En la Zona Metropolitana del Valle de México (ZMVM), como en la mayoría de las metrópolis latinoamericanas, la movilidad intraurbana es el principal impulsor de los cambios de la división social del espacio. La dinámica de movilidad residencial, al igual que la de los desplazamientos cotidianos, refleja con fuerza la inscripción de las desigualdades en el espacio urbano. Sin embargo, estas dinámicas operan en diferentes escalas de tiempo y su análisis suele limitarse a un solo tipo de movilidad a la vez. El objetivo de este artículo es, precisamente, conciliar el análisis de la movilidad residencial con el de la movilidad cotidiana, cada uno de los cuales arroja luz sobre la división socioespacial de la metrópoli a su manera. A partir de los datos de la encuesta intercensal de 2015, este artículo propone elaborar una tipología socioespacial de los territorios de la ZMVM, a nivel municipal, vinculando las dinámicas de movilidad cotidiana y residencial con los contextos territoriales entendidos por las características de los habitantes.Abstract: In the Mexico City Metropolitan Area (MCMA), as in most Latin American metropolises, intra-urban mobility is the main driver of changes in the social division of space. The dynamics of residential mobility, as well as commuting, strongly reflect the inscription of inequalities in urban space. However, these dynamics operate on different time scales and their analysis is often limited to only one type of mobility at a time. The aim of this article is precisely to reconcile the analysis of residential mobility with that of everyday mobility, each of which sheds light on the socio-spatial division of the metropolis in its own way. Using data from the 2015 intercensal survey, this article proposes to elaborate a sociospatial typology of the territories of the MCMA, at the municipal level, linking the dynamics of daily and residential mobility with the territorial contexts understood by the characteristics of the inhabitants. Keywords: Mexico City metropolitan zone; residential mobility; daily mobility; intraurban inequalities; social division of space.Résumé : A Mexico, comme dans la plupart des métropoles latino-américaines, la mobilité intra-urbaine constitue le principal moteur de la réécriture de la division sociale de l’espace. Les dynamiques résidentielles, comme celle des mouvements quotidiens, constituent des marqueurs forts de l’inscription des inégalités au sein de l’espace urbain. Toutefois, ces dynamiques agissent à des échelles de temps différentes, et l’analyse reste souvent cloisonnée à un seul type de mobilité. L’objectif de cet article est précisément de concilier l’analyse des mobilités résidentielles à celle des mobilités quotidiennes, qui éclairent chacune à leur manière la division socio-spatiale de la métropole mexicaine. La recesión de los años ochenta y la subsecuente reestructuración económica tuvieron un profundo impacto en la sociedad mexicana. No obstante, sus consecuencias sobre la movilidad social no fueron analizadas hasta finales de los noventa, cuando una serie de estudios empíricos revelaron las continuidades y los cambios en los patrones de movilidad social. En este artículo se discuten cuatro tendencias recientes: la continuidad de las altas tasas absolutas de movilidad intergeneracional; la reducción de las recompensas monetarias asociadas a la movilidad ocupacional; la creciente rigidez en las tasas relativas de movilidad; y el ajuste del caso mexicano al patrón de movilidad general propuesto por Erikson y Goldthorpe. El panorama que resulta de estas tendencias es el de una sociedad que, a pesar los efectos negativos de la crisis y los cambios estructurales de los años ochenta y noventa, ha mantenido altas tasas de movilidad social, pero sufre en otros aspectos como la calidad de las oportunidades de movilidad ascendente y la creciente desigualdad de oportunidades asociada a los orígenes de clase. El artículo concluye con una discusión sobre posibles líneas futuras de investigación de los estudios sobre movilidad social en México.Abstract: The recession of the 1980s and subsequent economic restructuring in the 1990s had a profound impact on Mexican society. However, the consequences in social mobility were not fully explored until the end of the 1990s, when a series of empirical studies revealed continuities and changes in mobility patterns. The purpose of this article is to discuss trends in intergenerational social mobility. Four findings are discussed: the continuity of high overall and upward mobility rates; the reduction of monetary gains associated to upward occupational mobility; the increasing rigidity in relative rates of occupational mobility; and the overall compliance of the Mexican case to Erikson and Golthorpe’s core model of social fluidity. The picture emerging from these findings depicts a society that, notwithstanding the negative effects of the economic recession and structural changes of the 1980s and 1990s, maintained high rates of structural mobility, but suffered in other aspects such as the decrease in the quality of opportunities of upward mobility, as well as the increasing inequality of opportunity by class origins. The article concludes with a discussion of future avenues of research for social mobility studies in Mexico.Résumé : La récession des années 1980 et la subséquente restructuration économique des années 1990 a causé un impact profond sur la société mexicaine. Néanmoins, ses conséquences sur la mobilité sociale n’ont été entièrement explorées qu’à la fin des années 1990, quand une série d’études empiriques a dévoilé des continuités et des changements dans les modèles de mobilité. Le but de cet article est d’analyser les tendances de la mobilité sociale inter générationnelle. Le débat porte sur quatre découvertes: la continuité de taux élevés d’ascension dans l’échelle sociale ; la réduction des entrées monétaires associée à une mobilité occupationnelle plus importante ; la rigidité croissante des taux relatifs à la mobilité occupationnelle ; et la totale conformité du cas mexicain au modèle type de fluidité sociale d’Erickson et Golthorpe. L’image qui émerge de ces résultats décrit une société qui, malgré les effets négatifs de la récession économique et les réformes structurelles des années 1980 et 1990, maintient de hauts indices de mobilité structurelle, mais qui paie les conséquences d’autres aspects tels que la baisse de la qualité des opportunités d’ascension dans l’échelle sociale, ainsi que l’augmentation de l’inégalité d’opportunités données par la classe d’origine. L’article conclut par une discus- sion sur les futures voies de recherche possibles pour affiner les études sur la mobilité sociale au Mexique.

En este artículo se estudian las respuestas jurídicas del Sistema de la Integración Centroamericana (SICA) ante la coyuntura de personas en movilidad, en particular durante el periodo 2014-2018. Para ello, se estudiará el diseño institucional del SICA, sus órganos competentes en materia de movilidad de personas y su abordaje de la libertad de circulación de personas. También, se analizarán las actuaciones más relevantes gestadas en su marco y que revelan los desafíos del proceso de integración centroamericano.Abstract: This article studies the legal responses of the Central American Integration System (SICA) with regards to mobility rights during the years 2014-2018. For this purpose, we will study SICA’s institutional arrangements, its competent organs regarding mobility rights and their approach of freedom of movement. En México, el “sueño americano” no deja de ser reciente, las expectativas del personal de cuidado de la salud en materia de movilidad dependen de la iniciativa individual. Los factores que determinan tanto la migración, como la admisión de los candidatos, son numerosos y difíciles de objetivar, debido a que se encuentran sedimentados por la historia y las complejas relaciones con Estados Unidos, que simbolizan la promesa de un “horizonte de movilidad abierto”, con referencia al cual se desprecian profundamente las condiciones de trabajo en el país de origen. Sin embargo, las condiciones reales de trabajo en Estados Unidos no son tan idílicas como los estudiantes gustan creerlo.Abstract: In Mexico, the “American dream” is still a topical issue. The expectations of the healthcare workers in terms of mobility depends on the individual initiative. The factors which determine migration, as well as the admission of candidates are numerous and uneasy to specify, given that they are frozen by history and complex relations with the United States, which symbolizes the promise of an “open mobility horizon”, in reference to the disregard of working conditions in their home country. However, the real working conditions in the United-States are not as idyllic as the students want to believe.Résumé : Au Mexique, le « rêve américain » n’en finit pas d’être d’actualité. Les perspectives du personnel de santé en matière de mobilité dépendent de l’initiative individuelle. Les facteurs déterminants de la migration, ainsi que de l’admission des candidats sont nombreux et difficiles à spécifier, puisqu’ils sont figés par l’histoire et les relations complexes avec les États-Unis, lesquels symbolisent la promesse d’un « horizon de mobilité ouvert », et font référence au mépris des conditions de travail dans le pays d’origine. Cependant, les conditions réelles de travail aux États-Unis ne sont pas aussi idylliques que les étudiants veulent le croire.

Este texto describe las trayectorias de migración de los inmigrantes indígenas que laboran en el mercado de trabajo agrícola transnacional instalado en la frontera norte de México. Ubicados en la región del Valle de San Quintín, en el estado de Baja California, se adopta una perspectiva biográfica para el análisis de la experiencia de migración y trabajo de los individuos en un mercado laboral enfocado a la producción de hortalizas para el mercado internacional. Consideramos que la interrelación de varias dinámicas de movilidad –regional, interna e internacional– se pueden observar a través de la historia de movilidad, trabajo y asentamiento de los indígenas jornaleros distinguidos en cohortes generacionales para su análisis. Dicha interrelación parte de cambios en los patrones de movilidad y residencia de los grupos indígenas asentados en los sitios de trabajo, configurando así las nuevas geografías de los territorios étnicos en el país.Abstract: This text describes the different paths of migration of Indian immigrants working in the agricultural labor market transnational installed on Mexico Northern border. Adopting a biographical approach to the analysis of migration experience and work of individuals working in a market focused on the production of vegetables for the international market. The interplay between internal and international migrations is examined through the history of mobility, work and settlement of indigenous laborers along generational cohort lines. Such interplay can be explained by taking into account indigenous groups’ shifting patterns of residential mobility and settlement in new places of work, which in turn has led to the creation of new ethnic geographies throughout the country.Résumé : Ce texte décrit les différentes trajectoires migratoires des immigrés Indiens qui s’intègrent au marché du travail agricole transnational de la frontière nord du Mexique. Depuis la région de la vallée de San Quintin, en Basse-Californie, l’analyse a pour fondement une perspective biographique des expériences de migration et de travail des individus qui s’insèrent dans le secteur de la production de fleurs pour le marché international. La correspondance entre les divers types de dynamiques migratoires –régionale, interne et internationale– peut être observée au travers des histoires de mobilité, travail et installation des Indiens journaliers, population qui sera répartie en cohortes générationnelles pour l’analyse. Cette correspondance a pour point de départ les changements observés dans les formes de mobilité et d’installation des groupes indiens qui se sont établis sur les lieux de travail, conformant la nouvelle géographie des territoires ethniques dans le pays.

El propósito del presente artículo es comprender el efecto de las políticas de control fronterizo —centradas en la documentación migratoria— sobre la experiencia de la movilidad laboral transfronteriza en el estado de Chiapas, México, a través de una investigación cualitativa en la localidad de Frontera Comalapa. El análisis de los resultados señala la existencia de una zona libre, donde el estatus migratorio aún parece tener una influencia incipiente en la calidad de la experiencia del cruce fronterizo entre la población guatemalteca que cruza constantemente y en la inserción e integración laboral, a la inversa de lo que sucede con el tránsito hacia el norte de México y Estados Unidos de América, donde hay una mayor vigilancia del Estado.Abstract: The aim of this article is to understand the effect of border control policies —focused on migrant documentation— on the experience of cross-border labor migration in the state of Chiapas, Mexico, through a qualitative research at the town of Frontera Comalapa. En este artículo se propone la conceptuación de la industria de la migración. La industria de la migración es el conjunto de empresarios, negocios e infraestructuras que, motivados por la búsqueda de ganancias económicas, prestan servicios que facilitan y sostienen la migración internacional. Aunque la industria de la migración ha estado presente y entretejida en la literatura sobre la movilidad humana internacional desde hace mucho tiempo, las teorías de la migración la han tratado como un objeto de estudio marginal y la han reducido a sus dimensiones de ilegalidad e informalidad. En este artículo se argumenta en favor de una conceptuación exhaustiva de dicha industria, en la que se incluyen las actividades legales, ilegales, formales e informales y la interacción y articulación de la industria de la migración con los actores clave del proceso social de la migración internacional: gobiernos, empleadores, migrantes y sus redes y organizaciones defensoras de migrantes.Abstract: This article proposes the conceptualization of the term migration industry. Migration industry is the set of entrepreneurs, businesses and infrastructures that, driven by financial gain, offer services which facilitates and support international migration. Even though the concept of migration industry has long been present and intertwined with the literature on international human mobility, migration theories have always treated it as a marginal object of study and have reduced it to its illegal and informal dimensions. This article gives arguments in favor of an exhaustive conceptualization of this industry, which includes legal, illegal, formal and informal activities, and the interaction and articulation of the migration industry with the key actors of the social process of international migration: governments, employers, migrants and their networks, as well as organizations that advocate the defense of migrants.Résumé : Cet article propose la conceptualisation du terme industrie de la migration. L’industrie de la migration est l’ensemble des entrepreneurs, des affaires et des infrastructures qui, motivés par l’obtention de profits économiques, offrent des services qui facilitent et soutiennent la migration internationale. Même s’il y a longtemps que le concept d’industrie de la migration est présent et entremêlé à la littérature sur la mobilité humaine internationale, les théories de migration l’ont toujours traité comme un objet d’étude marginal en le réduisant à l’illégalité et aux affaires informelles. Dans cet article on donne des arguments à faveur d’une conceptualisation exhaustive de cette industrie qui inclut les activités légales, illégales, formelles et informelles. On traite aussi de l’interaction et de l’articulation de l’industrie de la migration avec les acteurs clé du processus social de la migration internationale : les gouvernements, les employeurs, les migrants et leurs réseaux, et les organisations de défense des migrants.

En este artículo se aborda el fenómeno de la expansión simultánea y explosiva, desde fines de los años 80, del gran comercio globalizado y del comercio informal y callejero en diversas modalidades en todo el espacio metropolitano de la Ciudad de México, incluidas las zonas populares. Los procesos subyacentes a este fenómeno son explorados con base en la observación de las prácticas de consumo de la población metropolitana, realizada en áreas testigo distribuidas en distintas zonas de la conurbación y correspondientes a diferentes tipos de contextos urbanos y estratos socioespaciales. El análisis de estas evidencias muestra, por una parte, que se asiste a una reconfiguración de las prácticas de consumo que presentan, como era de esperarse, perfiles diferenciados de acuerdo con la localización de la vivienda en el espacio metropolitano, el tipo de hábitat en la que ésta se inserta, el nivel socio-económico de individuos y hogares y el contraste entre movilidades basadas en el uso habitual del automóvil o del transporte público. Pero, por otra parte, que están marcadas en conjunto por una economía específica de la movilidad y por la complementariedad entre las formas globalizadas del consumo, que tienden a incorporar, aunque de forma diferenciada, a todas las clases sociales, y el papel jugado por el micro-comercio informal.Abstract: This paper addresses the phenomenon of the simultaneous and explosive expansion since the late eighties across Mexico City metropolitan space, of the globalized retail chains and informal street microcommerce. The processes linked to this phenomenon are explored by examining evidence regarding metropolitan population consumer practice, observed in a sample of neighborhood areas concerning a wide spectrum of urban environments and sociospatial strata coexisting in the metropolitan territory. The analysis shows, on one hand, transformation of consumer practices that, as expected, are differentiated according to residential location and corresponding urban environment, individual and household socio-economic level, and alternative forms of mobility (private car/public transport). But, on the other hand, these practices are also shaped by a specific economy of mobility and by specific compatibilities between globalized consumer forms which tend to incorporate, though under different modalities, all social classes, and the role played by the informal micro-commerce.Résumé: Cet article aborde le phénomène de l’expansion simultanée et explosive du grand commerce globalisé et du commerce informel et de rue sous diverses formes, depuis la fin des années 80, dans tout l’espace métropolitain de la Ville de Mexico, y compris dans les zones populaires. Les processus sous-jacents à ce phénomène sont explorés à partir de l’observation des pratiques de consommation de la population métropolitaine, réalisée dans des zones tests distribuées dans différentes espaces de l’agglomération et correspondant à différents types de contextes urbains et de strates socio-spatiales. D’un côté, l’analyse des résultats montre une reconfiguration des pratiques de consommation qui, comme on pouvait s’y attendre, dévoile des profils différenciés en fonction de la localisation résidentielle dans l’espace métropolitain, du type d’habitat, du niveau socio-économique des individus et des ménages et le contraste entre moyens habituels de déplacement, motorisés ou de transport public. De l’autre, ces pratiques sont marquées dans leur ensemble par une économie de la mobilité, par la complémentarité entre les formes globalisées de la consommation qui tendent à pénétrer de manière différenciée toutes les classes sociales et le rôle joué par le microcommerce informel.

Costa Rica es actualmente el mayor exportador de piña fresca en el mundo (Harvard’s Growth Lab 2020) y más de la mitad de su producción se ubica en la región fronteriza con Nicaragua. Con base en el trabajo etnográfico realizado en dos comunidades costarricenses que se localizan en dicha zona, en este artículo argumentamos que la frontera entre ambos países cumple tres funciones que la hacen fundamental para explicar tanto la expansión del cultivo como su ubicación en esta región: 1) separa los espacios de producción piñera de los espacios de reproducción social de la fuerza de trabajo; 2) vulnera a los trabajadores migrantes nicaragüenses en Costa Rica, debido a su ingreso irregular al país, y 3) dificulta la organización laboral, tanto por el alto nivel de movilidad de la fuerza de trabajo como por convertir conflictos de clase en conflictos entre naciones. Abstract: Costa Rica is the largest exporter of fresh pineapple in the world (Harvard’s Growth Lab 2020), with more than half of its production located in the border region with Nicaragua. Based on ethnographic research carried out in two Costa Rican communities located near the border, we argue in this article that the border line between both countries accomplishes three functions that are crucial to explain both the expansion of the crop and its location in this region: 1) it separates the spaces of pineapple production, of those of social reproduction of the labor force; 2) it renders migrant Nicaraguan workers in Costa Rica vulnerable, due to their irregular entry into the country; 3) it hinders labor organization, due to both the high mobility of the labor force, and by turning class struggle, into conflicts between nations.Keywords: borders; plantations; transborder labor; pineapple production; Central America. Résumé : De nos jours, le Costa Rica est le plus grand exportateur d’ananas au monde (Harvard’s Growth Lab 2020), plus de la moitié de cette production est située dans la zone frontalière avec le Nicaragua. En nous basant sur le travail ethnographique effectué dans deux communautés costariciennes de cette région frontalière, dans cet article nous démontrerons que la frontière entre les deux pays remplit trois fonctions qui la rendent incontournable ayant pour but d’expliquer, d’une part l’expansion de l’exploitation agricole et d’autre part leur localisation dans cette région : 1) elle sépare les espaces de production d’ananas comme ceux de la reproduction sociale de la force de travail ; 2) elle affaiblit les travailleurs migrants nicaraguayens au Costa Rica à cause de leur entrée irrégulière au pays, 3) elle complique l’organisation du travail en raison de la grande mobilité des ouvriers et transforme les conflits de classe en conflit entre les nations.Mots-clés : frontière ; plantations ; travail transfrontalier ; production d’ananas ; Amérique Centrale.

L’article qui suit propose un ciné-parcours le long des routes imaginaires et réelles de l’Europe contemporaine, en se concentrant principalement sur ce que Naficy appelle an accented cinema, un cinéma qui se penche sur des phénomènes de déterritorialisation et de transitivité entre plusieurs routes matérielles et symboliques, de même qu’entre plusieurs espaces socioculturels. Ce ciné-parcours veut également montrer comment le cinéma peut aborder les dynamiques de la mobilité migratoire transnationale d’aujourd’hui, en proposant, à l’aide d’un corpus de films et de vidéos, une analyse de la problématique des nouvelles identités fluides qui se construisent dans l’espace européen, au-delà de cet espace — principalement dans le Maghreb — ou dans l’entre-deux. Deux figures sont privilégiées dans les représentations filmiques choisies : la route et la frontière. L’auteure suggère un travail de conceptualisation de ce champ d’analyse et trace le parcours des rues traversées, représentées, imaginées, afin de comprendre les liens entre les différentes façons d’habiter les rues tout autant que les marges, et les expériences et pratiques transnationales dans l’Europe d’aujourd’hui.

L’intégration des caméras dans les objets de la mobilité (ordinateur portable, appareil photo, smartphone, tablette) a conduit à l’émergence de l’autoproduction audiovisuelle comme activité sociale (YouTube) et la didactique des langues s’approprie ces nouvelles pratiques. Les apprenants peuvent se filmer facilement en dehors de la classe dans des environnements variés et transmettre leur production orale numérique à l’enseignant. En nous appuyant sur un corpus de tutoriels audiovisuels réalisés par des étudiants en français langue étrangère, nous montrerons comment les objets de la vie quotidienne participent à la construction du sens dans l’action et constituent ainsi des ressources qui aident l’apprenant à élaborer son discours et l’enseignant à évaluer la production orale. Les apprenants choisissent de se montrer en train d’agir dans des lieux qui étaient jusque-là réservés à l’apprentissage informel (salle de bain, magasin, cuisine etc.) et réalisent un produit audiovisuel en dehors de la salle de classe. L’enseignant peut intervenir sur la vidéo par exemple en repérant des erreurs dans la production orale et en insérant des annotations sur l’image. La vidéo numérique constitue une trace sur laquelle l’enseignant et l’apprenant peuvent agir de façon différée.

Mobility trace techniques makes possible drawing the behaviors of real-life movement which shape wireless networks mobility whereabouts. In our investigation, several trace mobility models have been collected after the devices’ deployment. The main issue of this classical procedure is that it produces uncompleted records due to several unpredictable problems occurring during the deployment phase. In this paper, we propose a new procedure aimed at collecting traces while deployment phase failures are avoided, which improves the reliability of data. The introduced procedure makes possible the complete generation of traces with a minimum amount of damage without the need to recover mobile devices or lose them, as it is the case in previous mobility traces techniques. Based on detecting and correcting all accidental issues in real time, the proposed trace scanning offers a set of relevant information about the vehicle status which was collected during seven months. Furthermore, the proposed procedure could be applied to generate vehicular traces. Likewise, it is suitable to record/generate human and animal traces. The research outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the smart collection algorithm based on the proposed trace mobility model.

Trace elements with a low mobility and with a low transfer are Cu, As, Be, V, Cr, Hg. Copper has at low mobility an increased transfer quotient (content plant/soil). The lowest mobility and transfer show Cr and Hg. Only at the very high contents or increased mobilities of trace elements, which accompany the anthropogenic contamination, soil critical loading for crops can be attained. Because of the amount of the examined extremes, it was not possible to derive the proper critical values. Therefore we were able to assess only critical protective values. They represent minimum total contents of trace elements or their mobile forms, which eliminate risks.

Abstract Human mobility is often represented as a mobility network, or graph, with nodes representing places of significance which an individual visits, such as their home, work, places of social amenity, etc., and edge weights corresponding to probability estimates of movements between these places. Previous research has shown that individuals can be identified by a small number of geolocated nodes in their mobility network, rendering mobility trace anonymization a hard task. In this paper we build on prior work and demonstrate that even when all location and timestamp information is removed from nodes, the graph topology of an individual mobility network itself is often uniquely identifying. Further, we observe that a mobility network is often unique, even when only a small number of the most popular nodes and edges are considered. We evaluate our approach using a large dataset of cell-tower location traces from 1 500 smartphone handsets with a mean duration of 430 days. We process the data to derive the top−N places visited by the device in the trace, and find that 93% of traces have a unique top−10 mobility network, and all traces are unique when considering top−15 mobility networks. Since mobility patterns, and therefore mobility networks for an individual, vary over time, we use graph kernel distance functions, to determine whether two mobility networks, taken at different points in time, represent the same individual. We then show that our distance metrics, while imperfect predictors, perform significantly better than a random strategy and therefore our approach represents a significant loss in privacy.

Intelligent vehicular networks emerge as a promising technology to provide efficient data communication in transportation systems and smart cities. At the same time, the popularization of devices with attached sensors has allowed the obtaining of a large volume of data with spatiotemporal information from different entities. In this sense, we are faced with a large volume of vehicular mobility traces being recorded. Those traces provide unprecedented opportunities to understand the dynamics of vehicular mobility and provide data-driven solutions. In this article, we give an overview of the main publicly available vehicular mobility traces; then, we present the main issues for preprocessing these traces. Also, we present the methods used to characterize and model mobility data. Finally, we review existing proposals that apply the hidden knowledge extracted from the mobility trace for vehicular networks. This article provides a survey on studies that use vehicular mobility traces and provides a guideline for the proposition of data-driven solutions in the domain of vehicular networks. Moreover, we discuss open research problems and give some directions to undertake them.

À partir d’une entrée quantitative et qualitative des pratiques et aspirations en matière de mobilité et de modes de vie, l’article souligne la pluralité des pratiques de mobilité des Franciliens et de leurs idéaux, mais également des aspirations partagées à une amélioration des conditions de mobilité, de proximité et de ralentissement en contrepoint d’une hypermobilité urbaine. L’entrée par les aspirations permet alors de tracer un scénario partiel, mais partagé de réduction de la mobilité automobile en Île-de-France qui compose avec la diversité des idéaux, les contraintes territoriales et le schéma centre-périphérie des mobilités. Ces résultats contribuent ainsi aux débats sur la place de la voiture en ville et les conditions d’une transition des mobilités, en soulignant l’enjeu d’une différenciation territoriale des politiques de lutte contre la dépendance automobile.

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) form when vehicles are equipped with devices capable of short-range wireless communication. Realistic vehicle trace modeling for VANETs simulations is a challenging task, which requires the reliable characterization of vehicular mobility. In this study, three different vehicle scenarios are proposed to analyze the difference between vehicle traces in multi-scenarios: city road, expressway and highway. Common trace modeling tools and characters of the scenarios are explored. Furthermore, three experimental scenarios are established using VanetMobiSim to produce vehicle traces. The experimental results show that the trend of the average speed versus the number of vehicles is different, and the vehicular density distribution demonstrates the realism of vehicle trace under multi-scenarios.

Erigé en outil d´aménagement pour certains, ou en média de conquête de nouveaux marchés pour d´autres, le commerce de proximité devient un instrument à privilégier. Purpose Labour mobility is increasingly recognized as an important component of a globalized international trading system. This paper aims to examine the role of temporary entry commitments in international trade agreements toward facilitating global labour mobility. Design/methodology/approach This paper traces three decades of temporary entry provisions in international trade agreements signed by the USA and Canada, beginning with their bilateral Canada–US Free Trade Agreement and culminating in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Findings The paper finds that while many countries have continued to liberalize their temporary entry commitments in various trade agreements, the USA has reversed course in the previous decade, hampering international progress. Meanwhile, Canada has pursued ever greater labour mobility provisions with most of its trading partners. Practical implications The unique roles played by the USA, Canada and other trading partners in advancing a coherent international labour mobility agenda are considered. To continue to advance labour mobility in trade agreements moving forward, policy alternatives to the “all” or “nothing” approaches pursued by Canada and the USA are suggested. Originality/value To the author’s knowledge, this paper is the first to formally evaluate labour mobility in the TPP and the only paper to outline the evolution of temporary entry in the US vs Canadian trade agreements over three decades.

As with any review, this one cannot be comprehensive; these texts are far too rich for these limited pages. Nevertheless, I aim to trace some of the main lines of inquiry of each monograph as well as to note some of the overlaps of and differences between their arguments and approaches.

Based on it, a mobility model based social network is proposed and turned into a simulation, which consists of growing and evolvement of social networks, geographical location mapping of vehicles and node dynamics. The simulation results proved that the model’s characteristic is similar to real trace.

The rapid growth of positioning technology allows tracking motion between places, making trajectory recordings an important source of information about place connectivity, as they map the routes that people commonly perform. In this paper, we utilize users’ motion traces to construct a behavioral representation of places based on how people move between them, ignoring geographical coordinates and spatial proximity. Inspired by natural language processing techniques, we generate and explore vector representations of locations, traces and visitors, obtained through an unsupervised machine learning approach, which we generically named motion-to-vector (Mot2vec), trained on large-scale mobility data. The algorithm consists of two steps, the trajectory pre-processing and the Word2vec-based model building. First, mobility traces are converted into sequences of locations that unfold in fixed time steps; then, a Skip-gram Word2vec model is used to construct the location embeddings. Trace and visitor embeddings are finally created combining the location vectors belonging to each trace or visitor. Mot2vec provides a meaningful representation of locations, based on the motion behavior of users, defining a direct way of comparing locations’ connectivity and providing analogous similarity distributions for places of the same type. In addition, it defines a metric of similarity for traces and visitors beyond their spatial proximity and identifies common motion behaviors between different categories of people.

Higher education institutions are clamoring to prepare students for living in highly diverse societies, and countries use the soft power of international exchanges to develop goodwill. However, the striking increase in student mobility has suddenly come to a dramatic halt in recent months globally due to the covid-19 pandemic, and the impact on international students has been most severe. In this context, this paper briefly discusses the evolution of student mobility and how it fosters global citizenship.

À l’aide d’études de cas, nous analysons comment les chercheurs ont identifié, conceptualisé et relié les traces matérielles décrivant divers processus de mobilité dans une région donnée. Nous élaborons ensuite la construction d’ontologies qui nous permettent de relier explicitement les éléments matériels, identifiés dans le paysage observé, aux connaissances ou à la théorie qui explique leur rôle et leurs relations au sein du processus de mobilité. En combinant les systèmes de parcours formels, dits « Path framework systems » et les systèmes de mouvement informels, dits « Pathway systems », nous montrons, à travers ces études de cas, que les deux types de systèmes ne sont pas intégrés hiérarchiquement, mais plutôt entrelacés. The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) of 1994 aims at creating the legal, political, and business conditions for a freer circulation of goods, capitals and services in North America. However it gives scant attention to the mobility of workers. The basic premise of this paper is that globalisation of trade and the universal diffusion of human rights have evolved and progressed side by side, even though with difficulty and reluctantly, and that the regional liberalisation of trade must be deeply interwoven with issues related to socio-economic rights to be ultimately and durably successful. This paper’s major questions are: How does NAFTA address labour mobility? Does NAFTA neglect, oppose or support the free movement of people across its borders? Does the agreement deal with labour mobility in a clear and definite manner or does it ignore it and give it short shrift? Should NAFTA support the liberalisation of immigration within its area as a long term objective, as part of a deeper and broader regional integration, conditioned on considerable reforms by its Member States, especially Mexico’s legal system, and energy, tax and banking policies, among others? Is the free movement of people needed to be truly successful and provide economic security, survival and prosperity for its member countries in view of vastly changed economic and trade conditions since its inception? This paper first traces the history of the drafting of NAFTA. Then it examines what NAFTA means for labour mobility within the complex interaction between an economic colossus like the United States and a developing country like Mexico, also taking into account current migration trends. In this section, the paper also covers the liberalisation of the mobility of labour (albeit limited) brought about through administrative regulations. Interspersed with this there is a discussion of what should be a mutually reinforcing relationship between international free trade and social policy.

Since human movement patterns are important for validating the performance of wireless networks, several traces of human movements in real life have been collected. However, collecting data about human movements is costly and time-consuming. Moreover, multiple traces are demanded to test various network scenarios. As a result, a lot of synthetic models of human movement have been proposed. Nevertheless, most of the proposed models were often based on random generation, and cannot produce realistic human movements. Although there have been a few models that tried to capture the characteristics of human movement in real life (e.g., flights, inter-contact times, and pause times following the truncated power-law distribution), those models still cannot reflect realistic human movements due to a lack of consideration for social context among people. To address those limitations, in this paper, we propose a novel human mobility model called the social relationship–aware human mobility model (SRMM), which considers social context as well as the characteristics of human movement. SRMM partitions people into social groups by exploiting information from a social graph. Then, the movements of people are determined by considering the distances to places and social relationships. The proposed model is first evaluated by using a synthetic map, and then a real road map is considered. The results of SRMM are compared with a real trace and other synthetic mobility models. The obtained results indicate that SRMM is consistently better at reflecting both human movement characteristics and social relationships.

La recherche sur le contact de langues (ou contact linguistics) est longtemps restée à la périphérie des études linguistiques qui s’intéressaient principalement à la compétence et à la grammaire monolingue des sujets parlants poussées en cela par des idéologies nationales qui reconnaissaient sur leur territoire l’existence de langues et de cultures séparées dans lesquelles des systèmes linguistiques indépendants n’avaient aucune influence les uns sur les autres. Les premiers travaux sur le contact se sont majoritairement portés sur des situations de contact historiques – en diachronie – ou sur des situations stables et diglossiques (Weinreich, 1953). L’intérêt des uns était de trouver une explication aux anomalies typologiques ou généalogiques que l’on avait pu remarquer, tandis que les autres s’intéressaient à l’évolution de la structure d’une langue en contact : quel domaine de la langue était influencé, comment, quelles étaient les conséquences pour l’intégrité du système de cette langue etc. Les typologies de phénomènes observés et la méthodologie de base mise en place par ces travaux sont utilisées jusqu’à présent dans les recherches sur le contact. Basées sur des principes linguistiques, ces dernières s’intéressent à expliquer des faits linguistiques et, bien que l’importance des faits sociaux soit reconnue, ces derniers ne sont que partiellement mobilisés dans les explications fournies. Cela peut être lié à la difficulté d’obtention de données sociales – en particulier dans les situations anciennes où seule une démarche historique est alors envisageable. Cependant, s’il est possible d’expliquer des situations de contact anciennes sur la base d’une faible connaissance sociale, il est beaucoup plus difficile d’en faire autant pour les situations de contact actuelles où l’accent est mis sur les processus donnant lieu au contact.

Abstract Abu Bakr Khaal’s African Titanics (written in Arabic) and Jonny Steinberg’s A Man of Good Hope (written in English) track diasporic movements from the former Italian colonies of Eritrea and Somalia. Focusing on mobility as well as memory, both books trace complicated and unpredictable patterns of forced displacement and precarious settlement. African Titanics charts the journey from Eritrea to the shores of the Mediterranean and the sea crossing to Europe, while A Man of Good Hope follows the movement overland from Somalia to South Africa. Both texts delineate communities networked across national borders and propose an alternative geography formed by cultural commonality rather than geopolitical division. The essay draws on Christina Sharpe’s concept of the ‘wake’ as a means of understanding how migrant subjectivity and community are formed through the multiple forms of racialized violence experienced in transnational mobility.

As mobile devices and location-based services are increasingly developed in different smart city scenarios and applications, many unexpected privacy leakages have arisen due to geolocated data collection and sharing. User re-identification and other sensitive inferences are major privacy threats when geolocated data are shared with cloud-assisted applications. Significantly, four spatio-temporal points are enough to uniquely identify 95% of the individuals, which exacerbates personal information leakages. To tackle malicious purposes such as user re-identification, we propose an LSTM-based adversarial mechanism with representation learning to attain a privacy-preserving feature representation of the original geolocated data (i.e., mobility data) for a sharing purpose. These representations aim to maximally reduce the chance of user re-identification and full data reconstruction with a minimal utility budget (i.e., loss). We train the mechanism by quantifying privacy-utility trade-off of mobility datasets in terms of trajectory reconstruction risk, user re-identification risk, and mobility predictability. We report an exploratory analysis that enables the user to assess this trade-off with a specific loss function and its weight parameters. The extensive comparison results on four representative mobility datasets demonstrate the superiority of our proposed architecture in mobility privacy protection and the efficiency of the proposed privacy-preserving features extractor. We show that the privacy of mobility traces attains decent protection at the cost of marginal mobility utility. Our results also show that by exploring the Pareto optimal setting, we can simultaneously increase both privacy (45%) and utility (32%).

El presente texto muestra el análisis de algunos componentes que permiten dilucidar el tratamiento mortuorio del conjunto. Aquí se estudia, entre otros, los tipos de depósito, la disposición del ajuar y la utilización dinámica del espacio. El objetivo central de esta investigación consiste en generar aportes para comprender la función social de este particular conjunto funerario huasteco.Abstract: Within the Origin and Development of San Luis Potosi Tamtok Urban Landscape project, was developed since 2008 a research inquiry which pretended to study the funerary treatment of a burials group located in north-western sector of the site, belonging to the Late Postclassic period. The present paper makes known the analysis of some components which allow to understand the funerary treatment. For example, it studies deposit types, the disposition of offerings, the dynamic utilization of space, among other issues. Society faces the complex challenge of supporting biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, while ensuring food security by providing safe traceable food through an ever-more-complex global food chain. The increase in human mobility brings the added threat of pests, parasites, and invaders that further complicate our agro-industrial efforts. DNA barcoding technologies allow researchers to identify both individual species, and, when combined with universal primers and high-throughput sequencing techniques, the diversity within mixed samples (metabarcoding). These tools are already being employed to detect market substitutions, trace pests through the forensic evaluation of trace “environmental DNA”, and to track parasitic infections in livestock. The potential of DNA barcoding to contribute to increased security of the food chain is clear, but challenges remain in regulation and the need for validation of experimental analysis. Here, we present an overview of the current uses and challenges of applied DNA barcoding in agriculture, from agro-ecosystems within farmland to the kitchen table.

Purpose – The purpose of the paper is to examine convergence of economic interests – both empirically and theoretically – among labor-abundant (labor-sending) and labor scarce (labor receiving) countries, in the context of Mode 4 of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) of the WTO. The paper also explores regional trade associations as an interim alternative forum for promoting temporary cross-border labor mobility in the backdrop of failure of multilateral trade negotiations under the Doha Round. Design/methodology/approach – The research methodology of the paper involves literature review, an analysis of databases and theoretical findings, and a critical examination of pertinent empirical and secondary information on the subject matter. Findings – The findings reveal that although a convergence of economic interests seem to exist between the labor-sending and receiving countries for promoting cross-border labor mobility, this sector faces formidable trade and non-trade barriers across the world, especially in the developed countries. As multilateral trade negotiations under the Doha Round have failed to make any progress toward liberalization of this sector, regional trade associations, especially those pursued by the USA, Canada and Australia, seem to provide a credible alternative vehicle, as an interim measure, for further liberalization of this sector. These RTAs can serve as examples for other RTAs to promote regional mobility of labor. Research limitations/implications – Cross-border temporary labor mobility, as envisaged by GATs of the WTO, is a burgeoning field. Although some serious works are available, especially sponsored by the World Bank and some leading universities, there is a considerable dearth in this field, especially in respect to contribution from individual scholars and researchers. This paper fills the void to some extent by ascertaining factors and forces that help or hinder cross-border mobility, by pointing out limitations of multilateral trade negotiations under the WTO, and by exploring the regional trade associations as an interim measure for promoting cross-border labor mobility. Practical implications – This paper points out factors and forces that help or hinder cross-border mobility, ascertains crucial limitations of multilateral trade negotiations under the WTO, and explores the RTAs as an interim measure for promoting cross-border labor mobility – all these would have practical policy implications. Originality/value – The originality of the paper lies with its critical and careful review of existing literature and available databases, with the determination of factors and forces that help or hinder cross-border mobility in the contemporary world, in pointing out the limitations of multilateral trade negotiations under the WTO, and in exploring the RTAs as an interim measure for promoting cross-border labor mobility.

Better understanding mobility, being it from pedestrians or any other moving object, is practical and insightful. Practical due to its applications to the fundamentals of communication, with special attention to wireless communication. Insightful because it might pinpoint the pros and cons of how we are moving, or being moved, around. There are plenty of studies focused on mobility in mobile wireless networks, including the proposals of several synthetic mobility models. Getting real mobility traces is not an easy task, but there has been some efforts to provide traces to the public through repositories. Synthetic mobility models are usually analyzed through mobility metrics, which are designed to capture mobility subtleties. This work research on the applicability of some representative mobility metrics for real traces analysis. To achieve that goal, a case study is accomplished with a dataset of mobility traces of taxi cabs in the city of Rome/Italy. The results suggest that the mobility metrics under consideration are capable of capturing mobility properties which would otherwise require more sophisticated analytical approaches.

Abstract. Ion mobility spectrometer (IMS) was implemented to measure gas phase compounds from ambient air in order to study the suitability of the technique for on-line atmospheric measurements. The measurements took place at the SMEAR II station in Hyytiälä, Finland during spring periods on 2008 and 2009. We were able to separate several different atmosphere related ion mobility peaks form the measured ion mobility distributions. The hypothetic origins of these peaks are discussed accompanying the comparison with earlier trace gas measurements by different techniques. The potential of the IMS for atmospheric studies utilizing the concept used here was found out to be in monitoring the overall cleanness of prevailing atmospheric conditions as well as fast detection of the changes of those conditions. With further developing of the technique based on experience gathered in this study the IMS could be tuned to better respond to current measurement needs in atmospheric studies.
