Full textIn this thesis I am going to investigate the trends within e-business, what it is that drive
these trends and why these drivers are of such importance. I chose this subject since I have
found it very interesting and useful in my career because of the importance it embraces in
today’s business world.
The aspect of e-commerce has changed a lot lately to in the beginning of the 1990s be
about being present on the Internet with a web site, to being about transactions, meaning
to buy or sell through digital media at the end of the 1990s, to today be about being used to
make profitability – an era that can be called e-business, because it is now that e-business
finally gets its big breakthrough and starts to be recognized as a necessity for companies to
survive. As long as e-business has existed so have trends in the same matter. What will be
the trends of e-business in the future? Impossible to say of course, but by taking today’s
major trends into consideration, and to look at what drives these trends might have, will
make it possible to get a glimpse of the future of this relatively new business phenomenon
called e-business.
To get the best result possible of my thesis I have made a wide literature study in the subject
by reading and examine accurate literature and articles as well as carried out interviews
with different IT-gurus and other persons that is thought to withhold a lot of information
about my chosen subject.
I have focused on two major trends being customer oriented trends and service digitization.
Customer oriented trends are trends which have their focus towards customers such
as customer service, offering more product choices and to have integrated solutions. Service
digitization is the transformation of paper-based transactions into the new integrated
multi-channel processes. The driver I have found of most significance and therefore focused
on is customers. Customers are important as drivers since they have adopted a new
role in the business process. Customers nowadays have found a way to let their voices to
be heard. With the help of blogs, social networks and wikis over the Internet they can express
their feelings and suggestions about products as well as companies and have so to say
gained a more active role as customers to also taking part of the development. This voice
of the customers is highly essential to listen to if you as a company want to survive in a
business world where customers get more and more power.
After finishing this study I came up with the importance of service, and especially customer
service as well of personalization and customization (to personalize the shopping experience
for the customer). Another important conclusion is the importance of customers,
both as trends to focus on, as well as drivers behind these trends.

With its popularity, Twitter has become an increasingly valuable source of real-time, user-generated information about interesting events in our world. This thesis presents TwitGeo, a system to explore and visualize trending topics on Twitter. It features an interactive map that summarizes trends across dierent geographical regions. Powered by a novel GPU-based datastore, this system performs ad hoc trend detection without predefined temporal or geospatial indexes, and is capable of discovering trends with arbitrary granularity in both dimensions. An evaluation of the system shows promising results for visualizing trends on Twitter in real time.

Full textThis tutorial is an examination of trends in telemetry systems as we approach the 1990s. . . a look at where we are, and where we appear to be headed in the near future. Historically, the typical change in our technology is brought about by one of three conditions. First, users demand performance improvements in order to facilitate their analysis of test programs. Second, manufacturers make performance improvements because continuing advances in component technology enable them to offer improved products for telemetry applications. Third, developments in non-telemetry applications, both hardware and software, are adapted to our needs by system designers. We will see the results of all three conditions as we look at trends in telemetry systems.

Full textIn the last years, research is focusing on the development of innovative design solutions aimed at reducing development time, costs and increase the quality enabling the companies to reduce the time-to-market. Among the most relevant solutions, the AR/MR/VR technologies allow to realize High-Fidelity virtual prototypes that can be used to carry out tests with real users. Nevertheless, the companies review their prototyping techniques according to the product that are developing, not optimizing the development costs and not taking into account the psychophysical characteristics of the real user. The work presented in this thesis is therefore focused on the definition of a structured framework integrated in the traditional design process and able to support the designers choices for the development of High-Fidelity virtual prototypes in order to experiment the adopted design solution in real context. In order to achieve this goal a methodology is defined. It is based on a User-Centered Design approach according to which the customer is involved in all steps. With the purpose to validate the proposed methodology a set of VP tools are implemented. In addition, the results from the methodology application with the implemented VP tools allow to develop an interactive and reconfigurable Virtual Reality system suitable to equip a laboratory in order to create a complete Virtual User Experience. The overall framework is applied to three real industrial case studies. All concern the study of innovative User Interfaces for various contexts of use: a) a web-based platform to properly support contract furniture, b) an innovative solution to monitor the physiological parameters of a user and therefore to create customized wellness routes, c) a User Interface applied to a shower with high usability for elderly and visual impaired people.

Microelectronic devices traditionally were manufactured by companies that both designed and produced integrated chips. This process was important in 1970's and 1980's when the manufacturing processes required tweaking the design, understanding of the manufacturing processes and occasional need to redesign. As manufacturing techniques and standards evolved, companies have changed their business model and have started to outsource their manufacturing to merchant foundries. Semiconductor companies have also started to outsource the design and verification of their chips to third party design service companies and focus on core competence like research and development of new technologies and defining protocols. This trend has evolved even though the chips have become much more complex, hard to design and hard to manufacture. This thesis studies the different players in the supply chain, how each player has evolved and the challenges companies face in making decisions regarding outsourcing internal processes. It was found that the advancements in the downstream industries such as EDA, Design Suppliers and EMS have helped fabless companies remain competitive with IDM's (Integrated Device Manufacturers). The fabless companies compete in different markets that do not need the most advanced processing technologies used by leading-edge companies.

In the backdrop of the dotcom bubble burst, companies cleaned up the excesses of the nineties and are more agile and efficient than ever before. However, companies face tremendous pressure to improve shareholder returns. A new trend is emerging as more and more capital is flowing into Private equity, especially in the buyout industry. Both established and entrepreneurial companies are exploring new ways to partner with Private equity firms to restructure and build long-term shareholder value. In this thesis, I will perform an in-depth study of private equity led merger and acquisitions trends since the bubble burst. I will investigate the emerging trend of tech buyouts, activist led corporate governance reforms, analyse tech buyout transactions from 2000-2005 and comparative study of 3 tech buyout firms, and leadership challenges in the private equity industry.

Full textWhile the adoption rate of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is increasing, mass-market adoption will not be achieved until a few major challenges are addressed. These challenges are: privacy, security and costs from the end-user's view point and limited power supply to the tag from the engineering perspective. We discuss the research efforts aimed at addressing these challenges. We focus our attention on research in: RFID privacy and security, antennas, polymer electronics-based RFID devices, power management circuits and techniques, and efficient RF spectrum utilization. We conclude by drawing attention to three additional areas that we believe are in need of more research.
Yates, James William. "TELEMETRY PROCESSING SYSTEMS DESIGN TRENDS." International Foundation for Telemetering, 1998. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/609213.
Full textCurrent changes in the way that large flight test systems are utilized have affected the industry’s methodology in both the early design phases and in the implementation of nextgeneration hardware and software. The reduction of available RF spectrum, the implementation of packet telemetry methods and systems, and a desire to implement commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware are only some of the considerations that telemetry systems integrators and product houses have to face. This paper describes how test methodology changes affect current large systems design at both government test ranges and at airframe/missile manufacturer test facilities. In addition, consideration is given to the area of increased processing power as it affects hardware and software design, the leveraging of such current and future telecommunications technology as network switch technology and compression, cross utilization, standardized technology, and the movement toward platform-independent software.

Full textT&E range instrumentation systems of diverse designs are located throughout the United States. Used for testing of aircraft weapons systems and missiles these systems are large, expensive, and unique to each site. New technologies now emerging are making possible the construction of small, inexpensive range instrumentation systems of common design and significant capability. Using industry-standard bus designs and distributed general-purpose microprocessors, these systems, while still using existing instrumentation, will be able to provide growth flexibility that is not inherent in today’s monolithic architectures. This paper will review the design and capabilities of a few systems currently under construction as well as describe what can be expected in the immediate future of range instrumentation systems with the transponders using multilateration techniques for position location and message handling. Range instrumentation (RI) systems of various forms have been in place since the testing of weapons systems began. As the technology evolved computers became integral parts of these systems, significantly expanding their capabilities both from the standpoint of data capture and data analysis. That this evolution is continuing can be demonstrated by two RI systems currently under construction: A fixed-site tracking system and mobile tracking system (the Mobile Sea Range, MSR). While these new systems define the state-ofthe-art in computer-based RI systems, new technologies now evolving and the budget-conscious climate that is likely to continue for many years will require changes in our thinking of what an RI system should look like and how it will be maintained. What follows is a brief description of both these fixed and mobile RI systems, an analysis of RI trends, and a few recommendations of what can be done to improve future systems.

Full textIncreased usage of PSK signals in TT&C formats has generated unique challenges for ground support equipment developers. DSI has met this challenge with the introduction of its model 7133 BPSK / QPSK modem. Enhanced on the Aerojet / USAF GS-14 program, the 7133 is the latest addition to the company's modem product line. The 7133 uses a dual mode cross arm Costas loop to demodulate BPSK or QPSK data. With an implementation loss averaging 0.8 dB, the 7133 demodulates asynchronous 2.56 MBps QPSK data. It also processes BPSK data at rates up to 2.56 MBps, with a loss of less than 0.5 dB. We present the 7133 demod design and test results. Current work at DSI extends the basic 7133 design to handle unbalanced QPSK formats. DSI's new model 7750 receiver-demodulator processes quadrature input signals either in pairs or independently. The 7750 uses phase locked loops to demodulate PSK, FM, PM or AM. We present the 7750 extended Costas loop design and preliminary test results. Finally, we look at applying recent DSP and NCO IC's to multi-mode TT&C demodulation.

The benefits of small-scale freshwater fisheries In addition to consumption for food security, they make an important contribution to an economy both locally and regionally, as well as on an international scale, in this way, with the objective of investigating how the Quantities, hake and the values generated by different modes of freshwater fishing in the world and test a hypothesis of an economic contribution of small-scale continental fisheries is higher in developing countries than other forms of freshwater fishing in developed countries. For this, a systematic review of the literature and synthesis of information was made. Thus, it could be observed that in the period 2004-2015 the freshwater fisheries production, accumulated a loss of 775 millions of ton. Freshwater fishery production abruptly decreased markedly from 2010 onwards. Subsistence fishery was chiefly recorded in Africa and the small-scale fishery was prevalent in Asia. The highest fishing production was recorded in USA (mostly recreational) and in Mali, in western Africa. The development of FWF is still encouraged in those areas were inland water bodies are under-utilized and poor managed, but data gathered here suggested otherwise; freshwater environments should be indeed monitored and conserved aiming management since fishery has been intensively performed in these areas through the world.
