While mediation is perceived as a conflictological concept and is more widely used in dispute settlement and resolution, a new interdisciplinary field of theoretical knowledge with its own conceptual framework as well as a new professional and practical field are beginning to form both in Russia and in other countries. As theoretical and practical aspects of innovation in mediation require consolidation not only for its national development but also for the guaranteed international cooperation, the article touches upon some of the particular theoretical issues of the topic in question: terminological consistency, consolidation of the system of mediation principles, the phenomenon of juridisation of mediation and its limits.

Urban gardening mainly means growing edible vegetables in a town. This practice has been traditionally used for economic reasons (subsistence agriculture), but now it has also acquired educational, nutraceutical, therapeutic and social relevance. The educational aspect of urban gardening has been the subject of a proposal for the newly born Science Shop in Florence (Italy). In the spirit of action-research, in our project we first decided to involve all (or many) potentially interested people. This has brought into light the galaxy of different aspects related to urban gardening and allowed the establishing of promising research lines. We discovered that this is a multi-disciplinary subject that touches themes dealing with agriculture, botany, psychology, chemistry, city planning and politics. We examine here the various aspects of urban gardening in the towns of Florence and Prato, two very different urban environments despite their proximity.

The article touches upon the problem of improving adolescent health. Its current state does not meet the needs of the society in the substantial health improvement of this social group. The results of two “Adolescent health and the environment” studies (repeated cohort studies, 1996 and 2017) have served as the information base for the article. Their special feature is a common sample object (adolescents aged 13–16 years old), single program, identical samples, geographically close regions and time interval (20 years). The proposed approach is aimed at searching links between sociological parameters of health, such as self-assessment of health, health awareness, health consciousness, motives for that and health behavior, and the socio-demographic characteristics of the respondents. According to the study, changes in the attitudes and values with regard to health influence the increased attention to health and self-assessment of health. Despite the continuous radical changes in the society’s life, the psychosocial state of adolescent is characterized by certain stability of key lifestyle parameters in terms of time. As for their positive and negative attitudinal and behavioral changes, they are the result of the state social policy in the field of health. Active promotion of healthy lifestyle in recent decades has transformed into a change in attitudes related to smoking and motives for health care. Less attention to the environmental problems at the state level has led to less concern about these issues among young people. While disease incidence among adolescents is characterized by negative trends, positive experience of the social policy in the sphere of health is the basis for positive changes in this field. The introduction of health lessons for schoolchildren to the educational standard could be the influential component. This would provide a long-term effect of health promotion in Russia.

This article describes the basic concept of "tourist destination" in the tourism system, its content and essence, the definition given by various scholars, that destination is a geographical region with a certain attractiveness for tourists. The definitions of the concept of "destination" proposed by the authors in scientific sources are based on the division into four groups according to their important aspects: territorial, economic, social, administrative. While the assessment of the concept of "tourist destination" in the regional context is based primarily on the criterion of "dependence" on the specific geographical location of the region, economically tourist destination is considered as a specific destination for tourists and is considered an economic category. one is that there is a tourist demand.
While the social aspect is the interpretation of a tourist destination as a specific socio-geographical place, it is conceived that any system is governed by forces of a natural nature as a subject of management that characterizes the concept of a tourist destination. The article also touches on the concept of "tourism industry" and the work on the development of tourism in Uzbekistan today.

This paper considers various aspects of pro-gress, as a problem touched upon in the article by A.L. Nikiforov. The author suggests an assumption about the heuristic significance of the idea of progress in social philosophy as a kind of research tool, which is effective in the analysis of various social processes and allows to trace their directed development accord-ing to some criterion. It is argued that in this case, it is necessary to comply with a number of conditions: one requirement (a clear formulation of the criterion) and three prohibitions – a prohibition on subjective assess-ment, on discussion about criteria, and on absolutizing a criterion.

The study touched on an important topic in Japan, which is (Prime Minister of Japan Nobusuke Kishi from 1957-1960) and he also had an "important political role because of his great importance to Japan, where in this year (1957) he became the Prime Minister of Japan and had a great role in his proximity It was also characterized by a policy of establishing good relations with European countries for joint cooperation in order to establish friendly relations and establish security agreements, especially with the United States of America. Nobusuke Kishi was the great statesman, especially in the field of economy, and he was loved by the United States of America because of its strong and reassuring relations with him. The study was divided into an introduction, a conclusion, and three sections. The first topic dealt with Nobusuke Kishi, his life and political role until 1957. While the second topic spoke to Nobusuke Kishi's internal policy in Japan, as well as regarding the third topic, it shed light on it, dealing with Nobusuke Kishi's foreign policy. Finally, it should be noted that Nobusuke Kishi's political role still needs more studies and research, especially since this modest effort touched on one aspect of the political aspect. We hope that later studies will address the economic, social and cultural aspects that had an important impact on Japan's policy and in In conclusion. Through the prism of the priorities of Russian national security and social values, given the crime situation, the state branch of the legislative framework, enforcement practices and reform processes in conjunction with completed and implemented national plans against corruption, we made an attempt to define the boundaries of issues of counteraction to such a phenomenon as “corruption” in strategic and other documents, using elements of retrospective analysis. We reveal the aspects concerning how “yesterday and today” the corruption problem positioned/positioning in the political and legal and, in particular, in the criminal-legal contexts? Is it seen as a major challenge or threat to national security? In close interrelation with the considered problem the separate directions of activity in the economic security sphere and economic growth maintenance are touched. As a consequence, we focus attention on the problem of corruption in relation to the regional cross-section. In conclusion, we give a brief overview of some kind of legislative reforms results, which allowed today the subjects of combating corruption to radically improve the work in this direction. At the same time, the issues of expected new changes in the legislation, which will have an impact on the development of law enforcement practice, were touched upon in an aspect-wise manner.

Traditional technology is one of cultural advancement objects that can be found in Loloan stilt houses which are undergoing transformation and decline in quantity. This paper aims to know shape and determinants of stilt houses transformation in East Loloan, as well as to reveal the implications in terms of cultural advancement program. The study applied qualitative methods which were analyzed interpretive descriptive. The results showed that the stilt house consist two forms and has three levels based on the cosmological community. Transformation of houses on stilts, namely addition of space and changes in function of underside caused by determinants: social change, cultural dynamic, transition livelihoods, technology development, activity change, family members structure, build condition, land area, and interest of homeowner. The implication is that most of the aspects of the cultural advancement program have been fulfilled, except for the coaching aspect which has not been touched by community or government.

The experience often described as feeling moved, understood chiefly as a social-relational emotion with social bonding functions, has gained significant research interest in recent years. Although listening to music often evokes what people describe as feeling moved, very little is known about the appraisals or musical features contributing to the experience. In the present study, we investigated experiences of feeling moved in response to music using a continuous rating paradigm. A total of 415 US participants completed an online experiment where they listened to seven moving musical excerpts and rated their experience while listening. Each excerpt was randomly coupled with one of seven rating scales (perceived sadness, perceived joy, feeling moved or touched, sense of connection, perceived beauty, warmth [in the chest], or chills) for each participant. The results revealed that musically evoked experiences of feeling moved are associated with a similar pattern of appraisals, physiological sensations, and trait correlations as feeling moved by videos depicting social scenarios (found in previous studies). Feeling moved or touched by both sadly and joyfully moving music was associated with experiencing a sense of connection and perceiving joy in the music, while perceived sadness was associated with feeling moved or touched only in the case of sadly moving music. Acoustic features related to arousal contributed to feeling moved only in the case of joyfully moving music. Finally, trait empathic concern was positively associated with feeling moved or touched by music. These findings support the role of social cognitive and empathic processes in music listening, and highlight the social-relational aspects of feeling moved or touched by music.

Acupuncture is a therapeutic treatment that is characterised by the insertion of a needle at a particular location on the body. Acupuncture stimulation includes sensory-discriminative and affective-social touch dimensions. In this review, we discuss the role of touch during acupuncture stimulation with an emphasis on the therapeutic, sensory-discriminative and affective-social aspects. In the discriminative dimension, de qi, which is associated with needling, includes a combination of various sensations, such as heaviness, numbness, soreness and distension. Achieving the appropriate de qi sensation appears to be fundamental to the therapeutic outcome following acupuncture treatment. In the affective dimension, the acupuncture procedure typically includes gentle manual touch stimulation, which induces feelings of calm and well-being, perhaps by activating C tactile fibres. Enhanced activity of C tactile afferents may induce a ‘limbic touch’ response, resulting in emotional and hormonal reactions. Because acupuncture is a ‘therapist intensive’ and complex intervention, it is necessary to understand the role of social touch between the practitioner and patient. Both sensory-discriminative and affective-social touch aspects play an important role in the therapeutic effect of acupuncture treatment in clinical practice.

Purpose Individuals with dysphagia, particularly in the presence of dementia, are at high risk for decreased nutrition and hydration. Unfortunately, current treatment options are not without limitations and often ignore the crucial social aspects of mealtimes. The aim of this exploratory, proof-of-concept study was to examine whether the social phenomenon of nonconscious behavioral mimicry can increase drinking behaviors in healthy older adults. Method Forty-two older adults ( M age = 68.26 years, SD = 6.49) participated. Participants and a member of the research team posing as another participant (a confederate) took turns describing two series of pictures, while, unbeknownst to the participants, the confederate either frequently drank from a cup of water or touched the cup. The primary outcome measures (number of drinks per minute, number of cup touches per minute, percentage of time spent drinking, and percentage of time spent touching the cup) were coded and analyzed across both the confederate drinking and cup-touching conditions. Results Participants drank more frequently and spent more task time drinking during the confederate drinking condition as compared to the cup-touching condition. There was significant variability in drinking patterns across participants, with some only drinking when they were not engaged in the picture description task. Conclusions Behavioral mimicry may increase drinking behaviors in healthy older adults, although the effect may not be as robust among certain subsets of individuals. Clinically, mimicry may hold potential as a powerful, noninvasive supplemental mealtime strategy for increasing intake in those who are most at risk for malnutrition.

The purpose of this research was to evaluate the effect of tafakkur therapy on psychological well-being on people with odapus. This study used experimental method with a single case design using the variation of type A-B. The participant was a 24-year-old woman with sjorgen odapus from Syamsi Dhuha Foundation. The results showed that there were changes in psychological well-being between before and after attending tafakkur therapy. It touched the aspect of cognition, affection and psychomotor of the subject. The conclusion of the research was tafakkur therapy could affect psychological well-being on individual with odapus. There were also others factors that influence psychological well-being: social support, social economic status, social networks, religiosity, personality, and intensity of attending therapy activities.

The article focuses on socioeconomic aspects touched upon by Smith, including the social division among communities and the communitarian disunity, financial and economic hardship, bureaucratic insensitiveness, the issue of immigration, as well as the public social submissiveness or protest while facing all of these plights. Even though these may not be the central themes of Smith’s novel, the depiction of the ‘hard times’ of people living during a time of change, uncertainty, division, chaos and mixed feelings emerges as an equally important concern, as the current paper aims to explore.

This article is devoted to consideration of the general methodological aspects of stimulating self-development in information and communication competence of students in secondary vocational education, including the specialty 43.02.10 SPO Tourism, which are related to the personal formation of future professionals who possess information and communication competence, have aspiration for realization in informational and educational sphere and willingness to work in the information field. The article touches upon the basic points and the importance of a subjective position in stimulating self-development in information and communication competence of students in secondary vocational education. The authors identify the function of a subjective position of a student, as a kind of objective formation in information and communication competence, such as: humanitarian, social, adaptive and identification function. The stages of formation of a subjective position of a student are considered in the article. Interrelation of the concepts of subjectivity, self-development with the notion of information and communication competence is observed here. In the context of the considered aspects disclosed the structure of information and communication competence together with the following components: cognitive, motivational and integrative. Practical implementation of the general methodological aspect of a subjective position of a student and motivational component of competitiveness is one of the topical issues of educational practice in vocational education system, as it results deepen, extend and elaborate modern concepts of information and communication competence.

Abstract This article reflects upon a mobile art ethnography that sought to understand and rethink some of the tensions around regional/rural experiences of the digital. Using creative practice-based methods, it provides new insights into this regional/urban divide through the motif of working mother commuter as digital wayfarer, a term used to define on/offline digital entanglement through the lived experience of quotidian wayfaring. It contributes to debates around mobile communication and mobile media studies by connecting conceptual analysis of mobilities and its relationship to regional commuting with a creative approach to movement, play and a sense of place. Much of the academic research on mobile media and internet studies stems from an urban focus rather than engaging in the unevenness of the online as is much of the experience in the rural region of North Central Victoria, Australia. Being a working mother commuter for almost a decade, the researcher also took an autobiographical approach to aspects of this project through the lens of digital wayfaring. The artefact used ethnographic case study methods and is a creative non/ fiction sound and moving imagery work made using the mobile phone, within the context of the regional Vline train. Utilising sonified global positioning system (GPS) data as part of the soundscape, it addressed problems in the production of this train activity (i. e. work, creativity, play, rest and playbour) regarding social and material participation of the commute infrastructure and overlaid internet connections. It showed how multisensorial art-making highlights the commute to be a journey to and from - and of - work, within the ecology of the Vline train, and therefore provides new ways of perceiving this copresent, mediated and entangled digital experience.

This paper examines aspects of the social meaning of the parish boundary in Hanoverian England. The parish touched most people's lives through its role as a form of local government and as a significant landscape feature which defined a circuit of territory to which local people may have felt an allegiance. Evidence for the social meaning of boundaries is found in acts of boundary marking and related perambulation ceremonies and through written records, sometimes involving maps. The paper draws on a contrasting range of cases from a variety of counties with different landscape and settlement types in the century or so before the local government and administrative reforms of the 1830s – a time of significant change in central-local government relations. The paper evaluates the significance of the parish as principal repository of detailed information on its own boundaries in our period, with a premium placed on local knowledge, especially of the older parishioners. It is also suggested that acts of boundary recording could enhance a sense of parish consciousness and community.

In the case of body shaming in Indonesia in 2018, “there were 966 cases of physical humiliation or body shaming handled by police from all over Indonesia throughout 2018. Most recently in 2019, public figures were also affected. No less surprising, this phenomenon does not only attack adults but also babies. The problem raised in this paper is what legal factors influence the rise of body shaming as a digital crime in the era of disruption. The approach method used is conceptual. In conclusion, the legal factors that influence the prevalence of body shaming are the substance of law and legal culture. In the aspect of legal substance, some areas have not been touched by current regulations, even though the legal realm is often used as a catalyst for digital body-shaming crimes. Meanwhile, in the aspect of legal culture, the problem of legal conflicts and low legal compliance are the main problems. To make matters worse, the attitude of the victim who prefers to ignore the treatment they receive without taking a fight justified by law makes the perpetrators of body shaming even wilder and more frontal, because law enforcers, as part of the legal structure, are unable to take action because this act falls under the complaint offense. The article touches upon the priority aspects in education, such as quality, accessibility and cost-effectiveness of learning processes. Existing methods and practices of learning processes call for the need to introduce the innovations in order to solve the urgent problems. One of these innovations was the introduction of modern Internet-based information and communication technologies in the learning process. Modern online technologies were the basic for the new type of learning - distant learning. The brief review of the development of distant learning in the historical aspect proved that this type of learning has become in demand worldwide. Distant learning has its advantages and shortcomings; it cannot replace full-time or part-time education but has become a separate type of learning – a form of self-study using on-line technologies and virtual space, where, in addition to the essential technical aspect, such social factors as student motivation and self-control are important. The status and development prospects of distance learning are analyzed on the basis of two indicators – the volume of the global IP market and the volume of the world distance learning market. Statistical data of both indicators based on reliable sources indicate a constant increase in their values, confirming that distance learning is developing at an increasing pace and therefore is very promising. The aim of developing distance learning in the future is to increase the level of education through the use of modern Internet-based information and communication technologies and a possible concurrent reduction of economic costs.

There is no attempt to draw normative concepts, ideal and abstract, to the empirical-sociological level. When the concept of Islamic education is faced with the problems of empirical-sociological and just wrestle on normative issues, the Islamic education could be stuck in the ideology of positivism that tend to deny the importance of criticism of social reality. Therefore, Islamic education needs to balance-normative aspects of religious and historical.

The paper touches on the topic of optimism, allowing for a thesis of the peaceful coexistence of states to be proposed. This type of thinking was represented by the German philosopher and psychiatrist Karl Jaspers. Jaspers took the view that philosophy brings about political consequences that need to be observed and examined. He was influenced by Max Weber, from whom he adopted the idea of the salvation of Western heritage, embodied in the spirit of liberalism, freedom and diversity of private life. According to Jaspers, Germans should abandon their desire for military supremacy in favor of the dissemination of such universal ideas as freedom. In the interwar period Jaspers wrote a book about the spiritual situation of his times where he touched on the issue of the outcomes of technological progress for the existential dimension of man, who enjoys freedom on the one hand, and is responsible for himself on the other. He concluded by saying that in the face of such technical developments warfare poses a threat to biological survival and to freedom, since it destroys human self-responsibility. Jaspers noticed the problem of an individual being threatened by alienated social institutions, and as a consequence he proposed the thesis of the depersonalization of individual existence. The totalitarian system Jaspers had experienced encouraged him to revise the theoretical aspects and to develop a competitive, libertarian solution. Jaspers strongly emphasized individualism and the responsibility of individuals whose present influences the future. Jaspers’ ideas may be deemed to be remote from realism, since liberalism is a golden mean, neither preventing international wars nor appeasing political national arenas.

Unfortunately, though, the same technologies can also serve to pollute our online „ecosystem”. They can be used to manipulate at a scale that was never possible. In this information-oversaturated world, fake news and propaganda have taken many forms and simultaneously contribute to undermine, reshape and redefine reality. Stimulated in large part by the innovative work by Tilley and colleagues, which provides a socially contextualised model to interpret the implications of health care in the past (Tilley & Oxenham 2011; Tilley 2015), this is now a burgeoning field in bioarchaeology. The two volumes on care in the past under review here showcase leading research in this emerging field, emphasising the social aspects of care in palaeopathological cases of disability. These volumes also illustrate the value of bioarchaeological consideration of the social implications of care provision, abuse and neglect of infants and children, as well as a consideration of care for animals in the past.

A qualitative investigation was conducted as part of a larger experiment. The major findings consist of 15 different aspects that vary along one or more dimensions and how those influence the four dimensions of user experience that are present in the study, as well as the different parts of touch behavior of conveying emotions.

As the number of individuals becoming gamers continues to increase, using video games as a medium to understand the social interactions and underlying motivations of players becomes ever so important. Interpersonal relationships, which develop from the social interactions that occur during gameplay have been found to contribute to player motivation and relatedness within the game (Rigby & Ryan, 2011). In the current study we examined how interpersonal touch, more specifically positive or negative touch conditions within a gameplay experience, impacted player motivation and inter-player impressions in 74 undergraduate students. In addition, observational data was collected measuring the quality of interaction between the participant in the study and a research confederate with whom they were playing an online game. Quantitative results indicate significant differences between the positive touch conditions perceived competence, effort/importance, and relatedness when compared to the control touch and negative touch conditions. Qualitative results also reveal that participants who were in the positive touch and negative touch conditions had more reactions not only cognitively (i.e. in game response) but emotionally (i.e. out of game response like laughing) than the control condition. Touch is only one aspect of behaviors that can help to foster a sense of connection between players. These results begin to highlight the effect of virtual touch on relatedness and motivation. More research is needed to help determine the exact levels of virtual touch, as well as the different types of virtual touch needed to elicit a change in the participant’s motivation and relatedness, with hopes that game developers may take virtual touch into account when creating a game.

Purpose – The purpose of the article is to examine aspects of executive behaviour relating to social responsibility in the British railway companies from their beginnings in 1830 until 1860. It offers a fruitful contribution to the literature and the understanding of responsibility, noting specifically the impact of the overall business and social culture prevalent at the times. Design/methodology/approach – Discussion of the railways touches on various stakeholders. It uses the four responsibilities of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) [economic, legal, ethical and discretionary (philanthropic)] as a framework against which to examine some of the actions taken in the railway companies. Reference is also made to the prevailing business culture of the times and how it may have impacted management practices of the times. The study considers real-world phenomena, where management is an applied field and where scholarship ties to the real-world phenomena practitioners face. Findings – A lack of Government participation in setting up the railways resulted in a slow reaction in terms of providing legislation to regulate the development and running of the railways. This, in turn, meant firms having to rely sometimes on their own discretion regarding what they considered responsible actions. While economic and social benefits of railways were in evidence, there was some evidence of financial irregularities, and safety issues for passengers were prominent issues of the day. Moreover, a lack of an efficient public relations function hindered dealing with public concerns. Despite impressive engineering achievements, some mistakes were made which involved loss of life and substantial financial costs. Originality/value – The combination of a historical approach and the use of the theoretical framework of the four responsibilities of CSR provide a novel view on aspects of entrepreneurial activity in a early industrialisation context. The case here also underlines the importance of understanding the context in which innovations, influential in and to society, are introduced.

The article highlights the issues of modeling processes of a socio-economic nature, considers the problems and reveals the factors influencing the construction of the model algorithm. In our opinion, studies of economic processes undoubtedly affect the social side of the development of the territory. The scientific novelty lies in the development and testing of new approaches to the construction of a model that allows us to systematically characterize the processes taking place, based on the analysis of the whole, territorial development, in relation to the structure of its parts, including human capital, which will make it possible to create a mechanism that ensures maneuverability in order to effectively use the potential of the region. As a result, an assessment of the current state of affairs for a certain subject of the Russian Federation is given, but some aspects touched upon in the study require an additional information block. The considered structural factors are determined in the share influence, which allows us to conclude about the regulation of processes with external and internal influence.

The subject of the article is the analysis of three main aspects of the fight against corruption: the prevention of corruption, the fight against corruption and minimizing the consequences of corruption offenses. Separate gaps in the legislation affecting the effectiveness of anti-corruption, mechanisms of interaction between government, business and society, which have as their goal the prevention of corruption, are examined. The role of civil society institutions in the fight against corruption, as well as the influence of the media on the perception of the image of a corrupt official, is examined. The problem of criminalizing the liability of legal entities for corruption offenses, the problem of applying such a criminal law measure as confiscation of the property of a corrupt official are touched upon. Briefly discussed are the possibilities of transferring to the legal field some aspects of corruption in the form of organizing lobbying activities. The authors also consider aspects of minimizing the social consequences of corruption.

Purpose Mobile social media (MSM), an interaction, exchange of information and creation of user-generated content, mediated by mobile devices, is becoming the locomotive that drives forward evolution of the online world. Fewer academic studies have touched upon the MSM subject, with all the papers being of a conceptual nature to provide recommendations to business-to-business (B2B) firms. This paper aims to explore how B2B firms use MSM in reality. Design/methodology/approach This paper adopts the grounded theory approach to analyse interviews conducted in 26 B2B firms representing the UK advertising and marketing sector. Interviewees represent key decision-makers who understand the aspects of mobile technology use in their firms. Eighteen firms stressed the importance of social media as a trigger to adopt mobile devices. Follow-up data collection in these 18 firms focus on strategic orientation, processes, routines and skills required for using MSM. Findings This paper found that marketing and advertising firms use MSM for branding, sensing market, managing relationships and developing content. MSM is treated by businesses as a strategic firm-specific capability that drives firms’ competitiveness, where imitation of such capability by competitors is limited because MSM skills are specific to individuals within organisations and MSM routines are manifested as a result of firm-specific MSM skills’ interactions. Originality/value This study is amongst the first to provide insights into B2B firms’ practices of using MSM. Additionally, the research is novel because it discovers that MSM capability is developed as a result of the overlap between individuals’ and organisational knowledge and memory, contradicting existing theory on the subject.

According to the survey of statistical data formed findings on the interaction of indicators characterizing the economic growth and indicators characterizing the innovative development of the state. Touched upon the issues of interaction of state corporations and the growth of the innovation development of the state, as well as the historical aspects of formation of state corporations. Analyzed the dependence between the development of innovation processes and the formation of human capital as a major factor of development of innovations. The conclusions which allow to compare the trends in the development of economic growth with the trends in the development of innovative processes.

This paper is concerned to explain minority discourse through the curriculum, books, and culture in schools. Conflicts between minorities and majorities can occur in Indonesia, whenever and wherever, whether motivated by differences in ethnicity, ethnicity, religion, or groups. The problem is whether the education sector has contributed to its prevention aspects. Moreover, the national education curriculum is still oriented on cognitive abilities, while aspects of social intelligence have not been touched. The various references available have also not opened students' awareness in accepting the existence of minority groups. School education still merely raises passive tolerance, has not yet fostered active tolerance. Educational orientation must be stressed on the importance of a transformative, dialogic approach and inclusive to diversity. Then, it also refers back to the achievement of Ki Hajar Dewantara's ideals of liberation and humanizing education.

There is a significant gap between technological advancements of digital touch communication devices and social science methodologies for understanding digital touch communication. In response to that gap this article makes a case for bringing the communicational focus of multimodality into dialogue with the experiential focus of sensory ethnography to explore digital touch communication. To do this, we draw on debates within the literature, and reflect on our experiences in the IN-TOUCH project (2016–2021). While acknowledging the complexities of methodological dialogues across paradigm boundaries, we map and reflect on the methodological synergies and tensions involved in actively working across these two approaches, notably the conceptualization, categorization and representation of touch. We conclude by homing in on aspects of research that have served as useful reflective route markers on our dialogic journey to illustrate how these tensions are productive towards generating a multimodal and multisensorial agenda for qualitative research on touch.
