Abstract:

Abstract:

The purpose of this paper is to review the conceptualization of the adaptation of Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) with religious orientation in small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The underlying assumption for TPB implication in SMEs is that employee’s behavioral intention at work may be modified via TPB which shall improve the employee competitiveness, which in turn increases the organizational success factors in the industry. The proposed conceptual framework is based on well-known analytical framework for TPB developed by Ajzen, (1991). Literature suggested that religion engenders the shape of behaviour, which is strongly followed by people. Based upon conceptual and empirical evidences framework and propositions are developed to test the adaptation of TPB and religious orientation in SME. The proposed framework provides a basis for developing an empirical model to advance the TBP with religious orientation in SME which further can be test across the SME sectors and results from different geographical and cultural settings may also be explore. This research contributes to existing knowledge by extension of TPB in SMEs operating in Pakistan, which would result in the improvement of employee’s behavior. This study could be of practical value for SMEs owner/ managers, who want to maximize the employee behavior through effective adaptation of TBP with religious orientation that support their organization.

Abstract:

Abstract The efficacy of Mycotrol and Provado alone and in combination to kill TPB caged on cotton plants was studied. Cotton was planted 17 May on the UA Cotton Branch Experiment Station, Marianna, AR. Adult TPB were collected 8 Jul from flowering mustard planted in cotton. Nylon tulle (1 mm2 mesh) sleeve cages 3 ft long by 1 ft diameter were placed over the first 6 terminal nodes of flowering cotton plants in plots 50 ft long by 4 rows in width. Cages were separated across rows by 4 rows of mustard and within rows by 10 ft. TPB were placed in cages either before or after spraying (direct and indirect application). A RCB design was used with 4 blocks and 6 cages per treatment within a block (3 direct and 3 indirect applications) with 15 TPB per cage. Treatments were applied 9 Jul at 15 gpa with a 0.04% Kinetic solution as the carrier using a hand held CO2 powered boom sprayer at 35 psi with Twin Jet 8002 VS nozzles. The check was 0.04% Kinetic solution. Three, DAT, TPB were collected. Live TPB were placed in individual 30 ml plastic cups with a 2.5 cm piece of fresh green bean and monitored for mortality 3, 5, and 7 DAT. Dead TBP were placed in sporulation chambers (9 cm Petri dishes with moist filter paper) sealed with Parafilm and examined after 1 wk to assess mycoses. ANOVA and mean separation by LSD were performed using the arcsine/square root of the proportion dead from each cage.

Abstract:
Purpose. The evidence for the effectiveness of theory of planned behavior (TPB)–based interventions is mixed. There is also mixed evidence on the effectiveness of adding implementation intentions to TPB-based interventions. In this study we assessed and compared the short-term effects of TPB-only intervention and TPB plus implementation intentions intervention on snacking behavior and intention to consume unhealthy snacks in Iranian adolescent girls. Design. Three-arm cluster randomized controlled trial. Setting. Ten middle schools in Tehran (Iran). Subjects. A total of 29 classes included 739 female adolescents (age range: 12–15 years). Intervention. Two brief interventions including TPB-only intervention and TPB plus implementation intentions intervention. Measures. Food frequency questionnaire and intentions at baseline, 10 days, and 3 months measuring snacking behavior and cognitions about unhealthy snack consumption, respectively. Analysis. Hierarchical linear modeling to assess the interventions' effects. Results. Both interventions successfully decreased intention to consume and consumption of unhealthy snacks at postintervention. Calculation of the effect sizes revealed that the TPB plus implementation intentions intervention was more effective than the TPB-only intervention. The effects remained significant at 3-month follow-up in the TPB plus implementation intentions intervention group only, although the effect size decreased. Conclusion. Overall, the study suggests that adding implementation intentions on top of TPB-based persuasive messages improves effectiveness and sustainability of desirable changes.

Abstract:
A weak finding of behavioral intention and behavior in the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) from a meta-analysis study by Armitage and Conner in 2001 has led to an increasing number of studies aiming to improve the TPB. Several researchers propose potential constructs to bridge the theoretical and empirical gap by suggesting that the construct of desire and the implementation of intentions can fill the theoretical and empirical gaps in the TPB model. The literature study aimed to retrospectively explore TPB studies with desire and implementation of intentions constructs in the behavioral science domain. The research retrieved 191 SCOPUS indexed papers (2012–2019) from the Google Scholars database. It summarized the descriptive data and produced visualization using VOSviewer. The results show that most studies developing the TPB model with other behavioral theories still focus on constructs to shape behavioral intentions because the behavioral intention construct is the best predictor of behavior. Most studies apply a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey design to collect primary data. In contrast, the experimental and longitudinal design approaches are relatively neglected in this TPB behavioral study. Furthermore, the analysis of 191 papers shows that the TPB model is often used in research in environmental, sustainable, and transport settings; health; psychological; hospitality and tourism; and innovation and technology. In addition, the use of the TPB model in research with entrepreneurial and legal settings is still limited. From these findings, the research proposes empirical research on TPB to implement further the relationship between desire and intention implementation to improve the TPB model by integrating the TPB model with several other theories, such as Mindset Theory of Action Phase and Model Goal-Directed Behaviour.

Abstract:
Purpose The theory of planned behavior (TPB) is the most frequently used model in knowledge sharing. However, the empirical results are inconclusive on whether TPB can provide reasonable prediction of knowledge sharing behavior (KSB). This study aims to examine TPB in knowledge sharing and identify potential moderators of relationships among constructs in TPB. Design/methodology/approach This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of 26 studies examining TPB in knowledge sharing. A meta-analytical structural equation model (MASEM) was used to test original and modified TPB models and examine potential moderators. Findings The results show that attitude has the strongest relationship with intention, followed by perceived behavior control and then subjective norms. Intention shows the strongest association with KSB, followed by perceived behavior control. The moderator roles of culture, economic wealth and information technology support are found in the model. Originality/value This study is the first attempt to provide a systematic review and MASEM in TPB in knowledge sharing.

Abstract:
Tarnished plant bugs (TPB), Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois), were collected from wild host plants growing in weed fields undistrubed by agricultural practices, and from the same plant species found in disturbed areas adjacent to cotton fields in Washington County, MS during 1984 and 1985. Euphorine parasitism of TPB adults and nymphs collected in these 2 types of habitats was determined by dissection. For each year of the study period, parasitism of TPB collected from all host plant species sampled in weed fields peaked at 8 and 32% on 28 June 1984, and at 6 and 12% on 30 May 1985 for nymphs and adults, respectively. On these 2 dates parasitism of adult TPB found on all host plant species sampled in the weed fields was significantly higher (P ≤ 0.01) than parasitism of those TPB collected from the same plant species in areas adjacent to cotton fields. Parasitism of TPB in the undisturbed areas may have been sufficient to locally reduce TPB populations. However, undisturbed areas are uncommon in Washington County and the parasitoids are probably univoltine. Consequently, the impact of euphorine parasitoids on area-wide TPB populations was probably small.

Abstract:
Background: Nosocomial infections pose a big threat to patient safety and increased costs for society. An effective way of preventing cross-infections is to apply hygiene routines. Studies show that compliance to hygiene routines is low while there's a lack of knowledge about the best way of improving it. Aim: To investigate whether a conversation based on the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) could influence a nurse's compliance to hygiene routines and whether it could benefit the understanding of a nurse's compliance. Method: A quantitative and qualitative method was used in the study and included one nurse. An observation of his/her daily work at a hospital ward was carried out before and after a conversation which focused on attitude, subjective norm and perceived behaviour control. Main results: Even if compliance was good to start with it improved after the conversation. The nurse's attitude towards hygiene procedures was positive, but heavy workloads and difficulty to access materials could be a barrier. The norm in the ward was, according to the nurse, that hygiene routines were important even if some were less compliant. Conclusion: the use of TPB in a conversation could benefit the understanding of the nurse's compliance. Improvements in daily practices were noticed after the conversation, which could be due to an increased awareness of the need to perform hygiene procedures. No direct conclusions could be drawn from this study because the sample was limited, but the study provides suggestions for further research.

Abstract:

Background: Hand hygiene is the simplest and most fundamental means to prevent care related infections. It is of great importance that the guideline of hand hygiene is followed for the patient’s sake. Unfortunately, healthcare workers perform hand hygiene too seldom. If the patient comes down with a care related infection, the suffering will increase. The nurse's role is therefore to prevent unnecessary suffering for the patient by following recommendations for hand hygiene. In order to get a broader understanding of the reasons why the compliance of hand hygiene is so low the theory of planned behaviour was used (TPB). This theory explains the human behavior. Aim: The aim of this study was to describe causes of not following recommendations for hand hygiene among health care workers. Method: This literature review was based on quantitative and qualitative scientific articles. Results: The findings indicated that there were several factors that influence the low compliance of hand hygiene recommendations. These were summarized as: workload and lack of time, skin irritation, attitudes and motivation, insufficient access to hand hygiene products, inappropriate glove use, lack of knowledge and unawareness.

Abstract:
Background: The problem of increasing amounts of food packaging waste especially in Germany leads to the challenge of how to minor waste by using no packaging in order to listen to environmental-conscious generation y consumers. This is why retailers need to understand the factors impacting the purchase intention and thus, need to act in higher extend in terms of a preventive sustainable approach. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to examine the purchase intention of German generation y consumers towards packaging-free products. An extended Theory of Planned Behavior forms the theoretical foundation to investigate which factors are influencing the purchase intention the most. In addition to the original TPB factors attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control, the research model was extended by two new factors, namely environmental concern and barriers. Method: Through an explanatory research method, the data was collected in a quantitative online survey based on a sample of 422 respondents. In order to investigate the relationships among the factors and to further support or reject the study’s hypothesis, the data was analyzedby using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation and simple and multiple regression. Finally, to determine differences among groups additional tests have been conducted. Conclusion: The findings of this study revealed new insights about predictors of the purchaseintention: German consumers’ intention is mainly impacted by their attitude, followed by thefactor barriers, and perceived behavioral control, whereas subjective norms do not. Further, the other newly added factor environmental concern indirectly impacts the purchase intention through attitude. Moreover, the importance of including new added factors to the original TPB model is shown as the extended TPB model has improved its power in explaining German generation y’s purchase intention towards packaging free. By that, the respondents of this studyare highly environmental concerned and overall intent to purchase packaging-free products in mainstream grocery stores, oats and milk respectively. This study’s results provide valuable insights for marketers of German mainstream grocery stores who are interested in selectively integrating packaging-free shopping to their stores.

Soltanzadeh, Marjan. "Modeling Triple Phase Boundary (TPB) in Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) Anode." Thesis, University of Ottawa (Canada), 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/10393/28843.

Full text
Abstract:
The idea of having the triple phase boundary (TPB) is extensively used in the fuel cell literature, especially with respect to solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC). The TPB concept indicates that the hydrogen oxidation reaction and the oxygen reduction reaction, which produce electric current, can actually occur at special sites, called "triple phase boundaries" where the gaseous fuel phase, ion conducting phase: electrolyte, and electron conducting phase, come into contact. Recent study shows that despite the common assumption about TPB, it is not just a point, but a zone that consists of two lines. The kinetic reaction often introduces a significant limitation to fuel cell performance. Therefore, understanding, characterizing, and optimizing the TPB content in fuel cells provides excellent opportunities for performance improvement. Studying the kinetics of the reaction that takes place at the triple phase boundary is one aspect of this paper. It includes the study of all kinds of chemical and electrochemical reactions as well as their reaction rates, the surface species, and the electrochemical parameters, such as reaction rate constants and conductivity. A mathematical model is developed to describe a simplified anodic solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system, Ni/ H2--H 2O/YSZ, and its reaction occurring in the vicinity of the triple phase boundary (TPB). The model incorporates coupled diffusion, migration and reaction phenomena of the chemical components in the gas phase, Ni particle and zirconia solid state. The kinetic constants necessary for the simulations are estimated on the basis of literature data.

Abstract:
Hospitality industry has a long history of providing accommodation along with recreation facilities. Resorts are a more recent phenomenon in offering similar services. The similarity stops there as the people who use resorts have different expectations and motives to be there. While hotels are mainly used by the business people and are busier during the weekdays, resorts are generally used for vacation and rest and are busy during holiday season. The difference in the clientele's motivations makes it difficult for the resort marketers to effectively position and market the property to the right segment. There have been many studies done primarily on hotel clients, while resorts have largely been neglected. This study is the first step in evaluating the level of contribution beliefs and past experiences make when Australian tourists decide on their resort accommodation purchase. To achieve this aim the Australian resort market was segmented and then every segment was tested on the model developed for the study. In this study, 412 people responded by filling out the questionnaires that were put in their rooms, by the participating resorts they were staying in. The study targeted all states and Territories of Australia. Every possible precaution was taken to maintain the anonymity of the respondents and the participating resorts to avoid compromising their financial interests. The study found four segments of resort tourists. They were named active conventionalists, young conservatives, elite regulars and veterans. The role of beliefs and past experience in purchase decision was found to be of varying degrees amongst the segments. It was also found that benefit beliefs had the bigger role in resort accommodation selection compared to normative beliefs. Control beliefs had the least role in the formation of the purchase behaviour. It was also found that while the Theory of Planned Behaviour was incapable of predicting resort accommodation purchase behaviour on its own, the addition of past behaviour to the mix increased the predictability perceptibly. The main limitation of the research was that the researcher and the respondents were far removed from each other. It is recommended that in future studies; there must be a provision for qualitative data to complement the quantitative approach. Besides this, there are many more important recommendations made relating to design and application of the questionnaire for future studies. The study also stresses that similar studies should be conducted, preferably on longitudinal basis to confirm or reject the findings of the present study. The present study contributed to the body of knowledge by providing a theoretical framework and suggesting a resort accommodation purchase predictability model incorporating beliefs and past experience of resort tourists. It also provided resort marketing planners with practical recommendations and implications in terms of attracting the right clients to their resorts as well as how to position their resorts for the intended market segment to get the best returns on their investment in marketing.

Abstract:
This paper has identified factors for increased user acceptance and diffusion of Video on Demand(VOD) services through a literature review of previous studies. The literature review was used to make a list of factors that make a consumer more willing to use a VOD service. The factors are then evaluated through a quantitative study using an online questionnaire. The result was to a large degree what was expected, which shows that content and cost are the main factors for a high acceptance, but other factors may play in as well such as ease-of-use, quality, and social factors.

Abstract:
AbstractTravel-related consumer generated media (CGM) plays an increasingly important role in travelers’ decision-making process. Strenuous effort has been dedicated to explore CGM’s impact on users’ travel behaviors. However, little is known about the motivations that drive users to post information on travel-related CGM. By combining the technology acceptance model (TAM), theory of planned behavior (TPB), and uses and gratifications theory (U&G), this study aims to delve into such motivational factors. The results revealed that users’ perceived ease of use when posting content significantly affects perceived usefulness. Additionally, users’ gratification derived from entertainment, information sharing, and rewards could positively influence their attitudes toward content sharing. Moreover, attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and perceived usefulness jointly determine users’ intention to use travel-related CGM for content sharing. However, the impacts of perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, status-seeking, socializing, and passing time on their attitudes toward content sharing were insignificant. This study tests the possibility of combining the TAM, TPB, and U&G to expand their application in the field of travel-related CGM, and provides suggestions for travel-related CGM managers to improve their services.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The concentration gradient of fuel and oxidant gas is great in the plane normal to the solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) three-phase-boundary (TPB) layer, especially in the porous electrode. We present a novel interconnector design, termed bilayer interconnector, for SOFC. It can distribute the fuel and air gas in the plane normal to the SOFC TPB layer. In this paper, we develop a 3D model to study the current density of the SOFC with conventional and novel bi-layer interconnectors. The numerical results show that the novel SOFC design Rib1 can slightly enhance the mass transfer in the porous anode and current density. The novel SOFC design Rib2 can improve the current density significantly under low electrical conductivity of interconnector.

Abstract:
A modified spray pyrolysis approach has been utilized to fabricate anode electrode of a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC). It was designed to control the anode microstructure to achieve large triple phase boundaries (TPBs) and high gas diffusion capability, which are critical in enhancing the performance of a SOFC. Deposition of porous anode film of Nickel and Ce0.9Gd0.1O1.95 on dense 8 mol.% yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) substrate was carried out using the modified spray pyrolysis. Effects of precursor solution feed rates, precursor solution concentrations and deposition temperatures on the TPB formation and porosity were investigated. The composition of the deposited anode film was evaluated by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Scanning electron microscope (SEM) examinations revealed that the deposition temperature and precursor solution concentration were the most critical parameters that influenced the morphology, porosity and the particle size of the anode film.

Abstract:
A coupled electrochemical reaction and diffusion model has been developed and verified for investigation of mass transport processes in Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) anode triple-phase boundary (TPB) regions. The coupled model utilizes a two-dimensional (2D), multi-species Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) to model the diffusion process. The electrochemical model is coupled through localized flux boundary conditions and is a function of applied activation overpotential and the localized hydrogen and water mole fractions. This model is designed so that the effects of the anode microstructure within TPB regions can be examined in detail. Results are provided for the independent validation of the electrochemical and diffusion sub-models, as well as for the coupled model. An analysis on a single closed pore is completed and validated with a Fick's law solution. A competition between the electrochemical reaction rate and the rate of mass transfer is observed to be dependent on inlet hydrogen mole fraction. The developed model is presented such that future studies on SOFC anode microstructures can be completed.

Abstract:
Total lead (TPb) exists in Crude Wastewater (CW) from production of Lead-Acid Batteries (LABs) in water (WPb) and solid phase (SPb) as colloids and suspended solids. Sludges produced in chemical treatment of these wastewater were dewatered in Chamber Pressure Press (CPP). Samples of dewatered sludges (Ss) were analyzed with Toxicological Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) to determine concentration of Pb in the extract (Ex(TCLP)). Selected sludges were also analyzed using Tessier’s procedure for fractions. Concentration of lead in filtrates (Fs) as well as in the sludges were different, depending on the mechanisms involved in converting soluble lead to its less soluble forms. Sludges produced in chemical treatment with 10% NaOH and Lime Milk (LM), CaO or Ca(OH)2, followed by coagulation with (Ixonos Na3T ®) contained lowest concentration of lead. The TPb in filtrates below 0.4 mg/L at pH > 8.90±0.3, and Ex(TCLP) of less than 5.0 mg/L were obtained in this treatment. Potential recovery of lead from sludges have been investigated.
