Full textThe thesis studies oral narration, i. E. How fiction represents the encounter between story teller and listeners. The analyses are based on examples drawn from ancient latin and greek novels, as well as modern and contemporary novels referred to for comparison and verification. This study is achieved by thinking up a dynamics of narrative exchange rather than describing the forms of uterrances. Besides, it requires that textual communication be differentiated from inter-individual communication. Thanks to this observation i hypothetise the idea of paradoxical rhetoric, viz. The nove l justifies narration thanks to the representation of an unascribable object whose single locus is the page and which epitomises neither written communication nor oral narrative as historical practice. This hypothesis is subsequently put to the test of texts. Although it is possible to describe the topics of tale's representation, such a perspective is only a prerequisite to analyse the tension between the novel's text and oral narration. On the one hand, the representation of narrative desire as an infinite demand of presence stands in opposition to the denouement taking place in the page. On the other, the voice which imposes the narrative in the text interferes with the origin of the novel's text. Eventually, i emphasise the link between hermeneutic work and the illusion of co-presence

Full textIn the middle of the 15th century, in central Vanuatu, the Kuwae volcano erupted. This cataclysm with global consequences gave rise, on a local scale, to the dislocation of a mythical island into an archipelago — the Shepherd Islands. For dozens of generations, the descendants of the pre-eruption people have been transmitting and confronting their versions of the Kuwae myth, particularly in the context of land disputes. These legitimizing discourses, endowed with a social efficacy at the very moment of their enunciation, summon a panoply of proofs, by virtue of a certain logic of historical truth. In the 1960s, it was these historico-mythical discourses from the old chiefdoms that enabled the archaeologist José Garanger to discover burials, thus corroborating the historical reliability of the oral tradition. Based on three distinct genres of discourse on the past, collected in the field in the Namakura and Nakanamanga languages, we propose to document and study the socio-historical scope of the Kuwae myth

Full textThis thesis aims at analyzing the collective memory content imbedded in an oral literature speech performance, right from the message transmission to its understanding and preservation. We are to explain how an oral literature speech production and its performance can retitute the Loma cultural values. The epic retraces the history of a former war leader among the Loma people of the Republic of Guinea; a history which still remains a vibrant part of the people's culture in that country. Because it doesn't exist any former written version of the epic, we ensured its transcription into Lɔɠɔmagooh language (a loma variant) and also its translation into French language.Beside the geographical and cultural presentation of the Loma area and people, the real corpus analysis in which we mobilize both performance and rethorics also takes into account the multicoding nature of the social, historical and cultural messages and their reception dynamics. We focus attention on the specific discursive technics of oral literature or tradition which exist in tales and proverbs. However, our work is not just limited to transcription and translation of the epic production. Our analysis shows how oral tradition constitutes an essential dimension of the epic genre whose discursive and referential deepness is the reflection of the artistic and memorial work of the orator

Full textThe aim of the thesis is to analyse the discourse of folk songs of Guérande, area of Brittany, France. This study is based on Guériff's collection. It makes use of the discourse linguistic analysis, which is an approach at the junction of semantic theory and discourse analysis. As a theoretical objective, the research validate a semantic model of lexical meaning. By looking at the value framework contained in the discourse, including how it is built and conveyed, the thesis analyses also the specific constituents of the studied discourse. For that purpose, an argumentative and modal approach is used to study the discursive construction of the two semantic representations: ‘soldat’ and ‘mariage’. The results lead to develop a set of new ideas linking semantic mechanisms and discourse functions, which makes up a sound basis for further ethnomusicology researches

Full textOur thesis is concerned with the semiotics of cultures applied to a literary work, and we have chosen Jia Pingwa's rural novels as our corpus. Here, Jia Pingwa's rural novels, our research corpus, are examined through the prism of narrative semiotics and interpretive methodology, interpreted vs. interpreting. Our research involves two issues. On the one hand, the interpretation of Jia Pingwa's rural novels for a scientific, legitimate and effective purpose, and, on the other hand, the liveliness and novelty that this corpus brings to semiotics, insofar as we have had to overcome the difficulties related to the scope of the corpus examined. In the first problematic, the aim of the studies is to discover the narrative factors and, above all, the identities of the works in their path to becoming. This implies two orders, one of which is paradigmatic, the semantic levels, and the other syntagmatic, the arrangements of the three narrative planes, known as cognitive, pragmatic and thymic. Furthermore, the identities and social practices in Jia Pingwa's works are explored through the generic links between discourse and the situations in which they are produced. In this sense, we are working on a sociosemiotics applied to literature. To meet these imperatives, our objective has been to establish a textual semiotics using the semiotics of cultures dealing with the relationship between the discourse and the situations in which it manifests, the narrative semiotics leading to a componential analysis, corresponding respectively to the different orders, so-called extra- and intra-textual

Full textFar from the oecumenical celebration and the negritudian idealization of pre-colonial africa on the one hand, and the worship of formal franch language made from writers of his generation on the other hand, kourouma elaborates a new and deliberately inconoclastic and novelistic aesthetics in his novels. Half-way between oral tradition and classical novel writing, kouroumian aesthetics is embeded in an enunciative problematic. If the ultimate goal of this study is the expression of high degree, our approch is double-sided : showing the influence of oral tradition on the novelist's writing through his excessive use of hyperbole in the narration ; showing, by the description of linguistic expressiveness mechanism, in general, how the essential concern of the quest for a discursive credibility is solved. Among other subjects, we deal here with the frame of kouroumian aesthetics, that is, the problem of linguistic interferences and peculiarities, the problem of synonyms, polysemy and lexical creation. Un other words, without pretending to be exhaustive, this linguistic and semantic study intends to answer the questions of expressive and affective syntax, of grammar and, above all, of psychological and socio-cultural conditions of enunciation

Full textBased on the copy of marcel proust's contre sainte-beuve and a la recherche du temps perdu manuscripts, this thesis wants to show the writer's work and his hesitations. It compares the character's speeches to define all the morphological categories. Oral speech and interior speech often have the same morphological types. But the "internal oralised monologue", a kind of oralised dujardin's interior monologue, is between them. The speech which is told "reported speech" is not, in fact, perhaps, because the reporting instance - narrator says what he wants to say. Is there only one free indirect style? have we to distinguish narration of words or thoughts from narration about words or thoughts? ne tried to answer these questions in analysing the speeches' functions in la recherche. This thesis proposes a new approach of the character's speech in the fiction
