Full textThis thesis is in keeping with the general pattern of curative operations in order to improve energy quality and particularly to make up for harmonic pollution, reactive power but also unbalances. A three-phase shunt active power filter (SAPF) constitutes the disturbances mitigation device and a PD3 bridge feeding a type R-L impedance represents the nonlinear load. After a modelling of the SAPF structure, a synthesis on the parameters estimation, such as the DC voltage Vdc, the value of storage capacity Cdc and the coupling inductance or output filter Lf, enabled us to obtain the optimal values of parameters which are exploited in simulation and in an experimental way. With techniques based on tracking control design, a multivariable PLL and a type IP regulator were synthesized and their stability and robustness were confirmed before being introduced into the developed strategies of order. From network currents and voltages measurements respectively isi, vsi, as well as DC voltage Vdc, control techniques were worked out running in current, in voltage and power and analyzed in simulation then validated in laboratory experiment test bench. A detailed comparison is made with criteria as the simplicity of implementation, the stability and the robustness of the order to the various modes balanced and unbalanced, the HF presence and finally the energy quality provided relating to the imposed standards

Full textThis dissertation deals with the control and observation of the voltage source inverter. It is divided into 4 main parts. The first one concerns the modeling of the power converter, and its classical représentation into différent coordinates is shown in détail. At the same time, we présent in détail the différent applications which we are interested in: the reactive power compensation and the active filtering. The second part treats the study of a direct sliding mode controUer based on the minimal simplex. This approach allows to overcome some ambiguity problems arisen in the task of selecting the inverter's switches signais. Comparisons with the classical hystérésis controUer are made in order to highlight the main properties of the proposed approach. In the third part of this dissertation we propose an approach, based on the previous one, which allows to fixe the switching frequency of the converter. Moreover, this previous resuit was enhanced by adding a compensation technique of the delays induced by the measurement process. Some expérimental results showed the validity of the analysis and simulations. The last part of this work deals with the design of two kinds of nonlinear observers (a Kalman-type observer and a sliding mode observer). When applied to the power inverter, the observers offer us the possibility of reducing the number of sensors or even of using this soft sensor as redundant for security purposes. Two cases are treated in détail: an observer for the DC-link voltage from the measurements of the currents of the main and another one which allows to observe the currents of the main from the DC-link voltage's measurement

Full textIn our works, we are interested in control of high-switch-count power converters. The development of multileg, multilevel converters has opened the access to high power and high harmonic quality. The special control of these devices brings to the converter advanced abilities that are more and more requested nowadays, like active harmonic filtering, fault tolerance, active and reactive power transfer, High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) links, etc. However, a higher number of switches in a conversion structure leads to a higher number of control variables, as well as more redundancies and a combinatorial explosion of the number of possible configurations. The development of control laws resulting from approaches traditionally designed for classical topologies, as for space vector modulation methods, becomes harder for new, much complex topologies. Moreover, the too many available switches bring strong control redundancies that are not necessarily exploited, at least arbitrarily. We propose a new control approach that is expected to be less dependent on the number of switches, and that does not suffer from limitations proper to geometrical modulation methods. Firstly, our approach consists in the algebraic formulation of control problems that are generally under-determined, highlighting the presence of redundancies and degrees of freedom, and constrained, because control limitations are taken into account. Interestingly, a connection can be highlighted to the so-called control allocation problem in flight control, robotics, or marine applications. Secondly, in order to compute a unique and optimized control solution at each switching period, we develop new control allocation methods for power converters based on on-line numerical optimization using linear programming techniques. Consequently, duty cycles are automatically optimized to satisfy voltage references while respecting saturations and exploiting available redundancies depending on the state of the converter. We highlight the properties naturally offered by our methods. In particular, all modulation solutions yield a maximized extension of the linearity range of the converter. We propose control allocation methods for the voltage or current control of many topologies: the four-leg two-level inverter, the multicellular flying capacitor inverter, the modular multilevel inverter

Full textAn electrotechnical system, and more particularly the association of a static converter and a load, constitutes a hybrid dynamic system. Indeed such a system can be seen like a continuous process controlled by an energy modulator having a finite number of configurations. For these applications, in order to obtain a powerful control of the position or speed, it is necessary to control the torque with a very fast dynamics. In this document, we deal only with torque control. We propose control laws which directly determine the configurations of the energy modulator to use in order to track as soon as possible the references of the continuous state-variables of the system. As the computing duration has to be very short (a few tens of microsecond), a local simplified model which takes into account the behavior of the whole energy modulator - continuous process is used. Various control strategies are developed. For the first one, after having predicted the behavior of the system for a given horizon for each possible configuration, various cost functions can be used to choose an adequate configuration which will be applied during the next computation cycle. For the second one, several configurations and their respective application times are determined at each occurrence of the algorithm. With this strategy, performances during steady state operation are improved and the constraint for calculation duration is reduced. The third method has the advantage of not exploring all the possible configurations by directly calculating the duty cycles (over a calculation period) of the discrete elements of the energy converter. This simplifies the algorithm and facilitates its implementation in real time. All these methods were validated with experiments in the first part of this document with a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (PMSM) controlled by a two-level three-phase inverter. The second part is devoted to the use of a matrix converter. After its realization by ourselves, the first control strategy is applied to the whole matrix converter - PMSM. Experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach. This original methodology is exploitable for the control of converters of with more complex structures

Full textSquirrel cage induction machines (IM) are reliable, robust and low cost manufacturing electrical machines. For historical and reliability reasons, they are mainly equipped with distributed stator windings. However, even if the latter ensure very satisfactory operation, they have significant end-coils lengths, which generate non-negligible Joule losses. Recently, different fractional slot concentrated windings (FSCW) with reduced end-coils have been used in synchronous machines with interesting performances. In addition to reducing stator Joule losses, these windings enable to design machines that are more compact and fault tolerant. Their use is less common in IM due to the problems induced by spatial harmonics in the magneto motive force when supplied. The aim of this work is to find the best way to use FSCW windings in IM while ensuring good performances. A detailed analysis is first carried out to precisely understand the physical phenomena associated with the use of FSCW in induction machines both in steady state and during start-up. A parametric analytical model of a squirrel cage induction machine was then developed. This model enables to design FSCW windings with a controlled spatial harmonic content but also rotors with different numbers of bars that are equidistant or not. On the basis of this tool, optimizations were carried out both on the stator and its winding and on the rotor structure, showing that it is possible to achieve "uncommon" structures with satisfactory performance. Finally, a fractional slot concentrated winding IM with an innovative rotor cage was developed. Its performance in terms of the developed torque was evaluated through numerical simulations and tests carried out on a prototype
