Abstract:

The heritage can be considered like everything what the man has and who has been bequeathed him by its ancestors. All this wealth has extreme importance for the development of the tourism. But as well as the heritage allows the development of the tourism also can be seen negatively affected by this activity. Therefore it is necessary that a sustainable development of the tourism considers; a development model that obtains economic benefits of the heritage but that it allows that this it is revitalized and it revalues as well. Abstract:
In recent years, the Region of Murcia has promoted new tourism models related to heritage and the sea. However, despite the richness of its maritime history and heritage, it has not done so in a complementary manner. The Mar Menor-La Manga area has only boosted the maritime aspect in relation to nautical activities, leaving their heritage relegated to a second place. This paper seeks to vindicate the importance of the Maritime Heritage, History, and Culture associated with this area and to show the opportunities offered by its proper enhancement through a case study: the implementation of an underwater heritage trail in the Phoenician wreck of the “Bajo de la Campana” as part of the “Isla Grosa” Project.

This article seeks to promote a theoretical reflection on the prison heritage. Thereby, it is our intention to analyze critically the realities that surround the preservation and protection of this type of heritage and the possible new uses for the prison heritage in the city of Juiz de Fora [State of Minas Gerais, Brazil]. The methodological procedures were based on the analysis of academic production on this theme. Libraries and historical collections of the city were consulted, as well as Internet pages that contained relevant news and information about prison heritage. The analysis of the material shows that some buildings in the municipality were demolished, seeking to highlight the importance of public prison memory and the disregard that the prison heritage suffers in the contemporary context.

Abstract:
Despite the innumerable heritage of Chile, based on its natural attractions, in its history and important archaeological resources, and in a culture with thousands-year-old indigenous roots, the tangible and intangible heritage linked to water, the hydraulic heritage, has been scarcely studied, hardly considered culturally as an element of interest and poorly promoted by state tourism agencies. Incomprehensible situation in a space in which the control and the use of water through infrastructures and inventions, has been, since historical times, a matter of enormous importance, both in the territories of hydric scarce, and even zero rainfall, as in those in which the values of precipitation are very high.

The requirement of a sustainable management of the historical heritage sites demands the design of management control models that contemplate the particularities of those sites, beyond the architectural ones. The goal of this paper is the design of a holistic, contingent and integrator model to be used by the public and/or private managers for the sustainable management. To achieve this, a thorough bibliographic review of the specialized literature has been carried out. This model does not pretend to be universal but rather a point of reference for its adaptation to the particularities of each site.

Abstract:
The promotion of wine tourism is becoming an increasingly frequent strategy in the Douro wine regions. They have consolidated their productivity around quality wines and now highlight the heritage elements of landscapes linked to production. However, at the same time, in the least transformed areas with fragile environments but a high concentration of heritage assets -that position them as tourist destinations-, this wine sector is acting as a stimulus in the revival and competitive conservation of vineyards, more and more valued and recognised in the landscape as a tourism generator. To illustrate this process, this paper analyses the dynamics of vineyards cultivated in environments with a high density of heritage elements such as the Sierra de Salamanca (Spain).

This work includes a tour of disused industrial remains transformed into hotels, It is evident that the reuse of these old containers in order to new tourist uses has helped on the one hand to recover heritage, while on the other hand a sustainable action is achieved and it avoids the waste that implies the new construction. However, the paradox of rehabilitation actions is also highlighted, where reuse can lead to environmental deterioration, despite the recovery of heritage that initially it means.

Abstract:
In many major cities, the ‘first’ nineteenth-century cemetery is increasingly the focus of cemetery tourism. This paper recognises ‘funerary heritage’ as an associated but separate development. It indicates that there can be an uneasy relationship between cemetery tourism and funerary heritage, in part resting on unwillingness directly to associate cemetery visits with death. Poorly framed cemetery tourism can actively undermine both the tangible and intangible heritage of cemeteries. Many cemeteries are still in use, and this paper regards these sites as ‘living heritage’. In these circumstances, interpretation should acknowledge the bereaved as relevant stakeholders; interpretation needs to be more confident in the ways in which it talks about the various aspects of mortality; foregrounding how the cemetery ‘works’ presents an under-explored narrative frame; and there is a need to be aware of the ways that interpretation can skew conservation effort. Ethical issues also pertain. Here it is suggested that, at the very least, that interpretation should demonstrate how –across all times and cultures– humanity has striven to come to terms with mortality.

Abstract:

Abstract: Tourism,Culture and Literature Through the study of the areas of Tourism, Culture and Literature, it was possible to explore the literary heritage in the city of Évora, in order to demonstrate a proposal for the implementation of a literary product. Combining such areas with the practice of fieldwork was pertinent in unraveling little-known or valued literary points, despite their potential. The activities developed in each tourist spot were designed with the purpose of highlighting their natural characteristics, known through the tourist route. The work developed was not based on the creation of new tourism attraction posts but rather on the demonstration of existing characteristics that, in themselves, have a great tourism potential. The implementation of a literary route is economically advantageous and it is up to cultural agents to look at literary heritage as a source of local development, outlining literary scenarios and incorporating renowned writers.

The undeniable importance of the asset value of historic garden as testimony and reference of past eras has been growing in Portugal through studies, publications and initiatives which reinforce its value recognition. Despite the advances and efforts made for the recovery of historic gardens, the recognition of its value is still far from general public recognition. This dissertation intends to be a contribution to an effective heritage management, based on the acknowledgement of historical gardens heritage importance and on its demands. The tourism integration emerges as a possible proposal for the achievement of such goals, in order to promote their protection, by assigning a use or a function since, in most gardens, is recognized the needed potential to implement a demanding tour. The main goals of this work are the analysis of the situation of Portuguese gardens, by data collection through a survey; the contribution for a database development for AJH, and the preliminary proposal of a Website, which intends to enable the creation of tourist routes through historic gardens, and promote de value of historical gardens in Portugal

Abstract:
Doutoramento em Turismo
With this work we propose to analyze the perception of the concept of quality by managers of museums and archaeological sites. To this end, we chose to analyze some heritage areas open to the public and certified by HERITY - World Organisation for the Certification of Quality Management of Cultural Heritage, the only international certification of this kind which has been officially recognized by UNESCO and the World Tourism Organization. The application of the principles of quality and Total Quality Management to cultural heritage management is part of the efforts towards a continuous improvement of the cultural tourism offer and - in our opinion – towards an increasing capacity to promote intercultural dialogue between local population and visitors. In this context, we have therefore investigated the perception of quality within the context of cultural heritage management, and how the culture of quality can provide a greater involvement of local communities, contributing to the strengthening of authenticity and destination personality, as well as the promotion of intercultural dialogue between tourists and residents. To answer these questions, we have defined a theoretical model and subsequently carried out an empirical work at European level on the perception of quality by managers of cultural heritage sites, namely archaeological heritage. An in-depth comprehension of areas such as Archeology, Tourism and Quality Management, as well as its role within the broader context of sustainable regional development, are the basis of this work. The latter is intended, in turn, to be a vehicle of reflection within the creation of public policies on territorial management and tourism development. We thus undertook a research line which is still almost unexplored, that is, the analysis of quality principles within the cultural heritage management, their potential and the measurement of their actual impact on the territory, through an integrated approach, by considering in a specular, complex way the two main beneficiaries: residents and tourists.

Abstract:
Food tourism is a type of tourism that over recent years has been achieving a greater interest by academics and tourism professionals, and evidently also as a tourist motivation. The framework of the thesis is based on rural and mountain areas, where food plays an essential role as an identity factor of a society, and a unique landscape that does not happen in the same way anywhere else. Research analyses the integrative linkages between rural activities, local produce, the heritage of a particular place, its landscape, and tourism; also, the role of gastronomy regarding the regional development and the internationalization processes of destinations. Particularly focused on Vall de Boí, a World Heritage Site in the Catalan Pyrenees, the thesis also delineates examples from the region of Canterbury (New Zealand) to draw conclusive results

This study set analysis on the dialectic process between the global and local scales through the relation between the cultural heritage and tourism. Globalization, as long as a dynamics coming from the dialogue between the global and local range arises different interpretative ways, among them the ones that involve cultural heritage and tourism. Subsequently the scales concept and its mutual character it’s used to make explicit that dynamics leaded by the emergence of techniques that limits and are limited by the social environment. At the same time, the nets concept make the foundation for that scenario like connections between the global and the local range that emphasizes its selective mood, because, notwithstanding being global nets, they aren’t universal. Thus, in this work, are discussed two propositions. The first, argues the relevance from the place over the global dynamics in the intellectual authentication for the cultural heritage preservation that express itself as a reference from the place by its social and historical relevance. In this circumstance are found the grounds against the wicked globalization where the capital and information reigns, arising the place’s defensiveness. The second, where the cultural heritage is set on analysis as the basis for tourism that, under the capitalist point of view, determines the logical knowledge of competitiveness between the places, where each place make use of its best goodness and put it at disposal for consumption (localization, landscape, culture) aiming to get ant stay in the global dynamics. Departing from this two propositions, this study analyses the connections and oppositions between them, no matter if to discuss the global changes or to argue in favor to the local authenticity.

Abstract:
“Beginning with Jewish Survival: Freud’s Leaving Home” is a close reading of the complex references to Jewish heritage in Bier’s first feature-length film. Maureen Turim employs a psychological lens to assess the film’s distinct blend of comedy and tragedy, most particularly in its evocations of Freud’s delayed maturation, Rosha’s impending death, and their intense, ambivalent mother-daughter bond. The chapter further situates Freud’s Leaving Home in the context of contemporaneous films by Jewish directors that represent diasporic Jewish families in cultural transition.

Abstract:
This research proposes to evaluate strategies that articulate, in heritage tourism contexts, theoretical paradigms and the practice of territorial development processes. The analysis, from a territorial perspective, allows to find foundations and successes that channeled the potential of heritage to a motor tourist product of territorial development. To do so, relevant cases from Europe and Latin America are analyzed and it reflects on interventions that contribute to the practice of socio-economic revitalization and recovery of identity of the territory. The study of cases shown that the contribution of heritage tourism to the praxis of territorial development is not conditioned by the scale or the context in which are inserted the heritage tourism experiences, but by intervention at the macro/micro levels, the active participation of the different actors involved and the academic contribution in the Organization of the process.

Abstract:
The tools of digitisation and enabling technologies for an inclusive use of cultural and environmental resources, programmed and incentivized within the PST – “Piano Strategico di Sviluppo del Turismo 2017-2022” (PST) of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism - represent an extraordinary opportunity to promote and extend responsible, cultured tourism attentive to the development of the main centres, also of the smaller towns and the Inner Areas, acting as drivers both from an economic point of view - as future development resources for the repopulation of areas subject to abandonment and marginalization - and as opportunities to promote the rediscovery and the start of a new cultural trend able to promote knowledge and enhancement of the multiple resources of the territory, going beyond the current range of users and incidence (see PST 2017-2022). The paper analyses these aspects, combining them with the themes of integrated enhancement of the cultural heritage of the Inner Areas and with the sustainable tourism policies of the 2030 Agenda. In particular, it analyses the ways in which the use of new technologies and digital tools applied to cultural heritage can significantly contribute to the enhancement and cultural promotion of Inner Areas and territorial contexts penalised by the absence of effective infrastructures and net-works.Through the principles of sustainability, innovation, accessibility and the physical and cultural permeability of places, which are the basis of the 2017-2022 TSP, new ways are outlined for the valorisation and tourist enjoyment of the cultural heritage of sites and territorial itineraries that are usually little explored and practised but which are crucial and strategic in terms of increasing social, cultural and economic value; of overcoming differences and promoting new competitive scenarios centred on the complexity and variety of the heritage visited (cultural permeability) and on the themes of the unique-ness and richness of stratified territorial and environmental heritages.

Bairén fortress archaeological park. A valorisation project within the context of designing new politics of heritage tourism for the city of GandiaThis work emphasises the cultural value of archaeological heritage through the design of an archaeological park at the Islamic fortress of Gandia. The city, heavily tight to traditional tourism visitors, attracted by climatic easiness and beach facilities, tries now to develop an alternative course of action in order to complement its offer. Therefore, a wide project has been designed so as to put all the efforts together and get present a complete valorisation project within the current renewal dynamics regarding tourist local products. Beyond heritage and tourism, this text focuses on the importance of research and innovation in heritage politics driven by municipal institutions.

Abstract:
In this frame, and with the goal of raising awareness on the richness of the local heritage, the Departments of Architecture DIDA (Florence) and DICAAR (Cagliari) have planned several coordinated activities and integrated strategies. These include a first joint seminar opened to university students of both Faculties finalized to the documentation of the local tangible and intangible resources; the involvement of the younger population (secondary school students) with regular meetings finalized to attract and empower them toward their heritage; develop new digital tools, including serious games, in order to better spread the acquired data and reach the biggest number of people.

Mexico by the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) designs and manages programs that are committed to the existing rich heritage in the territory. In 2001 the Magic Towns program emerges as a strategy to diversify tourism within the country, seeking to revitalize the local economy; placing value on the assets of the registered locations. This document focuses on establishing and identify whether the implementation of this program has contributed to local development of populations enrolled from 2001 to 2014. The results suggest that this program shows progress in locations with similar morphological characteristics, but still can not be considered as a main driver for local development of the registered population.

Abstract:
Mills Chilean, scattered in distant locations together, deserve special attention, as they represent a resource of cultural meaning proof. By way of example, be care exponents of three strong identity rural sectors, such as: Pañul, Frutillar and Chiloé. The management model can be found in Spain, where these artifacts have attained prestige and admiration. In Chile, meanwhile, need to go a long way before these assets form part of official plans for safeguarding heritage. Differential and growing demand that has had in recent decades tourism has prompted the creation of new variants, sustained on the recognition of the assets. Among those variants appears alternative tourism, which fixed his attention on those little valued goods. Water mills, nestled in the rural landscape, are potential reasons for inclusion in this type of tourism.

Abstract:
The current postdoctoral research aims to analyze the territorial planning in Uruguay, in order to understand if it has the suitable tools to support a new geography of emerging sustainable and participatory territories. Nowadays Uruguay has a new National Planning Law for sustainable development that allows to think in a new way of multilevel governance, as well as revalue the main territorial resources in the country. Our research focus on the area of Tourism as it is one of the most interesting strategies for safeguarding the cultural heritage and natural landscapes, as well as creates a new economy against the main polluted exploitations of extensive agriculture, trees plantation and mining.

Abstract:
The Costa del Sol Occidental seen as a mature tourism destination refers to a monotonous and indifferent touristic product, whose absent occupation has led to a fragmentation of the environmental skeleton, an alteration in perception of territory and land use and a loss and decontextualisation of heritage values. This paper raises how to renew and to contextualize these diverse and complex realities and it links to the current strategy to explore new potential and improve conventional tourist areas through the second coast strategy. Owing the complexity and scale of Costa del Sol, it is necessary to develop a specific methodology that leads us away from a simplistic view and unveils territory as a system of narrow, diverse and controversial relationships with landscape.
