Abstract:
The article discusses craniological materials from the crypt burial site Tsoi-Pede dating back to the late Middle Ages (XIII – XVIII centuries). The population that used the tombs of Tsoi-Pede apparently originated from anthropologically different groups who had been living together for quite a long time, and are probably the ancestors of modern Vainakh peoples.

Stankovich, Zinaida G. "THE ASPIRATION FOR INTERNAL DIALOGUE AS LYRICAL SUBJECTS’ SELF-REFLECTION FORM IN WORKS OF V. TSOI AND I. KORMIL’TSEV." RSUH/RGGU Bulletin. "Literary Theory. Linguistics. Cultural Studies" Series, no. 3 (2021): 84–91. http://dx.doi.org/10.28995/2686-7249-2021-3-84-91.

Abstract:
The article examines the issue of internal dialogue possibility as a way to oneself in the form of literary self-reflection on the material of V. Tsoi’s and I. Kormil’tsev’s works. For that purpose, a comparative analysis of the songs’ texts “Ya – asfal’t” by V. Tsoi and “Nikomunikabelnost” by I. Kormil’tsev is carried out. The lyrical subjects of both authors use such “auxiliary means” as letter (Tsoi) and telephone (Kormil’tsev) in order to reach internal dialog. It is revealed that those means of communication and contact with oneself create an effect of maximal defamiliarization, the ability to look at oneself as at different subject and thus enter the space of self-reflection which is a characteristic feature of Russian rock poetry’s authors worldview. Both poets somehow raise the issue of loneliness. The lyrical subject of Tsoi is closed in his own world where he plays various life roles but at the same time he thinks about the possibility of access to other people. Kormil’tsev’s text, on the contrary, presents excessive communication with other individuals which ultimately hampers the internal dialogue of the lyrical subject. Hence the hero gets into a tragic situation: he has no time and opportunity to communicate with himself but also no desire to open his soul to abstract interlocutors. The self-reflection attempt in the work of Tsoi can be considered largely successful, while the lyrical subject of Kormil’tsev despite repeated efforts can not establish contact with himself.

Abstract:
The purpose of the research in the article is to reconstruct the ideas about static space, represented in the lyrics of the songs of the leader of the rock group "Cinema" V. R. Tsoi. The object of the study was the linguistic means of verbalization of the main spatial fragments of the worldview in the works of V. Tsoi. The methods used in the study are methods of linguistic and cultural analysis, including conceptual, component analysis of the semantics of lexical units. The methodological basis of the study was the scientific developments of domestic schools of logical and conceptual analysis of language. The relevance of the research is determined by the use of modern approaches of linguistic and cultural (conceptual) analysis in identifying the features of individual author's consciousness. The scientific novelty of the research is due to the fact that the concepts of space as a static phenomenon considered in the article are based on the material of V. V.'s songs. Tsoi are insufficiently studied in the scientific literature in the linguoculturological aspect. In the course of the study, the following conclusions were made: V. Tsoi's ideas about static space are concentric: kitchen – house – city – earth – space; these spaces are closed, closed, at the same time inextricably linked by the unity of the center and permeable. The opposition of "friend and foe" and the idea of loneliness permeate the ideas of static space in V. Tsoi's linguistic picture of the world. The results of the research can be used in the practice of teaching disciplines related to the problems of linguistic and cultural (conceptual) analysis.

Abstract:
In this paper we study the stochastic stability of numerical solutions of a stochastic controlled Schr¨odinger equation. We investigate the boundedness in second moment, the convergence and the stability of the zero solution for this equation, using two new definitions of almost sure exponential robust stability and asymptotic stability, for the Euler-Maruyama numerical scheme. Considering that the diffusion term is controlled, by using the method of Lyapunov functions and the corresponding diffusion operator associated, we apply techniques of X. Mao and A. Tsoi for achieve our task. Finally, we illustrate this method with a problem in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR).

Abstract:
Abstract Cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) specific for human minor histocompatibility (H) antigens can be isolated from the blood of major histocompatibility complex (MHC)-matched allogeneic bone marrow transplant (BMT) recipients and may play a prominent role in the graft-versus-host (GVH) and graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) reactions (Tsoi et al, J Immunol 125:2258, 1980; Tsoi et al, Transplant Proc 15:1484, 1983; Goulmy et al, Nature 302:159, 1983; Irle et al, Transplantation 40:329, 1985; and Niederwieser et al, Blood 81:2200, 1993). The identification of minor H antigens that are expressed in hematopoietic cells, including leukemic cells, but not in fibroblasts and other tissue types has suggested that such tissue-restricted antigens could potentially serve as targets for T-cell immunotherapy to enhance GVL activity without inducing GVH disease (de Bueger et al, J Immunol 149:1788, 1992; van der Harst et al, Blood 83:1060, 1994; and Dolstra et al, J Immunol 158:560, 1997). To explore the feasibility of this strategy, donor CD3+CD8+ CTL clones specific for recipient minor H antigens were isolated and characterized from allogeneic BMT recipients. CTL clones were obtained from the majority of donor/recipient pairs. Seventeen distinct minor H antigens distinguishable by their MHC-restricting allele, population frequency, and/or distribution of tissue expression were defined by 56 CD3+CD8+ CTL clones isolated from these patients. The MHC-restricting alleles for these CTL clones included HLA-A2 and HLA-B7, which had previously been shown to present minor H antigens to CTL, as well as HLA-A3, -A11, -B8, -B53, and -Cw7, which had not previously been described to present minor H antigens to CTL. Estimated phenotype frequencies for these 17 distinct minor H antigens range from 0.17 to 0.92. In vitro cytotoxicity assays using hematopoietic cells and fibroblasts as target cells showed that 5 of the 17 minor H antigens were expressed in both hematopoietic cells and fibroblasts. However, 12 were presented for CTL recognition only by hematopoietic cells and not by dermal fibroblasts derived from the same donors. These results significantly extend the spectrum of CTL-defined human minor H antigens that could potentially serve as target antigens for cellular immunotherapy to promote GVL activity after allogeneic BMT.

Abstract:
A network architecture with a global feedforward local recurrent construction was presented recently as a new means of modeling nonlinear dynamic time series (Back and Tsoi 1991a). The training rule used was based on minimizing the least mean square (LMS) error and performed well, although the amount of memory required for large networks may become significant if a large number of feedback connections are used. In this note, a modified training algorithm based on a technique for linear filters is presented, simplifying the gradient calculations significantly. The memory requirements are reduced from O[na(na + nb)Ns] to O[(2na + nb)Ns], where na is the number of feedback delays, and Ns is the total number of synapses. The new algorithm reduces the number of multiply-adds needed to train each synapse by na at each time step. Simulations indicate that the algorithm has almost identical performance to the previous one.

Abstract:
With the increasing use of innovative and expressive dramaturgical actions in contemporary social movements, activists appeal to the public’s emotional and moral convictions so as to elicit action. This study aims to investigate how the affective framing process, composed of sensual–emotional dramaturgical actions, can unleash the mobilizing and consolidating forces in social movements. I seek to elaborate upon the cognitively confined framing perspective by expanding the theoretical discussion to include the affective dimension of framing. I explore these issues through the investigation of a resistance movement in Tsoi Yuen Village, a rural community in Hong Kong, in which people rallied against the demolition of their community to make way for a regional express railway connecting Hong Kong to China. Through this investigation, I argue that dramaturgical tactics employed in social movements enhance the affective mobilization and consolidation power of framing through the mediation of emotional and moral components.

Abstract:
Occupation, blockage and storming are not rare in social movements a decade after China resuming sovereignty in Hong Kong. The organizers and participants usually involve locally born young people. Some of them are secondary school students in their teens. They are known as the fourth generation or post-1980s born Hongkongers. The paper examines the cultural context of social movements involving these youth activists. It mainly studied the campaign against the Sino-Hong Kong Express Railway development project. The project called for the demolition of the Tsoi Yuen Village, a small rural village located on its designed route. Since then, the role of younger generation in social movements has been generally recognized. Social media are widely employed in all stages of the movements with citizen journalists actively involved. The impressive ‘prostrating walk’ imitating Tibetan pilgrims becomes the symbol of these youth activists. It keeps appearing in other campaigns including Occupy Central in Hong Kong in 2014. This paper argues that the rise of nativism, advancement in ICT technology and shifting towards new social movements contribute to the dominant role of youth in recent social movements of Hong Kong. Collective identity of Hongkonger in response to the top-down assimilation by China, strengthens the movement.

Full text
Abstract:
Music and Levels of Narration in Kirill Serebrennikov’s film LetoRussian director Kirill Serebrennikov’s Leto is a film about the rise of the underground rock scene into the mainstream in early 1980s Soviet Union. The film is based on a true story and the lives of two rock legends Majk Naumenko (1955–1991) and Viktor Tsoi (1962–1990), even though it also contains plenty of highly fictitious elements. The music track features Russian and Western rock songs of the era both as original performances as well as cover versions, additionally there are also excerpts of original score. Leto won the best soundtrack award in Cannes in 2018, but it received mixed reviews in Russia. This article analyses the use of music in Leto through formalist close reading and structural analysis. The analysis relies heavily on film music narratology and in particular on Claudia Gorbman’s (1987), Rick Altman’s (1987), and Guido Heldt’s (2013) definitions of diegeticity, non-diegeticity, supradiegeticity, and extrafictivity. The research question concerns how is Soviet era rock used as film music in Leto, and how does this use relate to the rock music conventions in Soviet cinema. In the musical strategy of Leto, there arises a juxtaposition between domestic and foreign music, as well as live and recorded, and original and re-interpreted music. Furthermore, there is a structure and logic in the way the different types of music relate to the levels of narration throughout the film. The narrative level that the music is anchored to has an effect on the interpretation of individual scenes and events as realistic or unrealistic. This also anchors the film in different film genres or traditions: a more realistic, diegetic music performance is connected with traditional biopic dramas, whereas the unrealistic, supradiegetic musical performances are more closely connected with the tradition of Hollywood musicals.

Abstract:
Phono-stylistics is a promising research area. Expressive power of a text depends on its phonetic imagery. The research objective was to identify the pragmatic features of phonic expressive means in translations of contemporary English poetry. The methods included a comparative analysis, phono-semantic and phono-stylistic interpretation of the original poems and their translations, and O. N. Tynyanov's law of versification. The method of sound counting developed by E. V. Elkina and L. S. Yudina was used to calculate the frequency of sounds in the context of phono-semantic analysis in the Russian translations. The method of sound counting designed by Tsoi Vi Chuen Thomas was used to calculate the frequency of sounds in the original English texts. The theoretical foundation of the research was formed by the works by M. A. Balash, G. V. Vekshin, Z. S. Dotmurzieva, V. N. Elkina, A. P. Zhuravlev, L. V. Laenko, F. Miko, L. P. Prokofyeva, E. A. Titov, etc. The study featured the phonics and pragmatics of S. Dugdale’s poem Zaitz and its three translations made by E. Tretyakova, A. Shchetinina, and M. Vinogradova, and C. E. Duffy’s Anne Hathaway translated by Yu. Fokina. The author compared the pragmatics of sound imagery in the English originals and their Russian translations. The research made it possible to define the role of sound imagery in the poetic discourse, as well as the relationship between the sound organization of poetic speech and the pragmatic value at the phonographic level. The results can be used in courses of translation, stylistics, and phonetics.

Abstract:
Even though one of the public health's top achievements of the 20th century involves tobacco cessation, a disproportionate burden of tobacco-related comorbidity still affects those with mental illness (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017; Cook et al., 2014). There is evidence suggesting that psychiatric disorders are associated with an increased prevalence in cigarette smoking (Tsoi, Porwa, & Webster, 2013). One explanation for this is the potentiating effect of nicotine on dopamine receptors (Mao, Gallagher, & McGehee, 2011). Other explanations include poverty, educational advancement and industry bias in tobacco marketing (MMWR Vital Signs: Current Cigarette, 2016; CDC Morbidity and Mortality, 2013). We know that adults with mental illness smoke at rates twice that of the general population, and are nicotine-dependent at rates up to three times higher than the general population (Cook et al., 2014; Grant, Hasin, Chou, Stinson, & Dawson, 2004). Adults with mental illness comprise about 19% of the population, but smoke approximately one-third of all the cigarettes smoked (MMWR Vital Signs: Current Cigarette, 2016). In the United States, the national tobacco use prevalence is estimated at 19%; however, prevalence among those with bipolar disorder is 51%–70% and 36%–80% among those with major depressive disorder (Grant et al., 2004; King, Dube, & Tynan, 2012; Lasser et al., 2000). Despite these high rates, recent studies suggest that smokers with mental illness are highly motivated to quit (Cook et al., 2014). However, it remains rare for mental and behavioural health professionals to offer tobacco cessation pharmacotherapy and counselling to clients with psychiatric disorders.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Protein mass spectrometry and molecular cloning techniques were used to identify and characterize mobile o-halobenzoate oxygenase genes in Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain JB2 andPseudomonas huttiensis strain D1. Proteins induced in strains JB2 and D1 by growth on 2-chlorobenzoate (2-CBa) were extracted from sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis gels and analyzed by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization–time of flight mass spectrometry. Two bands gave significant matches to OhbB and OhbA, which have been reported to be the α and β subunits, respectively, of an ortho-1,2-halobenzoate dioxygenase of P. aeruginosa strain 142 (T. V. Tsoi, E. G. Plotnikova, J. R. Cole, W. F. Guerin, M. Bagdasarian, and J. M. Tiedje, Appl. Environ. Microbiol. 65:2151–2162, 1999). PCR and Southern hybridization experiments confirmed that ohbABwere present in strain JB2 and were transferred from strain JB2 to strain D1. While the sequences of ohbA from strains JB2, D1, and 142 were identical, the sequences of ohbB from strains JB2 and D1 were identical to each other but differed slightly from that of strain 142. PCR analyses and Southern hybridization analyses indicated that ohbAB were conserved in strains JB2 and D1 and in strain 142 but that the regions adjoining these genes were divergent. Expression of ohbAB inEscherichia coli resulted in conversion ofo-chlorobenzoates to the corresponding (chloro)catechols with the following apparent affinity: 2-CBa ≈ 2,5-dichlorobenzoate > 2,3,5-trichlorobenzoate > 2,4-dichlorobenzoate. The activity of OhbABJB2appeared to differ from that reported for OhbAB142 primarily in that a chlorine in thepara position posed a greater impediment to catalysis with the former. Hybridization analysis of spontaneous 2-CBa− mutants of strains JB2 and D1 verified that ohbAB were lost along with the genes, suggesting that all of the genes may be contained in the same mobile element. Strains JB2 and 142 originated from California and Russia, respectively. Thus, ohbAB and/or the mobile element on which they are carried may have a global distribution.

Abstract:
BackgroundP21-activated kinase 4 (PAK4) is a serine/threonine protein kinase that is mostly expressed in tumor and stroma cells. PAK4 activates tumor WNT/β-catenin pathway and regulates cellular morphology, motility, EMT, cell proliferation and survival. Recent studies also showed that PAK4 can actively exclude T cells from tumors, suggesting that therapeutic inhibition of PAK4 can increase T cell infiltration in tumor microenvironment and overcome resistance to checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy.1MethodsWe generated PAK4 knockout (KO) clones in human and mouse tumor cells to validate its biology in vitro and in vivo. We also performed pharmacological evaluation of PAK4 inhibition using Pfizer compounds (referred to as 'PAK4i compounds' below) for their potential tumor-intrinsic and immune-regulatory roles.ResultsNanostring, qPCR and RNASeq analysis showed that PAK4 depletion led to increase of cytokine expression in tumor, including conventional dendritic cell (cDC)- recruiting chemokine CCL4, and type I IFN / ISG pathway genes that are associated with MHC upregulation such as CXCL10. In addition, PAK4 KO sensitizes B16F10 tumors to anti-PD-1 treatment and increases infiltration of cDC and T cells in the tumor microenvironment. We also showed that small molecule PAK4i compounds induced more potent cancer cell growth inhibition over treated normal PBMCs. PAK4i compounds also increased immune-activating and decreased immune exclusion genes in B16F10 cells and tumor explants in vitro. Although PAK4 target engagement is demonstrated by CETSA assay, the compound potency on modulating PAK4 downstream Wnt/ β-catenin pathway is low, suggesting that the aforementioned phenotypic changes induced by PAK4i compounds may be partially attributed to other off-target effects.ConclusionsCollectively, our data suggests that genetic depletion or pharmacological inhibition of PAK4 may induce immune-activating cytokine production in tumor cells, revert immune cell exclusion in tumor microenvironment, and synergize with checkpoint blockade therapies. However, further optimization on these PAK4i compounds is needed to improve its specificity on modulating PAK4 enzyme activities.ReferenceAbril-Rodriguez G, Torrejon DY, Liu W, Zaretsky JM, Nowicki TS, Tsoi J, Puig-Saus C, Baselga-Carretero I, Medina E, Quist MJ, Garcia AJ, Senapedis W, Baloglu E, Kalbasi A, Cheung-Lau G, Berent-Maoz B, Comin-Anduix B, Hu-Lieskovan S, CWang CY, Grasso CS & Ribas A. Abstract:
Abstract Flowers of the previously described Arabidopsis tso1-1 mutant had aberrant, highly reduced organs in place of petals, stamens, and carpels. Cells of tso1-1 flowers had division defects, including failure in cytokinesis, partial cell wall formation, and elevated nuclear DNA content. We describe here two new tso1 alleles (tso1-3 and tso1-4), which caused defects in ovule development, but had little effect on gross floral morphology. Early ovule development occurred normally in tso1-3 and tso1-4, but the shapes and alignments of integument cells became increasingly more disordered as development progressed. tso1-3 ovules usually lacked embryo sacs due to a failure to form megaspore mother cells. The cell division defects described for the strong tso1-1 mutant were rarely observed in tso1-3 ovules. The aberrations in tso1-3 mutants primarily resulted from a failure in directional expansion of cells and/or coordination of this process among adjacent cells. Effects of tso1-3 appeared to be independent of effects of other ovule development mutations, with the exception of leunig, which exhibited a synergistic interaction. The data are consistent with TSO1 acting in processes governing directional movement of cellular components, indicating a likely role for TSO1 in cytoskeletal function.

Abstract:
Background: Traumatic spinal cord injury (tSCI) is a debilitating neurological condition often associated with lifelong disability. Despite this, there are limited data on pediatric tSCI epidemiology in the United States. Objectives: Our primary objective was to estimate tSCI hospitalization rates among children, including by age, sex, and race. Secondary objectives were to characterize tSCI hospitalizations and examine associations between sociodemographic characteristics and tSCI etiology. Methods: We used the 2016 Kids’ Inpatient Database to examine tSCI hospitalizations among children (<21 years). Descriptive statistics were used to report individual and care setting characteristics for initial tSCI hospitalizations. We used Census Bureau data to estimate tSCI hospitalization rates (number of pediatric tSCI hospitalizations / number of US children) and logistic regression modeling to assess associations between documented sociodemographic characteristics and injury etiology. Results: There were 1.48 tSCI admissions per 100,000 children; highest rates of hospitalization involved older (15–20 years), male, and Black children. Hospitalization involving male (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] 0.43; 95% CI, 0.33–0.58) or Black (AOR 0.37; 95% CI, 0.25–0.55) children were less likely to involve a motor traffic accident. Hospitalizations of Black children were significantly more likely to have a diagnosis of tSCI resulting from a firearm incident (AOR 18.97; 95% CI, 11.50–31.28) or assault (AOR 11.76; 95% CI, 6.75–20.50) compared with hospitalizations of White children. Conclusion: Older, male, and Black children are disproportionately burdened by tSCI. Implementation of broad health policies over time may be most effective in reducing pediatric tSCI hospitalizations and preventable injuries.

The Technology System of Systems (TSoS) studies the technologies, as well as the connections among these technologies which were derived from the capabilities requirements and systems requirements. The TSoS related Concepts and studies are introduced. A methodology to the generation and assessment to TSoS is proposed. The generation of TSoS is based on the characteristics of different technologies and corresponding capabilities/systems requirements. The assessment of TSoS is divided as the readiness assessment and the satisfaction assessment. Only the satisfaction assessment is concerned in this study. The TSoS satisfactions assessment studies how well certain technologies can satisfy varied TSoS requirements. A case is studied to validate the efficiency of the proposed methodology using sixty technologies derived from the US weapon acquisition report for the 2012 fiscal year.

Abstract:
We describe an Arabidopsis mutant, tso1, which develops callus-like tissues in place of floral organs. The tso1 floral meristem lacks properly organized three cell layers, and the nuclei of these cells are irregular in size and shape. Further analyses reveal partially formed cell walls and increased DNA ploidy in tso1 floral meristem cells, indicating defects in mitosis and cytokinesis. Our finding that TSO1 is required for organ formation in floral tissues but not in other tissues indicates that TSO1 may encode a floral-specific cell division component, or that TSO1 function is redundant in nonfloral tissues.
