Full textThe Mouride community of Senegal and the diaspora is a socioreligious group that arose in rural areas, and that possesses a traditional culture based on religious practice. The brotherhood become community, from its earliest days, showed a capacity for adaptation in contexts hostile to its progress, but also manifested a significant openness, while maintaining its essential principles. All of which conferred on the Mourides a particular character within the context of the Muslim brotherhoods of Senegal and of Africa generally. This particularity resides in Mouridism’s simultaneous fidelity to its own Islamic principles and to a perpetual openness to other cultures and other spaces. The evolution of the community led to its occupation of new urban spaces and, as a corollary, to the adoption of digital media in the service of certain traditional practices. The research proposed here seeks to develop an understanding of the traditional and mediatic practices of the Mourides and the metamorphoses effected within the brotherhood. Initially, we interrogate the different mechanisms of the Mouride tradition and subsequent changes; then, the circulation of texts, i.e. the evolution of the technical supports of Mouride writing and literature across different spaces; and finally, the resulting transformations by media of the means of participation and communication within the community. This study of Mouridism allows us to delineate and understand the mechanisms of religious, traditional, cultural, et media practices across varied spaces and contexts. The study of this socioreligious group brings to light a number of significant points related to the emergence of a strong community, i.e. the long term construction of very specific social ties. These result in the development, transmission, and adoption of shared conceptions of knowledge and belief as well as the adoption of ritual systems and protocols of communication based on shared and assured social conventions. Networked communications have lead to mediatic transformations that reveal a reappropriation by Mourides through a variety of digital media systems. These symbolize the community’s reorientation toward new media practices that assure more rapid access to content. These media transformations have made possible new modes of participation and have suggested the possibility of new relationships between the disciple and his community

Full textBased on the analysis of the appropriation of a media, this thesis questions the symbolic (re)configurations of professional magazines in communication. The objective is to analyze to what extent a media format (the “magazine-book”) contributes to the redefinition of a professional field by questioning its boundaries. To demonstrate that, the thesis asserts that the professional review institutes the practices of its socio-professional group, which opens the discussion on the status and function of this specialized territory. Agent of visibility, this informational space needs nonetheless to continuously legitimize itself. Using this current format of the review constitutes an attempt to overcome those tensions. It allows to leverage the vagueness of both this format function and communication professions. It also allows to establish and defend one’s positioning, as it is observed in the light of a competitive landscape analysis at the heart of the study. The support and the format become valorization tools, recognition substitutes and distinction drivers. From this perspective, this research studies an illustration, among others, of a communicational claim. The duet of knowledge and power will be transversal in this demonstration, because the observed escape is a tactical move to seize symbolic power, both in direction of the margins of the profession and its core. Ultimately, the focus of this thesis is to analyze the construction of intellectual devices, aiming at being legitimate and dominant representatives, by continuously redefining the professional and the communicational

Full textThe rise of journalism at an industrial scale from the XIXth century was mainly based upon the economic alliance between several interests and investments sources, and which are now challenged in the digital economy context. This research aims at contributing to a better understanding of the contemporary transformations of this practice of discursive production, together with changes taking place within media organizations as well as strategies and discourses at stake. In both France and Quebec, this research focus on two media groups, Ouest-France and Québecor, notably involved in newspapers, and confronted with digital issues since the mid-1990s. Both business models and stakeholders interests are changing, while journalism does not manage to ensure economic independence. Its subordination position is somewhat reinforced through models and apparatuses gradually rolled out. This ongoing transformation is built through both organizational changes and discourse. This doctoral research was based on cross-Empirical approaches, using document analysis within and around the two groups, as well as discourse analysis. The latter was based in particular on interviews with executives, managers and information workers. This research design and the junction of these approaches reveal that the transformation of journalism and its economy appears not as mere goal to com, but as a process already at work. By leaving some records and traces, covered by this doctoral work, this transformation builds as well upon investments and discourses

Quemener, Nelly. "Le pouvoir de l’humour : Politiques de représentations dans les sketches télévisuels en France. De Coluche à nos jours, transformation de la figure du comique en humoriste et montée des groupes subalternes." Thesis, Paris 3, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010PA030120.
Full textThis thesis deals with the emergence of subaltern groups in mainstream television, from Coluche until today. It focuses on two groups, female humorists and ethnic minorities. It questions the agency of humour and its power of displacement of hegemonic media representations, as well as the state of discourses at the moment of the appearance of subaltern groups. It articulates the transformation of comedian into humorist. The buffoon of the late 1970s stands for the figure of contestation of a centralized power, which it comments with a critical gaze. The growth of individualism and expressions of identities turn the comedian into a humorist that assumes a role of actor of the world and a subjective gaze. The analysis of sketches in television talk shows reveals that female humorists expose multiple subjectivities and destabilize the binary system masculine-feminine, by resorting to body acts as parts of humoristic mechanisms. Humorists from ethnic minority groups denounce discriminations and perform hybrid bodies and identities that destabilize the republican model of integration. Their appropriation of stand-up comedy genre renews in 2006 the staging of diversity and of the multiple territories of identities. The period 2007-2010 shows a counter-offensive, a backlash that marks the return to dominant values in the field of humour and denies to subaltern groups the advantages they’ve gained during the previous period. It is characterized by a renewal of humour based on news comments and caricatures, by the hegemonic power of masculine white humorists and the eviction of identity politics
