness, or the melting of both the α′ and α crystalline phase (commonly used explanations in literature), but is associated with the improvement of perfection of crystalline structure of PLA during heating process.

Abstract:
Abstract Context We set out to characterize the dynamics of islet autoantibodies over the first 15 years of life in children carrying genetic susceptibility to type 1 diabetes (T1D). We also assessed systematically the role of zinc transporter 8 autoantibodies (ZnT8A) in this context. Design HLA-predisposed children (N = 1006, 53.0% boys) recruited from the general population during 1994 to 1997 were observed from birth over a median time of 14.9 years (range, 1.9-15.5 years) for ZnT8A, islet cell (ICA), insulin (IAA), glutamate decarboxylase (GADA), and islet antigen-2 (IA-2A) antibodies, and for T1D. Results By age 15.5 years, 35 (3.5%) children had progressed to T1D. Islet autoimmunity developed in 275 (27.3%) children at a median age of 7.4 years (range, 0.3-15.1 years). The ICA seroconversion rate increased toward puberty, but the biochemically defined autoantibodies peaked at a young age. Before age 2 years, ZnT8A and IAA appeared commonly as the first autoantibody, but in the preschool years IA-2A– and especially GADA-initiated autoimmunity increased. Thereafter, GADA-positive seroconversions continued to appear steadily until ages 10 to 15 years. Inverse IAA seroconversions occurred frequently (49.3% turned negative) and marked a prolonged delay from seroconversion to diagnosis compared to persistent IAA (8.2 vs 3.4 years; P = .01). Conclusions In HLA-predisposed children, the primary autoantibody is characteristic of age and might reflect the events driving the disease process toward clinical T1D. Autoantibody persistence affects the risk of T1D. These findings provide a framework for identifying disease subpopulations and for personalizing the efforts to predict and prevent T1D.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Caterpillars of three major geometrid species such as, Hyposidra talaca, H. infixaria and Buzura suppressaria frequently attack tea plantations of sub-Himalayan plains of Terai and the Dooars region. The feeding activity of these pests often leads to heavy defoliation of tea bushes almost throughout the year. A clear understanding of the morphological diversity of these sympatric species is necessary at all life stages in order to contemplate their management strategies. Field observations indicated that amongst the loopers there is a dominance of H. talaca and H. infixaria at different seasons compared to the third species, B. suppressaria. Although a clear morphological difference of the adult moths of three concerned species was evident along with their distinct morphometry and weights, the larval instars of the congeners of Hyposidra were difficult to distinguish. However, a significant difference was observed in their development periods, which were 55 days for H. talaca and 48 days for H. infixaria. A clear distinction of the concerned species based on morphometrics and weight of pupa was also evident. In recent past, loopers have assumed the status of severe pest of tea in the sub- Himalayan plains mainly due to invasion of the two species of Hyposidra that have joined B. suppressaria in sharing the tea leaves as their ideal host. The newer pest species of Hyposidra otherwise known to occur on forest and fruit plants have of late turned to be a major defoliator of tea.

This study examined how red spinach can be developed into an environmentally friendly acid-base indicator that intends to be non-toxic, easy to obtain, and affordable. The natural indicator used in this study was red spinach leaf extract (Alternanthera amoena voss). The samples used were salt water, tea, pineapple, detergent, and oranges. Red spinach leaf extract was dropped on each sample which had a volume of 150mL resulting in a color change. The results of this study indicated that red discoloration occurs in samples of salt water, tea, oranges, and pineapples according to their acidic properties. Furthermore, detergent water turned to a bluish green color, and according to the basic properties of a detergent. This study concluded that red spinach leaf extract can be used as an environmental friendly natural indicator.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the life and activities of Trifon Kirillovitch Chokov (d. 1911), a Russian entrepreneur and tea merchant in Ceylon, who was one of the first Russian tea-merchants to settle in the island and start the tea-trade there. Being a very proactive and resilient person, he became the head of a small Russian community in Colombo. When the Russian vice-consul was absent, Chokov replaced him as a consular agent and as such played the role of the head of the house for those Russians who visited the island. The author valued Chokov as a man of the frontier, a certain territory which he wanted to “colonize”, to promote his business and to promote Russian trade and political influence there. He tried to involve Russian merchants in this trade, to show that that this distant island could be a profitable catch for Russia. His dream was to be appointed Russian Vice-Consul in Colombo, but all his initiatives ended in failure. That remote island was never appreciated as a frontier by the Russian authorities, which turned out to be a tragedy for Chokov.

Abstract:
The discourse on indigenizing of social sciences has been popular among Indonesian scholars since 1970s. However, it has not shown any significant development, in spite of many writings of Nusantara scholars that can be bases of references to develop sociological theories of Nusantara, such as the manuscripts of Kawruh Jiwo Ki Ageng Suryomentaram and Amanat Galunggung. Making an effort to indigenize social sciences of Nusantara, the present study investigates both manuscripts. The results of the study argue that there are basic theories of sociology discussed in those two manuscripts. For example, the concepts of social integration (kabuyutan), division of labor, and historical consciousness, which are discussed in the manuscript of Amanat Galunggung. The sociological perspective of Amanat Galunggung is very similar to the structural-functional theory. While, the concepts found in Kawruh Jiwo Ki Ageng Suryomentaram, such as the concepts of four division of human being, feeling (rasa) and intention (karep), and reciprocal relations between human and society. Those theories are genuine and authentical; and if the theories are developed, they will result in a typical of Nusantara sociological theory. Abstract:
The article is devoted to the gradual liquidation of the autonomous rights of left-bank Ukraine during the reign of Tsar Peter I (1682–1725). This process began in 1708 when during the ongoing Russo-Swedish War 1700–1721, Zaporizhia hetman Ivan Mazepa “betrayed” the tsar and turned it over to King Charles XII. This action was dictated by the desire of Mazepa’s supporters to shed Russian dependence and an attempt to create an independent (independent) Ukrainian state backed by Sweden and the Republic of Poland. Piotr I agreed to appoint successive hetmans – Ivan Skoropadski and Paweł Połubotka, but over the years he gradually limited their power. In 1722, the hetman’s office was liquidated, and control over the Ukrainian lands, for a short time until 1727, was taken over by the Malorossiya College – the Russian central office. According to Peter I, in the Russian Empire established in 1721, there was no room for any autonomous forms of power that could result in gaining independence. This reform lasted only two years, but it became a determinant for his successors as to how Ukrainian lands should be controlled and finallyabsorbed into Russia.

Abstract:
AbstractIn January 2012, a newderdé(traditional leader) of the Teda in northern Chad was officially appointed. Held in the Tibesti, a remote, notoriously unruly but strategically important part of the Sahara, the investiture ceremony was attended by Teda from throughout the country and neighboring Libya and Niger, as well as by an impressive number of Chadian civil servants and international diplomats. Yet the ceremony itself was short and messy. Similarly, the historical underpinnings of the institution of thederdéand the selection process were unclear, leaving much room for debate. This uncertainty appears to lie at the heart of the institution of thederdé. Far from a resurgence of “traditional authority” to make up for “state failure” or to partake in the restructuring of postcolonial states—as observed elsewhere on the African continent—the investiture ceremony confirmed the decentralized nature of Teda social organization and the absence of even attempted governance, both with regards to the Chadian state and local political institutions. What mattered from a local point of view were not long-term strategies of power and control, but rather the immediate and gloriously wasteful distribution of wealth. Admiring eyes were turned not toward thederdéor the state officials who appointed him, but instead toward high-ranking military officers, well-dressed urban Libyan Teda, and trans-border smugglers, models of rapid but often short-lived success. This provides a counterexample to the current emphasis on governance and power in the analysis of African states and politics.

Abstract:
Background. In modern Russian realities, mentoring is becoming a very popular method of professional development for the young teachers. Essential conditions for its effective implementation are the subject of research by teachers and psychologists, who offer a wide arsenal of pedagogical ideas and psychological classifications. Objective. The study had its purpose to identify the relationship between various substantive aspects of mentoring and teachers’ empathy, as well as to describe the essential characteristics of different modes of mentoring focusing on its active form. Study Participants. 73 English teachers of the Russian general education schools took part in the online survey. Methods. Teacher Mentoring Self-Efficacy Scale (TMSES) (Tickell, Klassen, 2024); Empathy Scale for Teachers (EST) (Wang et al., 2022) adapted in Russian (Chagina, Zabelina, 2022); short Big Five personality inventory (Gosling et al., 2003) adapted in Russian (Sergeeva et al., 2016). Results. Low ratings of respondents on a number of statements of the Teacher Mentoring Self-Efficacy Scale reflect their avoidance of intensive and time-consuming activities (experience comprehension, analyzing practices, organizing meetings), which constitute the content of the active type of mentoring. The respondents were best able to show respect and tact, give support and pay a sincere interest to their mentee, which characterizes the imitative type of mentoring. Exploratory factor analysis made it possible to identify 6 factors that make up the teachers mentoring self-efficacy. Correlation analysis revealed certain relationships between various aspects of the teachers’ effective mentoring and the Big Five personality factors, and also established some connections between teachers’ empathy and their prevailing forms (“modes”) of mentoring. Thus, the cognitive component of the teachers’ empathy turned out to be interconnected primarily with the mode “plan — do — review”, the positive affective empathy of teachers turned out to be associated with the modes “professionalism” and “inter- and intrapersonal intelligence”, while the negative affective empathy — with the modes “inter- and intrapersonal intelligence” and “teacher-practitioner”. Conclusion. The characteristics of active and imitative mentoring of teachers identified and described in the study, as well as their discovered relationships with teachers’ empathy and personality features, develop a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of interaction between mentors and mentees, which makes it possible to develop mentoring programs taking into account its productive forms and characteristics.

Abstract:
Non-isothermal trimerization kinetics of 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate (HMDI) in the reaction mixture with epoxy resin (ER) at a fixed ratio HMDI/ER = 85/15 (mass) catalyzed by differential concentrations of triethylene amine (TEA) was studied by differential calorimetry at four heating rates. In contrast to the simple single-step models, the isoconversional approach proved to describe quantitatively the reaction kinetics over the entire range of conversions, The apparent activation energies of the curing process and the corresponding pre-exponential factors tended to decrease smoothly, the higher the conversion, whereas a definite excess of the amine component turned out to be necessary to arrive at the maximum reaction rate.
