Abstract:
Abstract Solar photovoltaic (PV) system is proven to be a future-proof type of power generation for growing economies. There are almost zero pollutants released, low maintenance cost with high reliability as the lifespan of a solar PV stretches up to 30 years, a well-sought alternative form of sustainable energy. Moreover, the electricity consumption in Taylor’s University (TU), Malaysia is very high, as a consequence, a huge fraction of the fund is used to settle an RM450,000 electricity bill on average annually. In this paper, the study focused on how to reduce electricity consumption in TU by proposing a design of a comprehensive solar PV system. PVSYST and Sketchup software are used to design and analyze the PV system. In the present study, a Grid-Connected Photovoltaic (GCPV) mounted on the available roof space of TU is investigated. Also, a detailed economic analysis that includes the payback period and annual savings achieved through the proposed PV installation is analyzed. Annual savings of RM 267,621.00 can be made upon utilizing the proposed idea. Besides that, TU would be able to recover the initial investment cost in approximately 8 years of payback period, proving that the implementation of a 433kWp of solar PV unit is a smart option to address the sustainable energy goals.

Abstract:
This article aims at identifying the opportunities and the challenges of implementing the online classes in Tribhuvan University (TU) which is the oldest and the largest university in Nepal. The opportunities and challenges have been identified based on the information collected through comparison of the involvement of the students in the face-to-face class before COVID-19 and the online class after the effect of Corona Virus in TU. I have collected the necessary information through naturally occurring environment involving the bachelor level fourth year students who have been studying English education in a TU campus. Although the article discusses some crucial factors that lead to the realization of the need of online class in Nepal, it attempts to justify the emergence of COVID-19 as an opportunity to commence the hot discussion focusing on the need of online classes and its implementation in TU. However, the implementation seems to be more challenging due to some common and hidden problems realized during the implementation of the online class in one of the oldest constituent campuses, i.e. Mahendra Ratna Multiple Campus (MRMC), Ilam. Online classes can be run more successfully if the the common and hidden problems are addressed that have been identified in this article. The article indicates some serious challenges of implementing the online classes in TU; however, online classes can be implemented even in TU more successfully addressing those challenges if the stakeholders take some serious steps to address those challenges.

Abstract:
Human Resource Management (HRM) has been a crucial issue for Tribhuvan University (TU) due to the presence of a high number of students and teachers within the University Structure. The main purpose of this study was to explore the practices of the HRM in the TU. I adopted socio-constructivism as a research paradigm and narrative inquiry as the research design which is qualitative in nature. It used in-depth interview technique to collect information which was supported by literature review. TU conducts its overall human resource activities in coordination with executive bodies, campus chief, and line agencies like TUSC. The executive body is responsible for the entire HRM practices and other bodies have their own peculiar functions. For Instance, TUSC conducts the job design, job analysis, selection, recruitment, and performance appraisal process in the entire TU. HRM practices are familiar to the rules and regulations of TU and adopt them.

Abstract:
In pursuit of the quality education, from the academic session 2018, Tribhuvan University (TU) launched the semester system, replacing the annual system in the postgraduate level to all its constituent and affiliated campuses across the country. As a constituent campus of TU, Prithvi Narayan Campus has started the new academic year under the semester system in all master’s degree programs. Implementing the semester system itself is not sufficient to attain quality education. It needs some basic requirements for its successful operation in place of the old annual system that was presumed to fail in delivering quality education. Full-time students, professional teachers, applied and innovative curriculums, scientific teaching methods, a resourceful library, a learning environment and a prompt academic calendar are essential requirements for a well-functioning semester system. To find out the perceptions and evaluations of the postgraduate students on some of the basic requirements of the semester system is the basic objective of this research paper. Class census surveys and informal interviews were conducted in seeking the required data to fulfill the objective of this paper.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:

Giardini, Alessandro, and Marco Graldi.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract.—Trout Unlimited (TU) is a private, nonprofit organization with more than 150,000 members dedicated to conserving, protecting, and restoring trout and salmon fisheries and their watersheds in North America. TU staff and volunteer members engage in education programs, restoration projects, advocacy campaigns, and other conservation activities in support of the organization’s mission. In 2001, TU launched a new national initiative named First Cast to teach students the principles of coldwater resource stewardship through the skills of fly-fishing. The initiative, delivered by TU’s nationwide network of more than 400 volunteer chapters, teaches children from age 7 through 18 in a variety of settings ranging from 1-d casting clinics to 5-d residential camps. These programs have led to demonstrable benefits, including increased angling participation and stewardship behaviors by the participants and strengthened TU chapters. There have also been significant challenges in implementing a rigorous evaluation system and spreading the use of best practices in a decentralized, volunteer organization.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Renewable energy continues to attract much interest due to the depletion of fossil fuels and unsettled political disputes. This study aims to evaluate the current status of energy generation on the campus of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Furthermore, it looks for ways for the TU/e to improve sustainability by finding and proposing alternative solutions. Therefore, a broad scope of various renewable energy sources (RES) has been investigated. From many aspects, the analysis of RES proves that biomass is the most appropriate source of renewable energy for the TU/e campus. Thus, the capability of harvestable biomass fuel in energy generation throughout a year has been investigated for this project, and it has been concluded that solid biomass waste from the campus can provide 1314 MWh heat load annually. In order to achieve as much energy from biomass as possible, a combined heat and power unit (CHP), in order to produce both heat and electricity for new student houses on the campus, has been modeled. Finally, the project results show that a small-scale CHP cycle is capable of producing 366 MWh electricity, as well as 772 MWh heat, annually.

Abstract:
Transforming the academic experience and success of students by building Active Learning Classrooms (ALCs) is increasing, but ALCs are still fewer than traditional classroom spaces. These new learning spaces create an inherent tension between increasing student enrollments and active learning environments. Accommodating increased class sizes does not have to exclude fostering an active learning space. We have an opportunity every time a classroom is renovated or a new building is built to intentionally acknowledge and engage this tension to positively influence student learning and success. As we renovate and construct new learning spaces on our campuses, it is not only important to understand how the “built pedagogy” (Monahan 2000, 2002) and “architecture as pedagogy” (Orr 1993, 1997) of our spaces can help or hinder more active learning pedagogies, but also how to support effective teaching in these spaces (Levesque-Bristol, 2019). While many institutions are prioritizing active learning as old classrooms get renovated, few are doing so at the broad campus-wide scope necessary to affect larger-scale culture change (Park & Choi, 2014). Two such institutions that are developing and supporting large-scale active learning spaces are the Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) and Purdue University (Indiana, USA). TU Dublin and Purdue are conducting collaborative research focusing on how each institution’s new, large-scale construction of formal and informal learning spaces is impacting teaching and learning.

Abstract:
The present study explores the potential imbalance problem of the Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES) system at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) campus, Eindhoven. This ATES is one of the largest European aquifer thermal energy storage systems, and has a seasonal imbalance problem. Reasons for this issue may be the high cooling demand from laboratories, office buildings and the direct ATES cooling system. Annually, cooling towers use on average 250 MWh electricity for the removal of about 5 GWh of excess heat from the ATES to the surroundings. In addition, the TU/e uses a large amount of natural gas for heating purposes and especially for peak supplies. Recovering the surplus heat of the ATES, a CO2 Trans-critical Heat Pump (HP) system to cover particularly peak demands and total heating demand is proposed, modeled and optimized. The model is validated using data from International Energy Agency. Based on simulation results, 708294 nm3 of natural gas are saved where two different scenarios were considered for the ATES efficiency, cost saving and green house gas reduction. In scenario I, the COP of the ATES increased up to 50% by which K€ 303.3 energy cost and 1288.5 ton CO2 are saved annually. On the other hand, it will be shown that the ATES COP in Scenario II will improve up to 20%. In addition, the proposed energy recovery system results in a 606 ton CO2 -reduction and K€152.7 energy cost saving for the university each year.

Abstract:
What happens when a university leaves its campus and enter spaces that seem reserved for completely different functions and areas of life - such as shopping? What opportunities and potentials arise from such a shift for the dialog between science and society? Is it an innovative way for science communication to reach groups other than the education-oriented middle class? What skills do academics need to succeed in such a setting? These and similar questions formed the starting point of the Berlin project “Mall Anders - Open Learning Lab for Science and Society”. For seven months in 2021/22, TU Berlin used a retail space in a shopping mall to test new ways of communicating science and co-producing knowledge in a dialogue between the university, business, civil society, politics, and culture. The relocation of university life to a public shopping center enabled broad public involvement in teaching and learning, high activating potential in overcoming the rifts between university and society and new impulses for science communication, participatory research, and student-organized teaching.

Abstract:
