This research, which was based on a socio-historical approach of the popular song, examines the musical production of the Mutantes, a pop rock group created in 1966 by Rita Lee, Arnaldo Baptista and Sergio Dias. In particular, our goal is to comprehend the historical meaning of “experimentalism” in the trajectory of the group during the period between the end of the sixties and the mid-seventies, in order to identify the reasons for the resonant change which took place in the group from 1971 on. Furthermore, we try to understand how these “experimentations” were linked to the evident aspects of the society of the period, such as the reorganization of the Brazilian Culture Industry. We considered as reference the large countercultural movement, which not only abroad but also in Brazil led to important moral, behavioral, political, cultural and ideological transformations in society. Although it may seem contradictory, we believe that it was precisely the reorganization of the Brazilian Cultural Industry that contributed to the Mutantes’ achievements in their various musical experimentations. However, given the social scenario in Brazilian popular music of the period after the AI-5 Bill, which led, among other things to the closing of the phonographic market in its inventiveness, and to the end of the “Song Festivals”, the Mutantes head for progressive rock, thus losing their remarkable musical peculiarities. The standardization of the musical instruments as from the 70’s resulted on the Mutantes’ poor imitation of American-English rock, loosing their parody aspect which characterized their early records.

Full textWhen studying the culture of youth we should analyze it within the context of a consumer society. Therefore, connected to music and fashion (not in a strict sense). The culture of Brazilian youth has been mostly guided by international musical influences, but the youth movements created here in Brazil have always received a new look, especially between the 70s and 80s, the period with the greater effervescence and musical creativity. The goal of this work is to analyze this issue basing this analysis on its relation with cultural industry, pointing the specifics of markets performance both to the commercialization of spontaneous youth movements as well as to the strategies involved on the creation of phenomena and new fashions. Understanding how that process has happened in our country is essential to think about the directions of the current youth and its relation with consumption. The cultural industry is made up of various systems, including the media. Hence, based on two publications - Veja magazine and Folha de São Paulo newspaper, this work tries to describe the relationship between the media approach and the consolidation of musical movements, or phenomena, by the cultural market.

This study investigates the contribution of article 2 of Complementary Law nº 4, dated December 2, 1969, known as the “Album is Culture Law”, in the expansion of the Brazilian music market in the 1970s. An economic policy of strong stimulus to the consumption of the military regime, the “Album is Culture Law” authorizes record companies to write down, from the amount of the Merchandise Circulation Tax (ICM), the value of artistic copyrights and related, paid to Brazilian authors and artists. The search for foreign investment was a fundamental aspect of the economic model of the dictatorship. The “higher efficiency” of multinational companies was expected to contribute to rapid growth. This policy favored the expansion of foreign record companies, which had their interests and demands accepted by the government.

Aerospace equipment manufacturers have expressed considerable frustration with the lack of success in implementing process and cultural change initiatives within their organizations. The objective of this report is to offer more successful methods of designing and executing change initiatives in the aerospace industry. This report provides an analysis of three particular change initiatives in execution at Pratt&Whitney Aircraft at the time of this writing. The successes and failures of three initiatives are analyzed and compared in the context of the major barriers to change faced by the industry. The arguments made in the discussion and in the following conclusions suggest that success depends on the application of entrepreneurial marketing and negotiations theories: 1. Solving a quantifiable, pressing source of pain for the customer 2. Results selling by providing a solution versus solely a technology 3. Focusing on a single customer with the budget and power to employ the new technology 4. Understanding the positions and interests of the parties involved 5. Establishing a bargaining range when faced with resistance 6. Enabling a give and take of concessions and tradeoffs in the bargaining process.

This article reflects on a study conducted in the South African security industry, as one of the few industries that utilise diverse work teams as part of their operational success. The rational for using work teams will be explained, with an emphasis on the team leaders. The model of Eales-White (1996: 26) was applied to the development of the team member questionnaire, and the subsequent results will be reported.

Full textThis study starts from the following question: Is reflection possible in cultural industry? Today, the amplitude of this concept has reached proportions which, concentrating on the one hand on those who see in it a positivist sense, as an integrator system, and, on the other hand on those who are considered pessimistic, by conceiving the totalitarian system of the cultural industry as a synonym of the end of times, more and more sink into dualisms which prevent reflection, ignoring any possible ambiguities in society and in the system itself. Contrary of this point and in order to answer that question, this study aims to present and discuss the contradictions of the concept of cultural industry, through the texts of the authors of the Frankfurt School who created it, especially Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer, in order to demystify and reduce the distances of the dual abysses which studies of this system have been treated. Guided by the principles of the Critical Theory of Society, this research hopes to show that, on the contrary of what is commonly understood about the study of this concept, it has also its contradictions and can not be reduced to definitions which are set into opposing blocs. If, on the one hand, the consideration of the cultural industry as apocalyptic is true, because of its totalitarian character and as the essential mediation for the maintenance of the unfair order and reification of individuals, also on the other hand, it is not less as well the concept in which it carries in itself the antidotes of this totality as far as it denies it. Result of the dialectic of enlightenment, the cultural industry, as an expression of barbarity and while as an objective spirit would remind the nature of domination present in the contradiction of this same spirit, and therefore, also the true pending humanity inherent to the very same dialectic, still presenting resistances, even between itself and reality, expressed by the negativity of those arts which can still contradict it, as well as resistances inherent this very same system. Such dialectic which, as this study intends to show, does not only hold on the countries where the concept of cultural industry was created or in the old continent, but it is also present in those where, under the aegis of the delay such as those who want to advocate a kind of puerility of these countries could establish a possible autonomy of this system; in samba and even in the defense of folk art

The present dissertation has the main goal of broadening the understanding about social representations of luso-tropicalism and attitudes related to cultural diversity and the relations between them, in a sample of 148 university students, as well as reflecting about their possible implications on the organizational context. It also aims to contribute to the validation of the two scales of measurement used. This is an exploratory and descriptive study, given the few existent investigations concerning this subject. In relation to data analysis, we used essentially exploratory factor analysis, descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. The results seem to suggest agreement with the general assumptions of luso-tropicalism, to some extent, as well as acceptance of cultural diversity. In addition, some significant correlations were found between the factors of the two scales of measurement, which possible implications in the organizational context are explored in the discussion.
Rocha, Rita Fernandes. "Mestiçagens linguísticas e interculturalismo: novos vieses do luso-tropicalismo freyriano." Master's thesis, 2009. http://hdl.handle.net/10451/1767.
A theory created by Gilberto Freyre, the Luso-tropicalism sees the miscegenation as a facilitator of the intercultural relation, by blurring the inequalities that result from the social asymmetries, by turning the human relations more flexible and by increasing the interest on the other's culture and values. As an adjuvant to the plasticity , adaptability and cultural reciprocity that would characterize the way of contact between the Portuguese and the tropics . The miscegenation would be responsible for the born of a third cultural civilization, with its unity of feelings and cultures intact, even if extinguished the political boarders of the ultramarine Portuguese empire. Throughout his work, the sociologist presents proposals that aim to protect the common culture, such as the creation of a solidarity and cooperation stage: a federation of culture . Furthermore, he underlines the role of the Portuguese language in the strengthening of the third civilization's consciousness of kind . This essay aims to analyse the present situation by bringing to the actual days two ideas of Gilberto Freyre: the first, of federation of culture, the second, of linguistic miscegenation. On one hand, are the measures that are taking place to promote the Portuguese language on the countries where it is official respecting its peculiarities, in which concerns to tradition, rights and dignity ? Or is the logic still hegemonic? On the other hand, how can we re-design the miscegenation, so that it can effectively contribute to the consolidation of two types of unity: the national and that of the transnational lusophone project ? How can this re-design contribute to inter and intracultural dialogue? A new idea of Lusophony surfaces, moulded with heritage, work and distance. It success depends, in great part, of the other of the educational projects of the Portuguese language countries.

In the present work, we intend to clarify the possible influence of cultural diversity in an organizational context based on the basic assumptions of Luso-tropicalism. Starting from the Luso-tropicalist ideas of the Brazilian sociologist Gilberto Freyre, and from the appropriation and manipulation of the theory by the regime in order to enhance the qualities of the Portuguese people, it will be interesting to verify whether the strategic discourse operated by the regime has spread, through common sense , even to contemporary Portuguese society and, secondly, whether the way we position ourselves socially and identify with different cultures has an influence on the productivity and well-being of the organization and its employees. It should be noted that since Portugal is the country with a very representative colonial past, the constant flow of people from different cultures is considerable. It is important to understand this and the way in which diversity can be managed, both in society and in organizations, in order to perceive diversity as an enhancer in socio-cultural and organizational development. The sample consists of 117 portuguese workers and the data was collected using self-administered questionnaires. This study also aims to contribute to the validation of the scale of cultural diversity used. The results obtained seem to sugest a certain agreement with the general fundamentals of luso-tropicalism, as well as a tendency towards the acceptance of cultural diversity in na organizational context. The correlations that were founded between the factors of the two scales of measurement and their impact in na organizational context are adressed in the discussion.

Although the highly economic benefit of the cultural industry becomes the power of economic growth for developed country, the discussions on related field are on the initial stage. For that reason, this study attempted to understand how the cultural industry develops and its spatial organization by viewing the cultural industry’s activities on the geography of spatial characteristics. The purposes of this study include, first, to define the meaning, content and product-consume system of the cultural industry. Second, to divide the spatial hierarchy by Q analysis and cluster analysis with the Industry, Commerce and Service Census of 1981, 1986, 1991 and 1996, and discuss the applicability of two methods. In recent years, Taiwan faces international competitions caused by globalization. The impact of globalization on the traditional industry and agriculture in central and southern Taiwan is also huge. Therefore, under the pressure of social transformation, promoting local cultural industry development is an important strategy to urban regeneration and local economic revitalization. Jiji Town, reconstructed after the 921 earthquake, also faces the same crucial issue of transformation. The purpose of the thesis is to explore how to develop Jiji local cultural industry and with the help of local characteristics, add values to the local industry after examining the town's current needs and situations. The first of part of the thesis is to examine the current situations of industrial development in Jiji Town by interviews and field surveys. Second, evaluate Jiji Town's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) by analyzing the data gathered to develop the town's sustainability by transforming and promoting the local cultural industry into high value added cultural creative industry. The results of the thesis are as followed. 1. The tangible assets can be transformed into the intangible assets of Jiji Town because the town has the distinguishing cultural and traditional features. 2. Intangible assets of local cultural industry in Jiji Town haven't reached a common view yet. 3. Local inhabitants should work with the government to gather their strengths to fight against the market oriented business running style-- "night market" or "traditional market" cultural industry styles. 4.The local township needs sincere devotion to build its town's unique cultural characteristics. Suggestions: 1. To emphasize cultural asset preservation and cultivate new collective memory, "Old Scenic Spot Rebuilt" or "Jiji Camphor Industry Center" is a plausible way to activate the nostalgic atmosphere. 2. Complete tourist routes by cycling or train needs to be planned and constructed to enjoy a nostalgic trip. Constructing cycling routes around the town to combine the town's history and culture is also needed. 3. To make tourists identify and appreciate the history, culture, and local customs of Jiji , complete sightseeing and tourist information and well-educated tour guides to guide tours and explain are needed. 4. Industry, the government, and academic authorities concerned should work together and communicate with local inhabitants to promote and cultivate the local cultural industry.

Meanwhile, in the same direction, culture should be taken as a means, so that the entire nation prospers as our own culture thrives while facing the foreign cultures coming from other parts of the world. The French cultural policies, as well as the contents and the measures of the French cultural industry, have been practiced and improved for decades. Therefore they are the perfect models to learn from. With the globalization and internationalization in Taiwan, the economic structure of Taiwan has changed dramatically. In the beginning, there were more E.O.I. in Taiwan, but nowadays there are more strategic industries. While the public and private sectors are working on High-Technical Industry, there are other industries booming at the same time─“Service” and “Modern Cultural Industry (M.C.I.)”. According to related research, “Service” and “M.C.I.” are growing and will become an important role on the stage of economic development. There are some significant achievements about “Service” research, but there are not so much research about “M.C.I.”. Furthermore, there are just little research about the interaction between the M.C.I. and space. Therefore, this thesis analyzes the M.C.I. of Taiwan from 1981 till now to realize their development, location, and interaction, then point out the planning meaning. This research paper studies the meaning of M.C.I. and the related article about the relationship between this industry and the development of city and region to build the thinking structure and logic, and be the theoretical foundation of later sections. The second part mainly analyze the “Cultural Industry Production System (C.I.P.S.)” in Taiwan area. After the clarification and analysis of the general statistic data, we discuss the situation of M.C.I. and the general status of location, and find out more about the phenomena of the development of this industry in Taiwan. The third part gives us an example of Taipei metropolis to discuss M.C.I.’s different situation in Taipei metropolis. Through the result of statistic and interviews, discover the interaction relationship of C.I.P.S. The last part focuses on the result and points out the meaning of space planning to provide relative sectors suggestion about the environment planning of M.C.I. Finally, we can get some important conclusions: 1. The M.C.I. have become an important role in the economic development of Taiwan. 2. The M.C.I. almost locate in main cities of Taiwan., especially in Taipei metropolis. The percentage of M.C.I. is above 40. 3. Because Taipei metropolis plays the leader role of M.C.I., the M.C.I. of Taiwan still centralizes in Taipei metropolis. 4. The C.I.P.S. groups keep an “beneficial and dependent relationship”. Reflection on the space level , this kind of relationship makes the M.C.I. become more rely on each other. Thus, it cannot be away from Taipei metropolis.

The distinction between “mainstream music” and “independent music” is always ambiguous and confusing. The thesis attempts to trace the changes and constructions of the discourse of popular music in Taiwan, and accordingly, to explain various ways of speaking on music in different historical contexts. The thesis asserts that, in the dynamic field of music, to stress the dichotomy of“mainstream” and “independent” music would be useless for fostering the progressiveness of music cultures. The generation and development of the progressiveness of music culture depends both on internal and external conditions. As to internal condition, a creative aesthetics and progressive ideologies of the music artists are the key points. As to external condition, the public music policy plays an important role. To improve the progressiveness of music culture, the thesis refers to some policy examples in other countries and proposes some suggestion for Taiwan music policy making.

In 1998, the World Bank issued a report entitled "Culture in Sustainable Development: Investing in Cultural and Natural Endowments," which proposed that cultural endeavors provide new opportunities for local development, and can strengthen the social capital and the social cohesive force of a city. The concept of “cultural industry” was first put forward in the 1970’s, but the idea of using cultural enterprise as a way to develop and promote a local economy did not gain widespread attention until the 1990’s. This idea suggests that a contemporary metropolis’ development must be closely integrated with cultural industry. In other words, contacts between civic culture and economic activity are established as the elite people in all sectors of society begin to work together for the common end of advancing the city’s economic and cultural growth. As Taiwan's capital and its center for collection and distribution of cultural resources, the city of Taipei has a multicultural makeup and a cosmopolitan, urban disposition. But the issue of how to utilize Taipei’s unique cultural characteristics and its resources to put together a rich and full civic culture platform, which has economic/industrial value, requires the establishment of contacts between the city’s “industry” and the city’s “culture.” This report proposes a feasible policy plan for Taipei to continue its strong cultural and economic development and to face international interurban competition. The research direction of this report is that it follows models of consumer culture by first analyzing the resources of Taipei, including the available artistic and cultural talent, space, and activities (events and festivals). It also addresses official city organizations, public authority of government-run organization, the cultural imagination of Taipei, and the appearance and environment of Taipei. The report then provides perspective on cultural industry policy development in Taipei, based on the overall cultural/social/economic structure of the city. It is hoped that the city base and cultural industry will develop strategies and embark upon active projects for Culture Industry in Taipei.

But for those small towns, lacking industrial infrastructure and mercantile activities, having a sparse population, and what’s worse, almost all having a crisis of exodus of young people, a feasible way of rejuvenating the townships and creating job opportunities for their residents, in my opinion, will be to develop industries with their distinctly local features. If these small towns’ problem of lacking basic infrastructure can be solved, if they attach importance to the marketing and packing of their local products and produce, and if they increase their recreation and leisure services in conjunction with their neighboring area’s cultural features demonstrating their unique images, they will not only be able to create local job opportunities, attract the out-flowing talents and young people back, but increase the local governments’ tax revenue; moreover, contribute to our nation’s overall revenue and enhance our nation’s world image. With her unique historical background of over one hundred year, cultural factors, in comply with the central government’s policy to develop industries with local features so as to encourage economic prosperity, Yingge township has successfully advertised her ceramics & pottery industry by way of holding “Ceramics Festivals.” In so doing, the Yingge Ceramics Museum has played a key role in the nick of time. The museum not only has made the Yingge township a center of ceramics business, but also made the development of industries with local features with the enriched contents of her diverse cultures and educations. We found that Yingge can attribute its success of making ceramics & pottery handcraft an industry with distinctive local features to the following reasons: 1. The selection of the local industry must match up its historical background and culture roots. 2. Local Government must play a leading role in developing its local industry. 3. Local Government must effectively rid the boycotts of its local factions. 4. Community consciousness of its denizens and businessmen is the bedrock of developing local industries. 5. Local ceramics & pottery handcraft has successfully been transformed into a second-tier industry to its high-tech ceramics development. Developing industries with distinctive local features is the indispensable lodestar for future local development. However, we also need to understand that developing industries with distinctive local features is not the only cure or panacea to the decline of community. Each local government must, according to its historical background, comply with the Central Government’s public policies and administrative measures, and in conjunction with various local resources, to rejuvenate local townships and build a solid foundation for our nation’s future development by mustering up enough esprit-de-corps to get all people strive for success.

Sanhsia's Indigo Dyeing Festival is approaching its eighth year. This traditional industry once lost, under the long-term cultivation of the local “Sanchiaoyung Cultural Promotion Association” has undergone a series of in-depth nurturing programs. The promotion of Sanhsia Indigo Dyeing began with the interest and devotion of a few people in the Sanchiaoyung Cultural Promotion Association. Later, there were more participants with a common consciousness, and its continuous development successfully attracted local teachers and community inhabitants, and has received strong support from public agencies. New forms of marketing has been created by Sanhsia's Indigo Dyeing Festival’s incorporation of industry, government, and academia, so that indigo dyeing is no longer a traditional industry that relies on sale of products, but can gradually approach a cultural industry predicated upon educational marketing, experiential marketing, and cultural merchandise marketing This study focuses on Taipei County Sanhsia Village’s Sanchiaoyung Cultural Promotion Association” as a case study, and uses educational marketing, experiential marketing, and cultural products marketing as theoretical foundations. A theoretical basis is “experiential marketing” proposed by Schmitt (1999), which is used to deeply discuss how sensory marketing, emotional marketing, thought marketing, action marketing, and relational marketing have, among the variegated cultural consumption choices, attracted consumers to enter Sanhsia to enjoy “the experience of indigo dyeing,” “the learning of indigo dyeing,” and cultural consumption. Research is conducted through in-depth interviews which included administrative personnel and seed instructors of the Promotion Association, to analyze the marketing strategies used by this non-profit organization – “educational marketing,” “experiential marketing,” and “cultural merchandise marketing” – and how they were executed and perceived by consumers Results of this study yields the eleven conclusions below: 1. The Promotion Association’s administrative and planning personnel have backgrounds relating to societal and educational marketing planning, to plan for marketing that is suited to the learners. 2. Appropriate marketing plans conform to the organization’s goals. 3. Use the workshop as a marketing team, to elevate the indigo dyeing know-how of marketing personnel. 4. A combination of culture, history, and natural resources is used to illustrate features of the Sanhsia Indigo Dyeing cultural industry. 5. Marketing with public agencies has gained support and assistance; this helps the heritage of indigo dyeing cultural industry. 6. Educational marketing progresses via singular marketing →differential marketing →target marketing. 7. Design different experiential activities based on different learning types. 8. Marketing personnel combine the experiential activities with local cultural resources, and emphasize explanations and guidance. 9. The diverse planning of the experiential marketing materials package promotes the industrialized promotion of indigo dyeing culture. 10. The indigo dyeing cultural merchandise marketing is a cultural promotion model in the practice stage 11. Sponsoring the Indigo Dyeing Festival broadens the participating population, which elevates know-how and vision or marketing personnel.
