Abstract:

This paper describes the implementation of an execution history, called "Amazing Trace", that entails decoding and analyzing a recorded instruction trace, and in particular the design and implementation of a data structure which can encapsulate the entire state of the target system, including memory and registers, over time, and to do this efficiently because the trace buffer can contain data for hundreds of thousands of instructions.

The Amazing Trace is also integrated in the IAR Embedded Workbench C-SPYDebugger, such that the history can be traversed both forwards and backwards while inspecting the full target state through the normal debugger windows.

Abstract:
Counterfeit products, particularly pharmaceuticals, electronic devices, and apparels, are widespread. They threaten consumer safety and cause huge economic losses to licit supply chain partners and governments. Although a number of traditional anti-counterfeiting technologies, such as holograms and chemical tags, are available to combat counterfeiting, they are vulnerable to imitation or being reused. Besides, these technologies are intended to protect individual items, rather than to safeguard an entire supply chain. As such, fake products may likely be injected into the supply chain to hurt end-consumers. Track-and-trace technology based on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has recently emerged as a promising tool to combat counterfeiting, because of its automatic and non-line-of-sight capability to identify massive product items. By maintaining an electronic pedigree (e-pedigree) that records the transaction information of product items along the supply chain, this approach stands out for protecting the supply chain against infiltration, eliminating theft and fraud, facilitating recall of defective products, and supporting remote authentication. However, a number of technical and critical issues have yet to be solved for practical implementation of RFID-based track-and-trace anti-counterfeiting. These include generation of accurate initial product e-pedigree in fast moving manufacturing lines, precise e-pedigree updating in batch product distributing and receiving, and fast e- pedigree queries for remote and real-time product authentication from end-customers. Without fully addressing these issues, the accumulated product e-pedigree data would be untrustworthy, rendering any subsequent operations of track-and-trace and product authentication unreliable. This thesis investigates the crucial implementation issues in RFID-based track-and-trace anti-counterfeiting. It firstly presents an innovative track-and-trace anti-counterfeiting system, based on which a TDPS algorithm is proposed for generation of initial product e-pedigree in fast moving production lines. The TDPS overcomes many practical issues, such as tag writing error and tag locking failure, and helps identify the bottleneck of initial product e-pedigree generation. To tackle the bottleneck, the TDPS is further optimized by incorporating a block writing method to enhance the tag EPC writing efficiency and an integration method to balance the overhead of RFID equipment. In product distributing and receiving, a mechanized 3D scanning method is proposed to improve bulk item identification rate and enhance the accuracy and completeness of product e-pedigree. Indeed, RFID-based track-and-trace anti-counterfeiting mandates a relatively high bulk item identification rate for product authentication and e-pedigree updating. Experimental results demonstrate that the mechanized 3D scanning can achieve a bulk item reading rate of up to 98.9%, which largely outperforms the widely documented bulk reading rate (70%) in real applications. In retailing level, the efficiency of e-pedigree queries would hugely impact on customer shopping experience and the effectiveness of track-and-trace anti-counterfeiting. A partition-based method is therefore developed to cluster product e-pedigree data to improve the speed of e-pedigree queries. This approach partitions the accumulated e-pedigree data into fixed and dynamic groups, such that queries are conducted mainly on active data, rather than on the whole historical data sets. By addressing the above key issues, this thesis contributes to making implementation of RFID-based track-and-trace anti-counterfeiting practically viable and reliable.

Abstract:
Multi-threading is commonly applied in modern computer programs, bringing many conveniences but also causing concurrency issues. Among the various error debugging tools, Java Pathfinder (JPF) can detect latent errors of multithreaded Java programs through model checking. However, the text-based format of the output trace is hard to read, and previous attempts in visualizing JPF traces show limitations. For long-term development, popular trace analytic platform such as Trace Compass (TC) is extended to adapt to JPF traces. In this thesis, the development of JPF and TC makes it possible to analyze JPF traces on TC with a user interface including visual diagrams. The development solves the conceptual differences between the tools and successfully visualize important trace data. The implementation can help provide a generic approach for analyzing JPF traces with visualization.

In the setting of the trace reconstruction problem, a uniform random binary sequence w [epsilon] {0, 1}n yields a collection of traces, such that each subsequence is obtained by independently deleting each bit with a public probability parameter p. In this thesis we explore a restricted version of this problem, in which each trace is a random subsequence of one of two original known sequences. Given a series of traces, we would like to device a method that allows to us to decide from which sequence, from the pair of known public sequences w, w', do all the traces come from. The question we will try to solve in this thesis is to know if such a method, operating with high probability and polynomially many samples, is possible in practice. Among other things, we show that if the two strings are drawn uniformly at random there is an algorithm that allows to efficiently distinguish with high probability the traces they produce, failing only on an exponentially small proportion of the random pairs. Additionally we explore variants of this problem and their connections with a number theoretic known as the Prouhet-Tarry-Escott problem.

Abstract:
From pre-figurative traces, we analyze the psychic process involved in the experience of separation/individuation mother/baby. Organizing moment of psychic space of ego and processes of identity, the emergence of the pre-figurative traces determines this experience of rupture in the continuity of oneself and reveals the way how the divergence and the difference reshaped in the material of the support itself. They lead to concrete reference an evolutionary grapho-psychic trajectory energy from the symbolic trace equation systems, time of fusion with the object, to pre-symbolic traces, time of defusion from the object, before becoming symbols. The transformation process is thus displaced from mother environment towards the trace, through the process experience, the experience working though. The subject is led to take place in an external construction of the symbolic capacity system, genesis of the link with the material object. As opposed to the observance, we can see how some painter masterpieces present us what seemed an out of the way place : the primal loss

Lam, Wai Sze Tiffany. "Anisotropic Ray Trace." Diss., The University of Arizona, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/556957.

Full text
Abstract:
Optical components made of anisotropic materials, such as crystal polarizers and crystal waveplates, are widely used in many complex optical system, such as display systems, microlithography, biomedical imaging and many other optical systems, and induce more complex aberrations than optical components made of isotropic materials. The goal of this dissertation is to accurately simulate the performance of optical systems with anisotropic materials using polarization ray trace. This work extends the polarization ray tracing calculus to incorporate ray tracing through anisotropic materials, including uniaxial, biaxial and optically active materials. The 3D polarization ray tracing calculus is an invaluable tool for analyzing polarization properties of an optical system. The 3×3 polarization ray tracing P matrix developed for anisotropic ray trace assists tracking the 3D polarization transformations along a ray path with series of surfaces in an optical system. To better represent the anisotropic light-matter interactions, the definition of the P matrix is generalized to incorporate not only the polarization change at a refraction/reflection interface, but also the induced optical phase accumulation as light propagates through the anisotropic medium. This enables realistic modeling of crystalline polarization elements, such as crystal waveplates and crystal polarizers. The wavefront and polarization aberrations of these anisotropic components are more complex than those of isotropic optical components and can be evaluated from the resultant P matrix for each eigen-wavefront as well as for the overall image. One incident ray refracting or reflecting into an anisotropic medium produces two eigenpolarizations or eigenmodes propagating in different directions. The associated ray parameters of these modes necessary for the anisotropic ray trace are described in Chapter 2. The algorithms to calculate the P matrix from these ray parameters are described in Chapter 3 for anisotropic ray tracing. This P matrix has the following characteristics: (1) Multiple P matrices are calculated to describe the polarization of the multiple eigenmodes at an anisotropic intercept. (2) Each P matrix maps the orthogonal incident basis vectors (Ê_m, Ê_n, Ŝ) before the optical interface into three orthogonal exiting vectors (a_m Ê'_m, a_n Ê'_n, Ŝ') after the interface, where a_m and a_n are the complex amplitude coefficients induced at the intercept. The ray tracing algorithms described in this dissertation handle three types of uncoated anisotropic interfaces isotropic/anisotropic, anisotropic/isotropic and anisotropic/anisotropic interfaces. (3) The cumulative P matrix associated with multiple surface interactions is calculated by multiplying individual P matrices in the order along the ray path. Many optical components utilize anisotropic materials to induce desired retardance. This important mechanism is modeled as the optical phase associated with propagation. (4) The optical path length OPL of an eigenpolarization along an anisotropic ray path is incorporated into the calculation of each P matrix. Chapter 4 presents the data reduction of the P matrix of a crystal waveplate. The diattenuation is embedded in the singular values of P. The retardance is divided into two parts: (A) The physical retardance induced by OPLs and surface interactions, and (B) the geometrical transformation induced by geometry of a ray path, which is calculated by the geometrical transform Q matrix. The Q matrix of an anisotropic intercept is derived from the generalization of s- and p-bases at the anisotropic intercept; the p basis is not confined to the plane of incidence due to the anisotropic refraction or reflection. Chapter 5 shows how the multiple P matrices associated with the eigenmodes resulting from propagation through multiple anisotropic surfaces can be combined into one P matrix when the multiple modes interfere in their overlapping regions. The resultant P matrix contains diattenuation induced at each surface interaction as well as the retardance due to ray propagation and total internal reflections. The polarization aberrations of crystal waveplates and crystal polarizers are studied in Chapter 6 and Chapter 7. A wavefront simulated by a grid of rays is traced through the anisotropic system and the resultant grid of rays is analyzed. The analysis is complicated by the ray doubling effects and the partially overlapping eigen-wavefronts propagating in various directions. The wavefront and polarization aberrations of each eigenmode can be evaluated from the electric field distributions. The overall polarization at the plane of interest or the image quality at the image plane are affected by each of these eigen-wavefronts. Isotropic materials become anisotropic due to stress, strain, or applied electric or magnetic fields. In Chapter 8, the P matrix for anisotropic materials is extended to ray tracing in stress birefringent materials which are treated as spatially varying anisotropic materials. Such simulations can predict the spatial retardance variation throughout the stressed optical component and its effects on the point spread function and modulation transfer function for different incident polarizations. The anisotropic extension of the P matrix also applies to other anisotropic optical components, such as anisotropic diffractive optical elements and anisotropic thin films. It systematically keeps track of polarization transformation in 3D global Cartesian coordinates of a ray propagating through series of anisotropic and isotropic optical components with arbitrary orientations. The polarization ray tracing calculus with this generalized P matrix provides a powerful tool for optical ray trace and allows comprehensive analysis of complex optical system.

Indeed, the variegation of the Tar Heel State's landscapes, as well as its rich history, is reflected through the myriad voices of its contemporary verse. As with other volumes of The Southern Poetry Anthology, this book--full of a wide gamut of poetic styles and approaches--will appeal to many readers, prove an excellent teaching resource for North Carolina students of literature, and serve as the definitive poetic document for North Carolina for many years.Conceived by Series Editor William Wright in 2003, The Southern Poetry Anthology is a projected twelve-to-sixteen volume project celebrating established and emerging poets of the American South, published by Texas Review Press. Inspired by single-volume anthologies such as Leon Stokesbury's The Made Thing, Gil Allen's A Ninety-Six Sampler, and Guy Owen and Mary C. Williams' Contemporary Southern Poetry: an Anthology, The Southern Poetry Anthology aspires to provide readers with a documentary-like survey of the best poetry being written in the American South at the present moment.Specifically, the editors' goals are twofold: first, to re-establish poetry of the South as a major presence in American literature, and second, to include a greater range of poets from the South to introduce a new poetic geography, a fresh corpus of what we understand to be "Southern Poetry."

Trace can be thought of as a copy, a small amount of something, evidence, a remnant, vestige, residue or mark. Trace can also be considered more actively as a verb, meaning to follow, track or locate. The studio production that I am engaged with encompasses all of these meanings. My MFA research project specifically investigates trace from rust. Rust, also referred to as iron oxide, is a by-product of the breakdown or oxidation1 of iron, and it develops in the presence of oxygen, moisture and time. In my studio practice, I transfer rust onto various materials and it is the resultant vestigial marks, or ‘traces’, that are at the core of my MFA studio explorations.

Abstract:
The atmospheric transport of various substances from the continents to the oceans plays an important role in biogeochemical processes. Trace metals, iron in particular is of great interest as its availability regulates the growth of phytoplankton over large areas of the ocean. This dissertation focuses on examining and characterizing the factors that affect the solubility of trace metals in Miami and Barbados aerosols and precipitation, in particular species that could play a role in surface seawater biogeochemistry (Fe and trace metals such as Al, V, Cr, Mn, Cu, Co, Ni, Zn, As, Tl, Ba, Cd, Pb, Th, Ti, Zr, and REE's). To enable this study existing methods of colorimetric spectroscopic and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry analysis were improved and modified. This dissertation examines several issues related to source inputs: 1.) Are single spot sources within the North African dust source distinguishable after long transport by their bulk metal composition and thus important in the characteristics of individual mineral dust samples? 2.) What is the temporal variability and controlling factors in trace metal solubility in trade wind aerosols collected over Barbados? 3.) Which factors control the observed trend of speciation and increasing iron solubility in decreasing aerosol loading? Additionally a kinetic model of species specific iron (II) to iron(III) oxidation kinetics in NaCl Brines was conducted at nano-molar levels. This study greatly expands the ability to predict rates of iron oxidation at concentrations closer to those observed in natural systems.

Abstract:
The increasing load of toxic elements entering the ecosystems, as a consequence of anthropogenic processes, has grown public awareness in the last decades, resulting in a great number of studies focusing on pollution sources, transport, distribution, interactions with living organisms and remediation. Physical/chemical processes that drive the uptake, assimilation, compartmentation and translocation of heavy metals in biota has received a great deal of attention recently, since elemental concentrations and isotopic composition in biological matrices can be used as  probes of both natural and anthropogenic sources. Further they can help to evaluate fate of contaminants and to assess bioavailability of such elements in nature. While poorly defined isotopic pools, multiple sources and fractionating processes add complexity to source identification studies, tracing is hindered mainly by poorly known or unidentified fractionating factors. High precision isotope ratio measurements have found increasing application in various branches of science, from classical isotope geochronology to complex multi-tracer experiments in environmental studies. Instrumental development and refining separation schemes have allowed higher quality data to be obtained and played a major role in the recent progress of the field. The use of modern techniques such as inductively coupled plasma sector field mass spectrometry (ICP-SFMS) and multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS) for trace and ultra-trace element concentrations and isotope ratio measurements have given new opportunities.  However, sources of errors must be accurately evaluated and avoided at every procedural step. Moreover, even with the utilization of sound analytical measurement protocols, source and process tracing in natural systems can be complicated further by spatial and temporal variability. The work described in the present thesis has been focused primarily on analytical method development, optimization and evaluation (including sample preparation, matrix separation, instrumental analysis and data evaluation stages) for isotopic and multi-elemental analyses in environmental samples at trace and ultra-trace levels. Special attention was paid to evaluate strengths and limitations of the methods as applied to complex natural environments, aiming at correct interpretation of isotopic results in environmental forensics. The analytical protocols covered several isotope systems of both stable (Cd, B, Cr, Cu, Fe, Tl and Zn) and radiogenic (Os, Pb and Sr) elements. Paper I was dedicated to the optimization and testing of a rapid and high sample throughput method for Os concentrations and isotope measurements by ICP-SFMS. If microwave (MW) digestion followed by sample introduction to ICP-SFMS by traditional solution nebulization (SN) offered unparalleled throughput important for processing large number of samples, high-pressure ashing (HPA) combined with gas-phase introduction (GPI) proved to be advantageous for samples with low (below 500 pg) analyte content. The method was applied to a large scale bio-monitoring case, confirming accumulation of anthropogenic Os in animals from an area affected by emissions from a stainless steel foundry. The method for Cr concentrations and isotope ratios in different environmental matrices was optimized in Paper II. A coupling between a high pressure/temperature acid digestion and a one pass, single column matrix separation allowed the analysis of chromites, soils, and biological matrices (first Cr isotope study in lichens and mosses) by ICP-SFMS and MC-ICP-MS. With an overall reproducibility of 0.11‰ (2σ), the results suggested a uniform isotope composition in soil depth profiles. On the other hand a strong negative correlation found between δ53Cr and Cr concentrations in lichens and mosses indicates that airborne Cr from local anthropogenic source(s) is depleted in heavy isotopes, therefore highlighting the possibility of utilization of Cr isotopes to trace local airborne pollution source from steel foundries.   Paper III describes development of high-precision Cd isotope ratio measurement by MC-ICP-MS in a variety of environmental matrices. Several digestion methods (HPA, MW, ultrawave and ashing) were tested for sample preparation, followed by analyte separation from matrix using ion-exchange chromatography. The reproducibility of the method (2σ for δ114Cd/110Cd) was found to be better than 0.1‰. The method was applied to a large number of birch leaves (n>80) collected at different locations and growth stages. Cd in birch leaves is enriched in heavier isotopes relative to the NIST SRM 3108 Cd standard with a mean δ114Cd/110Cd of 0.7‰. The fractionation is assumed to stem from sample uptake through the root system and element translocation in the plant and it exhibits profound between-tree as well as seasonal variations. The latter were compared with seasonal isotopic variations for other isotopic systems (Zn, Os, Pb) in the same trees to aid a better understanding of underlying processes. In Paper IV the number of isotope systems studied was extended to include B, Cd, Cu, Fe, Pb, Sr, Tl and Zn. The analytical procedure utilized a high pressure acid digestion (UltraCLAVE), which provides complete oxidation of the organic material in biological samples, and a two-column ion-exchange separation which represents further development of the separation scheme described in Paper III. Such sample preparation ensures low blank levels, efficient separation of matrix elements, sufficiently high analyte recoveries and reasonably high sample throughput. The method was applied to a large number of biological samples (n>240) and the data obtained represent the first combined characterization of variability in isotopic composition for eight elements in leaves, needles, lichens and mushrooms collected from a geographically confined area. To further explore the reason of variability observed, soil profiles from the same area were analyzed for both concentrations and isotopic compositions of B, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Pb, Sr, Tl and Zn in Paper V. Results of this study suggest that the observed high variability can be dependent on operationally-defined fractions (assessed by applying a modified SEP to process soil samples) and on the typology of the individual matrix analyzed (assessed through the coupling of soil profile results to those obtained for other matrices: lysimetric waters, mushrooms, litter, needles, leaves and lichens). The method development conducted in this work highlights the importance of considering all possible sources of biases/errors as well as possibility to use overlapping sample preparation schemes for multi-isotope studies. The results obtained for different environmental matrices represent a starting point for discussing the role of natural isotopic variability in isotope applications and forensics, and the importance of in-depth knowledge of the multiple parameters affecting the variability observed.

Abstract:
Effective dynamic virtual-machine optimization depends on quickly finding and optimizing frequently-executed code regions. Such regions are naturally represented with a trace-cache, a collection of long, frequently-executed sequences of instructions. An ideal trace-cache is small and captures the majority of the program's execution stream, yet consists of traces large enough to allow for useful inter-bytecode optimizations and improve instruction-fetch performance. This thesis describes an efficient dynamic technique for finding and constructing such traces.
Our trace caching algorithm relies on three innovative techniques: profiling data is managed with the Branch Implication Graph(BI-Graph) data structure, decomposing the program into small, independent, tree-like components using our hot subgraph filters the BI-Graph for relevant data, and traces are constructed from components using a minimum-bounded expected completion rate.
We evaluated the runtime performance of our generated traces using a trace cache simulator implemented on top of the Java Virtual Machine, SableVM. Tested against Java benchmarks, our primary data structure, the BI-Graph, scales linearly with the loaded program size and is no larger than a control flow graph. On our benchmarks set, our traces capture 98.5% of the executed instructions, average 34 bytecodes instructions in length, and execute to completion 98.5% of the time. Further, the total size of all traces created scales linearly at 83% of the program's size, averaging only 50000 bytecodes. The entire algorithm, including context-sensitive, branch bias profiling and trace creation, has a projected overhead of only 4.5%. Thus, our algorithm efficiently constructs a small trace cache consisting of long traces that both tend to execute to completion and capture the majority of the execution stream.

This thesis describes the development of an automatic generator of backtracking protocol trace analysis tools for single-module specifications written in the formal description language, Estelle. The generated tool automatically checks the validity of any execution trace against the given specification. The approach taken was to modify an Estelle-to-C++ compiler. Discussion about nondeterministic specifications, multiple observation points, and on-line trace analysis follow. Trace analyzers for the protocols LAPD and TP0 have been tested and performance results are evaluated. Issues in the analysis of partial traces are discussed.

Abstract:
Developments in analytical techniques have allowed study of the concentrations of more than thirty elements in biological tissues. These methods have been applied to blood and brain tissues from patients with a wide range of psychiatric illness. Increases in blood vanadium concentrations in affective illness are discussed in relation to possible disturbance of noradrenaline metabolism. It is suggested that high vanadium levels may reflect high circulatory levels of noradrenaline but direct evidence of such a link has not yet been obtained. Discussions of elements in dementia centres mainly on aluminium and zinc: the possibility of low zinc concentrations being relevant becomes more likely as evidence accumulates for the role of zinc in hippocampal function. Glutamatergic transmission is likely to be crucial in this context and evidence is presented for an association between glutamate and the rare earth elements cerium and lanthanum in caudate nucleus of schizophrenics. Whether these will prove to have a fucntional role in hippocampus remains to be seen, but possible implications for modulation of striatal dopaminergic function, via glutamatergic corticostriatal tracts, are discussed. Reduction of caesium may be important through altered GABAergic transmission and reduction of indium may reflect changes in dopaminergic neuronal activity. It is considered that this work on human tissue is giving indications of which elements need to be studied in laboratory experiments to elucidate their role in neuronal transmission and, therefore, in psychiatric illness.

Abstract:
This thesis describes new analytical methods for trace or ultra-trace analysis by molecular absorption and emission spectroscopy. The initial part of the thesis is devoted to an introduction to molecular electromagnetic absorption spectroscopy and molecular fluorescence. The principles, advantages and limitations of spectrophotometric and fluorimetric measurement are discussed. The concepts of enzymes and their applications in analytical chemistry are also expounded. Two organic compounds, 5-( 4-arsonophenylazo )-8-(p-toluenesulfonamido)quinoline (APTSQ) and 5-(p-methoxyphenylazo)-8-(p-toluenesulfonamido) quinoline (MPTSQ), have been synthesised and used as new chromogenic anellor f1uorogenic reagents. Five specific, highly sensitive, simple, precise and inexpensive novel analytical methods have been developed: (1) A spectrophotometric method is described for the determination of cobalt. The maximum absorbance is at 582 nm with a molar absorptivity of 1.18 x 1 as I mor' cm-1 . Beer's law is obeyed for cobalt concentrations in the range 0-0.5 J.l.g mr'. (2) A fluorimetric method for the determination of cobalt is proposed. The fluorescence intensity is measured at Aex 287 nm and Aem 376 nm. The response is linear up to 25 ng mr' and the detection limit is 0.002 ng mr'. The mechanism of the fluorescence reaction has been investigated. (3) A flu~ri~etric method is proposed for the d~ter~i~~tion of H202. The response IS linear up to 12.2 ng mr H:t>2. The detection limit IS 0.16 ng mr'. (4) An enzymatic assay for glucose by spectrofluorimetry is described. The fluorescence intensity is proportional to the concentration of glucose up t0180 ng mr'. A detection limit of 5.4 ng mr' was obtained and allowed the determination of glucose in an extremely small amount of serum (O.5J.1.I) and urine (1 J.l.1). (5) A fluorimetric method for the determination of iron is proposed, based on the reaction between iron(III) and MPTSQ in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide. The fluorescence intenSity (Aex=317 nm, A.em=534 nm) is linear up to 170 ng mr' with a detection limit of 0.12 n9 mr'. An investigation of the mechanism of the fluorescence reaction has been made. The applications of the proposed methods for the determination of the concerned analytes at low levels in biological, environmental, pharmaceutical or beverage samples are also reported.

Abstract:
The spectroscopy of trace atmospheric species covered in this thesis is of wide and varied interest to the scientific community. The atmospheric applications of spectroscopic data include atmospheric modelling, remote sensing, and water vapour transport studies which are increasingly relevant to studies of our environmental impact as a species. Aside from the atmospheric applications, several of the molecules studied here are relevant in astronomical contexts, including ammonia, which was the first polyatomic molecule observed in the interstellar medium. In all these fields accurate rovibrational assignment of empirical molecular spectra is imperative, and where it is not available high quality variational line lists can provide vital information to take its place. This thesis sets out to improve the state of knowledge of spectroscopic parameters for the trace atmospheric species, 14NH3, HD16O, HD17O, HD18O, and HTO. The results comprise many new assignments and several new line lists which I hope to be of value to the wider scientific community. The ammonia assignments come as part of a complete re-analysis of the HITRAN ammonia data, in which we also recommend a new labelling scheme for ammonia in order to uniquely specify multiply-excited degenerate states. We also provide new composite line lists for several previously unobserved hot bands of ammonia. Significant HD18O and HTO assignments are obtained via analysis of two laboratory spectra due to Orphal et al. and Kobayashi et al. respectively. This work made use of new variational line lists for the HDO, D2O, HTO and T2O isotopologues of water which are also presented herein. For the three HDO isotopologues new line lists are used in combination with the highly accurate empirical energy levels of the IUPAC Task Group in order to provide high quality composite line lists. I believe that these line lists represent the best compilation of spectroscopic parameters available at present for these species.

Abstract:
The aspiration for conceptualising the body has been implanted in centuries or ideology and illusions. As soon as we leave. In clinics, the quiet work affecting representations, we fall in a polymorphic semiology, the psycho-analytical and emotional theories can't quite surround any more. When the unconscious stops to be a tight division between the emotional and the physiological bodies, when it makes itself flesh and not only intra-psychic conflict. The bodie statute has to be reactuallized. This body being not only subject to the historical control, becames historical control itself by the memory it carries. It is the one of the irretrievable cleavage which lays the emotional body at one of its sides, to secure, on the other side. A continuity in the order of the symbolics. The vestigial archaic devil will have to find a meaning. To understand a memory under the emotional aspect. Allows us to outline a new concept of the psychosomatic and psychotherapeutic clinics. The straining of the muscles, for instance, is shown as a defence against the emotion and is productive of somatical troubles. Then it is the "metabolisation" of the emotion that accounts for the specificity of the symbolisation

As some microelements are involved into enzyme catalysis reactions, which are held in the osteogenic cells, so in case of their deficit or imbalance some processes are interrupted such as osteoblastic and osteoclastic differentiation, apatite crystallization process, cell-cell collaboration. Abstract:
The purpose of this work is to follow some very important questions which go through most of derrida's texts. In order to do that i've chosed to discuss derrida's interpretation of husserl's phenomenology on the one hand, and derrida's confrontation with heidegger on the other hand. Derrida's interest in husserl's thinking relies on the problem of the phenomenological genesis of the transcendental. According to derrida, such a phenomenological genesis is impossible, but this failure points out an irreducible contamination between the transcendental and the empirical which is not a formal structure, but the very issue of thinking. This contamination means a double fidelity : a fidelity to the transcendental meant as the possibility for a meaning to open up a way through time and world, without being bound to a sheer disappearing. A fidelity to the empirical meant as singularity, contingency, without any guarantee for eternity. The contamination of the empirical and the transcendental means that there is something else and something more in what happens than is pure possibility. The notions of trace and writing become the paradigm of this contamination. Derrida's thinking of trace is an alternative to the heideggerian thinking of being. It is a challenge to the very idea of the originary finitude of dasein's temporality and to the idea of a history of metaphysics grounded in an original sendig of being. Derrida questions the possibility of thinking man as dasein and the possibility of ontological difference itself

Leigh, Brooke. "Drawn-out: trace and catharsis." Thesis, The University of Sydney, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/2123/18703.

Full text
Abstract:
My investigations into the relationship between drawing, performativity and the unconscious mind began with an interest in the Surrealist concept of ‘automatic drawing’ and its subsequent iteration in Abstract Expressionism as a methodology for improvisation. My Honours project initiated this investigation through a series of large-scale abstract charcoal drawings and silkscreen prints that attempted to subvert the conscious control implicit in traditional notions of drawing by setting in motion the body’s autonomous energies. By the end of this project I had begun to explore how ideas such as repressed memory and psychic inhibition related to my practice. I was interested in using drawing as a tool of tactility and immediacy to facilitate connections between mind, body and paper. Drawn-out: the intersection of action, trace and the self explores the act of encountering liminal states of the body as an experience of catharsis. By inducing such states through psychological, physical and emotional intensity, within the context of performance art, artists can enact a display of agony and pain which subjects the audience to draw upon their own experiences of fear and suffering. (For example, an artist knelt on the ground, pushing a 3kg lump of chalk back and forth in front of their head until exhaustion.) Through Aristotle’s notion of catharsis (the purgation or cleansing of painful emotions) and Amelia Jones’ theories of performativity, this Research Paper will investigate how the performative act or event has the potential to function as a form of catharsis for both artist and audience. I will look to drawing as a residual trace, which has the potential to embody the intensity of sensations experienced by the artist during the performative process. Here, in particular, I discuss Jones’ analysis of artistic labour and materiality in ‘Materiality traces: Performativity, artistic “Work,” and new concepts of agency’ (2015). Through Henri Bergson’s notion of successive sensations, I examine how the intensity of sensations experienced by the body affectively cause its transformation. Repetition and duration are integral aspects to the increase of intensity. Here, the artist’s body visually (and audibly) transitions through psychic states as the intensity of sensations (such as pain) increase. The Research Paper takes an interest in how the audience have the potential to experience the affective sensations (Bergson’s term) evoked by the intensity (display of liminal states such as exhaustion and suffering) of the artist’s performance. Sound is a key component emerging in my practice as it communicates the intensity of the action performed by the artist’s body, which is not always visually explicit. Sound emphasises the weight of the material object or the force exerted at the point of contact, and the sensibilities endured by the fatiguing body (such as heavy breathing or exasperations). The Research Paper draws upon Maurice Blanchot’s notion of passivity The Writing of the Disaster, (1980), in relation to the sensation of loss of agency and sense of self, and the fear this engenders. I will discuss how performative works evoke these sensations physically through the artist’s live body (such as Body Tracks by Ana Mendieta and Rhythm 0 by Marina Abramovic), and representations of traumatic experiences and psychic states through unconscious mark-marking (such as Louise Bourgeois’ Insomnia Drawings and Tracey Emin’s mono-prints). Here the paper explores how artists encounter repressed memories and anxiety as a performative process (through unconscious modes of art-making), cathartic experience (as a way of coming to terms with particular emotions rooted in traumatic experiences), and as subject matter. I specifically focus on anxiety (its physical symptoms, psychological affects and emotional state) in Louise Bourgeois’ practice. With particular reference to Sigmund Freud’s On Psychopathology: Inhibitions, Symptoms and Anxiety and Other Works (1979), I examine anxiety as an emotion, and a particular psychological condition. The work I will present for my Masters examination is a video and audio installation (documenting a recent durational performance), and a series of text-based mono-prints. Directly related to a series of similar performances over the last two years this installation will significantly extend my exploration into the use of sound as ‘trace’. The mono-prints depict the anxiety induced by repressed memories – the psychological and emotional intensity – which drives my performance. This is the ‘score’ for my performance.

A second set of questions pertained to the existence of differential item functioning (DIF) and testlet functioning (DTF) for the various classification decisions using ethnicity and gender as the grouping variables. Since referral and placement are dependent, two different types of testlets were formed; a referral and placement testlet and a referral, placement, and retention testlet. Test data and educational classification decisions were analyzed for 352 kindergarten children. The resulting "item" parameters were similar to those that might be expected from conventional test items. The a parameters where high and positive for both the individual classification decisions and for the testlets indicating adequate discrimination for the various decisions as a function of ability and that the decisions are related to a single underlying variable. The location parameters for the three decisions were low on the ability continuum. The location parameter for placement was lower than the estimate for referral while the estimate for retention was close to the value obtained for placement. Both testlets were graded and had correspondingly low location parameters. Item information was found to be high in the ability range where decisions are made for both individual decisions and testlets. No DIF was found for the Rasch models but was detected for referral for different ethnic groups using the two-parameter model. Using the Rasch model ignored an important source of DIF contained in the discrimination parameter. DTF was found for the referral and placement testlet when ethnicity was analyzed. Referral decisions for ethnicity were found to be functioning differently for Caucasians versus non-Caucasians. Teachers, in this sample, did not take ability into account when making referral decisions for this group. No DIF was found for placement indicating that evaluation teams did incorporate ability into the decision. Item response theory represents a powerful methodology that could be applied to a variety of new problem types.

Moor, Sarah Kathryn. "Trace, a novel and exegesis." Thesis, Queensland University of Technology, 2010. https://eprints.qut.edu.au/32154/1/Sarah_Moor_Thesis.pdf.

Abstract:
Trace concerns writing-walking and walking-writing. The multiple voices of both novel and exegesis assemble a rhizomic map of a walk and create a never-entirely-certain wandering look upon a woman walking, rather than a single cocksure gaze. Trace explores the aesthetics of Western walking literature and the various nostalgias inherent in that tradition. Trace wonders how lost a character can become on a walk and whether a walk is itself a kind of becoming. In the undefined liminal space where the urban bleeds into the rural, Trace challenges the singular perspective of the dominating gaze with a wandering look, which aims to make an original contribution to both the walk in literature and to exegetical form.

Fuller, Barry Stanley. "A trace of a trace : an analysis of trauma in Shoah perpetrator auto/biographical narratives." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/36658.

Abstract:
In this study, I attempt to prove that many Shoah perpetrators potentially suffered the effects of trauma and that traces of their traumatisation exist within their auto/biographical narratives. In my endeavour to demonstrate this belief, I first discuss how many Shoah perpetrators were not merely prompted to take part in the Shoah because they were antisemitic, but that they were heavily influenced by the social and political environment around them. However, even though many of the perpetrators took part in othering processes as a response to their interpellation and socialisation, they still suffered from the effects of trauma. I then discuss the reasons for why many of the perpetrators wrote auto/biographical narratives, ultimately stating that an unconscious need to work through the effects of trauma was a possible reason for constructing these narratives and that traces of traumatisation do exist within the pages of these discourses. Finally, I make the case that many of the Shoah perpetrators suffered the effects of what Rachel M. MacNair terms Perpetration-Induced Traumatic Stress and that their traumatisation allowed them to perpetuate trauma on others through traumatic reenactment.
