Abstract:
The general notion of complete hydatidiform moles is that most of them consist entirely of paternal DNA; hence, they do not express p57, a paternally imprinted gene. This forms the basis for the diagnosis of hydatidiform moles. There are about 38 paternally imprinted genes. The aim of this study is to determine whether other paternally imprinted genes could also assist in the diagnostic approach of hydatidiform moles. This study comprised of 29 complete moles, 15 partial moles and 17 non-molar abortuses. Immunohistochemical study using the antibodies of paternal-imprinted (RB1, TSSC3 and DOG1) and maternal-imprinted (DNMT1 and GATA3) genes were performed. The antibodies’ immunoreactivity was evaluated on various placental cell types, namely cytotrophoblasts, syncytiotrophoblasts, villous stromal cells, extravillous intermediate trophoblasts and decidual cells. TSSC3 and RB1 expression were observed in all cases of partial moles and non-molar abortuses. In contrast, their expression in complete moles was identified in 31% (TSSC3) and 10.3% (RB1), respectively (p < 0.0001). DOG1 was consistently negative in all cell types in all cases. The expressions of maternally imprinted genes were seen in all cases, except for one case of complete mole where GATA3 was negative. Both TSSC3 and RB1 could serve as a useful adjunct to p57 for the discrimination of complete moles from partial moles and non-molar abortuses, especially in laboratories that lack comprehensive molecular service and in cases where p57 staining is equivocal.

Abstract:
Splicing is a process, during which non-coding sequences (introns) are cleaved out of pre-mRNA, and exons are ligated. This whole process is catalysed by a multi-megadalton splicing complex, composed of five small nuclear ribonucleoprotein particles (shortly snRNPs), which each contains its own small nuclear RNA molecule and specific set of proteins. During the biogenesis of snRNPs, U4 and U6 snRNPs are assembled to form the di-snRNP, which further associates with U5 snRNP and gives rise to tri-snRNP. With the help of mass spectrometry, we have found previously uncharacterized protein interacting with U5 snRNP, called TSSC4. By immunoprecipitation, I confirmed TSSC4 as a U5 snRNP specific protein and identified the region of TSSC4 responsible for interaction with U5 snRNP. I also showed that TSSC4 interacts with PRPF19, a component of complex driving the catalytic activation of the spliceosome and that this interaction is U5 snRNP-independent. Knockdown of TSSC4 in HeLa cells results in accumulation of di-snRNAs and U5 snRNP in Cajal bodies, nuclear compartments involved in snRNP biogenesis. Similar phenotype was previously observed upon inhibition of tri-snRNP assembly. To analyse the importance of TSSC4 for tri-snRNP assembly, I separated individual snRNPs by glycerol gradient ultracentrifugation...

Abstract:
The co-operative nature of tetraspanin-tetraspanin interactions in membrane organisation suggests that functional overlap is likely to be a factor in tetraspanin biology. CD37 and Tssc6 are immune/haematopoietic restricted tetraspanins, whose function has been previously investigated with CD37"7" and TSSC6"7" knockout mice. Both strains display hyper-proliferative T cell responses to in vitro stimulation, suggesting that functional overlap may occur between these two tetraspanin molecules in the immune system. To test this hypothesis, the immunophenotype of a tetraspanin "double knockout' mouse (CDST^Tssce-7") is described.

With the rapid development of mobile communication devices, mobile commerce has been a new business model gradually. Along with the circumstances urging, the research issues of mobile commerce have been taken acutely. The scope of the study has become increasingly widespread. It is getting difficult to decide appropriate research topics. Because of those multilateral factors, the researchers must understand the current research situations and tendencies in mobile commerce. Additionally, there is still no research literature which focuses on the current research situations and tendencies of mobile commerce up to now, no matter foreign and domestic. Therefore, this study applied content analysis and based on related literatures to develop various classified frameworks on research topics and methodologies of mobile commerce. According to the frameworks, the study analyzed the 128 articles which had been published on the Social Science Citation Index and Taiwan Social Science Citation Index from 2000 to 2008. By the classified frameworks and related statistical analysis, the results revealed the similarities and dissimilarities of mobile commerce between foreign and domestic researches. The study compared with different mobile commerce articles between SSCI and TSSCI by the classifications of research topics and research methodologies. The research results revealed a progressive growth on the quantity since 2003, and then the year 2006 was in full bloom. In the option of research topics, both had the largest proportion on management issues, followed by the technological issues. Furthermore, SSCI had more studies than TSSCI in theory/research part obviously. In research methodologies, the survey research was most frequently used as analysis in SSCI and TSSCI. However, it was different in the second largest proportion of methodlogies, researches applied concepts method on SSCI, but mathematical model/simulation on TSSCI. From the results, these would be beneficial to the understanding of the current research situations and tendencies on mobile commerce research between foreign and domestic during recent years.

This study investigates the current status and trends in Taiwan-Evidence form TSSCI Journals of management field. Specifically, the study adopts content analysis to review the research background, research topics, and methodologies of Taiwan-Evidence form TSSCI Journals from 2000 to 2007. The findings indicate that fields such as finance and accounting have contributed to the majority of the management-related research. In addition, Quantitative analysis has been adopted in most of the research surveyed. Moreover, the findings also suggest that there has been an increase in terms of research volume and research topics. Lastly, the management-related research has become increasingly interdisciplinary and multi-authorship in nature; there is relatively little research conducted by one single author. Given that, it is expected that there will be more joint research that focus on cross-discipline expertise and localized interests.

The management research scope has been growing prosperously because that the world’s economy keeps on growing and enterprise pursuing maximum profit/cost rate for the last 20 years. However, there is no collaborative inquiry was made in the past focusing on the field of management research regarding to data gathering, statistics and analysis as well. This research takes the perspective of collaborative inquiry to study 13 periodicals of TSSCI from 1999 to 2007 with 1996 literatures in total. According to the classification of Chen (2005) about the field of management research, the basic data analysis shows that collaborative research concentrates on the field of comprehensive management periodicals. Most of the literature’s first author is male, showing that the male researchers play an important and aggressive role in this field. In the aspect of study method, the qualitative, imperial and explorative literatures of collaborative inquiry are with the highest usage frequency. Classifying according to author’s service unit, the national university and university of technology occupy the biggest proportion which is about 60.22%. This means that the researchers of the national university have the advantage in the process of the research due to the resources they have. In the aspect of region, the northern region in Taiwan has the biggest proportion of 42.28% while the southern region in Taiwan has the second biggest proportion of 20.84%. In the aspect of cross region, the most of the literatures concentrate inside the Taiwanese Island which is about 86.02%. Literatures from overseas and off-shore islands are 13.56% and 0.42%, respectively. As we can know from the hypothesis test, the literature of collaborative inquiry has the significant relation with the research method, sample size and author’s gender .The most popular method is qualitative, imperial and explorative literature with sample size 30-500 which were led by male author. Through the diverse dimensions analysis, we realize that the large increase of numbers of student and professor has something to do with the diversification of the collaborative inquiry development around recent years. Comparing to the issues about the domestic publication with the SSCI periodicals, there is a steady growth of the SSCI in recent years. Hence, the collaborative inquiry is the most popular research strategy in the field of management research, no matter in domestic or globe. Finally, this research ties to understand the trend of managerial research in the collaborative inquiry point of view for further reference in the future.

With the increasing calls for data sharing, governments, academic institutions and journal publishers have mandated or encouraged scholars to share their research data. Data sharing is a complicated issue involving technical and social rearrangement. There are also calls for empirical examination of research data reuse activities to evaluate the outcome and benefit of data sharing. This study examined the state of data reuse in the Taiwan social sciences journals as well as the data reuse behavior of social sciences scholars. This study employed a content-analysis approach to analyze journal articles indexed in TSSCI. Five TSSCI domains were chosen for the analysis, including sociology, political sciences, education, economics and psychology. Journal articles from 2011 to 2015 were used as the sample for this study. The analyses focused on: (1) the characteristic of the data reuse papers, i.e., proportions of data reuse papers, publishing year, amount of datasets used in each reuse paper, and data-reporting state of paper; (2) the characteristic of the reused data, i.e., the subject distribution of datasets, subject distribution of variables, origination of data, types of data, and year gap between reuse papers and used data. It also used semi-structured in-depth interviews to examine 14 social scientists’ data reuse behavior. The interviews focused on (1) the reason for data reusing; (2) channels for data seeking and discovery; (3) principles governing assessment of the found data; and (4) the preparation treatment of the data prior to its reuse. Based on the analysis, this study found 511 reuse papers published in the said period (17.33% of the total empirical papers), most of which used one dataset. Almost half of the economics papers had used two or more datasets, making it distinct from other social sciences domains. Less than half of the papers had reported data in abstracts, tables, acknowledgements and references. However, most of reuse papers had provided sufficient identification information for the data, e.g., titles, collectors, and year of data. This study also identified 875 reused datasets. It was found that half of the datasets were in economics, political sciences and education. As to the variables used in the reuse papers, sociology, political sciences and education papers tended to use variables related to social characteristics, e.g., race, salary, and gender. On the contrary, economics papers had tended to use macro-level variables relating to country or institutional phenomenon. 46.86% of the reused datasets were originated from governments, followed by academic institutions (23.77%) and corporations (21.14%). Less than 6% of the datasets were from previous individual research. More than half of the datasets were business-transaction data, followed by series surveys (34.63%) and one-time study (8.34%). The year gap between reuse papers and datasets were relatively long in economics and sociology, but shorter in political sciences and education. The interviews revealed that scholars were motivated to reuse data mainly because of the barrier to collect data on their own, good credibility of existing data, ability to extend existing research, explore potential research questions, and the influences of subject disciplines. Scholars sought data through journal articles, colleagues and advisors, websites of government agencies and academic institutions, the promotion of academic institutes and hard copy statistics data. Prior to data use, a researcher would assess the usability and quality of the data, including the collection processes, representativeness of samples, timeliness and accessibility of data. Prior to data reanalysis, researchers may also observe the descriptive statistics of the datasets and conduct the necessary data cleaning and re-processing activities.

Based on three major academic writing style guides, namely American Psychological Association (APA Style), Chicago Manual of Style (Chicago Style), and Modern Language Association (MLA Style), this study discusses the referencing style and formats and core perspectives the academic writing guides specify for scholarly literature written in non-English languages, especially in Chinese. This study is also aimed at forty seven journals in which referencing romanization for scholarly literature of different fields of study in Chinese that TSSCI, THCI Core, A&HCI, SSCI and Scopus have included has long been in progress. This study also analyzes those Notes for Contributors which the journal publishers in Taiwan of different fields of study in humanities and social science notify; and the current romanizing practice for referencing Chinese scholarly articles. In respect of the aforementioned three major academic writing style guides, this advisee proffers general suggestions for the practice of romanizing references subsequent to the main text in Chinese scholarly articles. On the other hand, by using the methods of judgmental sampling, among the journals included in A&HCI, SSCI, and Scopus, this advisee focuses on Sino-Christian Studies, Language and Linguistic, NTU Management Review, and Journal of Educational Media & Library Science; and discusses the current state of those references subsequent to the main texts in each Chinese article being compiled into international citation databases, such as A&HCI, SSCI, and Scopus. Study Conclusion: 1. All references should be translated in the fashion of romanization. In respect of Itemization and Lump-sum translation, these two methods should follow the academic writing guides which the journals follow. Moreover, romanization metadata should be inserted between square brackets. At the moment of romanization in the fashion of phonetic rendition, Pinyin and literal translation should be used. Such notes as “In Chinese” can be added, so as to distinguish original written languages. 2. The principle of verbatim description should be followed at the moment of describing the authors’ English names. In case of unverifiable authors, the regions where the authors belong should be used. 3. After the titles of the books and the works cited are romanized, word boundaries in the titles should be separated into phrases, instead of into single word/syllable. Moreover, the English titles initially used by the authors of the works cited should be inserted between square brackets. 4. It should be feasible to list the English names of the cities and countries where the publishers of the works cited are located. The publishers can follow the way in which scholarly literature titles are romanized. The suggestions this advisee proffers according to the study conclusion are as follows: modifications for APA Style, Chicago Style , and MLA Style; that academic journal publishers specify and provide the guidelines and templates of romanizing references in respect of contributed articles; that international citation databases stipulate and provide their description style for romanizing references; and that the authorities concerned and major academic institutes help to stipulate the romanization style of Chinese scholarly articles, and promote its pertinent Pinyin principle, so as to be able to trace back to original data in Chinese.

Abstract:
Thick-section composites (TSC) are extensively demanded in many fields, such as aerospace, wind energy, and oil and gas industries. However, the manufacturing process of thick-section thermoset composites (TSSC) encounters significant complexities, such as variations of nonuniform resin flow, exothermal reaction and curing, and dimensional stability through the thickness direction. These process-related nonuniformities are expected to result in through-thickness gradients of mechanical properties and curing-induced deformations, leading to undesirable residual stresses and damage. This chapter introduces the application of TSC and issues related to its manufacturing processes. Methods of TSC are examined and analyzed. Fundamental characteristics of curing kinetics, thermal transfer, and residual stress in TSC will be explained. Research of detailed experiments will be referred for readers for further studies.

Abstract:
Solar Turbines Incorporated, a subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc., is currently developing under DOE sponsorship a coal-fueled version of its industrial Centaur Model H gas turbine for cogeneration applications. A critical sub-system component is the coal-fueled combustor island consisting of a Two-Stage Slagging Combustor (TSSC) with an integrated Particulate Rejection Impact Separator (PRIS). Earlier development of the TSSC consisted of basic feasibility demonstrations and emissions evaluations and has been reported previously together with preliminary system design and assessment data. This paper reports on the continued bench-scale development of the combustor island with the objective of developing a data base suitable for use in scaling-up the design by an order of magnitude to a rating consistent with application to the 3.8 MW Centaur Model H gas turbine. Development activities have included analytical and flow visualization modeling; sorbent injection tests for control of sulfur oxides; and baseline evaluations of a continuous slag removal system. A preliminary engine-size combustor island design is also presented.

Abstract:
Solar Turbines Incorporated, under the sponsorship of DOE-Morgantown Energy Technology Center has developed an advanced gas turbine coal-fired two-stage slagging combustor (TSSC). Rig test results using various coal-water mixtures have been reported previously (ASME 85-GT-206 and 85-JPGC/GT-17). As part of the program it was required that the performance of the TSSC when operated with dry micronized coal be compared to that when burning coal water mixtures. As a prerequisite to this performance testing, a reliable high-pressure dry coal feed system had to be developed. A dense-phase feed and transport system was selected as the best compromise that satisfied the various needs. The system design development included the design and testing of a splitter system that divided the primary feed into four secondary flows. A number of problems were encountered and corrected during the testing. These problems, their solutions and the final system configurations are described. A comparison of the emissions using CWM and dry micronized coal is also presented. In general, NOx is higher and CO and UHC are lower on dry coal than on CWM because of the reduction of the reaction zone temperature by the water.

Abstract:
Fuel specifications for a coal-fueled industrial gas turbine are being determined through bench scale testing of a two-stage slagging combustor with coal water mixtures (CWM) possessing different properties. Twelve CWMs have been formulated with variations in coal loading, ash concentration, fuel additives, coal particle size, and coal type. The test combustor is operated at 7 bars with a 600 K air inlet temperature in a high pressure test facility. The two-stage slagging combustor (TSSC) features a rich burning, slagging primary zone and a lean secondary zone. Combustor performance is characterized by measurements of pollutant emissions, slag capture, particulate emissions, and coal utilization. The combustor has demonstrated a high degree of fuel property flexibility with performance remaining above goals in most tests. The properties of the CWMs and the test results are discussed.
