Not being a string player himself, Mark-Anthony Turnage approached his first concerto for a string instrument with some trepidation. It turns out that while the writing for the viola is idiomatic enough, Turnage has something of a love/hate relationship with traditional ideas about the concerto. Divided into two movements – Turnage admitted that in the unlikely event of his writing a symphony it would have three, five or six movements, never four – the new concerto (completed in 2001 and here given its UK première) has the expected cadenza but one that appears only 36 bars in! Such challenging attitudes to an old form characterize the new piece, subtitled On Opened Ground. Even so the work's structure – scherzando opening with slower coda, slow second movement and brisk chaconne finale – bring us back to the more usual reference points for a concerto. While he acknowledges the surprising influence of Walton ‘in the second movement’, the influence of that composer's own viola concerto is actually more pervasive than Turnage would have us believe. Even the title, while apparently making reference to Seamus Heaney's collection Opened Ground, seems to point more fruitfully to the ground bass of the second movement's chaconne. One thing is certainly as described: On Opened Ground is, as he claims, one of Turnage's most lyrical pieces and might win him an audience for whom the earlier astrigencies were too great.

A turntable is needed to simulate the motion of ground vehicles in laboratory. Such a turntable was presented in the paper. The basic structure of the turntable was that it could rotate around their own 3 axis, thus all forms of motion of ground vehicles could be simulated. The mechanical performance of the turntable was studied by virtual prototyping method using software CATIA, including structural characteristics, centroid, moment of inertia and turning space. Mechanical analysis was performed, the deformation and stress distribution of the turntable were analyzed. The modal analysis of the turntable was performed using FEM method. Those analysis results show the 3-axis turntable can simulate the motion of ground vehicles.

In the calibration process of the positioner, in order to obtain the accurate angular position information of each axis of the turntable, it is necessary to test the rotation accuracy of the turntable higher than the accuracy of the target gyroscope, in order to achieve the test and calibration of the positioner. Therefore, this paper uses the non-magnetic technology to carry out research on the pointing accuracy and motion control of the turntable. At the same time, the influence of grating installation error on precision detection is analysed. The influence of steady-state error of turntable on the motion accuracy of turntable is analysed. Finally, the influence of servo control parameters on the dynamic performance of turntable and the influence on steady-state error are analysed. The test of the corner positioning accuracy of the turntable is carried out. The positioning accuracy and motion control parameters of the two-axis precision non-magnetic turntable are obtained, and the PID adjustment is introduced to make the accuracy index of the non-magnetic turntable meet the requirements. The turntable can realize a non-magnetic working environment and can achieve the high precision required by the index under the driving of the ultrasonic motor.

Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) calibration accuracy is easily affected by turntable errors, so the primary aim of this study is to reduce the dependence on the turntable’s precision during the calibration process. Firstly, the indicated-output of the IMU considering turntable errors is constructed and with the introduction of turntable errors, the functional relationship between turntable errors and the indicated-output was derived. Then, based on a D-suboptimal design, a calibration method for simultaneously identifying the IMU error model parameters and the turntable errors was proposed. Simulation results showed that some turntable errors could thus be effectively calibrated and automatically compensated. Finally, the theoretical validity was verified through experiments. Compared with the traditional method, the method proposed in this paper can significantly reduce the influence of the turntable errors on the IMU calibration accuracy.

Bu çalışma karpal tünel sendromu cerrahisi uygulanan 25 hastada pnömotik turnike uygulamasının serum total oksidatif stres (TOS), total antioksidan kapasite (TAS), malondialdehit (MDA) ve glutatyon (GSH) düzeylerinde turnikenin farklı zamanlarında meydana gelen değişimlerin ortaya konulmasını amaçlamak için tasarlanmıştır. Çalışmaya karpal tünel sendromu tanısı alan ve cerrahi müdahale yapılan 25 hasta dahil edilmiş olup, hastalarının tamamında pnömotik turnike uygulandı. Hastalardan turnike uygulamasından 10 dakika önce, turnike uygulandıktan sonra 20. dakikada ve turnike açıldıktan 10 dakika sonra alınan kanlar 3500 rpm’de santrifüj edilerek serumları çıkarıldı. Elde edilen serumlardan TOS, TAS, MDA ve GSH düzeyleri kolorimetrik metodla spektrofotometrede bakıldı. Hastalardan elde edilen sonuçlar, turnike uygulamalarından sonra MDA ve TOS seviyelerinin yükseldiği, GSH ve TAS seviyelerinin azaldığını göstermiştir. Sonuç olarak, günümüzde sıklıkla görülen ve teşhisi konulmuş hastalara yaygın olarak yapılan karpal tünel sendromu ameliyatlarında cerrahi konforu artırmak amacıyla başvurulan turnike uygulamasına bağlı gelişen iskeminin ve turnike açıldıktan sonra gelişecek olan reperfüzyonun serum TOS, TAS, MDA ve GSH düzeyleri üzerinde nasıl bir değişim ortaya çıkardığı bu çalışma ile belirlenmiş olup, yapılacak olan çalışmalara katkı sunacaktır.

The motion accuracy of hydrostatic turntable is the key in improving the machining accuracy of heavy-duty machine tool. However, the motion accuracy of hydrostatic turntable depends not only on the offset load but also on the rotating speed of the turntable as well as the profile errors of the guide rails. In this paper, a simulation model is developed to analyze the effect of guide rail profile errors on the motion accuracy of hydrostatic turntable. The reaction forces of preload thrust bearing and hydrostatic circular oil pads are obtained based on the Reynolds equation of the lubricant film. The motion equations of hydrostatic turntable are derived in which the profile errors of two guide rails are considered. The results show that the motion accuracy of hydrostatic turntable can be affected by wavelength, amplitude of profile errors and speed, and offset load of turntable. Finally, the motion accuracy of heavy-duty hydrostatic turntable used in XCKA28105 type turning and milling composite machine tool is obtained by using the presented method. Comparing with the experimental results, the proposed model can be used to predict the machining accuracy caused by the profile errors of guide rails for any heavy-duty hydrostatic turntable.

Abstract:
Turnsole (Chrozophora tinctoria) is a common spring-summer weed in chickpea (Cicer arietinum) and other dry-land crop production areas in southern Spain. Under field conditions, this weed often develops a general wilt and eventual death associated with a vascular discoloration of stems and roots. Diseased turnsole plants frequently occurred together with chickpea plants affected by Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceris, a major disease of chickpea crops in southern Spain (1). Isolations from roots, stems and leaf petioles of turnsole plants consistently yielded F. oxysporum, and it was morphologically similar to F. oxysporum f. sp. ciceris. To test the pathogenicity of this fungus, germinated and previously surface-sterilized seeds of turnsole and chickpea cultivar Blanco Lechoso were planted in a greenhouse soil mixture artificially infested with four isolates of F. oxysporum from turnsole and two isolates of F. oxysporum f. sp. ciceris, one of them inducing the wilt syndrome and the other causing yellowing (1). Pathogenicity tests were conducted following the standard inoculation method used for F. oxysporum in chickpea (1). Inoculated and control plants were maintained in a greenhouse at 15 to 30°C. Isolates of F. oxysporum from turnsole caused wilt symptoms and death of turnsole plants within 2 months, but chickpea isolates did not affect turnsole. Conversely, chickpea plants were affected only by the two isolates of F. oxysporum f. sp. ciceris from chickpea. All diseased chickpea and turnsole plants exhibited typical vascular discoloration. F. oxysporum was consistently reisolated from the vascular tissues of roots, stems, and leaf petioles of affected plants. Based on these results, the fungus causing wilt of turnsole was identified as a forma specialis of F. oxysporum different from the chickpea wilt pathogen. Since the Fusarium wilt diseases of turnsole and chickpea are caused by different pathogens, the occurrence of F. oxysporum causing wilt of turnsole in the field can not be used to forecast Fusarium wilt of chickpea, but it may be considered as a potential biocontrol agent of this weed under field conditions. This paper proposes an odor source localization method based on bionic olfaction. The special nasal cavity and turnable head make mammalian have excellent odor source localization ability. According to this principle, a turnable bionic odor sensing device is proposed by this paper for odor source localization system. This sensing device can rotate freely within the range level 360°, and the detection directions of its sensing channels are different. This also proposes a pattern recognition algorithm based on K-L transform to analyze the data collected by odor sensing device, and the features of odor source are extracted correctly. Experimental results for odor source localization demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach.

Based on the analysis of geometric errors of mechanism assembling, this paper applies the multi-body system kinematics theory in building the orientation error model of three-axis turntable induced by assembling errors. The dynamic tilting of high-precision turntable has a very significant impact on the parameters of measurement and processing during the operation.In order to achieve long-term stability and control the turntable’s dynamic tilting angle at the second level, only improving the mechanical precision of the turntable is not realistic, and it may greatly enhance the cost of the turntable. A precision turntable dynamic tilting test method based on laser and CCD technology is put forward in this paper. The system uses laser as the light source, and uses CCD image sensor to receive the reflected signal of the turntable. According to the amount movement of the laser spot on the CCD target surface and the corresponding geometric relationships, we can measure the inclination error of the turntable. During debugging analysis and practical application, it proves that the system can achieve differentiate accuracy at the second level and meet the needs of online measurement.

Purpose. In the recent years, horizontal rotation methods have been widely used for bridge construction, particularly for constructing overpass bridges on highways, railways, and shipping. However, bridges constructed using the swivel construction method bear several types of loads during the rotation process. Furthermore, the bridge turntable, which is the core force-bearing component of the structure, bears considerably large vertical pressure and horizontal frictional resistance. The present research proposes three strengthening methods when applying ultrahigh performance concrete (UHPC) materials to the turntable of a spherical hinge to improve structural reliability. Furthermore, the mechanical properties of the structure are evaluated using a unidirectional compressive strength test to provide a theoretical and experimental basis for the application of the UHPC material. Design/Methodology/Approach. To evaluate the mechanical performance of the turntable of a spherical hinge, scale models of six sets of UHPC turntables—steel tube-UHPC, stirrup-UHPC, and directional steel fiber UHPC—were constructed in the study. The compressive strengths of the turntable specimens were calculated after theoretical analysis. After obtaining the load-displacement curves of the cube specimens, the force characteristics of the turntable and the failure mechanism of the structure were analyzed by observing the failure mode of the specimens. Findings. The compressive strength of the steel tube-UHPC turntable was 207 MPa, which can completely replace the traditional steel turntable. In addition, the stirrup-UHPC turntable demonstrated a significant loading effect. However, the effect of the restraint radius of the stirrup needs to be considered during the design; otherwise, the loading effect is poor. Furthermore, a directional steel fiber UHPC turntable can improve the compressive strength to a certain extent. We summarize the failure mechanism of the spherical hinge turntable specimens that are expected to play a role in UHPC spherical hinge in engineering applications and construction monitoring. Originality/Value. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to employ the UHPC, steel tube-UHPC, stirrup-UHPC, and directional steel fiber spherical hinge turntables in the swivel construction of bridges. The compressive strength and mechanical characteristics of the UHPC structure meet the requirements of the turntable, and more importantly, the manufacturing process (on-site pouring) of the aforementioned UHPC turntable structures is relatively simple. Finally, the manufacturing cost of the turntables is expected to be reduced by more than 50% compared to those of traditional turntables.

In fulfillment of a commission from the BBC for a work in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the BBC Symphony Chorus, Mark-Anthony Turnage produced Calmo, an untypically quiet and gentle work for chorus with handbells – and, what has become something of a signature instrument for him, desk bells. The text of the work consists of the words ‘Dona nobis pacem’ and their translations in several languages. It is dedicated to the memory of Turnage's friend Sue Knussen. Calmo's intense eloquence was enhanced by its brevity, and, both despite and because of it, stood out in a program of music for chorus, harp, and organ by an assortment of older and newer Czech and British Composers, including Janáček, MacMillan, Holst, and Eben, presented by the BBC Symphony Chorus, conducted by Stephen Jackson.

Using Ansys Workbench software platform analysis the order modal of the turntable, get the kinetic parameters of the system. Some suggestion and methods are proposed on avoiding vibration of turntable system.

Adapun hasil yang diperoleh: persentase rata-rata aktivitas siswa pada tiap pertemuannya meningkat yaitu dari pertemuan I (56,69%) ke pertemuan II (61,61%) ke pertemuan III (63,40%). dari pengolahan data hasil posttest kelas VIIIA sebagai kelas eksperimen, kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika menggunakan model active learning teknik turnamen belajar diperoleh rata-rata 81,06% dengan kriteria penilaian tinggi; kelas VIIIA sebagai kelas kontrol dengan menggunakan model konvensional kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa rata-ratanya adalah 74,44% dengan kriteria penilaian cukup; berdasarkan hasil perhitungan menggunakan SPSS 16.0 for window diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa pembelajaran dengan model active learning teknik turnamen belajar lebih baik dibandingkan pembelajaran dengan model konvensional pada sub pokok kubus dan balok sehingga dapat meninggkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa.

Calibration tests are of great importance to ensure rate-sensing accuracy of GyroWheel, an innovative attitude determination and control device. In the process of calibration tests, turntable errors are inevitable, which hinder the calibration accuracy and rate-sensing capability. Hence, error analysis for GyroWheel calibration tests is conducted, and the relationship between the calibration accuracy and the orientation error is established based on analytical derivation and numerical simulations. Subsequently, an error model of the turntable system is derived using rigid body kinematics, by which the relationship between the orientation error and turntable errors is described. According to sensitivity analysis and manufacturing capability, an error allocation method is proposed to determine the accuracy requirement of the test turntable, and the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by repeated simulation tests. Based on the presented analysis and proposed method in this paper, the effects of various turntable errors on the calibration accuracy can be obtained quantitatively, and a theoretical basis for the determination of the turntable accuracy is provided, which are of great significance to guide the calibration tests and improve the calibration accuracy of GyroWheel.

This paper reports a programme of laboratory research to assess the potential of a new form of aircraft attitude indicator. The Ambient Attitude Indicator (AAI), designed to exploit the characteristics of the ambient visual system, provides a continuous source of world-stabilized orientation information to the pilot's ambient visual system. In laboratory experiments, the first of which is reported here, the effects of peripheral visual cues on subjects' control of continuous self-stabilization in roll are assessed. Subjects, seated on a roll turntable, were required to null a continuous quasi-random forcing function using a velocity-control joystick. Their objective was to maintain a stable upright orientation. Three visual conditions were studied: no visual cues, world-stabilized peripheral visual cues, and turntable-stabilized peripheral visual cues. Significant effects of visual condition were found for measures of joystick RMS displacement, turntable RMS error, and frequency of changes of direction of the turntable. World-stabilized conditions resulted in the highest joystick RMS displacement, the lowest turntable RMS error, and the highest frequency of changes of direction of the turntable. A linear transfer function, with autoregressive noise process to represent the remnant, was fitted to the data using maximum likelihood estimation. Details of subjects' frequency response are presented and the effects of practice on these measures are also considered.

There are few studies on optimizing the dynamic and static characteristics of direct-drive turntables. In terms of dynamic and static characteristic analysis, most studies only analyze the dynamic and static characteristics of direct-drive turntables in a single machining position and working condition. The optimization is mainly for individual parts without considering the overall structure of the turntable. A multi-objective optimization method based on the back-propagation neural network (BP) and the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm is proposed to ensure the machining accuracy of the direct-drive turntable, reduce the total mass, and improve its dynamic and static characteristics. In this paper, the workpiece and direct-drive turntable are studied as a whole. Static and modal analyses determine the maximum deformation locations and vulnerable parts of the turntable. Topology optimization analysis was used to find the redundant mass parts. We determined the optimization objectives and dimensional parameters based on the direct-drive turntable’s structural and topology optimization results. Using a central composite experimental design, we obtained test points and fitted them to a response surface model using a BP neural network. A multi-objective genetic algorithm then obtained the optimal solution. After multi-objective optimization, we reduced the mass of the direct-drive turntable by 9.02% and 21.394% compared with the topologically optimized and original models, respectively. The dynamic and static characteristics of the direct-drive turntable increased, and a lightweight design was achieved.

In order to solve the problem that there is no effective evaluation method for the precision degradation state of inertial test turntable, a prediction model for the position precision degradation trend of test turntable was proposed based on the Hidden Markov Model (HMM) algorithm and Particle Filter (PF) algorithm. The initial parameter of the PF algorithm was optimized by the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. The vibration signal was selected as the research data, which could be obtained from an velocity test of turntable precision degradation. Firstly, the original vibration signal was denoised by Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition and Principal Component Analysis (EEMD-PCA) algorithm, and the signal with fault characteristic was extracted for signal reconstruction; Secondly, a HMM model could be trained by using the statistical characteristic values as observation matrix, and the diagnosis of early position precision degradation and the health state indexes could be obtained. Finally, a prediction model of the test turntable precision degradation could be established by using PF algorithm, and the Remaining Useful Life (RUL) of the test turntable precision could be calculated. When the 50th group data were taken as the prediction starting point, the predicted remaining useful life was 21 years, and the actual measured result was 17 years, which are close to each other. Comparing the model calculation results and the test measurement results, it is shown that the model could effectively and accurately predict the change trend and remaining useful life of the test turntable precision.

Therefore, the coupling problem of three-axis ship motion simulation turntable was analyzed profoundly. Then, on the basis of the analysis, in order to restrain the disturbance of coupling torque, the method of dynamic robust compensation based on decoupling control was given. Finally, the compound control strategy including PID control, velocity feedback, position feedback ,input signal differential feedforward and dynamic robust compensation was employed, and a electromechanical Co-simulation of three-axis turntable based on ADAMS and MATLAB was completed. The results of the Co-simulation prove that the method given in this paper can restrain coupling disturbance and improve dynamic tracking performance of three-axis simulation turntable
