Abstract:
Tourists as the main actor in tourism industry play an essential role in achieving sustainable tourism. Tourist preference for physical environment and infrastructure development in the tourism destination can affect the achievement of sustainable tourism. This study aims at measuring tourist preference for sustainable tourism management and calculating the economic value of the tourism destination. For this purpose, the Pok Tunggal Beach tourist area in Yogyakarta Indonesia was considered as a case study site. A survey with 200 local tourists was conducted using the Choice Modeling (CM) technique to measure their preferences related to the development on the beach. This study found that tourists prefer to pay more fees to get better and more sustainable facilities. The economic value of the Pok Tunggal Beach is the amount of IDR 1,038,600 (USD 73.66). The main attributes in the destination, tourist's education, environmental awareness, and recreation costs are statistically significant in determining tourists' preferences. This study recommends Pok Tunggal beach quality improvement by considering the tourist preferences. This study also suggests a price for the entrance fees, not only to increase revenue but also to monitor and control the number of tourists who visit the beach.

Abstract:
Ecotourism and environmental balance is a new phenomenon aimed to research, study and meditate in nature, flora and fauna and the provision of human comfort. Ecotourism is the only way to maximize the economic, environmental and social benefits of tourism. The main problem is represented in the difficulty of balancing the preservation of eco-tourism sites with the process of attracting tourists to eco-tourism sites.A number of hypotheses have been developed, the most important of which are: There is no statistically significant negative impact of tourist on tourist sites. The study concluded a number of results and the most important of these results is that the tourist has a negative impact on eco-tourism sites, represented by tourist's cutting trees, and dumping waste and dirt in streets which is an uncivilized act and harmful to the environment. The study has also shown that tourists influence the eco-tourism sites since eco-tourism requires an environmental awareness, and the tourist should be aware that the protection of touristic sites is mandatory for everyone. The tourist's awareness has a great role in preserving the environment, so the educated tourist is necessary to preserve the eco-tourism sites. The study has a set of recommendations, the most important of these recommendations:To increase the awareness of tourists about the importance of the environment and maintaining it by using leaflets that explain the importance of the environment for tourism,To intensify the penalties and legal procedures against the attacks on eco-tourism sites, and to modify laws and regulations in order to promote touristic services.

Abstract:
With the acceleration of globalization, international tourism has developed rapidly, especially in Seoul. Tourist bubble phenomenon appears with the development of international tourism. The term “tourist bubble” was originally proposed by Cohen, which conceptualized as the “protective walls” to reduce strangeness when tourist encounter a new environment and create a psychological space. The tourist bubble comprises a concentrated geographic area of tourist-oriented facilities and attractions, which is separated from its surrounding environment by spatially or psychologically created boundaries. Many studies focus more on the classification and formation process of the tourist bubble, but rarely involve tourists’ perception of tourist bubbles and the destination experience of tourists in the tourist bubble. Therefore, in this paper, it used Chinese tourists traveling in the tourist bubble of Seoul as a case to analyze the perception of international tourists on the tourist bubble phenomenon and the destination experience of tourists. It classified 5 types of Chinese tourists to identify their experience in Seoul. By using Q methodology, a technique designed for the systematic study of subjectivity in terms of beliefs, opinions, and attitudes, to find the subjectivity of Chinese tourists in the tourist bubble. It aims to provide reasonable tourism planning suggestions that how to make use of the tourist bubble phenomenon to make better tourism marketing for the Korean international tourism market.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate how smart tourism technologies and memorable tourism experiences affect tourist satisfaction and tourist destination loyalty. Design/methodology/approach A total of 600 questionnaires were distributed, 360 were returned (60% response rate) and a covariance-based structural equation modeling technique was used to test the hypotheses. Findings The results of this study explain that smart tourism technologies and memorable tourism experiences play essential roles in enhancing tourist satisfaction and tourist destination loyalty. Practical implications This study specifies that tourists have pleasant memories and are satisfied at a tourist destination; as a result, they are more likely to revisit and recommend a tourist destination to their friends, family and other tourists. If a tourist has a negative experience with smart city info-structure facilities, a tourist might reach an overall conclusion to not revisit or recommend the location to other tourists. Originality/value This study provides empirical evidence to support the importance of smart tourism technologies and memorable tourism experiences in enhancing tourist satisfaction and tourist destination loyalty.

Abstract:
Although high-quality tourism destinations directly determine the tourism experiences of tourists and the management focuses of tourism management departments, existing studies have paid little attention to the relationship between tourism destinations of differing quality and tourist experiences. This study analyzed the spatiotemporal distribution of tourists and the quality of tourism destinations in Urumqi based on Tencent migration big data and Weibo sign-in big data and ultimately determined whether there are spatial correlations between the two. The results show that there are large differences in quality between different tourist destinations, and although the spatial and temporal distribution of tourists is not strongly correlated with the quality of tourist destinations, we can divide tourist destinations into four categories based on the correlations between the two (e.g., high-quality tourist destinations with a low number of tourists). The results of this study provide tourists with examples of high-quality tourist destinations, thus improving their holiday experiences, and they also provide a basis by which tourism management departments can manage and develop tourist destinations. The results of this study can also be extended to other regions and play a positive role in promoting the development of the tourism industry.

Li, Mohan. "Tourist photography and the tourist gaze : an empirical study of Chinese tourists in the UK." Thesis, University of Central Lancashire, 2015. http://clok.uclan.ac.uk/12879/.

Full text
Abstract:
This study seeks to deepen knowledge and understanding of the tourist gaze and tourist photography. The original concept of the ‘tourist gaze as proposed by John Urry is inherently Western-centric and, as a consequence, it is arguably of limited value as a conceptual framework for appraising the tastes, gazes and, more generally, the visual practices of the increasing number of non-Western tourists’. At the same, despite the fact that, in recent years, smart phone cameras have become widely used by people both in their everyday lives in general and in their travels in particular, few attempts have been made to explore and analyse the potential transformations brought to the landscape of the tourist photography by the increasing use of smart phone cameras. The purpose of this thesis, therefore, is to re-conceptualise and study empirically the tourist gaze and tourist photographic behaviour, as influenced by a variety of social, cultural and technological factors, amongst non-Western tourists. More specifically, it aims to explore the visual preferences of Chinese tourists in the UK, to consider critically what and how they take photographs of, and to evaluate the extent to which their gazes, their performance of gazing and their photographic practices are shaped by social, cultural and technological factors. In order to meet this aim, the qualitative research method of visual autoethnography is employed during two field studies with Chinese tourists in the UK. More precisely, a first field study was based on a seven-day package tour undertaken with eighteen Chinese tourists, visiting a total of thirteen destinations around British destinations. The second field study, in contrast, involved the researcher undertaking a five-day holiday with six Chinese tourists to the Isle of Wight off the south coast of England. During these two field studies, the researcher adopted the role of ‘researcher-as-tourist’, engaging in travel with the respondents, staying in the same accommodation, joining in with their activities and taking photographs with them. These first-hand travel and photographic experiences conspired to become an integral part of the resultant data resources which were not only analysed but also shared with the respondents during interviews with them. From the data collected during the two field studies and, indeed, the autoethnographic experiences of the researcher, it became clearly evident that smart phone cameras had become the principal means of taking photographs amongst Chinese tourists. Moreover, smart phone cameras have also altered the landscape of tourist photography, primarily by de-exoticising this practice and further enhancing its ‘playfulness’ and increasing its social functions. During the field studies, the Chinese tourist respondents engaged in a variety of visual and photographic activities, purposefully including but by no means being confined to an interactive game of photo-taking and photo-sharing, imagining authenticity, sensing the passing of time from gazing on natural spectacles, and deliberately observing what they considered to be ‘advanced’ aspects of the toured destination. Based upon these identified performances and practices, this thesis proposes the concept and framework of the Chinese tourist gaze. That framework essentially establishes what Chinese tourists prefer to see during their travels and seeks to explain why and how they see certain specific spectacles or tourist objects. At the same time, it theoretically re-situates both their gazes and their ways of gazing within a network of influential social, cultural and technological factors, including: the travel patterns of the élite in pre-modern China; the cultural characteristics of Chinese people; the intertwining of contemporary communication and photography technologies; and, the fusion of the Chinese nation-state, its economic policies policies and the resultant social and environmental problems that have emerged over the last three decades. Moreover, the framework points to potential future transformations in the Chinese tourist gaze, such as the de-exoticisation of that tourist gaze. The principal contribution of this thesis to extant knowledge is the concept and framework of the Chinese tourist gaze, as this may provide future researchers with the foundation for continuing to study and more profoundly understand the tastes, gazes, practices of gazing and other visual activities, including photography, of Chinese tourists. Indeed, given the inherent Western-centric bias in the relevant literature, an appropriate theoretical framework enabling them to do has, arguably, not previously existed. In addition, the dimensions and characteristics of tourist smart-phone-photography revealed in this research are of much significance, contributing to a deeper, richer understanding of transformations in the practice of tourist photography and, in particular, of why and how contemporary Chinese tourists take photographs. Furthermore, through identifying and exploring how the Chinese respondents in this study shared their photographs, greater knowledge and understanding has emerged of Chinese tourists’ technological travel communication and connections as well as their attitudes towards and use of the multiplicity of social networking sites and mobile-apps.

Travlou, Spyridoula Penny. "Urban tourism in Athens : tourist myths and images." Thesis, Durham University, 2000. http://etheses.dur.ac.uk/4521/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis explores and analyses the mythical quality of modem Athens as experienced by tourists. It is an exploration of the tourist gaze upon the Athenian landscape, as well as an account of how tourists narrate its urban mythology. This research is largely concerned with the relationship of time and space through memory, exploring the interplay between the spatial arrangement of urban elements, temporality and the experience of the city. Athens is viewed as a city marked by a temporal collage where different historical periods are juxtaposed. This juxtaposition gives Athens the character of a deconstructed city. The city is made present through spatialised remainders, her genius loci. This thesis thus analyses the relationship between Athens past and the present, the strangely familiar and the stereotypically exotic, as interwoven within an urban landscape imagined, gazed and finally, narrated by foreign tourists. The core argument of this work is that the Athenian landscape embodies an urban mythology constructed by the nineteenth century romantic travellers: these, through their writings, fashioned the stereotypical imagery of Athens. Modem tourists are the consumers of these myths. Like their nineteenth century predecessors, tourists stroll around the city following the traces of their memory - key landmarks and symbols, recognising what they have already known; feeling nostalgic for the past -their past, fragmenting the landscape into different historic layers, depopulating it from its present inhabitants, orientalising it. In this work I explore the transmission and reinvention of the myths of Athens through guidebooks, travel brochures, guided tours and tourist photographs. The exploration of the different images of Athens as visualised by tourists leads to a discussion of gendered, orientalised, literary, photographic and cartographic aspects of the Athenian urban landscape. The theoretical framework of the thesis is based on post-modernism, post-structuralism and semiotics. My research methods have been qualitative, including both in-depth interviews and participant observation, following tourists around the city and participating in their activities. I also analysed the ways tourists 'gaze' and photograph the city. My intention is to draw -metaphorically speaking- a mental map including the sites visited, consumed and experienced by tourists.

Curtin, Susanna C. "Wildlife tourism : tourist expectations, experiences and management implications." Thesis, Bournemouth University, 2008. http://eprints.bournemouth.ac.uk/10303/.

Full text
Abstract:
The literature demonstrates that wildlife tourism, which can incorporate anything from insects (dragonflies, butterflies, glow-worms), flowers, mammals and birds, has become a potentially lucrative activity which is attracting attention from tourists and destinations. There are both positive and negative impacts associated with wildlife tourism. It can contribute to the conservation of threatened habitats / species, provide economic benefit to local communities attract new types of tourists to remote and economically peripheral areas, and provide environmental education and psychological benefits to tourists. Less desired outcomes of wildlife tourism imply that as places and their wildlife become more popular, tourist numbers and infrastructure increases and so too do incidences of disturbance which directly impact upon the well-being and sustainability of the focal wildlife populations such as the disruption of daily behaviour including feeding, breeding, and resting. Whether the positives outweigh the benefits has yet to be tried or tested and may well depend upon how the resource and visitors are managed which in turn depends upon understanding the expectations, the behaviour and the experiential benefits sought by tourists. Given the spectrum of tourist-wildlife opportunities, it follows that wildlife tourists are by no means an homogenous market, there are significant variations in typologies, from the 'serious' to the 'casual' and from the 'specialist' to the 'generalist'. Therefore planning and management become more difficult as the behaviour and needs of each segment differ enormously. Up until now, the human dimensions of watching wildlife have been rather overlooked in the tourism literature; and particularly the experiential and psychological benefits of wildlife tourism have not been adequately explored or applied to the management and marketing of destinations. Using a sample of British tourists, the aim of this research was, therefore, to explore the culture of wildlife tourism in order to contribute a better understanding of what it means to enjoy wildlife experiences, the content of what exactly is enjoyed, the process through which people attend to and perceive wildlife and the emotional responses it provokes. Inherent in this thesis is the discussion of the human dimensions of wildlife, namely how wildlife tourists perceive the natural world, whether they have eco, anthropocentric or anthropomorphic views of the animal kingdom, and whether the application of biophilia, our supposed inherent desire to connect with other, non-human, living things, can be applied to wildlife tourism. In addition the author explored the field skills involved in wildlife watching with regards to identification and photography, what constitutes a memorable experience, and finally the expectations and benefits of travelling on an organised wildlife holiday. In order to satisfy this aim, an ethnographic approach to data generation was employed in two distinct stages. First in-depth interviews were carried out with British tour operators to investigate the business of wildlife tour operating, to discover who the main operators are, the types of products that they offer, the profile of the clients that they attract as well as the management and delivery of their tours. This showed that the wildlife tourism market can be divided into different typologies, for example, birders, `listers' and general naturalists. Secondly, the author joined two tour groups within the general naturalist market, one birdwatching tour to Andalucia to watch the Autumn migration and one whale and bird-watching tour on the Sea of Cortez, Baja California. Whilst on tour, field journals were kept to record the days' events, participants emotional responses to wildlife, and her own observations of tour leading. These journals were coupled with in-depth interviews of tour participants whilst on tour and later in-depth interviews with people who regularly take dedicated wildlife holidays. This ethnographic study of these dedicated general naturalists reveals a number of important themes which may be of use for future studies such as: how interest in wildlife began, how wildlife watching is part of everyday life not just a holiday activity, the fascination with how wildlife adapts to human / urban environments and the relationship with regular wildlife visitors in their garden. In addition it highlights how wildlife tourism is used as a symbol of self presentation, how it is important to develop skills such as identification of species and photography, and how spontaneity, close proximity to wildlife, high numbers and first sightings all make for memorable experiences. There are a number of profound and psychological benefits which the nature of this study allowed to come to the fore, and that was the wonderment and sense of awe at the beauty and diversity of the natural world, of really feeling alive and in 'flow' when watching wildlife and how being in 'flow' distorts time. Linked to this is the spiritual fulfilment and sustenance provided by nature. The physical attributes of the wildlife holiday highlight the important role of the tour leader, their knowledge of species and of where to see them as well as the demonstration of responsible wildlife watching behaviour. Participants voiced their desire for relaxation, for meeting like-minded people and for sharing experiences with others. Finally participants appeared to be aware of potential negative impacts and liked to see responsible tour operating. The thesis ends by discussing the practical implications of these findings for industry and for wider society, and concludes by suggesting areas for future research. "An honest experience of nature would find that the natural world is an arena of endurance, tragedy and sacrifice as much as joy and uplift. It is about the struggle against the weather, the perils of migration, the ceaseless vigilance against predators, the loss of whole families and the brevity of existence. The natural world is like a theatre, a stage beyond our own, in which the dramas that are an irreducible part of being alive are played out without hatred or envy or hypocrisy. No wonder they tell us so much about ourselves and our own frailties" (Mabey 2006: 13). "

Abstract:
It may be said that this thesis aims at understanding the spatial articulation between tourism and communication in such situations as those in which an individual subject – expressing the whole peculiarity of his or her desire through telling or practices – and collective actors are brought together. My reflection thus organises itself in accordance with the modalities of the articulation between the three dimensions of tourism: the practical dimension, the symbolic dimension and the imaginary dimension.Tourist activity consists in travelling and in visiting a site, a place or a destination; tourist mediation means the range of activities that are organised around tourism or those that are associated to it. Tourist mediation concerns the agents and the practices in the field of tourism. In this context, I wish to show that tourist mediation structures the perceptions, the interpretations and the practises of space.I address the definitions; give an overview of academic research on tourism and address the notions of tourism through the etymology of its main words (tour, tourism, and tourist) and through the differences that exist between tourism and other notions similar to it such as leisure, vacations, holiday and travelling. These notions are necessary to the comprehending of tourist mediation.I intend to lay the foundations of the field of tourist mediation and to demonstrate that the social practise of tourism is a form of mediation. I will present the tourist objects that structure the tourist practises of space. The structures of tourist mediation will then be laid; this will enable me to craft a “critical theory” of tourist mediation. With a view to understanding how the practises and the scenes of tourism organise, I will subsequently widen the concept by presenting the operators, the agents and the policies of the tourist organisation; the examples and the studies of the latter are mainly concerned with mediation and mediators in the case of France. I situate tourist mediation in relation to the experience of otherness and to the relationship to the others, to wanderlust, to the tourist imagination and to cultural imagination too. I then describe and give a two-point analysis of the tourist information system. The first point is concerned with the enunciation of space produced by the tourist, the tourists and by the tourist mediators (the enunciation of the guide’s discourse for instance) through various multimedia telling. The second point is concerned with the enunciation, through the tourist media (non-specialised or tourism media, tourist guides), by the speakers (e.g. operators and private or public agents of the tourist organisation) of the communication strategies and of the tourist descriptive signing. This discourse analysis relates to examples of textual and/or iconic documents

Abstract:
In September 2008, the Lord Mayor of Perth announced her vision for Perth to be more ‘gayfriendly’. Her vision aroused some dissonance from the ultra conservatives. The aim of this thesis is to determine the attractiveness of Perth as a lesbian destination. The significance of this study is to understand local lesbian residents’ perceptions of Perth as a ‘lesbian-friendly’ destination, and to evaluate the motivation and satisfaction of lesbian-tourists to Perth. The methodology used included participation observation at the 2009 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade; a semi-structured focus group interview of 4 self-identified lesbian Perth residents, and a purposive sample, using snowball effect, of 112 self-identified lesbians for an on-line survey. The data was analysed using content and statistical analysis. The findings were interpreted using a social constructivist approach, within a male feminist framework. The findings indicated that slightly over a quarter of lesbian Perth residents felt that Perth is ‘lesbian-friendly’ (27%). Whilst ‘culture and sights’ was the top motivator for a lesbian vacation (94%), ‘visiting friends and family’ was the top motivator for lesbian tourists visiting Perth (71%). Slightly over a tenth of lesbian tourists were satisfied with lesbian attractions in Perth (13%). Overall, only a small number of respondents found Perth to be their first-choice ‘lesbian-friendly’ destination (6%), with an overwhelming majority wanting to see more lesbian attractions (85%), and 5% agreeing that there are sufficient lesbian venues. These results strongly suggest that Perth is not ‘lesbian-friendly’, and lacks attractions and venues as an attractive lesbian tourist destination. Recommendations for further research arising from these findings include undertaking a comparison between Perth and other Australian cities in terms of lesbian tourism.

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper presents a conceptual framework “sitesharing” for understanding touristic consumption within the smart tourism paradigm. Smart tourism considers the use of ICTs as beneficial and essential to the future of tourism. However, the integration of technological intermediaries with the sphere of tourism bears investigation in terms of the wider effects on tourism processes. Taking an interdisciplinary stance, the paper utilizes an internet studies perspective in order to examine the political, social, and cultural implications of the integration of ICTs within tourism. Through the exploration of three key metaphors drawn from across the fields of study: performance, place, and sharing; the paper considers how ICTs influence tourists’ consumption, telling, and experiencing of tourism. The framework of sitesharing argues that sharing, rather than seeing, becomes the requisite practice of tourists with concomitant changes in the form of tourist practice and the shape of tourist places. From the discussion, four emergent dimensions of sitesharing are presented with the intention of informing future tourism research.

Abstract:
AbstractSocial robots such as chatbots are regarded as a practical approach to alleviate loneliness. Few studies in the tourism field have focused on loneliness and its impact on the acceptance of chatbots used by the tourism industry. This paper explores the factors influencing tourists’ willingness to use chatbots from the perspective of loneliness by combining theories related to anthropomorphism and the uncanny valley effect. This paper adopts a qualitative research method by taking a semi-structured interview with 15 tourists who have used travel chatbots before. The results show that in addition to perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness, there are three factors (tourist loneliness, perceived anthropomorphism, and user anxiety) that directly influence tourists’ acceptance of travel chatbots. Moreover, tourist loneliness positively influences user anxiety through perceived anthropomorphism. User anxiety has a negative effect on perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. This research then proposed an extended TAM model from the perspective of tourist loneliness. This paper enriches the research on loneliness as well as chatbots in the tourism field. The results provide suggestions for the practical application of travel chatbots.

AbstractThe research aims to propose a new method for the analysis based on face and picture content recognition technologies, travel habits, and preferences that were grouped by age, gender, and the background of tourist attractions utilized by photographers. This study uses content analysis to identify potential destinations associated with tourists visiting East Java tourist villages. The researchers analyzed 262 photos of 501 people on Facebook and Instagram. The researchers analyzed the state and condition of tourism using photos captured by tourists as the background and classified them according to the dimensions of cognitive imagery such as the natural surroundings, food, public amenities, time and entertainment, the culture of the tourist village destination and history, architectural styles, and rural life. The results show that the leisure and entertainment dimensions have the highest frequency of tourists at 36%, followed by public amenities (27%), natural surroundings (23%), and other dimensions such as food, art, cultural history, architectural styles, and rural life. Further development by the village government and community is needed to attract better tourists to visit the tourist villages, as the tourist village’s success will increase the community’s economy.

AbstractThe COVID-19 pandemic has had a destructive effect on the tourism sector, especially on tourists’ fears and risk perceptions, and is likely to have a lasting impact on their intention to travel. Governments and businesses worldwide looking to revive and revamp their tourism sector, therefore, must first develop a critical understanding of tourist concerns starting from the dreaming/planning phase to booking, travel, stay, and experiencing. This formed the motivation of this study, which empirically examines the tourist sentiments and concerns across the tourism supply chain. Natural Language Processing (NLP) using sentiment analysis and Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) approach was applied to analyze the semi-structured survey data collected from 72 respondents. Practitioners and policymakers could use the study findings to enable various support mechanisms for restoring tourist confidence and help them adjust to the’new normal.’

AbstractTourist satisfaction has been recognized as a key element for tourism growth and promotion in all sectors of the tourism industry. Although several studies have been published analysing the importance of cruise tourism to local and national economies, only few of them address the relation between cruise tourist satisfaction and tourism expenditures, especially in new ports of call. This paper examines such interrelations to passengers’ expenditure on goods and services during their stay in a port. The analysis is based on a survey on cruise passengers porting in Argostoli, which is the main port of Kefalonia island (Greece). Findings indicate that cruise passengers’ satisfaction is a key element to elevated levels of expenditure during staying on a visited port, since there is a strong correlation between tourists spending and level of tourist satisfaction. This empirical evidence provided from the analysis of the data present implications for policymakers in search of methods to stimulate economic growth and development on tourist destinations.

Abstract:
AbstractSustainable development of tourism is an important tool to stimulate the development of tourist areas. An important role in this process is played by the local community, which is an important capital in the development of tourism, as well as a beneficiary of changes. Their attitudes, behaviors and involvement in development processes have a key impact on achieving environmental, social and economic goals of sustainable tourism development. The analysis will consider the role of residents in the following aspects: co-creator of the tourist product, beneficiary of the introduced improvements and changes, and direct recipient of the positive and negative effects of the development of tourism and recreation. The development of tourism has contributed to the significant development of regions frequently visited by tourists, but the dissatisfaction of local communities with the inappropriate attitude of tourists and their impact on the quality of life is growing. The aim of the work is to identify the factors of the quality of life of the inhabitants, on the example of Poland, which stimulate and the development of tourism in a sustainable process. The author of this study obtained the consent of selected communes to publish the survey on their websites. A total of 4257 respondents were surveyed. There is a change in the standard of living of users and socio-economic changes in the scale of a territorial unit. These changes are local in nature and are noticeable to both residents and tourists. The author's research, the results of which are presented, indicate that there are groups of local communities that have different views on the implementation of local tourist goals. There are strong links between the quality of life of the local population and their contribution to the tourism product and the problems that tourism brings. The study complements the analysis of individual tourist regions in Poland presented so far and provide a broader view of the opportunities and threats in sustainable development.

Abstract:
AbstractTourism is the most affected industry by the Covid-19 pandemic. Both market changes and the new tourism development paradigm require reformulation of marketing strategies. More importantly, the new paradigm of tourism development in Indonesia, that is, the quality tourism paradigm, requires a reformulation of marketing strategies. Based on historical data (visitor statistics pre-pandemic) and current market data (during the pandemic), this research performed a cluster analysis to cluster the international tourist markets visiting Indonesia. The clustering was based on several variables: number, spending, and length of stay of tourists from each of the markets. The resulted clusters offer perspectives on the source markets, contributing to the biggest number of tourists, spending per tourist, and the average length of stay. As competition intensifies and the marketing budget shrinks, such market analysis provides sharpened market targeting strategies for the Indonesian tourism government and industry to formulate more targeted marketing strategies post-Covid 19 pandemic.

Abstract:
Today, the tourism industry has grown rapidly and many destinations have been recognised as tourist niches in a bid to stay competitive in the industry. Island tourism is one of the most popular tourism niches. Island tourism in Malaysia has lured tourists from all over the world to come to Malaysia, offering tourist a unique and unforgettable tourism experience. It has become one of the most famous types of activities tourists. Moreover, tourists are showing an increasing interest in local foods at the destination and dining has become a special experience while on vacation. Dining itself is a pleasurable sensory experience that is a key part of the holiday experience, which influences a tourists’ experience and makes it memorable and this in turn influences the tourist’s intention to revisit the destination, especially an island destination. However, the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the subsequent Movement Control Order (MCO) and COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) enforced to control the spread of the pandemic have significantly influenced tourists dining behaviours and perceptions particularly with regard to dine-in options at any food establishment/outlets.

The growing importance of tourism for the economic development of the country has led to a change in the awareness of tourism service providers towards continuous improvement of their quality. Improving the quality of tourist services is one of the keys to meeting the needs of increasingly demanding tourists. Tourist satisfaction with the provided service is recognized as one of the key factors by which tourists measure service quality, which also influences their choice of tourist destination. The purpose of this study is to understand the relationship between service quality and tourist satisfaction using the SERVQUAL model. Based on data collected from 87 tourists, it can be concluded that the overall quality of tourist services provided by spa tourism is somewhat satisfactory and requires constant improvement in service quality.

Abstract:
Nautical tourism is a growing sector that records excellent tourist results even in this uncertain time of the pandemic covid 19. According to the statistical data, an increasing number of people use the tourist offer of nautical tourism and cruising. Modern tourists need more than just accommodation and food. They are looking for a more sophisticated tourist offer and they find it in destinations that offer a diverse touristic product. Sea voyages or cruises record constant growth and resource development. With a nautical charter, the focus on the peak season is slightly smaller than is the case with the overall tourist traffic, while at the same time the share of pre-season and post-season is higher. In this way, the negative consequences of the seasonality of tourism are mitigated. Today in the time of the pandemic, this is an ideal type of vacation because it is less massive, with limited capacities and fluctuations.

Abstract:
The paper is about defining tourist regions. The types of regions (homogeneous, nodal, planning/administrative) and corresponding approaches to tourism regionalization are presented. These approaches are compared with each other based on the criterion of tourism performance. The number of overnight stays of tourists in collective accommodation establishments is the key tourism performance indicator, which represents the size of the purchasing power of tourism in a curtain region. The findings show that the analysed approaches in some cases very significantly influence the current tourism performance. These disproportions are evident especially in the case of administratively defined "tourist" regions. The aim of this paper is to identify criteria for complex competitive tourist regions. As a result, the complexity of the region is in the connection of the territory's potential and destination processes (3C – cooperation); the competitiveness of the region is determined by the purchasable demand and financial resources of the DMO; and the touristic aspect of the region is contained directly in the territory's potential.

In this study, the authors planned on doing a theoretical journey in the field of tourism. In this respect, the main theoretical approaches will be presented regarding the concept of tourism, its components - the tourist demand, the tourist offer, respectively their characteristics and the factors of influence. Last but not least, the forms of tourist activities will be addressed. The work ends with the presentation of the main trends of the tourist market in our country, by emphasizing the role of urban tourism and the preferences of consumers of tourist serivices. Tourism is in a continuous evolution, and the preferences of the consumers in the matter of vacations change from year to year. Therefore, nowadays the tourists are much more informed about the holiday, they know very well what exactly they want and under what conditions. They have begun to analyze more companies from which they want to buy vacations, are increasingly turning to trusted brands, even if they will pay a higher price for the same services of the tourist package. They prefer trusted agencies, and this does not appeal to small and lesser known agencies.

Abstract:
The tourism industry is very sensitive to the influence of various crisis situations which can have smaller or greater negative impact on its development. Many tourist destinations closed their borders due to the development of a global pandemic of COVID-19, which resulted in a dramatic reduction of tourist turnover as well as the temporary stop of normal functioning of the tourism industry. Moreover, the current health crisis influenced significantly the changes in decision-making process of tourists when choosing a holiday destination and the way of organizing their journey. The purpose of this paper is to examine the relations among travel risk perception, tourist behavior during travel and the frequency of travel among Serbian residents when the individual characteristics of the respondents are controlled. Results of the empirical research indicate that tourist’s behavior during travel is positively connected with the travel risk perception. Furthermore, age and education affect the travel risk perception.

This paper analyzes tourist inflows as a determinant of merchandise exports for the Pacific and finds that inbound tourism to Pacific developing member countries significantly increases merchandise exports from these economies. Exports are further boosted if international tourists come from countries with which Pacific developing member countries have a shared language, formed an economic partnership through free trade agreements, and have easy visa policies. The paper recommends that inbound tourism to the Pacific is leveraged to diversify economic activities and develop industries, such as garments or souvenir-related manufacturing.

Abstract:
This brief presents simulations of an Ebola scare in the Caribbean, including three highly tourism-dependent economies, The Bahamas, Barbados, and Jamaica. On the basis of the experience of Mexico in 2009 with swine flu, we simulate a short but sharp drop in tourist arrivals resulting from tourists' worries about Ebola. The Caribbean is special in that tourism contributes directly and indirectly up to half of its GDP. The simulations indicate that the volatility of tourism combined with that dependence creates significant vulnerability for the region. Under the worst-case scenario, a noticeable impact could be expected even in countries with a smaller dependence on tourism. In addition, declines could also be expected for employment and revenues. However, 'pandemic scares' can be short-lived and the simulations indicate that the Caribbean would be able to absorb a short tourism drop. The intensity and duration of the outfall in tourism would depend on the real and perceived preparedness of the affected countries, highlighting that countries in the Caribbean need to not only avoid or minimize any Ebola cases but also ensure that tourists perceive these countries as safe places.

Abstract:
In the new socio-economic conditions in the education system, forms of organization of tourist and local history activities are developing, which are based on traditions, experience of extracurricular and extracurricular work, taking into account the changes that have occurred in the country. Life requires that the tasks facing educational institutions are resolved quickly and have not just any solution, but one that optimizes the pedagogical process. At the same time, these requirements come into conflict with the state of the education system, the limited ability of most parents to create conditions for the full development of the child. The tasks facing the education system can be implemented in tourism and local history activities. The main task is to create the necessary conditions for the comprehensive development of the child’s personality, his social adaptation in the process of participation in various types of tourist and local history activities. However, the school teacher is not ready to organize and conduct tourist and local history activities at school, as he is not professionally prepared for this activity. Questions of the organization, forms and methods of teacher training for the organization of tourist and local history activities are practically not reflected in the educational and methodological literature. There are no scientific studies that would allow us to effectively solve the pedagogical tasks of preparing the organizers of tourist and local history activities in the school.
