Abstract:
People’s health beliefs and practices are affected by the culture in which they exist. In this sense; it is essential that nurses who experience the most interactions with health buyers/receivers and deliver health care services to those who have different cultures should know health related cultural beliefs and practices of those to whom they deliver health services in order to offer an effective and productive care. In this respect; transcultural nursing term emerges. Besides; as known, health-disease practices and needs of individuals who live in different cultures may be different. In this sense; it is necessary for nurses to respect for others’ cultural beliefs and to deliver nursing care by knowing and paying attention to their cultures because people’s cultural beliefs and practices are very significant in that nurses give a holistic care. Abstract:
Purpose: This study presents the current status of transcultural nursing education in nursing baccalaureate programs. Methods: The nursing curricula from 185 out of 194 nursing colleges that received accreditation were collected and analyzed. Results: 109 (58.9%) nursing colleges offered 117 transcultural nursing-related courses. The courses were offered as elective (68.4%) as well as major (78.6%) courses. All courses were offered as a theoretical delivery class without any field experiences. The courses were offered mainly for sophomore (41.9%) and freshman students (33.3%), and most of them (79.5%) were two-credit courses. Instead of the term "transcultural nursing," "multicultural nursing" is mostly used in the title of courses. An inconsistency between the title of courses and their content was found. After analyzing the title of courses based on four nursing meta-paradigms, courses related to the environment were most common (41.9%). Conclusion: Transcultural nursing education has developed during the last decade. However, teaching methods and course content have not developed enough. Thus, a greater effort is needed to increase awareness of the importance of transcultural nursing education and to develop courses for it.

Abstract:
Background: Differences in interpreting the term ‘transcultural’ in nursing practice need to be addressed. Inappropriate terminology in the nursing practice environment may impact the quality of health care. Objective: The aim of this research is to identify the meaning of transcultural in concepts and theories and its relationship to the practice of the nursing profession. Methods: This paper was designed for Walker and Avant concept analysis. Reputable articles from indexing databases were used for review. “Transcultural” AND “Transcultural Nursing Practice” were the two key concepts used in the literature search. The inclusion criteria for articles to be retrieved were determined by the authors with high rigor. Then, an organizing framework was formulated using Walker and Avant’s conceptual analysis method. Results: Antecedents, attributes, and consequences are inferred from the keywords or sentences in each article. The antecedents in this study include immigrants, acculturation, immigration, emigration, cultural diversity, cultural competence, interpersonal caring, transcultural nursing, and cross-cultural comparisons. The attributes in this study encompass cultural exchange, overcoming obstacles, research development, changes to standards and operating procedures. The consequences of the transcultural concept for nursing practice include its impact on organizations, patients/clients, and nurses. Conclusions: We suggest that healthcare professional thoroughly comprehend transcultural concepts in nursing practice in order to effectively apply transcultural approaches in nursing practice. This is one way to improve the quality of healthcare services.

Abstract:
Awareness of culture and transculturally oriented care is becoming increasingly important as the world becomes closer, more complex and multicultural, so there is a need to bring into focus the interests and practical application of all health professionals. In order to improve the health-oriented behavior of members of different cultural groups, and thus prevent the occurrence of negative conflicts and destructive behavior there is a need to develop transcultural nursing around the world and also in Serbia. Global trends in terms of migratory change, imply the need to change the current practice in education and application of transcultural nursing among nurses in order to improve the quality of health care in Serbia and thus achieve equality in the provision of culturally congruent health care.
