Full textThe undeniable importance of the asset value of historic garden as testimony and reference of past eras has been growing in Portugal through studies, publications and initiatives which reinforce its value recognition. Despite the advances and efforts made for the recovery of historic gardens, the recognition of its value is still far from general public recognition. This dissertation intends to be a contribution to an effective heritage management, based on the acknowledgement of historical gardens heritage importance and on its demands. The tourism integration emerges as a possible proposal for the achievement of such goals, in order to promote their protection, by assigning a use or a function since, in most gardens, is recognized the needed potential to implement a demanding tour. The main goals of this work are the analysis of the situation of Portuguese gardens, by data collection through a survey; the contribution for a database development for AJH, and the preliminary proposal of a Website, which intends to enable the creation of tourist routes through historic gardens, and promote de value of historical gardens in Portugal

Full textThe present work aims to ponder on the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in Archaeology, in particular on the role of Tourism as an useful e interesting discipline to stimulate reflections about projects with the aim of a decolonizing Archaeology which is aware of its social role. In the study carried out in this thesis other two disciplines are important, namely Anthropology e Museology. From international examples that provide elements to instigate a debate over how Archaeological Tourism has been understood in other realities, here is presented a brief analysis of archaeological attractions developed for the national archaeological Conventional Tourism in Brazil. These discussions permeate three case studies in which Tourism, inserted in archaeological projects spurred reflections about patrimonial property, creating opportunities of sustainability e social inclusion for the communities involved
Carbone, Fabio. "Cultural heritage quality management: analysis of archaeological heritage managers' perception." Doctoral thesis, Universidade de Aveiro, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10773/16439.
Full textWith this work we propose to analyze the perception of the concept of quality by managers of museums and archaeological sites. To this end, we chose to analyze some heritage areas open to the public and certified by HERITY - World Organisation for the Certification of Quality Management of Cultural Heritage, the only international certification of this kind which has been officially recognized by UNESCO and the World Tourism Organization. The application of the principles of quality and Total Quality Management to cultural heritage management is part of the efforts towards a continuous improvement of the cultural tourism offer and - in our opinion – towards an increasing capacity to promote intercultural dialogue between local population and visitors. In this context, we have therefore investigated the perception of quality within the context of cultural heritage management, and how the culture of quality can provide a greater involvement of local communities, contributing to the strengthening of authenticity and destination personality, as well as the promotion of intercultural dialogue between tourists and residents. To answer these questions, we have defined a theoretical model and subsequently carried out an empirical work at European level on the perception of quality by managers of cultural heritage sites, namely archaeological heritage. An in-depth comprehension of areas such as Archeology, Tourism and Quality Management, as well as its role within the broader context of sustainable regional development, are the basis of this work. The latter is intended, in turn, to be a vehicle of reflection within the creation of public policies on territorial management and tourism development. We thus undertook a research line which is still almost unexplored, that is, the analysis of quality principles within the cultural heritage management, their potential and the measurement of their actual impact on the territory, through an integrated approach, by considering in a specular, complex way the two main beneficiaries: residents and tourists.

Full textThis study set analysis on the dialectic process between the global and local scales through the relation between the cultural heritage and tourism. Globalization, as long as a dynamics coming from the dialogue between the global and local range arises different interpretative ways, among them the ones that involve cultural heritage and tourism. Subsequently the scales concept and its mutual character it’s used to make explicit that dynamics leaded by the emergence of techniques that limits and are limited by the social environment. At the same time, the nets concept make the foundation for that scenario like connections between the global and the local range that emphasizes its selective mood, because, notwithstanding being global nets, they aren’t universal. Thus, in this work, are discussed two propositions. The first, argues the relevance from the place over the global dynamics in the intellectual authentication for the cultural heritage preservation that express itself as a reference from the place by its social and historical relevance. In this circumstance are found the grounds against the wicked globalization where the capital and information reigns, arising the place’s defensiveness. The second, where the cultural heritage is set on analysis as the basis for tourism that, under the capitalist point of view, determines the logical knowledge of competitiveness between the places, where each place make use of its best goodness and put it at disposal for consumption (localization, landscape, culture) aiming to get ant stay in the global dynamics. Departing from this two propositions, this study analyses the connections and oppositions between them, no matter if to discuss the global changes or to argue in favor to the local authenticity.

Abstract: The subordination of culture to the rules of the market over the last decades has changed the uses and the senses of the cultural heritage as it is transformed in goods to the masses¿ enjoyment. This process has caused many material and symbolic changes in some parts of the territory through the refunctionalisation of the tourist cultural heritage and the conformation of new territorialities in the most densely appropriated urban central areas by tourism. The analysis of these changes in the city of Ouro Preto, considered as one of the most traditional national tourist destinations, shows that the process of tourist refunctionalisation of the cultural heritage is in a concentrated space, limited to the central parts of the officially protected by the government perimeter, where the majority of the visited attractions is located and as a result where there is the largest flow of visitors, equipment and services required by this activity. This piece of territory called in this survey as the tourist nucleus of Ouro Preto is also considered as the commercial and services center of the city. It keeps a functional multiplicity intended for supplying the external and local demands and it is constituted mainly by students and wealthy elderly people. The functional and social diversity of this nucleus, as a result of this particularism, promotes the adaptation, coexistence and/or conflicts between the local territorialities, formed by inhabitants and students and the new territorialities that come from tourism limited by competitions of interest involving the public service, private sector and the civil society. This social-territorial dynamics, besides highlighting the local particularism, also shows the new material and symbolic relations existing among society, heritage and territory in Ouro Preto

ABSTRACT: The island of São Tomé is a territory that is associated to two different urban realities: one of them its "roças" and the other one of its cities. The "roça" of Porto Alegre is the object of study of this document, with great potential to become one of the most visited tourist destination of the country and a sustainable urban structure. São Tomé and Príncipe reveals a neglected heritage as well as a history and memory present in a population that feels the characteristics of a country that stopped in time and is far apart from the rest of the world. This work intends to understand the urban tissue, preserve identity and memory, and respect heritage. It is proposed the urban redesign of the "roça" that is defined by the economic activities proposed, by the daily life of this culture, attending the surrounding context. The project aims to connect the understanding of culture with tourism as dynamizers of the "roça", these concepts are related to the current problems in a logic of trying to solve and transform them into new potentialities, whose physical expression will have to be guided by a continuity conferring the identity of the "roça".

Full textThis dissertation examines the Museum of Favela (MUF), a nongovernmental organization founded in 2008 during construction of the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) in the slums of Pavão, Pavãozinho e Cantagalo in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The main proposals of the MUF are patrimonialization the slum / her cultural elements as well as the tourist development of these favelas. From field work, participant observation of the type with the directors of MUF, I analyze the construction of its proposed tourism as opposed to the Rocinha slum, emblematic case of tourism in slums. Show the presence of two ideas regarding the tourism case study: what I call tourism villain, represented by the context of Rocinha in view of the promoters of MUF, and what I call tourism the solution, represented in the same vision for tourism organized by the residents for benefit of local people and solving problems of slums. Further analyze the proposal of MUF, your organization as an NGO and its directors. Finally, I focus on the Museum of Favela and the state as the basic social actors involved in the issue examined, showing how heritage tourism and appear as tools for both institutions, which hold similarities and differences regarding the two ongoing processes in the slums of the Pavão, Pavãozinho e Canatagalo: the patrimonialization process and the tourismizacion process.

This investigation stems from the debate that arose in tourist cities regarding the impact produced by tourist activities and the massive arrival of visitors. This fact, together with the poor management of the resources and spaces of cities and the gentrification processes, causes, in many cases, discomfort among resident citizens. Some of the feelings generated are a sense of invasion, misunderstanding, detachment, and alienation from the city. All of these cause problems of coexistence between residents and visitors. Given this context, this research aims to discover and assess the existing relation between tourism and Educating Cities. It focuses on tourism from a broad perspective, both positive and negative, and makes the city an educating setting. Accordingly, the research is carried out in a real setting shaped by 15 tourist cities. In these cities, we analyze, on the one hand, the coexistence between resident citizens and visitors and, on the other, identify and examine each city’s tangible and intangible heritage that have become their identitary symbol and which deserves respect and proper management. The established work field is the network of cities registered to the Red Estatal de Ciudades Educadoras, which aims to reflect and debate about responsible tourism and Educating Cities with heritage as a foundation. The network consists of Spanish cities with different tourist realities but who perceive in the difference an opportunity to reflect on how to face the challenges of mass tourism and its resulting problems of coexistence. This investigation uses both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, such as collaborative tasks, surveys, focus groups, and bibliographic reviews. Ad hoc tools are also created to collect information about coexistence, heritage, and tourism in cities. Some of the created tools are replicable in future investigations. The main results of this research are eminently theoretical, though some approximations for projective proposals are provided to show multiple fields of future action. The investigation closes with a proposal of responsible touristic practices for visitors and citizens and gives approximations of three tourist-education projects. These proposals have identitary heritage as their main core and involve both residents and visitors in the interpretation process to improve their coexistence in urban scenarios.

Full textThis PhD Thesis investigates the activities aimed to promote cultural heritage and intangible assets that constitute a resource of our country, formally very protected, but still little valorized. The mission is to delineate urban and territorial policies and projects, starting from the recognition of cultural heritage value by local communities, and delineate tools for management and promotion supporting feasible and shared choices. Actions to be undertaken will concern many cultural tourism types integrated with social and economic activities, because the belief is that all of this will ensure “sustainable” development. This is possible through a balance between resident and touristic population, and through public and private investment channels in many sectors of economic activity. The first part of the Thesis investigates the tourism’s dynamics, culture and cultural heritage’s meaning. This part inquires approaches aimed to analyze cultural phenomena, and it ends with developing a matrix with associated indicators and research’s range, to submit to economic stakeholders to investigate potentiality and critical aspects of Italian tourism. The second part of Thesis describes the importance of some present and past characters who have contributed to improve quality of life, through interventions in cultural and in social demand’s areas. In this part it has been refined the range of investigation and the matrix’s indicators, and the matrix has been given to various groups of stakeholders, with the aim to explore the differences in terms of approaches and viewpoints of private and public operators. The third, and the last, part of the Thesis tries to draw a procedure’s proposal to program and valorize the local touristic attractors, identifying in each of them the cultural component, and how they interact with other aspects of the territory, focusing on lesser-known places of Italian territory.

Genealogy analysis of the concept of hospitality. It presents a genealogy of the concept of hospitality from discursive practices that are located in fields such as social, economic and political, highlighting the power relations that are built and emerge through a discursive engineering. It seeks, particularly, to understand how it is woven, historical and discursively, the conception of hospitality in Praia Grande’s neighborhood, in São Luís, Maranhão, from several discursive practices. The neighborhood initially housed the local elite, who built the house of colonial origin, thanks to the development of productive activities in São Luís. After the decadence in economy, the elite left the mansions of the Great Beach, now synonyms of antique. From the 1940s onwards of the twentieth century, preservation policies are proposed in order to promote the place's revitalization, by means of the restoration of the architectonic collection, which makes Praia Grande one of the city’s main postcards. This research is guided by the French Discourse Analysis of the Foucaultian base, anchoring in existing studies in Brazil, guided by Gregolin (2004); Sargentini and Navarro-Barbosa (2004), Fernandes (2008), and researchers who have the São Luís' city as study's object. Based on the different discursive places in which the subjects are located, it is proposed to analyze the discursive formations that construct an idea of hospitality on São Luís Historic Center. For that, we analyze statements of a total of 15 (fifteen) interviews with the Secretary of the Municipal Secretariat of Tourism and the Historic Center’s Deputy Mayor; with private sector managers - formal and informal traders in Praia Grande’s neighborhood; with tourists who visited the neighborhood observing in their statements possible constraints that could interfere in the relations that constitute the urban hospitality in the neighborhood of Praia Grande.

Abstract: In Rio Grande do Sul regions of European immigration are well known due to the remarkable cultural expression evidenced by the presence of tangible and intangible assets that represent the cultural identity of places. But the current global economic momentum requires the complex new demands for space use and operation of places, changing some everyday social practices, including how to think about the materiality and symbolic representations of different cultures. This means that all the objects, customs and traditions tend to gain new uses are refunctionalized to meet the dynamic changes in sociospatial. The District of Rincão da Cruz in the colonial region of the Pelotas City, destination of many Italian immigrants during the great waves of immigration in the late nineteenth century, was also stage of change imposed by the economic and productive global economy over the last decades of the century XX, which led its inhabitants to seek new forms of economic gains, and one, the promotion of tourism activities. From the promotion of tourism in the region the inhabitants of the place began to broaden the mechanisms for enhancement of cultural heritage Italian-distributed by descending territory, since these cultural goods, the same way, represent the activities of tourism attractions. Next to it begins a movement around the recognition of Italian immigration to this region because, even having been formed from the same process of formation of colonies of immigration from the north and south of the state, the colony of Pelotas was never recognized as such by the historiography. Thus, the activities of tourism have contributed to the rescue and recovery of cultural identity of the descendants of Italian immigrants in the region now to seek historical recognition as the 5th Region of Italian Immigration Colony in Rio Grande do Sul. Thus, the choice of the District of Rincão da Cruz, in the Pelotas City, the object of this investigation, due to the fact that the colonial region is increasingly becoming a tourist destination in which the Italian cultural heritage descendant-is a major attraction. At the same time, because this process has resulted in rescue of local identity and traditions through a greater appreciation of cultural place and for recognition of Italian colonial history as a region.

The research identifies the gastronomy present in the Serra Gaúcha specifically in de Region of Grape and Wine with a focus on the hybridization of Italian cuisine in its restaurants with tourist appeal (which portrays the Italian memory) in consolidated tourism Routes. The methodology of this research is characterized by being exploratory and descriptive. It is done by technical procedures as a case study; Regarding the research question, it is considered a qualitativequantitative study; the data collection was done through a questionnaire and bibliographic research; aiming to understand the process of hybridization and the positioning of its gastronomic offer regarding this issue and the data processed for use by an analysis with reference in the comprehensive method is adopted in the treatment. Several different denominations have been found that discredit the gastronomy of the Serra Gaúcha. Therefore, the Immigration Kitchen is the proposal of the researcher, as being the one that would fit best in different denominations. The Immigration Kitchen can make Serra Gaúcha invoke a destination also known for gastronomic tourism, where it values its ancestors and conveys the pride and strength of it through food

Tourism is a complex environmental, social, cultural and economic fact. Heritage issues are relevant in planning and developing tourism since official agencies have social responsibility in promoting as heritage those expressions which are also considered heritage by locals. This is a qualitative exploratory research aimed to analyze the relation between social representations about heritage and the contents of tourism folders issued by municipal government. It begins with considerations on social representations theory, and heritage and tourism concepts. Field work was held with 16 inhabitants, who were interviewed with open questions. The conclusion is that social representations about heritage match the official discourse printed in tourism folders and that official discourse is anchored and objectified by those locals who were interviewed. They also accept that development through tourism will benefit local economy and all of them understand tourism is an alternative both for city development and for the conservation of heritage.

Full textThe main research subjects of this dissertation are the relations between tourism and cultural heritage in setting discourses about time and the representations on a Cariri region cultural identity. The objective of this work is to analyse the touristic uses of cultural heritage aiming to the social and economic development of Cariri region at the beginning of 21st century. Starting in the 2000s, one notes that the patrimonialising processes engendered in Cariri were bound to projects of future that mobilized the cultural assets as touristic resources, putting them in temporal paces that sometimes drawn close to the past, associated to tradition, sometimes reaching to the future, associated with some aspects of the market integration of cultural heritage. This movement corresponded to social processes that singularized the present by means of deliberate strategies on the fabrication of traditions and the invention of practices and cultural values on which it was set as relevant in the elaboration of a sense of belonging. Developed from a group of documents â which embraces journals from the press, tourist guides and leaflets, reports of work, development projects from touristic sector, and others â, the issues on this work converge with the discussions carried out by Grupo de Estudos e Pesquisa em PatrimÃnio e MemÃria â GEPPM/UFC/CNPq, to which this research is associated. It aims to contribute to the debate related to the field of cultural heritage in Brazil.

Full textThe major aim of the present work was to contribute with the studies of Cartography of Tourism, by selecting the city of Limeira, located at São Paulo State, as the object of investigation. The choice of the area for this study took into consideration that Limeira City represents the process of occupation of the medium cities of São Paulo from the economical and urban expansion, which occurred historically during the economic cycles that took place in Brazil. For this, it was done a complete review concerning the touristic use of the material heritage from the geographic critical point of view, exemplifying cases in Brazil, as well as over the world, by investigating the potential value of the material heritage of Limeira City. To elaborate the thematic maps, it was carried out a review in the methodology of the Cartography of Tourism, considering that the maps are created to help tourists. In this context, the maps should accomplish the rules of legibility, by providing an accurate use of scale, symbols and legend, which should communicate precisely and quickly the information. The cultural material heritage of Limeira City has been inserted recently in the public policies by the Master Territorial and Environmental Plan of 2009, when the historical buildings from this city were listed and protected. Therefore, in the present study these buildings were classified in the following categories: rural, educational, religious and cultural, by means of thematic charts elaborated using GIS software ArcGis 9.3. In conclusion, the elaborated maps may contribute to give the appropriate value to the local historic heritage, by inducing programs to improve the cultural tourism and heritage education.
MAGRIN, FEDERICO. "A value, a choice, a motivational force: the quest for authenticity in tourism through the lens of sustainability." Doctoral thesis, Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/10281/331441.
Full textThe quest for authenticity in tourism studies has been on of the most interesting and controversial issue for many scholars from different disciplines. Starting from the diffusion of mass tourism, in the early 60s, passing through tourism transformations that occurred over the decades, alongside the important changes that have characterized the contemporary world, the attention for what is authentic for tourist has been highly investigated. This attention was taken in order to understand the behaviours of tourists, the motivational forces behind their choices and the relation between tourists and their travel experiences. The sociological discourse of authenticity was initiated by Dean MacCannell within a broader framework regarding the relationship between tourism and modernity but over the years became more sophisticated with the introduction of some distinctions: the experience of authenticity and the authenticity of a place, the authenticity of knowledge and the authenticity of feeling. The discourse on authenticity has always been strictly connected with the dimension of culture, meeting cultures, cultural exchange and respect of diversity. Moreover, authenticity became a quality, and its expression, contrived or natural, continues to be an open discourse, that concerns, among others, sustainability and sustainable tourism. Recently sustainability has emerged as a primary goal in tourism-related decision-making. Stakeholders in the tourism sector, including tourists and host communities, are now considerably more aware of the importance of sustainability in tourism than they were in the past. Institutions, as UNWTO, have declared that tourism has to become an effective tool for sustainable development for SDGs achievement. Thus, it becomes crucial to clarify how the concept of authenticity, which is still a significant drive in tourism, is being transformed and is penetrating in sustainable tourism definitions and practices, both for hosts, for tourists, and for tourism industry. Starting from this literature review and the analysis of the convergences among the two terms, the aim of the research is to look, nowadays, at authenticity and its quest with the lens of sustainability, with a focus on the implications both for host community and tourism industry. Taking into consideration the objectives of the research and given the opportunity to apply a qualitative methodology, the challenge has been to choose a method that allows us to bring together the reflections of experts on the topic of the research. Beyond this, the peculiar situation due the pandemic outbreak has compromised the opportunity to plan a field research and to move from one country to another in order to gather opinions by means of qualitative methodologies that need a deep interrelation with the participants of the study. As a result of this situation, in relation to the aim of the research and of exogenous factors, an appropriate qualitative methodology has been identified, the Delphi method. The Delphi research has intended to explore the relation between authenticity and sustainability in tourism studies; to provide the elements to observe and outline the concept of authenticity through the lens of sustainability; to investigate if the quest for authenticity contribute or detract from sustainability; and the implications for tourism actors. Finally it is proposed an interpretation of this relationship that looks at the quest for authenticity as a quest for sustainability, enhancing the role of tourism towards the achievement of sustainable objectives and sustainable development.

Full textBrazilian archeology, along with its archeological heritage, is still little known to the great majority of the Brazilian society. This thesis maintains that Archeological Tourism is an activity not only able to disseminate the knowledge of archeological science but also and mainly to protect the archeological heritage. It is based on (i) discussions about this heritage\'s vulnerability partly due to archeological studies being carried out in Brazil as a result of the construction of great infrastructure projects (e.g. oil and gas pipelines, roads, hydroelectric dams and so forth); the conceptual exposition of theoretical and practical aspects of Tourism; (iii) the summary of Best Practice principles that might help to develop and implement projects in Archeological Tourism following the rules of sustainability. (iv) the emphasis on the importance of Heritage Interpretation for planning the communication with visitors to cultural heritage sites. This thesis proposes a series of attractive archeological tourism products for the municipality of Iranduba, in the state of Amazonas (Brazilian Central Amazon), that although diverse, are meant to complement each other in their purposes and uses. The presented proposals show the feasibility of using the local archeological heritage touristically, even if this lacks monumentality, helping with the development of similar proposals around the country

Full textThe World War II was a conflict of exceptional dimension, leaving tangible and intangible cultural heritage in every country involved. In Brazil, its heritage presents itself especially through the participation of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB). Despite achieving important victories against a dictatorial regime, the group was broken up even before their return to Brazil, which led the combatants from the heroism to the oblivion quickly. The exclusion and the devaluation that they suffered from the government and from the Brazilian Army caused trauma and resentment to the war veterans, who nowadays fear that the lack of support and interest will sink their history into oblivion. This academic paper has the objective of understanding the impact of this devaluation regarding what we know about the FEB today and to identify what the general public and History teachers of public schools located in the city of Sao Paulo know about the group. In addition to that, this paper aims to present some cases in which the Cultural Tourism, through the historical heritage, has been utilized as an instrument of reconstruction of the memory of diminished groups and which examples could be applied to the heritage of the FEB. To that end, documental studies and interviews were made, including qualitative research with applied to History teachers and quantitative research applied to the general public. Through the data from those studies and researches, it was concluded that most of the population of Sao Paulo does not know about the FEB, and that result can be justified by the lack of approach on the subject from the formal education system, since History teachers have a superficial knowledge about the topic and the presence of the FEB history in the textbooks is very limited, according to the History teachers interview. From these results, it was perceived that the omission of the FEBs history, achievements and tradition, by the political forces, in an attempt to maintain the current dictatorship and the Army structure of power, led the historical invisibility of the group. However, studying cases in which the Cultural Tourism was used as an instrument of reconstruction of memory of diminished groups, such as the Holocaust Memorial and the Memorial of Resistance of Sao Paulo, it was concluded that the same strategies could be utilized to the reconstruction of the memory of the FEB

The present doctoral thesis comprises a compilation of publications whose main objective is to identify good practices for the development of literary tourism within the context of an urban destination and from an educational perspective. With this goal, the research has been structured in four articles, divided into two major sections. The first of these two sections is entitled Theoretical Foundation and it aims to identify the current insights and lines of research that work on the concepts of literary heritage and literary tourism. This section is composed by two articles, each of which carries out a broad literature review. Scopus and Web of Science databases have been chosen as a sample due to their importance when collecting international academic production. The analyses conducted in each article allow us to know both quantitative and qualitative data on the scientific production related to the aforementioned concepts as well as to identify lines of work where both concepts meet. The second section is entitled Applied Research and it contains two research articles, also based on the methodology of documentary analysis. The first of these articles presents a case study located in Barcelona and assesses the role that literary tourism may play in the context of a consolidated tourist destination by comparing the city depicted in Juan Marsé’s work Ultimas tardes con Teresa, with the city promoted by Turisme de Barcelona through the routes in the institutional website. The study concludes that literature allows broadening and diversifying the discourses on the tourist destination and, because of that, contributes to the spatial redistribution of tourist flows. The second article carries out an analysis of the contents of the activity reports issued by the cities of literature belonging to Unesco Network of Creative Cities of Literature. The analysis has identified a number of policies and initiatives designed to create a cultural climate in cities along with specific actions that use the literary heritage and heritage education to develop a literary tourism offer. In this way, the present thesis provides destinations with a number of recommendations and good practices to create a literary tourism offer, paying special attention to those destinations which show us how to use literary heritage for educational purposes. Besides, it concludes that the production of a cultural tourism offer which explores the destinations’ intangible heritage allows for a more coherent and sustainable tourism offer within the framework of current tourist destinations.

Full textLargo das Forras Square in Tiradentes (Minas Gerais, Brazil) is considered a national heritage. This study investigates the reasons why this space is considered cultural patrimony (why heritage?), the actors who built it and got hold of it (whose heritage?) and the values it represented when the policy of safeguard was made - as well as understanding the evolution of its occupation, meanings and valuation until nowadays. The central problem - the construction of the place as a memory site, besides discussing patrimony in the context of Tiradentes\' territory, will require thinking the role of tourism in the transformation process. The main objective is discussing the values that guide our choices and see how the goods and places that a specific group defined as heritage are reinterpreted and changed as the legacy is appropriated by successors.

ABSTRACT: Architecture, Man and Horse appear in this thesis as generating elements of a project that seeks the intervention in the territory and the landscape, as a way of revitalizing a heritage, long forgotten, and discovering a space of convergence between tourism and the equestrian practice. Alongside the urban planning of Quinta da Cardiga, its layout, pre-existences and new construction, an equestrian experience is sought, motivated by its own cultural enrichment, taking advantage of the existing local resources and memories of the past. Thus, we are guided by the scenic experience produced by the landscape and an architectural design, in which man and animal are the main actors and stage their own performance. A new approach is presented that confronts a large scale challenge, where public space becomes humanized and the scale of the relationship between Man and Horse is re-dimensioned. This program presents a viable methodology for the preservation of the area, addressing urban rehabilitation as a human concern and a need to revisit the history of Quinta da Cardiga.

The interception of themes as lodging industry and the urban historical heritage, expose multiple issues as the role of the State in the process of valuation, identification, preservation and use of this heritage. The perception of ideological motivations that arrange the choices and decisions about what should be preserved put us before subtle links among the construction of memories, flow of capital and the tourism. The look on the project of the state company Paradores de Turismo da Espanha enables us to know an experience based on joint activities of integrated management aiming at the sustainable and responsible development of the cultural tourism and revitalization of the heritage. Past and present form a timeline full of meanings and challenges, which importance is subject to the needs of the present.

Colonia’s party had originated in 1984, when a group of residents of Linha Bonita, in Gramado / RS, proposed the holding of a festive time for the local community. Soon the party grew and gained identity, starting to be held in the Center City of Gramado and today is one of the major tourist events in the city. This research had as objective strengthen the rapprochement between communication and tourism, investigating how the print media disseminates the Colonia’s party of Gramado/RS. The corpus of the research was delimited to the newspapers Zero Hora, Pioneiro, Integração and Gramado, using the methodology of content analysis as proposal by Laurence Bardin. The results showed that the newspapers are partners in the disclosure of the aspects that make the party attractive and attended, as they are also the promoters of gastronomy, culture and leisure, valuing the participants, whether visitors, promoters and/or organizers as well as the supporting elements, products and commercialization.

The overall objective of the study is to generate understanding of processes and mechanisms of evolution of heritage tourism destinations in rural and protected areas and provide operational implementations for heritage tourism planning and management. To achieve this, a five-dimensional model is proposed and tested. The stages in the evolutionary process of Olympos Tourism Area (OTA) and the modus operandi of the process have been revealed. Both qualitative and quantitative methodologies are employed in thesis study. The research is conducted by using integrative reviewing, GIS-based spatial analysing, surveying and semi-structured interviewing methods. Olympos/Antalya in Turkey is chosen as case study area. The questions that were related to indicators of five dimensions of heritage tourism destination (HTD) development are posed through semi-structured interviews. The responses are analysed manually. In addition, orthographic photos are analysed in GIS applications such as QGIS, ArcGIS and ENVI and spatial transformations identified. Moreover, a survey is conducted to clarify mutation in heritage tourist typology in parallel with the evolution process of the destination. The results showed that socio-cultural, economic, environmental, spatial and consumption characteristics of a HTD are changing interrelatedly and the causing stage changes in evolutionary process. The tourismification of protected areas advances under specific legal frameworks that are related to conservation and protection concerns. The overall results of the study showed that two inversive philosophies take place in modus operandi of the tourismification process. The stage changes occur related to a balance between “transformative” and “preservative” actions and practices

Broke with the goal of developing a study that involved three main themes: Tourism, History and Memory. The three themes are related in search of a study which may contribute to the enhancement of urban landscapes as tourist attractions, recognizing the city or its urban centers, as permeated by cultural relationships that involve multiple fields and interests. Thus, this study aimed to analyze and understand the relationships between tourism, Memories and the City, with the eyes on the location of Veranópolis. Whereas the city and its image are the result of practices and representations of social groups, urban areas become attractive tourism representative for the cities, given that there are visible the different times and presenting the stories of Thus, streets and squares articulate these temporalities between the groups, which may support an attraction for visitors. It can be seen in Veranópolis, a distance between tourism and the city, such as urbanity. Looking at the image of tourism advertised, as well as records related to the activity, it is clear that the option for natural has a long history. But at other times at the beginning of the twentieth century, which was posted were just the city and its cultural attractions, which points to an ominous reductionism of local tourism, the distance between Tourism and the City, giving great emphasis to nature existing in the locality, which seems to be a reductionist approach to local tourism.

In effect, the first part of this work is the analyses of the current state of tourism as well the feature of the archaeo-tourism, emphasizing the importance of archaeological parks. Then are analyzed issues about nautical and underwater archeology, namely about protection and preservation of underwater sites. I finish with the presentation of some models of archeo-turistical management of national and international sites. The final results was an exercise of general reflections on the significant of cultural tourism and the affirmation of nautical and underwater archaeology, like an alternate product of development with an adequate policy model of management, to this new reality.

Full textThis research presents the long-term exhibition of the Minas Gerais Vale Memorial, analyzing it from its expographic narrative, whose emphasis falls on the notion of mineiridade. Using the interlocution of agents involved in the curatorship of the exhibition, we draw points that reiterate the theme of mineiridade, which is based on the modernist discourse and on heritage assets, but re-appropriated and re-signified in the design of the museum and it is inaugural exhibition. The curatorial options are also directly related to the interests of the state government of Minas Gerais, as well as to the company sponsor and maintainer of the museum, Vale S.A. The Memorial presents itself as a \"museum of experience\", using a contemporary expographic language, with wide use of digital media. The analysis, therefore, of its sensorial aspects and of public attraction is fundamental to understand the contents on display and its celebratory way of dealing restrictively with the cultural diversity of Minas Gerais. This diversity is selective and the elements highlighted there, once inside the Memorial, arranged in exhibition rooms, become cultural assets, revaluing an imaginary about Minas Gerais that has served the local public, but, also, and especially, tourism.

Full textThe interest for the identification and disclosure of historic heritage has been growing in the last decades. This affirmation is supported by the concept of the heritage - natural, cultural, historical, artistic and linguistic - as the legacy that distinguishes a country, recognizing it as unique and different, going against the trend towards leveling and uniformity in this world that is increasingly globalized. The first chapter is about the heritage concept history, which has been improved in the last years. If in the beginning the concept was addressed only to the constructed elements, with the evolution of time, the concept of heritage start to be extended to a whole world, since urban groups, to the sites, cultural and natural landscapes. Thus, and with their growing importance, this concept felt the need to divide into two branches which, although distinct, are always intertwined: Cultural and Natural Heritage. The second chapter shows that the increasing of the importance for the protection had positive effects in several layers. This emphasis on protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage has been increasing over the years, evidenced by the increasing emergence of global bodies, since European to National, with governmental and non-governmental nature. With this concern for its protection, has also increased the tourist interest in the Cultural Heritage, which is an alternative to common tourism, already so crowded in our society. The third chapter shows exactly that, the born of a new kind of tourism. Tourism is an excellent vehicle for cultural transmission, so it works as a powerful means of preserving the heritage. For this reason, we cannot restrict the Portuguese tourism to our excellent beaches, extensive golf courses and modern hotels. We should open its horizons to the attention of the past of cultures and landscapes, which mark and make it unique. With the study of the early chapters became the interest of take part in this concern for heritage safeguard. For that, were studied several castles’ restore interventions, with a view to recognize successfully cases. Within these projects stand out Moura, Évoramonte, Palmela and Silves Castles, in Portugal, and the Caernarfon Castle, in Britain, and Sohai Castle, in Spain, where had been proposedarchaeological interventions of conservation and restoration, qualification of public open spaces, as the installation of interpretive centers, as examples of initiatives to exploit this heritage. The last chapter was reserved for an intervention project in the castle of Noudar wich were developed in partnership with the Barrancos Municipal Council and EDIA- Alqueva Infrfastructure Development Enterprise, as with a team of architects and archaeologists. The aim of this intervention concerns, not only in the optimization of Castle Noudar as historic, architectural and cultural heritage, but also in creating a point of tourist attraction that will have an important role in consolidating the region's tourism offer. With this restoration project for the Noudar Castle and as a conclusion of this dissertation it’s aimed to contribute to the promotion, preservation and disclosure of national heritage, emphasizing what's most grandiose in our country, allowing the improvement of public use, as well as it integration into the region's tourist routes, with the intention to respect the medieval heritage, promoting its historical and cultural value as a tourist product of the XXI century

Full textGastronomy has demonstrated its importance as a tourist attraction, as part of the local culture of a certain region. With the focus of developing tourism through gastronomy, this research analyzed the importance of Serrano Cheese as a local product for the development of sustainable tourism (focusing on job creation and promotion of culture) in the municipality of Bom Jesus-RS. The research was also based on Agenda 2030, created in 2015, and works more deeply with goal 8.9, which aims to promote sustainable tourism, by generating employment and income, promoting local culture and products. The methodology for the development of this research was characterized by being exploratory regarding its objectives; in the technical procedures, the case study model was predominant, with semi-structured interviews with the producers and public agencies linked to the production of Serrano Cheese and questionnaires with the visitors of the 12th Festival of Gila, the 5th Festival of the Serrano Cheese and 1th Serrano Artisanal Cheese competition. Regarding the approach to the research question, a qualitative study is considered. To elucidate the facts, the researcher linked the specific objectives to the questionnaire and, later, used the same research instrument to analyze the occurrences found. It was thus identified that the Serrano Cheese, through its producers, promotes the local culture, because, from a unique product, keeps alive the history and the tradition of a region. This product can make the city of Bom Jesus-RS a destination known for gastronomic tourism, valuing its ancestors and its culture, and generating employment due to the higher visitation rates and tourist products that can be developed through the Cheese Serrano.

Full textThis theoretical-practical qualitative research was developed based on several techniques, such as observation, interviews (oral history), and documental analysis. The symbolic interactionism reflects the theoretical approach adopted in valuing the research subjects´ point of view. Categories analyzed were: sustainability, landscape, heritage and community. Its development was defined in the context of cultural landscape and sustainable tourism. The main focus of this thesis was on the representations of the local community of Paranapiacaba, a railway village, in relation to the transformations that have occurred, mainly related to the heritage and the declining influence of railroad activity, and their role in the tourism activity. In a multidisciplinary approach, concepts of several sciences - Geography, Sociology, Anthropology, Social Psychology were used, as well as studies in the tourism and leisure field. As a result, it was found that the local community participates in the activity, however, their participation is, mainly, at the operational level, not at the strategic decision-making level. In theoretical terms, this study suggests approaching the concept of cultural landscape in tourism studies, related to the context of social-environmental sustainability.

Full textThis paper presents the main perspectives established from the use of property inherited from de sugar cane plantation activity in the developing of the tourism activity, in the northern part of the state of Rio de Janeiro. In order to do so, the main concepts which allow us to understand how areas once considered rural or known as linked to any type of agricultural activity go through a process of transformation by which they end up inserted into a new stage will be discussed. These transformations are perceived in the spaces once called rural areas but nowadays show up with a new perspective of usage, and which before were exclusively destined to agricultural activities. Another aspect which may be noticed is of the singular sceneries which constitute cultural patrimonies, in the sense as they became socially representative. The scenery then ends up linked to the local identity. In the districts studied these previously mentioned sceneries are marked by the traditional sugar cane plantations, which for more than one century deeply influenced the life and the everyday of that portion of the local life, allowing a peculiar architecture and scenery. Thus, this paper aims at the understanding of how the scenery may be used in the developing of the tourism activity as a means of financial profit. In addition, an attempt to visualize the main characters which promote the property re-valorization and how the scenery is modified by the tourism activity will also be performed

Full textPlaced close to 60 km from the state district, Palmas-TO, there is Porto Nacional, one of the Tocantins`state cities well known for its historical, artistic, cultural and religious value to the old times known as “norte goiano”, which is the north region for those who lived in the south, this last one is now called Goiás state. As we can observe through the study of some authors dedicated to several subjects on Porto Nacional, like Education, Historical heritage and History, Porto Nacional city genesis was set by three start points: the Dominicans arrival, the dawn of three newspapers and lastly the arrival of a physician to the city. There are many reasons why it is one of the most representative cities in the state, one of them is the strong tendency to religion, most of all the catholic one. Another important aspect was its landmarking by the historical heritage, which occurred in 2008. It is also needed to mention that it was the second city to be listed as historical heritage on the state and also the first in its territory. It carries an eventful hindsight of the historical heritage evolution process whereas it includes the Historical Heritage Chart of Athenas (1931), Venice Chart (1964), Convention for World Cultural and Natural Historical Heritage (1972) and the Amsterdan Declaration (1975). These charts were weighty to the historical heritage landmarks consolidation in our times. This study suggests to discuss and reflect on the actions that give north to the city cultural tourism. The first step of this study consisted in the application of a poll to the tourists that visited the city`s church and museum during the last 2013 July and December, as well as this part points out the historical heritage process of Porto Nacional`s historical center according to the arguments and interviews done upon the city dwellers. Some semi-structured polls were applied on the tourists as first step of this research. One of the standard points of this work is to measure cultural tourism importance to the city tourism as a whole. The second step of this work is to verify the perception of the nearby inhabitants of the city’s historical center on the historical heritage process based on formal documents as the Historical Center Heritage Landmarking Minute and the Historical Heritage Landmarking Dossier. This study drifts a reflection upon the actual context of the city. After all, this study contains two vision, the dweller and the tourist one, in order to answer if the city historical heritage listing replies to their expectations. Having in mind the fact that the city is considered the cultural birthplace of the state, and also based on some issues enlightened by the poll, a reflection arises: the existence of cultural tourism in Porto Nacional and the participation of its dwellers to the historical center landmarking.

Abstract: This research approaches the spatial ideologies observed in promotional activities of the Brazilian cultural heritage practiced by EMBRATUR - Brazilian Institute of Tourism - during the period 2003 to 2010. It presents, through the concept of spatial ideology presented by Vincent Berdoulay, the importance of the space and especially the landscape as elements of ideological appropriation. For this, discusses the importance of the symbolic contents of tourism landscapes as element in the formation of images for the tourist market and for tourism promotion organizations. In this sense, discusses the phenomenon displayed by Berdoulay called "narrative reduction", understood as the intentional selectivity of fragments of the landscape to form images with high content of ideology. From the analysis of images related to the Brazilian cultural heritage present in advertising developed by EMBRATUR, the research intends to investigate the hypothesis that asserts the existence of conflicts and contradictions between the ideological discourse of marketing plans for tourism destinations and the practice of promotion of tourism. The significance of this research is to contribute to the reflections that involve the appropriation of cultural heritage tourism in Brazil, to enable a constructive review of models of tourism planning and marketing practices, of the promotion practices of the Brazilian cultural heritage and the interventions observed in locations with relevant cultural heritage
