In recent decades, temporary work has taken on considerable proportions and is emblematic of the changes taking place in the world of work in France. As a "precarious" job, it leads to a disintegration of career paths and marks the future of temporary workers by a great deal of uncertainty. In an environment that now promotes individualism, where everyone is responsible for managing the hazards of their career path, precarious employment raises the question of the relationship that individuals maintain with their past, their current situation and their future. In this thesis, this report is understood by the concept of time perspectives. The first study (using questionnaires) of this research shows that a high level of precariousness decreases the future time extension of temporary workers and that this link is moderated by the satisfaction of the subjects with the social support they receive. The second study (using semidirected interviews) shows that the different aspects of precariousness peculiar to temporary workers influence their perceptions of their past, their present and their future according to several dimensions of the time perspectives, namely: orientation, extension, density, sharpness, realism, attitude and inter-register coherence. This second study also shows the effect of social relations (within the private sphere, the user company and the temporary employment agency) on these time dimensions. Finally, the third study (using questionnaires) defines five dimensions of precariousness relating to temporary work (the precariousness of living conditions, the precariousness of the career path, the precariousness of working conditions, the characteristics of the employment contract and the personal experience of temporary work) and shows an effect of these dimensions on the orientation and the attitude for the three time registers. This study also shows an effect of the industrial relations (within the user company and the temporary employment agency) and of the representation of the participants on these two dimensions of the time perspective. These three studies allow us to support a psychosocial approach of time perspectives by articulating inter-individual, positional and ideological variables in the study of these

The effects of temporal factors on worker's behavior are analyzed for three classes of temporal conditions : temporal requirements of the task (machine-paced work, time sharing), variability of human functionning (circadian rythmicity), interactions between time of work and off-the-job life (especially concerning shiftwork). Worker's responses to time requirements implies coordination of analyses at three levels : precise identification of situation's parameters for temporal aspects but also for psychological functions ; evaluation of importance of performance as regard time criteria and cost associated to success ; strategies of regulation used by the subject according to the balance between risks of failure and workload. Furthermore analysis of the activity under time pressure must be conducted in the frame work of the global system including work and out-of-work activities. Also social meaning of work needs effective coordination between analysis of worker behaviorin the line of man-machine system-and analysis of worker motivation concerning the activity under temporal constraints. Systematic articulation of the frameworks of ergonomics and social psychology is necessary for the progress of research on workers' response to temporal factors in work situation

Entry into working life for youth is a major social and economic problem, which has psychological repercussions on work-motivation and on the construct of occupational identity. Based on a longitudinal study of 1018 pupils before and one and half years after they obtained the diploma "bep" (brevet d'etudes professionnelles) in administration studies, we analysed the evolution of representations of work and of the self-image which form the occupational identity. Besides already recognized socio-cultural determinism, we find an interaction between the job-situation and what we call a psychological dimension of employability, composed of representations of work and of the self-image which the individual constructs from his experiences. We hence found that expectations of work-conditions and personal work involvement, indentical at the end of schooling for the "bep" diploma, thereafter vary in fonction of the job-situation. The most important result, however concerns self-esteem which not only increases withe status-quality of the job obtained but was actually significantly different at the end of schooling according to the future jobsituation. The young who had least self-confidence are those who successded least, i. E. They are frequently the unemployed or those precarious

The investigation of work and non-work activities' representations is central in view of the qualitative, quantitative and structural transformations occurring in the modern human being's life. The results indicate (1) that the relations between work and non-work structures are multi-dimensional, (2) and that different processes of causality between work and non-work activities exist in the same life space and are operating at different levels of application. The cultural appurtenance influences more the representation of non-work, whereas the appurtenance to an occupational and social class influences more the representation of work

Bolstered by its productive, normative and socialising roots, the professional world reveals, nevertheless, a fragility in the inter-relational dynamic on which it is based. It is only recently that the idea of the victim has appeared in the professional vocabulary. The victim is the result of the confrontation between a specific adverse event and an ideological and emotional construct. Our research is therefore a desire to highlight these "ordinary" victims, symbols of individual suffering, but with a result that is just as much colective. Their look stamped with emotion, offers special insight into violent experiences and constitutes a way of understanding ruptures in mental equilibrium. This process of subjectivisation, by which the victim cognitively reconstructs the situation, models their psycho-physiological reaction. Our work on this topic tends to suggest than the nature of victimisation, chronic versus acute, intentional versus instrumental, brutal and cutting versus latent and insidious, configures the consequences engendered by favouring a level of differential tolerance

Through both a cross-sectional and a longitudinal approache, the aim of this research is to yield psychosocial processes of activities transformation among young people awaiting employment and or involved in professinal precarious situations. These transformations are seized in vulnerability terms under their possible evolutions in time and refered to the system of activities model. In the cross-sectional study results show that young people aren't similary vulnerable to awaiting employment situation. The part played by significations and valuations given by subjects to their situation on psychological effects (or psychological well-being) is examined. The longitudinal approach is concerned with the psychological well-being evolutions in regard with significations and valuations expressed by young people in front of the modifications occured in their personal, social and professional situation between the two periods of the research. Finely, we suggest in conclusion how the contribution of the thesis could be used to improve training and helping practices of young people in precarious situation

This thesis focuses on job satisfaction processes and assessment. To date, imprecision persist in the job satisfaction assessment as well as in the understanding of the job satisfaction processes. Our aim is to analyse variations between assessment tools in order to question the validity of the job satisfaction models on which these tools are based. It follows a double issue. The first concerns the relation between global and facets satisfaction and the way in which facets satisfactions rise in a global attitude. We focused on composite scales (where the global level of satisfaction is inferred from the facets scores) putting into light their lack of validity. We tested two explanatory factors : the lack of facets exhaustiveness and weighting. These factors are not enough to explain the difficulty to predict global satisfaction from facets scores. Indeed, the complementary analyses we carried out highlight the existence of a moderator in the facets-global satisfaction relation. The second issue concerns the relation between satisfaction and person-job fit. We undertook to specify up to what point job satisfaction could be regarded as resulting from the fit between an individual and his environment. We showed thet the low empirical links observed in previous studies did not reflect really the satisfaction-fit relation but arise from operationalization choices, and highlighted that if indirect scales of fit did not make it possible to strongly predict job staisfaction it was possible when using a perceived fit scale on which individuals directly declare up to what point they consider their job as fulfilling their expectation

Psychic suffering and psychic disorganisation frequently observed in the case of long-term unemployed people make it possible to identify by default the functions usually kept untold by the occupational activity for the person's psychological stability. They also lead to questioning oneself about the possibility of reconstructing a psychological stability in the absence of the anaclitic object which is essential for the building and the maintenance of ego-related processes, whether these processes are defensive, narcissistic or elaborative. This reconstruction is analysed, using the psychoanalytic theoretical corpus, as being a work of mourning made particularly difficult by the convergence of unfavourable conditions: - conditions specific to the nature of the object-work relationship, - conditions inherent in the environmental support and in the form of the Ego of an unemployed person. The study mainly insists on the exclusive nature of the relationship to the occupational activity ; this exclusiveness results from the centralisation of work in our society and from its marks on our socialisation processes. It moreover highlights the strengthening of the exclusiveness through integration mechanisms which, by idealising employment, place the unemployed in the heart of paradoxical constraints opposing to the work of mourning. It finally analyses the psychological solutions found in order to get over the crisis in spite of this unfavourable context. Unemployment then appears as an occasion for psychic maturation : the subject succeeds in transferring the functions earlier held by the object-work to new activities and, thanks to this transfer, has a greater mobility in relation to the anaclitic objects. The modelization herein described makes it possible to question oneself about the support measures meant for the long-term unemployed people and which are in favour of this evolution

This research is interested in the attitudes of mind about man and world which ground the working organization principles. The first part recounts the beginnings of working rationalization (seventeenth and eighteenth centuries), when learning takes a normative dimension. The firm gradualy becomes a closed and supervised place, where the working norms are defined by engineers according to mechanical science. The normalizing process, based on mechanist reasoning, constrains bodies to realize a conformity according to which men's utility is based on physical resistance. The process increases when the firm is thought like a whole where men and machines are exactly adjusted. The second part analyses the learning changes in the twentieth-century. Henceforth, the rationalization has an action upon mental activities: the mind becomes a deductive machine processing informations. The human conformity is based on mental representations adjusting to observed reality. The firm becomes an open and complex system adapting itself to the environment. At that time, the normalizing process tries to suppress potential obstacles to flows of information: it has an effect upon individual representations. The autonomy of man at work reveals the conformity of his representations. The man becomes, at work, the vector of normalizing process
