Abstract:
Abstract A change in livelihood and folk architecture is an indicator of cultural landscape transformation, which is often the result of changes occurring in the natural and socio-political realms. The diversity of architectural types of buildings as an element of landscape diversity distinguishes our research region. The presented study deals with a long-term change of housing and architectural types of settlements. Our goal was to identify, geolocalise, and classify the vernacular architecture of Samtskhe-Javakheti within the different types of natural landscapes. For this purpose, we used the HGIS (Historical Geoinformation System) approach, which comprises the application of both historic sources and GIS technologies. We identified seven types of buildings in the study area, the characteristics of which depended on the natural landscape features. The following factors had been determining the geography of the construction: geology, seismicity, terrain, climate, access to building materials and defence. Dominant architectural types of buildings in the study region were as follows: fortress Rabat with stone houses, stone houses, semi-underground houses mixed with stone houses, semi-underground houses, terraced semi-underground houses, cave dwellings and wooden log houses. In modern times, it is quite rare to come across these kinds of architectural buildings, and there is a tendency of their disappearance.

Abstract:
The article is focused on vernacular dwellings in different parts of Europe: southern Italy and Lithuania that have their own traditions. The authors note that the attitude towards traditional vernacular architecture has largely changed due to ongoing research in this domail. Nevertheless, despite persistent continuity of traditional architecture, vernacular architecture was affected by the rise and development of modernist ideology that neglected the realm of tradition. The authors discuss some tyoes of vernacular buildings and their relation to local landscape, especially focusing on the traditional vernacular dwelling of Kuršių nerija (coastal regionbordering with Curonian spit and the Baltic Sea. This region was originally an area of fishermen villages and though some of the settlements ceasedf to exist there are a number of vernacula houses that belong to architectural heritage. The issues of dwellings, authenticity, survival and protection as well as some ambiguous issues of sustainability of traditional dwellings arer discussed. The authors conclude by suggesting that multiple assesment perspective should be employed while dealign with vernacular buildings suggesting that buildings of this type can perform functions extending the tourist consumption.

Abstract:
The results of the analysis of architectural and landscape interactions in the valley spaces of the rivers in Ukrainian Carpathians are presented in the article. The analysis was made at the scale level of elements of the architectural landscape. It was the next step after preliminary studies at the two highest scale levels - the level of settlement systems and at the level of settlements. The goal is to create a scientific basis for the methodical bases of the architectural and landscape arrangement of river valley spaces in Ukrainian Carpathians. Architectural and landscape interactions at a lowest scale level (level of an architectural landscape elements) are most clearly manifested in the aesthetic aspects. Elements of the architectural landscape are divided into natural and anthropogenic. The last ones were studied, which in turn are divided into urban elements, architectural objects and engineering structures. 30 elements were analyzed by functional-planning and aesthetic characteristics, of which 7 are presented in the article. It was revealed, that the large buildings, which visually dominate the relief, spoil aesthetics and identity of the valley landscape. When the traditional superficiality is exceeded, the feeling of the dominant influence of natural components on the local architectural environment is lost. The use of artificial finishing materials or too bright colors distorts the image and disintegrates the environment. It was established, that the best aesthetic effect in the relationship of architecture and landscape is achieved by applying traditional local styles in construction, in which there is an organic unity of nature and architecture through scale and form, as well as the use of natural materials in decoration.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the influence of traditional Chinese landscape architecture on the shaping of European small architectural forms and the influence of European architecture on contemporary Chinese architectural practice. The purpose of the article is to identify the features of the architectural mutual influences of Chinese and European cultures. The method of historical analysis, the method of comparative analysis and the graphoanalytical method are used. The lack of identity between the Chinese and European gardens and the park with the pavilions is proved at the different hierarchical levels. Two groups of European Chinoiserie style pavilions have been identified: which give a false idea of Chinese architectural traditions and which represent a simplified version of those traditions. There is noticed the influence of the traditional Chinese approach to the architectural objects placement in the natural environment on the development of the contextualism concept in Western architecture (since the 1960s) which proclaims its purpose to preserve the natural beauty of the site through careful design that relates to its surroundings. The concept of contextualism is now widely used in the design of small architectural forms in the urban environment and in the design of the architectural environment in general, both in Europe and in China. This is a clear example of mutual enrichment with the ideas of two civilizations, each of which preserves its own culture.

Abstract:
The object of this research is the historical,-cultural and natural environment of historical settlements of the Russian North. The subject of this research is the traditional dwelling as a factor of formation and transformation of the cultural landscape of Onezhskoye Pomorye. The goal lies in studying the peculiarities of formation and transformation of cultural landscape of the rural settlements Onezhskoye Pomorye based on the material of traditional dwelling. The research relies on the empirical data acquired in the course of expedition of the Scientific Center for Traditional Culture and Museum Practices of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences to Onezhsky District of Arkhangelsk Region (2018–2021);archival sources of A.V. Shchusev State Museum of Architecture (Moscow), experience of exploring the monuments of wooden architecture of the open-air museum “Malye Korely” (Arkhangelsk Region). The data were obtained by photofixation of the architectural monuments, schematic measurements, and ethnographic survey conducted among local residents using the method of interview. The research employs the original methodology developed by the Doctor of Culturology A. B. Permilovskaya on the architectural-ethnographic exploration of the sites of wooden architecture. Cultural landscape of Onezhskoye Pomorye (and the Russian North overall) primarily is the landscape of rural historical settlements. Northern settlements emerged in close connection with the natural landscape and transformed it into a cultural one. Special role in this process was played by the local population – the Pomors, who were guided by the principles of creating compact settlements, with closed type of dwelling to due to the harsh climate. The adaptive capabilities of traditional dwelling, reflected in its architectural design, allowed the people to survive in the severe conditions of the North. The dwelling is a reflection of natural space of the Russian North and the Arctic, passed through the “prism” of local mentality and carpenter's culture, coexistence of man and the surrounding natural environment, special marker of the North Russian identity, and intrinsic part of the North Russian cultural landscape.

Abstract:
The Dhawe Tribe cultural area, better known as the Ola Dhawe Traditional Village, is currently the center of attention of the government and the local community because the site has changed the activity pattern of the Dhawe Tribe community both in terms of culture and in terms of culture and landscape. These changes occur in community activities that can damage the environment, such as logging activities around customary forest areas, converting customary land into residential areas, natural exploitation around the Dhawe Tribe area, and replacing traditional house structure materials from raw into modern materials. The changes that occur are feared to impact the preservation of the landscape and culture of the Dhawe Tribe community. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a study on human interaction with the landscape, which is now called the cultural landscape, as the primary material for sustainable development and efforts to preserve the various values. This study aims to identify the architectural characteristics and cultural landscapes of the Dhawe Tribe and determine the public's perception of its conservation efforts. Primary data was obtained using focus group discussions, while the analysis method was carried out in a descriptive-qualitative manner and continued with quantitative analysis. The results and discussion obtained can be developed on recommendations for preserving the architecture and cultural landscape of the Dhawe Tribe. The conclusion is that efforts to identify architecture and cultural landscapes and public understanding of culture are needed as conservation efforts.

Abstract:
This paper presents an in-depth study and analysis of the spatial distribution of urban landscapes in Jiangnan cities under the influence of geomorphology and extracts the characteristics to explore the construction mechanism from the perspective of spatial functionality based on the analysis of the process and content of landscape construction. The construction of cities and ponds originated from political influence, environmental constraints, and architectural techniques; the landscape pattern of the combined shape and complementary potential originated from the creation of various types of gardens in various dynasties; the complementary planning of landscape, the traffic creation of the plain and water network, and the production factors of agriculture and sanitation influenced the construction of the countryside landscape; the traditional view of feng shui, poetry and painting, the eight scenes of the city and countryside, and other humanistic intentions influenced the overall situation of the town and the landscape. This paper extracts and analyzes the spatial distribution characteristics of Jiangnan city landscape from several perspectives, and the results can clearly show the distribution of landscape features under the influence of geomorphology and can give the best layout suggestions. From the perspective of spatial variability, the main features of traditional landscape construction in Jiangnan are analyzed through three levels: the characteristics of the process of humanized landscapes evolving into natural landscapes, the comparative analysis of similarities and differences in the construction of cities and towns, and the characteristics of the system of regional landscape construction. Finally, the changes in the landscape pattern of the region under the influence of globalization are analyzed through the changing characteristics of landscape architecture.

Abstract:
The article analyzes and formulates the characteristic features of traditional Ukrainian landscape design, which had authentic roots and was based on minimal interference in the existing natural environment and its maximum use to enhance the properties of architecture. The purpose of the article is to identify traditional and innovative elements in the landscaping of modern Ukrainian Orthodox churches. The descriptive method, the graphical-and-analytical method, the methods of historical and comparative analysis were used. The main traditional methods of Ukrainian landscape design of the XVII–XVIII centuries are determined. Examples of traditional landscape design of Polish monasteries are given, taking into account the rather long influence of Polish culture on a large part of Ukrainian territories. The modern landscape techniques in Ukraine based on the use of folk traditions are described and analyzed. Two main directions of modern landscape design of territories around cult buildings are defined – repetition of the established receptions (in ethno-complexes) and creative modernization of architectural forms in combination with landscape design (on examples of newly built churches). It is shown how both methods enhance the properties and aesthetic expressiveness of architecture.

Abstract:
The architectural discourse in Indonesia generally focuses on traditional architecture that represents specific regional icons, the synthesis of traditional architecture with European-style architecture, and modern architecture inspired by International Style. This research focuses on the architectural style in Indonesia which flourished in the 1950s, known as the Jengki architectural style. This architectural style is essential in the history of Indonesian architecture, considering that the style reflects the spirit of nationalism and post-colonial Indonesian. This research aims to explore the icons of Jengki architecture, by elucidating the architectural concepts that underlie the two oldest Jengki buildings in Bandung, West Java. The analysis showed that the characteristics of this architectural style shown by the configuration of architectural elements resembling the form of a pentagon, mostly asymmetrical in spatial layout, playful articulation of ornaments, and the use of local materials. The pentagon becomes an icon of Pancasila, which is a foundational principle of the new Indonesian state and symbolize the meaning of nationalism. Thus, the icon which also represents symbolic meaning becomes an essential aspect in the design of Jengki-style buildings in the future. This icon can be an alternative to be applied to modern buildings that are intended to display national icons, rather than particular regional icons. Besides enriching the architectural knowledge of Indonesian architecture, the results of this study are beneficial to architectural practitioners, stakeholders, and architectural conservationists as well

Abstract:
During the 17th-18th century colonial period on the Indian subcontinent, British colonial architecture flourished – including in the Bengal Delta. Although colonial architecture was inherently different from the traditional architecture of this tropical region, the monsoon climate and deltaic landscape forced colonial style buildings to incorporate a number of tropical architectural features to ensure climatic comfort. In the contemporary period, due to pressure from population density, many colonial buildings have been demolished and replaced with multi-story buildings. However, the tropical forces of this deltaic region need to be evaluated in order to re-create climate responsive architecture. This study aims to identify tropical architectural features inherent within colonial buildings of Khulna, Bangladesh, a city which formed a junction in the deltaic region during the colonial period. Four colonial buildings have been selected as case studies: two residential buildings, one mixed-use building, and a school. Tropical features were analysed from photographic data, and reproductions of plans and sections of the selected buildings, in order to reveal the significant tropical architectural features of these colonial period buildings. The case studies reveal structural and design elements that aided ventilation and air flow, and controlled solar radiation, humidity and driving rain. The findings aim to encourage practicing architects to rethink climate responsiveness in contemporary buildings in Bangladesh, by revealing how, a century ago, colonial buildings were influenced by the tropical deltaic climate, which impacted foreign architectural ideology and practice.

Abstract:
The use of symbolism in contemporary architecture is increasingly gaining momentum, especially so in the Eastern countries currently undergoing rapid economic development. Sociologically, this phenomenon can be related to a desire to manifest a vast wealth of national art and respond to the globalisation and unification of world culture. Taking this tendency as a prompt, this study explores different ways of implementing symbolic ornaments in landscape architecture. Traditionally architecture has been defined through and judged against culturally acceptable criteria that set the norm for appropriate form and expression. Yet, technical advances have altered this process and contributed to a certain level of oblivion of traditional architectural form. Thus, the meaning of many Kazakh ornaments has been lost through time. On one hand, this paper collects historical information on the semiotics of Kazakh ornaments and on the other hand, it conducts field studies focusing on the cultural tradition of the native people in Eurasia. The study introduces the use of symbolism in landscape architecture as an aspiration for luck and prosperity which then dictates the quality of the landscape compositions. The findings show that the use of symbolic ornamentation in architecture is not bound to specific geographic areas but rather motivated by broader underlying principles. Through analytical exploration of different cultures and their use of symbols in architecture, this study identifies four main categories of architectural symbolism relating to floral, zoomorphic, geometric and cosmogonic patterns. Each nation then recognises its own identity in the semiotics of those patterns and incorporates them in the urban realm as part of its cultural legacy.

Abstract:
The article considers the importance of preserving the architectural environment's national identity in terms of its defense’s effectiveness in modern military operations. A brief overview of the traditional urban characteristics of Ukrainian cities, which in the past ensured their effective defense, was made: the way the buildings are located in the landscape, the planning structure, the height of the buildings, and the density of their location on the territory. The local landscape was actively involved in the architectural organization of the environment, which ultimately determined the unique plan structure for each city and the individual routing of the street network. If necessary, elements of the local landscape were supplemented with artificial systems and used for defense. A significant perimeter of cities with a predominance of traditional manor buildings created difficulties for the organization of the enemy encirclement. Internal fortifications around individual structural elements of the city contributed to long-term defense. To protect large areas, a system of tree-earth ramparts was artificially created. In the past, these measures helped to defend Ukrainian cities effectively. The events of the Russian-Ukrainian war, among other things, revealed that modern weapons, with all their capabilities, could not always overcome landscape obstacles, in particular, ancient defensive walls and swampy areas north of Kyiv; cities that preserved the traditional character of the architectural environment defended more effectively; flat regions of cities, compared to those located on rugged terrain, found themselves in a more threatening situation, etc. All these facts will obviously be subject to detailed analysis in the future. Still, it is already possible to conclude that the preservation of traditional identity in the conditions of a modern architectural environment is essential not only for the self-identification of residents or for the formation of the attractiveness of urban space but also for practical reasons of organizing the effective defense. After all, in the process of long-term formation of the architectural space’s traditional features, the defensive potential of the local landscape many times passed a practical test of its effectiveness by military operations in different historical periods.

Abstract:
Garden landscape not only provides people with places of rest and entertainment, but also protects the natural environment and maintained ecological balance. Although the traditional garden architectural style could retain the classical landscape style, the modern garden facilities and conditions had been greatly improved, and people’s expectations for the construction level of garden landscape continued to improve. Therefore, the effect of traditional landscape design could no longer meet the requirements of social development. This article proposed an interactive genetic algorithm-based landscape space environment optimization design method, in order to provide a certain theoretical reference for landscape design. Firstly, by analyzing the relationship between landscape and buildings, the change in people’s demand for landscape space environment and the relevant characteristics of landscape, this article expounded on the basic principles and methods that landscape design should follow and gave the problems existing in landscape design. Secondly, the interactive genetic algorithm and its innovative design theory were summarized, and the optimization design method of garden landscape space environment based on interactive genetic algorithm was proposed. Finally, the evaluation index system of landscape spatial environment was constructed, and experimental analysis was carried out with a landscape design as a case. The results showed that compared with the traditional landscape design methods, the design scheme proposed in this article could achieve better evaluation results. The optimization design method of landscape space environment proposed in this article could provide some technical support and theoretical reference for landscape architecture and design.

Abstract:
The concept of “historic buildings” is cultural with evolutionary characteristics, mainly constructed in the category of historical culture and people’s living settlements. “Public art” is an artistic asset with aesthetic attributes in urban living spaces. It contains two connotations, “cultural landscape” and “cultural route”, which form an artistic symbol of urban architectural space at the same time. Along with the progress of an urban renewal plan, a local culture characterized the urban landscape, making architecture a tool used to convey cultural identity spatially. Two coexisting issues can be seen through the accumulated structure and long-term changes of historic buildings, a region’s appearance, and the content of the traditional architectural styles—cultural value preservation and modern urban renewal—which ferment and generate decision-making discussion of design subtly in every corner of a city. This study examines the extant literature and the design model of public art landscape setting to construct a design model that balances the cultural value of historic buildings, and the landscape of public art has been proposed as a result of this study.

Abstract:
The subject of this research is the traditional dwelling in the natural and cultural space of the Russian North and the Arctic. The goal of this work is to examine the peculiarities of a peasant house in Purnema settlement as a factor of formation of the cultural landscape of Onezhskoye Pomorye. The dwelling is examines not as an isolated structure, but an integral part of the North Russian cultural landscape, one of the key elements of the traditional culture of Pomorye— the Russian variant of marine culture in the Arctic. The research is based on empirical data acquired in the course of expedition in 2020 on the territory of Onezhskoye Pomorye, settlement of Purnema, Arkhangelsk Region. The article emplopys archival sources of the State Museum of Architecture named after A.V. Shchusev (Moscow), wooden architecture sites in the open-air museum “Malye Korely” (Arkhangelsk Region). Empirical data was obtained via photographic evidence of architectural sites, schematic measurements, and ethnographic questionnaire of local residents, using the method of interview. The research also leans on methodology developed by the Doctor of Culturology A. B. Permilovskaya on the architectural and ethnographic survey of the wooden architecture sites. The conclusion is made that the architectural-construct peculiarities of the dwelling and type settlement demonstrate the specific lifestyle of the Russian people in the harsh forest zone and their adjustment to the local climate. In the conditions of the North and the Arctic, a peasant house manifests as a stabilizing factor of adaptation, which ensures sustainable coexistence of population and cultural landscape formed therein; and thus, the effectiveness of ethnosocial and environmental development of the Northern and Arctic territories of the Russian Federation.

Abstract There are always certain considerations behind the presentation of architectural works by our ancestors, including the formation of traditional Acehnese village landscape patterns. The form of traditional architectural works reflects solutions to the environment, socio-culture, and technology of the supporting community as a form of local wisdom. This paper aims to examine the reasons for the formation of traditional Acehnese village landscape patterns in the past, and how they relate to modern housing landscape patterns in Banda Aceh City based on climate variables. A literature study was conducted to find out the elements and patterns of the village landscape that will be used as parameters to analyze samples of modern housing from three different areas in Banda Aceh City, namely the North, Central, and South. This paper concludes that the pattern of traditional Aceh settlements is formed from housing zoning, public facilities, arable land, and forests as village boundaries with a group pattern. This pattern is formed based on a geographical and climatic approach that is adapted to the contours of the land and building technology, resulting in a mitigation system against frequent storms and a cross-ventilation system for residential buildings. While the relevance of its application to the landscape pattern of modern housing produces different characteristics based on several adjustments to changes in socio-cultural, material, and transformed building technology.

In the context of high-quality development of rural tourism, the design of rural landscape is of great significance for inheriting regional culture and protecting local ecology. From the perspective of the planning and design of rural tourism, the authors divide the elements of rural landscape into four aspects: “original” rural environment, “original” rural architecture, “original” production and life, and “original” folk customs. Based on that, the authors then propose to boost the protection and creation of rural landscape from four aspects which are: continuation of the traditions and architectural styles of western Sichuan, protection of rural natural ecology, inheritance of regional traditional culture, and implementation of the strategy of “cultural innovation + rural tourism”, so as to realize the sustainable development of rural landscape.

The article deals with the features of the formation of the landscape and architectural environment due to the trends in social development in the 20s of the 21st century. The present time is characterized by the formation of an information society, the complexity of social transformations, the problems of epidemics, the environmental crisis, and other processes. In this sense, the cultural, ecological, and traditional components of the surrounding space are necessary to stabilize the negative impact of the risks of the specified period. Urbanization and urban population growth require special attention to the identified problems. The million-plus Rostov-on-Don city, known for its pace of construction, has faced the issue of the need to intensify the landscape activities, considering the possibilities of transport interchanges, the environmental friendliness of the city, and other problems raised in our article due to the active construction of high-rise buildings. Of particular interest are the studies of Chinese scientists on this problem and the methods of its solution. Our tasks echo their theoretical research and practice of recreating lost and historic urban landscapes.

More than 80% of the people in the USA and Canada live in cities. Urban development replaces natural environments with built environments resulting in limited access to outdoor environments which are critical to human health and well-being. In addition, many urban open spaces are unused because of poor design. This paper describes case studies where traditional landscape architectural design approaches would have compromised design success, while evidence-based landscape architecture (EBLA) resulted in a successful product. Examples range from school-yard design that provides safe levels of solar radiation for children, to neighborhood parks and sidewalks that encourage people to walk and enjoy nearby nature. Common characteristics for integrating EBLA into private, public, and academic landscape architecture practice are outlined along with a discussion of some of the opportunities and barriers to implementation.

This study analyzed the data collected from field research and SD questionnaires on the application of traditional elements in Aba Prefecture. This study adopted the multidisciplinary research method integrating linguistics, architecture, art, and statistics of science and technology to discuss the related issues of the cultural industry park, and analyze the expression of traditional art elements in the visual communication of the cultural industry park. First, based on the photographs taken, we analyzed the layout of typical scenes of traditional element applications on the plane, including the analysis of traditional element types, colors, and materials. Second, the SD questionnaire results are displayed and analyzed. From the comprehensive scores of the respondents, we learned that the application of traditional elements has different effects on the architectural landscape. The main results show that (1) the public has a positive attitude toward the expression of traditional culture in the planning and construction of the park. Scenes rich in traditional elements play a positive role in the transmission of traditional culture and the creation of a traditional atmosphere; (2) showing traditional architectural styles and landscape layouts in a reproducible way can more intuitively set off the traditional cultural atmosphere; (3) the texture of the stone wall has certain rules and principles. The arrangement and combination of stones are a plane composition, and the visual characteristics brought by the wall can be specifically analyzed according to the elements of the plane composition. The stone masonry wall is analyzed according to the elements of plane composition, which can be divided into visual elements and relational elements. The visual elements are divided into the size, shape, color, and texture of the image, and the relational elements refer to the relationship between position and arrangement, including orientation, location, and center of gravity.

Abstract:
Covid-19 has tremendously impacted global daily life and the built environment, particularly in tourist places' pleasure. Modern architectural practices, such as planning tourist sites, must display new patterns while updating current ones to control contagious diseases efficiently. Polarity is a spiritual concept in Bali that focuses on the impact of nature and geography on traditional Balinese societies. The island's natural environment influences traditional Balinese beliefs and practices on the propriety of specific architectural types and space layouts. According to this theory, the universe was created by colliding two opposed poles. It makes some suggestions for improving the layout of rural villages. This architecture can be seen on the Indonesian island of Bali at several major tourist spots, most notably in the island's eastern area. Despite this, the Covid-19 pandemic underscored the significance of virus prevention in building design, particularly tourist-oriented hotels. Architects, designers, environmentalists, and others in the tourism industry face several challenges while creating and building environmentally sustainable tourist facilities. The study's goal was to see if the traditional architectural principles of eastern Bali could be leveraged to create a tourism facility template that would allow the hospitality industry to meet the demand for new, effective layouts and layout variants. As a result, the villages in eastern Bali that have preserved their old practices have contributed significantly to our understanding of what it means to be a modern human. Professionals can use historical knowledge to build resilient patterns and configurations even when confronted with modern threats, such as viral attacks on famous tourist locations. This study refuted several long-held ideas in light of the Covid -19 results.

- Complex platforms raise a number of issues, concerning above all problems related to urban and regional planning. These are dealt with in the framework of disciplines that tend more and more to focus on the management of regulative and procedural processes to the detriment of traditional planning practices that place greater emphasis on architectural, urban and landscape design. Hence in order to understand the role that ‘megastructures' take on in the composition of contemporary landscapes, more attention needs to be paid to the design side of things and to the development of innovative skills and know-how. In this regard, the increasingly close interaction between what has traditionally been considered ‘free time' and time given over to shopping (an activity carried out in artificial places situated outside city centres but in areas of landscape interest) is proof solid of how it has now become indispensable to initiate a virtuous process that will reconcile functional needs with higher standards of spatial and environmental quality.

Abstract:
The article presents the preliminary results of the architectural and ethnographic survey of the Varzuga settlement. The subject of the study is the traditional complex-houses in the cultural landscape of the rural historical settlements of the Terskoye Pomorye. The purpose is to determine the place and role of the house in the space of a modern Pomorye settlement; to identify the architectural and structural features, layout and decor of the dwelling as an ethnomarker of Russians in the North and the Arctic. The research is based on empirical material obtained during expedition survey in 2022 in the Tersky district of the Murmansk region. Also, it is based on the application of the author's methodology of the Doctor of Sciences (Culturology) A.B. Permilovskaya on architectural and ethnographic survey of wooden architecture objects. The author concludes that the Varzuga dwelling is a more compact version of the “brus” (beam), which is found in the settlements of the southern coast of the White Sea. The main constructive difference is that the “back” hut here is adjacent not to a cold barn, but to a significantly reduced utility yard, and has its own “main” facade overlooking the back of the house. However, in general, even a significantly rebuilt house retains its place as a factor in the formation of the cultural landscape of the settlement, bears the features of the continuity of ancient carpentry traditions, and in its laconic decor contains cultural meanings that reflect the mentality of the local Pomors population.

Abstract:
The number of the religious architecture makes up 70 percent of the total of existing traditional buildings in China, in which the largest proportion is the Chinese Buddhist architecture, this paper has been studied in this kind of building. Firstly, the religious background and development history of the Chinese Buddhist architecture is introduced, and this paper puts forward that this architectural form was affected by the ancient folk houses. Compared to Buddhist architecture in other countries, they are majestic in shape and beautiful elaborate in decoration, the whole form and nature landscape melt into one another. Secondly, religious spaces are analyzed, including the location of Buddhist temple, the overall layout and the single building. Most temples were built on the hill, and the Buddhist hall is the center of architectural complex. Single building is very similar, and its position is attached to its status in spatial sequence. Thirdly, the design concept of Buddhist architecture was discovered. It was pointed out that Chinese traditional philosophy, i.e. the view of the nature, determines the space composition inside and outside of Chinese Buddhist architecture. At last, the paper summed up the design of Buddhist architecture and gave a prospect about the way of its future development.

As the product of culture and the background of human activities, architecture that constructs place-identity are in a state of constant modification. This paper explores the dynamic development of architecture of a vernacular landscape since the time when external power of colonialization introduced new ideas, techniques and construction methods to the more traditional know how. A case study in Bali is analyzed through historical research involving document and policy analysis, in depth interview with key informants, observation and building surveys. The result shows that prior to colonization era, the island was developed based on local building codes called Hasta Kosala-Kosali that is written on traditional lontar leaf manuscripts. New political system as well as business interests are two main factors influencing the transformation of architectural-identity of the island in the colonial and post-colonial era to date. The physical identity is among the main charms of the Island of Bali. In order to maintain the attractiveness of the island, the public and private sector should work together with the community in establishing policies regarding the physical development of Bali. Keywords: Architectural identity, tradition, post-colonialism, hasta kosala-kosali

Abstract:
The traditional Romanian village has recently seen unmistakable transformations. The import of architectural styles from EU countries and the need to modernise dwellings, combined with considerable legislative voids regarding the protection of the built-up heritage, have strongly modified traditional architecture and resulted in irremediable losses in terms of rural authenticity and landscape aesthetics. This study aims to analyse the need for preserving existing traditional architecture in Certeze village, which has been severely jeopardised by the import of post-modern elements. The perception of both locals and tourists on these aspects was evaluated using the survey method. Results outlined more conservative views from the older inhabitants who are still attached to traditional constructing styles, while younger respondents preferred the more modern houses. Most tourists also showed an increased interest in the traditional architecture and criticised the newer constructed buildings. The contrast between old and new, which at this point is ubiquitous in the area, remains an element of intergenerational negotiations and risks the diminishing of the cultural authenticity of Certeze even further.

Abstract. The World Heritage Committee lists every year, several cultural sites as World Heritage properties. Some of these properties balance the notion of a landscape that bears combined works between nature and men, on which vernacular architecture is part of a local tradition of interaction with nature. The 3dPast research project is a European project, coordinated by Escola Superior Gallaecia and co-funded by the European Union, under the Creative Europe programme. The project studies and values vernacular knowledge of these unique places. In Portugal, the Pico landscape was listed as a World Heritage property due to the 500 years of history of local inhabitants adapting farming practices to produce wine, in a challenge environment and in a remote place in the middle of the Atlantic. This article aims to study, the history and the development of the island's architecture and urbanism, based on an ancestral way of life that is still alive nowadays. The scarcity of natural resources and the difficulties to travel between villages and islands emphasised the effects of insularity. However, the continuity of local culture, passed down through generations, created a strong identity, which is source of pride. The cultural landscape classified area includes about 987 hectares, from the parish of Criação Velha, on the south coast, to Santa Luzia, on the north side, covering part of two municipalities of Pico. The article first presents a brief historical background of the island. Following, it focuses on the evolution of human occupation, through the reading of population indicators and traditional architecture and urbanism, recognizing the unique cultural and landscape values within the property. Finally, it discusses the current regulatory framework on territorial planning, and the architectural and urban regulations in planning framework, with particular emphasis on processes and practices at different scales.

Abstract:
In order to supplement and improve the landscape evaluation system of traditional villages and play a positive guiding role in the specific protection and development of village landscape, this paper proposes the ecological landscape environment evaluation of traditional villages in Guanzhong from the perspective of rural revitalization. First of all, the relevant national and provincial evaluation standards are deeply studied, and the comprehensive evaluation system of the traditional village landscape in the Guanzhong region is constructed by using expert scoring and an analytic hierarchy process, which includes 6 criteria and 25 indicators. Three typical villages of different types and different development stages, namely, village A, village B, and Village C, were selected for landscape investigation and comprehensive evaluation. The results show that the weight of village location and landscape pattern is the largest, that is, the most important. The second is architectural landscape, with a weight of 0.236, accounting for a high proportion. Then, it is the natural landscape and street landscape, with a weight of 0.1-0.2. Finally, it is the intangible cultural landscape and landscape style protection, with a weight of less than 0.1. The alpha value of the comprehensive evaluation questionnaire of the village A is 0.984. The alpha value of the comprehensive evaluation questionnaire of village B is 0.941. The alpha value of the comprehensive evaluation questionnaire for the landscape of village C is 0.986, which is greater than 0.8. Conclusion. This study makes a comprehensive evaluation of the landscape of typical traditional villages.

Abstract:
Bethlehem’s territory and the architectural heritage present in its historical city center result from the stratification of different cultural activities, religions, and urban policies that have conditioned the actual image of the urban landscape. The city, apparently conformed as a single urban entity, is structured on multiple apparatuses of complexity, and the application of principles of decomposition and cataloging becomes a fundamental method for the analysis of the built system. To better understand the relationship between the original settlement and the historical quarters of the city, and to define a tool for their conservation and development, the present research project, developed since 2018 in synergy with administrations and local authorities, and scientifically coordinated by the University of Pavia, Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture, seeks to promote a documentation protocol that, starting from a report analysis on landscape and urban context, methodologically defines the development of an integrated digital database, constituted by multiple informative layers, to ensure better management of the city. This contribution illustrates the first step of the survey activities, which represent a preparatory phase for the organization of the digital acquisition campaign, to highlight the structure of current urban development, the divisions in neighborhoods, and the understanding of architectural values, to give guidelines for the enhancement of historical and traditional values of architectural heritage.

Abstract:
Traditional settlements are places that still hold customary and cultural values related to beliefs or religion that are specific or unique to a particular society. In each region of Nusantara there are various cultures, and in it there are traditional settlements as identities. This research is located in the Sendiki beach area which is a tourist attraction in the southern Malang district, precisely in the village of Tambakrejo. The problem is the diminishing public awareness in preserving the existence of settlement forms because of the current of modernization. The unique settlement pattern model in the village of Tambakrejo lined up along the road following the traditional settlement pattern of Tanean Lanjeng, because the settlements were dominated by Madura race. On the other hand because it is located in East Java, the formation of his house was also adapted to the building form of joglo. Another problem is the low public awareness in maintaining environmental quality which impacts the degradation of ecosystem quality. The aims of this research include identifying the architectural forms of houses, landscapes and traditional settlements in the village of Tambakrejo, as an effort to preserve them. The research method was conducted qualitatively by analyzing the data using Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The research thinking is adapted to the ideas of Rapoport. The stages of research start from the identification of physical, biophysical, socio-cultural and economic aspects, to the description of analysis and synthesis in settlement patterns and traditional homes. The results obtained in the form of a description of traditional settlement patterns, the formation of residential architecture and landscape patterns of settlements. The conclusions of this study include documentation of traditional architecture, landscapes and settlements as knowledge to respect the natural environment and culture of the people living.

Among his many written works, Wang’s PhD thesis ‘Fictionalising Cities’ – completed in 2000 under the supervision of Professor Jiwei Lu at Tongji University in Shanghai – is widely considered the definitive statement of his architectural thought and methodology. It comprises a structuralist study of the city and its architecture, doing so through the development of two key themes. The first is Wang’s theoretical discussion of the application of structuralist-semiotic approaches to architecture, urban research, and other areas in the humanities, and the second is his reading of the Chinese city and China’s landscape architecture tradition in the light of this theoretical discussion. Wang believes that traditional Chinese cities have their own structure, components and rules of combination, and refers to them as instances of ‘texture city’ (), a term that proposes an analogy between Roland Barthes’s notion of text and the city, both of which are understood as a ‘fabric of signifiers’.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of places of worship in traditional Mari culture, which are in varying degrees of sacredness. They have so far preserved artifacts and symbols that form the cultural identity of the people. The Mari religion in the most complete local traditions preserves the system of pagan cults and rites. The trend towards the revival of pagan religion and the creation of religious organizations and communities is associated with a general upsurge in national identity. This became necessary in the context of national movements as a means of ethnic self-defense and a factor of ethnocultural revival. Original ethnocultural traditions and formative elements of folk architecture are relevant and important in the design of modern architectural complexes and the creation of small architectural forms in folk architecture, landscape design, and the formation of an ethnocultural environment. Further sacralization of places of worship will contribute to the preservation of natural monuments and the manifestation of artifacts and symbols of cultural identity.

Abstract:
This article briefly covers some pages in the history of creation of the open-air museum in Kyiv, including the input of the memorial protection community and scientists into the museum's growth into a scientific institution, as well as the role of the architectural department (mainly consisting of graduates of Kyiv State Art Institute) in developing the project concept for shaping the museum exhibition. The implemented project suggestion in the form of a system of regional ethnic formations (Mid-Dnieper Ukraine, lands of Poltavshchyna and Slobozhanshchyna, Polissya, Podillya, Carpathian region and the South of Ukraine) organically matched the natural landscape of the location. This presentation is viewed as a model of a traditional environment consisting of preserved buildings and authentic household items. Built on a scientific basis, this kind of monument formation represents a cultural environment close to the traditional one, and provides an accurate coverage of the deep roots of folk Ukrainian architectural, construction and household traditions. Therefore, the formation mentioned above requires competent preservation and maintenance. This paper is illustated with the photos, taken by the author.

Abstract:
The coastline of Western Pomerania has natural and cultural assets that have promoted the development of tourism, but also require additional measures to ensure the traditional features and characteristics are protected. This is to ensure that new developments conform to a more uniform set of spatial structures which are in line with the original culture. Today, seaside resorts are characterized by a rapid increase in development with a clear trend towards non-physiognomic architectural forms which continually expand and encroach on land closer to the coastline. This results in a blurring of the original concepts that characterized the founding seaside resort. This study evaluates 11 development projects (including a range of hotels, luxury residential buildings and hotel suites) built in 2009–2020 in the coastal area of Western Pomerania. An assessment of architecture-and-landscape integration for each development project was made, using four groups of evaluation criteria: aesthetic, socio-cultural, functional and locational factors. The study methodology included a historical and interpretative study (iconology, iconography, historiography) and an examination of architecture-and-landscape integration using a pre-prepared evaluation form. Each criterion was first assessed using both field surveys and desk research (including the analysis of construction plans and developer materials), and then compared with the original, traditional qualities of the town. This study demonstrates that it is possible to clearly identify the potential negative impact of tourism development on the cultural landscape of seaside resorts, and provides recommendations for future shaping, management and conservation of the landscape.

Abstract:
Modern Materials science in Сonstruction is developing in a way of higher functionality, durability, ecological safety of the materials, which also must be easy to work with. The workability of concrete is provided by its property to fill the formwork under the influence of gravity. Small architectural forms (SAF) – are practical and art objects which complement outdoor spaces and enrich architectural, urban and landscape composition of the city. Manufacturing of SAF is complicated by its extraordinary geometric shapes with plenty of tiny elements. This fact limits the usage of traditional technologies of vibration for compaction. In this paper properties and composition of self-compacting concrete (SCC) are discussed, as well as the possibility of its application for thin-walled heavily reinforced constructions to produce unique SAF for landscape design. The obtaining of flowable segregation-resistant concrete mix with low water-cement ratio is studied. The hypothesis of applicability of SCC for SAF in landscape design is based on high deformability, flowability and consolidation by means of its own weight without segregation. The methodology of the research is based on the literature review concerning the usage of SCC for SAF with some special additives with plasticizing and anti-segregating affects. The investigation showed that SCC is applicable for SAF in landscape design.
