Dasar pendidikan adalah cita-cita kemanusiaan yang universal sehingga dalam pemecahan masalah-masalah pendidikan yang komplek dibutuhkannya filsafah-filsafah agar solusi pemecahan masalah tersebut dapat dirasakan manfaatnya bagi semua kalangan. Salah satu tokoh yang memiliki filsafah kuat tentang pendidikan adalah Ki Hadjar Dewantara. Beliau adalah seorang bangsawan dari lingkungan Kraton Yogyakarta yang memiliki tingkat kepedulian yang tinggi dengan lingkungan pendidikan. Gagasan filosofis yang disapaikan oleh Ki Hajar Dewantara telah menjadi pondasi bagi pendidikan di Indonesia. Menurut Ki Hadjar Dewantara, hakikat pendidikan adalah usaha memasukkan nilai-nilai budaya ke dalam diri anak, sehingga membentuknya menjadi manusia yang utuh baik jiwa dan rohaninya. Filsafat pendidikan ini dikenal dengan filsafat pendidikan among yang di dalamnya merupakan kemampuan dasar anak dalam mengatasi masalah yang mereka alami dengan memberikan kebebasan berpikir yang luas. Dalam perumusan filsafatnya, Ki Hadjar Dewantara menggunakan kebudayaan asli Indonesia sedangkan nilai-nilai dari Barat diambil secara selektif adaptatif sesuai dengan teori trikon. Beberapa kontribusi yang diberikan Ki Hadjar Dewantara bagi pendidikan Indonesia adalah penerapan trilogi kepemimpinan dalam pendidikan, tri pusat pendidikan dan sistem paguron. Pendidikan merupakan salah satu upaya dalam mengembangkan potensi-potensi manusiawi peserta didik baik potensi fisik maupun potensi cipta, rasa, dan karsanya agar suatu potensi dapat menjadi nyata dan berfungsi bagi kehidupnya.

In recent years, the research on dependency parsing focuses on improving the accuracy of the domain-specific (in-domain) test datasets and has made remarkable progress. However, there are innumerable scenarios in the real world that are not covered by the dataset, namely, the out-of-domain dataset. As a result, parsers that perform well on the in-domain data usually suffer from significant performance degradation on the out-of-domain data. Therefore, to adapt the existing in-domain parsers with high performance to a new domain scenario, cross-domain transfer learning methods are essential to solve the domain problem in parsing. This paper examines two scenarios for cross-domain transfer learning: semi-supervised and unsupervised cross-domain transfer learning. Specifically, we adopt a pre-trained language model BERT for training on the source domain (in-domain) data at the subword level and introduce self-training methods varied from tri-training for these two scenarios. The evaluation results on the NLPCC-2019 shared task and universal dependency parsing task indicate the effectiveness of the adopted approaches on cross-domain transfer learning and show the potential of self-learning to cross-lingual transfer learning.

Kegiatan Kampus mengajar Angkatan ke 3 yang merupkan program dari Kementrian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset Dan Teknologi, dengan mengankat tema Penyuluhan Peningkatan Literasi, Numerasi dan Adaptasi Teknologi di Daerah 3T (Terdepan, Terpencil dan Tertinggal) di SMPN Satu Atap 1 Langkaplancar Kabupaten Pangandaran. Campus activities teach Batch 3 which is a program from Kemenristekdikti, with the theme of Counseling on Increasing Literacy, Numeracy and Technology Adaptation in 3T Regions (Terdepan, Terpencil, Tertinggal) at SMPN ONE ATAP 1 Langkaplancar, Pangandaran Regency. The activity carried out in this service is to provide provision to students in the adaptation of face-to-face learning after Covid-19 by strengthening literacy and numeracy as well as technology adaptation. This service activity works in collaboration with students from various tertiary institutions who are enrolled in the KM3 program. The method of implementing community service is carried out using a team-based project, namely by planning projects and products as program outputs, so that they can benefit students in improving learning patterns, leadership skills, soft skills, and character in innovation. And from this activity you can see an increase in the quality of literacy, numeracy and technology adaptation with an average increase of 90%.

ABSTRAKPada keluarga campuran, terdapat perubahan yang membutuhkan penyesuaian dalam aspek-aspek keluarga. Proses perwujudan keluarga dalam keluarga campuran memiliki perbedaan dengan keluarga pada pernikahan sebelumnya. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji adaptasi yang terjadi pada keluarga campuran dan negosiasi yang dilakukan anggota keluarga campuran dalam berbagai kegiatan dan interaksi pada keluarga campuran. Studi ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan konsep family practice dari David Morgan. Informan dalam penelitian ini sebanyak sembilan orang. Studi ini menemukan variasi proses adaptasi pada keluarga campuran yaitu proses adaptasi secara holistik, natural, dan secara terpaksa. Pada negosiasi terkait dengan kegiatan komunal keluarga campuran dilakukan secara eksplisit dan implisit. Proses perwujudan keluarga pada keluarga campuran dapat dilihat melalui proses adaptasi dan negosiasinya. Kedua hal ini yang kemudian membedakan dengan keluarga pada pernikahan pertama. Dalam aspek-aspek tertentu, keluarga campuran di Indonesia masih dipengaruhi oleh hal-hal yang bersifat kultural seperti dalam hal mediasi ketika terjadi konflik hingga rasa sungkan dengan anggota keluarga baru. As a result, the process of building a family in a blended family differs from that of a family formed through a first marriage. This research stems from a desire to comprehend the embodiment of the family in a blended family through family communal activities such as family rituals and routines. This study examines the adaptations that occur in blended families and the negotiations that blended family members engage in addressing various activities and interactions. This study employed a qualitative method using the concept of family practice by David Morgan. Nine informants were involved in this study. This study revealed three types of adaption processes in blended families: holistically, naturally, and forcibly. Negotiations around communal activities in blended families take place both explicitly and implicitly. In a blended family, the process of an embodiment of the family can be seen through adaptation and negotiation processes. These two factors distinguish a blended family from a family formed through a first marriage. In certain ways, blended families in Indonesia continue to be influenced by cultural factors, such as mediation when there is a problem or feeling reluctant with new family members. Morphological and biochemical characteristics of biopsies obtained from gastrocnemius (GAS) and triceps brachii muscle (TRI), as well as maximal O2 uptake (VO2 max) and O2 deficit, were determined in 10 well-trained cross-country skiers before and after a 2-wk stay (2,100 m above sea level) and training (2,700 m above sea level) at altitude. On return to sea level, VO2 max was the same as the prealtitude value, whereas an increase in O2 deficit (29%) and in short-term running performance (17%) was observed (P less than 0.05). GAS showed maintained capillary supply but a 10% decrease in mitochondrial enzyme activities (P less than 0.05), whereas an increase in capillary supply (P less than 0.05) but unchanged mitochondrial enzyme activities were observed in TRI. Buffer capacity was increased by 6% in both GAS and TRI (P less than 0.05). A positive correlation was found between the relative increase in buffer capacity of GAS and short-term running time (P less than 0.05). Thus the present study indicates no effect of 2 wk of altitude training on VO2 max but provides evidence to suggest an improvement in short-term exercise performance, which may be the result of an increase in muscle buffer capacity.

Resumo Este estudo buscou adaptar e obter evidências de validade da Escala de Satisfação com a Escolha do Curso (ESEC) para uso no contexto brasileiro. Participaram deste estudo 674 estudantes universitários, com idade variando entre 18 e 62 anos (M= 23,18, DP= 5,81). Seis modelos fatoriais unidimensionais foram testados com o objetivo de identificar a solução mais parcimoniosa para o instrumento. Sugere-se uma solução final com quatro itens, ao invés de seis. Análises de TRI foram realizadas e observou-se alta fidedignidade da escala para mensuração de baixos níveis do traço latente. A ESEC esteve significativamente correlacionada com os cinco fatores de personalidade, adaptabilidade de carreira e satisfação com a vida. Indica-se que a ESEC apresenta evidências de validade favoráveis ao seu uso no contexto brasileiro, mas o instrumento identifica melhor indivíduos insatisfeitos com a escolha do curso do que os satisfeitos.

Climate warming is a phenomenon that is constantly in the news, both in the scientific community and among decision-makers, due to its consequences. The main objective of this study is to analyse the adverse effects of global warming on the bioclimatic environment and on the performance of farmers in Mouyondzi District. It was conducted using bioclimatic index (THI) calculation methods on tri-annual mean temperature and relative humidity data from two sub-periods (1950-1969 and 2001-2011). The main results showed a change in the pattern of mean temperatures during the different sub-periods analysed. Low temperatures are observed from June to August or even September from 0h to 6h. High temperatures are now recorded from 9am to 6pm instead of 12pm to 3pm during the months of January to May and October to December. Faced with this thermal discomfort, which has led to numerous harms, farmers have put in place numerous unsatisfactory adaptation strategies, failing to change their activities.

Abstract Discourse parsing has been studied for decades. However, it still remains challenging to utilize discourse parsing for real-world applications because the parsing accuracy degrades significantly on out-of-domain text. In this paper, we report and discuss the effectiveness and limitations of bootstrapping methods for adapting modern BERT-based discourse dependency parsers to out-of-domain text without relying on additional human supervision. Specifically, we investigate self-training, co-training, tri-training, and asymmetric tri-training of graph-based and transition-based discourse dependency parsing models, as well as confidence measures and sample selection criteria in two adaptation scenarios: monologue adaptation between scientific disciplines and dialogue genre adaptation. We also release COVID-19 Discourse Dependency Treebank (COVID19-DTB), a new manually annotated resource for discourse dependency parsing of biomedical paper abstracts. The experimental results show that bootstrapping is significantly and consistently effective for unsupervised domain adaptation of discourse dependency parsing, but the low coverage of accurately predicted pseudo labels is a bottleneck for further improvement. We show that active learning can mitigate this limitation.

Les joueurs exigeants acquièrent dès que possible une carte graphique capable de satisfaire leur soif d'immersion dans des jeux dont la précision, le réalisme et l'interactivité redoublent d'intensité au fil du temps. Depuis l'avènement des cartes graphiques dédiées au calcul généraliste, ils n'en sont plus les seuls clients. Dans un premier temps, nous analysons l'apport de ces architectures parallèles spécifiques pour des simulations physiques à grande échelle. Cette étude nous permet de mettre en avant un goulot d'étranglement en particulier limitant la performance des simulations. Partons d'un cas typique : les fissures d'une structure complexe de type barrage en béton armé peuvent être modélisées par un ensemble de particules. La cohésion de la matière ainsi simulée est assurée par les interactions entre elles. Chaque particule est représentée en mémoire par un ensemble de paramètres physiques à consulter systématiquement pour tout calcul de forces entre deux particules. Ainsi, pour que les calculs soient rapides, les données de particules proches dans l'espace doivent être proches en mémoire. Dans le cas contraire, le nombre de défauts de cache augmente et la limite de bande passante de la mémoire peut être atteinte, particulièrement en parallèle, bornant les performances. L'enjeu est de maintenir l'organisation des données en mémoire tout au long de la simulation malgré les mouvements des particules. Les algorithmes de tri standard ne sont pas adaptés car ils trient systématiquement tous les éléments. De plus, ils travaillent sur des structures denses ce qui implique de nombreux déplacements de données en mémoire. Nous proposons PaVo, un algorithme de tri dit adaptatif, c'est-à-dire qu'il sait tirer parti de l'ordre pré-existant dans une séquence. De plus, PaVo maintient des trous dans la structure, répartis de manière à réduire le nombre de déplacements mémoires nécessaires. Nous présentons une généreuse étude expérimentale et comparons les résultats obtenus à plusieurs tris renommés. La diminution des accès à la mémoire a encore plus d'importance pour des simulations à grande échelles sur des architectures parallèles. Nous détaillons une version parallèle de PaVo et évaluons son intérêt. Pour tenir compte de l'irrégularité des applications, la charge de travail est équilibrée dynamiquement par vol de travail. Nous proposons de distribuer automatiquement les données en mémoire de manière à profiter des architectures hiérarchiques. Les tâches sont pré-assignées aux cœurs pour utiliser cette distribution et nous adaptons le moteur de vol pour favoriser des vols de tâches concernant des données proches en mémoire.

Weve presented the results of our research for the conception, execution and
evaluation of an informatized adaptive tool, known as DIA (in portuguese), that allows
evaluate and give a feedback to the student under the perspective of formative evaluation. At
the first stage, we used the PCN: Sciency of the Nature, Mathematics and its Technologies
(BRASIL, 1998) and the Curriculum Matrices of Reference from the Instituto Nacional de
Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais -INEP, to the Sistem of Evaluation for Basic Education -
SAEB (BRASIL, 2005) to build a scale in wich the objectives are in increasing order,
according to the vertical development of the knowledge construction in Mathematics. We
linked the proposed objectives to create a Data Bank (BI, in portuguese) that was used in our
simulations. Weve analized the results of our essay to evaluate the comunication between the
data bank and the scale under the perspective of giving a diagnosis of the construction of the
mathematics knowledge. In our essay, we simulated the functionning of the DIA tool through
an adaptive informatized test based on the "Teoria de Resposta ao Item" (TRI). We were also
interested on determing a profile of a Data Bank (BI) that is able to significantly dialogue
with our scale through the TRI. The scale and the associated data bank should provide a
constructive feedback that will help the stundents develop their metacognitives competencies.Apresentamos os resultados de nossa pesquisa para concepção, execuçãoo e avaliação de uma ferramenta adaptativa informatizada, denominada DIA, que permita tanto avaliar como fornecer feedback a estudantes sob uma perspectiva de avaliação formativa. Na primeira etapa, usamos os PCN: Ciências da Natureza, Matemática e suas Tecnologias (BRASIL, 1998) e as Matrizes Curriculares de Referência do Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais - INEP, para o Sistema de Avaliação para a Educação Básica- SAEB (BRASIL, 2005), para construir uma escala, em que os objetivos estão em ordem crescente, de acordo com o desenvolvimento vertical da construção do conhecimento em Matemática. Entrelaçamos os objetivos propostos para criar um Banco de Itens (BI), que foi usado em nossas simulações. Analisamos os resultados obtidos em nosso ensaio para avaliar o diálogo entre o BI e a escala sob a perspectiva de oferecer um diagnóstico de lacunas na construção do conhecimento matemático. Em nosso ensaio, simulamos o funcionamento da ferramenta DIA através de um teste adaptativo informatizado baseado na Teoria de Resposta ao Item (TRI). Também estamos interessados em determinar um perfil de um Banco de Itens, que seja capaz de forma significativa de dialogar com nossa escala através de TRI. A escala e o banco de itens a ela associado devem viabilizar um feedback construtivo que ajude os alunos a desenvolverem competências metacognitivas.

Les hôpitaux et les centres médicaux produisent une énorme quantité d'images médicales numériques chaque jour, notamment sous la forme de séquences d'images. En raison de la grande capacité de stockage et de la bande passante de transmission limitée, une technique de compression efficace est nécessaire. Nous avons proposé un algorithme de compression de séquences d'images médicales MMWaaves. Il repose sur l'utilisation de modèles Markovien couplé avec le codeur Waaves de la société Cira qui est certifié en tant que dispositif médicale. Nous avons démontré que MMWaaves a apporté un gain de compression supérieur à 30% par rapport à JPEG2000 et Waaves tout en gardant la qualité nécessaire pour les diagnostics cliniques (SSIM>0.98). En outre, il a permis d'atteindre des taux de compression égaux à ceux obtenus par H.264 en améliorant la qualité. Ensuite, nous avons développé une nouvelle chaine de compression MLPWaaves à base de différence en DWT suivie d'un nouveau modèle de tri adaptatif LPEAM permettant l'optimisation de la stationnarité locale des coefficients. Nous avons obtenu un gain de compression allant à 80% par rapport à Waaves et JPEG2000 tout en assurant une qualité exceptionnelle pour le diagnostic médical. Finalement, afin de transmettre à distance les images médicales du centre de santé à l'appareil mobile du médecin, nous avons proposé un système de télé-radiologie pour le codage et le décodage basé sur nouveau paradigme multithreading. La validation de cette nouvelle solution a été réalisée sur deux plateformes différentes. Nous avons obtenu un facteur d'accélération égal à 5 sur un Intel Core i7-2600 et un facteur égal à 3 sur une tablette Samsung GalaxyHospitals and medical centers produce an enormous amount of digital medical images every day especially in the form of image sequences. Due to the large storage size and limited transmission and width, an efficient compression technique is necessary. We first proposed a compressor algorithm for medical images sequences MMWaaves. It is based on Markov fields coupled with the certified medical device Waaves of Cira company. We demonstrated that MMWaaves provided a compression gains greater than 30% compared to JPEG2000 and Waaves while ensuring outstanding image quality for medical diagnosis (SSIM> 0.98). In addition, it achieved compression rates equal to those obtained by H.264 while improving the image quality. Then we developed a new compression algorithm MLPWaaves based on DWT difference followed by a new adaptive scanning model LPEAM in order to optimize the local stationary of wavelet coefficients. We obtained a compression gain up to 80% compared to Waaves and JPEG2000 while ensuring exceptional quality for medical diagnosis. Finally, in order to transmit medical images for diagnostic from the health center to the mobile device of the doctor, we proposed client-server remote radiology system for encoding and decoding. It is based on a multithreading paradigm to accelerate treatment. The validation of this solution was performed on two different platforms. We achieved an acceleration factor of 5 on an Intel Core i7-2600 and a factor of 3 on Samsung Galaxy tablet

The aim of the Diploma thesis is to find out the necessary extent to which Slovak company must adjust its marketing strategy to conditions on the Czech market and to work out proposals for improvement of the strategy. The thesis deals with basic approaches to international marketing strategy, their advantages and drawbacks, types of communication media used in international environment and the relationship between communication policy and the rest of the elements of marketing mix in detail. This theoretical knowledge is used in terms of particular company which entered the Czech market. The thesis thereinafter analyses the extent of necessary adjustment of marketing strategy of the company to conditions on the Czech market based on the information provided directly by the management of the company and conducted market research. At the end of the thesis there are proposals for improvement of the strategy of the company which do not have to be in total accordance with its company goals.

The main goal of the thesis is to develop a specific proposition for adaptation of LGI Czechia's marketing strategy with respect to its current position on the Czech market. The first part of the thesis offers indispensable theoretical knowledge of marketing theory and financial analysis. These theoretical foundations are practically applied in the second part of the thesis, which begins with introduction of LGI Czechia, analysis of its marketing strategy and marketing environment as well as its internal predispositions. Based on particular findings the thesis summarizes key marketing areas suitable for improvement. Next part focuses on the adaptation of marketing strategy as it captures problematic areas and develops specific marketing solutions for improvement. Additionally the thesis also offers basic financial analysis of LGI Czechia in comparison with its competitor Kühne + Nagel.

This thesis is focused on adaptation of GEHE Pharma marketing strategy on the Czech wholesaler's market with pharmaceutical products. In the first part the theoretical background needed for the application part of the thesis is summarized. I mention here the possibilities of internationalization, visions and targets of the firms working on the foreign markets and basic analyses needed for acting there. Then I summarize the possibilities of adaptation of the marketing mix mention the specifics of the B2B and the pharmaceutical market. In the following application part GEHE Pharma Company is presented and also her acting on the pharmaceutical market. Then the concrete analyses are made (PEST analysis, SWOT analysis, and Czech pharmaceutical market analysis) and the adaptation of marketing mix of the company was summarized. In the last part of the thesis some suggestions for ameliorations of particular parts of marketing mix are made.

On cherche à quantifier l'action de la balistique intermédiaire sur le vol des projectiles flèches issus de tirs d'armes de calibre moyen employées lors de campagnes d'essais au giat-industries. Ceci conduit à l'étude d'un type de tir d'arme très particulier dénommé tir instationnaire à grande vitesse. Ce dernier est caractérise expérimentalement par l'absence totale de pallier de pression constante sur la mesure de la pression de bouche, et, après le débouchage, par l'arrivée tardive des conditions soniques à la bouche. Pour réduire les coûts des campagnes d'essais et pour fixer avec précision la chronologie de l'interaction, on a mis en place une simulation à échelle réduite des tirs avec prise de clichés ombroscopiques. Les règles de similitude mises au point à l'IMFL pour l'étude des tirs classiques ont été adaptées à ces tirs. Les conditions instationnaires de sortie sont alors prises en compte dans le cadre d'une approche quasi-stationnaire. On montre ainsi que l'écoulement est principalement déterminé par l'énergie émise à la bouche durant un temps caractérisitique d'émission. En utilisant les résultats issus d'essais d'interaction force, on démontre que l'action de la balistique intermédiaire sur le vol des projectiles flèches dépend principalement de la durée de l'interaction et de l'aspect dissymétrique de l'écoulement. Enfin on étend à ces tirs une loi de propagation du souffle sur l'axe de tir développée à l'IMFL et concernant les tirs classiques. Des diagrammes de marche sont ainsi mis en place. L'expérience montre alors que la loi analytique permet d'approcher la propagation réelle du souffle avec une précision de l'ordre de 98%, à partir des seules données de la vitesse du projectile, des mesures de la pression de bouche et du temps d'arrivée du souffle en un point suffisamment éloigne de la bouche.

Previous issue date: 2013-03-08In the search for an approach that embraced language learning in a more global and dynamic way, applied linguists such as Larsen-Freeman (1997) and Paiva (2005) resorted to Chaos/Complexity theories as a metaphor to deal with the learning process. In this perspective, we defend that learning a language is a complex adaptive system (CAS), since it has all of its characteristics: it is open, susceptible to external factors and to initial conditions, unpredictable, non-linear, ruled by low level rules and self-organized. Besides, in order to keep functioning, active, a CAS needs the interaction among its constituting elements. In this study, we also worked with the concept of interlanguage, developed through five central processes (SELINKER, 1972) which we understand to have some points in common with the characteristics that constitute the CAS. It is also relevant to ponder the fact that the learning process of a foreign language can be affected by many factors through time, as well as that it does not follow a determined pattern of development, something that could be predicted. Likewise, innate factors should be taken into account in the learning process, since the context in which it takes place also plays an important role in the success of learning a language. Thus, the aim of this research was to investigate, through the writing ability being practiced and shown in a blog, the development of the interlanguage of two students of a teaching course in Languages/English of a public university. The intention was to verify how the interlanguage of the two students behaves during the sixth and seventh semester of English Language when the online activity was developed, analyzing the fluency, accuracy and grammatical complexity of their published texts. Besides, we observed how the collaborative correction of these texts, when the students worked as proofreaders of one another, making linguistic as well as communicative adjustments in the productions using the online tool, can influence their interlanguage, contributing to their improvement in writing in English.
Na busca por uma abordagem que abarcasse a aprendizagem de línguas de uma forma mais global e dinâmica, linguistas aplicados como Larsen-Freeman (1997) e Paiva (2005) recorreram às teorias do Caos/Complexidade como metáfora para tratar desse processo. Nessa perspectiva, defende-se que aprender uma língua é um sistema adaptativo complexo, pois possui todas as suas características: é aberto, sensível a fatores externos e a condições iniciais, imprevisível, não-linear, regido por regras de baixo nível e auto-organizável. Além disso, considera-se também que para um sistema se manter ativo, funcionando, é necessária a interação de suas partes, já que é por meio da interação que os elementos que constituem o sistema são mantidos em constante movimento. Neste estudo também se trabalhou com o conceito de interlíngua, desenvolvida por meio de cinco processos centrais (SELINKER,1972), os quais se entende que possuem pontos de contato com as características que delineiam os sistemas complexos. É também relevante atentar para o fato de que o processo de aprendizagem de um idioma pode ser afetado por diversos fatores ao longo do tempo, além de não seguir um padrão determinado de desenvolvimento que possa ser previsto. Da mesma forma como questões inatas devem ser consideradas na aquisição de uma língua, o meio onde esse processo se dá também desempenha um papel importante para o sucesso na aprendizagem. Assim, o foco da presente pesquisa foi investigar o desenvolvimento da interlíngua em duas alunas de um curso de Licenciatura em Letras Habilitação em Língua Inglesa de uma universidade federal por meio da observação da presença da interlíngua na habilidade escrita trabalhada em um blog. Pretendeu-se verificar, por meio da fluência, precisão e complexidade gramatical dos textos publicados pelas alunas, como sua interlíngua comportou-se durante o sexto e o sétimo semestres da disciplina de Língua Inglesa em que a atividade de produção online nessa língua foi proposta. Além disso, se observou como o trabalho colaborativo mediado pela ferramenta online, em que os colegas agiram como revisores dos comunicativa, pode influenciar a interlíngua dessas alunas, contribuindo para seu aprimoramento na escrita no idioma.

Il termine "adattamento", nella sua accezione di "adattamento ai cambiamenti climatici", è oggi un umbrella term che ne sta riducendo la capacità proiettiva.
Oggetto della tesi è quindi l’adattamento nella sua più ampia accezione.
Obiettivo principale della ricerca è quindi perimetrare la nuova cultura progettuale che lentamente sta cambiando in profondità il corpo del territorio e le pratiche d’uso che lo attraversano.
Per comprendere meglio cos’è l’adattamento, come lo si può descrivere, leggere, interpretare e inquadrare all’interno delle scienze del territorio, è necessario analizzare questo tema con uno sguardo che possiamo definire “strabico”. Da un lato – da lontano – utile a costruire un perimetro concettuale utile a individuare le culture che ne stanno alla base, dall’altro – con un punto di vista ravvicinato – con uno sguardo capace di contestualizzare e riconoscere l’adattamento nei processi di trasformazione che sono in atto nel territorio, per riconoscere materiali, attori, geografie e razionalità.The term "adaptation," in its meaning of "adaptation to climate change," is now an umbrella term that is reducing its projective capacity. The subject of this thesis is therefore adaptation in its broadest sense. The main objective of the research is thus to perimeter the new design culture that is slowly changing in depth the body of land and the practices of use that go through it. In order to better understand what adaptation is, how it can be described, read, interpreted and framed within the land sciences, it is necessary to analyze this topic with a gaze that we can define as "squinting." On the one hand-from a distance-helpful to construct a conceptual perimeter useful to identify the underlying cultures, on the other hand-with a close viewpoint-with a gaze capable of contextualizing and recognizing adaptation in the processes of transformation that are taking place in the territory, in order to recognize materials, actors, geographies and rationales.

The Atlas of Territorial Heritage in the Municipality of East Havana is a useful tool in order to reach a complete knowledge of an extended Cuban municipality belonging to Havana, Cuba. At the same time the atlas is useful to generate analytical bases for future urban planning interventions and transformations, which can be focused on the idea of territorial heritage as an essential resource for a self-sustaining development. The main objective is to explain the tangible and intangible components of the heritage and try to stimulate and strengthen the community’s awareness on the richness of territory and its potential. Thus communities can express themselves in the adaptation to environmental, climatic, demographic and economic changes. The Atlas was developed by an Italian/Cuban team of experts in different phases and has been updated recently. It contains the results of a deep and accurate analysis and cataloging, made up of a large number of data concerning the various areas of research. The data were organized in typologies and punctually located in maps. The multifaceted and dense richness of Cuban culture finds in this volume a confirmation, and makes possible to put into practice cognitive tools for safeguarding and valorization, a strong point for new challenges of contemporaneity.

This chapter focuses on Ray Bradbury's 1951 trip to New York, describing it as more personally stressful than any of his previous visits. While in New York, Bradbury wrote two new pages for “The Magical Kitchen” and produced a new page for a very short time-travel piece titled “The Dragon.” He also felt that he could handle the unpredictability of the New York publishing world this time around. This chapter begins with a discussion of Bradbury's itinerary in New York, including meetings with magazine editors such as Eleanor Stierham of Today's Woman and a lecture on writing at Columbia University; he also watched a first-run performance of Darkness at Noon, the Sidney Kingsley adaptation of Arthur Koestler's novel. The chapter then turns to a series of unpleasant encounters that unnerved Bradbury, particularly the four editorial parties he attended and his confrontation with a group of ballet dancers. Bradbury articulated his feelings in “A Flight of Ravens,” his highly autobiographical story of the final days of his New York trip.

When one family member or spouse gradually loses the ability both to tell stories and to remember shared events and stories due to dementia, this is often experienced as very distressing by other family members—especially in families that honor storytelling. In those cases, not being able to tell stories and cherish the common history is a potential threat both to the experience of belonging together and to the participants’ individual and shared identities, as well as their stories about their past. Most spouses and family members try to remediate the communicative problems caused by the progressing dementia by taking over some of the functions lost by the person with dementia through collaborative compensatory adaptation. Other participants who take over interactional and narrative functions assume some of the responsibility for the storytelling. In this sense collaborative storytelling becomes an important way for couples to retain their relationship.

Abstract Bananas are a staple for more than 400 million people. Additionally, more than 16.5 million tonnes are exported, making it both an important food security and a cash crop. Productivity of Cavendish-type bananas is threatened by both abiotic and biotic stresses. The fact that triploid bananas are sterile, parthenocarpic and obligate vegetatively propagated makes them particularly susceptible to diseases, including Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc) tropical race 4 (Foc TR4). This is because continual clonal propagation has led to loss of genetic diversity. Additionally, lack of meiosis limits methods for breeding. Foc TR4 has been devastating Cavendish bananas in South-east Asia but has recently also been reported from Queensland in Australia, the Middle East and Mozambique, thus threatening global banana production. To address this, we are performing mutagenesis of in vitro propagated bananas to broaden the genetic diversity in order to find new alleles conferring disease resistance. We have developed methods for efficient induction of mutations in isolated apical meristems from shoot tips using chemical mutagens and ionizing radiation. Mutation discovery methods have been adapted to recover mutations including single point mutations and large deletions spanning millions of base pairs. We have created approximately 5000 mutated lines for forward-genetic screens to identify TR4 resistance in greenhouse- evaluated material. A subset of ca. 500 in vitro plantlets was subjected to glasshouse-based screening using a virulent F. oxysporum isolate. To date, 23 lines showing altered resistance responses to Foc TR4 have been identified.

AbstractThis chapter was aimed at evaluating the responses of livestock to fluctuations in climate and the debilitating effect of livestock production on the environment. Survey of livestock stakeholders (farmers, researchers, marketers, and traders) was carried out in Sahel, Sudan, Northern Guinea Savannah, Southern Guinea Savannah, and Derived Savannah zones of Nigeria. In total, 362 respondents were interviewed between April and June 2020. The distribution of the respondents was 22 in Sahel, 57 in Sudan, 61 in Northern Guinea Savannah, 80 in Southern Guinea Savannah, and 106 in Derived Savannah. The respondents were purposively interviewed based on their engagement in livestock production, research or trading activities. Thirty-eight years’ climate data from 1982 to 2019 were obtained from Nigerian Metrological Agency, Abuja. Ilela, Kiyawa, and Sabon Gari were chosen to represent Sahel, Sudan, and Northern Guinea Savannah zone of Nigeria, respectively. The data contained precipitation, relative humidity, and minimum and maximum temperature. The temperature humidity index (THI) was calculated using the formula: THI = 0.8*T + RH*(T-14.4) + 46.4, where T = ambient or dry-bulb temperature in °C and RH=relative humidity expressed as a proportion. Three Machine Learning model were built to predict the monthly minimum temperature, maximum temperature, and relative humidity respectively based on information from the previous 11 months. The methodology adopted is to treat each prediction task as a supervised learning problem. This involves transforming the time series data into a feature-target dataset using autoregressive (AR) technique. The major component of the activities of livestock that was known to cause injury to the environment as depicted in this chapter was the production of greenhouse gases. From the respondents in this chapter, some adaptive measures were stated as having controlling and mitigating effect at reducing the effect of activities of livestock on the climate and the environment. The environment and climate on the other side of the dual pathway is also known to induce stress on livestock. The concept of crop-livestock integration system is advocated in this chapter as beneficial to livestock and environment in the short and long run. Based on the predictive model developed for temperature and relative humidity in a sample location (Ilela) using Machine Learning in this chapter, there is need for development of a web or standalone application that will be useable by Nigerian farmers, meteorological agencies, and extension organizations as climate fluctuation early warning system. Development of this predictive model needs to be expanded and made functional.

Abstract Since its introduction into the Southern Highlands of Tanzania by researchers 25 years ago, Conservation Agriculture (CA) has been well received, researched and the concept proven to be increasing productivity and incomes, enhancing resilience of livelihoods and contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. CA research, as defined by the three interlined principles, was introduced into the Southern Highlands by the Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) Uyole, formerly Agricultural Research Institute (ARI) Uyole around 1995. Research results showed a labour saving of up to 70% in CA compared to conventional tillage, yield increases of 26%-100% and 360% for maize and sunflower, respectively, partly attributed to higher moisture content (18%-24%) in CA systems. CA was also found to be much more effective in mitigating dry spells and increasing productivity in maize production in areas where average annual rainfall is less than 770 mm. Economic analysis of maize production showed that profits in CA were three times more than in conventional tillage production at US$526.9 ha-1 and US$ 176.6 ha-1, respectively. Profits were twice as much for beans under CA at US$917.4 ha-1 compared to US$376.3 ha-1 for conventional practice. Studies confirm that 5% of farmers in the Southern Highlands have adopted CA. Increased uptake requires addressing challenges including resistance to change in mindset, inaccessibility of appropriate mechanization and cover crop seeds, traditions of free-range communal grazing of livestock (which makes it difficult for farmers to retain crop residue in their farms) and shortage of investment capital. A holistic value chain approach is recommended in CA interventions, bringing together various stakeholders including scientists, trainers, extension workers, administrators, policy makers, agro-inputs and machinery dealers, machinery service providers, agro-processors and financial institutions. The innovations adaptation set-up brings service providers closer to farmers for co-innovation. Long-term CA programmes are recommended, with farmers being taken through the complete learning cycle in testing CA technologies under their own farm environments. Aiming for the European and North American tri-generation market, highly-efficient systems are being developed. At the moment, single-stage absorption chillers are typically coupled to co-generation engines through a single hot water loop at temperatures below 100°C (210°F). In this configuration, the heat from the exhaust gas at temperatures of about 400-500°C (750-930°F) is transferred to the water loop, which is accompanied by a significant loss of exergy. A substantial increase in system performance can be achieved by a stepwise utilisation of the exhaust gas enthalpy in a Double-Effect and a Single-Effect cycle. In this combination of one-and two-stage chillers the coefficient of performance (COP) increases from about 0.7 to almost 1.0 whereby the cooling capacity rises by about 25%. In order to facilitate optimum adaptation of the aggregates - i.e. motor engine and absorption chiller - and to give maximum flexibility an innovative system concept has been developed. The new coupling scheme is based on a standard direct-fired Double-Effect chiller and introduces only minor design changes, like adaptation of the thermal layout of the exhaust gas driven regenerator heat exchanger of the chiller. No additional low temperature regenerators are required. In case of simultaneous heating and cooling the system supports a continuous switchover between maximum cooling and maximum heating capacity. In this mode up to 80% of the driving heat for cold production can be recovered as useful heat at temperatures up to 100°C (210°F). A description of the coupling scheme together with a discussion of energetic and operational characteristics of the concept is presented. Full-scale demonstration projects are under preparation.

In this paper, we propose a deep multi-Task learning model based on Adversarial-and-COoperative nets (TACO). The goal is to use an adversarial-and-cooperative strategy to decouple the task-common and task-specific knowledge, facilitating the fine-grained knowledge sharing among tasks. TACO accommodates multiple game players, i.e., feature extractors, domain discriminator, and tri-classifiers. They play the MinMax games adversarially and cooperatively to distill the task-common and task-specific features, while respecting their discriminative structures. Moreover, it adopts a divide-and-combine strategy to leverage the decoupled multi-view information to further improve the generalization performance of the model. The experimental results show that our proposed method significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art algorithms on the benchmark datasets in both multi-task learning and semi-supervised domain adaptation scenarios.

Canada 1 Water is a 3-year governmental multi-department-private-sector-academic collaboration to model the groundwater-surface-water of Canada coupled with historic climate and climate scenario input. To address this challenge continental Canada has been allocated to one of 6 large watershed basins of approximately two million km2. The model domains are based on natural watershed boundaries and include approximately 1 million km2 of the United States. In year one (2020-2021) data assembly and validation of some 20 datasets (layers) is the focus of work along with conceptual model development. To support analysis of the entire water balance the modelling framework consists of three distinct components and modelling software. Land Surface modelling with the Community Land Model will support information needed for both the regional climate modelling using the Weather Research & Forecasting model (WRF), and input to HydroGeoSphere for groundwater-surface-water modelling. The inclusion of the transboundary watersheds will provide a first time assessment of water resources in this critical international domain. Modelling is also being integrated with Remote Sensing datasets, notably the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE). GRACE supports regional scale watershed analysis of total water flux. GRACE along with terrestrial time-series data will serve provide validation datasets for model results to ensure that the final project outputs are representative and reliable. The project has an active engagement and collaborative effort underway to try and maximize the long-term benefit of the framework. Much of the supporting model datasets will be published under open access licence to support broad usage and integration.

Tap and Reposition Youth (TRY) was a four-year initiative undertaken by the Population Council and K-Rep Development Agency to reduce adolescents’ vulnerabilities to adverse social and reproductive health outcomes by improving livelihoods options. The project targeted out-of-school adolescent girls and young women aged 16–22 residing in low-income and slum areas of Nairobi. TRY used a modified group-based micro-finance model to extend integrated savings, credit, business support, and mentoring to out-of-school adolescents and young women. A longitudinal study of participants was conducted with a matched comparison group identified through cross-sectional community-based studies, undertaken at baseline and endline to enable an assessment of changes associated with the project. This report states that 326 participants and their controls were interviewed at baseline and 222 pairs were interviewed at endline. The results suggest that rigorous micro-finance models may be appropriate for a subset of girls, especially those who are older and less vulnerable. The impact on noneconomic indicators is less clear. Additional experimentation and adaptation is required to develop livelihoods models that acknowledge and respond to the particular situation of adolescent girls.

The UK government are committed to bringing forward legislation to allow the safe and secure deployment of self-driving vehicles. As part of the CAVPASS programme, TRL was commissioned to propose approaches to vehicle classification, and suitable technical requirements for aspects not related to the Automated Driving System (ADS). These included crashworthiness, occupant protection, protection of vulnerable Road Users (VRUs), and the lighting, braking and steering systems. The focus of this study was on Low-Speed Automated Vehicles (LSAVs). It involved selection and adaptation of existing pre- and post-deployment regulation to enable it to be applied to LSAVs. A main part was the adaptation of the technical regulations for M- and N-category vehicles, laid down in Great Britain’s Road Vehicles (Approval) Regulations 2020 (SI 2020 No. 818), which implements retained Regulation (EU) 2018/858. The study proposed the introduction of two new vehicle categories (for LSAVs with and without occupants, respectively) to allow approval of designs not compatible with the M- and N-category definitions, such as passenger shuttles with six seats and space for standing passengers, or goods vehicles without any seats. Technical clarifications for regulations were developed relating to references to the driver or driver’s seat, controls, warnings and tell-tales and relating to bi-directional vehicles in general. The study further found that a general permission to carry standing passengers in light vehicles could present unreasonable risks to occupants in braking maneuvers or collisions, but that it could be safe in some Operational Design Domains (ODDs). A concept was proposed which offers manufacturers a choice between two Crashworthiness Approval Levels (CALs). The less demanding CAL allows standing passengers but restricts the subsequent ODD of the vehicles. In summary, the study proposed a novel approach to link approval regulations to the vehicle’s ODD and a set of technical requirements for non-ADS-related aspects of passenger- and goods-carrying LSAVs, which could help enable the approval of new vehicle concepts.

This study assesses the interaction between climate change and agricultural trade policies. We distinguish between two dimensions of agricultural trade policy: market insulation and subsidy levels. Building on the previous work of Tsigas, Frisvold and Kuhn (1997) we find that, in the presence of current levels of agricultural subsidies, increased price transmission --as called for under the Uruguay Round Agreement on Agriculture-- reduces global welfare in the wake of climate change. This is due to the positive correlation between productivity changes and current levels of agricultural support. Increases in subsidized output under climate change tend to exacerbate inefficiencies in the global agricultural economy in the absence of market insulation. However, once agricultural subsidies have also been eliminated, price transmission via the global trading system contributes positively to economic adaptation under climate change. products. This may partially explain the relatively slow growth of world grain import demand in recent years. In addition, bilateral agreements with East Asia, NAFTA, and the evolution of the CAP, have all had important impacts on the structure of world food and agricultural trade. The objective of this paper is to assess the relative role of each of the major forces-- consumer demand, factor accumulation, transport costs, and policy change--in driving changes in the composition of world food trade in 1980-1995. To do so, we employ a modified version of the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) model of world trade which permits us to isolate the contribution of each of these related factors to the changing composition of world food trade in a general equilibrium context. We evaluate the relative role of each of these factors by simulating the model backwards in time, from 1995 to 1980 under different assumptions. This general approach, termed “backcasting” (i.e. backwards forecasting), takes as exogenous the basic drivers of change and attempts to explain the resulting change in food trade composition. The model-produced changes in the composition of agricultural and food trade are compared with historical trade data, to determine the relative importance of each factor on the changing composition of food trade. Given limited space, our focus will be on explaining the changes in the global composition of food and agriculture trade. A natural follow-on effort would target specific markets in more detail. This type of backcasting approach was first employed by Gehlhar (1997) who sought to explain the shift in exports of primary commodities to manufactures in East Asia in the 1980's. He calibrated the GTAP model to 1992 data, then implemented shocks to factor endowments and economywide total factor productivity (TFP) in order to force each economy back to its 1982 levels of population, land, labor, human capital, physical capital and technology. By comparing actual and predicted changes in export shares in this period, he found human capital accumulation played a key role in explaining the change in the aggregate composition of East Asian exports. Gehlhar, Hertel and Martin (1994) built on this work in an effort to predict future changes in the pattern of agricultural trade from 1992-2002. They also emphasized the importance of supply-side determinants of agricultural trade. In this paper, we go beyond this earlier work in a number of ways. First, we focus on the composition of agricultural exports, rather than simply looking at the share of agriculture in total trade. Secondly, we incorporate the Cranfield et al. estimates of Rimmer and Powell’s recently developed, implicitly directly additive demand system (nicknamed AIDADS) into the GTAP model.
