Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to develop a model to investigate the tourists’ preference. Ten attributes of tourist destinations were used in this study. Fuzzy set theory was adopted as the main analysis method to find the tourists’ preference. In this study, 248 pieces of data were used. Besides the evaluations for the factors, the overall evaluations (namely, satisfied, neutral, and dissatisfied) for every tourism destination were also inquired. After screening, 201 pieces of these data could be used. In these 201 pieces of data, 141 were classified into “satisfied” with the tourism destination, accounting for 70.15%, and 49 were “neutral,” accounting for 24.38%, while 11 were “dissatisfied,” accounting for 5.47%. Eight rules were obtained with the method of fuzzy preprocess. Regarding the condition attributes, three of the original ten attributes were found influential, namely, level of prices, living costs, information and tourist services, and tourist safety of the tourism destinations. From the results of this study, it is shown that top management of tourism destinations should put resources in these fields first, in order to allow limited resources to perform to maximum effectiveness.

Abstract:
Rich in history and culture, heritage sites often evoke stirring emotions and memories. We analyzed historical poetry using grounded theory and high-frequency word and semantic analysis to construct historic landscape images (HLIs) of the West Lake UNESCO World Heritage Site in Hangzhou, China. GPS trajectory data were used to identify hot and cold tourist spots and understand the site’s intra-attraction tourist behaviors (IATBs). Finally, we analyzed the HLI–IATB relationship. We found that the tourist distribution was uneven, and different attractions had different visitor behaviors. Our findings should inform future heritage site management—and neighboring cities—about the benefits of using HLIs to predict attraction visitors’ behaviors and leveraging those insights to optimize multiple-attraction sites proportionally. Such projections can provide new perspectives for heritage studies, landscape planning, and tourism image-making.

Abstract:
This article uses practice theory to analyse experience value creation in an innovative tourism setting characterised by high interdependence between tourism actors. The theory is applied in a case- and action-oriented study of a themed restaurant in a medieval re-enactment centre. It exemplifies how integration of a restaurant into a specific attraction theme provides opportunities for experience value co-creation through tourism practices. It also illustrates how integration can cause co-destruction of experience value. The action-oriented part of the study included a workshop, interviews and other communication with relevant actors. It aimed to sustain a change of practices, providing solutions to issues of value-co-destruction found in the case study. The article theorises and illustrates the complexity of experience value creation in complex tourist settings and suggests how a practice theory approach to innovation may lead to value creation in tourism and be a powerful tool for tourism managers.

Abstract:
PurposeA general point of commitment theory is that the more individuals behave in a certain way toward an entity, the more attractive they feel toward that entity. The main purpose of this study is to investigate whether an individual’s perceived attractiveness toward a tourist destination is enhanced by the number of actual visits to each different attraction within the destination, being controlled by satisfaction.Design/methodology/approachIn doing so, data were collected from 613 individuals at major tourist attractions and traffic centers in Daejeon Metropolitan City, South Korea. Hierarchical multiple regression was used to examine the findings, and the conclusions drawn indicate that there is a statistically significant relationship between the number of visits to different attractions and the perceived attractiveness of the destination, as well as the interaction effect between the number of visits to different attractions and satisfaction.FindingsThe results are supported by literature in the area of commitment theory, in which various authors state that attitudes are evoked by behaviors. Further examination of the findings and conclusions drawn are described in this paper.Practical implicationsThis mechanism should strategically be applied to practical implications to provide more accessible routes to a destination and a networking system. When visitors engage in a community in various ways, they are more likely to continue to engage in a community because they do not prefer to have intangible or tangible costs associated with disengagement.Originality/valueThis paper is the first application of the concept of commitment traced from its original psychological theory to the field of tourism. The effort justification paradigm of commitment theory postulates that if individuals work or study hard toward a specific goal, they gradually perceive the goal as attractive. This study found that the aforementioned paradigm shift is expanded to various types of behaviors, including that involving travel. This paper contributes to an in-depth understanding of the original commitment theory and its application to tourism.

Abstract:
This paper integrates a low-carbon tourism supply chain consisting of a low-carbon tourist attraction (LTA) providing a low-carbon service and an online travel agency (OTA) responsible for big data marketing. Consumers may also encounter sudden crisis events that occur in the tourist attraction during their visit, and the occurrence of crisis events can damage the low-carbon goodwill of the tourist attraction to the detriment of the sustainable development of the supply chain. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate how tourism firms can develop dynamic strategies in the pre-crisis environment if they envision the occurrence of a crisis event and how crisis events affect interfirm cooperation. This paper uses stochastic jump processes to portray the dynamic evolution of low-carbon goodwill in the context of crisis events and introduces the methods of the differential game and Bellman’s continuous dynamic programming theory to study the sustainable operations of low-carbon tourism supply chains. Our findings provide important managerial insights for enterprises in the tourism supply chain and suggest that they need to not only become aware of the tourist attraction crisis events, but also, more importantly, they need to adjust their appropriate input strategies based on the degree of anticipation of the crisis.

The study explores visitor experience while visiting a mountain attraction in the Alpine region of Tirol, Austria, through participant observations, informal conversations, and photography. A grounded theory approach was adopted to uncover the meaning of visitors’ overall experience and deduct a possible theory that may contribute to a better understanding of visitor experiences at mountain attractions. The data collected from 600 subjects at the attraction’s four stopovers concluded that the visiting experience was a process that involved a blend of events composed of material and human elements. Guest experiences were also practiced on a passive–active continuum, where some of the experiential consumption activities were focused beyond the mountain itself, primarily viewing the landscape and photography. The study affirms the importance of participant observation as a methodological tool to study visitors at a tourist attraction, discusses implications for management, and offers recommendations for enhancing the overall guest experience.

Abstract:
Although it is still debatable, rural tourism is deemed to provide economic and social benefits without damaging natural resources and therefore, it is still an important sector for developing country. Indonesia will allocate IDR 72 trillion village fund in 2021 for rural development program in which rural tourism is the main sector after infrastructure, education, and health sectors. Using social representation theory approach, we analysed social representation of rural tourism among visitors and whether the representation was perceived as important or not by rural tourism managers. Survey of 700 tourists and 70 village tourism managers found that words of “tourism attraction”, “economic activities” and “curiosity” attracted attention of tourists, while rural tourism managers only considered “tourism attraction” as focus of the management strategies. There was a knowledge gap between visitors and tourism managers as tourists preferred to see "authenticity" while managers wanted to build an "artificial" attraction. In terms of management practices, the shift in social representation will largely determine their standard of hospitality; it is no longer based on the comfort of the "standard" as we understand, but instead the fulfilment of the social representation of the visitors. This finding has verified the hypothesis of post-tourism theory, which believes that visitors have more attention to get “experience” in their journey rather than to follow traditional view of “attraction”. At the practical level, rural tourism managers can consider the findings to develop their service management to be more in accordance with visitor’s representation rather than their common-sense.

Abstract:
Visitor attractions become the nexus in the relationship between the Tourism sector and the city of Durban as a competitive destination and are arguably the most significant component within the tourism system. To become competitive within the attraction sector there is a need to have a combination of attractions, like sightseeing, shopping, entertainment, gaming, culture and recreation and these plays an important role in determining the competitiveness of a destination. The increase in tourist activity creates an environment where all stakeholders within the tourism system have an opportunity to exercise their function in the most appropriate way. This however does not occur without challenges and clearly, from general observations, the Tourism sector is faced with several challenges in Durban such as the lack of synergy between the stakeholders within the tourism system; standards and quality between various groups differ which impact on service delivery, price structure and foreign expectations; sustaining a high cost capital and labour intensive industry throughout the year; domestic tourists having to compete with currency fluctuations; and the social, political, economic and technological challenges. The development of a competitive model would contribute to tourism sustainability, which is vital for the economy, growth and further development of the Tourism sector in Durban, South Africa.

Abstract:
Abstract Background In recent years, rural tourism has become an important way to implement the Rural Revitalization Strategy in China, and traditional villages have become an important type of rural tourism destination. On the one hand, how to improve the attraction of traditional rural tourism, on the other hand, how to meet the escalating experience needs of rural tourists, so as to make the sustainable development of traditional rural tourism and promote rural rejuvenation, is an urgent problem for traditional rural tourism stakeholders. Especially in the increasingly competitive rural tourism destinations, how to cultivate loyal tourists has become a major problem faced by tourism destinations. This paper puts forward the following assumptions about the emotional work of rural tourism practitioners H1: the surface behavior dimension of emotional labor is positively correlated with work pressure. H2: the deep behavioral dimension of emotional labor is negatively correlated with work stress. H3: the surface behavior dimension of emotional labor has a positive impact on job burnout. H4: the deep behavioral dimension of emotional labor has a negative impact on job burnout Research Objects and Methods From the perspective of psychology, taking the “first behavior result” of tourists in traditional villages and rural tourism destinations as the research object, and drawing lessons from the theory of self-determination and psychological ownership, this paper constructs and verifies the research model formed by tourists' experience perceived loyalty in rural tourism destination scenic spots. Thus, it reveals the interactive mechanism between the antecedents and behaviors, behaviors and results of traditional rural tourism destination tourists and rural tourism attraction, experience perception participation and loyalty attraction. According to the theoretical hypothesis, we use Amos to construct the formation model of experience perceived loyalty of rural tourism destination tourists, and use maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) to estimate the parameters of the model. The model includes 7 dimensions and 32 observation indicators. The perception dimension of experience value includes three sub dimensions: rural tourism service value perception, rural tourism emotional value perception and rural tourism resources and environment perception. The upper layer of these three sub dimensions constitutes the general dimension of “rural tourism experience value perception”. 1031 questionnaires were distributed, 945 valid questionnaires were distributed, and the effective rate was 91.7%. A field survey was conducted on many traditional rural tourism destinations in China. At the same time, the emotional behavior of tourism practitioners in various regions was investigated. The questionnaire is designed to objectively evaluate the individual's sense of self-worth or social ability. The original scale consists of 32 items. Helmreich and Stapp (1974) modified the scale and divided it into two independent 16 item scales to shorten the test time. The following criteria are followed in the composition of the two scales: the correlation between the subscale and the total scale is equivalent, the average scores between the scales and between different genders are equal, the score distribution is equal, and the corresponding factor structure. The correlation coefficient between the two subscales and the 32 item version of the total scale is 0.97, and the correlation coefficient between them is 0.87. Many researchers using tsbi only use one of the subscales. The 32 item version of tsbi factor analysis produced a large factor item and four theoretically related factor items: confidence, dominance, social ability, social withdrawal or relationship with authority. The subjects answered these statements on a 5-level scale, with a total score ranging from 0 to 64. Results The perceived value of rural tourism resources has a significant effect on the attractiveness and loyalty of traditional tourism resources. In this process, experience value perception plays a positive intermediary role between resource attraction and tourist loyalty. The attraction of traditional village rural tourism services has a positive impact on tourist loyalty. The higher the service attraction, the higher the tourist loyalty. However, the indirect impact of service attractiveness on tourist loyalty is not significant, mainly because the value perception of tourists caused by high service attractiveness is not necessarily very high. The attraction of traditional rural tourism environment has an indirect negative impact on tourist loyalty. However, the correlation analysis in Table 3 shows that there is a significant positive correlation between environmental attractiveness and tourist loyalty. The self-control of tourism employees was negatively correlated with emotion perception, emotion evaluation, emotion control and emotion regulation reflex (P < 0.01), and negatively correlated with emotion regulation self-efficacy (P < 0.05), which had nothing to do with the applied emotion strategies. The self-care ability and emotion regulation ability were significantly positively correlated with each dimension (P < 0.01); Encouraging autonomy and emotion regulation ability were significantly positively correlated with each dimension (P < 0.01); The ability of self-control and emotion regulation were significantly negatively correlated with each dimension (P < 0.01). Conclusion Traditional villages should give full play to the advantages of traditional rural tourism resources, maintain the “countryside” and rural authenticity, and enhance the attraction of tourism resources. When developing rural tourism in traditional villages, we should improve the service attraction and pay attention to the needs of tourists' experience value. Considering the different characteristics of the spatial distance between traditional rural tourism and other types of tourism destinations, traditional rural tourism destinations should create a rural tourism environment conducive to tourists' spatial perception. The emotional regulation of tourism service personnel is also conducive to bring positive feedback to rural tourism.

Abstract:
Traveling during off-peak season can mean cheaper flights, cheaper hotels, and the chance to see a destination at a less frenetic time of year. To alleviate the congestion of roads and tourist attractions, a better demand management plan is needed to guide tourists to avoid travel during holidays. This study takes holiday tourists’ peak travel avoidance behavior as the research object, and a Nested Logit (NL) model of travel time and destination joint decisions was established based on Utility Maximization Theory. Model calibration and elastic analysis were carried out using Revealed Preference/Stated Preference (RP/SP) survey data. Results show that tourist attributes such as the number of tourists traveling together, travel companion, duration of the visit, the number of previous visits, tourism motivation, type of tourist attraction, quality grade of tourist attraction, and degree of congestion significantly influence destination decisions. Travel scope, travel duration, age, and other factors significantly influence travel time decisions. The traffic congestion around tourist attractions, holiday admission ticket prices, and non-holiday admission ticket prices significantly influence travel time and destination decisions. Holiday admission ticket price increases have a strong impact on the decision to change the travel destination, while non-holiday admission ticket discounts have a weak impact on travel time decision behavior. The findings of this study offer a theoretical basis for holiday travel management and tourism management. It is practical and significant to reasonably guide tourists to travel during the off-peak season and to understand the travel needs and characteristics of holiday tourists, thus adjusting the distribution of holiday tourist flow.

Abstract:
Purpose Previous mountain tourism research addressed economic, environmental, social and political impacts. Because limited studies evaluated visitors’ perception of their experience, this study aims to examine the tangible and intangible visitor experience in a Tyrolean alpine tourist attraction. Design/methodology/approach The study adopted Klaus and Maklan’s (2012) customer experience model, suggesting that customers base their experience perception on the quality of product experience, outcome focus, moments of truth and peace-of-mind. Their model was used to validate the impact on overall customer experience quality at the mountain attraction through conducting a structured survey with 207 face-to-face interviews on-site. Findings The results of the confirmatory factor analysis did not confirm the four-dimensional structure, probably due to the differences between mountain tourism experience and the mortgage lending experience in the original study. Instead, principal component analysis suggested a different dimensional structure of components that were arbitrarily named as functional, social, comparative and normative aspects of the visitors’ experience. Research limitations/implications The results are based on a sample in a given period of time, using convenience sampling. While the sample size satisfied the data analysis requirements, confirmatory factor analysis would benefit from a larger sample size. Practical implications Consumer experience dimensions while visiting a mountain attraction may not be concrete or objective, and consequently may yield different types of attributes that influence behavior. Social implications The social exchange theory could explain relationships between visitors and service providers and their consequences. Attraction managers should increase benefits for visitors and service providers to enhance their relationships, and thus experience. Originality/value The study explored the applicability of an existing experiential consumption model in a mountain attraction context. The findings introduce a revised model that may be applicable in other tourist attractions.
