For over 2000 years, feudal dynasties throughout China have referred to southerners as the “Nanman” (means Southern Barbarian). However, the specific situation of the treatment of Nanman titles by various dynasties has not been explored. In addition, the Nanman never stopped paying tribute to the Central Dynasty. No one is involved in whether tribute can earn the respect that the dynasty deserves. Nowadays, big data technology can easily handle massive amounts of literature, and it is entirely possible to analyze the above issues from "official histories" (the 25 historical books) using the method of word frequency research. The words frequency shows that since the unification of Lingnan by Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the feudal dynasties presented a paradox to Lingnan: The products in Lingnan were coveted, and local customs were despised. "Tribute" was used to cover up the predatory nature of Kings, and "Nanman" was used to establish political, national and cultural rank. The number of "tribute" and the meaning of "Nanman" formed the "magic mirror" development relationship in the big tree of feudal autocracy until the end of the Qing Dynasty. But on the one hand, the positive factors of "tribute" were absorbed and used by the western powers to establish their own alliances. On the other hand, they also mislead the public opinion and create trouble. Although "Nanman" has been eradicated politically, the regional discrimination and cultural misreading it contains have not been eradicated and often occurs. "Tribute" ranges from Kyushu to overseas to international relations. The connotation of "Nanman" from the orientation, nation and culture, the meaning of these two words has been spontaneously changing. It is timely to clarify their relationship and help make China revive.

AbstractTribute sources have played a significant role in reconstructions of the Triple Alliance's history and geography at the time just before the Spanish Conquest. The Tenochcan tradition has been the main source for these reconstructions. The critical historical analysis of the internal relationship of an alternative tradition, that of Tetzcoco, sheds new light on the Tenochcan tradition and on the tribute distributional ratio of 2:2:1, i.e., of the Triple Alliance tribute to Tenochtitlan, to Tetzcoco, and to Tlacopan. I conclude that this distribution only applied to a minor geographical area in the Triple Alliance conquests. This ratio shows only that Tetzcoco and Tenochtitlan had a major participation in the conquest of part of the northeastern area of central Mexico.

The industrial integration function of rural tourism plays an important role in promoting
rural revitalization. Taking Wujiatai Village, Enshi Prefecture, Hubei Province as an example, using
AHP and FCE, establishes the evaluation index system of Tea-Tourism Integration effect of
Wujiatai Village, explores the main factors affecting the Tea-Tourism Integration in Wujiatai Village,
and evaluates its level of development. The research shows that: (1) The overall membership of the
Tea-Tourism Integration Effect of Wujiatai Village was 0.3222, which is a "Average" level. (2)
Tourism Output Value and Tribute Tea Culture Inheritance are in the top two, reflecting that the
development of local tourism and Tribute Tea Culture Inheritance of Wujiatai Village are the key
factors and important indexes that affect the Tea-Tourism Integration Effect of Wujiatai Village,
which needs for continuous maintenance and improvement. (3) Tribute Tea Sales, Scientific and
Technological Innovation Intensity, Construction of Talent Team and Completeness Degree of
Industrial Chain are the important factors restricting the further high-quality development of the

Abstract This paper reviews some aspects of the life and work of Professor Johann Friedrich Horner, on the occasion of the 190th anniversary of his birthday and 152 years after the publication of "Über eine Form von Ptosis". It also shows the importance of the historical description of ptosis, myosis and anhidrosis associating those symptoms with sympathetic cervical damage. He pharmacologically confirmed the impairment of sympathetic innervation to the eye and preserved parasympathetic function.

В 1665 г. были приняты Московские русско-украинские статьи, вводившие налоги в царскую казну на содержание русских гарнизонов в украинских городах. В документе отдельно не оговаривалось, должны ли взиматься налоги с «маетностей», принадлежавших украинскому духовенству. Хотя и русская практика в этом вопросе, и польская, которую в значительной степени копировала налоговая система Гетманщины, предполагала взимание налогов с земель духовенства, изучение этого вопроса показывает, что, по крайней мере, до 1665 г. в Войске Запорожском владения монастырей и священников не облагались налогами. Поскольку налоговая реформа 1665–1666 гг. предполагала не распространение налоговой системы Русского государства на Левобережную Украину, а, по большей части, перенаправление поступлений от уже взимавшихся налогов из войскового скарба в царскую казну, то «маетности» украинского духовенства не были обложены налогами. Однако в ходе исследования удалось выявить 2 попытки царской власти обложить земли, пожалованные монастырям впервые, налогами в небольшом объеме. Представляется, что это исключение, которое только подтверждает правило — в основном, «маетности» духовенства в рассматриваемый период были освобождены от налогов. In 1665, the Moscow Russian-Ukrainian Articles were adopted, introducing taxes into the tzar’s treasury to maintain Russian garrisons in Ukrainian cities. The document did not separately stipulate whether tributes should be levied on estates belonging to the Ukrainian clergy. Although the Russian practice concerning this matter as well as the Polish practice that was largely copied by the tribute system of the Hetmanate, assumed levying tributes from the lands of the clergy, the study of this issue shows that the possessions of monasteries and priests were not subject to taxes in the Zaporozhian Host at least until 1665. The tax reform in 1665–1666 did not assume the spread of the tax system of the Russian state onto the Left Bank Ukraine, but mainly the redirection of revenues from taxes already collected from military possessions to the tzar’s treasury. During the study, it was possible to identify two attempts by the tzarist authorities to impose small taxes on the lands granted to monasteries for the first time.

This development has made marketers change their marketing strategies to internet marketing, one of which is Sthala, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Ubud Bali by Marriott International which wants the products marketed to cover the global market, the objective in this study is of course to measure the role of Instagram in carrying out promotions and sales so that the level of effectiveness of the advertisements that are run must be measured. The researcher was interested to analyse the effectiveness of hotel advertisements through the Instagram platform in selling products Using variables from EPIC (empathy, persuasion, impact, and communication) the level of advertising effectiveness can be determined. The sampling technique used for this study was purposive sampling, consisting of Instagram followers of this hotels, with total 100 respondents were collected as samples. This study uses the EPIC model as a method for calculating effectiveness which consists of four dimensions, namely empathy, persuasion, impact, and communication. The results of research and examination of Sthala, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Ubud Bali by Marriott Internasional’s Instagram is considered very effective for the empathy dimension, the persua-sion dimension, the impact dimension, and the communication dimension. Overall, these findings conclude that advertising Sthala, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Ubud Bali by Marriott International via Instagram is very effective. The effectiveness of hotel room sales growth was also tested which shows positive growth results but due to Covid-19, sales growth has decreased. This is indicated by data on room sales from 2018 to 2019 it rose significantly and in 2020 it dropped dramatically and experienced another increase in 2021 to 2022.

The article deals with some aspects of Peribsen’s policy. In author’s opinion this pharaoh of the Second dynasty possibly led military campaigns in Lower Egypt. This hypothesis can be maintained by the data of seal impressions, stone vessels and the steles from the Early Dynastic period. The author shows that Peribsen’s election of Seth as the god of royal power and replacement of traditional patron of Egyptian rulers Horus by him could be connected with disintegration of Egypt into two parts. The author shows that the toponyms %Tt and &A-mHw in Peribsen’s monuments must be connected with Lower Egypt. The fact that place-names are connected with the tribute from Delta to Peribsen can prove that this ruler tried to conquer Lower Egypt. In the present study the comparative historical research is used.

The article for the first time ever explores the recent non-fiction and poetry by the contemporary Australian writer Krissy Kneen, who has Slovenian roots through her maternal grandmother. Kneen’s writing, a literary tribute to her late grandmother Dragitca (Dragica Marušič), shows a desire to come to terms with her partly ‘Slovenian’ gut microbiome and DNA, as she herself claims. They, in her view, along with the other elements in the process of identity formation, interestingly importantly help to constitute an ethnic identity and, for that matter, any personal identity. This makes her writing very original within the extant diasporic literary production.

In the late 1960s, some scholars started using the constituent elements of the mandala system, the traditional interstate relations model in Southeast Asia, to explore the official relationship between China and Southeast Asian Kingdoms and gradually formed three interpretation paths. The first is to use the mandala in the geopolitical sense to locate bilateral political relations. The second is about how the political culture with the universal monarch as the core enables Southeast Asia monarchs to join the tribute system. The third focuses on the different understanding of tribute in Southeast Asian countries. They supplement or revise the traditional view that the tributary relationship between ancient China and Southeast Asian Kingdoms was political. However, these three interpretation paths have their limitations. The review shows that scholars ignore the universal kingship of Southeast Asian Kingdoms’ discourse system to China. The unilateral policy design and understanding could not convincingly interpret the unique political relationship formed by bilateral interaction. Therefore, the universal kingship claimed by the Chinese emperors and Southeast Asian Kingdoms monarchs must be examined. It should study how the centers of the mandala system smoothly transited between claiming universal kingship and pursuing equality in real politics. It also explores what diplomatic strategies could maintain the subjectivity of the monarchs of Chinese dynasties and Southeast Asian Kingdoms.

The article deals with the application of decision support systems in the aviation industry. A number of problems that led to significant errors in the preparation of medium and long-term forecasts, which the management faces, are presented. The article shows that the introduction of management decision support systems is not only a tribute to digitalization, but also an urgent need, while taking into account a large amount of data does not in itself guarantee an improvement in the quality of management decisions. Recommendations are given to take into account the specifics of the aviation industry when drawing up requirements for decision support systems.

A study of Josipovici’s novel Migrations (1977) shows how it manages to explore the many dimensions of the condition of migrancy, even though held here within the bounds of a novel that is tightly packed but opens into a whole world.

Most of them are offered by the modern mass culture industry. Abstract The Greek γραµµατικός combined several functions: as editor and expounder of texts, linguist, librarian, lecturer, courtier and sometimes as ambassador for his monarch or city. In due course Latin-speaking grammatici applied philological skills developed at Alexandria to their own literature, and served as librarians in the great libraries of the imperial period. The present paper studies some Greek γραµµατικοί active in Rome, particularly Alexander of Cotiaeon, appointed by Antoninus Pius as tutor to the princes Marcus and Lucius, and also the teacher of Aelius Aristides. As Aristides’ tribute to him shows, Alexander was not only a notable critic and influential teacher, but acted as a benefactor (εὐεργέτης) of his native city, in this respect comparable to the sophists who were his contemporaries.

Disability is often absent in both the content and the production levels of Western film and television media, and other popular cultural productions. They rarely include disability except as plot devices that invoke ableist tropes such as: tragedy, pity, or a temporary challenge for non-disabled characters to overcome, or as lessons for the main character to learn from, and many more. In the Ruderman white paper on Employment of Actors with Disabilities in Television, Woodburn and Kopic found that 95% of disabled characters in the top ten US television shows were played by non-disabled actors (2016). Yet, these marked absences of disability from popular media has not been reflected in the numerous fan creations produced by fan communities in tribute to their favourite fandom.

This paper reconsiders the anteriority of Robert Torrens’s theory of natural wage to that of David Ricardo. Ricardo was influenced by Torrens’s thinking when writing the chapter on “Wages” of the Principles. For many historians of economic thought, this influence is limited to Torrens’s focus on the socio-cultural aspect of necessity goods, which determine the natural price of labor. While this interpretation is consistent with that of Ricardo, we argue that the anteriority of Torrens to Ricardo more generally focuses on the method used by the latter to justify the indexation of money wages on the money price of subsistence goods. Finally, this paper shows that the tribute paid to Torrens by Ricardo paradoxically explains posterity’s misunderstanding of his theory.

The study of cellular and molecular patterns of osteoarthritis (OA) shows that, since the key sign of the disease is progressive cartilage loss, today it is considered as a spectrum of conditions affecting all joint tissues. The disease is based on special tissue mechanisms: some of them are unique to a single tissue, and some are common to several tissues and joints. Recent studies allowed to identify individual subtypes of OA, depending on the development of pathological changes in certain tissue: bone tissue, articular cartilage, inflammation or changes in the synovial membrane. Therefore, chondroprotection requires a holistic approach, stratification of patient groups and achievement of their respective final goals. Given the past therapeutic experience (including unsuccessful), it is necessary to develop medicinal products using modern technologies and the latest knowledge. The main aim of chondroprotection is to provide the suitable treatment to the appropriate patient at the right time. Despite the abundance of new technologies and pharmacological developments, European experts still recommend a combination of chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine as the treatment of choice at the initial stage of OA. In contemporary popular music, covering or adapting previous songs signals a tribute or reworking of popular hits, which implies acknowledgement of the original musicians. This connection can be interpreted as a form of musical impact among artists. A network graph with more than 106k artists and 855k cover versions extracted from the web site SecondHandSongs was created. The objective is to explore the shape of this network, identify the most relevant artists according to different impact measurements and to visualize connections between music genres. This analysis is done from a longitudinal perspective with the aim of understanding how cover versions can inform us about the history of the contemporary popular music. Results show that the number of covers by artist is skewed distributed, diminishing gradually since the 1950s. Different network metrics have allowed to identify the most covered (weighted indegree), the most influential (PageRank) and the most crossover artists (weighted betweenness centrality). The network graph also shows that genre affinity is the main criterion for covering songs between artists, language being the second. Remakes from other genres reflect that Jazz and Pop/Rock are the most influential because they emerge stronger and form the core of their respective sub-networks. Cover songs describe two cycles. In a first phase from 1900s to 1950s, dominated by Jazz and Vocal artists, the covers are more frequent and associated with the notion of reworking (e.g. jazz standards); in a second stage, since the 1950s, when the Pop/Rock emerges, cover songs are less common and seen as tribute.

In this article, we show how new (social) media dynamics condition the way remembering and mourning play out online. We analyse commenting with regard to the Finnish dairy-product company Valio’s advertisement-turned-tribute to rock idol Lemmy Kilmister, who had passed away some days earlier. Our study shows that ambiguous and fluid power relations in online spaces can sustain facile and simplified corporate messages. We offer an example of how the context of representation shifts in online exchanges and highlight how local repertoires of meaning making are overpowered by universal myths. This offers a new perspective to metal music studies. More generally, our study elucidates contextual shifts as one of the ways in which contemporary capitalism operates as consumers such as metal music fans are engaged in co-production of corporate brand meanings.

Abstract This essay challenges the current assessment that Thomas Morley's collection, The Triumphes of Oriana, was an uncomplicated musical tribute to Queen Elizabeth I, who was represented allegorically by Oriana, heroine of the romance Amadis de Gaule. It takes into account both the political context surrounding the Essex Revolt, the Elizabethan succession question, and the Catholic issue and the ideas reflected in the poetry that was set to music, as well as some of the music itself. It can be shown that both Morley and his mentor William Byrd were strongly linked to the Sidney/Essex complex of ideals that had a special appeal to Catholics who hoped for a more tolerant regime and who looked to Essex and a Jamesian succession as possible vehicles of salvation. Demonstrating the unsuitability of the Oriana characterization for Elizabeth, I propose a different allegorical identity not only for “Oriana” (James's wife Anna) but also for the character “Diana” (Essex's sister Penelope Rich), who appears in key works by Byrd and in all the Oriana madrigals as well. Certain songs by Byrd promoted the ideas of Sidney and his circle as well as Essex's image as the “heir to Sir Philip Sidney.” Morley's project for the Triumphes began originally, evidence shows, as a musical offering pleasing to the Essex camp and supportive of James's succession. A marked shift in political circumstances between 1600 and 1601 made it incumbent upon Morley and his collaborators to pay tribute to Elizabeth instead, but not all traces of the original intent were effaced. The ambivalence in the meaning of the Oriana and Diana allegories continued into the post-Elizabethan era.

This article shows an approach to the three-dimensional modelling of a sugarcane mill and its associated steam engine, designed by the Robey and Co. engineering company in 1869. In order to obtain the 3D CAD model of said invention, CATIA V5 R20 software has been employed. Various sources of starting material, from the basis of this research and found in the process of searching for relevant information, provide information on the main elements, operating conditions, and mechanism of the machine. Thanks to the three-dimensional geometric modelling carried out, it has been possible to explain, in detail, both its operation and the final assembly of the invention through the assemblies of its different subsets, thereby obtaining a virtual recreation that shows its operation. Likewise, a study has been carried out, from a mechanical engineering viewpoint, of the gear train that transmitted the movement, in order to ascertain the compression force exerted on the sugar cane. This research, related to industrial archaeology, therefore, enables the reader to understand a machine that constituted a milestone in the sugarcane industry, while paying tribute to the English engineer, Robert Robey.

The year 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of Herbert I. Schiller’s The Mind Managers that carried out a critical political economy analysis of the myths that sustained industrial capitalism and the role played by the media and cultural industries in their dissemination. As a tribute, this paper highlights the value of Schiller’s work, tracing the historical origins of, and updating, what he considered to be the most important myth in this groundbreaking book: individualism and personal choice. The research shows that this myth has strengthened and undergone important changes in the technologically-centered neoliberal context of today’s cognitive capitalism, where its function is to hide and idealize the present-day structural conditions. The prevalence and characteristics of this myth are analyzed through the paradigmatic example of dating apps. Both the possibilities and limitations provided by media technologies are considered in the context of power relations.

This paper extends and illustrates a probabilistic interpretation of the fractional derivative operator proposed by Pr. José Tenreiro Machado. While his interpretation concerned the probability of finding samples of the derivate signal in the expression of the fractional derivative, the present paper proposes interpretations for other fractional models and more generally fractional behaviours (without using a model). It also proposes probabilistic interpretations in terms of time constants and time delay distributions. It shows that these probabilistic interpretations in terms of time delay distributions can be connected to the physical behaviour of real systems governed by adsorption or diffusion phenomena.

The article presents the phenomenon of sacred prostitution which was characteristic of many ancient cultures and religions throughout the world. It shows a few of the most important issues connected with the sacred prostitution (also called religious or ritual): its origins (the cult of deities of love and fertility, typical of the pre-Christian cultures); its forms (one-time prostitution as an act of sacrificing one’s virginity or one-time sacrifice of a woman who was no longer a virgin, and constant prostitution practiced by priestesses or temple prostitutes); its main purposes (unification with deity, making a tribute to deity, pledge of the fertility of men, earth and animals by re-enactment of archetypical act of hieros gamos, the divine marriage). The article also analyses the religious anatomy of the phenomenon, basing on the thesis of Mircea Eliade; shows examples of sacred prostitution, taken mainly from The Golden Bough,the canonic work of Sir James George Frazer, and F.S. Pierre Dufour’s History of Prostitution; discusses the taboo of women’s blood on the basis of Jean-Paul Roux’s works; mentions the historical change in the meaning of the word “virgin” applying to Edward Whitmont’s statements; brings up controversies over the judgment of sacred prostitution as a historical phenomenon, referring to Edward Whitmont’s and Georg Baudler’s standpoints.

In this essay, the reminiscences of Margaret Fuller, feminist activist and member of the American Transcendentalist movement, from her journey to the Great Lakes region, entitled Summer on the Lakes (1844), are considered in the light of EcoGothic considerations. The essay shows how Fuller’s journey disillusioned her about progress and led to abandoning the serene vision of nature and landscapes reflected in the works of Transcendentalists. The destruction of nature and landscape verging on an ecological catastrophe is presented by Fuller in the perspective of the Gothic, as a price for the technological development driven by the capitalist economy. The Gothic character of Summer on the Lakes derives from the mental condition of the writer and a pessimistic vision arising from the debunking of the myth of America as a virgin land. Fuller’s work constitutes an EcoGothic tribute to the indigenous inhabitants of America—but also a Gothic live burial of the Native Americans who do still live in the regions she visits—as well as to Mariana and Frederica, unusual and gothicized women excluded from society. By bringing together Fuller’s observations about nature, indigenous peoples and marginalized women, the essay shows how Fuller’s text prophetically announces the beginning of the end of the American environment.

Background: Our oceans remain one of the last untapped source of renewable energy. The predictability and reliability of ocean energy technologies could con- tribute significantly to the global energy transition. By 2022, ocean energy, and in particular wave and tidal energy have reached a pre-commercial phase in their development. Methods: This study investigates the potential progression of the wave and tidal energy sector in the next three decades based on the offshore wind sector in the past three decades. Two different models were developed from the yearly capacity increase of offshore wind in Europe and applied to the wave and tidal energy sector. Results: According to both models, the 40 GW 2050 target for ocean energy set by the European Commission in 2020 could be reached if European coastal countries adopt supportive policies for both technologies immediately. A sensitivity analysis shows further that a small delay right now will have tremendous negative impacts to fulfill the EU goals and the contribution of ocean energy to the energy transition. Conclusions: In conclusion, the ocean energy sector shows a strong growth potential and is capable of supporting the European and global climate targets substantially by 2050. Learnings from the offshore wind sector can help scope and support the growth of ocean energy technologies.

This article focuses on the most ambitious integration initiatives, negotiations on which in recent years have been the main topic of meetings of heads of state at the highest level and at meetings of intergovernmental organizations. First of all, there are competing trade agreements – RCEP and TPP, as well as global geopolitical projects – the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative, the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue created under the auspices of the United States and the Great Eurasian partnership promoted by the Russian Federation. The analysis shows that, in fact, China has taken over the initiative to form a new world order. Currently, Chinese strategic projects are the most ambitious, consistent and attractive in comparison with the proposals of other leading powers. We have to admit that the formats of cooperation on the basis of ASEAN may become a political anachronism in the near future, to which everyone will pay tribute, but key decisions will be made at other venues.

Data collection methods were through observation, interviews, and documentation, and the technique of validity the data through triangulation techniques. The location of this research is in Medani, Cluwak, Pati. This research was carried out from March to August 2021. Several processions are carried out in Sedekah Bumi Tradition (kabumi), namely Manganan, Kondangan, Mbangun tumbal, art and closings. The results of this study shows that the symbols that exist in Sedekah Bumi tradition as a tribute to the almighty. The symbolic meanings in Sedekah Bumi is interpreting human nature and teach virtue. The relevance of Sedekah Bumi tradition in Buddhism is existence of moral values as contained in the Buddhist’ Pancasila, harmony and love.

The correlation between the Cretaceous bauxites of Austria and Hungary was first highlighted by the pioneering work of Andrea Mindszenty in the 1980s. The physical distance today between these bauxite occurrences, located in the Northern Calcareous Alps and the Transdanubian Central Range, is on the order of hundred of kilometers. However, a semi-quantitative palinspastic reconstruction of their relative positions at the time of bauxite deposition during the Late Cretaceous (Turonian to early Santonian) shows their much closer proximity. Still, the important differences between these Upper Cretaceous bauxites are due to their different paleogeographic settings during their deposition on a subaerially exposed Eo-Alpine nappe substratum. Some other differences, such as porosity, are attributed to the subsequent tectonic overprint in the Alpine edifice. The Austrian and Hungarian bauxites not only record important information about of the syn-depositional geologic landscape but also provide clues about the pre- and post-depositional regional tectonic context of the areas where they developed. The typical setting for many of the Cretaceous bauxites in the broader Alpine region was uplift and karstification associated with the formation of various flexural basin systems. Therefore bauxites, in general, may contain important geologic information about the regional geodynamic processes, as it was pointed by Andrea Mindszenty, in a pioneering manner, already in the early 1990s.

Purpose. The attempt to create a definition of the shock tourism as a type of dark tourism. The phenomenon of spontaneous travels to sites of disasters was first described from the anthropological perspective by Chris Rojek in 1993. He used the term black spots, referring to places that became travel destinations in reaction to current media coverage (spotlights). In Polish research we hitherto lack the translation of this term, as well as explicit descriptions of travels which are the immediate result of current media coverage. The proposed definition of shock tourism will be presented not only as a kind of „sensation tourism”. The visitors, through their presence, not only influence the shape of memory sites but they also take part in creating the memory of tragic events. The example of New York’s Ground Zero shows us how much, over the course of recent years, not only the physical space of the site, but also its symbolic dimensions have changed. The narration of 11th September National Museum, the 9/11 Memorial Site and the work of non-profit 9/11 Tribute Center contribute to changing the perception of „shock sites” from lieux de l’imagination to lieux de mémoire. Method. Fieldwork, participant observation (an analysis of narratives of 9/11 National Museum and Memory Site; observation of tourists’ and tour guides behaviour). Findings. An analysis of narratives of 9/11 National Museum and Memori Site, as well as the activity of 9/11 Tribute Center became a starting point to further considerations on the role of tourists in creating postmodern lieux de mémoire. Research and conclusions limitations. Limited time of fieldwork (10 days). Originality. The paper concerns postmodern phenomenon of the evolution od post-disaster sites into the memorylands, according to Sharon Macdonald’s concept. The framework of shock tourism opens new horizons and research perspectives of this process. Type of paper. Theoretical paper based on case study of 9/11.

A set of rules about gratification is a novelty within society and is perceived to collide with the cultural of giving in the Islamic society in Indonesia. This study is aimed to explore the meaning of gratification from the positive perspective of law in Indonesia, and the boundaries of gratification, which is interdicted by the laws. This study used the nor- mative method which analyzes the positive law in Indonesia regulating the gratification. The result of this study shows that gratification in the positive law perspective has a wide meaning including each tribute for civil employee or governance. According to Indonesia laws, gratification could be either positive or negative. Gratification which is allowed by the laws is a gift with a pure tension of the giver to the civil employee or governance without expecting to achieve anything. In contrary, grati- fication which is not allowed by the laws is a gift for the civil employee or governance because of the position in that employment and unrelated with the duty or order.

AbstractThis article presents an analysis of the tlacuiloque (scribes) who participated in the production of the Matrícula de Tributos and the Codex Mendoza. I show the relevance of palaeographic analysis for documents in which the writing system is logosyllabic or hieroglyphic and most of the information is iconographic. The Matrícula de Tributos is a pre-Columbian document that recorded the tribute paid to the Mexica empire by conquered towns. It was probably painted during the last decade of Moctezuma's II rulership, although some of its pages may have been produced earlier. Its production shows the work of at least six scribes. Its content was copied by a single artist around 1542 as the second part of the Codex Mendoza, a document created to be sent to the Spanish emperor. I provide evidence of the work of the six scribes in the pages preserved of the Matrícula. I also show that the scribe responsible for folios 6r–11v of the Matrícula painted the entire Codex Mendoza at least 20 years later. I demonstrate these interpretations through comparative analysis of some elements of the iconography and logosyllabic writing in the Matrícula and the Codex Mendoza.

Culture is a lifestyle that grows and is owned by a group of individuals, then passed on to future generations. Each region in Indonesia has its own unique culture that is not shared by other regions. Local culture has an important role in shaping the identity of the Indonesian people. One aspect that needs to be considered and instilled is the customs in the wedding ceremony. Fangowai and fame'e afo are very significant elements in Nias traditional wedding ceremonies, the two of which cannot be separated from one another. Fangowai reflects respect for invited guests (fasumangeta) and shows high manners. The purpose of this research is to understand the meaning of fangowai and fame'e afo in the traditional Nias wedding tradition in Gunungsitoli City, as well as learn lessons that can be applied in everyday life. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the meaning of fangowai and fame'e afo at the traditional Nias wedding in Gunungsitoli City are as the main and first tribute at the wedding, as sia'a böwö (eldest custom), as Nias traditional cultural heritage

Abstract This paper focuses on a scientific analysis of the genesis and historical development of the good faith principle as a doctrinal interpretation of the Latvian regulations’ governing issues when closing a payment account against a consumer’s will. Starting from the origin of bona fides in archaic Roman law and its rediscovery by Justinian’s Corpus Juris Civilis, passing through its application in the western medieval ius commune and its continental renaissance in the early twentieth century, noting its limited place in the Code of Civil Laws of the Baltic Provinces and paying tribute to its triumph in Latvian Civil Law, this paper focuses on the evolution of attitudes towards this principle in modern legal science and case law. This comparative historical research shows that a clear definition of good faith could be found through a system-historical interpretation of the good faith rule. This should help identify the target essence of subjective rights and duties under each legal rule governing specific legal relationships. Therefore, when de-banking, in view of good faith, the target essence of a bank’s right to withdraw from an account contract is to save justice by respecting the justified consumer’s interest in retaining payment services.

There is a commonplace in the historical scholarship that nomadic peoples, adopting a settled way of life, borrow from the agrarian sedentary population their methods of economy managing and state administration. Chinese historical tradition tells that the nomadic periphery fell under Chinese influence and adopted from the Han people both their political and economic institutions. However, sources let us know that the situation is not so simple. There are periods of reverse influence of the nomadic world on agrarian China. In the pre-Mongolian period, the Chinese empire was at the same time at the peak of its development, stood on the threshold of the industrial revolution, but was also heavily dependent on its neighbors, being forced to pay tribute to them. Practices of regular close interaction led to diffusion, that is, the mutual borrowing of various management methods. Using the example of the Chinese Song Empire and its neighbors of the Western Xia and Liao empires, the article shows that borrowings did not always go exclusively from the Han to nomads, but, on the contrary, there was a mutual penetration of both economic and political institutions in the sphere of finance and taxation.

After entering the 21st century, the scale and technology of China’s film industry have developed rapidly. In the meantime, Chinese comedy films as an important part of China’s film industry have also received more and more attention. The Chinese comedy film “Hi, Mom” released in 2021 has won numerous awards and reputations for its humorous style and tribute to maternal love. This study takes “Hi, Mom” as a typical case to deeply investigate how the film constructs the image of the mother from multiple dimensions. In addition, under the guidance of Multimodal Discourse Analysis (MDA) theory, this study focuses on five main aspects: plot design, facial expressions, background music, iconic symbols and clothing style of the mother in the film for in-depth analysis and discussion. The main findings of this study provided several new perspectives and findings for other case studies on “Hi, Mom”, and further provided more references for other studies on the theme of “mother image”. The discussion of this study shows the multi-dimensional construction of specific character images by different elements in this film, which settled an important platform for the filming of related theme films in the future.

The olive tree is considered among the most dominant tree crops in Algeria. This culture is often found on the roadsides and around the polluting centers in the western regions. The first study was realized to evaluate the absorp-tion of Copper, Zinc, Lead and Mercury in the roots, shoots and olive leaves irrigated separately with two metallic concentrations (250ppm and 500ppm) was studied in experimental greenhouse. A second study was carried out to determine the presence of metal in olive leaves from the petrochemical in-dustrial zone located in Arzew (Algeria). The results show that Mercury is the most toxic metal for the plant, even at low concentrations. We can see that the contents of Copper, Zinc and Lead in the tissues of the olive tree are pro-portional to their concentrations in the soil. A high concentration of Copper was observed in the leaves than in other tissues. However, Lead was found in the roots and shoots. The elementary composition of the olive leaves of the samples taken in the petrochemical industrial zone shows the absence of dangerous heavy metals such as Lead and Cadmium. This work could con-tribute to clarify the effects of heavy metal in polluted zone on olive trees and its potential toxicity for humans.

Social change and conflict are an integral part of any society, including coastal and small island communities in Indonesia. Therefore, doing research on social change and conflict in these communities is very important. As a tribute to the late Prof. Tjondronegoro, this study analyzes briefly the role of Prof. Tjondronegoro in the study of social change in rural Indonesia. This study also analyzes socio-cultural changes, especially identity and sources of the changes, and social conflict in the coastal and small island communities. This is a qualitative study, conducted by examining relevant literatures. The study shows that the late Prof. Tjondronegoro was a lecturer on social change at graduate programme of IPB who had conducted researches regarding social change. Furthermore, the study indicates that socio-cultural changes have taken place in the coastal and small island communities due to changes of fishing technology, value system, tourism, mining activities, and government policies. Meanwhile, social conflicts have also taken place, mainly those related to access to livelihood sources. Thus, it can be concluded that the late Prof. Tjondronegoro played an important role in the development of research on socio-cultural change in rural Indonesia. Moreover, the coastal and small island communities in Indonesia have undergone social changes and conflict.

AbstractOn the level of existential structure, “Shengsheng Buxi” unfolds an existential structure different from Heidegger’s “being-in-the-world”. This paper calls it “being-between-the-generations”. Through this existential structure, it reveals many aspects which Heidegger ignored in his existential analysis. The existence of “I” between generations is, first of all, a conjunction of generations, “this body” has its own origin. Its original facing the Other is to love his/her parents, and showing the structure of “being-together-with-the-generations” in filial piety; family implements the existence of “inheritance”, thus gaining its ontological status in this structure. The state of mood in generations shows the “Enjoyment-at-home” of this-body; at the same time, being-between-the-generations also makes “learning” and “teaching” indispensable and essential moments in the existential structure, and makes the “Project” of “trans-generations” possible. The “historicity” formed by “generations” has an impact on this. Ultimately, in the memorial ceremony of “death of parents and ancestors”, it builds the structure of “being-together-with-the-generations” within a family, and maintains the dimension of transcendence, in the way of filial piety, whose nature is revealed in The Analects as “Tribute to the death of parents and keeping memory of ancestors” (慎終追遠).

The article is dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Mikhail I. Fikhtengolts (1920–1985) and Vladimir O. Rabei (1922–2009)—professors of the Department of Violin and Viola with an outstanding track record of effective teaching in Gnesin music education institutions. Both of them were trained by and continued the traditions of the famous Russian teacher Abram I. Yampolsky, who produced a plethora of first-class performing musicians with a global impact. Tatyana N. Kazanskaya (1937–2021) was Mikhail Fikhtengolts’s student and Vladimir Rabei’s wife. Paying tribute to the memory of people dear to her, she shares interesting facts of her creative biography and reveals the details of their unique approach to teaching. Through retrospective analysis, she makes an attempt to get insights into the originality of performing, artistic, and aesthetic principles of the two iconic musicians. Her analysis shows similarity and, at the same time, apparent individuality of the two approaches to student training carefully preserved in a modern setting to encourage their continuity. This solid foundation of the art of violin playing ensured a high level of skill in all the violin students of Gnesin educational institutions. It has become an everlasting quality benchmark in music education in Russia and beyond.

The paper presents and discusses the details of the Spatial Grasp Language (SGL), including its philosophy, methodology, syntax, semantics, and implementation in distributed systems. As a key element of the developed Spatial Grasp Model and Technology, SGL has been used in nu-merous applications and publications, including seven books. This inspired us to devote the cur-rent paper exclusively to the main features of this language and comparison with other lan-guages as a tribute to its impact on the Distributed Management Project at the National Acade-my of Sciences, with strong international participation and support. The comparison with other programming languages shows high level, simplicity, and compactness of the obtained solu-tions, which are explained by the fact that SGL operates directly on distributed networked bod-ies in a holistic, parallel, self-navigation and pattern matching mode. This effectively puts up-side down the established practice and opinion that parallel and distributed computing is essen-tially more complex than sequential programming. In comparison with specialized battle man-agement languages oriented on command and control of military campaigns, the SGL pro-gramming example shows high clarity and efficiency for expressing campaigns with spatial movement and maintenance of the needed resources, also confirming its universal ability for extended applications in similar areas. The relation of SGL to natural languages is shown where globally recursive SGL organization can be directly used for describing and analyzing natural language structures of any volume and complexity, just by adding new rules to the SGL defini-tion. SGL can also effectively substitute natural languages for a high-level and quick definition of complex spatial problems and their solutions due to its power, compactness, and formula-like recursive nature.

The article is devoted to the reconstruction of the scientific biography of Vasily Struve at the turn of the 1930—1940s, which can be regarded as reflection of the general evolution of historical science in the USSR. Struve played an important role in the development of scientific policy in the USSR in the 1930s, he substantiated a number of important theses that determined the attitude of the authorities not only to historical science in particular, but also to science in general in the USSR. Struve himself sought to show loyalty to the teachings of the classics of Marxism-Leninism of the Soviet edition, but it was namely in this aspect that he failed. As Struve’s speech at the discussion of volume II of World History in 1940 shows, he was inclined to fidelity to facts, and not ideological schemes, which he was rather forced to pay tribute to. Nevertheless, Struve was not considered an ally either for the authorities or among the new generation of Marxist scholars who turned the Soviet Marxist scheme of historical progress against Struve himself — one of its authors. The desire to sit on two chairs was one of the factors that did not allow the talent of the Struve-scientist to develop fully, while the efforts of the Struve-administrator to develop scientific policy in the USSR were ultimately in vain.

The legacy of Sir Philip Sidney, the distinguished Elizabethan courtier-poet, was the subject of numerous claims to memorialization. On 17 October 1586 Sidney died in battle at Arnhem in the United Netherlands. Less than a week later, his corpse was transported to Flushing, of which Sidney had been Governor, and in the following year Sidney’s body was “interr’d in stately Pauls”, as recorded by Anne Dudley Bradstreet—the first known poet of the British North American colonies. While Bradstreet is omitted from most early modern and contemporary literary accounts of Sidney’s legacy, this article demonstrates that Bradstreet’s commemoration of Sidney from across the Atlantic presents new insights into his afterlife and the female poet’s formulations of early modern nationhood. Bradstreet’s first formal poem, “An Elegie upon that Honorable and renowned Knight, Sir Philip Sidney” (comp. 1637–8), was a tribute to Sidney as well as to her own Anglo-American literary heritage and England’s rolls. Bradstreet exhibits her complex relationship to Sidney along the same lines that she reconceives her English identity. A comparison of the two published seventeenth-century editions of Bradstreet’s elegiac poem (1650, 1678) shows how she translates descent and lineage from kinship (and kingship) into poetic creation. In the process, Bradstreet takes her place not only as a “semi-Sidney”, as Josuah Sylvester characterized Sidney’s descendants, but also as a Sidneian Muse—in America.
