Abstract:
Currently the market is realizing the real necessity to treat the procurement area as part of the business strategy, and not only like a purchasing department, that can not just minimize costs, but also added value to the business. In this scene, the engineering consulting companies do not restrict only to sale engineering projects, but complete solutions on Turn Key contracts, where the client gets your process plant ready to operate. These contracts are sold for a global price and the client pay according to a schedule of fulfillment the contract marks - most important events for the conclusion of the plant. Ally to these contract marks, are the Acquisition Process for the project, that should be able to plan and purchase according to the solicitant area (engineering) and delivery in site according to the assembly necessity. This work has the objective to give a strategic focus to the acquisition area, specifying a procurement process of materials, equipments and services for companies that provide advanced services of engineering consulting, considering the activity´s strategic aspects on the new economy context.

Abstract:
The waste framework directive from the European Commission states that 70 percent of allconstruction- and demolition waste (CDW) should be reused or recycled. In Sweden during theyear of 2018, 52,1 percent of the generated CDW was reused or recycled, but a report fromAvfall Sverige showed that reuse only accounted for small fractions of this. According to theEU's waste hierarchy, waste reduction followed by reuse are the most desirable ways to handlewaste. Research for how to reuse CDW is therefore considered an interesting and relevant topicfor research to help achieve the goal of the waste framework directive. The purpose of this master thesis was to further develop a Multi Criteria Analysis (MCA)model which was applied on different building components to evaluate how well suited theywere for reuse considering; (1) financial return, (2) environmental impact, (3) energyconsumption and (4) external aspects. The study was performed as a case study and the appliedmethods within the case study were interviews, a survey as well as the MCA model. To estimateaspects one to three of the MCA model, the theoretical framework consisted of a Cost BenefitAnalysis (CBA) and a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) in accordance with the European standardEN15978. The fourth aspect was evaluated with help of a survey to assess qualitativedimensions of reuse. The study concluded that there are many challenges related to reuse in demolition projects. Some major challenges identified were the limited time frames, absence of competence andexperience among actors as well as logistical challenges. According to the results from theMCA model, there is a difference in how well suited the studied components were for reuse. The two most beneficial components to reuse out of the investigated ones in the case studywere crushed concrete and aluminum doors. It was also concluded that the MCA model issuitable to apply in this component specific context.

Leighton, David Timothy Hugh. "Inside the black box : an exploration of change mechanisms in drug and alcohol rehabilitation projects." Thesis, University of Bath, 2017. https://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.723318.

Full text
Abstract:
This research addresses the question ‘How does transformative change occur in rehabilitation programmes, and how is it facilitated or constrained by contextual factors?’ The study, carried out in three community-based intensive rehabilitation projects for alcohol and drug dependent people, is designed to specify and explain change mechanisms, understood as the processes through which programme resources influence the intentional actions of participants. A critical realist theoretical frame is used, drawing on the work of Margaret Archer and John Greenwood. The study consisted of two phases: in Phase 1, fourteen client interviews and eight counsellor interviews were carried out in two treatment programmes, and these were analysed abductively to produce a set of tentative contexts, mechanisms and outcomes. Phase 2 consisted of ten theory-driven interviews (Pawson 1996) with clients in a third programme, designed to elaborate the emerging theory. An explanatory model was produced, in contexts-mechanisms-outcomes form. This showed that the institutional context of active warmth and acceptance, combined with a clear, predictable and transparent structure, allowed participants to build trust, bond with the peer group and become ready to accept and process respectful challenges to their perspective or their interpersonal behaviour. This facilitated a change in the clients’ internal conversation (Archer 2000), permitting new emotional responses and the formation of new attachments, values and commitments. The programme was seen as a place which facilitated the development of a revised personal and social identity. The study contributes to the understanding of these programmes by clarifying how participants change or fail to change. It responds to recent calls for more useful forms of evidence, to complement the sparse and equivocal experimental evidence base. The study findings have the potential to improve counsellor training and programme development.

Full text
Abstract:
The Brazilian dairy sector is characterized by a great number of producers, presenting low productivity and product quality. Concerning to quality, it is necessary the implantation of cooling systems for milk and conservation on farm. However, a low milk production level and the electric power availability on rural areas sometimes make unfeasible investments on these types of coolers. In this context, the goal of this work is to determine the best configuration of a milk cooling system for small and medium-scale dairy farms to be included in an anaerobic digestion project based on the Clean Development Mechanism of the Protocol of Kyoto. Such project is to be implemented by a company interested in commercialize the carbon credits generated. Once the project will provide to the farmer a renewable and low-cost energy resource (the biogas resulting of the anaerobic digestion), it was considered two possible sceneries: a producer that does not count on a cooling system, and a producer that may want to replace purchased electricity by a generation system based on a biogas-fueled engine to power an already existing system for milk cooling. The work analyzed several technical aspects connected to cooling system sizing, feasible configurations for supplying the cooling demand, evaluation of the consumption of the different energy inputs (electricity and biogas) of considered configurations. It was evaluated the carbon credits generation, as well as the involved economical aspects (investments, operational and maintenance costs, earnings from commercialization of carbon credits). It was also evaluated the impact of introducing the cooling system on milk production costs and values received by the producer. The analysis shows that a biogas-fueled Otto-engine electrical generator is the best configuration for a new system, and that the replacement of the electric power purchase for generation on farm is also an interesting alternative, although its payback time is relatively high for Brazilian standards.

Increasing numbers of children being referred for mental health services are exhibiting problematic behaviors that can be subsumed under the category of Disruptive Behavior Disorders. This study with its foundations in a post-positivist approach was designed to explore treatment effectiveness of cognitive behavioral intervention applied to adolescents at Oak Grove Institute, a residential treatment facility. This study hypothesized that Wexler's PRISM Model, with its integration of affect, would be instrumental in modifying disruptive behavior as measured at Oak Grove Institute. Although the small sample size precluded statistically significant findings, there were interesting results with respect to two dependant variables. Findings approached significance on measures of impulsivity and verbal aggression. That is, impulsivity and verbal aggression scores were lowered.

Examines whether the reinforcing properties of drugs of abuse were altered in adulthood by methylphenidate, more commonly known as Ritalin. Subjects were 108 rats of Sprague-Dawley descent (Harlan). Methylphenidate, or saline was administered daily to the subjects from the postnatal period (11-20 days old). The rats preference for morphine during early adulthood was measured using conditioned place preference. The number of dopamine D₂ receptors was measured in each rat and the correlation between receptor number and morphine preference was determined. Results indicate that rats pretreated with methylphenidate showed greater preference for morphine than saline pretreated rats and suggests that exposure to methylphenidate during the postnatal period increases the rewarding value of morphine.
