The automation degree of railway control systems is constantly increasing. Railway industry needs the enhanced level of safety and reliability guarantee to replace the drivers by Automatic Train Control (ATC) systems. However, the system complexity is also heavily increased by the integration of automatic functions, which has caused the difficulty to analyze these systems.Different modeling methods can be used to build the system models at the appropriate level of abstraction. Formal modeling methods and formal verification methods can provide crucial support to ensure safety and reliability properties. Petri Nets are a suitable tool for modeling and verifying critical systems such as automatic train control systems. In this thesis, we use more specifically Colored Petri Nets (CPNs) to exploit modularity and hierarchization for the modeling and verification of a large-scale system

Collisions and deadlocks are unwanted situations in many transport applications such as railway systems. Control synthesis methods can assure that a closed-loop system cannot lead to deadlock situations. Methods issued from the historical approach of Ramadge and Wonham allow dealing with this issue but encounter the problem of combinatorial explosion, that prevents its use on large systems. In the case of deadlock avoidance, the majority of approaches are based on the assumption of total controllability and observability. However, this assumption is not verified in all kinds of systems. This thesis proposes control synthesis methods that do not suffer from the combinatorial explosion. These methods are based on the formalism of Petri nets and uniquely concern classes of resource allocation systems. In a way to not resort to state exploration, these methods identify deadlock situations by resolving a mixed integer programming problem. These methods are then used for routing trains in a railway node. A systematic modeling approach of the trains' circulations in a railway node is developed. The model obtained is a Petri net for resources allocation system. To avoid collisions and deadlocks in the model, a control synthesis method, based on the theoretical background developed, is proposed

This thesis contributes to the collaborative project "Train de Fret Autonome'' led by the SNCF and aims to control autonomous freight trains in order to guarantee reliable and safe autonomous driving in all environmental conditions. In this context, our contributions concern the development of estimators for accurately reconstructing the train position and longitudinal speed under variable wheel-rail adhesion conditions. The major difficulty arises from the fact that on-board odometric sensors provide a measurement of wheel rotation at axle level, but do not directly detect the phenomenon of wheel slippage, resulting in inaccurate estimation of the longitudinal speed of the train. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to make a precise recalibration using the position of the train measured by radio beacons installed on the rail. Nevertheless, this measurement is discrete with a variable sampling period. One of the challenges is to consider train measurements that combine both continuous and aperiodically sampled measurements. Thus, the main theoretical contribution of this thesis is the design of a continuous-discrete observer for a class of multi-input/multi-output systems with continuous noisy outputs and aperiodically sampled outputs. This observer is designed to meet the specifications of the "Autonomous Freight Train" project, in order to estimate train speed under variable adhesion conditions. The performance of this observer is shown in simulation and compared with other approaches to train speed estimation, then validated experimentally via an experimental test program carried out at the Centre d'Essai Ferroviaire of Tronville-en-Barrois

This work concerns the design of a supervision system applied to autonomous electric vehicle. Two based model monitoring methods are developed using the nonlinear model of electric vehicle: The first is based on multiple observers to detect and to isolate faults. The second approach is the generation of nonlinear analytical redundancy relations (nonlinear parity space). In addition to the generation of residuals by the method of parity space, differential sliding mode observers are integrated to estimate the successive derivatives of inputs and outputs. To make a train of three vehicles, a longitudinal control (control of the safety space) based on measuring the distance between vehicles is developed. The lateral control is based on a reference path tracking imposed for all vehicles. A steering command is then calculated based on the difference between the measured and the desired trajectory. Finally, some strategies are developed for the reconfiguration of the train of vehicles. The principle of the reconfiguration is the choice of strategy for the train of vehicles according to kind of detected fault

The problem of speed sensorless control of induction machine is a well-studied problem in the field of automatic control and electrical engineering. This work addresses the problem of the feasibility of induction machine control over the whole speed range and for any type of induction machine, aiming at being used in a railway application. An intensive study of observability has defined a continuous quantitative measurement of the speed observability, named observability index. An observer was developped to confirme the correspondence between low-observability index areas and poor observation quality. The observability index defined in this thesis is thus a way to predict the observation performance of systems. The main originality of the work presented in this thesis is the use of this observability index in the induction machine speed sensorless drive. By taking advantage of the degree of freedom given by the variation of the flux amplitude, we propose to guarantee the observability index value above a given threshold while respecting the other constraints of the control. The speed observation becomes precise over the entire speed range, and a long time operation is possible on any point, without interfering with torque regulation. Experiments on real-time simulator confirm these results, including when slipping and sliding occurs. The electrical parameter observation is also studied to ensure the accuracy of speed observation. For this, the sensitivity of the speed observation to electrical parameter variations and the observability of these parameters are studied, leading to the definition of the electrical parameter observation strategy. The testings on power bench, and in real application on a regional train, validate the performance of the speed sensorless drive proposed on the entire speed range, and its suitability to the constraints of a railway application

Currently, Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) are considered to be a critical part of the future vehicle industry. This is because they allow for decreased fuel consumption and emissions without a decline in performance. HEVs are composed of two or more power sources and can be arranged in various topologies. In this thesis, a series-parallel architecture is chosen for military and garbage trucks. The studied HEVs contain a Double Planetary Geartrain as a Power Split Device (PSD), which makes the system very intricate and complex. Therefore, in this thesis, modeling of studied HEVs with a PSD is done. Later, through the assistance of Energetic Macroscopic Representation (EMR) it is graphically represented and local control structure for both vehicles are deduced. This dissertation also addresses the problem of managing energy of multiple energy sources for the studied HEVs. The Energy Management Strategy (EMS) in application to HEVs encompasses several different disciplines and challenges. Primarily, the challenges lies in managing the energy expenditure, determining the proportional power splits and establishing methods to interface between the systems so as to meet the demands of the vehicle propulsion and other load requirements. In this work, an attempt has been made to provide a new organization of EMS by decomposition in 3 explicit levels for studied vehicles i.e. military and garbage truck
