Abstract:
-Trieste was the main commercial port of the Hapsburg Empire on the Mediterranean since 1719. During the 19th century the city underwent a series of projects for upgrading its port facilities and rail projects in order to improve its links with Vienna and with the productive regions inland. Eighteenth-century city planning was an orderly affair leading to an orderly expansion. However, the second half of the nineteenth century brought Trieste into a period of great instability, where projects approved by the government of Vienna clashed with guidelines proposed by the city's elite The projects presented in this period do not follow any general plan. They are neither broad-range nor long-term. The city developed through partial plans. These plans tried to exploit the plains areas between the sea and the high karst plateau that dominated the city. In addition, they went towards reinforcing the interests of the local economic powers.

Abstract:
Abstract. The classical Karst transboundary aquifer is a limestone plateau of 750 km2 that extends from Brkini hills in Slovenia to Isonzo River in Italy. For 20 years, and especially in the last two years, the Mathematic and Geosciences Department of Trieste University has run a monitoring project in order to better understand the groundwater hydrodynamics and the relation between the fracture and conduit systems. A total of 14 water points, including caves, springs and piezometers are monitored and temperature, water level and EC data are recorded. Two sectors are highlighted: the southeastern sector mainly influenced by the sinking of the Reka River, and a northwestern sector connected to the influent character of the Isonzo River. Water table fluctuations are significant, with risings of > 100 m. During floods most of the circuits are under pressure, and only a comparative analysis of water levels, temperature and EC permits a precise evaluation of the water transit times in fractured and/or karstified volumes.

Abstract:
An interdisciplinary study of the ancient landscape of the Trieste Karst (north-eastern Italy) is presented in this paper. Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) has been applied to obtain high-resolution topography of the 25 km2 investigated area in order to identify potential archaeological anomalies. The ALS-derived high-resolution Digital Terrain Models have been visualized and managed using QGIS and Relief Visualization Toolbox. Possible archaeological anomalies have been verified through field surveys and interpreted using a multidisciplinary approach mainly based on the collection of associated archaeological materials and geomorphological and stratigraphic evidence. From a methodological perspective, the elaboration and study of ALS-derived images, and in particular the local relief model visualization, combined with the collection of Roman shoe hobnails, have proven to be effective approaches for the certain identification and dating of Roman roads in karst environments. The obtained results have revealed an almost completely unknown Roman landscape: the investigated area was crossed by important public roads, whose layout has been accurately reconstructed for a total length of over 10 km, and occupied by large country estates, sometimes enclosed within boundary walls perfectly fitting the Roman land division grid. One of the identified buildings could correspond to a road station, perhaps the Avesica known from ancient itinerary documents—i.e., the itinerarium Antonini Augusti—due to its position and proximity to a major road junction.

Abstract:
Abstract. In a mature karstic system, the realisation of galleries using the methodology of railway tunnel boring machine (TBM) involves particular problems due to the high risk of interference with groundwater (often subject to remarkable level variations) and with cavities and/or thick fill deposits. In order to define groundwater features it is necessary to investigate both hydrodynamic and karstification. To define and quantify the karst phenomenon in the epikarst of the Trieste Karst (Italy), an applied geomorphological approach has been experimented with surface and cavity surveys. The surface surveys have contributed to determining the potential karst versus the different outcropping lithologies and to define the structural setting of the rocky mass also through the realisation of geostructural stations and the survey of the main lines thanks to photo-interpretation. Moreover, all the dolines and the cavities present in the area interested by the gallery have been studied by analysing the probable extension of caves and/or of the secondary fill deposits and by evaluating the different genetic models. In an area 900m large and 27km long, which has been studied because of the underground karst, there are 41 dolines having diameters superior to 100m and 93 dolines whose diameters range between 100 and 50m; the dolines whose diameters are inferior to 50m are 282. The entrances of known and registered cavities in the cadastre records are 520. The hypogeal surveys have shown 5 typologies in which it has been possible to group all the cavities present in a hypothetical intersection with the excavation. The comparison between surface and hypogeal structural data and the direction of development of cavities has allowed for the definition of highly karstified discontinuity families, thus having a higher risk. The comparison of the collected data has enabled to identify the lithologies and areas having major risk and thus to quantify the probability of intersection with the different cavity typologies for each area. To make an example, out of 27000m of studied gallery 3930 are the metres expected to be at very high "karst risk". Out of these, as a whole 310 are risky because of the probable presence of gallery cavities, 2170 because of the probable presence of pits and sinkholes diffusely present under the dolines, and along 1450m karst is particularly intense. Moreover, 2200 should be the metres in which the rocky mass will be particularly divided because of tectonic causes. From a hydrogeological point of view a monitoring of water level has started to quantify water excursion, due to closeness of the railway tunnel to the mean water level. First results related to galleries intersection are here presented.

Abstract:
The area of the Classical Karst is roughly defined by a triangle with Ljubljana, Trieste and Rijeka as its vertices. This is the area where the first scientific studies of karst phenomena were conducted. Two sub-regions that particularly attracted researchers are presented. Kras/Carso plateau with the Škocjan caves and the underground course of the Reka river. The groundwater flow of Reka-Timavo is characterised by high recharge variability of allogenic inflow of Reka River and flow restrictions in the upper part of subterranean flow, which control regional backfloodings observed in cave systems. The recharge area of Ljubljanica Springs is known for a cascading series of poljes in intermediate cave systems. The area has been in focus of hydrological studies for over a century, but many phenomena have been resolved in the last decade based on results of continuous autonomous monitoring in the last decade. Key words: Classical Karst, Kras, Škocjanske Jame, Reka-Timavo system, Ljubljanica Recharge Area, Polje. IZVLEČEK Območje Klasičnega krasa v grobem objema trikotnik z Ljubljano, Reko in Trstom v ogliščih.

Abstract:
As is well known, peninsular Italy was considerably involved in the “Cetina phenomenon” during the second half of the 3rd millennium BC, as illustrated by the occurrence of pottery akin to Cetina-types at several sites on the Adriatic side; recent discoveries in present-day Campania have enriched this picture and evidence from the north-east (present-day Veneto and Trentino), besides that from the Trieste/Slovenian karst, may also enlarge this range of connections. The most probable hypothesis to explain the situation is that of small groups, which identified themselves with some elements that we consider as ‘Cetina’, moving from the eastern Adriatic (mainly Dalmatia) to the northern and western Adriatic. Several questions remain open, such as those related to the patterns of interaction between the eastern Adriatic small groups reaching the Italian regions and the local communities. What was the dimension of these cross-cultural contacts and how did they differ from one region to another? To what extent did the foreign groups blend with the local ones? Which were the aftermaths of these interactions? This paper presents a critical reconsideration of the available evidence from continental and peninsular present-day Italy, including the geographical setting of sites and reciprocal distances, with the aim of tracing similarities and differences between the various cases. Hypotheses on both the chronology and patterns of these Cetina interactions are discussed.

Abstract:
Pakistan has been facing the problem of energy crisis since 2007 and it has adversely affected the productivity and growth of the economy. To overcome this problem, under CPEC, 21 energy projects have been started in four provinces of Pakistan, Gilgit Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK). This study tries to access the impact of the CPEC energy project located in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir referred to as the 720MW Karot hydropower project on the economy of Pakistan using the Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model. Based on Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) 2010-2011 and) Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) database, this study simulates the impact of Karot hydropower project on some of the macroeconomic variables. The simulated results reveal that real GDP and total exports to other countries increase owing to the investment in hydropower projects as well as an increase in the supply of electricity. Moreover, investment in the Karot hydropower project also increases the growth of the interlinked sectors such as manufacturing sector, transport, and communication, agriculture and services sector respectively. This study also observes that the real prices of factor input also increase which would have a direct impact on wellbeing of the people.

Abstract Garbage in the Aroma Karsa Novel by Dewi Lestari: Literature Ecology Review. Literary texts are not autonomous. The world in a literary work is related to the world outside the literary text. Literary ecology tries to look at a literary work from an environmental standpoint. Aroma Karsa is a novel written by Dewi Lestari. It contained the adventures of Jati Wesi as the central figure who tried to solve various kinds of conflicts about her identity, which related to genetic or environmental problems from beginning to the end. This research is qualitative research using an ecocritical approach. This study reveals how environmental problems, especially waste, are depicted in the novel. The results revealed that waste causes many problems such as high waste production that exceeds the capacity of the final landfill, derelict children, the smell of uncontrolled garbage, the circulation of hard drinks and illegal drugs, to unfair competition between lenders that led to murder. These issues are packaged with well written so they can be the foundation of forming a meaningful and robust novel. It is making Aroma Karsa an ecological novel which is an alternative reading to remind people that waste is a severe problem. Key words: novels, ecocriticism, environment, garbage Abstrak Sampah dalam Novel Aroma Karsa karya Dewi Lestari: Tinjauan Ekologi Sastra. Kata-kata kunci: novel, ekokritik, lingkungan, sampah

Shuaiba and Rafidhiya are adjacent domes and these domes belong to the same Field but the domes separated by saddle may related to Basra – Zubair basement fault. The domes have different petrophysical properties of Mishrif Formation; consequently, influenced in water and oil saturation. Therefore, the study tries to understand the structural and petrophysical position of Mishrif Formation of the domes. The structural analysis included geometric and genetic analysis, whereas petrophysical analysis used open hole logs interpretation to determine the petrophysical characteristics (especially the distribution of porosity, permeability, and water saturation. It was concluded that may a variation in porosity and permeability of Mishrif Formation for Shuaiba and Rafidhiya domes because each dome was formed by a different folding mechanism effected on the petrophysical properties. The structural geology analysis detects that may be Shuaiba dome formed by bending fold mechanism (vertical force of salt structure), while Rafidhiya dome by buckling fold mechanism (parallel force of collision of Arabian and Eurasian plate). These mechanisms may directly be affected in permeability distribution, and consequently on oil and water saturation of Mishrif Formation. Thus, Shuaiba Dome has thinning in hinge area and extensional force leads to create fractures and karst phenomena, and as a result, high permeability in upper Mishrif. On the contrary, Rafidhiya Dome has a thickening feature and there is no indication of karst phenomena and low permeability. Therefore, the Mishrif of Shuaiba dome permeable and oil-saturated, while, it flooded with water in Rafidhiya Dome. The disconnection in reservoir pressure confirmed by difference in initial reservoir pressure of Mishrif Formation of Shuaiba Dome and recent reservoir pressure of Mishrif Formation of Rafidhiya Dome

Abstract. Kidang Cave is a habitation of prehistoric people, which has been studied by the Yogyakarta Archaeological Centre since 2005 and still continues until now. A survey over the surface of the karst region of Blora reveals that Kidang Cave is the only habitable cave based on the morphology of the land, circulation of sunlight, slant, humidity, and surface finds. Thisarticle tries to explore and unveil traces of the site location that serves as a chronological bridge of continuity between the Pleistocene and the Holocene cultures, which is still obscure. In addition, it is interesting to note that further study is needed pertaining to the location of the cave, which is surrounded by Pleistocene sites that during the last research in 2013 has shed some light on that matter. The methods employed here are excavation at Kidang Cave and analyses on archaeological finds, stratigraphy, and the environment. Based on results of seven times of researches, it can be concluded that Kidang Cave had been intensively inhabited by prehistoric people and contains wide-ranging finds, which include artifacts, features, and ecofacts, as well as skeletons of Homo sapiens.

Abstract:
In the hardwared learning environments prepared during the process of training the teachers who have established the base of the high quality and appropriate for the era necessities of human capacity. The attitudes of teaching staffs to the teacher candidates can provide the formation of the desired characteristics of the teacher. To Davies (1999) in order to form the understanding of a democratic life, it has been connected to being democratic of the educational system and environments. It is obvious that the physical, social, phychological and technical characteristics of learning environment have a great role to form the desired behaviors. The aim of the contemporary teacher training is to educate the well hardwared and gained democratic attitudes and behaviors teacher candidates who think freely, take the responsibilities of learning, take participative part in learning environments, can criticize and be open to be criticized, can make the reason ' result relationship among the things they learned, can interrogate the things they learned, can use the knowledge creatively, can reflect the things they learned and can solve the problems by the things they learned. And also the teaching staff in Educational Faculty whose especially work is to train teachers first should have the same characteristics to be given to the teacher candidates (Şen and Erişen, 2002). From this point of view, in the survey, we have tried to determine the perceptions of the teacher candidates about the democratic attitudes of the teaching staffs. The aim of this research is from the point of various changes to determine if they have been differentiated or not by defining the democratic attitudes of the teaching staff gained during the teacher education in the learning environments. The research method is, by using survey method to determine the perceptions of the teacher candidates about the democratic attitudes of the teaching staffs (city of Kars case). The survey method is the study that tries to describe and to explain what the events, the objects, the existances, the institutions, the groups and the different fields are it has been aimed at giving an answer to the question" What are these?". The study group of the survey is consisted of the teacher students registered in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th classes, 1856 of the teacher students in the department of Primary school teaching, Social science teaching, Turkish teaching, Preschool teaching and Science teaching of the Educational Faculty of Kafkas University. In data collection the questionnair form for the perceptions of the teacher candidates about the democratic attitudes and behaviors of the teaching staffs prepared by Duman and Koç, has been used. The questionnair prepared in likert attitude has been consisted of two sections. In the first section there are demographic features about the teacher candidates and teaching staffs, and in the second section, there are expressions about the democratic attitudes and the behaviors at what level the teaching staffs have shown. In the analysis of the data taken from the measure instrument by doing dataentry in the SPSS 18.00 statistical analyzing program, in order to determine the searching problem some analysis have been made according to the features of the variabilities.

Abstract:
Women's life without discrimination or violence is the freedom and entitlement of women's rights. The objective of the study is to achieve the idea. Dealing with it, the researcher applies feminism approach proposed by Damewood's theory of gender discrimination. Gender discrimination refers to the practice of granting or denying rights or privilege to a person based on his/her gender that is longstanding and acceptable to both genders. The novel `Snow` and `A Thousand Splendid Suns` focus on gender discrimination, violence, oppression, and struggle to fight against them. The researcher explores how gender discrimination, patriarchy culture and most of violence and oppression happened in family and country. The phenomenon of violence is not only a discrimination done by husbands who do gender discrimination in family, but also a fight done by a wife to fight against them, it depends on its case. In `Snow`, the women character faced many problems related to their headscarves. They are discriminated by their government and parents. Kadife is depicted as a brave woman. She tries to defend women‟s right in Kars to keep on using their headscarves. While in A `Thousand Splendid Suns`, the limitation of women`s activity happened. Women are banned to get education and they should stay at home. Mariam and Laila get oppression and violence by their husband. Their struggle is shown in the murder of their husband, Rasheed. The unstable practice of gender discrimination was continuously preserved by the culture, not religion. It was like a patriarchal culture that is one of clear examples of the women phenomena in the world and it can be in the form of prohibition and limitation of the role of women in the public area.

Abstract:
Terase so vrezane v pobočje opuščene anticedentne doline. The Montello hill is, probably, the most typical morphounit between the karsts developed in conglomerate rocks. It may be considered the classical karst of the conglomerates comparable with the Classical Karst of limestones: the Carso of Trieste. The Montello hill consists in an elliptical plan figure, elongated for about13 km in a WSW-ENE direction and a width of about 5 km. The rock unit involved is the “Conglomerato del Montello” of late Miocene age (Messinian), mostly composed by carbonate pebbles bound by a calcitic cement, which is 2000 m thick. The Montello is shaped by a complex system of fluvial planation and incision forms in which are distinguishable a main plateau and a stairs of seven planation rock cut terraces. The terraces are cut in the slope of a dead antecedent valley. On the fluvial planation forms, dolines, mostly of the draw down type but also of the point recharge type, have evolved. In total more than 2000 dolines are present. In the seven rock cut terraces the dolines show different development and dimensions according with the ages of the surfaces. In the first morphogenesis of these dolines and of the caves the control of the plan structures as the bedding surfaces and the fractures seems to have been feeble; on the contrary the porosity of the conglomerate has been a determinant factors for the developmente of the karst drainage.

Abstract:
The issue of leadership becomes the study that never ends in every period. The leader is not only limited to being able to lead an organization, but the expected leader is a leader who is able to innovate and transform in finding solutions and developing a better organization. If quoting McGregor Burns' opinion, transformational leadership is a process in which leaders and followers together increase and develop their morality and motivation. In addition, a very brief but concise function that has been stated by the father of our education, Ki Hajar Dewantara, that a good leader must carry out functions, namely: "Ing Ngarso Sung Tulodo" (meaning in front of giving the role model); "Ing Madyo Mangun Karso" (meaning in the middle of creating work opportunities); "Tut Wuri Handayani" (meaning from behind gives encouragement and direction). This study is part of a theoretical concept that tries to examine the transformational leadership of higher education and the scope of mutually beneficial international networks.

The problem under study is related to the contrast between real and mythical nairis, which is of key importance in the novel. The methodological principles of Jung’s hermeneutics and the historical-comparative method, as well as the latest cuneiform and historiographic studies, were used as a research method. It is noted that the phrase “The land of Nairi” was used in the novel as a synonym for the motherland-cradle and got the value of an archetypal pattern. The artistic story of the fall of Kars is presented by the author-narrator, who is looking for substantiations of the material and real existence of the historical land of Nairi and tries to find them in the reality he describes։ the absence of substantiations causes a disjuncture between reality and the past. The study is based on the philosophical concept of the unity and the clash of contrasts, the vital engine of which is the author’s ego and his attitude to the events described.
