Abstract:
In the context of modern Guatemala, the article analyzes the process of evolution and consolidation of the neocolonial model of the “banana republic,” as well as bottom-up attempts to build a counter-narrative and alternative development concept (buenvivir) from a postcolonial and transmodernist perspective. The author focuses on identification and description of divergences in the ways of discursive construction of reality by the Guatemalan oligarchy and the Maya population in areas designated for large investment projects. To this end, a comparative analysis of the discourse and practices of both sides of the conflict is carried out with respect to categories such as “power”, “territory” and “development.”

Abstract:
In this paper, I explore recent theoretical offerings on transmodernism in literature and critical studies and its appropriation and transference into the field of dance studies Through writing transmodernism in dance, I offer a model that is timely and necessary. This framework is articulated through historical trajectories focused on a case study, notably through the work of French choreographer Angelin Preljocaj. Drawing upon Annonçiation (1995), the concept of dancing /writing transmodernism reflects the epistemological values from the interstitial transference of composite/nonlinear/scaffolded texts, including the rethinking of the biblical narratives, musical textures, and corporeal/physical textures.

Abstract:
Purpose is to outline the epistemological core of metamodernism and transmodernism, defining the forms of intersection between them and clarifying A. Pavlov’s concept of post-postmodernism Methods. The typological analysis of two theories of post-postmodernism is used in the work: transmodernism and metamodernism (comparative-historical approach).Results. The author states that the concept of transmodernism has typological similarities with the concept of metamodernism; however, this aspect was not discussed in A. Pavlov’s dissertation. The crystallization of both theories became possible because of postcolonial transformations that took place in Western societies in the second half of the XX – early XXI century. It is investigated that A. Pavlov’s theoretical ideas need to be clarified in terms of outlining the specifics of contemporary culture and, in particular, literature. Metamodernism and transmodernism denote political and sociocultural tendencies that took place in Western communities in the last decades. The differences between the versions of transmodernism and metamodernism have been analyzed and the common epistemological core of both phenomena has been characterized. It is determined that the theories studied so far were perceived as antipodes, because the postcolonial specifics of both phenomena were not taken into account. The key concepts of the theories are emphasized, e. g. the integrated chaos, glocal space, monolithic thinking, etc.Conclusions. The concepts of transmodernism and metamodernism are the result of postcolonial transformations of Western societies, which led to the formation of a special paradigm that combines those concepts and phenomena that have been considered antagonistic. Transmodernism and metamodernism are not homogeneous: within them there are different versions and opposing views, which are the result of different interpretations of postmodernism and instability in views on previous cultural and historical periods. A. Pavlov’s views on metamodernism as a theory that emerged in post-postmodernism and that has the most sufficient chances for future developments is explained: today it is appropriate to spotlight several stages in the development of this theory, which has gained prospects mainly due to philological approaches and literary studies.Key words: post-postmodernism, integrated chaos, new sensuality, literary theory.

Abstract:
This paper focuses on the science fiction (SF) novel Cosmonaut Keep (2000)—first in the trilogy Engines of Light, which also includes Dark Light (2001) and Engines of Light (2002)—by the Scottish writer Ken MacLeod, and analyzes from a transmodern perspective some future warfare aspects related to forthcoming technological development, possible reconfigurations of territoriality in an expanding cluster of civilizations travelling and trading across distant solar systems, expanded cultural awareness, and space ecoconsciousness. It is my argument that MacLeod’s novel brings Transmodernism, which is characterized by a “planetary vision” in which human beings sense that we are interdependent, vulnerable, and responsible, into the future. Hereby, MacLeod’s work expands the original conceptualization of the term “Transmodernism” as defined by Rodríguez Magda, and explores possible future outcomes, showing a unique awareness of the fact that technological processes are always linked to political and power-related uses.

Abstract:
In the last years, more and more literary accounts of recent and current wars in the Middle East have been published. In most cases, they are authored from a Western viewpoint and provide a narrow account of the Muslim world. This article focuses on Sinan Antoon’s The Corpse Washer because it opens the scope. That is, it constitutes an alternative to the imagery of the American film industry. Moreover, as Antoon is a Christian, his account of contemporary Iraq is particularly peripheral and hybrid. To analyse the novel, this article makes use of Transmodernity, a concept coined by Rosa María Rodríguez Magda in 1989. Yet, instead of Magda’s Transmodernity as a neatly Euro-centric phenomenon of worldwide connectivity, Ziauddin Sardar’s version of the concept is preferred. Sardar’s Transmodernity adds to connectivity a message of reconciliation between progress and tradition, particularly in the context of non-Western cultures. This paper defends that Antoon’s novel opens the debate on Islam to challenge the prejudiced Western discourses that have ‘legitimized’ war. To do so, Sardar’s ‘borders’ and Judith Butler’s grievability are particularly useful. In a Transmodern context, novels like Antoon’s show that humans should never be bare lives.

Abstract:
The author first briefly outlines what he considers to be the defining features of transmodernism and its relationship both to postmodernism and to Marxism. He then suggests that transmodern interpretations of the legacy of the European invasions of the Americas are illuminating, as is Marxism, in providing an understanding of how the imperialism in which contemporary US foreign policy is currently engaged has a specific and long-standing genealogy. However, he argues that the Marxist concept of racialisation is more convincing in explaining the source of violence against the Other than the transmodern positing of ‘basic narcissism’ as the source. Next, he contrasts the transmodern perception of liberal democracy with Marxist analyses of democratic socialism. After this, he challenges transmodernism's conception of Marxism as an imposed and utopian philosophy locked within modernism. He concludes with a consideration of the political and economic choices open to us, and, with respect to these choices, the implications of both transmodernism and Marxism for sustaining resistance to neo-liberal capitalism and US imperialism within teacher education.

Abstract:
Globalization is the project of a new type of world empire, eliminating civilizational-state sovereignty through technicalization and virtualization of social relations, social institutions and culture, and establishing of special forms of hierarchy. In the ideological evolution of technocracy, which integrated bureaucracy and management, one can distinguish several stages, the implementation of which made it possible to replace the “state – science – technology” value triad with the “TNK – science – technology” triad. The manipulative inconsistency of the ideology of technocracy, its diversity, instrumentality and ability to transform is most clearly manifested in the framework of transmodernism as the dialectical synthesis of industrial technocracy and postmodernism, imitating the absence of coherent ideology and system of goals.

Abstract:
This article analyzes a near-contemporaneous incidence of post-painterly practice—the use of raw pigment—utilized by the French neo—avant—garde artist Yves Klein and the Brazilian artist Hélio Oiticica. The use of raw pigment by both artists was conditioned by a self—conscious relationship to the history of modernist art and the monochrome as a limit and origin of painting. Despite the confluence of such orientations, Klein's pigments purs (pure pigments) and Oiticica's corpo da côr (body of color) resulted in radically divergent orientations toward the industrially produced commodity and hence the readymade. By exploiting inconsistencies characteristic of the commodity in developmentalist Brazil, Oiticica orchestrated a transfer of making from artist to viewer, initiating a newly participatory dimension within modernist color.

Abstract:
Arcadia (1992), Jim Crace’s most distinctively urban novel, bears the idiosyncratic features of its author’s writing: it is a deceptively simple story of vague geographical and historical setting conceived as a parable of the current world concerns, it portrays a community in a transitional moment of its existence, and it places special emphasis on spatial representations of its fictitious environment which assume metaphorical properties that convey the story’s rich ideas. Moreover, as a writer focusing on moral issues with a leftist political outlook, Crace has been consistent in his criticism of the neoliberal market economy and its negative impacts on communal values, a view which is also voiced in the novel. This paper makes use of the theoretical premises of Transmodernism as well as analytical tools of phenomenologically focused geocriticism to demonstrate that Arcadia can be subsumed within so-called transmodern fiction. This critique of globalized capitalism is carried out through sites Eric Prieto terms as the entre-deux, the in-between. Accordingly, the paper attempts to demonstrate how the novel’s liminal and heterogeneous places display non-linear and complexly interrelated temporalities which are indicative of their role within the city’s progress.

Abstract:
Summary The article focuses on Enrique Dussel's Philosophy of Liberation, with the aim of reflecting on the articulation between modernity, the Eurocentric paradigm and the world paradigm. In this sense, the article develops the discussion on rationality and irrationality of modernity (myth of modernity) and its transmodernity (overcoming), as it is directly related to the question of the negative dialectical method with the negation of otherness - of indigenous populations - in philosophical systems. Eurocentric totality and points out the analytical movement as overcoming, expanding and liberating the negative dialectical method. It also outlines the intercultural philosophy of Rául Fornet-Betancourt, which aims at a symmetrical dialogue between philosophical knowledge. It is inferred, from the Liberation of the Other as Alterity and Interculturality, the concrete existence of a dialogical relationship between philosophical knowledge, enabling greater cosmological, philosophical and educational enrichment, as well as the teaching of intercultural philosophy in indigenous schools. In this study, the bibliographic review is the methodological strategy used.

After discussing the notion of the complex normal, the article suggests that what lies at the other end of postnormal times is best seen as the domain of the transnormal: over and beyond capitalism and neoliberalism, modernity, and postmodernism, almost most of what we can possibly conceive as normal or “the new normal.” The route to a transnormal world is a process of systematic movement leading to transposition: acts of changing relationships, structures, and values that interactively and collectively relocate humanity to a trans, or stable, state or realm of existence. The article suggests that we use the concepts of transmodernity and mutually assured diversity as tools to navigate toward the transnormal and our way out of postnormal times.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Starting from a consideration of the contrasting views on the reading and teaching of English literature held by Ranjan Ghosh and J. Hillis Miller in Thinking Literature across Continents, the essay draws a parallel between Ghosh's Eastern definition of literature through it ‘uselessness’ and that of the Western visionary tradition stemming from Plato and further developed by the Romantic poets as a counter-textual movement against Enlightenment rationalism. From this, it goes on to relate the value of literature to the mimetic function and to argue that, although there is a general impression that we are currently living in a post-literary age, literature is in fact developing a plethora of new forms, genres and modes that proves its intrinsic capacity to adapt to the changing demands of the successive dominant paradigms. It concludes by suggesting that this adaptability of literature is paralleled by a similar evolution and diversification of critical approaches, and that at present there are signs of a worldwide change of sensibility heralding a paradigm shift from postmodernity to transmodernity.

Abstract:
In addition to providing longevity, Modernity brought the imposition of productivity and socialization standards. The present study aimed at thinking about the reflexes of Modernity/Coloniality to human aging. It was carried out an exploratory research with a literature review. Conceptual aspects and issues arising from the Modernity/Coloniality crisis were addressed, which indicates a homogenizing epistemology; dilemma about the (non) place of the elderly; and concepts of Transmodernity and decolonial thinking. It was evident that the elderly person is neglected, being seen as a stigmatized subject and prone to suffer from loneliness and rejection, considered useless to productivist mechanisms, which leads to occupy a non-place in society. It is concluded that it is necessary to think and act in the light of Transmodenity and Decoliality, so that a pluriverse look at aging can be glimpsed in order to break with the reflections of Modernity/Coloniality and it emerges the attention to the formulation, implementation and evaluation of concrete actions that enable the exercise of citizenship for the elderly.

Abstract:
It seems that in order to overcome the current ecological crisis we need a new (global?) narrative. If the narrative of “progress” that has functioned as one of the Western cultural myths is linked to the notions of modernity and Enlightenment, then perhaps we need a new vision of modernity and “enlightenment.” This change might become part of a paradigm shift associated with a new view of ecology and the natural world, as proposed by Thich Nhat Hanh, the father of engaged Buddhism in the West. This paper aims to show how Gary Snyder and Kenneth White, two like-minded world-renowned poets and environmental activists, contribute to a new cultural paradigm: transmodernity. The non-dualism and Eastern philosophy that White and Snyder find valuable represent a rejection of Western modernity, and its cult of progress and telos. The emphasis will be placed on the importance of the Hua-Yen Buddhist philosophy, centred upon the metaphor of “Indra’s net,” and the ways in which it informs Snyder’s and White’s writing and Earth-centred activism. Snyder’s Buddhist anarchism is nowadays, more than ever before, intertwined with deep ecology. White’s radical geopoetics is becoming more and more popular, showing that the paradigm is shifting. As I will argue, the impact of “Indra’s net” on the dynamics of this gradual process is undeniable.

Abstract:

ABSTRACT: The unplugged cities, in the age of Supermodernity, lead us to discuss the term informational mobility in this article, aiming at denaturalizing it and bringing up underlying adversities to this new manner of subjectivation, individuation and mobility. In order to succeed in this hermeneutic and investigative process, the literature review will be used as methodological procedure, based on the following authors: Lemos (2007a, 2007b, 2008, 2009), Rivière (2006) and Tuan (2003). The intention is not only to discuss the implications between mobility and mass communication, the configuration process and informational territory’s reconfiguration, but also to empower the co-enunciator to become a “bricoleur” of the transmodernity, make possible to discuss the concept of identity in the contemporary society and, thus, to resignify his look at the time he is part of, collaborating in the building process of new ways of establishing links and the belonging feeling. Abstract:
This paper focuses on Charlotte Wood’s 2015 dystopian novel The Natural Way of Things. Set in an unnamed place in the Australian outback, it recounts the story of 10 girls in their late teens and early twenties who are kept prisoners by a mysterious corporate organisation for their sexual involvement with an array of powerful men. The novel’s title invites two main readings: the first, and perhaps more obvious, along gender lines; and the second, which will provide the backbone to my analysis, within the framework of the natural world, the animal kingdom in particular. The Natural Way of Things has been described as a study in contemporary misogyny and the workings of patriarchy. The ingrained sexism of society—the insidious, normalised violence against females, often blamed on them, glossing over male responsibility—is undoubtedly the central topic of Wood’s work. Without losing sight of gender issues, my approach to Wood’s novel is inspired by Rosi Braidotti’s posthuman theories on the continuum nature–culture and the primacy of zoe—“the non-human, vital force of life”—over bios, or life as “the prerogative of Anthropos” (Rosi Braidotti). According to Braidotti, the current challenges to anthropocentrism question the distinction between these two forms of life, highlighting instead the seamless connection between the natural world and culture and favouring a consideration of the subject as embodied, nomadic and relational. My reading of The Natural Way of Things in light of Braidotti’s insights will be supplemented by an analysis of the novel in the context of transmodernity, both a period term and a distinct way of being in the world theorised by critics such as Rosa M. Rodríguez Magda and Marc Luyckx, who emphasise the relational, interdependent nature of contemporary times from a more human-centred perspective. The Natural Way of Things is also a story of female empowerment. This is especially the case with Yolanda Kovacs and Verla Learmont, the two protagonist women, who step out of their roles as victims and stand up to their guards. My analysis of the novel will revolve around these two characters and their different reactions to confinement and degradation. I conclude that although a more zoe-centred conception of the human subject that acknowledges the human–animal continuum should definitely be welcomed, literally “becoming animal”, as Yolanda does, deprives one of meaningful human relationality, embodied in the novel in Verla’s memories of her caring, empathic relationship with her father.

Abstract:
Two conceptual categories are presented that support possibilities for the search for the epistemological identity of Organizational Studies: Transmodernity and the disciplinary matrix. The category of Transmodernity as a possibility of integration and at the same time of the disappearance of the borders between qualitative and quantitative research emanating from logical positivism and the term of Disciplinary Matrix. These two elements allow us to continue with the project called Epistemological Conciliation of Organizational Studies. Literature is presented that provides arguments for an emerging and significant paradigm shift inhuman and organizational evolution. Bourdieu and Luhmann are taken up again and in the second moment, theoretical bodies are presented, such as the paradigm of transmodernity proposed by Ghisi; the transmodern philosophy of political liberation proposed by Dussel; Magda's Hegelian dialectical triad of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis, as well as Kuhn's Disciplinary Matrix and Lakatos's Scientific Research Programs. It is argued that the reason why the so-called Organizational Studies are not hearing more about the emerging sociocultural, economic, political and philosophical change described by these authors is an apparent cause: the absence of epistemic identity.

By the end of the 1960s, most colonies had become independent nations. However, the resulting changes in the world order have done little to modify the ‘colonial’ attitudes of universities in the Western world. This article is a personal, reflexive account of an India-born doctoral researcher in Belgium. Like universities around the world, KU Leuven, the university where the author conducted her research, plays a key role in what Michel Rolph Troulliot calls ‘the production of history’. Hired by the Department of History to research the role of missionaries in education in independent India, she discusses her struggle to decolonise ‘knowledge production’ – not only due to the university’s Eurocentrism during the pandemic, but also because of the ivory tower approach that the author had to take towards her research.
