Full textOur aim was to study the issue of literary translation when it is carried into the B language of the translator (here from Korean to French) with the assistance of a co-translator native speaker of the target language and to point out the conditions of success. In the field of literary translation from Korean into French, this kind of team-work aims at overcoming the lack of French translators able to produce literary standard translations by themselves. When the translation is done by a Korean translator working into his B language, a thorough work of editing and rewriting is required due to the formal requirements of literary writing. An increasing number of Korean novels and short stories are translated by such a dual team and published in France. We analyze the different steps of the process of translation, from understanding to reformulation in the light of the Interpretive Theory of Translation, trying to show why the key concept of “de-verbalization” makes co-translation justifiable, translation being defined as an operation from text to text not from language to language. The first part of our research is devoted to the theoretical aspects of our study (definition of some key notions, mainly of the Interpretive Theory of Translation) and its practical aspects (general survey of translated Korean literary works into French). In the second part, we analyze a large number of our translation samples with the objective of showing the sort of dialog the translator and her co-translator entertain, and underlining the nature of guidance proposed by the first one to second one and the contribution of the last one.Our conclusion is that, thanks to this dual-team process, often wrongly considered as a lesser evil, we are able to produce quality literary translation provided that the method implemented takes into account the conditions we describe here

Full textThe following work contains four chapters: the first one is centered around the weak mixing property for interval exchange transformations and translation flows. It is based on the results obtained together with Artur Avila which strengthen previous results due to Artur Avila and Giovanni Forni. The second chapter is dedicated to a joint work with Zhiyuan Zhang, in which we study the properties of stable ergodicity and accessibility for partially hyperbolic systems with center dimension at least two. We show that for dynamically coherent partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms and under certain assumptions of center bunching and strong pinching, the property of stable accessibility is dense in C^r topology, r>1, and even prevalent in the sense of Kolmogorov. In the third chapter, we explain the results obtained together with Julie Déserti on the properties of a one-parameter family of polynomial automorphisms of C^3; we show that new behaviours can be observed in comparison with the two-dimensional case. In particular, we study the escape speed of points to infinity and show that a transition exists for a certain value of the parameter. The last chapter is based on a joint work with Jiangong You, Zhiyan Zhao and Qi Zhou; we get asymptotic estimates on the size of spectral gaps for quasi-periodic Schrödinger operators in the analytic case. We obtain exponential upper bounds in the subcritical regime, which strengthens a previous result due to Sana Ben Hadj Amor. In the particular case of almost Mathieu operators, we also show exponential lower bounds, which provides quantitative estimates in connection with the so-called "Dry ten Martinis problem". As consequences of our results, we show applications to the homogeneity of the spectrum of such operators, and to Deift's conjecture

Our main question is ``Does there exist a hypercyclic weighted translation operator on locally compact groups?''. In this article, we give several equivalent characterization of aperiodicity of an element on locally compact group. If a is an aperiodic element, we show that there exists a frequently hypercyclic weighted translation T_{a,w}. If a is a periodic element, we give necessary conditions of hypercyclic weighted translation T_{a,w}.

In the storage systems of NAND flash memory, an intermediate software called a Flash Translation Layer (FTL) is adopted to hide the characteristics of NAND flash memory and provide efficient management for NAND flash memory. Current flash translation layers can be classified into page-mapping FTLs, block-mapping FTLs, and hybridmapping FTLs. In order to utilize the advantages of page-mapping FTLs and block-mapping FTLs, hybrid-mapping FTLs are proposed to store data to the appropriate mapping mechanism by switch the mapping information between the page-mapping mechanism and the block-mapping mechanism. In the thesis, we purpose a joint operation mechanism to utilize the advantages of the page-mapping FTLs, the block-mapping FTLs, and the hybrid-mapping FTLs. With the joint operation mechanism, flash translation layers can consider the main memory requirements, improve the system performance, and reduce the garbage collection overhead. The experimental results show that the proposed joint operation mechanism can achieve the goal under realistic workloads and benchmarks.

Helicopter operator’s manuals, containing details of aircraft systems and other information relevant to the operation of an aircraft, are the most important references for pilots. The English-language manuals for each type of ROC Army helicopters have been translated into Chinese to facilitate more effective flight trainings. However, these translations tend to be done by training instructors, most of whom lack relevant language skills sets and expertise. This has led to over-translation, mistranslation, omissions and other quality issues. Yet, very little attention has been paid to translation issues of the manuals even though many trainees rely on the translations. This study adopts interview as the research method to learn about the translation process of the Army helicopter operator’s manuals and the effect of translations on flight training. Participants were 3 translators and 7 users of the army helicopter operator’s manuals. Questions during the interview were mostly open-ended to grant participants the opportunity to voice opinions in their own words and to express views from their own perspectives. Results of the study suggest that translators encountered difficulties during the translation process due to the tight deadline, lack of translation skills or insufficient domain knowledge, which created some quality problems of the translation. Furthermore, quality problems of the operator’s manual translation have negatively affected flight training. For example, the use of mistranslated terminologies and commands can lead to communications between instructor and trainee, posing a risk to flight safety. However, the production of professionally and accurately translated operator’s manuals has not been a priority within Army Aviation. It is hoped that the findings of this exploratory study can call attention to the military to value the proper translation of helicopter operator’s manuals. To conclude, measures must be taken to improve the professionalism of translators and to assure the quality of the translations in order to increase the effectiveness, efficiency, safety and sustainability of the Army helicopter flight training.
