Abstract:
Driven by the high social costs and emotional trauma that result from traffic accidents around the world, research into understanding the factors that influence accident occurrence is critical. There is a lack of consensus about how the management of congestion may affect traffic accidents. This paper aims to improve our understanding of this relationship by analysing accidents at 120 intersections in Adelaide, Australia. Data comprised of 1629 motor vehicle accidents with traffic volumes from a dataset of more than five million hourly measurements. The effect of rainfall was also examined. Results showed an approximately linear relationship between traffic volume and accident frequency at lower traffic volumes. In the highest traffic volumes, poisson and negative binomial models showed a significant quadratic explanatory term as accident frequency increases at a higher rate. This implies that focusing management efforts on avoiding these conditions would be most effective in reducing accident frequency. The relative risk of rainfall on accident frequency decreases with increasing congestion index. Accident risk is five times greater during rain at low congestion levels, successively decreasing to no elevated risk at the highest congestion level. No significant effect of congestion index on accident severity was detected.

Abstract:
This article suggests a model for many road accidents, namely, those in which a vehicle being driven forwards encounters an obstacle such as a pedestrian, a vehicle, or a tree. An equation for speed of impact is obtained from the model. (Speed of impact is very important in determining severity of injury.) The equation is an expression in five variables. As it is elementary, it will be of interest to educators in mathematics and other subjects, as well as to road safety specialists. Two of the five variables (speed of vehicle, and distance of the obstacle) are conditions existing at the initiation of the emergency; and three are approximately termed: range of the sensing system; reaction time; and deceleration; and are properties of the system of driver and vehicle. Thus the focus is on the moment the emergency is appreciated, a few seconds before impact. The model and equation may be relevant to some railway accidents, also. In addition, the article discusses how to push our understanding to a point some seconds earlier, in the hope of throwing light on accident causation. References T. P. Hutchinson. Abstract:
Penelitian ini masuk kedalam kategori fair classification (cukup).Traffic accidents are events that cannot be predicted with certainty and can result in casualties, minor injuries, serious injuries, or material losses such as valuable objects. This problem occurs throughout the world, including South Australia which is one of the regions in Australia. It is recorded that the area had a total of 4,953 casualties in 2018. Therefore an analysis is needed to anticipate the accident so that it does not happen again with the same factors. One solution to this problem is the classification method needed to classify the factors that affect traffic accidents. The classification method used for data processing is the Decision Tree method. The method for class imbalance problems uses the method of Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique (SMOTE). For the process of increasing evaluation in this study using the Knowledge Discovery in Database (KDD) process. The test was carried out with three model designs namely Split Validation Decision Tree and SMOTE model design obtained an accuracy of 69.23%. Testing using Cross Validation Decision Tree and SMOTE obtained an accuracy of 63.56%. Testing using the Decision Tree and SMOTE Split Data obtained an accuracy 71.12% with ratio of 1:9. So, after the three design models are compared, the split Decision Tree and SMOTE Split Data gets the best accuracy. Also, a precision of 89.71% (3:7) and area under curve (AUC) were obtained of 0.773 (1:9). This research belongs to the fair classification category.

Abstract:
Kangaroo–vehicle collisions are frequent on Australian highways. Despite high economic costs, detrimental effects on animal welfare, and potential impacts on population viability, little research has been done to investigate the impact of road mortality on kangaroo populations, where and why accidents occur, and how the collisions can be mitigated. We therefore collected data on species (Macropus rufus, M. giganteus, M. fuliginosus, M. robustus), sex and age of kangaroos killed on a 21.2-km bitumenised section of outback highway over 6 months in far western New South Wales, Australia. The spatial and temporal distribution of road-killed kangaroos was investigated in relation to the cover and quality of road-side vegetation, road characteristics, the density of kangaroos along the road, climatic variables and traffic volume. A total of 125 kangaroos were found killed on the road at a rate of 0.03 deaths km–1 day–1. Grey kangaroos of two species (M. giganteus, M. fuliginosus) were under-represented in the road-kill sample in comparison with their proportion in the source population estimated during the day. No bias towards either sex was found. The age structure of road-killed kangaroos was similar to age structures typical of source kangaroo populations. Road-kills mainly occurred in open plains country. In road sections with curves or stock races, road-kill frequencies were higher than expected. Greater cover and greenness of roadside vegetation at the verge probably attracted kangaroos to the road and variation in this vegetation affected the spatial distribution of road-kills. The temporal distribution of road-kills was positively correlated with the volume of night-time traffic. The probability of a kangaroo–vehicle collision increased exponentially with traffic volume. Results are discussed in relation to the potential for mitigation of kangaroo–vehicle collisions.

Abstract:
The present study aimed to estimate the trend in road traffic injury mortality in older adults (60 years of age or older) and comparison with those <60 years of age in Ecuador (1990-2018). Official death records and population projections were used to calculate mortality rates per 100,000 population, rate ratios, years of potential life lost (YPLL), and trends. Those under 60 years of age had mortality rates of 16.7 (per 100,000) compared to 36.2 (per 100,000) for older adults, with an increasing trend in YPLL. Older adults recorded fewer deaths than the younger population. However, it is necessary to develop road safety strategies oriented to the progressive aging of the Ecuadorian population. Abstract:
Although the tradition of placing signs at places where people have died in road accidents has relatively recently become the object of research in cultural geography, social anthropology, and folklore, many aspects of it have already been well studied by scientists in Europe, North America, Canada, Australia, and others. Thanks to their works, not only the specifics of this tradition in the modern socio-cultural life of society are established, but also national, ethnic, and regional features are revealed. Since the 90s of the twentieth century, this tradition has been actively developing in Russia, but the development of its domestic science began only in the 2010s. Therefore, many aspects are still poorly understood. Among them are the connection of tradition with the peculiarities of the road traffic situation on the highways, the degree of development of tradition in different periods, the typology of memorial signs by material and design, their regional features, etc. The article uses the material obtained as a result of field research in 2013, 2014, 2020 and 2021 on the federal highways passing through the territory of three national republics - Tatarstan, Chuvashia and Mordovia - A 151 (Shemursha - Tsivilsk), R241 (Chipmunks - Lesnye Morkvashi), R178 (Saransk - Surskoye), as well as the study of these highways using photos of Google.Maps for 2014 and 2018, highlights the features of this tradition in this territory, and attempts to determine possible solutions to some of these problems, some directions of its further research are also formulated.

Abstract:
Frequent and serious traffic accidents have become a focal issue because they hinder the sustainable development of society. In China, roadside accidents account for 40% of fatalities resulting from traffic accidents. Roadside safety has become an important issue of traffic management departments worldwide, and performing research on roadside safety contributes to improving the level of road safety and reducing the number of traffic accidents and fatalities. By systematically sorting a large number of relevant studies, this paper analyzed the current development trends of roadside safety in terms of three aspects (i.e., the year of publication, the country of publication, and the source of publication) and then summarized the research status, existing gaps, and future development directions of roadside safety in terms of three aspects: the frequency of roadside accidents, the severity of roadside accidents, and the practice of roadside safety design. This paper reviewed the different prediction methods and evaluation models for the frequency and severity of roadside accidents. According to the number of times mentioned in the literature, the first five significant risk factors that cause frequent roadside accidents are small-radius curves, heavy traffic, objects adjacent to the lane (such as poles and trees), narrow lanes, and narrow shoulders, and the first five significant risk factors that cause fatal roadside accidents are driver age ≤25 or ≥65, alcohol, speeding, failure to use seat belts, and heavy trucks. Future research on the frequency and severity of roadside accidents should focus on quantitatively analyzing the probability of roadside accidents and occupant injury risk and developing methods for identifying roadside accident blackspots. For roadside safety design, roadside clear zones and safety slopes should be precisely quantified based on a cost-benefit analysis in future studies.

Abstract:
Three Australian States introduced lower blood alcohol levels (BALs) for first-year drivers than those applicable to other drivers. In Tasmania, a zero BAL significantly reduced casualty accidents for drivers and motorcyclists, in South Australia a 005 per cent BAL significantly reduced male driver and motorcyclist casualty accidents not requiring hospitalization, while in Western Australia a 002 per cent BAL significantly reduced driver and motorcyclist casualty accidents not requiring hospitalization. For a number of methodological reasons the counter-measure should only be regarded as a promising rather than a proven way of reducing alcohol-related accidents among young drivers.

With the rapid development of the global economy, automobile industry and high-grade highway create the necessary tools and infrastructure for the fast and convenient traffic. However, the cars also bring some negative effects of human life, such as traffic accidents. China has become the world's most serious national in the traffic accidents. In order to make the traffic accident rescue convenient, the automatic positioning system is studied, and the software and hardware are also designed. The control system uses the PIC18F458 as a controller, which combines with the modern sensor technology and GPS, and realizes the automatic positioning in traffic accidents. Experiments show that the system has the advantages of stability, reliability and strong anti-interference ability.

Abstract:
A 0.08% maximum legal blood alcohol level (BAL) for drivers in Queensland was replaced by a 0.05% BAL. As alcohol is especially likely to be a factor in night-time accidents, the evaluation focused on the extent to which night-time accidents decreased in comparison to daytime accidents. It appeared that most, if not all, of the significant 8.2% reduction in night-time hospitalization and 5.5% reduction in property damage accidents in the first year after the legislative change could be attributed to the lower BAL. The evaluation showed that the 0.05% BAL had an accident-reducing effectiveness beyond its first year of operation, although some of the accident reductions in the second and third years may have been partly the result of increased enforcement.

Abstract:
The European Union directions pay a specific focus on traffic safety. Safety of railway transport traffic is among priority fields which has a direct effect on the quality of life of the population. It is most convenient to consider the number of breaks and accidents per year as the indicator of traffic safety. Reasons of traffic accidents can be very different. Most accidents occur due to poor technical condition of rolling‐stock and infrastructure, the human factor and the deficient organization of traffic. Stock Company “Lithuanian railways” can not assure safe traffic yet. The number of traffic incidents decreased in a few preserves only. Considering that, it is necessary to prepare a strategy for traffic safety and the program for its implementation. In 2002 specialists started preparing a study for safe traffic. The study is important for the preparation and implementation of the mentioned program. First results obtained from the research have already approved the importance of the influence of infrastructure, rolling‐stock and a human factor on traffic safety. The research carried out indicates positive changes in the situation of traffic safety of Lithuanian railways.

Abstract:
In the recent past, a huge number of cameras have been placed in a variety of public and private areas for the purposes of surveillance, the monitoring of abnormal human actions, and traffic surveillance. The detection and recognition of abnormal activity in a real-world environment is a big challenge, as there can be many types of alarming and abnormal activities, such as theft, violence, and accidents. This research deals with accidents in traffic videos. In the modern world, video traffic surveillance cameras (VTSS) are used for traffic surveillance and monitoring. As the population is increasing drastically, the likelihood of accidents is also increasing. The VTSS is used to detect abnormal events or incidents regarding traffic on different roads and highways, such as traffic jams, traffic congestion, and vehicle accidents. Mostly in accidents, people are helpless and some die due to the unavailability of emergency treatment on long highways and those places that are far from cities. This research proposes a methodology for detecting accidents automatically through surveillance videos. A review of the literature suggests that convolutional neural networks (CNNs), which are a specialized deep learning approach pioneered to work with grid-like data, are effective in image and video analysis. This research uses CNNs to find anomalies (accidents) from videos captured by the VTSS and implement a rolling prediction algorithm to achieve high accuracy. In the training of the CNN model, a vehicle accident image dataset (VAID), composed of images with anomalies, was constructed and used. For testing the proposed methodology, the trained CNN model was checked on multiple videos, and the results were collected and analyzed. The results of this research show the successful detection of traffic accident events with an accuracy of 82% in the traffic surveillance system videos.

Abstract:
Abstract In terms of continual increase of number of traffic accidents and alarming trend of increasing number of traffic accidents with catastrophic consequences for human life and health, it is necessary to actively research and develop methods to combat these trends. One of the measures is the implementation of advanced information systems in existing traffic environment. Accidents clusters, as databases of traffic accidents, introduce a new dimension in traffic systems in the form of experience, providing information on current accidents and the ones that have previously occurred in a given period. This paper proposes a new approach to predictive management of traffic processes, based on the collection of data in real time and is based on accidents clusters. The modern traffic information services collects road traffic status data from a wide variety of traffic sensing systems using modern ICT technologies, creating the most accurate road traffic situation awareness achieved so far. Road traffic situation awareness enhanced by accident clusters' data can be visualized and distributed in various ways (including the forms of dynamic heat maps) and on various information platforms, suiting the requirements of the end-users. Accent is placed on their significant features that are based on additional knowledge about existing traffic processes and distribution of important traffic information in order to prevent and reduce traffic accidents.

Abstract:
Traffic accidents form clusters in terms of geographic space and over time which themselves exhibit distinct spatial and temporal patterns. There is an imperative need to understand how, where and when traffic accidents occur in order to develop appropriate accident reduction strategies. An improved understanding of the location, time and reasons for traffic accidents makes a significant contribution to preventing them. Traffic accident occurrences have been extensively studied from different spatial and temporal points of view using a variety of methodological approaches. In literature, less research has been dedicated to the temporal patterns of traffic accidents. In this paper, the numbers of traffic accidents are normalized according to the traffic volume and the distribution and fluctuation of these accidents is examined in terms of Islamic time intervals. The daily activities and worship of Muslims are arranged according to these time intervals that are spaced fairly throughout the day according to the position of the sun. The Islamic time intervals are never been used before to identify the critical hour for traffic accidents in the world. The results show that the sunrise is the critical time that acts as a threshold in the rate of traffic accidents throughout Turkey in Islamic time intervals.

Abstract:
Traffic accidents become one of the events that often occur in Indonesia. From the three-monthly report by the Indonesian National Police Traffic Police, there are about 25,000 traffic accidents. Many social media users, especially Twitter, share information about traffic accidents. Twitter has various information regarding traffic accidents. Therefore, this study aims to process and map information about traffic accidents contained on Twitter in Indonesia language. We use the domain ontology and Named-Entity Recognition for the data extraction process. Named-Entity Recognition is used for obtaining keywords from a tweet based on class categories such as actor, time, location, and information on the cause of the accident. This research generates a Named Entity Recognition (NER) model that can provide a reasonably accurate level of accuracy. Also, we create an ontology that can categorize the causes of traffic accidents based on the Directorate General of the Land Transportation Office, Indonesia. We found that the traffic accidents are generally caused by inadequate vehicle conditions with the main problem in the vehicle caused by brake failure, while environmental factors rarely cause traffic accidents. Moreover, the vehicle is the subclass that mostly appears in the tweets, where car is the most popular actor, followed by truck and motorcycle.

The proliferation of smart devices, IoT applications and wireless communication technologies contribute in countries development, society’s security, cost reduction, and customer services satisfactions; since they are used in different aspects of our life. Traffic congestion and accidents are increased recently and reached critical limits, so these contribute in initiating sever problems for researchers, governments and industry over the last few decades. Traffic accidents have many defects relating to increase number of death, infrastructure distribution, and health injuries; therefore, there is a crucial need to develop and modify an approach that utilizes the new technology to limit and prevent the traffic accidents. Wireless sensors networks are developed to support smart solutions in smart cities like smart traffic, smart grid and others. In this research we developed a comprehensive approach to achieve the following three important goals in smart accident elimination. The first goal is to minimize the number of exchange information packets between sensors to save the battery life through developing and adapting clustering schema to minimize the number of exchanges information packets. The second goal is to calculate and determine the optimum route from accident location to the nearest rescue location by developing a dynamic routing schema that is calculated by the control station depending on a cost heuristics function. The third goal is to predicate the accident causes and minimize the probability of accidents occur using a warning message schema and drawing some obstacles on some routing paths. Cupcarbon simulator and MATLAB software tool are developed to simulate different scenarios in order to proof the research goals.

Prevention is done during this time to anticipate accidents only based on the data of the accident quantity that has occurred. Though factors or incidents that can cause accidents to become the biggest contributor in the event of accidents. For example, driving a vehicle in an unorderly manner, the pace of the vehicle with the above-average velocity set traffic rules, and sudden vehicle maneuvers. This research is done by identifying and analyzing the behavior of motorcyclists who affect accidents and applying TCT methods to observation data at points that become potential locations Against accidents. The research location is on the Narogong Highway which is divided into 2 segments. In Segment 1 begins at junction four Cipendawa (after the flyover Simpang Cipendawa) until the junction of the three Gg. Sawo (Bantar Gebang Market). Next, in Segment 2 starts from junction three of Gg. Sawo (Bantar Gebang Market) until the three houses of Vida housing. The results showed that the research location had potential that could cause the accident to be front-side on the first order, collision front-front on the second-order, and side-by-side collision on the third order. The speed of vehicles has an impact on accidents.

Abstract:
Quite often, traffic accidents occur due to a sudden failure of the steering, undercarriage or brake system of a car associated with the technical condition of vehicles. In this case, various parts of vehicles (steering, springs, wheels, couplers and braking system, etc.) are destroyed. However, destruction of these parts can also occur as a result of traffic accidents, for example, in a collision or rollover. Therefore, in cases of road accidents, an auto-technical examination is appointed. It is important for making an informed and objective decision on the case to clarify the reasons for the destruction of parts that affect the safety of the vehicle, and the establishment of the time for the occurrence of these malfunctions. Conducting a metallographic expertise, which in most cases is auxiliary, can significantly help the investigation and the court, when solving these issues. Its conclusions are supplemented and specified by the conclusions of another examination, for example, auto-technical. The paper outlines the scheme and stages of research of products made of metals and alloys performed by experts in the production of automotive expertise to establish a causal relationship between the technical condition of the vehicle and the mechanism of traffic accidents.

Abstract:
In recent years, the number of fatal traffic accidents has been on the rise in Taiwan, with a total of 2865 fatalities in 2019, representing a 3% increase from the previous year, and indicating an urgent need for the improvement of Taiwan’s traffic conditions. This research focuses on the three-way intersections on provincial roads. In Taiwan, such three-way intersections account for more than 70% of all intersections on provincial roads. From 2018 to 2019, there were 41,137 accidents at three-way intersections, accounting for about 50% of the traffic accidents in Taiwan. Relevant research in Taiwan has been mostly focused on driver characteristics and other factors were less addressed. In this study, we looked into the environmental factors, conducted analysis and the results were proposed for future roadway safety improvements. This study uses a regression model for analysis, in which the dependent variable is the number of traffic accidents at each intersection. However, for 68% of the three-way intersections surveyed, the number of traffic accidents recorded during the observation period was zero. Therefore, this study uses zero-inflated models to construct a model to identify important variables that affect the severity of traffic accidents at three-way intersections. The research results show that two types of factors are related to the risk of traffic accidents at three-way intersections. The first type includes the width of the provincial road, the width of the shoulder, the width of the dividing line and the number of lanes, while the second type relates to the presence of convenience stores, gas stations, supermarkets, and other attractions, such as public retail markets at the intersection.

Abstract:
Based on the virtual simulation theory, we used three-dimensional modeling software to build modeling road facilities (vehicles, trees, street lights, etc.) for simulating the accident environment, and by using OpenGL technology, achieved reading, displaying and controlling the three-dimensional models. This dynamically realized the three-dimensional animated simulation of vehicle movement. Simultaneously we have calculated in progress the simulation of vehicle crash with the basic theory of automobile collision, vehicle collision model and the law of conservation of energy and momentum. Finally, we constructed a flexible platform for the simulation experiment. The platform is enabling to add and update road, trees, street lamps and house on the simulation environment dynamically, and has ability to analysis the traffic accident. This could give an assistant to the handling traffic accidents.
