Abstract:
The implementation of Wavelength Division Multiplexing system (WDM) optical fibre transmission systems has the potential to realise this high capacity data rate exceeding 10 Tb/s. The ability to reconfigure optical networks is a desirable attribute for future metro applications where light paths can be set up or taken down dynamically as required in the network. The use of microelectronics in conjunction with photonics enables intelligence to be added to the high-speed capability of photonics, thus realising reconfigurable optical devices which can revolutionise optical telecommunications and many more application areas. In this thesis, we investigate and demonstrate the capability of Opto-VLSI processors to realise a reconfigurable WDM optical device of many functions, namely, optical multiband filtering, optical notch filtering, and reconfigurable-Optical-Add-Drop Multiplexing (ROADM). We review the potential technologies available for tunable WDM components, and discuss their advantages and disadvantages. We also develop a simple yet effective algorithm that optimises the performance of Opto-VLSI processors, and demonstrate experimentally the multi-function WDM devices employing Opto-VLSI processors. Finally, the feasibility of Opto-VLSI-based WDM devices in meeting the stringent requirements of the optical communications industry is discussed.

Abstract:
This report is about the project of improving an existing program in order to make it more useful. The program simulates a kind of production cell that consist of different components that are controlled by a special controller program. By analyzing the program, several aspects that could be improved were found and those were grouped into three different parts of the problem. The first one is about improving the realism and precision of the simulation. Issues such as unrealistic movement of the components and other types of actions that are different than a real production cell are addressed in this part. Detection of unwanted situations is the second part of the problem. Here unwanted movement and contact are some situations that need to be checked. The final part of the problem is about improving the visualization in the simulator. There are several ways to visualize the production cell that would involve to either use 2D images or 3D models.
Denna rapport handlar om projektet att förbättra ett redan existerande program för att göra det mer användbart. Programmet simulerar en sorts produktionscell som består av olika komponenter som kontrolleras av ett speciellt kontroller-program. Genom att analysera programmet, hittades flera aspekter att förbättra och dessa grupperades i tre grupper som utgjorde problemet. Den första delen handlar om att förbättra realismen samt precisionen på simulationen. Problem såsom orealistisk förflyttning av komponenterna och andra typer av händelser som skiljer sig från vad som händer i en riktig produktionscell kommer att tas upp i denna del. Detektion av oönskade situationer är den andra delen av problemet. Här är oönskad rörelse och kontakt några situationer som behöver kontrolleras. Den sista delen av problemet handlar om att förbättra visualiseringen i simulatorn. Det finns flera olika sätt att visualisera produktionscellen som skulle involvera att antingen använda 2D bilder eller 3D modeller.

Abstract:
This thesis aplied tools of economic analysis on situation in poker, where players choose to finish tournament or make a deal and take certain amount of money immediately. Theoretical frame consists of economic theories for decesion under risk and poker literature. Hypotheses are tested with regresion analysis on dataset which I obtain by my own observing. Estimations support hypothesis that players are risk-averze and loss-averze. In bigger tournaments are bigger prizepools and that is the reason, why players in bigger tournament make deals more often. Moreover deal is more likely, when players are approximetly equal skilled in poker.

Abstract:
This thesis is about the creation of a simulator of football leagues and championships. I studied the problematics of football competitions and their systems and also about the base of machine learning. There was also an analysis of similar and existing solutions and I took inspiration for my proposal from them. After that, I made the design of the whole simulator structure and of all of its key parts. Then the simulator was implemented and tested. The application allows simulating top five competitions in UEFA club coefficients rating.

Práce se zabývá rozvrhováním sportovních turnajů. Turnaje se rozvrhují podle různých losovacích tabulek, které jsou v práci popsány a následně také porovnány na základě předem stanovených požadavků na losovací tabulky. Vše je ukázáno na příkladě konkrétního turnaje. Při tvorbě těchto tabulek se využívají mimo jiné i poznatky vycházející z teorie grafů a kombinatorických optimalizačních metod.

This thesis proposes a model of creative activity on the computer incorporating the elements of programming, graphics, sound generation, and physical interaction. An interface for manipulating these elements is suggested, based on the concept of a disk-jockey turntable as a performance instrument. A system is developed around this idea, enabling optical pickup of visual information from physical media as input to processes on the computer. Software architecture(s) are discussed and examples are implemented, illustrating the potential uses of the interface for the purpose of creative expression in the virtual domain.

Abstract:
Through various primary and secondary research methods, a University of Arizona technology from the Optics Department was analyzed in terms of new venture viability and sustainability in Southern Arizona. Tunable Fourier Transform Spectropolarimeter (TFTS) has applications in military, biology and astronomy by using polarization to distinguish different objects such as cancer cells. The technology measures details of how an object within an image can change the polarization of light compared to how other object in that same image changes the polarization. Innovative aspects of the technology include tenability, achromaticity and the bandwidth size. The technology however only worked in a laboratory setting and further development was ceased due to lack of funding and interest from outside investor groups. Primary data sources included the inventor (Dr. Dereniak), the lead optics licensor (Amy Phillips), cancer center employees (Dr. Bartels, Mr. Yozwiak), and patent application. Secondary sources included, but not limited to, informational databases, medical journals, optical journals, office of technology transfer, and small business innovation research. Based on information gathered and consulting work, two recommendations were presented to increase the likelihood of the University benefiting from innovation: *Addition of an Innovation Fund to yearly Tucson conference called Idea Funding. Innovation Fund is a $50,000 prize for the most promising technology based on detailed criteria. Along with the prize, remaining competitors would receive needed exposure to increase funding possibility. *Creation of a research funding position at the Office of Technology Transfer. It would be the duty of this employee to research and aid in the grant application process for all of the technologies at the OTT.

Abstract:
An investigation in to a novel pivot point free external cavity tunable laser (PPI ECTL). Existing external cavity tunable lasers are constructed using tunable optics, such as Bragg gratings to manipulate the cavity length. These elements although functional provide instability with prolonged use as they are defined by a centre of rotation or pivot point. The aim of this research was to provide a lab demonstrator of a new concept tunable laser based on conventional designs. The novel approach to the system design was in the removal of a defined pivot point, whilst still maintaining a moving optical component. The demonstration system will investigate the improvements upon traditional methods of tuning whilst providing greater tuning range and stability. The main defect of conventional systems was the reliance on the defined pivot point of the movable optics. By changing the position of the pivot point, the cavity length will change and the laser mode will change or hop to a side mode. This was known as a mode hop. The objective of the research was to design and implement a durable ECTL with a large tuning range (>200GHz), mode hop free tuning, fibre coupled, circular output beam and a wavelength in the visible. Design and production of a prototype PPI ECT laser that demonstrate the process of mode hop free tuning without the need of a defined pivot point. The impact of the research may lead in to the integration in to lower cost and more reliable commercial applications.

Detta examensarbete har undersökt vilka komponenter och vilken kontrollstrategi som ska användas i realiseringen av ett två-frihetsgradigt roteringsbord för antennkaraktärisering. De viktigaste komponenterna i roteringsbordet var de två motorerna som sköter varsin rotation. För att säkerhetsställa EMC i roteringsbordet valdes borstlösa DC motorer. Regleringen av dessa motorer kontrolleras av en regelbaserad onlineinställd PID regulator. Simuleringar av den nya designen av roteringsbordet utfördes i Simulink och Matlab och visade upp lovande resultat för både positioneringen och styrningen av elektromagnetiska störningar. Från ett momentant steg-input, vilket i en vanlig kontroller genererar hög EMI, så kunde den regelbaserade kontrollern istället skapa en mjuk, och därmed EMC-vänlig signal till motorerna.
This Master’s thesis has investigated which components and what control strategy shall be used to develop a two-degree-of-freedom turntable for antenna characterisations. The mechanical design of the turntable was firstly implemented, on which basis the electrical components were chosen. The most important components in the turntable are the two motors, each of which handles one degree of freedom. To avoid electromagnetic interference, the brushless DC motor type was chosen. These motors were thereafter designed to be controlled by a rule-based online tuned PID controller. Simulations of the new turntable design showed promising results, in both positioning accuracy and controllability of electromagnetic interference. Under a step input of the desired position, a conventional controller would generate an instantaneous and aggressive control signal (voltage demand), i.e. high electromagnetic interference. By contrast the rule-based controller could create a smooth inclining voltage demand, thus reducing the EMI from the motors.

Os estudos de Gerenciamento de Impressões têm sido ampliados na perspectiva internacional. No Brasil, alguns trabalhos têm apresentado este construto associados a diversos contextos organizacionais. Com a ampliação destes estudos, surge a necessidade de ferramentas para estudar e avaliar as suas dimensões em contextos distintos. O presente estudo possui o objetivo de validar a escala de Bolino e Turnley (1999) de Gerenciamento de Impressões nas Organizações para o português do Brasil. Para isso, dois estudos foram conduzidos com o primeiro sendo aplicado numa das maiores empresas brasileiras de petróleo, com amostra de 1679 respondentes, com as escalas de GI, Personalidade e Envolvimento com o trabalho; e o segundo estudo com indivíduos brasileiros com vínculo empregatício com 581 questionários válidos, nos quais foram aplicadas as escalas de GI e a escala de Civismo nas Organizações. Os resultados confirmaram a estrutura fatorial composta pelas cinco estratégias de Gerenciamento de Impressões. Para a validação do construto, foram feitas correlações com o modelo Big Five de Personalidade, com o Envolvimento com o Trabalho e com o Civismo nas Organizações, além da demonstração de afetividade positiva no trabalho. Foram encontradas correlações significativas que contribuíram para que as hipóteses fossem suportadas. Por fim, são sugeridos novos caminhos para o uso da escala GI-5 em pesquisas futuras

Abstract:
Logsdon River is a major, base-level stream within the Turnhole Bend Drainage basin of the Mammoth Cave System. The Logsdon River system has provided a unique opportunity to examine the geochemical evolution of a stream flowing through a major karst conduit that can be traversed for 10 km. This study examines CO2 inputs at the upstream portion of the river, which provide major control for the river’s hydrochemistry. Samples were collected from the upstream portion of Logsdon River at what is referred to as the S-188 sump and also nearby at Crowbar Dome over the course of 44 weeks from May 2012 through April 2013. The concentrations of CO2 for samples were calculated from field and laboratory analysis. The CO2 concentrations were examined during the study period to assess potential sources of CO2 input to the karst system in the context of seasonal variation. Seasonal fluctuations were found to be greatest in the near surface sample site, Crowbar Dome. Attenuation of seasonal variation of CO2 pressures in the upstream Logsdon River S-188 Sump suggests both surface inputs plus additional inputs of CO2 entering the system, perhaps from the decay of organic material in the saturated passages upstream beyond the accessible portion of the Logsdon River S-188 Sump. This in-cave source of CO2 has some control on hydrochemistry, and thus waterrock interaction and speleogenesis of the karst landscapes in south-central Kentucky

The main object of this thesis was foundation of a travel agency dealing with the golf tourism for wealthy Vietnamese citizens to Europe, organizing tournaments and providing additional services exclusively for the target clientele. In the theoretical part I looked at the introduction of golf as a global sport that is gaining a raising popularity each year, insight into Vietnam especially from the view of its special relationship with the Czech Republic and the definition of an entrepreneurship and a business plan. The practical part then includes the actual business plan with all the necessities and provides information on what, how, to whom and for how much the company wants to offer. The goal of this thesis was to create the right tool for establishing the company and to make a decision of meaning of this project on its basis.

Lorsque Pierre de Larivey publie ses six premières comédies en 1579, la comédie n'a pas encore répondu totalement aux aspirations des auteurs de la première génération de la Pléiade qui prétendaient enrichir la langue française, combattre le latin et la farce, et exalter la grandeur nationale de la France par l'imitation des texte antiques et italiens qu'ils traduisaient. Malgré les nouveautés proposées, il faudra attendre la seconde génération d'auteurs comiques, parmi lesquels Larivey est le meilleur représentant, pour que la comédie puisse s'imposer et prétendre rivaliser avec le modèle italien, dont elle tire profit, et le genre noble de la tragédie. Le type de réponse apporté, et plus particulièrement le travail effectué par Larivey pour repenser ce genre en devenir, suscite dès lors des interrogations. Par ailleurs, si l'ensemble des neuf pièces de Larivey semble désigner ce traducteur/adaptateur de pièces italiennes comme le principal actant du renouvellement et de l'émancipation de la comédie française à partir de l'apport italien, d'autres italianisants de la même génération, tels Louis Le Jars, François d'Amboise et Odet de Turnèbe, ont également pris part à ce grand projet qui, tout en rénovant le genre comique lui-même, participe de l'évolution et de l'affirmation de la langue française. Notre étude se propose donc, à partir de la lecture du comique d'œuvres publiées fin XVIe-début XVIIe siècle, de déterminer la nature des liens qui unissent ces dramaturges et de mieux comprendre comment la comédie française a pu être renouvelée et mise au service de leurs aspirations les plus nobles et les plus ambitieuses
Pierre de Larivey published his first six comedies in 1579, before the theatrical comedy had managed to fulfill the aspirations of the first generation of la Pleiade authors – namely, to enrich the French language, to fight Latin and farce, and to exalt the greatness of the French nation by imitating the very Ancient and Italian texts they translated. In spite of the innovations this first generation of authors introduced, it was not until the second generation, among whom Larivey is the best representative, that the comedy was able to come into its own, and to challenge the Italian model, of which it takes advantage, and to rival as well the noble genre of the tragedy. The precise nature of the innovations they introduced, and more specifically the actual work done by Larivey to rethink this evolving genre, both raise profound questions from this point forward. Larivey’s nine plays seem to designate this translator/adaptor of Italian plays as the main agent of the revival and emancipator of the French comedy from its Italian roots. But other Italianates of the same generation, such as Louis le Jars, Francois d’Ambroise, and Odet de Turnèbe, also took part in this ambitious project, which not only revitalized the comic genre, but also contributed to the evolution and affirmation of the French language itself. From the close reading of comic works published from the late sixteenth to the early seventeenth centuries, this study aims to determine the nature of the links between these playwrights, and to understand better how they helped to revitalize the French comedy and to place it at the service of their noblest and most ambitious aspirations

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to verify the hypothesis on real data based on economic theory and these theories to confirm or reject. The first part deals with testing of hypotheses based on the game theory and tests whether tennis players play according to the minimax theory. The Hypotheses analyse the data for strong and weak players, considering their service, and verify which group of players converge in their strategies toward minimax theory assumptions. Specifically, theory components of the hypotheses are tested within this part: i) the probability of winning the game serving from the right side of a court is the same as the probability of winning the game serving from the left side, ii) this hypothesis will hold true rather in case of stronger players serving against weaker players than in case equally strong players playing against each other and iii) Based on the assumption that women do not excel distinctively in serving, the results in the women's matches will be worse in the minimax theory than results from men's matches. Hypotheses derived from the theory of elimination tournaments are tested in the second part of the diploma thesis. The hypotheses are analysed on the tennis data whether players make less effort in uneven tournaments, regardless of their position as favourite or outsider, than the theory presumes. The analysis of the above mentioned hypotheses was performed on the data from the Grand Slam tournaments in the years 2011 and 2012. Hypotheses are tested using both male and female data. The results obtained from analysis of the data confirm the hypotheses.

This report provides a recommendation for the purchase of a rotary table intendedmainly for 3D body scanning. This recommendation is presented to FabLab,Halmstad University. The proposal is based on the needs and requirements discussed and defined among group members, clients and other stakeholders. The main requirement is that the product can be programmed and controlled by acomputer. This requirement was strengthened through the execution of a pairwise comparison. A broad market research is described and methods that have been used to achieve the results. In order to better understand how much the load will affect the product, a force measurement test was performed and analyzed. Earlier reports about reverse engineering, different applications and scanning techniques provide a deeper understanding of factors that may affect the selection of the product.

The diploma thesis deals with satisfaction measurement of participants of sport event. This sports event is international junior curling cup in Prague. The aim of thesis is to analyze participants satisfaction with this tournament. Based on these results some critical factors will be identified and also recommendations for organizers of the tournament will be listed to improve the quality of the tournament for next years. In a first part of the thesis there are described customer satisfaction theory and techniques for its measurements. According to suitability for this case the questionnaire survey will be applied. After short introduction to the tournament and some curling rules and specifics analysis of the survey results will be described. More evaluation methods will be used. Based on results from this analysis recommendations for tournament improvement will be given.

This dissertation consists of five articles about economics of sports. The first three articles investigate various types of outcome uncertainty and how they relate to match attendance demand, while the remaining two articles test the efficiency of sports betting markets. The first article presents a new method of calculating match importance. Unlike the previous approaches in the literature, it does not require ex-post information and can be used for any type of season outcome. The second article shows that the additional playoff stage in the Czech ice hockey "Extraliga" lowers the probability of the strongest team becoming a champion and thus increases seasonal uncertainty. The third article demonstrates that the inconsistent findings in the literature about the link between match uncertainty and attendance could be explained by wrongly specified regressions, proposes a new approach to analyzing the effect of match uncertainty and shows that attendance demand is maximized if teams of the same quality play against each other. The fourth article examines the favorite-longshot bias in the context of betting on tennis matches. It shows that the favorite-longshot bias pattern is consistent with bookmakers protecting themselves against both better informed insiders and the general public exploiting new information. The fifth article investigates the supposedly profitable strategy of betting on soccer draws using the Fibonacci sequence. The strategy is tested both in a simulated market and on a real data set and found to lose money.

The thesis is aimed to analyze parameters of antennas, and work out the computer, which can be used to the modeling of the radiation of antennas of the VUT 100 aircraft. First, used antennas are divided according to the operation frequencies, and the polarization. Second, a MATLAB program is developed and described. The program computes radiation patterns at different frequencies for the different location of antennas on the VUT aircraft. Finally, the MATLAB optimization program is develop and described. The program changes the position of antennas so that the requirements of aircraft producer can be met.

Title: Management of the McDonald's Cup 2015 final tournament Objectives: The main objective of this thesis is to provide a detailed analysis of the management of the McDonald's Cup 2015 final tournament known as the Festival of Football, to present its strengths, weaknesses, potential opportunities and threats and then, based on previous analyses, to create a list of suggestions and recommendations leading to the elimination of the weaknesses and threats and thus to development, increase of the popularity and to improvement of the hosting the McDonald's Cup in the next years. Methods: In order to achieve the objectives of this thesis, within the case study methods of participating observation, informal in-depth interview, document analysis and SWOT analysis were used. Results: The thesis describes in detail the whole process of organizing the mentioned youth sports event from the preparatory phase through the planning phase and implementation to completion and evaluation. The case study revealed deficiencies of the event especially in the area of financial security, promotion and in the event program. On this basis, a series of suggestions and recommendations leading to the elimination of these deficiencies and to further development of the project in the next years. These results are partially...

Title: The organization of tournament within the scope of handball education at primary school. Objectives: The main objective of this thesis is to verify how different organization of handball tournament affects the efficiency of teaching or what type of tournament is more interesting for pupils and which one they would prefer themselves. Another objective is to determine whether the pupils would be interested in annual organizing of tournament. Our task is to organize two different tournaments, knock-out tournament and group tournament. By using the questionnaire method we get the information which consequently evaluate and use for determining of the conclusion of this thesis. Methods: We used questionnaire method and comparison method in this thesis. We applied questionnaire method in analysis of particular tournaments and comparison method in comparing of tournament responses. Results: We discovered that the tournament organized by group method is more efficient for pupils then the knock-out tournament. We observed the same result by organizing the annual tournament where the pupils were also more interested in group tournament. Name of submitter: Problems of food adolescent tennis players during the tournament Prae Objective: To determine the current status of food adolescent tennis players in the Czech Republic, the age group 12-15 years, during tournaments held in Prague. Check their interest and knowledge about nutrition and to assess options their meals in catering establishments tennis courts taking into account the principles of good nutrition. Method: To carry out this investigation, I chose the method of voting. The study group of players to match the writing survey questions ascertaining their level of dietary zvyklosti.Dále I conducted surveys among groups Parents of players who form the interview answered questions listed issues. In tournaments, which I visited for the purpose of investigation, I investigated dining options players in dining establishments, which were available to participants of tournaments with regard to the principles of healthy nutrition. The method chosen public inquiry has proved to be a quick way learn basic food groups of players, but for thorough and objective treatment of this topic would be appropriate to use other methods. Results: The results obtained showed that in the monitored group of players They are relatively little knowledge on healthy sports nutrition. It is therefore necessary so...
